Fun fact, guild wars 2 is exceptionally easy to pvp compared to the likes of Wow…which you need about 20 macro’s 10 addons and 30 keybind’s to play at an average level.

The skill cap is high, however if you lose to an engineer as another class hes hugely outplayed out. Engineers are not hard to beat 1v1.

Engi does more for the group and has better solo damage. Necro has better damage when fully buffed. Necro has no useful utility except for blinds which can be obtained from other classes easily enough. Engi can pretty much cap 25 vuln in aoe on its own. Necro can only maintain 12 vuln on a single target. Engi can stack might pretty nicely, necro can only give themselves selfish might. This is comparing optimized zerker dungeon builds for both classes as condi damage doesnt really have a place in pve.

Nobody needs to stack 25 vulnerability themselves. There are many classes who apply this so being able to stack it yourself isn’t important. Warriors apply it with auto attack on a great sword, Rangers apply it with rapid fire….they will use those skills anyway and that’s just two off the top of my head. Vulnerability stacking is not a good reason to take anyone as most classes can do it to an extent so having 4 other people who don’t stack it is VERY rare.

In essence, the engineer has a workload akin to elementalists to maintain DPS. This by swapping between 3 kits and a weapon set to cherry pick skills from each.

Bingo.

Only Elementalists don’t need to waste all their utilities to do so.

Our toolbelt kinda makes up for that, no?

Not really, most tool belt skills are just alot of crap, they give minor effects where as true utilities give major effects.

this thread is literally a giant congregation of whiners. if you don’t like the class, switch. if you don’t know how to play, learn. if your build doesn’t do damage, read the previous sentence and then google a new one.

anyone who compares engis to ele needs to shut up. “Wah! Wah! Only Elementalists don’t need to waste all their utilities to do so.” last time i checked, the cooldown on attunement swapping is 9 times longer fully traited than kit swapping. furthermore eles and engis have different playstyles. no ele will come close to matching the dps of an engi, but they have huge partywide buffs and constant self heals.

a comment for a different forum, but to the guy who says mace/hammer damage is comparable to axe/gs warrior, lol. please stop.

comparing traits from different classes is idiotic. the reason why dogged march is an adept trait is because engineers don’t have the problem of being kited forever and ever and ever. but since it’s apparently the cool thing to do, check out dhuumfire, a grandmaster trait that’s worse than incendiary powder, an adept trait. funny how nobody mentions that. oh no engineer traits must be op then!!11

the only agreeable topic that that has any substance in this thread is that a full turret build is worthless. but you know that we’re not unique in this issue right? ever see a full spirit weapon guardian? how about a full glyph elementalist? some builds are just better than others. get over it. yes i agree turrets need to be worked on, but that can be discussed elsewhere instead of a cry thread that no dev will ever pay attention to.

Typical from a PVE player. 8.5k auto attacks with bombs….maybe with stupid buffs or something but in pvp…not gonna happen. If it did you would get hit with the nerf bat so hard you wouldn’t know what day it was.

LOL mace/hammer vs GS/axe in pvp is no contest. While probably you would choose mace or hammer rather than both…both are extremely good in pvp. Axe and GS are easy to dodge and don’t have half the control. Although many warriors still use the sword for mobility its not the damage that’s great unless you stunned the target with your mace ofcourse, otherwise they will just dodge or move from your 100 blades and you will stand there hitting air.

No class can be kited forever.

Actually.. I’d say it’s REAAAAAALLLY easy to play rogue/shadowpriest/shaman…. which is what I played..

You probably played at a really low skill level and were carried because those classes were OP in vanilla. Even then, beatable other players who were good could whoop anything

Hi! I played wow from vanilla to TBC;
The game was fun but I played a character meant for 12 year olds and the mentally handicapped so maybe I wasn’t getting the full experience?

Wow is alot harder to play well than guild wars.

Metally handicapped 12 year olds…like Spirit Rangers, Necro’s, S/D theif or more recently Warriors.

Downed State is an abomination. That’s one of the worst things about this game. What annoyed me about wow is all the addons, macro’s and stupid amount of binds just to be compeditive.

Grenade range

Average effective pistol range is 30 meters (50 yards)
Grenade throw range – 30-35 meters by the average male soldier.
Mortar WW2 model – 2400 meters.
First shotgun like rifle – 30 – 60 meters effective (Brown Bess, next generation blunderbuss)

So by far the most silly is the mortar.

I wasn’t talking about effective range. But in game perspective we are all hero’s / expert marksmen so average does not really come into play. My point is only this you can not throw a grenade further than a bullet can travel.

Actually this is wrong i am afraid. Due to the fact what i said before was modern pistols range. A flintlock pistol was used for dueling for example and at 20 yards/10 paces they had very little chance of hitting each other.

Although early grenades were a lot heavier too…fact is there’s not much in it. Pistols are only good very short range.

MMOs had been around for over 20 years before WoW, and if you want to exclude MUDs for some arbitrary reason, more than 10 years with graphics. You may have been new to them at that time, but they weren’t new.

Strickly speaking Wow is an MMORPG which is different. However MMO’s in the 1980’s were just text games. Ultima was the first serious MMORPG and it was made in 1997. Wow was 2004. However if you looked at the numbers pre Wow, MMORPG was a very niche market.

I don’t know, how was WoW one year after it was created?

I remember people saying it was even less balanced than GW2 is now. And didn’t even have structured pvp, if I remember well.

When you bite off more than you can chew, you need to take team to eat it calmly.

One word. Awesome.
Played wow since second day of release untill MoP and in its first few years while it had fairly big balance issues…it was amazingly fun to play. If you were good you could beat 2/3 bad players even if your gear wasn’t amazing (for most classes anyway). While some classes seemed weak when teamed up with others synergy made them awesome too. Wow did have balance issues back then but it was still great fun to play.

Let be clear MMO’s were in their infancy when Wow was new, most people didn’t know how to play. Just 3 or 4 keybinds put you way ahead of the game. People didn’t really know how to play…there was no guides, no pro’s and the pioneer’s of great pvp became legends. You can’t recreate that.

Pet control isn’t working well as it is. So your probably not going to get much support from rangers….however if you said make auto attack much less powerful and special attacks much better. I would agree that would be a step in the right direction.

My gripe is even simpler than yours and comes from a video i watched on twitch. The state of the game – which features a gw2 dev talking to some of the top players. Now he bracketed necro and warrior together and said something roughly like this.

“We want warrior and necromancer to have sustained because they lack escapes..basically once your in your commited” – or words to those effect.

I accept when a necromancer is in..hes commited and there’s very little chance to escape if the person is after him….but a warrior? they have huge escape chances! I have seen warriors escape a ton of times…necromancers? no chance they just die if they are being overwhelmed.

Here’s a link to the stream..I can’t get it to work or i would put the time down when he says it. I believe they are talking about warrior healing signet at the time and warrior in general.

Just those comments made me wonder if we were playing the same game. My main is an engineer…i have real trouble vs necromancers….more so than warriors….but i found that comment totally off….and this guy is one of the people in charge of development.

Who said anything about best? SD doesn’t might stack but can still burst people from 100% to 0, The Bobomber build doesn’t use might-stacking and I can burst people from 100 to 0.

Its not solo’able as far as i can tell..you need to all get to the gates before they open 4/5 at the gate…its not opening. When your solo this changes? I would be surprised and actually quite happy about that.

This build packs a punch and has enough toughness and vitality to keep you alive during prolonged fights.

I use bombs as I find them much easier to use in dungeons (grenades are too spammy for my tastes), but you can easily switch bomb kit out for grenades, and then just switch the Grandmaster trait in explosives to ‘Grenadier’.

Your build is nice but one thing you should consider changing is stabilized armor which gives 20% damage reduction only during the time your stunned/knocked down to Protection Injection which will give you 33% reduction and last 3 seconds.

I assume this was done for spvp reasons (like everything else that happens to this class). Ascended damage doesn’t exist in spvp so they can’t just flat out buff kits/banners/conjures. They have to buff those only in pve/wvw.

I don’t understand this though… they already have the ability to split a skill in two for PvE and SPvP/WvW. Why would a kit skill be an exception?

I think we may get this in the future. I think they maybe waiting for people to have a chance to get their weapons before buffing every single engineer, that would seem fair. Anet have said they are doing something about the legendary/Ascended weapon situation, don’t count it out just yet.

Best tool belt ever!? mine doesn’t do half of that….or could it be your not taking into account at all RNG…and your using 3 elixirs giving you no kits…

Tool belt skills are not the same, comparing them to adrenaline is wrong. We have no weapon swap but we do have kits…this means our utility comes from tool belt and our weapon swaps on utility slots…this is why our utilities on the surface seem weaker, when you take into account the tool belt it evens out.

Power builds are less common because of the meta has been favoring conditions but if you have a solid power build you might find thakittens not so one sided as it was.

Toolkit/flamer/bomb kit work well with power builds. I have made a few in the past, mostly flamer ones….mixing survival and damage is the real challenge

Rifle is a different type of weapon where other than auto attack, you can’t spam skills mindlessly making it more complex to use and thats probably where your dislike comes from. a simple lack of understanding of the weapon which is prob due to trying it on PvE where they wont try to run away from AoE and positioning of the mobs don’t matter.

Amazing how some folks fail to see the obvious, there’s no point even responding. Everything said is relative which means its true compared to other things in the game.

Again i feel like pointing out. This 5% dmg on kits, which makes sense, got hotfixed within 24hours. But, eurh… how long have Turrets been broken now? 2 months? 2.5months?

Yeah. Go figure. They might aswell flash the middle finger on the screen everytime you log into your Engineer.

Easier fix. Turrets are just messed…to be honest i think they don’t know what to do with them.

What is meant by “Rifle is for control” is you have net shot. Which by the way is useless at anything but short range.

So net shot is the trade off for worthless damage? Its not worth it. Inc the static discharge crutch.

Melee weapons are different to ranged. Cripple is huge on a ranged weapon for obvious reasons.

That was what your post boil down to. If you have 1k hours ( I have 336 btw) as a rifle engineer and have issues controlling a fight than there is something you need examine in your playstyle and timing. I am not going to tell you how to play your class but if your skills are not landing do not assume it is the same for everyone else. The CC skills are there. The self cc on OS is actually not bad is really useful. Not going into all this but tossing around hour played does not equal skill and understanding.

Funny engineers always come back to the same thing. Rifle is for control well lets just challege that for a second

Forums are the most toxic part of the community. You say black so they say white. In all honestly i would stop looking at the forums if I was a dev. Even if some of these players are the best players going, who cares? they make up 2/3% of the community?

Those are good points.

What i noticed when playing Wow is that the patch notes on the public test realm were always posted up. I can tell you that about 50% of them never came to live or got toned down severely. The community also had time to respond…and point out things that the dev’s may have missed or overlooked usually class forums are much less toxic that PVP ones, although most forums have a tendancy to echo, if someone who is high rated/famous says something that’s the only way it can be done. Which obviously isn’t true.

This is a great filter….now i watched a stream and you said some players don’t want to test the game for you. Who is forcing them onto a test realm? nobody. Its completely optional.

Expect Toxic forums full of nasty stuff, its funny because they would never speak like that to someones face but being anonymous makes people horrible.

Look back at what VIVorcha said about engineers….then you said about warriors. You did exactly the same thing.

I find it appalling that you can’t realize the difference between “high-skill, high-reward” gameplay and “high-difficulty, moderate reward”.

Expect this sort of thing. Some people don’t keep up with the times very well. They can’t understand the changes not only to our own class but other classes as well have a huge impact on how things play out.

nah spirits have a decent health pool, he can wear them down with Combustive Shot and arcin arrow but not quiet one shot them.

as a warrior he would just have a much easier time dealing with spirit rangers, necros, thief on 1v1 that he would have on an engi, but just because warrior counters meta doesnt mean engineers arent viable. js

Nobody ever said unviable. The point i was making was that given 2 players of the same skill level the engineer will lose 9/10.

its not the AoE……… Rangers only have 1 stun break which comes from a trait… stun lock kills spirit rangers, also counters necros, and its not as risky to fight thiefs lol warrior was just a counter to their comp..

Sure that stun lock with a longbow and greatsword must have been what it was. Explain this to me.
Its actually kinda funny because Super explained it after the match.

Ah yeah he was it was a candy cane. Not that it matters, he explained after the final that the warrior longbow one shots all the spirits.
