The forum itself is/was a 2 edged sword. In the opening days, it was actually solid content but as people got angry about matchups, collusion, claims of cheating, what ever, it got ugly. I was mad but I didn’t really put it to the page in a mean way, at least I hope I didn’t. Anyone reading these posts know that is painting it kindly. We were rotten. A lot of good information went out as well, it was constructive, well intended and honest. But mostly, it was, as ANet puts it, toxic.
I think that some people can handle being ribbed or called out, I count myself in that crowd. A lot of people cannot and while you can stomp your feet about them taking away a medium that had turned into a catfight, oops, kitten fight, remember you aren’t the only one playing the game.
If you think they’re losing membership, you’re crazy. They are going after WoW and part of that process is cleaning up the way we, the users, complain. Their current ad campaigns are crazy and they are using this opportunity to tell you who actually runs the show.
I am fairly certain, at this point, they could care less what “we think” it should be. Use other means of communications and remember that what you are writing could be read by a 10 year old, what kind of image does that leave in that kid’s head about our game play?? A lot of you have 10 year olds, how would you feel if they read what parents really feel about life being fair…..
thanks for the additional info ich
This is a known exploit of the tomes. They will fully rez you as long as you are not dead and work in both in PvE as well as WvW. Is it cheezy, yup, absolutely but according to what I’ve read, it’s within the scope of the rules. Check the release notes for Winters Day, one of the follow up patches was to correct a bug that prohibited the use of the tome in WvW…..
As a backline fighter when running with my ranger and the zerg. I plan my LB barrage just as the 2 forces are coming together. I have over 55% crit chan and 60% crit damage. Add to that AoE (superior sigil of fire) and I can potential strike 35 players per volley of which there are 8 (if the stars align while Jupiter is in retrograde) but I am definitely hitting 40 between direct hits or splash damage from the AoE. That means I have 40 limping, burnt and damaged opponents for those tough guardians and warriors to pummel. During the same time I’ve called my spider to fight by my side and it launches poison into the zerg, slowing healing and causing more damage, oblivious of armor. He gets killed? Out comes the snow leopard for mauling and rending strikes since we’re up close and personal at this point.
When things get tight I swap to greatsword and entangle, quickening zephyr followed by hilt butt (or whatever that stun is called). Then I turn tail and get back to bow range and kite using #3 on the greatsword, swap my weapons and then gain invisibility for 3 seconds (#3 on the LB) to collect my pet and pick a new target who I use the interrupt shot #4.
It works sometimes!
I haven’t seen this but I think it would be a great one….
Why Don’t You Just [RTFM]
Medium armor is to keep the player light on their feet while not giving them ridiculous speed. They can play almost every weapon, ‘cept engineers who have a flamethrower or whatever they’ve picked, no true alt bank of skills.
Thieves, well. I hate thieves. I wouldn’t do anything to them except nerf a few more traits since the last patch did nothing. Still way over powered in a roaming environment and perfect for havoc. Useless in the zerg.
I think the thing that is toughest about medium armor classes is that they are difficult to master. A player cannot just mash the 1 key and survive the melee, they have to dodge, swap skills, think about which pet to use (any spider can immobilize and provide AoE poison) and when to swap them, heal, drop conditions, etc, etc. That’s the real trick, learn your class. People also need to learn when it’s time to run, live to fight another day.
<Off topic/>I truly believe the ranger class is under-appreciated. We do have good AoE from the pets (as listed above) and we are very good at single missions where more than one person gets noticed. In a small group you have the perfect scout with high survivability, ways to stops foes with muddy terrain and entangle and one of the best heals that exists. I read so many posts where the perma stealth thief pegs the ranger first with their backstab because they’re squishy. My ranger is rank 138 with 5800 kills, I don’t view myself as squishy. Do I do throw astronomical DPS, no, but I am a kitten ton of mobility over a warrior or guardian while plaguing them endlessly. 1V1 I am confident I can beat any heavy armor class despite the difference in DPS. I struggle with Mesmers and thieves…..but I am building a Mesmer so perhaps that will change, time will tell.
Despite my agreement with the fact that some of these builds are over powered, they aren’t going anywhere. I got ganked (as well as 2 server mates) by a good Mesmer this morning. He out fought 3 people and then, as I lay dead on the ground, he bowed to me. I though, that’s a classy move, you beat me but you didn’t jump up and down on my face to rub it in, you bowed. That’s the way that type of build should be played, not as a na-na-na, I kicked your tail.
We are not going to convince ANet, OP’d thieves and mesmers to drop these builds. Would you want someone to take away your best weapons and give you a blue level 20 staff to play with? How about stripping your condi dmg or making it victim to the defense of armor?
Every class has something, burst damage, stealth, overly long range for a ranger, ahem. If we take these advantages that ALL occupations have, it will get boring super fast. I am sure you have used your necro to damage someone through a wall, not many classes can do that.
I say that if you want to fight them, fight them but if you find that the battle is not fun because of the build’s power, use your abilities to escape the opponent and deny them their reward instead of handing it to them by pulling an ALT-F4. If you die fighting then at least you made them earn it and potentially a team mate will come along to rez or finish the weakened foe off.
O, and don’t forget to involve the flora and fauna as well when in a fight like this. Nothing like a riled up Veteran Oakheart or a flock of perturbed moas to make everyone’s life a little more interesting. They are equal opportunity attackers! As I said before, happy roaming.
I have cleared a camp solo in under a minute as a ranger using a spider for AoE poison….I think any class can do it, you just can’t run in like a screaming banshee. No offense to any banshees that may be reading this post.
I would say PvE content has stolen a burnt out audience. When Edges of the Mists hits, the population will return and likely even before then. Everyone is grabbing the free loot right now.
Move alt account on enemy server. -> Keep zoning in and out after taking supply. -> Waste enemy server’s supply very effectively. I know there are people who’d try this.
This type of thing is what’s helping to undermine server trust. With season 1 there was so much distrust in fellow players that it led to some very interesting posts and conversations.
There should be a period of time between registration on a server and the ability to join WvW, especially during the season.
As for supply, I really like these ideas, especially running supply to help stock a tower or keep. I have run enough siege in an hour to build all the oil burning and cannon sites in SM. People really should be taking the role of mule more seriously.
Sometimes you get rolled, sometimes you get tea bagged but the only answer is to port, repair and keep learning. Be the good loser as well as the good winner and in all honesty, happy roaming.
I agree with this 100%. Please do not think that I do not. It has more to do with a fight not being a fun fight rather than getting rolled or rolling. Of course fights where the other player is much better than you or much worse than you and are one sided in that way tend to be less fulfilling than even matchups or matchups with a slighter variation in skill level. But those are not the fights that I am talking about. I am talking about the fights where regardless of the outcome or skill level, the nature of the fight is not fun.
And I wish you happy roaming too. I really do enjoy running into others who enjoy good, fun fights[/quote]
I appreciate your thoughtful and balanced response and I do understand the PIA some of these builds forces on you. I had hoped the Winters Day patch would have addressed some of it but they made it worse. Don’t quit, even if the fight is not fun because you are getting a lesson there, one way or the other.
That many comments for a troll post……amazing.
What I find ironic is the roamer is a roamer for a reason. Perma stealth thieves are paper in a zerg, so are multi illusion mesmers. The reason you are roaming is likely the same, your “power necro” probably gets steamrolled in the zerg. You are roaming and so are these build types because you both have the same problem, you’re weak against multiple opponents and therefore cannot compete in open battle.
This is not a dig, it’s a simple truth, light armor toons cannot stand arrow carts, siege in general crushes them so you don’t see front line mesmers/engineers/necros all that often, not that it cannot be accomplished.
So, in your roaming, as you pick off sentries and caravans, you come across another human. Uh oh….not an NPC, might have a dangerous build and you go for ALT-F4? I spent 20 minutes with 4 other players trying to nail down a stupid perma stealth thief. He killed all of us at least once, but I didn’t rage quit, I kept trying because that’s the only way I will ever learn how to beat them. If I run and hide because the build “isn’t fair” then I am always going to run and hide.
Case in point, I have a condi necro with, at buff, 79% crit chance and 65% crit damage. My staff has a superior sigil of torment which cause an AoE of Torment for 8 seconds with a cool down of 7. That’s pretty much perma torment in a zerg and really annoying in 1V1 for the other player who’s been blinded, tormented and condi damaged to the 10th degree. How is that fair that condition damage ignores armor?
That warrior/ranger/whatever is thinking, aw man, this is helpless but guess what, that’s the way it works. Sometimes you get rolled, sometimes you get tea bagged but the only answer is to port, repair and keep learning. Be the good loser as well as the good winner and in all honesty, happy roaming.
You do have achievements in WvW but like PvE, you only get rank points for each level. Getting achievements for playing the same and gaining ranks seems a little too simple. I have a ranger that MUST be level 600 in PvE but once I got past 80, that was it. He’s rank 125 in the mists but I was rewarded during the trip up.
Not only that but they give decent rewards for climbing ranks, 2 greens, 10 badges and some amount of silver, for me it averages around 15 silver per level.
I think if you split based on rank, lower ranks will not have the experienced peers to learn from and they will not know the game the same way. I feel you need to jump in with both feet and keep fighting, it’s the only way to learn
Every Friday at 9 PM EST in North America.
it’s also important to know what crit damage you are causing but given what I read, Bloodlust would be my choice.
Do away with Soulbound items in favor of account bound items, and you have a point.
And destroy plenty of markets in the process?
No.
Um….soul bound gear has no market except the Mystic Forge or a salvage kit….what market are you referring to, crafting?
Is damask time gated?
Well, they caught it…I was the lucky recipient of 10 by opening gift boxes, latest patch to the patch fixed:
•Fixed a bug that caused Charged Quartz Crystals to drop instead of Quartz Crystals.
If you remove the incentives for the towers and keeps, your server population will return to PvE. Maybe that’s what you want…dunno but without that population, you won’t be able to capture much.
I play on SBI and it’s really a PvE server and we were leading Maguuma and Yak’s Bend up until the patch for Wintersday and then, poof, no more population and we’re in third place with no chance of regaining. We have strong guilds that maintain a presence but we aren’t getting the clicks we need because people are chasing the yellows elsewhere.
I would rather have the zerg when my server is trying to take a keep or stonemist. I can roam on my own or in a small group if I decide the the monotony of running with the zerg is too much. The zerg will stay…..
Have to second warrior with Axe/Axe with LB or Rifle for your ranged weapon. Big health pool, deals a ton of damage and fairly easy to run with.
Don’t use a Norn if you are doing jumping puzzles with your mesmer….they’re big oafs.
To be fair, some people cannot do jumping puzzles and they counted for 4 of the 18 possible achievements. I got one of the borderland jumping puzzles but ended up rage quitting the exact copies in the other 2 borderlands because, well, I suck at jumping puzzles. That meant I had to finish every other achievement EXCEPT merc camps. I killed 450 enemies, I nabbed 225 sentries and dolyaks. I took SM 5 times, etc, etc. The majority of the tasks were achieved through normal gameplay but dolyaks required a determined effort and a lot of griefing to get it done and I can see how a task like that could demand more than the average day in the mists. I was not in EB for the majority of my yak kills though.
An achievement is an achievement, partials don’t count, not in dailies, monthlies or any other area of the game. I don’t get the slayer of centaurs achievement until the 1000th one falls, either you do the achievements to completion or you don’t, pro rating is not an option. Despite your efforts on a daily basis, everyone doesn’t get the gold star.
At the end of the day though, it wasn’t worth the effort though my magic find went up about a quarter of a point with the 1 rare and 6 greens I got in my chest. I do have a toon that’s not leveled so the tomes are helpful. My server finished third so no finisher but who cares, it was temporary.
Condition dmg seems like a good tack….
The problem, as I see it, with permastealth is that it simply is, as another poster stated, a total time waster. I have to guard every caravan with 5 other people just to keep a phasing thief from killing the yak and everyone escorting it. I AoE, I slash and hack at air, I throw Entangle or Muddy Terrain to try and trap them but they teleport out, gain 2 more initiative and hide again. It is purely a griefer role to be a permastealth thief and that is it. In melee, open field zerg battles or keep/tower assaults, you don’t find the thief. You find them hiding by a simple sentry post or shadowing a caravan waiting for someone to guard it. I am glad ANet is at least creating the possibility of whacking the thief.
However, for a well played thief, this nerf won’t change their back stab or other initiative driven talents. As a matter of fact, they may be losing perma stealth but they are gaining base initiative speed so a D/D thief will still be able to spin over 5 players and throw bleed stacks like no tomorrow and just back up as their victims bleed out or drop into stealth for the three seconds and throw a back stab on a nearly dead toon.
It was noticeable this weekend that the thieves know their time is coming because they have been out in force in WvW, griefing like crazy ahead of the nerf.
I play a ranger, roamer build, ranger runes, knights armor, LB/GS with a panther and alt spider for AoE poison. I find the class to very helpful for Healing Spring, Entangle and the signet of the hunt for staying at the head of the zerb. Timing the long bow volley with the zerg presents a ton of bags and kills (my ranger is rank 125 and has logged 5K kills), I run an ascended bow with AoE sigil of fire but……
The toon is weak with multiple opponents, without a doubt and I rely on escaping more than I like to admit with GS #3. 1V1, the class is only as good as the person running the keys and I win some and lose some. The condi removal, low health pool and lack of true power can be frustrating but for havoc and roaming, the class really is very powerful.
I took my warrior out yesterday and brought them into WvW and there’s a huge difference in survivability and kills to time ratio. The warrior is only rank 17 but I got 3 ranks in about 2 hours and 80 kills. Same time with my ranger this morning and I logged 60 and 1 rank.
What I will end with is that the ranger is NEVER boring, can handle a LOT of situations where they are up against a single or 2 opponents or as a griefer taking out supply, camps, sentries or just slowing things down with muddy terrain or entangle. The class should never be dismissed out of hand but like Eles and Engineers, you have to know the class to play it well.
Haven’t seen my chest yet but I got a heck of a lot of rewards finishing the meta which was made up of a ton of small rewards I most likely wouldn’t have pursued without ANet collecting them and making a title that was representative of the work I put in. Who really kills 225 Dolyaks in 7 weeks?
Any bonus, however small, is still a bonus. Everyone was posting BEFORE the chests came that they would be paltry yet all these comments are those of surprise. Did you honestly think otherwise while you were posting they would be junk? That sounds like lying to yourself to me.
ANet made no promises and even laid out the details for all to read. I hear mewling….
Actually all Anet needs to do is create an exchange merchant in Lions Arch where one could exchange Dragonite Ingot, Bloodstone Brick, or Empyreal Star. “Got to much Bloodstone Brick and not enough Dragonite Ingot go exchange your Bloodstone Brick for some Dragonite Ingot—that simple.”
This, is a great idea…..
People are burning piles of blood stone dust because in WvW you get tons of it, every tower or keep lord has some in a little pouch for you, perhaps there’s a reason we got so much of one and hardly any of the other? I know gossamer is gonna get pricey…..that’s about all I can figure at this point regarding armor. ANet seems to be pretty quiet about the new Tier 7 mats for armor.
Trading dragonite for badges gives an unfair advantage to heavy WvW players, the cost would have to be proportionate to the ease of acquiring badges. I don’t hear people complaining that they can buy exotic level armor with badges, rather cheaply, I might add.
Also realize that PvE champion farmers (who get piles of dragonite) mostly stay in PvE rotating their toons to get more and more.

There’s no reason to fear ascended armor in WvW. Do you have any idea how long it will take to make a suit? To the OP, do you feel the same about ascended trinkets? Some people never do dailies or monthlies, how do they get ascended baubles? They don’t.
I don’t care as long as I don’t wear green for the eighth week in a row
