Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Just another buff to make Elixir X better, not really awesome for ele (in ele’s current state…).
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Give players 3000 stat points (the total number on most amulets) to spend as we see fit. And add a soft-cap if needed (like 1200 or 1500 max spent on any one stat). Or bring in PvE gear to PvP. Either way will give us more diversity and I’ll bet balance won’t really be worse.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
WE DID IT!
“Before I forget, you can also now queue for structured PvP without having to be in the Heart of the Mists – hallelujah!”
While I am giving a big thumbs up that this even took place at all, you have to be realistic about the amount of time it took to get this into place since the majority of people asked for it, which is concerning regardless of how you look at it. But ill end it on a positive note for once, good job.
Countless
Yeah, only about a year and 8 months for them to give us back what they took from us. Wow so innovative, an unprecedented achievement in programming.
Now we just need the actual PvP to be fun again.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Amulets are holding sPvP back.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
I’m in favor of Pride Capes if Guild Wars capes will also be developed.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Long queues>Less players decide to queue>queues become longer>more players stop queuing> and so on.
Congratulations ArenaNet, great that you force everyone to queue from Heart of the Mist, and great that you created the PvP Leagues (they have clearly been a massive success). And thank you for endlessly kittening up the game after it was pretty kitten decent.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Since December 2, 2014.
Also the same patch that removed solo arena/team arena and made unranked/ranked, and removed the mmr based leaderboard. What a wonderful day.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
The major flaw of this league thing is still that: no matter how much you lose/get worse, you won’t go down in matchmaking value. You can’t lose your division rank.
Back when we had a working system in this game (leaderboard equal to mmr rank), players go up and down based on performance and their rank and mmr are change accordingly.
This season I’m at sapphire but half the games I just run some bullkitten because I don’t care and I’m not one of the 100 people who still watches this games “esport”. And you’ll notice that many people will have the same carefree attitude after crossing into a new division, because they’ve reached the ‘safe zone’. Especially when hitting legendary and there is even less carrot than ever.
Anyway, matchmaking isn’t the main issue. It is how absolutely kittened the balance and powercreep has become. Matches since HoT are imo more than ever being decided by what specs load into the game and on which team rather than how you play it. Elite specs vs Elite specs. Players vs Passives. Players vs Procs.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
And what of the non elite spec builds? Lol
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
“Leagues and divisions will fix everything guys.” – Idiot posts of 2014-2015.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Hey so when does rev come out of beta?
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
The character and pacing of the game has completely changed in the past couple years (and very very much in the past year, June patch and HoT).
Damage, sustain, effects-per-action (be it boons, condis, dmg, procs, etc), have all gone so far out of control. For a game without vertical progression, gear grind (aside from the little hiccup of ascended gear), or level increase, this shouldn’t be happening.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Here guys have some more esports!!
I mean yea I think it is still bugged 2 weeks later.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
The brightest minds of ArenaNet have spent the past year+ laboring tirelessly to bring you…Queue vs Queue vs Queue! Such innovative problem solving by copy pasting servers together.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
The HoT elite specs still have not been brought in line with the rest of the game. And the trait/condi stacking patch of last summer is still not settled in my opinion.
Between these two updates we have seen tremendous powercreep in Guild Wars 2 that has transformed the pacing and feel of the game for the worse. Another problem from the Summer 2015 patch was that stats have been forced even more into amulets, causing amulets to dictate too much of the pvp game.
We see classes like ele, guard, etc., being entirely excluded from using so many amulets because of their low base stats. The removal of cele in particular was bad for ele, as now the only meta ele build is cleric because it has enough toughness/healing power and condi removal to maintain such low hp. I do not want cele back, I just want the amulet system gone/changed significantly. And then there is the passives/procs issue which is half of the game right now. Oh yeah and bring back freedom to queue anywhere for matches, kitten .
Sorry for the ranting structure.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Hello, I’ve been leveling an alt and have reached the lvl 40 Priory quest “The Stone Sheath”. Upon finding the Dwarven Scabbard under water and pressing F to interact with it (and further the quest), the game crashes immediately. I first began this quest on Tuesday, March 22 (after patch), and have tried several times on 32bit and 64bit client and crash each time. I have not noticed any other issues with the game and I typically run with very good ping and fps.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Sure I should say it was fine years ago, and there is no reason to keep breaking it and remaking it as the main focus of their pvp development.
In particular with team/solo ladder in 2014, I remember matchmaking being nearly perfect. Matches and distribution of players on each team almost always seemed to correspond to leaderboard (mmr) position.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
1. Balance HoT specs to be in line with the core game specs. Meta PvP now is almost exclusively elite specs vs elite specs, this is not acceptable balance for the Guild Wars franchise. Get this kitten together.
2. Remove amulets/fix statting. You don’t seem to know wtf to do with stats in pvp, always removing/adding new ones and we always end up with a couple being abused and the rest never used. Time for a new system?
3. Allow PvP queuing outside of Heart of the Mists.
4. Matchmaking is ok, stop listening to the whiners. Matchmaking has been FINE for years, the only issue is broken balance and abuse/stacking of badly balanced professions (this is part of the BALANCE issue not MATCHMAKING).
5. Add some more maps/modes for kittens sake.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Let me take this opportunity to again say: let us queue outside of HotM like before!
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Megaserver is unrelated. Megaserver was added in April 2014. Forced to queue in Heart of the Mists was added in December 2014 (some 8 months later).
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Can’t support this enough. But extend it again to total freedom of hotjoins, PvE, WvW, and so on…There is no good reason not to, despite how many excuses they try to make.
And yea to support your other point, it is hard to stream this when most of it is you standing/jumping around in the lobby. Opening up the game again will give streamers more capabilities to entertain, and this likely leads to more viewers…more viewers = esports? (Working to the same goal anet is trying or pretending to try to have here).
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
How to work as a Gw2 PvP developer:
-Remove features
-Remove maps
-Revamp systems over and over, each one worse than the last
-Talk about how you are now taking balance more seriously than before
-Add more effects-per-action with every patch (aka power creep upon power creep)
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Hey new balance patch? Guess what the game is still in the dumpster.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Guild Wars is one of the only mmorpg where the balance devs do not need to manage a power increase (a changing scale) at every release due to gear level or player level increase. Here, the player level (80) and gear level (exotic/ascended) has stayed the same for 3 years now (the scale stays the same). Knowing this, we should have far better balance than we currently have (and have experienced for years). Since we do not, it shows clearly how incompetent the balance devs are.
Back on topic, I do not think the PvE/PvP split is good. It further separates the PvE game from the PvP game and may make player crossover less likely. I played through the PvE/PvP split in Gw1 and I do not think it improved the game at all. PvP did not feel any better (as I recall the first years of the game were closer to ‘e-sports’ than the years after this split), and PvE ended up running away with power creep. Initially, Guild Wars 1 PvE (in my opinion) was balanced around PvP. This is what I think should be sought after. Isn’t PvE more challenging when mobs behave like players (better AI)? And it better prepares players for the crossover into PvP, and vice-versa.
At the moment though, I am not convinced that any attempts have been made to balance the game in either mode for quite some time.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Balance and fun makes an e-sport, not how many times you throw around the buzzword ‘e-sport’ and promote the hell out of it in and out of game. Right now we don’t have balance or fun.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
If you didn’t see this system failing months ago, you’re really delusional and/or gullible.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Should be optional to display (like a title, but separate). Same thing for masteries, wvw rank, etc.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
HoT was the balance patch guys! That is why the only (well, almost only) competitive specs now are the elite specs released in HoT! Balance achieved.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Need to uproot the system and change how stats are determined. Whether it be the 3 item suggestion, the point allocation system (3000 points to use as you see fit), or something else. You might be right though, ArenaNet is determined to once again hold the game back for viewership purposes or some other unfortunate mindset. The viewers must really love it when they only see 2-3 amulets ever.
Also in the spirit of viewership, viewers must love watching top players stream pvp as they jump up and down objects while stuck in heart of the mist for half of their broadcast. Thanks again ArenaNet.

Megaservers (or alliances/factions) done right has been the solution ever since megaserver was introduced to PvE. They just need to be careful to do this correctly so that people still feel they are part of their WvW community and are contributing to the war.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
My theory is that most people don’t really enjoy playing the new maps, but they need to do so in order to level the masteries and experience any sense of progression in the game they just paid $50 for.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Can they at least be made to drop loot? Or put more diverse mobs in these zones instead of just kittenting out pocket raptors in every corner you’re not sure about, ArenaNet.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Heart of Thorns is the lowest point in Guild Wars.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
The only MMR that matters anymore is which level of broken build you’re playing. Sorry I mean which new and exciting spec you’re enjoying.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Nah we’re really going to be e-sports this time though. Just look at how much money we’re throwing at it!
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
HoT will launch “when it is ready”.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Just when you think it can’t go further downhill, it does. As for the actual content of your post, I have no idea what you’re going on about.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
So true. How long til Gw2 esport fanboys come to post about all the great stuff in the past year.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Or maybe it is power creep.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
ArenaNet, will you bring back Solo Arena?
Will you bring back dishonor?
Will you bring back queuing out of heart of the mists?
Will you ever develop another map for conquest?
Will you continue to throw money at ESL while taking away features from the game?
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Soon everyone will have stealth, traps, teleport, etc. I think we are transforming into minesweeper or battleship.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
I could’ve sworn I saw a blog post a while back stating a change in their philosophy and that there would be more skins to be unlocked by playing the game. So either this hasn’t taken effect yet, or they meant, you can unlock those 2 skins in game after paying $50.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
On the plus side, you should have faster queues and/or more accurate matchmaking since everyone is in one queue.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
They’re just gonna keep adding kitten to the overloads until people like tempest. The tooltip already takes up half my kitten screen, keep it up!
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Guild Hall Arenas!! Coming soon to the gem store!
I assumed they would be unlocked at release too. As these were one of the few features I am looking forward to. Also PvP leagues/leaderboard, what are the odds that will be up and running on day 1?
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
Courtyard actually needs to be best 2/3 rounds.
A round does not end until a full team wipes.
When a team wipes, the match resets and goes to the next round.I like the idea. But it would change the game completly.
because you kill one means you won more or less the round.
I don’t think this will ever work, because it does not involve a score value of 500.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
^Removed when they decided to force idle queuing, remove leaderboards, remove solo queue, remove rosters. Let us hope PvP will ‘work’ again in a couple weeks when HoT launches.
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
I seem to be stuck in the Heart of the Mists and cannot leave it without dropping queue! Help! kappa
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
I’ve (in)famously used ice bow and some of the other conjures for a long time with decent success (placed top soloq leaderboard a number of times, and near top in team queue). I really don’t see myself using ice bow anymore though for PvP with this huge damage nerf.
