Strangely it didn’t break stealthers in most of the other MMO’s with Stealth Breaking on Damage, and they didn’t have the option of instantly restealthing.

This isn’t “other MMO’s”. Currently, this is the hand that thieves are dealt and we are using the mechanics as they were implemented. Stealth has plenty of counters in this game, believe it or not. Perma stealth thieves in particular can be stopped dead in their tracks by using their blind field against them.

Zerg-busting has far more to do with the quality of the zerg than the quality of the “busters”. 10 guys can rip apart a scattered mess of 50 upscale beginners, but don’t stand a chance against 50 fully geared veterans stacking tightly and spiking together. The top zerg-busting guilds, running between 15 and 30 players, can often roll across blobs of 80+, but if that blob contains one or two decently co-ordinated guilds then they’ll fail. The variable isn’t how well the zerg-busting guild is playing, it’s whether the blob is a herd of PvE-newbies following a blue-dorrito, or is a mass of veterans on teamspeak.

People often don’t take this into consideration, and only consider the quality of the “busting” group.

Classes > Skill.
Couple of guardians with retaliation up and your not busting anything.

I wish our rifle was a RIFLE not a pseudo shotgun. just doesn’t feel right running up to a mob point blank with a sniper rifle

I wish our rifle was actually a full-blown shotgun and that all skills scaled up in close range. I don’t want my engi to be a warrior.

Engineer by design is a mid-range fighter. Our Rifle is functionally a shotgun, and that should be reflected in it’s entire skill set. Rifle 3 and 5 already benefit from being toe to toe as opposed to max range. Overcharged Shot should function exactly like Blunderbuss where at 100 range it does more damage. Rifle 1 should function like Ranger’s Long Range Shot, but have damage increase as you close in range. This would also increase the reward for the risk we’re already taking to get max damage out of this weapon.

We need more close range like the game needs more pets.

Bomb/Tool/Grenade/Flamer are all really good close range. You list me the kits that work 500+ on players. Yet you want to make our rifle closer range? I think your wrong i think warrior would have suited you very well because they are extremely potent at close range.

Why don’t you put pressure on fixing stuff that is broken like Rocket Boots instead of dreaming up fixes to problems that don’t exist?

If your biggest gripe with Static Discharge is a 1/4-1/2 sec cast time on toolbelt skills, which I don’t recall ever being an issue in the past, then the build is in a pretty good place.

No my gripe with Static discharge is that it is a crutch. You blow utility skills for no tactical advantage but just to do decent damage. Cast time is not an issue brainless waste of skills is.

Why call it a crutch, without SD most rifle power builds are simply useless. Its a one trick pony. The weapon itself should do the damage not some utility trait that encourages you to just blow everything at once.

Mortar removed or completely redone.

Alchemy – All throw elixir skills are bad save elixir R. They are either RNG or they are simply bad. Those are our utility skills…they should be more useful/reliable.

Turrets – Would like them focusing priority to engineer’s target and be much more robust.

Gadgets – They are weak and synergy with traits and skills doesn’t seem to be there. Many have short duration’s and long cool down. Rocket boots are the exception in this case.

Firearms – Pistols and Rifle need to be looked at, I don’t think they are up to standard or they need to add a single target ranged kit. Rifle and pistol only really work close range and grenades just won’t hit anything that moves.

Reroll Warrior because the class you play is not OP anymore. Seems legit.
I play Elementalist as well, and I agree that things have become very very difficult, and yes I lose 1v1’s to Rangers that are auto-attacking, but playing another class would never cross my mind.
If you can’t burst anymore, then bring utilities that your team would lack without you.
I always run mist form for a safe ress/stomp and Glyph Of Renewal for epic self-ress or team-ress.

Why not? its just annoying to lose when you know its not your lack of skill, rather a broken class. When it gets fixed, go back…honestly you have no loyalty to one class i play them all.

While what you say is true, i don’t dispute that stupid passives and passive boons being too powerful is a huge downer on skill.. they are so built into the game they are impossible to remove.
Huge NPC spam – Pets/minions/ect also detracts from skill…however also they are too important to some classes to remove.

what gear and traits should go with SD then? I know I have no stun breaker but with half soldier and 20 in inventions I should be able to survive more than berserker aren’t I?

I also thought about the 30 in tools for lower cooldown on SD but with full serker and no defensive traits you become very glass cannon and die like in one shot.

How do you stay alive in full berseker?

SD build are simply hit and run, you cant expect survability if you want damage (at least if you play engi). Goal is maximize damage and kill enemy faster then they even try something on you. You simply cant hybridize SD builds because you lost damage and dont get enything really important.
Full zerk gear + ruby orbs or diviny or scholar runes, sigil of fire, air or battle, +100 precision +10% crit damage food and 30 points in Toolts that are the basics. Great investment is also infused precision even if you use speedy kits, because speed is everything. Moment of surprise and keeping distance is everything.
There is way how to tune up SD build by might. You must use MedKit (with is best for SD build anyway because 30 points in Tools). Use 2 Runes of Altruism, Enhanced Performance trait from explosives and Sigil of Battle. You will get 9 might every 10s while you swap on MedKit.

This is for PVP? I wouldn’t go so glassy as that…900 toughness with 16k health…a thief will rip you open in seconds. You do no damage when your dead.

To OP -
Build doesn’t need 30 in firearm’s really..you can get crit mixing your gear up but things like permanent swiftness and vigor are too good to pass up.

Turrets pick up nearest target by default but if in range the turrets will pick up the engineers target.

I know how you feel, I played a engineer first and i really struggled badly…so i tried my hand at other classes and enjoyed trying to learn to play them all to a reasonable standard…but even after that i went back to engineer…still found it really hard compared to the others…even though i invested way more time in it.

Engineer has some things that aren’t quite as easy as other classes like healing with the healing turret is completely different to any other heal in the game.

The game definitly needs something like that (either this or make pets generally untargetable unless you click on them). Only exception should be mesmer clones, as it is their purpose to be targetable, therefor they don’t deal dmg.

If i remember correctly Anet stated that clones were not supposed to be used as decoy’s but rather a fuel for damage from shatters.

3. Create GvG – Solutions for more PvP modes
A GvG mode wouldn’t be that hard to create;
I – Name the PvP maps “Guild halls”. They can be chosen when you create a guild for a little money.
II – Create a Guild based rating not a player based. Also create a Team based matchmaking. —> You can only play GvG when you represent your guild.
The thing about GvG is the feeling of achieving something as a Guild! I think with GvG available more PvE guilds would start to play pvp! With “playerladder” and not team based PvP you don’t get the feeling of a “team”.

Knockdown made more difficult with size.
Power from size.
Vitality/toughness from size.
Speed with size.

There are alot of ways you can make the playing field level without giving small size all its advantages and no disadvantage. Logically we should all play Asura because it is easily the race with the biggest advantages over the others. You would pick the smallest Asura possible because again it makes it even more difficult for others to see what your doing.

Logically though if you were going into a battle in melee…you would want 5 Norn or Charr because size matters in melee.

need gear to pvp, need a stable team to enjoy pvp.
need arenas for gear
need team for arenas (sorta can get away with casual 2’s)
need to live in game to gave a stable team
in gw2 spvp gear is out of equation.
stable team is great, but with no holy trinity can soloQ better.
overall gw2 way more fit for non-hardcore pvpers.

Wow is old and GW2 isnt. You didn’t need gear to succeed in vanilla Wow for some classes. It just made things easier.

You don’t have to do anything, however i did that because i was being knocked down and stunned by warriors to the point i was barely able to do anything. Sometimes i just put on a stun breaker and only take one of the traits…but our stun breakers are relatively poor IMO.

No, no, there is no before, I have the game for a month but I’ve seen some good players coming for like 2v1 with me and that I meant by viable class, I can hold points and be the bunker that Anet limited the ele class to be… And I might be new but the proffesion is like my favorite , I’ve tried countless builds and I can make a difference between no skill and actually nerfed class or unusable build.

Please understand, I do not do rotations, I play for the moment sometimes I even engage with water attunement, Well if you hit with rtl you get the 20s cd… witch always happen and I DO NOT faceroll with my ele, read my comment, I said that if I made a simple mistake I get facerolled and pretty much left for dead.

At least we agree that ele needs buff

I did an HGH flamer build with Juggernaut it worked really well…25 stacks of might are easy to stack and do truck loads of damage. Survival in alchemy is great so i totally recommend trying it.

Honestly…unless your really lacking H/P i see carrion is a poor choice. Our survival mostly comes from healing and toughness. I never seen a large H/P pool as a great defence for an engineer.

You don’t have to choose bombs or grenades, both can work very well together. However in a 1v1 grenades aren’t that great bombs are much better in general. In fact i was watching a 1v1 tournament on Teldo’s channel on youtube and none of the engineers used grenades.

Stabilized Armor with Protection Injection offers you a -50% damage taken when stunned or knocked down. It might not be ideal but it makes you very tank like when knocked down/stunned.

Engineers are rare because they are stupidly hard to play. Grenades for example…well i tried them for ages and couldn’t hit anything until they were pretty close. Then you have bombs which are fine but when your using bombs the enemy is right on you…dangerous when your not great at the class. I think engineer is too unfriendly for most players…that’s just an opinion not saying its fact or anything.

Elementalist are in a bad spot just now…there’s a thread about it kicking around somewhere.

If you read my OP, you would have noted that at no point did I say that Engineer rifle lacked damage. And in fact, HAiMaiNelm’s video demonstrates that there is no shortage of burst coming from Engineer’s rifle. There is no lack of damage, but sustained damage once you get stuck in close range.

Demonstrates nothing its WvW….damage is stupid.

Either PVE or SPVP is easier to judge from…specially SPVP.

U have no choice in sPvP, shield its your best friend for bunkering zone.

4 for a Knocbak (for capping and take xtra time defending)
5 for a 2 secs block + 1-2 stun 1 sec.

this is spvp, i have condi traits and flamethrover and grenades or bombs in utils.

in weapon i like shield. i like that pistol gives basic (condi on 2, blind on 3) without extra clatter and then you can use shield for active defense.

but somehow this idea stays on paper. in practice i hardly ever manage to get value out of shield. for blocking projectiles – its not worth for autoatack, and for big cooldowns, i dont often notice ranged telegraphs. for blocking melee, if you need to block big melee you ara usually disabled.

Trust me theres nothing like reflecting back a rangers barrage or a warrior killshot.

As for skill 5 its amazing against every melee. When a thief tries to stealth i wait a second and pop the shield great for screwing over their backstab. Also stops warriors bull charge mace stuns ect.

And if someone wants to run from you throw it at them to stop their mobility skill like ride the lightning or warrior great sword 5 skill.

Not to mention it has a great blast finisher, and can also trigger the new rune set that puts confusion on an enemy if interrupted.

Did you miss the part where he said Spvp?

Hardly any Rangers use Longbow and very few warriors use rifles…none of them are going to have the time for killshot. That rune set is not available in SPVP and 5 can stop runners with duel pistols using glue shot.
Most of what you said seems related to WPVP but SPVP is completely different.

Overland autoattack wouldn’t be the best idea and here’s why:

Grenades are SLOOOOOW.

Necromancers constantly complain about their staff #1, guardians used to complain about their sceptre #1. Grenades are slower. They are very powerful, they have amazing AoE damage, they can work with both conditions and direct damage, but are slow. If you autoattacked, you’d never be able to hit a moving target.

TBH they are stupidly long ranged…why would you make the slowest projectile in the game have the longest range…
