PvP wise you should only worry about AMAZING necros/engies or condi ranger if you are not aware on how to use condi cleanses appropriately/deal with their kiting. DPS guard is often called skilless due to how powerful a good one can be in 1v1’ing nearly everything.

P/s rabid with Balthazar runes, geomancy/doom sigils with a spread of 6/2/0/4/2 is what I’ve been running with great success. I generally run toolkit/nades but will bomb/nades if I don’t need the extra defense of toolkit.

It’s sad, I agree. 15 silver for about 15 minutes time is hardly anything. I can go run a dungeon or kill some random mobs in cursed shore and get a t6 mat to sell for 40s within 5 minutes even without a high magic find. Maybe it’s time to add a reward track based around gold or items that sell decently by sacrificing the level up tomes or something of that nature. I for one would be in favor of that seeing as I have two gifts of fortune sitting in my bank from PvP tournaments but nowhere near the gold I need to buy a precursor because I don’t PvE as I find it nowhere near as enjoyable as PvP.

Signet of Restoration is absolutely useless in team fights, it has 0 burst healing. Forcing the Elementalist to run 3 Cantips to survive in team fights.

As for 3 Cantips, just overkill, to much defense for a 1v1 situation but you have to take that extra defense for team fights. Making for a build not ideal for team fighting nor 1v1’s, leaving for a very lop sided build.

Perfect for YoloQ where anything can happen. Stupid for organized teams.

Plus a good Elementalist, you’ll NEVER see that auto attack.

So I guess warrior signet is useless in your opinion as well since its not a “burst” heal? Three cantrips is great for 1v1 and teamfight despite what you think – you are able to 1v1 nearly any class because of it and be useful in teamfights. I’m thinking this thread is troll now…

Why you ask? Because it’s effective, it fits team comps well, and performs effectively. You just sound salty for no real reason.

^These were the rules on the signup site. HOWEVER, once we got in the server and ready to go, more limitations were placed on us including the no more than 2 points relocated, amulet changes, and all that other crap. So basically, it was pick a build and deal with it no matter what you fight. Very unfair considering the rules at signup mentioned none of those limitations we were told on game day. The build is 4/6/0/0/4 with the dark path GM trait and nightmare runes. Yeah it’s strong in 1v1, and hard to beat as a condi warr, But that doesn’t make it OP.

Not sure what the issue is here. Guardian played with a bad build vs a warrior, didn’t mitigate damage and ate a ton of damage, and failed to land substantial damage on his opponent since. Not that impressive nor a point and case example of “nerf xxx or buff xxx.” Sorry…

Staff is very viable in tpvp given the right spec and team setup. I’ve run it many times instead of d/d and s/f depending on what team we are facing and what my team is lacking.

Celestial rifle engi (triple kit I believe)

If those two classes are what you play best, I’d say focus on some power necro to carry. If people let your lich spam 1 for too long you will easily wipe an entire team. That’s probably your better choice over trying to carry with condi.

I find LB power ranger one of our best options right now, especially with the buffs inc. I also play a bunker condi build with pretty strong 1v1 capability.

I hate spirits so it will mostly be power ranger, I’ll try some trap ranger out, and beastmaster condi ranger has been fun from what I had tried.

I don’t get the point of this thread. A casual ele got 50%. Ok. So what? That means matchmaking is working as intended? Ele takes effort to be above 50%? Not sure what you want here. As said above me, many players can play ele at a high level well above 50% so major buffs are not necessary. Too many unknown factors to know whether or not your 50% actually means anything about the ele class or your play/skill.

Hey everyone,
So I posted a thread almost 2 wks ago in the pvp forum asking for people to pick my class for me to stream when I return here in a couple days. It will be hotjoin/soloQ/teamQ only, so racial skills won’t matter here. Overwhelmingly (not surprised though) ranger dominated the vote. So here I am looking at my options for which class looks the best – that is my only requirement. Being a guardian/ele main I know nothing of medium armor skins and race combinations to go with or avoid. Looking for some insight or screenshots to sway me. I’ll be taking this ranger to the top of the pvp boards (former rank 3 team, rank 8 solo) so it has to be snazzy and eye catching haha. My one stipulation is it CAN’T BE ASURA! If I want to play in the weeklies with it, asura is banned from that setting. Show me what you’ve got!

Mostly bunker yea, some run dps guard (rare though, more prevalent in soloQ).

“Fast and easy money”…….what?? They can go to pve-land and kill like 5-10 mobs in like 5 minutes and get far more than 10s.

More likely reason is they were ticked off by a teammate and say screw it AFK just to get payback. Moral of the story: stop making threads like this, be nice to teammates (even if they do suck b/c you saying raging at them will make it a 5v4), and just play the game. SoloQ doesn’t really get you anywhere in the grand scheme of things, if you get a bad team w/e, it happens to everyone at one point or another.

I would play to get better, just I cannot “play”. I am vastly outskilled and die so quickly I cannot grasp how to avoid all that storm of kitten. The one thing I have learnt so far is escaping, and even that is futile 80% of times, except on a staff-elementalist, whose inversed rollback I am fairly proud of.

Btw, they might all be little nuisances, things like UI and filters, but everything adds up…

Apologies, should have said Server not Lobby. When you pull up the pvp menu, you can see all the servers and players in each. Pick one at a good number and see if you are getting annihilated or handling your own. If getting destroyed, open menu and pick a different server. The “Play Now” option will generally be disappointing from what I’ve heard (I’ve never used it).

Learning to dodge is a key concept to survival, if you are getting destroyed, dodging is a good skill to practice for now. While it isn’t fun for you right now being killed repeatedly, it is essential to learning what to dodge to stay alive and how to do it properly. Once you get survival down more, you can focus more on pressuring your opponent. Even learning to disengage like you mention is a useful tactic. Honestly, I got to the level I can play at today due to my losses more than my wins. Mindless stomping doesn’t build your fighting skills, losing makes you reflect on what you can do better the next time. Fighting people above your skill level pressures you to perform better, simple as that (whether it’s staying alive for more than 10 seconds or getting them downed).

Back at launch I was just as frustrated as you since I didn’t have the hours every day to get better and I was once one of the many who were farmed while I learned to play. That’s just how this combat system is since it is extremely fluid and fairly complex to pick up. It will take time but it will get better.

Where to start…

Yes rank/gear means nothing. A fair matchmaking system for hotjoin? If you feel outclassed in your lobby, then swap. Hotjoin is simply for jumping in and out of a game as you please.

You getting the smaller team may again be a lobby issue with few players. Or players spectating but that is a known annoyance but honestly, just play to get better. Its hotjoin – it ultimately doesn’t matter if you are on the losing team as along as you are practicing your play.

As for filters, I’ve never even used them. Just pull up all of them, pick a lobby with like 8 players and join a team. Maps rotate unless its a private server so choosing a favourite won’t matter in the end if its a generic server.

Nameplates and UI is more of a QoL issue that I’m pretty sure people have asked for. While reasonable as a request, if you just play more often you get used to the placement of them now. Gotta tough it out until they add those features (if they decide to). It being at the top really isn’t that out of the way IMO as the action is happening right below where you are looking at the frames.

Post death details do exist, before you click waypoint click on the symbol to pull up your damage breakdown.

Wouldn’t each team be trying to retake those bunkered nodes to win the game, though? How is it different than now?

Because longevity in a fight is rewarded more than a glass spec that can be killed and lose out on points. People will see that and go “hey I want more points, gonna go bunker to do so.”
