Exotics were stated to be the top tier, and yes, they changed that. They will add another gear level above ascended’s stats in the future if they feel this will make them more money and/or they feel they need to give players additional sumthin, sumthin to do.
Anything that has happened once can happen again, so there are never going to be any guarantees. You can simply hope they won’t reach a place where they feel this would be necessary, but yes, it can happen. If it does, they will simply have another logical explanation for it just like they did when they tossed ascended stats into the mix.
Once again, we have a grind thread where no real discussion can take place because we all have a different definition of what grind is. lol
It is not a good idea to remove daily from hot joint because if it can’t be completed there, players will join arenas. So imagine a lot of new/casual/non-competitive/testing build players in arenas…
This. You do not want people doing their dailies in competitive maps. What a mess and headache that would be.
“God, just stop whining and do some PvP and WvW dailies!” – I hear you say now. YOU take a non-lvl 80 into either of those and see how friendly people are. Or do you want me to do the dailies on my max-level toon, and only level up my low-level toons with the books/scrolls?
Structured PvP has absolutely nothing to do with level. Just take any char you have into an empty pvp arena with a friend and finish them in, like, 5 minutes. Then go level your other chars like normal.
If TP flippers don’t play any other parts of the game, why would they need the gold?
Obviously, our sole purpose is to destroy the fun for other players, while John Smith takes care of the devs.
John, did it ever happen that a new feature or game mechanic that was proposed internally by the dev team was vetoed by you because it would have too big of an impact on the economy?
50 Times a week, I am the destroyer of the designers intention to make people happy.
Am I the only one who reads these forums almost exclusively for posts written by Wanze?
Nah, I read it for the drama that ensues every time articles like today’s come out.
Balance is something that is no doubt going to take another hit once HoT comes out what with the new elite specializations, etc. They’ll be working on fine-tuning balance for a long time to come after the expansion, so I guess I’d wait to see what finally emerges a couple a months down the road or so.
I’d simply avoid hotjoins if this is bothersome.
This is unnecessary, as it hurts no one. It seems to me that being bothered by this is just an example of giving into control freak tendencies.
10g for every hour of gameplay?
lol But you know the saying about the majority of statistics…
The one thing that he wants to be scarce is in-game gold. But this isn’t new. Limiting gold acquisition has been GW2’s plan all along.
Players then want to buy gems to convert to gold.
In Be4: “What? Gold is easy to get in this game! I make 5K gold a week and all I do are my dailies!”
Owning a legendary definitely doesn’t mean that a player is good at the game or in any way legendary in talent. They are not top players and they haven’t “won the game.”
OK, imagine all the noobs flooding fractals. I’m a fractal elitist sooooo this makes me very unhappy.
Yeah, this will definitely happen. But then, I get along really well with noobs, so I don’t care.
Of course, this may only be part of the new legendaries temporarily. Legendaries used to require wvw map completions but now they don’t, so they could always remove this requirement in the future.
I fully support the gold removal from dungeons,
The only ones against this are brainless stacking clickers.
Wow, that attitude is so rude!

Old legendaries will continue to use them. New legendaries won’t use them.
If you care so much you can help them with your gold or mats.
I have, from time to time, but I can’t afford to gear more than one or two people, that’s a minimal impact. I prefer to help make it unnecessary for ALL players.
From another thread but I think its important everyone sees how Ohoni thinks, do not let him influence raid design. He doesn’t give a kitten about raiding.
I’m concerned about the game as a whole, and part of that is in making sure that the raids pass the Hippocratic Oath, “First, do no harm.” I’m trying to make sure that whatever raids entail, they do not destroy the existing game.
You didn’t honestly think there would never be a gear treadmill in this game, did you?
It’s what was promised to us before launch.
Yeah, but the thing is, dozens of things they promised before/around launch have since changed. They’ll continue to change in the future, too. If they deem that not enough money is coming into the game or players are slacking off, they will do what they want to fix this. Could be raise the cap, could be add another layer of gear, etc. Anything said about these things previously will become irrelevant.
Devs actively look for ways to slow down players’ consumption of their content. Grind is a proven way to do this. GW2 has always had tons of grind in the hopes that it will slow down players and/or give them “more things to do.” The fact that HoT legendaries will be grindy isn’t surprising to me. They’d prolly love it if it took players 3-5 years before they can reasonably craft their first of the new legendaries because they hope that will keep people playing.
Some exotic skins are way more “legendary” than actual legendaries.
Just sayin’.
If they give 50 gold reward when completing one wing of raid then ok nerf dungeons.
If they give 20 gold reward for finishing fractals then ok nerf dungeons.I don’t think they will buff drops in dungeons, they don’t even know how their rng works, maybe they will increase drop rate of blue items and thats it.
Increased bl key drops are not even showing. Never seen any drops anywhere, not even from my guildies.
Yeah, so far, I’ve seen no change in BL key drops from mobs. But then, I didn’t expect to. Saying they raised the drop rate at the same time they announce the nerf is damage control propaganda, more or less.
If TP flippers don’t play any other parts of the game, why would they need the gold?
Yeah, I think that motive is fairly apparent. I expect non-HoT users to be second-class citizens. Not saying I agree with this, just saying I believe it will be true.
If everyone is saving all these low dollar items because they don’t want to vendor them and hope the prices will come up, how will anyone really make any money? The market will be flooded with these saved items and nothing will have changed.
Like this game, where they often suggest that the best way to play the game is to ignore the rewards, or if you like a gametype so much, you shouldnt need rewards to play it.
Expecting the majority of players on any MMO to play only for the experience and not for any rewards or currency to buy those rewards is naive to the point of stupidity.
For pvp dailies, you don’t really need a daily specific server. You can just grab a guildie, use an empty map, and if anyone joins, just manipulate the outcome. It’s usually easy to do.
Calm down.
They are nerfing salvage because they are moving resources to a less RNG system: Map rewards.
Need silk? In stead of doing whatever it is you do to get 5000 worthless greens and hoping some of them are cloth, and getting frustrated when they are not, you in stead open your map and go “okay, today there’s cloth in brisban wildlands”
And tomorrow, you play a different zone for cloth, and the next day yet another different zone.
On top of that you’re still getting some RNG drops for stuff you’re not specifically after, and selling that for profit.
It will sell for less profit because people can farm for it themselves, but you also need less money because you can reliably farm for stuff yourself.
In the end the change is that in stead of finding the one best farm in terms of loot quantity and doing it for months on end coughsilverwastesandbalmcough you get to determine your objective, and do different content every day in pursuit of it.
How is that not an improvement?
Well its not an improvement if you play sPvP or WvW… but then again that’s buisness as usual, we already know Anet only care about PvE.
Did you miss the bit where sPvP and WvW have shiny new drops that they can sell to PvE heads, because the PvE heads need those drops to build their legendaries?
Cool. Then those of us that pvp and wvw can get rich. Oh, wait…
Yep, new legendaries are going to require players to pvp and wvw.
Or, you know, gold.
Well, new MMOs with dungeon content are being added multiple times every year, so if dungeons are your thing, there will always be something for you. But if you want to play this game exclusively, then…
Um.
I’m guessing that ascended gear mats are going to be 4-5 times the prices they are now following HoT and raids.
I’m surprised so many people even sell to buy orders. I get more money from simply listing and I never have to wait long for my money, so yeah, not sure why people use this.
What I find the most buffling is that they took the time in their blog post to talk about the economy and how “bad” dungeon rewards are for the economy and how they want to nerf the rewards, yet absolutely no mention to things like Silverwastes chest farming. I guess that’s good for the economy and the game but doesn’t aren’t.
They likely view SW farming as having an expiration date already, so they don’t need to specifically kill it. Everyone will be gone from SW more or less come the 23.
I don’t really get why the developers for this game have more or less failed at making dungeons, if what people are saying is true and that they are minimizing dungeons because they’re so imbalanced.
Isn’t dungeon making and dungeons in general a staple of MMO play? Shouldn’t they be able to make good ones and balance them?
I love how they seem to think their economy is balanced when there are items in the game like leathers and jewels, etc. that are worthless on the TP. That’s not really balanced…
I see it as they don’t want another gold farm in the game and they want people to play their pet content, so the logical way to accomplish this is to remove rewards and incentives for running dungeons.
You didn’t honestly think there would never be a gear treadmill in this game, did you?
Buy orders aren’t the only thing I wish they’d “clean up” on the TP.
Is there really anything that constitutes rewarding coming from the Halaloween event this year? Just wondering if I should log on and do any of it since I’ve done all the basic Halloween achievements over and over again already.
Before long, I doubt anyone will be running dungeons, depending on the nature of the nerf.
I usually like world completions, but if getting around the new HoT maps at night is going to be more or less impossible due to the high volume of enemies and control effects, especially once the initial run on the maps is over and no one is out there any longer, then I can see it being a huge pain for legendary crafting in general.
At least the maps in the core Tyria areas can be completed even if you’re the only player on it.
I read a long time ago that the cap was put in place for AP hunters. They want new players to be able to catch up to people that played at launch, thus the various AP caps.
It’s just another example of Anet killing farms. They hate farms and they have systematically gotten rid of every one. Also, they want people playing fractals and raids, so that will the the rewarding content for the game.
Guess you didn’t play GW1 at all? They nerfed every farm in the game and killed the 55 monk to further prevent farming on large scale.
You got it. I never really played GW1. lol
More silk?
/15 chars

I don’t really agree with making all other content besides their pet ones unrewarding, but they do have a track record of killing farms and people more or less farm dungeons for money, so I figure the gold rewards for dungeons will be completely eliminated or drastically reduced.
I’m sure meters will be allowed once raids are live.
Full release of all content associated with HoT will not release on the 23. It will be months or longer until all content we’ve been told about will be released.
But why is it happening?
I’ve actually gotten infracted before for typing “kitten,” but it’s usually cleared up.
This has happened to me, too! But then, I am easily the most infracted poster on this forum.
Keys are given in bulk, therefore chests are farmed in bulk.
Anet created this “problem” with their reward system. I’d take this up with them.
This has already been covered and, no, there are no rewards.
Guessing the drop rate is somewhere in the vicinity of 3 keys per year of playing.
