What you could do is buy assets that are relatively safe and rise with inflation. It can act as your “bank” but mainly you won’t lose money due to inflation.

I was thinking this as well. Take 100 gold and order a HUGE number of items for way too low a price. Pretty sure there’s no limit to how much you can spend on the TP. Order 1000 Giant Eyes at 10 silver each. If they ever get that low you’ll be rich but more likely, you’ll have found a safe haven for your money.

Are you sure that you didn’t create a lot more than the 248 exotic runes used in the initial data set?

Funny, I count 63 runes in that image….whose math is circumspect? 2/3 of 248 would be 165.

This is my last post, you win, I made it all up and everyone just wasted their time reading my information. I’ll be sure to record the next time so you can peruse 6 hours of video footage to make sure I am not lying.

You have an issue friend, why you have it with me when I have done nothing but try to show people what it takes to forge runes successfully is beyond me. You cling to questioning my results when everyone’s results will be different. A point I have made numerous times.

Because I myself wanted to know, I went back through the last 1000 sales I have made on the TP. This takes me back 9 days from right now. In those 9 days I tallied the travelers and the divinities. I did not take screen shots so go ahead and call me a liar again but I forged 23 travelers and 18 divinities during that time frame.

I apologies to others for turning this thread into a defensive series of posts, I never intended for it to be anything but informational.

The point is that claiming to have gotten an extreme outlier of a result is not making an informative point of the value for the effort; it is, in fact, misleading people about the level of value for the effort.

If you really and truly did get 12 traveler’s and 10 divinities from that sample, you very likely just had the best luck with that many runes that anyone has ever had. It is in no way representative of what typically comes out of the forge when you throw in runes.

Realistically, you’re looking at getting around 4 of each from that many forges.

(EDIT – This market is enormous and you’ll randomly see streaks like this somewhere in the data set, but that doesn’t make it any more likely to show up in a particular, isolated test where someone is taking notes)

I wish I could sort my sold items by price. Please don’t call me a liar. Not only did I get that many of each, I also got 2 divinities IN A ROW and that wasn’t the first time, it’s happened a total of four times, 2 times each with divinities and travelers. I don’t even know what the odds are of getting that, it’s way off the charts.

I notice you want to hone in on the good ones so let me also say that I got more than a full set of every soulbound rune. Baelfire, Forge, Monks, all. My magic find is 131%, I’ve spent around $700US on gems in the last year so maybe those impact me.

I really attempted to stay away from what came out of the forge as I was trying to say what you have to put in to get money back. Surely 23 sets should be 70 major runes per superior, as you get 22 majors, which you just feed back in (92-22=70). As for the table itself, it’s just an experiment related to binomial distribution.

Your advice on soul bound runes is interesting however, now that I would have liked to see some data on.

You are counting the returned runes as “free” in your statement but 22 casts is still 88 runes, no matter where they came from and the average cost has to represent that.

The soulbound runes however, those were pesky. If I put one in with three non soulbound runes, I would get a soulbound more often than not. I did not pursue this path since it is akin to throwing gold away. I will add that putting four soulbound in one pass is what I did do and I never got a soulbound back but that sampling was so small as to not be relevant. Try it but you have to churn through a bunch of normal runes, get a large sample, say 100 soulbound, and then bleed them into your mix in varying amounts comparing your control data to that of the soulbound runes….

Why do you have to wreck perfectly good data by posting some donkeykitten one in a million anecdote?

Now I have to wonder what else in the original data you felt like making up to tell a better story. Once you provide evidence that you’re willing to make stuff up to get more attention, there’s no way anyone can ever take data you post seriously.

I initially created this data not to show WHAT a person could earn but that seems to be the final consideration here. I am trying to show people what they can EXPECT when they start rune forging. It’s monotonous, it doesn’t matter what you feed in, RNG doesn’t care. So my point in bringing those 2 runes up is that those grab everyone’s attention and makes the point of the value of the effort.

People put 100 runes though the forge and expect that they make their money back. They might but more likely it will take 500, 1000 runes before you see a return.

As far as taking me seriously, gimme a break, I tracked this as I was interested in what the average casts per superior were and more than 50% of my runes took 5 casts or less. That’s what this is about, that’s all.

Sorry I am not being clear. It’s a ton of data and you’re right, I don’t say what I made off of them because your results might vary. I am try to explain that you have to sit through hundreds of runes without any result. All the time thinking the money goes down a hole and it was all a waste.

Since the bottom line will be what this boils down to, I invested 151 gold, I earned back 260 gold, roughly 70% return in 2 days. I had to grind. It wasn’t fun and I got to the point of madness but my sample is large enough to show what volume you need to make the money, you have to be patient.

No, it’s how many “passes” of the Mystic Forge slot machine before I got another superior. For example, you get very lucky and drop 4 majors in and instantly get a superior. That superior cost you 4 majors, 1 “pass” of the slot machine.

But, it usually takes multiple passes to get another. My list shows how many passes I encountered. Make sense? I am really trying to show that it takes a lot of majors and sometimes you might roll the slot machine 20 plus times before it answers with a win.

Before you continue, tl;dr warning.
If you don’t really want to know what you could experience from the Mystic Forge based on my time spent processing 4194 major runes** over the last 2 days, stop here. Oh, you’re still with me, good.

What did I learn and why should you care?

This is meant to be helpful, not in what you will get out of the forge. I am not going to get to the microscopic level of telling you that you have a .005% chance at pulling a travelers, RNG is RNG. This is trying to impart the experience of the process and the magnitude of consumption. I am going to tell you what to expect as far as what it’s going to cost you. Bottom line, you can make a ton of gold but it’s a grind and you need to do your homework.

First, some basic observations that were helpful to me but had to be learned the hard way:

1) You can put 4 of the same rune in…I had never tried it, the same exact results as combos, four of the same rarity and you’re golden

2) Watch out for soulbound majors(superiors as well) being spit back at you. THESE ARE TOXIC to your forging. Sell them outright or only batch them together as a single soulbound has a very good chance of giving another soulbound rune from the forge. Evil. Bring them to a vendor.

3) It takes money to make money. See ** below for what I spent. I won’t tell what I earned but it was enough to continue doing it with hundreds of runes still on order as I write this.

4) Be patient. You’ll see why in a second.

So, what I calculated was how many sets of 4 Major Runes it took to get my 248 superior runes which were then sold on the TP. 1 set of runes would 4, 2 sets, 8…you get the point. When you see the numbers, that is how many passes between superiors. These were processed at about 1200 hundred an hour in the vigil forge. I watched the incredibles and sorted some of my son’s Pokemon cards, yawn.

I run through 1-10 sets (then the real ugly numbers of above 10 sets per superior) and show how many superiors I got and how majors it took to get EACH one. The numbers are numbing towards the end of the scale.

Here we go:

1 set between superiors, 4 per superior: 48 superiors; cost: 192 major runes

2 sets between…, 8 per superior: 40 superiors; cost: 320 major runes

3 sets, 12 per superior: 30 superiors; cost: 360 major runes

4 sets, 16 per superior: 26 superiors; cost: 416 major runes

5 sets, 20 per superior: 25 superiors; cost: 500 major runes

6 sets, 24 per superior: 11 superiors; cost: 286 major runes

7 sets, 28 per superior: 22 superiors; cost: 616 major runes

8 sets, 32 per superior: 11 superiors; cost: 352 major runes

9 sets, 36 per superior: 7 superiors; cost: 252 major runes

10 sets, 40 per superior: 5 superiors; cost: 200 major runes

11 sets, 44 per superior: 4 superiors; cost: 176 major runes

12 sets, 48 per superior: 4 superiors; cost: 192 major runes

13 sets, 52 per superior: 2 superiors; cost: 104 major runes

14 sets, 56 per superior: 5 superiors; cost: 280 major runes

15 sets, 60 per superior: 4 superiors; cost: 240 major runes

16 sets, 64 per superior: 2 superiors; cost: 128 major runes

17-21, didn’t get any but:

22 sets, 88 per superior: 1 superiors; cost: 88 major runes

23 sets, 92 per superior: 1 superiors; cost: 92 major runes

Total superior runes: 248

Total major runes destroyed/forged: 4,194

The price skyrocketed today because power cores/watchknight loot has dropped off considerably. There is speculation it is a bug or that they nerfed it to one per day, so supply is getting drained.

Nerfing it to 1 per day, would mean you will be lucky to get 10 cores of 1 color within 14 days.

It’s not 1 per day. The first day, I got a loot from the first knight and none on the next 5 (so I thought it was one per day)
24 hours later, I killed 3 more knights and got no loot
one more day, one more knight killed, no loot, didn’t even bother with the other 2 knights.
it’s definitely not 1 per day.

I thought to get the loot you had to be one of the top damage inflictors…I have landed 2 of the cores but promptly sold them, the first went for 3.5G, the one I sold this morning after reading this post sold for 6, thanks!

Issue I see with this build is it’s a hybrid, and hybrid’s don’t threaten anyone when its a thief doing it. You have 3k attack, and 700 condi dmg. Assassin’s retreat is kitten aweful especially when you choose it over VR or even Power of inertia, p/p is not strong in any form and it’s even weaker when going hybrid.

As far as pve goes, you can really run anything as long as you are aware of the enemy encounters and what to expect in each stage. But don’t expect to be in groups for long running #3 spam of any kind.

I kind of need a hybrid build for roaming, I went with what could kill up to 5 NPCs in this last patch to tweak the build. Did you read the first build or the last? I swapped out P/P for short bow as well as other trait line alterations.

The quaggan potions are already climbing, black is over 20 copper again. Blueprint pieces have all crossed over a silver again, the scarlet tonic is still dirt cheap though….

If you recall, at the same time as the gas mask was a new healing skill, specific to poisons….it’s either 25 or 30 skill points. Drops poison conditions…not attached to the gas mask but released at the same time.

After slogging through that kitten tower, I don’t want the gas mask easily attainable. That tower was one of the toughest friggin’ things ever and frustrating as all get out, I don’t want to see what took me a week to finish placed on a shelf for 1000 gems.

Interesting, out of 100 bags, I will average about 4 blueprints and 100+ shards. And, the shards seem to be so prevalent, there may be another use for them whereas once you’ve outfitted your toon with the spinal piece, why would you need the blueprint so you would sell it. Dunno what will happen, patch is loading right now!

I don’t know how much time you’ve spent in LA doing events but I’ve made 3 exotic backpieces and still have 3500 shards (I was leveling a thief, really easy there). Unless people have destroyed them, at which point I agree with your point, until that supply runs out, players still need the blueprint. I am only holding what drops, I haven’t bought any but I will be watching them closely.

Of anything that’s an investment from this event, it’s the tonics. I bought 1000 standard ones at 6-8 copper each. Once this event is over, even if it’s another 2 weeks of getting bags (though I doubt since we won’t be rescuing anyone, we’ll be taking back the city), these quaggan potions have serious growth potential.

Same with back piece blue print pieces and the scarlett war tonics. Show me any other consumable that gives you -10%/+10 damage versus 4 different enemy types? Or show me an easier way to get an exotic back piece? You can say Grenth all you want but you gotta get there first.

LA up levels everyone so acquisition of the blade shards, which I promise will continue in the next patch, is easy for everyone, the blueprints may or may not be dropping in loot bags in the next patch. Haven’t seen anything on Dulfy yet, anyone know?

If you have an item with 3% chance and you are guaranteed to get it after your 11th try, it’s not a 3% chance anymore: it’s a 9% chance (or actually bigger, because I don’t wanna do maths and I know it’d be bigger)!!

This is incorrect, unfortunately. Having run about 30K major runes and sigils through the forge, there is NO method to the madness of RNG, it is completely random. So random that I have pulled 2 Lyssas in a row as well as 2 divinities and 2 travelers. What are the odds of that? Well beyond realistic. Am I just lucky? No, I provided enough material to actually see the generator cough up things that were worthwhile.

In my mystic forging, with major runes, the longest streak I have gone without a superior is 22 casts. 88 major runes are about 4 gold. 4g without anything but I continue to do it because over time and quantity, I win out, every time.

The BLTP chests are the same exact thing. You need to open thousands in order to gather a true return. Problem is, who spends thousands of real dollars to get those 1000 keys? 200X450 gems=90000 gems. There is no scaling price on gems (meaning I don’t get more if I spend more) so 2000 gems is $35 US. 90000/2000 = 45 sets of 2000 gems. $35X45 = $1575US to open 1000 chests. Kitten that, I’ll see you at the forge.

The thing is that even 103 chests, while not a tiny number and expensive to open, don’t even dent the RNG engine. You would need thousands of chests to guarantee a solid hit on a major loot drop. Speculators buying up supply doesnt diminish supply as it is an artificial demand. They dont use any of it.

There are hundreds of thousands of t6 claws currently banked.

It may not be artificial to those that are actually using it which helps cause the price spike. As a crafter, I may only need 30 vicious claws for my armor so paying a premium is a small impact most are willing to take where as the speculator has a vested interest in not only keeping the supply in control (via your bank comment) but also trying to keep the price down while they continue to accumulate.

They can only do this until the supply is actually choked because those that farm it normally for immediate sale are doing living story events to earn their coin. People banking tier 6 are likely speculators or people unaware of what they have but I would guess more of the former. Ultimately, as with any speculation, this one may bite speculators in the kitten because they may have held too much and now have to control how much they re-sell to avoid flooding the market and washing that growth away.

The demand for T6 will continue for the next 2 weeks (really from the new patch on Tuesday) because it’s so easy to stay in LA. Who wants to port from event to event when they can run in a circle and get 15 events in 45 minutes? Probably longer because players will have to return to high tier farming after the living story and rebuild the supply. I would imagine these will continue to climb.

With the current event in LA quick leveling is cake. I had a level 1 thief on Saturday, 7 days ago, and I’ve used the toon for mystic forge use and the LA event only, about an hour and a half a day with her so probably around 10 hours total. She is at 62 today and I didn’t even try to fast level. I spent the collection items for tomes of knowledge and used the knowledge scrolls from the bags. She will have dagger storm by level 65, under normal leveling you wouldn’t be able to acquire that Elite skill until 5 levels AFTER reaching 80.

I also think people are hedging on the other side of that as well, not stocking up but liquidating through the forge. In a week the average rune has gone up about 70 copper. This is based on my buying over 5K of a variety of runes, all on offer over the last 5-6 days. I am also seeing that superiors are dropping, may be supply due to everyone either hording or gambling but the price for the raw (rare majors) has gone up and the cost of the output (superiors) has lowered, cutting the margins.

Someone, over the last 2 days, has literally ordered hundreds of every major rune at 4 silver. Sometimes outbidding the next lowest offer by 50+ copper. This is pretty decent outlay of gold. 500X4.00S X and say 60 runes that can be purchased = 1300 gold and who knows how many they initially ordered. The magnitude of rune purchasing would be very interesting to know, perhaps the direct question could be made to JS:

“How long does it take the market to go through 1 million runes/sigils of all rarities?”

As far as major sigils or runes into the forge or even to stock, I have to pull back, I cannot make as decent a return…just keep running LA, money is quicker. Long term I am looking at other mats.

As far as the rune/sigil rumor mill, are they going to nerf the lock on soulbound on acquire superior runes that can be acquired via various dungeons but also the forge, such as baelfire, sanctuary and nightmare. Do we have any hope they will make these account bound?

This most efficient means of gold making are not necessarily conducive to “fun”. Not wanting to farm high demand mats or working buy low sell high on the TP will hinder you from making a ton of gold but the cost of that gold can be boring. 20 gold a day is not as difficult as some people might have you believe.

The most gold currently, is in LA through mats and weapon/armor drops. Some of these items will need to “cure” and gather their value. I might suggest not selling your endless quaggan tonics though I was fairly lucky day 1 of the current living story and grabbed an endless mystery and blue tonics and made 20 gold on them. Of course they’re low gold value now but in a couple of months, they’ll be back up.

For myself, I farm, I forge runes and sigils and I run high volume events. I also think fractals are decent reward for time spent. Good luck

I named her before the armor skins were released but man, does it fit though if not just a touch revealing, Opal Essence. BTW, people run around me all the time to see if she is actually naked….

Latest build, swapped P/P for SB, went with pure carrion gear and trinkets, chrysocola jewel upgrades. Went with rune of tormenting but currently have a full set of nightmare runes.

On my utilities I tried to maximize on stealth and stun breaks but would appreciate guidance there. Thanks for your help, latest build:

1st point get a decent stunbreaker on your utility bar either roll for initiative or shadowstep.

2nd trait condition removal in stealth (you really need that)

3rd drop P/P get a bow

4th trait Mug (you want the extra healing on steal)

5th use carrion gear and focusing crystals, ignore crit chance

6th trait blind on stealth for cnd

7th either use runes of speed or lyssa runes or a pure condition rune set

8th put caltrops on your utility bar

Your main source of damage needs to be conditions with a build like that use direct damage only to finish low hp targets, you will need to play the “attrition game” you win if you survive and annoy your enemy.

All in all that kind ofbuild is sub par since other proffessions are way better at that kind of playstyle, that should not deter you however if you like that kind of playstyle, just be aware that you are in for some uphill battles.

(2nd edit) drop the might on kill sigils, get gain condition damage stacks on kill sigils instead.

Excellent, thank you. I was thinking that the toon would have strong survival but you make very good points. This is a character I am rolling now, she is only level 25 so I have time.

This build is designed around a ton of power, survivability and condition damage with stacking bleeds. P/P and D/D alt weapon sets. Let me know if this would be viable as a roamer build in WvW and/or PvE:

Why is everyone so upset about the airship? What is there that cannot be consumed in any of the capital cities? There are crafting locations everywhere, there’s a mystic forge right next to the new waypoint. The only thing is crafting unless there’s something I am missing…..
