This is all i have to say https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f3Br3BKRqI
Even if other guy gets OOC and the thief doesnt, whats the point? Extra move speed wont help you trying to guess where the thief went, nor will it help you recapture the point faster after the thief disengaged.
This whole thing just seems like a hell of a lot of trouble for pretty much nothing. I dont see Anet wasting resources into this.
To make the thief attack or run and not just stealth around for 5 minutes while you get bored.
Problem is mesmer’s don’t have a choice, they must have phantasm’s because they are on the weapons. I would prefer they cut the damage they do and give it to the actual mesmer…but then the class concept is made around clones/phantasm’s so might be ruining that.
Jesus christ what is this obsession with modes?
If the combat itself doesnt keep you interested, new modes will only have the “release” effect for you, after that you realise new modes dont change the combat that you didnt like in the first place.
It makes it kitten poor for a supposedly PVP game.
No open world pvp.
Two game modes…zerg vs zerg – World vs World.#
or
Team Domination.
Where as a true pvp game would have multiple modes and open world pvp.
Games called Guild wars…LOL you can’t do anything remotely like Guild vs Guild.
one short evade that limits your mobility whilst using it on dagger
one projectile reflect that roots you in place (in wvw thats often a death sentence; some smart person will put an AOE under you) on axe
x
An evade is mobility.
Compared to a block which can be auto attacked off at range. This is an SPVP forum not a WVW one.
What you say isn’t logical at all. Its excuses and lack of imagination of how things can be used.
You really need to watch the discovery channel more, animals use there nose to smell. So doesn’t that mean this “thief” never shower’s. Tbh it’s his own fault, shower at least once a day and your chances will become better.
I didn’t know birds had a great sense of smell.
who needs smell.
It has awesome eyesight and comes at 200 mph.
Well, the video is mostly a compilation of one burst combo that’s become popular on Warriors these days. I’ve fought many like it. The thing is, outside of that combo, there’s little the warrior brings to the table with this build. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s important to remember our limitations.
I disagree I think a good warrior is well worth his weight…for example spirit rangers are the big thing…well a good warrior counters them very well, they also counter necro’s well so the two big classes at the moment have trouble with warriors, take the advantage!
Ele is not dead. It is in face still a very strong class. The problem is that too many people joined the ele bandwagon when it was completely OP and now do not know how to adapt.
Reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-NFg8_irL4
Skip to 5 mins to get the point after seeing the guy whine about being nerfed
lol just remembered part 3

I know I was not targetted because I especifically tested this with a ranger friend in an empty server. Otherwise I would just be making a fool out of myself.
Than you attacked the ranger first and the pet tracked you down. Pet’s always stay by the ranger’s side unless they are attacked or told to attack. They don’t simply run around the map, looking for targets to attack on their own!
If you don’t believe me, roll a ranger and see for yourself.
Thats what i was saying all along!
Greastsword is a defensive weapon
Sword is an offensive weaponQuit complaining, they both have their place. I’d prefer GS as it is rather than being a sword, just bigger.
Its not…anyone who says it is frankly is wrong.
1 – Offensive
2- Offensive
3 – Offensive (can be used to run away but not its intended use)
4 – Defensive
5 – OffensiveSword is more defensive than that with all the rolling around.
compared to sword it is a defensive weapon
lower dps auto attack with a built in evade
block
control (hilt bash)the only thing defensive about sword is the poison evade (i wouldnt count hornets sting because of the annoying period where your character stands still and throws bees in their face, which leaves you very open)
Comparing 5 abilities to 3 is hardly the same. You have an offhand with a sword…take your pick..want to be defensive go dagger or axe.
I am just curious of the average rank of pvp player, i play quiet a fair bit of pvp and i am gaining ranks so slowly. So yeah interested in peoples rank and how they feel about the speed of the ranking system.
I am rank 25…and i think it seems very slow…well considering i am not even in the latter half yet! I could understand it slowing down in the latter stages but it feels like ive barely got off the ground!
I’m saying its AI-maphack, its seen in almost every game, it’s not a hack. Tell me something why do you feel a clueless Ranger, with no map awareness, that would just capture the point the walk away, rightfully being punished by allowing me to neutralize it, should be rewarded because the AI does the searching for him, regardless of not being to actually see me?
Oh right we are going to complain about something that isn’t in the game. Sounds logical.
This actually does happen. The reason I don’t advocate removing it altogether is that since the ranger’s damage balancing is tied to their pet being present, the pet has to have some way of working with a terrible target system. That said, I think it would be safe to slightly decrease the leash length, and half the leash length again if the target stealths to flee and exit combat, so that the pet does not pick up a target so far away.
Just brainstorming here.
Link ability please.
No decent mesmer ever use phant. defender ( exept bunkers tho thay are reare and the other phantasam will not do the same dem )
you enter the battle with 3 or 4 spirits
the mesmer must sumon them if you dont dodge it i did few games with spirit rangar its soooooo SOOOO easy to paly wen you swich to s/d if you do it properly you have like 6-7 eveds in the healing spring wich will give you back 80 % of your hp i did survive vs 2 ppl for 10 sec with 1k hp them my heal cd ran off and heal myself my back up came and we kill them this happens alot
you will destroy any illusion memser with condy long befor you die from berserker and duelest unles your a total bot and dont dodge it
like i said you dont control phantasams they have 1 attack
you control spirits they have 2 passive 1 active
if they kill your spirits you will sumon them again
Is that english?
So it works like this
The ranger dodged and evades everything but the mesmer is a chump and gets caught all the time and owned.
The spirits have a 1 minute cooldown but he summons them right away after you kill them…right…
All his spirits are nice a bunched up for aoe and your phantasms all all over the place but its easier to destroy phantasm’s….right…
Ranger has evades but you know invisiblity, swap and blurred frenzy aren’t forms of avoidance right? Distortion too i suppose.
So basically grass is always greener.
6 of you and you cant kill a thief ? there are many ways to deal with shadow reff
1 memser gw can push him or focuse can pull him
2 war can fear him or sinly dem in the shadow reff
3 rangars wolf can fear
and so on and so on if 6 of you cant deal with a thief then its realy a l2p issue
That’s not what he asked. He asked if stealth had a counter, the answer is no it doesn’t.
In WvW you can get an anti stealth trap or something but in purely class terms, there is no counter.
What i find funny is that mesmer’s totally dismiss Phantasm’s because they can be killed yet the exact same could be said for a spirit ranger’s spirits.
AHAHAHAHAHA
first you can have 2 phantasams then you have to w8 for 20 sec and then pop the 3-th you need a target
rangar can haVE 4 SPIRITS you dont need target to sumon them
for sumonning a phantasams you can missed/block dode …… you begin with spirits
phant. have 1 skil you dont control it
spirits have 1 passive and 1 activate and wen they die again another one
you cant compare this two
Lol completely wrong. On nearly everything
You can have 3 phantasm up.
You can have 3 spirits up…possibly 4 but you lose all your utilities and elite.
You can have 3 phantasms up very quickly the ranger has to summon his but they last longer.
Phantasm’s are on a 20 to 30 second cooldown. Spirits are a 1 minute cooldown.
Phantasms hit for a truck load of damage by themselves…the mesmer can be invisible at the time. How is that less passive than a spirit ranger?
You can summon phantasms from utilities “Phantasmal Defender” is not a block? Redirects damage to itself…sounds like a block. Note with a utility there is no 20 second wait time…OMG i have to “waste” a utility! so broken…lol tell that to the ranger.
Your saying Phantasm’s aren’t as good…riiiiiight.

Logically this doesn’t make sense.
There is a chance you go against a full premade, yes, but if you queue as 2 then someone else queued as 3 to fill out your team, meaning the pool is full of people not queuing as a full premade.
That said, just recruit a few more people for team tourneys, you’ll make new friends that way anyway, but yes, if you don’t mind the possibility of going against a full premade now and then, you can duo-queue.
How doesn’t it make sense? You either go into the solo queue or you can grab other players from your guild and join as a 5. If your in a half way decent guild at least your going to get 5 decent players which is better than you can expect if you get random’s.
People should not talk about which downed state is better, it should talk instead if downed state is needed at all. In my opinion, downed state should have never been introduced. It is useless and not interesting (you kill one player, but you actually didn’t then you have to slowly stomp him..)
Well imo downed state is a blight, it stops good players doing well and lets off bad players. Just makes numerical advantage even bigger…that being said there is some tactics to it sometimes.
You either need a full team or go solo…no mode for a few friends anymore. It is unfortunate, i suffer from the same problem as only a couple of my friends pvp. My advice would be try to get into a guild who will join you and your friend so you can play as a 5.
Um try guild recruitment…this is a PVP forum.
in spvp i don’t have such a big problem with swifness as i have in wvw. there u gotta run long long distances. runes of the centaur is good for swifness, but i prefer using other runes for the fights. focus is kinda a must have in wvw.
In WvW i would give you its an issue…but can get swiftness from a weapon..focus i think? then take it off before you enter battle…not ideal but it beats normal running speed.
I’m saying its AI-maphack, its seen in almost every game, it’s not a hack. The truth is that Spirit Ranger is disgustingly for handicaps. I have never played or seen a class where its play is so disturbingly passive. But that is not the point of this thread.
You have no point. You claim its the classes….ok go and spec anything else than spirit ranger and claim passive play.
ooooooooooooo lala
I will do this easier for you.
“THE BIGGEST ISSUE IS NOT META. ITS THE SKILL FLOOR. ITS NOT BUILDS. ITS THE CLASSES.
IF YOU CHECKED MY POSTS I STARTED OFF WITH SPIRIT RANGER AS STIMULI NOT BEING A FACTOR.
For me, Guild Wars 2 suffers from spam, animation(s)(?), useless traits, runes, sigils, classes doing it all (conditions, boons, crow control, stealth openers, passing heals) which minimizes uniqueness, A.I, brainless builds and bla bla bla".
Its not hard to read by you use both your eyes. Thus, spirit ranger was used as an excuse to paint the biggest picture.
.
Ive seen people do better than that first time playing necromancer
I did better than that first time on Mesmer.
Play an easy mode spec…and guess what? its easy.
So I got this game a few days ago, I got a guardian up to 42 and was thinking the PvP was gonna be sick. Later when I started doing, this games PvP is a joke. Honestly, terrible PvP you just can’t go ham it takes usually 5 mins to kill 1 person, that’s just ridiculous. I love doing PvP games and I’ve played a lot and i gotta say that there are so many better games with better PvP. And don’t be like “stop QQing” because i know wtf im saying
If your taking 5 minutes to kill someone then your doing it wrong.
Totally unbalanced.
However when a guardian and thief go down its totally cool the guardian wins.
(edited by Conan.8046)
Nerf pets damage considerably, phantasms, spirits, minions…summons whatever…
So Ranger>all but 1 build. That is ok for you or what you like to say?
That would be two builds, great sword and longbow is not a skull crack build. However any good cleave or AOE will kill the spirits fast. Once they are down the ranger will fall over.
Not all classes can do it…but that’s another matter.
Assumes the mob has logic, most of the time it doesn’t.
I find rank this early in the running to be meaningless. If you played less than say 50 matches it doesn’t really matter. I am rank 850 supposedly…do i deserve it? only if i can keep it up!
they are usually above average players who want to do nothing but complete their daily
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Seconded.
It feels really weird to be a primary Warrior and going “Huh? These guys aren’t that bad for me” because they only have 1 resist and then after that they are easy prey for either my Skull Crack build or my Earthshaker build.
For TPvP I’d suggest teams consider bring a Warrior because currently we are strong against both Spirit Ranger and Condi Spam Necros.
As for SoloQ I think they need to rewrite the matchmaking system so that it doesn’t put more than 2 of a class in a team unless there are really no other options.
@DevO Warrior is by far the hardest class that I’ve played because missing a Earthshaker or Skull crack means you’re instantly at a disadvantage. In fact most warrior builds have very little margin for error.
I said in another thread but ill say again…my mate (warrior) demolishes spirit Rangers with his Longbow/GS build.
He would have to target you to send his pet on you anyway. Nerf targeting.
I would settle for a capture the flag…or another type of game. Maybe a last man standing?
Did someone just say warriors hard counter spirit rangers…….
There are very few hard counters in the game. Warrior isn’t a hard counter to spirit ranger but a good warrior using a great sword and mobile strikes…yes he is indeed a big threat…fact that every hit could potentially cleave all of your spirits.
Honestly i can’t think of a harder fight for a spirit ranger. I play a ranger…not spirit…so boring! and my friend plays a warrior…ive never seen a spirit ranger beat him. He uses Longbow and GS.
Edit – On thinking on this…his aoe/cleave must decimate the rangers spirits very quickly..they aren’t really that tough (the spirits that is).
(edited by Conan.8046)
After reading a few posts that basically say a whole lot about what other classes have better than a mesmer and very little about what actually makes a mesmer “unviable” which like meta is used in every other post these days. All i can find that makes mesmer nonviable is a problem with condition removal.
I have seen some ask for more damage given to the Mesmer but that kind of defeats the point in the class now doesn’t it?
(edited by Conan.8046)
No they are amazing, can beat 5 players at once.
Basically this event needs a TON of work. If you switch to YB and message me when I’m on I can organize a group for island control, but I will not do queen.
Queen is a very poor event for a few reasons. 1, extra mobs that spawn decimate zergs and are very hard to kill. 2, very lagg. 3, timers/pugs make it hard to organize. 4, rewards aren’t worth it.
http://www.twitch.tv/deified123/c/2665462
That was the last time I tried to do queen. We had around 15, if not less, doing the pre event and initial fight. Thanks to timers at the end we had around 30, if not more. They scaled the event, agroed more vets and other karka, then when they died they didn’t bother rezzing. Once I finally go down I see that there are like 20 dead players just sitting there waiting to be rezzed. It’s despicable.
We’re having a discussion about the issue in another thread in this forum that I posted.
I am amazed how well you did with that lag. Kudo’s you deserved the kill.
I am actually positive it is. After that it is spirit ranger
The great thing is they both require about the same skill. Spirit Ranger is 80% passive.
I play a Ranger as my main but i won’t touch Spirit Ranger because its soooo boring to play.
Queens gauntlet is a 1v1 you can’t compare it to a instanced boss fight because alone you can’t CC 100% but with 5 people you can.
5. Are spirits the sole problem? Or is the problem partly due to the ranger’s multitude of evades and dodges?
Do you see anyone complain about Marksman/trap rangers? no. There is a reason for that.
IMO summoned weapons have worked out poorly…its just a whole bunch of utility skills that aren’t much use. I would prefer more like to every other class has…buffs/escapes/defence/abilities. Its not like there’s a lack of things they could do…
Elementalist takes a lot of skill to play well. Coupled with engineer it has highest skill cap in the game. I wouldn’t recommend elementalist to anyone who didn’t like a big challenge or gives up easily. Frankly elementalist is a horrible pain to learn…i know i am trying it just now, having played every other class in the game except necromancer…i believe elementalist is hardest…really punishes you when you make mistakes.
Thief is fairly easy to come to grips with, mastering the class is a challenge few manage…but to play to an average standard is easy and they are pretty strong even when played at that level. That being said…as a thief you have an escape mechanism that allows you to recover from all but the worst mistakes…so fairly fun even if your bad like me!
From a PVP point of view. PVE i have no idea how elementalist is…thief is good solo but fairly lacking anything special in group PVE.
I did him as a ranger…..but i found removing the snare was half the battle. Keep at range and you can avoid most of the damage. The snare stops you getting out of the way so just make sure you have your condition removal ready.
Not sure if this is what you want to hear but…out of all of the classes, personally i found elementalist to be the hardest to learn. Why? they have a small health pool and little armor…so they are extremely glassy…unlike a thief who has an iron curtain you pretty much are always in danger.
The real issue lies in that Ele’s really lack in a constant defence and their h/p pool is small so they are forced to spam healing on themselves to survive…and when your healing your damage is low/none. I am aware you can stack toughness/vitality/healing…but i was playing an elementalist as a damage dealer not a bunker.
IMO…there are two ways they can go…either make elemenalist more ranged based…to avoid they main battle…or increase survival.
