While the build may be frustrating to fight, it could have been played better. As said above there were missed steals, but also dodging while in stealth for no reason only to eat damage later on due to low endurance, slow reactions (eating blurred frenzy while spamming attacks into it), and getting knocked out of SR with full endurance near the end (would have been a great time to throw a dodge in there to prevent the GS 5). That’s what I noticed in the once over of the video.
Overall one video of a lost duel =/= OP or anything. Just means something to practice fighting.
Try d/p out for better sustain and the damage is still there

If you don’t want to run d/p, theorycraft and practice new/unique builds thoroughly before you write them off. This really isn’t that bad of a patch. It’s fine to ask for some changes concerning skills/abilities/etc, but to just throw your arms up in the air and scream (like the OP did) is just foolish.

It’s hard to take advise from someone new to the class.
So, if I play for a month or so longer, everyone will then listen to me when I say the exact same thing I’m saying now? That’s laughable because I’m not new to this game, I’m very experienced when it comes to PvP. I don’t need to play a class for a year to go “Hey guys, relax, thief is still 100% viable. Simmer down a little maybe with the thief is dead QQ?” I’ve played against this class forever, had to understand its mechanics and builds to be able to play against it at a high level, but now that I’m actually playing it (and doing quite well with it vs. good players) nobody wants to listen at all when I’m telling them thief is not trash tier? Of course it has it’s small flaws like other classes, but the thief is dead QQ is ridiculous.

Not sure what lies you could be seeing but ok? All I can think of is you interpreted my post as I’ve never played thief before in my life until this patch in which case I apologize for the confusion. But considering I’ve been gone for over a month and just started up again with thief as my main, I’m not struggling in any PvP matches after the first couple of days learning the patch and knocking the rust off. This leads me to believe the forum complaints are being blown WAY out of proportion and thieves remain a valuable asset to any PvP team.
Yet the fact that all thieves play the exact same build already goes to show how terrible this patch is.
The goal and purpose of this patch was to create build diversity. So what’s the result: D/D, S/D, P/P and S/P are all still not competitive. They have entirely missed the intention. Previously you’d have S/D as an at least somewhat viable option, now it’s literally just D/P with DA/SA/TR (ok some people play CS>SA, awesome diversity!)So even though you can still kick kitten in hotjoins because those people are oblivious, once you get against a somewhat decent player, you’re done for.
You said you’re new, so your experiences are skewed due to a lack of material to compare it with. Most people here have been playing thief for a significant time though and therefor know what’s wrong. I’m not saying this to be an kitten but really… Pretty much everything in this patch involves a Nerf for Thieves in one way or another.
Where to even start…if the overall purpose of this patch was to bring new builds in for all classes (because why would they only want thief to have that ability?), where are the axe/axe warriors, shield guardians, and every other lesser run combination for any class out there? I don’t see those combinations very much if at all. This game has never and will never be balanced so that every weapon set is comparable to each of the others for any class because of the perspectives of players.
Again, my experience with the current patch is NOT from hotjoins but rather from playing with and against some of the top players from NA. I’ve played PvP competitively over multiple patches/metas so I draw from that experience to see/understand the changes to thief. Yes, they took a hit in some aspects (a small one IMO), but they are still 100% viable in this meta. Sure d/p is the go-to setup currently, but if you want to make s/d work, you still can but the effort involved versus the payoff is not as favorable as the d/p setup. So because d/p is easier to have a larger impact on, people flock to it and it gets the reputation as the go-to choice for thieves in PvP.

Well I should clarify I haven’t played a single hot join, my perspective is from playing with and against top players and doing great. It’s not how it used to be, but it’s far from being trash tier and worthy of all this forum QQ. There are a few minor tweaks that could improve quality of life, but even still it’s completely viable and effective as is.

I wish anet would at least give us an official response. Even if it was a simple “We’re aware of the issue and are working to fix this”. As it stands I’m just sitting here twiddling my thumbs because the game is unplayable.
Try DOTA 2. I’m playing that with <10 ms ping but I keep checking GW2 periodically, but alas, still having ping issues there.
Having unusual lag as well today, east coast US with Verizon FiOS. First occurrence of any issue with my FiOS so not sure if they are to blame or something going on Anet side.
Well from guessing you’re probably a sensitive person.
How about you tell us how many people you have blocked, and then we’ll give you a list of the players who play this game every day, and then we’ll explain why that idea doesn’t work.Perhaps you could try being less sensitive, maybe quit instigating fights, or putting yourself in a situation that requires you to block people.
It’s pretty easy to not even respond to most of the people in this game, so perhaps start making the right decisions.
I take it you get blocked a lot and are worried that you’d have no one to play with if they implemented the OPs idea.
You fail to realize that if this was implemented nobody would have people to play with. Player better than you? Block him. Your team losing to another team? Block them. Somebody called you a name? Block them. Somebody raging in chat? Block them

This will tick them off more than anything and you get a free laugh at their expense. Just move on after that, or keep sending a single smiley face reply if the whispers continue. I literally have nobody on my block list but gold sellers because it’s more fun to laugh at the ragers rather than be a delicate little butterfly and let their words hurt me.

I’ve dusted off my guardian for fear of ele being useless yet again. It may seem like nothing, but in reality these changes will greatly affect elementalist play and if unchanged, there will be a drastic decrease in representation (unless tempest or sword is awesome sauce OP).
If you think this is bad, don’t ever play DOTA or LoL… This is nowhere close to those in toxicity.
Where are the super pros now saying turret engi lowbobs are just present in low to mid tier rankings? Even a rank 80 warrior stood no chance against an engi with turret syndrom.

We’re trying to increase the competitive scene by encouraging people to play competitive Guild Wars 2 in the Go4Cups and the Academy Gaming weeklies.
I’m aware of that. But problem is that newcomers will always play against best teams in those tournaments in the first round. They will always get rekt and they will have no motivation to keep trying.
Randomising would motivate new teams a lot more. Just like in GW1
But a random seeding isn’t fair to dedicated pvp players as they may be on the #2 team who is randomly matched against the #1 team so they get no reward for their hard work and time dedicated to pvp if they lose to the #1 team round 1. The teams that are here for the llamas and such only should be the ones running the risk of matching versus the well established teams first round. This isn’t a free prizes for casuals tournament, its prove yourself as a PvP player/team tournament.
The way the ranking system currently is sounds much more fair than complete randomization.

Get stomped by players better than you —> add them to blocked list so you don’t have to play with them anymore —> everyone blocks everyone eventually, no more pvp

The thing about the Automated Decap Engineers is that they didn’t do damage and could never kill you too fast. It was annoying for Pure Condition classes, but otherwise they never shined in high levels of play against people with a brain.
With Turret Engineers you have AI that do more damage the the player itself, which should never be the case. So I would say Turret Engineers are more annoying.
Both are terrible mechanics though.

Wasn’t Decap Engineer run in an important tournament at one point? I did not play much when it initially dropped, but I seem to remember people complaining about the lowest low in GW2 “Esports” history (Lyssa Hambow, Dhuumfire Necro, Spirit Ranger and Decap Engineer being about)
I think the one team that I remember who ran a Decap Enginner was Vision Valor Victory [vVv], and that player was Lady Steamhawke, an old veteran back in his prime.
Can confirm, it was vVv who ran it. Playing against it them was always tricky but your team could manage it with proper rotations and the right 1v1 against it.
Three easy steps to winning:
1) Make a staff ele
2) Play it well
3) Profit
Congrats, you can now tell your team to let you fight he turret engi (and win) as well as carry your team when you get to team fight.
Most burst ele builds go 2 or 4 in water tops as what’s the point since you’re so glassy. Secondly arcana is generally 4 and rarely 6 because EA investment means you’re dodging into meele range which kills your kiting.
Sorry but after reading your complaints about “mandatory” point investment, I’m skeptical of your posts accuracy. When I run burst ele it can be ugly at times but that’s like any zerker builds. Adapt your build based on their team comp.
If you enjoy zerker ele keep playing and just realize sure you got one shot because your guard was down, but when he lets his guard down you get to repay the favor. This is just how zerker builds are. Volatile.

ISP issues =/= Anets problem to fix. Sorry, but often times it’s not on Anets end and when it is you see 100+ dc/lag posts. The system works so much better than it was now, you click ready and if all 10 hit yes, it’s going to start. It’s up to your Internet and computer to do the rest.
Yeah could be my ISP, but this problem is strictly isolated in gw2 pvp maps. All other aspects of game is fine. And all other games(dota2, archeage, tera) are running fine on my pc and internet. So excuse me for venting my frustrations.
While system is better now than before(and I’m grateful for that), How bout (this is just a suggestion) they cancel a match if less than 10players are loaded into the map after the “match start” countdown? Ofcourse any dcs during the game is not anet’s responsibility anymore. Just to reduce all this frustration. Coz map loading dcs do happen. Imagine the 28 people screwed today coz of my inability to load the map. My apologies to them.
I know you’re venting, it’s fine. I’m just saying it seems you are the only one specifically with this issue so odds are it’s your end in some manner. If it was Anets end we would be seeing tons of comments with this issue. Sure your other games may work but that just means they use different ports, game files, etc which are working as intended. You’d be better off contacting support for help rather than forums. Vent there, not on here.

Would a D/D build be an easier beginner build?
Would I be tougher? Harder to kill? So far, the hardest thing I am finding is that I am so so soft. Ridiculously soft. A npc hits me for 1/5th of my health just running by.I leveled crafting just so I could craft ascended celestial gear. And you don’t use it.
I want to take camps solo. When you solo, do you do that?
With the build I linked that I run, yes, you are very squishy as the majority of it is zerker gear. If you want, you can sub in pieces of soldiers to tank up a bit while you get a feel for the playstyle then sub back to zerker once you’re confident with it. I’m able to solo all camps and take outnumbered fights with great success. Keep in mind, I’ve played ele quite a bit and play ele spvp at a high level so I’ve gotten the muscle memory down for my skills and know all weapon sets quite well. It will take practice but you can get there!
D/D imo would be easier to play and that could use the ascended cele gear you crafted. One thing though is that build will also not have as much burst potential and require some extra time to down a target – time in which help can arrive for the enemy, so that’s one risk you take with a higher sustain build.
Focus is great for defensive capabilities, Condi clear, immunity, as well as air 5 to land your one shot burst. I personally roam as s/f solo and in small groups with great success. Dagger is pretty much all offense with little to no defense so it’s risky to take over the focus. pkus come on, it’s hilarious to earth 4 and watch a LB ranger kill himself. Here’s my build, I throw in the cele/soldiers gear just for some extra hp.

I run this build for WvW whether I’m solo or in a group of 2-5 people. It works really well with proper support from teammates when needed and the burst potential is amazing as is survivability once you get the hang of the weapon set. Enjoy!
Edit: If you don’t have guard stacks for extra HP and feel a bit squishy just sub in soldiers gear as needed until you feel you have a good amount, but you will lose damage of course.

Also it’s unranked, while frustrating it ultimately makes you better as a player if you still try and don’t afk in base. You learn more from your losses than stomping 500-0 (surviving, map awareness, etc).
Only if there’s a mute function like in DOTA to silence the idiots and crybabies yelling nonsense in my ear

This current leaderboard makes no sense. Those who have 10 hrs to spam Q per day will claim the top spots despite their lackluster skill. Quality > quantity.
You can’t handle one 7k hit? Don’t run zerker since you dont understand how to counter a thief (or survive long it sounds). Not as if he’s attacking you for 7k every second or anything OP like that. Once you tank up and learn how to counter them, go zerker again.

The big reason is for the shorter queue time. And as Physicks said, playing fun builds, weird comps, or different classes.
1) following is on you to turn your mouse and keeps them in front of you so you can hit them with your attacks.
2) you are being hit by skills that stun/knockback so the only counter is to dodge, blind the enemy, use aegis, or run stability. Your abilities go on reduced CD to show the stun duration or full CD of they were cast before the interrupt landed on you.
3) have auto attack on, hit 1, if player is still in meele range the auto attack chain will continue on – no need to mash in this aspect. Continuing to press 1 is good sometimes to cleave people who come into meele when your targeted player is far say as those hits will keep the chain going
4) learn the class icons on the enemy skill bar, learn attack animations specific to classes, also learn to take targets called by teammates (forget the default button for this T I think?)
5) unranked/ranked are generally looked at as a place where people who know their class/role go to compete. Newer players would benefit from custom servers to learn their abilities and everything before stepping into unranked/ranked Q’s as their is often little communication as it is expected you know how to rotate and perform decently

I’m looking for a solid team that isn’t going to kitten out over a loss when/if it happens, give up mid match for stupid reasons, and actually listen in TS and call stuff/rotate well. Oh, and to actually practice as a team would be a nice change from the current trend. I want a competitive team that will play in the weeklies (Mistpedia and/or ESL) and be together for the long haul. In the past, I’ve been a part of Disney Channel, #Believe, and many super pug groups in multiple tournaments/weeklies with great success. So if you are looking for a competitive ele or guardian, let me know. I can also pick up another class if you need something other than ele/guard, I’m mainly looking for a team so I have a reason to keep putting time into this game. I’m EST, and can play 6-11pm weeknights, weekends are fairly flexible.

Yeah, I didn’t want to throw rank into the mix, but I guess I’m speaking from the top/higher end of the spectrum, and I only know of myself and one other tbh. This is from NA perspective if that matters. If it were truly OP, it’d be on ALL the top teams, kind of like how ele is.

If pvp videos are something you and others might like I could make some from time to time. I’ll just need some ideas for content that you’d like. How is it that EU total higher viewership on twitch than NA when they have fewer teams?
Leaderboard top ranking page consists of 25 players, not even 25 people from EU made it.

Did all 8 play? Was it only 3 in EU and 5 in NA like I heard? For a tournament this large, you’d expect all 8 teams to be present.
I don’t think anyone except maybe you would say this tournament occurred according to plan.
Teams didn’t play b/c there was zero incentive to if they had people on their roster unable to go China if they were to win it all.
Like above, you won’t beat one 1v1 unless they are awful.
What’s worse is that if you are so fortunate to down them, there are TWO bodies you have to stomp!!! So OP OMG!!!
PvP wise you should only worry about AMAZING necros/engies or condi ranger if you are not aware on how to use condi cleanses appropriately/deal with their kiting. DPS guard is often called skilless due to how powerful a good one can be in 1v1’ing nearly everything.
