Guardian monopoly on AoE stability

Would be nice to see those melee train mesmers and engineers made possible by changes like this, but the way I see this there is also a risk of introducing too much stability to meta. If every profession can drop stability on demand all CC could become entirely useless and meta would be just big melee trains driving trough any amount of walls and hammering all to oblivion.

Then again the changes that you suggest aren’t that over the top or anything. Toss elixir B would still only give 3 stacks and Mesmer would still need to charge those mantras.

I say would say yes to these suggestions.

For me it makes no difference is it a duel or is it just one man attacking somebody who ís trying to regroup with commander. I wont join the fight either case.

Scoring changes arent intented to make night players time less valuable than prime time players. At this moment a single night time player can make over 10 times the score prime time player can.

If you would get less points when there are less players ingame it would make players more equal.

My answer: 4. Observe the fight. If you ally loses you let him/her die and engage the enemy after.

This may sound a bit stupid and it has actually gotten me and many of my allies killed, but: My personal code of honor prevents me from +1:ing a fight.

Then again if I see ally who clearly doesnt want to fight just running away and not trying to fight I would step in signalling “I am your opponent!” to the enemy.

Also if I am fighting 1v1 and an ally steps in I most likely step out of the fight and let my ally handle the battle. If +1 enemy steps in I either try to defeat them 1v2 or run away fast as possible depending on my mood.

My answer to both would be “They are the same build”. There would be only a minor difference how both play, most players wouldn’t even notice it. But nowadays say if elementalist takes Air over Fire for example it is already a big difference in the build.

Not really only options there were. For example I used to play meditation guard with scepter+f and gs with 20 15 30 0 5 or 20 10 30 5 5. It’s just sheeple who keep the flaps next to their heads and focus on that one thing in front of them being “meta”. When there was so many more viable options.

You missed the question. The point was not to say that those 2 builds were all possible builds, it was to ask “How do you define a build?”

You gave a good example of two different medi guard trait setups, but in my opinion those two builds (Scepter+F/GS 20 15 30 0 5 and 20 10 30 5 5) are actually the same build. Do you think those 2 are really considered different builds? For clarity’s sake I feel I need to say that I do think that for example 0 5 30 5 30 and 20 10 30 5 5 are indeed very different builds.

Give us back build diversity.

I only say what I have seen with my own eyes and talk about my own experiences.

And I’m saying your own experiences appear to be extremely limited so are of very limited value when you only play for 2 hours at primetime in a guild raid on borderlands on a gold tier server.

Two months ago when FSP was facing lower servers this is what you wrote:

“Come back everybody.
I am sad and alone running around fighting NPC only.”

And no everybody has not come back, quite the opposite, the server statuses are now even lower than they were, there is not a single full server in EU or NA any more and only 5 very high between the two regions, overall there are even less people playing WvW now, and guess what, on most servers, most of time the only queue you will see will be for EB.

Situation has changed a lot from what it was 2 months ago. My guild could only get like 12 ppl on wvw events and even during prime time there was no action at all in borderlands. We usually just cancelled events and I was running alone doing /cry in the borderlands.

We are not back in a situation where we would have queues on borderlands, but at least enough people have came back that prime time is good. I am still hoping more players get back into action and maybe the Tuesday patch will help realize my wishes.

I play wvw 5×2 hours every week. Only guild wvw events.

So basically in no position to talk about the overall state of WvW.

Server is FSP.

An example of my first point, do you not know how dead FSP is for most of the day compared to what it was? Or how the queues even at primetime these days do not compare to say 8 or so months ago?

Fighting guilds or zoneblobs every day. We rarely see enemies using these new banners…

Then you aren’t very observant, it is pretty common to see banners in blobs, it is also common to see guilds using them when fighting blobs, and I don’t mean a guild being vastly outnumbered fighting a blob, I mean guilds hand-holding with as many or more than the opposing blob or a guild that is fighting alongside their own blob, that is the “quality” of guilds/players these days.

I don’t make statements.

I only say what I have seen with my own eyes and talk about my own experiences. We are really having a good time, fighting against opponents of all sizes and we really rarely see banners used.

Additional note I we only play on desert borderlands, maybe banners are more common on EB.

This is what I see:

  • Dragonhunters with builds like this Some guardians carry bows for bow 5 bugged skill.
  • Revenants with full zerker hammer dps build that shares a lot of boons.
  • Elementalists for damage / support
  • Mesmers for veil and also dropping those gravity wells. Gravity well kills people.
  • Necromancers for well bombs. Often traited into Reapers that push into melee range.

I am having great time in wvw.

Fighting guilds or zoneblobs every day. We rarely see enemies using these new banners so I don’t even have anything to say about them. Travel times for me are about same in new map as in the old. Profession balance could be better and I wish wvw would be more melee focused, but overall this “meta” is not the worst wvw meta there has been.

There are some annoying things too. Earth keep “walls”, bugs, lag, reve 222 spam, autoupgrades…

WvW is over. RIP the dream.

I play wvw 5 × 2 hours every week. Our guild raids in desert borderlands and we have opponents every day. Somedays fights are fair, somedays we face zoneblobs.

Borders sure aren’t full but we do get a lot of action. Not much different from the old times in alpine bl.

My guild is located in FSP and our wvw events start at 20:00 CET and ends 22:00.

I am curious about your build. This game isn’t called Build Wars 2 by accident and weak build can stop you from winning. If you want you could build your build here and share a link to it to us http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/ . Or you could just write down here everything that you run, or maybe take screenshots that show the stats you got and share it : )

Personally I learned to play guardian because a guildie saw me getting wrecked in duels and suggested to play a meditation guardian build. That build was really easy to play, in the beginning I just used utilites pretty randomly and still did well against normal opponents. After some time (long time xD) I learned to use my skills better.

BTW Did you know that in PVP lobby there are NPC’s that fight against you and you can practice with? They have one NPC for each real profession, 2 beasts and a lord with his crew. Profession NPC’s are easy, but you can practice your rotation on them. Beasts are powerful and new players often get destroyed by them. You should totally practice against the beasts! Lord and his friends are more difficult, if you want challenge take them on!

Kills & Deaths by Map

What kind of numbers you think would mean a good and successful map? Can we know how much kills and deaths / week there used to be in the alpine borders?

I had no idea the problem is this big, I play mostly on borderlands during prime time and there has been fights going on every time I play wvw, but this really shows how empty the maps are compared to EB.

You don’t have the expansion? I totally recommend that you get it. Most of the elite specs are awesome in wvw, both zerking (big fights) and roaming.

You are right about your engineer dream. Its not actually that great in practice. The big fights are mostly about 5 professions nowadays: Guardian/Dragonhunter, Herald, Elementalist/Tempest, Necro/Reaper and the Chronomancer.

Guardians are used for melee/support role, they often run Soldier’s gear and use shouts and virtues to support allies. I consider the dragonhunter specialization a great update on the old basic support build, but there are those who use the old build too.

Revenants are used as “glass cannons” that run hammer and spam their powerful ranged skills.

Necromancers are used for the “well bomb”, a 600 range AoE that can destroy any opponents that get caught in it. Nowadays they can also engage on melee range with their new reaper shroud. Builds are often glass cannon.

Elementalist do mighty good damage with their long range spells and also support by dropping waterfields that heal nicely when you use a blast finisher on them. Staff elementalists often play on glass cannon build too.

Chronomancers use their spell “veil” to give stealth for the entire team for few seconds. They also have their new tech: “Gravity Well” that can totally destroy any opponents caught in it.

My guild needed more stability for wvw fights. I played mostly warrior so guardian was refreshing to play every once in a while. Dragonhunter has brought so many new tools to guardians and its much more exciting to play now. New virtues make all the difference.

Guardians, thieves, mesmers and elementalists have instant cast teleport spells. They can start a stomp and when you use “Shadow Escape” they can teleport next to you. This happens very often.

Do you think that it could have been this instead?

Jeah it is worth it. For me HoT is all about 3 things:

1.) Elite specializations. Elites give something new into your characters and new builds are fun to play. Also there are some concerns that if you don’t have the expansion you are left behind.

2.) Group content (raids mainly, but also new map events). Raids are fun with guild team. If you don’t want to get into active raid group then it sucks for you. New map events are kinda cool too, pretty difficult also you need to be coordinated.

3.) Solo story and exploring new maps. This was the first thing I did in HoT. Was super fun to me. Story was good and jungle was fun.

If I am fighting 1v1 fight and you want to kill me there are 3 ways to go with it.

1) Join the fight. I will attempt to run with all skills I have.
2) Let your ally fight me. I wont run even I am going to lose.
3) Let me kill your ally, then attack. I wont run even I am going to lose.

Often adding into fight just leads to the outmanned party running and you are now forced to chase them for hours if you want your kill. Maybe you enjoy “thrill of the hunt” then ofc you chase the opponent, but if you just want “bags” then its kinda waste of time.

CoR is super fun to use. Its always to see big numbers and know that you and your revenant pair are responsible for the dead of so many. I have been running reve in wvw events for a month now and it has been a great time for me.

Still I am forced to agree that skill + 50% damage trait is OP and I would like to see them nerfed. Reves would still be good with our boons and hammer ranged skills. Skill 1 hits like necro DS 1 and can be used to focus dudes. Skill 3 is not weak either and I have gotten 10 k hits to eles with it. Skill 5 is kinda slow but still nice CC.

Oh I am not asking how long it takes for me to get to those places. What I am interested is how long it takes for other players and how long they feel it should take.

In multiple threads I have seen people say it takes “ages” or “too long” to move in this new map, but nobody has actually given any details how much that time is for them and what would they consider acceptable.

Hello folks!

There has been a lot of talk about new maps being “too big” and/or “too difficult to navigate”. I wanted to ask fellow players this question:

“How long does it take for you to reach these objectives if you start from southeast spawn-area of borderlands”?

1. How long does it take for you to get to Air keep?
2. Fire keep?
3. Earth Keep?

And that leads to second question: What do you think the travel time should be?

And since everybody likes to compare things to how they used to be might as well ask third question: How long did it take to reach corresponding objectives in old borderlands?

The speed of hammer skills

Hammer is slow jeah. Its slow for guardians and warriors too. Only profession who has “fast” hammer skills seems to be the engineer. Its skill #2, #3 and #4 happen almost instantly.

I do think having hammer as a slow weapon is good, but still I would like to have a skill like engineer hammer #4 block. But maybe it doens’t fit the way revenant uses hammer.

Personally I run almost full zerker (soldier amulet) with strength runes. You seem to be bit tankier. Take zerker trinkets to your inventory and swap between them and cavalier if you feel you are surviving nicely.

My traits are a bit different. I have taken + 20% damage to weak dudes and +2% damage for each boon you have. Biggest trait you are missing is however Cruel Repercussions. That one gives 50% extra damage and allows those 15k crits : P Dont miss it.

I mostly use herald legend. The other one is kinda whatever and I always swap between them based on feelings.

As for how to play this build there are few tricks and things you need to remember, but mostly its just you pressing 1 and 2 repeatedly.

At the moment revenant is very good in big wvw fights. You can give boons to your friends as a herald and deliver doom to your opponents from relatively save distance with your hammer. In small scale fights revenant seems to be okay.

In PvE they all should be good and have their uses.

Just strafe back and forth a bit – it’ll never hit you.

I am having zero problems hitting people with this skill. With so many effects on the battlefield they cannot evade everything and they must kinda be somewhere. I suggest you two learn using your skills and you might actually hit your opponents!

It absolutely does have the red damage markers (not an outline, but it moves progressively away from the Revenant) and is easily avoided. This may be related to your graphics settings.

Jeah it does have the graphic effects, but no “red circles” type of outline. And as for easily avoided I am constantly landing this skill with no problems at all.

This skill deals huge damage from 1200 range. It has become one of the most powerful skills in wvw. Combined with revenant’s damage boost traits this skill can crit for 5k-10k damage against the enemy. It is a ranged skill that can hit 5 opponents and deal more damage than for example guardian’s hammer 2 or warrior’s Earthshaking. Cooldown on the skill is really low 2s. For some reason the skill doesn’t even have those red damage markers that would make dodging it easier.

I think the skill is too powerful and would like to see it changed. Either by lowering the damage, increasing the cooldown or increasing the energy cost on the skill. Or combination of those things. While dropping these insane bombs is really fun, I feel that this skill is out of balance.

If you have 50% change to win a game and you play 9 games in a row its 0.5^9 = 0.2 % change that you lose them all. That shouldn’t happen too often but is certainly more common than a precursor drop xD

And is also easily tested in game.

If you have 1 waterfield and 10 guardians with hammer 2 jumping to it you only get 5 blasts.

You can blast it unlimited times in theory, but those blasts must come from 5 different players. 10 players cannot blast 1 waterfield once. 5 thieves can blast one waterfield quite a few times with shortbow.

you are confused. 5 people simultaneously (virtually impossible to coordinate), unlimited if staggered, even by a fraction of a second.

No. Only 5 people can interact with any field during its lifetime. This is best seen in gvg situations where thieves are dropping smoke fields to stealth 20 man raid team. They need to drop more than one field so that every party can get 2 blasts in.

-No cap on the number of people that can blast it
-No cap on the number of heal due to no cap on number of people that can blast it
-Most commonly used water field [Healing Rain]: 450 radius

Water fields do have limits.
-Only 5 people can interact with a field
-Not everybody has multiple blasts. 1 blast / player would be good blasting.
-1 Blast heals 1300 for 5 ppl. If you get 5 blasts in heal is about 7k to 5 players.

Icebow 4 shoots 24 “ice shards” that each can hit 1 target.

Meteor shower drops 24 meteors that each can hit 3 targets.

In the future Ice Shards can hit 3 targets as well? Or did I understand it wrong?

I run this build all the time, and I’ve pretty much min-maxed it.

Hide in Shadows, cause it stealths you,

Why do you use Hide in Shadows with Trapper’s respite? Their stealth effect doesn’t stack does it? You do get 4s stealth from heal and 4 from trap, but they don’t stack and you just have “double stealth”, right?

Hi!

Yesterday I noticed a lot of players talking about a “cheater that kills without revealing itself and is almost impossible to kill”. I went to find out what is this player all about and indeed I did find him trying (and sometimes succeeding) to kill fellow players in front of my keep in the Eternal Battlegrounds.

I was pretty sure he was cheating. I mean, how can somebody kill a person while staying in stealth all the time? Without revealing him/herself even while attacking. However before I made a cheat report to anet or QQ’ed in the mapchat I stopped for a while and thought “Is there even a possibility that this is legit?”.

I logged onto my thief that had been parked for a long time and started looking at the traits. Also I remembered that the “cheater” had been using traps. Would it be possible to kill somebody with traps without getting revealed? Would it be possible to gain perma-stealth with traps and D/P stealth?

I started testing stuff.

1. Yes. You can get 100% uptime on stealth with thief skills and traps.
2. Yes. Thief traps don’t deal damage. They don’t “reveal” you.

So I made a build. Took all traits that say “trap” in them and took all condi gear I had and cooked some Superior Runes of the trapper. I was ready to test the build in wvw and make a quick video too. Although the things in my video don’t play out that well for me, it still shows that it is possible to attack people in WvW with this thing: http://youtu.be/DkyqDdU1HrM

Now my final feelings about this build:

  • I don’t like this build and I don’t recommend it to anyone.
  • Ability to have permanent stealth is not healthy balance.
  • Traps not revealing you feels wrong.
  • Yes you can kill people, but its not that difficult to run away from this.
  • I have seen at least 4 other players use this build in wvw now. Its not my invention or anything.

Pack Runes arent used for Swiftness boost.

They are used because they give 175 power, 6% critical hit change and also they give relevant boons in combat when hit.

On ranger they also give extra remorseless trigger.

No Rally from Rock Dogs

Hi,

In new borderlands there are a lot of Rock Dogs roaming around. If you get downed near one you can’t use it to rally.

Other monsters such as Plains Wurms and Stalkers do let you rally.

Map has lot of open space. I don’t get it why people are saying that there is not enough open space. All towers seem to have open space next to them. Air keep area seems to be the place with lot of narrow passageways though, but even there are ways to approach that are open.

Camps have 4 normal “charr guards” and a lord. Also when camp upgrades the dolyaks get escorts. Unlike in old camps you don’t have to kill dolyaks or escorts, since they are staying in stables next to the capture circle.

Also for roamers there are new targets: The Shrines.

U2 can be trapped on a low pop server.

What changes is the definition of of what is Very High ect. Atm it takes into account both PvE and WvW players. After patch its not going to care about those players who only play PvE. Some servers might become easier to transfer to, and some servers might become FULL.

So yes. Tomorrow you most likely cannot go to servers like SFR or FSP.
