Mystic Coins crisis

PvE/ WvW build?

Chuck Nizzle.6283

Looking for a build that I can use to stomp in WvW. Roaming or in zergs.
I also need it to work well in dungeons, with some minor adjustments, but with pretty much the same gear.

Essentially, I want to focus on conditions but still have a little bit of power. I also want it to have scepter/staff/dagger or scepter/staff/warhorn or scepter/staff/focus. A good amount of toughness is preferred, along with vitality.

Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWjc0Q1N2ZDe3A/NOCGqZUvD5QMpDgIgWFTxvC-ThyCABAcEAU4BA4syljPBAdq+Dy6DwSJlQ7PM9hAYMlgBAOA2tu1d3ALv8yLv8yt7u7u7u7WIAFrBA-e

Criticism is appreciated.

I don’t plan on using a lot of food, except for really cheap stuff.

Idea: Daily node guild

Chuck Nizzle.6283

Anyone thought of this?

It would be sweet if someone could add the basic ore, lumber, and maybe harvesting nodes, along with the sprocket, candy corn, and quartz nodes. Then, we could have people come in and harvest them everyday at a certain time.

I would be willing to do this, since I have the sprocket, candy corn, and quartz ones, buuuuut I don’t feel like dumping 2400 gems on some nodes…

Also: would this work for the enchanted chest as well?

How much gold do you make?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chuck Nizzle.6283

Doesn’t rly matter what dungeons you run, aside from a few (SE p2, TA aether) they’re all pretty quick. Aside from the obvious gold reward at the end of the dungeon, I sell all t6 mats, salvage inscriptions from dungeon gear and have some nice dungeon recipes (plague, bloodstone fragment).

While I sincerely doubt it makes much of a difference, I have magic find over 200.

So how many dungeons do you actually do in that 3 hours, on average? Because dat aether path….wooooooooooooowee. That takes me FOREVER.

How much gold do you make?

Chuck Nizzle.6283

Everyday, I hear people saying, “I make so-and-so amount of gold a day, and it’s easy!” People say they make 50g a day, and simply put, I don’t know how they do it. I play the TP, do a few dungeons, participate in some WvW, and I usually end up with around 10-15g.

So my question is, how much gold do you make in a day, and how do you make it?

Ever since this trait has come out, I’ve only faced an ele once with this trait in PvP, and never in WvW. I can see how it would be a little OP if you’re full conditionmancer (like me), but knocking off 10% health isn’t that much. If I were you, I would just hit #4 on staff, then DS #1 and call it a day. then, you should be able to shut ’em down with conditions.

scepter+what? what+what?

in Necromancer

Chuck Nizzle.6283

I have to agree with Ynot. The scepter/dagger staff is mainly what I use, and it works well against most builds. I usually go 30/20/0/0/20 with parasitic contagion/terror, etc. I use dire and rabid armor. It works super well in terms of condition damage and condition manipulation, but it could use a little more control. That’s why some people choose the warhorn over the dagger.

But in the end, it’s up to you. I prefer the dagger, but that’s just me.

Yea, I know exactly what you’re talking about. And I know what it comes from.

When a player finishes completing a guild rush, the sound of fireworks goes off. And sometimes, you can hear it across the entire map. It can be rather aggravating, although at least for me, it’s never been that loud.

This definitely needs to be fixed. I’m not entirely sure if only guild rush is causing it, but from what I’ve heard on this thread, it seems to be a constant “booming”. If that’s true, then this definitely needs to be fixed.

The only benefit to hearing this noise is that when you’re doing a guild rush, you know when one of your guildmates has finished. But besides that, the noise doesn’t really serve a purpose, except to say “YAY! You just finished that super hard rush!!!”

Item Prestige: Not being respected?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chuck Nizzle.6283

Chuck Nizzle.6283

Why is prestige important?
Personally I believe prestige items to be important because they are the main thing I work towards in any MMO. They are the main source of enjoyment for me, attempting to collect as many of them as possible under the conditions imposed by the game. They act as badges of honor cataloging your deeds and accomplishments in a visual manner.

Plus one to you, Conski Deshan. I agree with most of what you say. Items that say, “Hey, I was there for that one-time event” just aren’t that cool, or “prestigious” as you would say, if you bring them back a second time.

The main point that people seem to be countering this viewpoint with is, “Well, I wanted that item so I could get a certain look!!!” Well, sometimes, things don’t always go your way. Unfortunately, just like all MMO’s, it’s nearly impossible to get every item you want in this game. You may have to compromise on certain things from time to time. To me and many other players, it’s better to have those prestigious be just that: something that shows that you’re experienced, and that you’re a veteran.

Liadri and rage

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Chuck Nizzle.6283

Chuck Nizzle.6283

Liadri does not need to be nerfed. And just so you know, I wasted a ton of tickets on her last year, just trying to beat her. I never did.

The reason it shouldn’t be nerfed is because the players who have beaten her would feel cheated if she suddenly became easier. It would be easier to get the achievement/mini than before, which wouldn’t be fair for those who already defeated her.

Therefore, even if there are people (including me) who can never beat her, it’s fine. All we have to do is practice, adjust our builds, add some food, and perhaps change professions. I know it’s harder with some than others….

It is as simple as that. All you need to do is adjust your build, eat food, and practice. The only other option at this point would be to nerf liadri, and that should never happen.

“Everyone has this skin that I had first”… The kitten wars will never be the same again. Half glass full/empty? You did it then, newer people did it now.. I really dont see the big deal. You cant go to burlington coat factory in december, buy a coat, then go back in march to complain that you saw other people with that coat in march… Actually, you can do that… and you should, plus video it and post it online, then post the link here please.

Joking aside. Let the noobs have their day. You’ve had yours.

The big deal is that “I was there for that thing at that specific time”. It’s more like if a limited edition Chrysler 300 comes out and is only available in December, but then they bring back the exact same car a half a year later. The cool factor just dropped, because now more people later on can get it.

In the case of the slikpack, when people see it, the’re like “DUDE! You did that super hard dungeon, living world, etc??? That’s awesome!!!!” Now, since it came back, it’s more like “Oh, so you just accumulated a bunch of tokens from the flying dolyak race and bought it…ok….”.

So what I’m saying is, I’m not against everyone having the exact same skin, and I’m certainly not against having all the inexperienced players being able to get an item. But when an awesome item comes out twice when you that it was a one-time deal, you kind of feel let down.

As for my original statement, I still feel like I could have not done any of those previous living worlds, not received any of those items (slikpack/sclerite karka shell), and much more easily obtained them. That’s the main reason why I didn’t like them bringing the items back. I could have received them with less effort (and time, arguably).
———-
Anyway, that’s really the only thing I didn’t like about the festival of the four winds. Bringing back the old living worlds is fine, I enjoyed those, and I still do. Besides, they recently gave us an awesome patch, and that definitely took some work.

Which one is much cheaper (besides fractal one, but that one requires running fractals a lot)?

Actually, the fractal capacitor was the one I was talking about. But given that making the spinal blades was quite costly (Cost me over 100g), there are other options that would be cheaper, but not by a whole lot.

If you want examples…well, I really don’t feel like going into depth on the exact prices of materials and then calculating how much each backpack costs. But if you’re curious, you can always use wiki, and then look up prices on BLTC

The only thing I am disliking so far is that one merchant. You can buy a lot of the older backpacks, including the sclerite karka shell and the slikpack. I worked hard to get those, and someone shouldn’t be able to just grind some tokens and buy them. Granted, it IS 1600 tokens, but still….

At the end of the day, you’re the only one who feel bad about this. Everyone else are happy to get the last few skins they couldn’t get before because of personal restrictions, either it be final’s weeks, holidays in cuba, or a trip to the hospital for a broken arm. You’re not special because you logged in everyday for 600 days, you don’t deserve them more than someone who COULDN’T do anet’s temporary content. So, Anet, I thank you SO MUCH for bringing these skins back, i’ve been dying to get fervid censer and the zephirite helm THANKS!!

I agree completely. Even having earned each of these meta-rewards during the original events, I don’t see any reason why new or intermittent players should be deprived of the opportunity to obtain them. If you really feel the need to let everyone know you’ve been playing the game for a while, just pop your Emissary of the Mad King or Crabgrabber title.

Let me clarify a little….

What I’m really trying to say is, is it’s sad for those people who made sure to log in during that certain living world, and who sacrificed their time to get a particular skin only to have it come back later in a way that is arguably much more easily obtainable. That’s the main reason I dislike bringing these skins back.

It’s kinda like when people made two spinal blade packs. They sacrificed a lot of time and effort to make two, but after the wardrobe came out, it was kind of pointless. They could have made another much cheaper ascended backpack and then just applied the skin.

Festival Token Rewards

The new items you can get using Festival Tokens are not good. Why? Because now, you can buy old backpacks simply by grinding. For example, I remember doing that super annoying dungeon in TA just to get that slikpack. And now, you can buy it for 1600 tokens. YES, I realize that’s a lot of grinding, but that cool item that you could only get for a limited time suddenly isn’t that cool anymore. Now, anyone can just walk up and buy it.

As for the other items, I’ll have to wait and see…I’m glad they didn’t bring back the sun, lightning, and wind catcher skins….

Shortlist of Ele's worst skills

in Elementalist

Chuck Nizzle.6283

The only problem I have with ele so far (just started playing it a few weeks ago) are the weapon skills themselves. Sure, there are a LOT of weapon skills, but a lot of them just aren’t that great, as scerevisiae pointed out. Plus, although there is a variety of them, it’s hard to combine different skills together, IMO. Once you’ve picked your weapon(s), you’re stuck with 20 skills that you either like or hate. It’s not as good as other professions because there are plenty of different weapon combinations (not including engi…), instead of just, for example a “staff” that takes up all of your weapon skills, with no sort of weapon swap or room to change out skills.

The state of Necromancers in PvP

in Necromancer

Posted by: Chuck Nizzle.6283

Chuck Nizzle.6283

Here’s some feedback for ya, blackmoa:

Problems:

1.) Agreed. Necromancers have pretty bad mobility. But let us not forget that the few that we do have can aid us in other important ways; for instance, spectral walk is extremely useful, because it can allow you to flank or trick your opponent, or more importantly, allow you to take any amount of falling damage. This is something that has saved me numerous times.

2.) Bad downed state? Not really. This is much more a matter of opinion. Sure, it’s not as good as the guard’s knockback or the ele’s mist form, but it works, and that’s what’s important.

3.) No sustain? Not true. In terms of endurance regain, yes, but in terms of sustaining one’s health, no. Minion master does an excellent job of sustain through siphons. Besides mm though, I’ve used a fair number of dagger sustain builds and other power builds. They work in PvP, but are really more designed for PvE. As for condition builds with sustain, siphon builds are harder to use, so I generally just use consume conditions, death shroud, and plague form, and that’s often enough. However, I would like to see more options for sustain in the future.

4)Toxic gameplay? Well…not really. I suppose this is true if you are playing against someone with the same build type as you, but I think that’s true for almost every profession. Take the thief, for example: both players usually just try to out-burst and out-cloak each other, resulting in some gameplay that can be rather aggravating. As for how rewarding it is to kill other players, that is totally up to you. This isn’t true for everyone.

Suggestions

1.) Interesting idea, but I don’t find this necessary; flesh wurm is already pretty good as is.

2.) No, I don’t find this necessary either. Most other classes don’t have an invulnerability skill (ds is like invuln in a sense), so we don’t need this. I think it would actually upset balance more.

3.) Ok, yes, some access to vigor would be nice. But not too much….I like your idea, though.

4.) For this last one, I think I have to disagree. Fear stacking is fine. Plus, rune of the nightmare doesn’t fear you for 4 seconds, just saying…not only that, but it has a 90 second cooldown—90 SECONDS! That’s not op, if you ask me.

Hope this feedback helps : P

To me it sounds like the best way to kill a thief is to know that they are coming, know where they are coming from, preempt them in every omniscient way, and hope they fall into your traps…

As one of the few non-omniscient players, are there tips out there?

Also, since when is a class not imbalanced when everybody has to develop their characters to specifically counter these classes? If your pro-tip for not dying to this class mostly involves building your character around it, then that class is op. This isn’t a game with 2 classes. At any given point I might have to fight a different class. And being “good” means nothing when you are discussing balance. For all of the good non-thieves, there are plenty of good thieves that are more than capable of handling w/e you use to counter them. Skill should never be brought up in a balance discussion.

My “pro-tip” isn’t building a character around it. My builds are generally meant to handle any situation they encounter. What I mean is, some builds simply trump others. So my tip is, if you know your class/build or whatever struggles against a general build archetype, then edit your build a little bit to handle it, thief or not.

Also, skill IS a factor in balance discussion, because some people may argue that certain skills require more or less skill, and that may impact their opinion on a skill’s “OP-ness”. For example, if you’re a thief that just spams #2 heartseeker, one may argue that that skill is somehow overpowered or unfair just because it’s so easy to use, when it’s really not. And while I agree with you that skill should not be brought up in balance discussion, it is inevitable. I brought it up because it’s good to point out that some players may simply be raging about the countless times that they been owned by a few skills; just because an adept player effectively and strategically uses a skill does not make it OP. And that is why one of my tips is to simply have enough experience going into battle. If you know the player you’re taking on is way more experienced that you, why would you try to take them on?

As for your question, there are plenty of “non-omniscient” tips out there. If you have no knowledge of your opponent, don’t know where they are attacking you from, or don’t know how they will attack you (i.e. weapon skills), there is some advice I can offer you.

If you’re going on the defensive side, and a thief just stealthed, whether or not you know he’s coming, you should have certain skills set aside for taking him/her on. Simply put, use your profession’s skills to your advantage! If you’re a guardian, use aegis; if you’re a warrior, keep stability at hand. For me, I utilize spectral wall so if a melee thief tries to attack, they just get feared away. To sum it up, there’s almost always a counter, you just have to find it.

Also, timing is everything. If you know they just stealthed again after attacking you, use that opportunity to cleanse, heal, or whatever. Know when to attack and when to hold back. While the’re stealthed, I usually try to stick in one place and try to outsmart them. I make them think I’m either not paying attention or don’t know what’s going on, and then when they attack, I quickly get rid of blindness/break stun or whatever is necessary, dodge, and retaliate.

If you’re going on the offensive, I would try to interrupt them as much as possible. Chase them down with movement skills, and if they get away, make sure you keep your health up, as they probably just gained back all of theirs. If they pop shadow refuge, spam that area with AoE’s and what not. Find ways, like this one, to punish them for using stealth.

I hope this was helpful to you, and to all others reading this thread. I’m sure there are plenty of other tips people can offer you; these are just a few I like to keep in mind when attacking thieves.

Simply put, power is almost always better in a PvE situation. It does quicker, though sometimes less reliable damage.

For power, staff is great, and axe/warhorn as well as focus are good, too. If you’re looking for melee, the dagger works alright. But I’d recommend the staff no matter what.

If you’re looking for the best build for a good amount of damage and survivibility, go for minions (this covers skills as well). There are plenty of guides on this, so go wild!!! Personally, though, I’d go 10-0-30-30-0, or something like that.

Ok, yeah, I figured this is a troll post….

But seriously, I think condition damage is in a good position, except for the 25 stack cap.

My opinion about warriors in duels!

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Chuck Nizzle.6283

Chuck Nizzle.6283

OK, simply from looking at the title of this thread, you somehow believe that warriors are not viable in duels. This is completely untrue; there are plenty of viable build options for warriors to take on others. I have faced many warriors in my time of playing this game, some good, some bad, and others so-so. But no matter what your skill level, some builds will always be better than others for facing particular builds.

For example, a warrior who runs signet of fury/cleansing ire/signet of stamina already gets plenty of benefits in the realm of condition removal and boon support. When I try and take on this type of warrior (specifically, GS, #5 rush) with my necro, I have a hard time taking them over, even with boon strip and condition spamming. However, if I were to use an MM, I might have had a better chance of quickly overtaking them, instead of trying to catch up with my few movement skills.

So to recap: warriors don’t suck in duels, you just have to have a good amount of skill and the correct build to take others on. Remember that one build type doesn’t necessarily “own all”, though some are better than others; some builds simply beat out others, and that is important to remember when fighting a particularly difficult opponent.

Necromancer in fractals

in Necromancer

Posted by: Chuck Nizzle.6283

Chuck Nizzle.6283

The build I always use is conditionmancer. This is because there are already plenty of DPS/Support builds in fractals. Just grab a guardian and some warriors and there you go.

I utilize conditions simply because I think the’re what the necromancer is best at. If you use 0-30-20-0-20, for example, and use scepter/dagger/staff, you get a ton of condition manipulation, bleeding, and poison, along with a bit of weakness and chill. Each of these conditions are useful in various situations.

So: why go condimancer instead of power? Because to utilize most effectively scepter/dagger which gives a lot of poison/bleeding plus some weakness/blind/cripple, you’re going to want a full condition build, perhaps with extra duration.

After the update, I might even consider going 30-30-10-0-0 just so I can get that extra duration and so that I can get a bit of regen with it as well.

Temple of Balthazar Bugged

Hey, this is Chuck from jade quarry. I’d just like to say that the “Lone Post” precursor event to the Temple of Balthazar is bugged. No risen are attacking it, and the AoE point-capture ring is static—it hasn’t moved up at all in a looong time. Anyone know when this might be working again?

Thoughts on March 21st Update

Quite a few changes are being made to the necromancer. With this update, we continue our focus on survivability and attrition. Dhuumfire is being unified for PvE and PvP and moved to Life Blast instead of requiring the necro to critically hit an enemy. The Death Magic line has been reworked and restructured slightly so that minions are no longer a required element of that trait line. We’re moving some traits around and making room for Armored Shroud, which grants bonus toughness while in Death Shroud, and Soul Comprehension, which increases the base life-force gain from surrounding deaths.

For once, I am actually quite excited for the changes to the necromancer. Reworking death magic so that you don’t have to use minions was a must, and the death shroud updates seem promising. What are your guys’ thoughts?

New trait, thoughts?

I’m just saying this right now: minion builds are OP. You can tailor them so that they are doing a ridiculous amounts of damage, plus siphons.

Picture this: you have a minion-siphon build, place 30 in death magic for the new trait so you have healing in DS. Yes, I know, I know…you’d do near to no damage with this build. But with all of your minions, you can pretty much just sit back and watch anyway.

I’m a fan of the trait, just not its location. It should be somewhere where conditionmancers can actually use it!!! The’re the ones who need sustain the most, not minionmancers.

New Mesmer trait ...seriously?

The only thing that bugs me is how when they announced this, they said it will help keep that one necromancer from using consume conditions…seriously? Mesmers pretty much already own most necros, and comparing it to this professsion? What does that accomplish? Proving that it’s super OP?

Personally, I don’t really like the new traits the’re adding. Some are too bad, some are too good. It negatively affects profession balance.

Most of the eles I’ve encountered in sPvP are simply to nervous or inpatient to time their skills well. I can almost instantly tell when an ele is going to chain all of his offensive skills and try to “burst” me down. With Endure Pain, stability and some decent offhand blocking (shield, sword) all I need to do is block during that phase and reduce him to dust when he is finished.

However, I’ve also encountered extremely skilled eles which were a real challenge even for my warrior condi builds.

Oh….you think I was playing mostly with ele? Actually, I was really using necro. Zerker+necro+no thoughness=lose every time.

Also, IMO 5g is not that big of a deal. I bought that recipe then realized to make the light version of the backpack I’d need about 100g (crafting most of the stuff myself). So here I am, dumping all my money on a backpack when I could be spending it somewhere else…..

There is no “light version of the backpack”. All the 3 gift recipes produce exactly the same end result, so, regardless on which character the backpack is going to end on, there’s no reason not to use the cheapest option.

But if you are a tailor, the “light” recipe is the one you can make.
Or?

But why wouldnt you level a leatherworker to 500, if its cheaper to do that and craft the backpiece as leatherworker compared to the cost of crafting it as tailor, even if you already are at tailoring 500?

That’s a good point….would have cost me less to level a leatherworker to 500 than conjure up 100 big ones for one item. Wish I knew about that earlier….oh well.

If you could make any improvements...

Picture this: if you were given enough power to make any improvements to necro you wanted for next update, what (5-10ish) would they be?

Mine would be:
1) rework DS so that you can stomp/res/use stuff, also fix locking skills bug
2) make DS so that some of the skills change based on what weapon you’re using
3) rework siphoning, and boost most traits/skills that siphon, including signet of vamp (i.e., no internal cooldown, etc.)
4) get rid of/nerf minioning siphoning health, waaaaay too OP/promotes laziness IMO
5) rework blood magic line, buffing/replacing certain traits; add a trait to master that lets regen health through DS
6) since necros have no invul, block, very little mobility, etc, give general defense buffs, maybe a super siphon, something cool
7) find a way to nerf scepter/condition spamming so that it takes a little more skill to apply conditions

I’m just gonna say this up front, I reaaaaaally don’t like the warrior right now. I mean, I remember half a year ago when the warrior had no condition removal and a bunch of broken stuff. Now, whenever I go into pvp, I always get killed by them!!! It doesn’t matter if I go condition, bunker, zerker, whatever. They just kill me off. With condition, they just block and use cleansing ire a ton….with bunker, they just block invuln block invuln and out bunker, out dps you….and then with zerker, oh gosh, I can’t even do anything!

Now, I’m not trying to point out one particular build here. Basically, any build with a decent amount of toughness, invuln, and mayb some blocks/cleansing ire. I’ve gotten owned from anything to a hammer/bow warrior, to a bow/sword/sword or shield/sword/bow, to a hammer/shield/sword. Most of the time the’re condi, but it doesn’t matter what build they have…if it’s not a zerker stat and they have a ton of toughness, I can’t kill them without assistance. Just saying, warrior is OP. That’s my rant.

Yea, you should have looked before you leaped. The best advice is to just try to follow through with crafting it, and don’t make the same mistake again.
