Mystic Forge Recipe: Immobulus

Some forge recipes are ridiculously expensive. I just created the Emerald Amulet (Soldier’s exotic amulet) and it was:

250 gold ingots
250 emerald orbs
250 crystalline dust
50 mystic coins

By BLTC prices, this was an 80 gold amulet that’s only exotic and no one can ever see. What did I pay for? Exotic level Soldier’s…..not attainable through normal play unless you are in one of two dungeons and the RNG gods are not only smiling but drunk as well.

250 giant eyes, however, would cost about 375 gold at today’s buy price….that’s insane. I can see why you went the route of the moldy bags.

Okay. I am going after a certain build but I have to use a mastercraft version of the Soldier’s spineguard due to limited karma restraints. (I love puzzle boxes, color me dumb)

The build has celestial gem upgrades for trinkets and the backpiece. Can I put an exotic level upgrade into a mastercraft backpiece or do the levels of the items have to match? The mastercraft version is a level 80 item as are the celestial gems, will it work?

I have to ask one question to all the folks that bashed the ranger as a class (whether the class mechanics, pet issues, spamming #4 with LB or any other weakness “you perceive” to be in place), how many have actually leveled a ranger? I see a couple people state that they leveled them and those people tend to be a little less harsh. The others seem to have a mob mentality because a failing ranger robbed you of your cookie at recess.

I see a LOT of rangers in PvE and WvW (don’t play PvP just yet as arena is not my cup of tea, not on that scale so I cannot speak to that) and obviously my main is a ranger so I admit to my bias. All of those people have to be continuing on the course of ranger for a reason and if you proclaim it’s because it’s an easy class you are way out of touch with the reality. Just the opposite, it’s very hard. So when you say it is easy, you are proclaiming yourself as ignorant and blatantly not in the camp of people who have leveled and fought with the class.

In the start of this game, most classes are easy except Engineer. Move my mouse and use cursor buttons to move around the map, mash 1 to kill something and 6 to heal myself. I pick things up with the f key. There may be something truth to the appeal of a ranger as a class due to the lore but beyond that, only one class is tougher to learn and I already mentioned it.

It’s really sad indeed that all this vitriol was and is spawned from talking out of one’s kitten.

I have to say, of all the races in Tyria, Charrs have the most distinctness, most variation. Sylvari are close but with a Charr you can use so much customization and if a player picks the correct armor, there’s nothing quite as imposing as a Charr leaping into a hammer blow just as you look up. Love the colors you chose and yeah, the horns are impressive, my Charr’s horns were nubbed but I still think he rocks. Commando healing build, soldiers armor with plate skins and soldier runes. Cultural Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cassocaster.4576

Why is the cost for Tier 3 Cultural Armor so high?? By the time a character reaches the level where this armor is “useable” and “useful”, that character (or it’s other minions) is already at a level where armor with better stats, higher rarity, and better defense is available at less than a TENTH of the cost of this kitten!!! The Tier 1 and 2 items are at least reasonable for the cost involved and are (usually) better than anything else obtainable————FOR THE LEVEL they are designed for. Yes, getting the achievement is nice, but NOT at ~750 gold——————NO achievement is worth THAT expense!!!
Can we start to see some “reality” in costing?

I think you are mistaking value with prestige. Value is draconic armor that every heavy armor class can buy/craft. Prestige is Cultural Armor just to say you have it and are seen in it, I only have Sylvari and Asuran tier 3 left before I get the “Emperor” title. Value you boldly claim how little you paid for such a quality item; prestige is boldly claiming how much you paid for an item, quality or not.

Why do you think they have the “Golden” title? Bank 200 gold and you get golden as an option. They probably should bring that amount up some, maybe 500.

There are greatsword skins (fused) that are over 350 gold for a single weapon. In that light, cultural armor is a relative bargain at 121 gold for a set.

Could probably do away with the auto attack setting for pets or at least not have it as the default setting. That way new rangers will learn pet control as many have likely not ever set their pet to passive or even know that setting exists. What I mean by passive is the setting where the pet does nothing without the player having told them to do it. The default setting has the pet automatically attack whatever the player is attacking. Also learn to use knockback intelligently and dont just spam it whenever it is available.

A pet will attack, even in passive mode, if you take damage. The real trick is having rangers use F3 to draw the pet back to the player if the pet bolts after your target.

Multiple toons running champs daily will get you what you need very quickly. If you have leveled alt characters have each of them hit the major bosses once per day. Google “Dragon timer” and there are a couple different sites that will give you a list of events that will give you dragonite and when they are up. The Shatterer, The Maw, Shadow Behemoth, Flame Elemental and the Keeps/Stonemist captures are the quickest ways to gather the ore.

Going after Jormag or Tequatl could be disappointing depending on how many people show up and how badly you get thumped because both of these events can be very frustrating. With Tequatl (Sparkfly) you could waste 15 minutes fighting, respawning and fighting for no reward, same with Jormag (Frostsound).

Maw, Behemoth, and Fire Elemental are not very good choices for Dragonite. You would have to do those 6-10 times to get the equivalent of one temple. Temple of Dwayna or Melandru are much better. They give 30 dragonite but do not require many people.

Golem is probably the best for having a short timer, decent amount of dragonite and still relatively easy(it is faster with less people around).

My point in selecting those specific events was because of the ease of them. My assumption is the OP is not as experienced doing champ events and therefore I avoided those events that force them into a very difficult zone (Orr in general) or versus bosses that have advanced mechanics. The Maw may give approx. 15 dragonite and Dwayna gives 30 but the work to get Dwayna done is significantly more….

Kodan makes the most sense, bi-pedal humanoid (and land based, no water based creature will become a class), same size as Norns so mapping armor isn’t a problem. Skritt and Quaggan don’t seem to be viable options. I like the Largos but again, water based, I’ve only seen one out of water during the personal story line at Fort Trinity. The only argument against Kodan is that they are pure polar bears and are not an original “race” such as Charr, Sylvari or the Asura are. Humans and Norns are both the same thing, one is just a larger version of the other.

Ranger seems to be extremely dull and boring profession, in my opinion, I got my ranger to level 30 and was so bored of the whole play style I deleted it. That bow shooting sound was just annoying.

Uh…compared to what? An engineer or ele? This statement is a pure falsehood to the reality of the class. By your statement I have to assume you were bored of dying because you couldn’t learn the class by the 30th level. Ranger is a very hard class to play well. People hate rangers because so many ineffectual players bring them into areas where they are not suited. In a boss situation where the pet draws agro to the players, you shouldn’t be there with a pet since you cannot 100% stop the pet from attacking (I wish we could, trust me).

Making a statement like this when you didn’t even level the toon makes me think you just mash the 1 key with some high DPS build. Dungeons and LS events may not be the best place for the ranger, I concede that fact but I have taken my ranger to rank 155 in WvW with 6500 kills (I know this is a pretty useless number since I only have throw a couple of swipes with my great sword to get credit for the death), have world completion and have solo’d multiple champs with him. It’s work, you gotta know your class so it is an insult when someone makes a statement like you did even if you used “seems” as a preface.

The true solution to this endless argument about rangers is up to the rangers themselves to solve. It’s up to us who play this class to prove to others that not only is the class a viable one but that also it exceeds many classes in many ways (such as roaming, healing AoE, 1V1 fighting, escape methods and AoE control through Muddy Terrain or Entangle). Once people see rangers played well, they will back off but until that time, to the OP, you are going to have to put up with the ignorance of others.

Just out of curiousity, when people talk about Ranger being awesome for 1v1… are they talking about condition bunker BM spec?

I am just wondering because I am new to Ranger and the only builds I have played are Longbow/Greatsword, and Sw/wh/GS BM build. Both are extremely fun to play and can hold their own 1v1 against power specs, but seem to melt vs heavy condition builds.

I am not a big fan of condition builds, because other than Necro and to a lesser extent Engi, the only way you can actually kill someone is if they stay and fight you forever. From what I have seen of condi BM rangers, there is nothing stopping your target from just walking away because while you may be tanky, your damage is just steady dots.

This is the build I use for my ranger and the one from which I state that 1V1 it will rule:

As far as lighting, having a torch off hand is a really good way to offset the shadow issue. I think if we really had “night” a lot of us would be falling off cliffs and our repair bills might increase a touch so having a dusk lighting as night time is fine with me.

I sometimes am unsure if my color saturation is due to the game or my monitor, some areas feel like it’s too saturated while others can seem washed out and the nightmare court has a real contrast issue in my eyes, especially now that they inflict torment (not sure if they always did, really noticed it after the Kessex Hills events).

Okay, your guardian is a heavy armor class so speed can be an issue, if you are roaming PvE and she’s in medium or light armor, you’ll get left behind so I would suggest the same armor class as you. This means warrior though I would suggest not using a Charr or Norn for her first toon, they are blocky and the camera view is a little funky. I would say Asura or human as the race. Warrior also has a lot of weapon choices.

They are just in stealth waiting the signal to strike as a pack, you just too blind to see them before their tactical brilliance is revealed. Its all evolution you know.

Speaking of stealth, how about the “spies” that look like predator so that we can see them but somehow the separists (sp?) do not. What would be funny is if we are running along and we actually trip over the spies in order to find them. Make ’em really invisible.

I’ve taken 4 crafting disciplines to 500 and it does not require 100G to go from 400-500, no way (we’ll see on chef, ingredients are stoopid expensive). You need to spend more time in discovery if you are unable to do this quickly.

I get it if you don’t want to do it at all because of “the grind” but say that ANet did give you a fast track ticket to get a craft to 500 (from 400, they’ll never give you a ticket from 0) and they charged you 2500 gems for it, since that’s what it would be, at least. Converted, that 2500 gem cost turns into 130 gold in game currency. More than the 100 gold you suggest it takes to get from 400-500. Not only that but you miss out on all the ecto and dark matter you’ll need to craft more ascended materials and you get those from crafting the exotics that bring you to 450 and above.

And I promise you, not everyone has ascended items, not even close unless you count the ascended trinkets we can buy with laurels. Weapons are becoming more and more populous but I strongly doubt the rush to armor has even gotten close to half the number of players with ascended trinkets and weapons.

Malchor’s is the most difficult zone to complete though the Vizier’s Tower puzzle/vista/skill point in Strait’s is pretty nasty too. Run/swim the entire perimeter and look for any water-colored blobs on your map. The issue is sometimes related to the “region” within the zone not being discovered. So your map looks complete but a region wasn’t uncovered. Regions are NOT required for map completion, I have “Been There. Done That.” and have my gifts of exploration but I am missing 1 “region” in Maguuma so one achievement is just hanging there. That region I am missing doesn’t have any POIs or hearts, it’s empty or just happens to be where a certain champ spawns or even a veteran. Current streak is still going… up to 18 chests without a single scrap atm.

I’ve opened hundreds of chests, probably close to 400 at this point. I’ve gotten 2 whole tickets and 6 tickets worth of scraps (which got me 3 chiro greatsword skins (I bought them during Halloween, only 1 ticket and sold for 85 G a piece); a pair of scelerite skins and one zodiac to flip, total gain on those was about 150 gold). I also got a ton of things I won’t use as well as a lot of loot of varying value, including exotics and a ton of rares.

How many lottery tickets do you buy before you win? Do you keep buying lottery tickets? I am going to guess yes. This is the exact same principal except if you hit big with a chest you will never again argue with the process.

I have killed probably 250,000 NPCs in PvE and have 6500 kills in WvW. I got one precursor on a random mob drop. That one precursor was enough to never complain about RNG again.

Most of the things in the gemstore aren’t really worth their price.

For example, it would take you a long, long time gathering with an infinite harvesting tool to gather the amount of mats you could get by simply converting the same amount of gems to gold and buying the mats off the trading post.

The same effect is true for pretty much everything in the trading post that isn’t an exclusive armor skin.

But apparently people would rather have the items for the novelty of it, so they keep buying them, so ANet has no reason to lower prices.

To be honest, the gathering tools would take years to pay for themselves but for me it is the convenience and backpack space. I never have to wonder or waste space on spares. This may seem to be a stretch for some but it makes my play time easier and the sickle from the Aetherblade release can be used as I run by a node, I don’t even stop….the orich sickle takes 3X the time.

Buttercup. That is a fascinating find and fascinating idea.

Cassocaster: Would you be better off with what you got from the chests or taking the same number of gems, converting them to gold and buying what you want on TP?
In order for keys to have value, you would have to value (and that is very subjective to the player) what you get from a chest (random) versus what you could get that you pick TP. Given the randomness there would be a pretty compelling case for the chest to be quite a bit better.

At this point, my 2 main toons have ascended weapons, one has a full complement of ascended trinkets and I am working on the second set. I only use gold for market speculation and consumables since I am very tied to the looks I have created for my characters and believe them, currently, to be “tricked out” as far as I want to take them.

This means I have surplus gold (no, I won’t send anyone any of it) and no true “want” for my characters that cannot be crafted since I am 400 in chef, jeweler, armorsmith and 500 in huntsmen, weapon smith, artificer and leather smith. Tailor is only to 435 but I am not rushing that. That and creative skinning (like using Godskull weapons, for example, or karma armor) keeps my costs down, I have the mats from farming and drops/salvage.

I take a small amount of that gold to take a stab at getting some cool item but always come back with something useful. I can see your point, if I wanted high end dyes still, I am not going to roll the dice with a BLTC chest because 40 gold can buy a number of very rare dyes but the chance at something new or out of reach in a chest is very low.

I look at my key purchases to be a bit like lottery tickets, few win big but only those that play can win.

The only thing I use gems for IS the chests (I did buy character slots, bank expansion and all of the gathering tools with gems but now those tools are account bound, I just swap them onto the character I may be using that day). I have had excellent luck and now that the tonics will be gone, I will continue to buy gems from gold and turnover chests.

Very rarely is a chest devoid of anything useful. It may be an armor, killstreak, crafting or speed booster but those have tangible value. Dyes are always useful considering they are character bound.

I think you should give the chests more of a chance, try saving 40 gold and convert that to gems, it should give you enough to get another 5 keys…..

If you have fields of ruin, iron marches, gendarren, kessex, harathi, diessa plateau, bloodtide or Lornar’s pass mapped then farm those areas extensively during your hour or two of play. Salvage equipment drops for an increase in your Magic Find and sell the mats from the salvage and what you gathered. Do any and all non-heart events in these zones, the hearts give good exp but not a lot of payout whereas the events pay decent and scale with level.
