its not the AoE……… Rangers only have 1 stun break which comes from a trait… stun lock kills spirit rangers, also counters necros, and its not as risky to fight thiefs lol warrior was just a counter to their comp..

Sure that stun lock with a longbow and greatsword must have been what it was. Explain this to me.
Its actually kinda funny because Super explained it after the match.

Perhaps you don’t do much pvp? Anyone who does knows that the way to beat a spirit ranger is to AOE down his spirits. That’s how you kill the effectiveness of a Spirit Ranger.

So why did a guy who played Engineer the whole time before suddenly switch to a warrior?

The meta has shifted. Engineers are no longer great as they were even in the best hands.

tPvP is a bit different… And I obviously didn’t go to pax so w/e.

The main point is stop the QQ fest we have all herd it. Engineer is a strong class overall you can’t expect it to be the best class just becaus that’s what you want.

The “issues” with the class that have been outlined are rather minor and everyone wants to make it a big deal. Lets face it your not going to pax… The issues those players have with engineer don’t even effect someone at your level. Or mine.

Some changes you should think about making.

Infused precision out you don’t need it with invigorating speed and speedy kits. You have permanent swiftness by kit swapping don’t need the proc for it.

Modified Ammo is just bad, if you want the damage increase go for rifle mod, that gives +10% damage the same as modified ammo would give if you had 5 conditions on your target but you get it all the time.

Power Wrench isn’t great. You have to think about where your damage will be coming from. Its probably not going to be the toolkit, while the reduced cooldowns are nice, its probably not worth it.

Things possibly to add

Forceful explosions is a huge difference for bomb builds. I would highly recommend this if you use bombs.

Hair trigger is probably the best in the firearms line because its 10 points which is fairly cheap and lets you use your rifle abilities more often.

IF you want survival i highly recommend Protection Injection or Backpack Regenerator both found in alchemy.

Man i had to laugh at this post!

Engineer is actually in a really good place right now. The only changes i would make would be cosmetic (hobo sacks)

Engineers have a high skill cap but once mastered they are godmode PvP and they can keep up with the top dogs of DPS in PvE.

I have an Engineer, Necromancer, Guardian & Warrior and I have to say i feel like my Engineer is tied with my Guardian in terms of PvP.

Making claims is awesome huh? Although i loved how arrogant you went about it, just like how the engineer who got to PAx changed to warrior. He did that to counter spirit ranger….your telling me he switched to a warrior because it has better AOE damage to deal with spirits?

PS: if you also want cripple u can take sitting duck and it will equal to using the warriors #2 + #4(almost) at the same time

Trait rifle? why? its bad anyway. Cripple isn’t a big deal as engineer’s can’t kite worth crap with a rifle anyway, engineer’s best kiting is easily with bombs. You want to waste skill points on a bad weapon…that’s your choice i guess.

  • Overcharged
    - launch.. too good
    - Longer range
    - cast time almost instant
    - fast projectile travel time
    - launch down players……….

using net shot at Max range or missing overcharged (not sure how that’s possible) seems to be more of a player skill issue.. js

True most of the time your so close you literally can’t miss but the skill in general is sloppy and over rated. However i do get a laugh at engineer’s who think “Its awesome damage” because its not.

LOL good one, oh wait your serious…your saying top engineers use rifles? um where? every top engineer i have seen has been pistol shield or pistol/pistol. None of them used rifles. Static discharge doesn’t exist is top level play, even remotely skilled people will wreck a glass cannon like this, he has one chance at blowing the person up, if it fails. Free kill.
Only reason warrior wouldn’t choose a rifle is because Longbow is completely OP. Rifle is not a bad weapon at all.

WvW is a form a PvE? Ok but I’m talking about GvGs that stands for guild vs guild deathmatch….. not very pve, conquest mode has more pve with trebs pve lords and circles you need to stand in. But whatever thats your opinion you are invested in conquest mode I see the R49 I get it.

Sound great, what game you playing? There is not GvG support in Gw2 except in the WvW.

It would seem that for you, the wrong “tone” is one of reason and disagreement with your opinion.

Anybody who uses “effing”, “em”, and “bah” in a single post has immediately lost all right to participate meaningfully in the discussion.

Not to mention you’re defending something that goes against the very ideas that Guild Wars 2 is trying to promote in MMOs.

Rangers are not bad, they’re amazing. My new character is a Ranger and after playing him, I feel slow and clunky on my Engineer compared to the mobility and evasion provided by Greatsword, Longbow, Lightning Reflexes, and Signet of the Hunt.

Well unlike the rest of these guys who can’t see the forest for the tree’s, I totally agree with you. Engineer has been my main since release I have tried Mesmer/Ranger/Warrior and thief….and they were all easier to do much better.

Reason most people don’t say anything is because it will be called “QQ” or “whine” but the facts speak for themselves. When necromancer got buffed you suddenly had necro’s coming out the walls because they were op….where as before you seen very few.

We are least played class for a good reason.

Neither i would scrap the talent completely. You don’t try to fix something that doens’t work if its obviously design flawed. You replace it. The proposed fix would have punished players taking full advantage of a situation.

Do you think other RNG Traits deserve changes for better reliability? If not, what would you change instead about the lesser used traits to make them more palatable?

Not when you make something that was useful and make it totally useless. Bad changes are worse than RNG because they are just nerf’s.

Do you think that Engineer is improved in gameplay with RNG procs? If so, how do you counterplay against such procs?

I would 100 times rather have procs than abilities that restricted play style. There’s no counter play to loads of thing’s in the game. There is no counter play against loads of things in the game, for instance…stealth. Wheres this idea come from you can counter everything? you clearly can’t.

Pretty much every Warrior runs some kind of variant of the Axe/Mace rotation. Some mix in the Greatsword as their secondary set. Others mix in the Sword offhand. But they all pretty much boil down to sinking 30 points into Strength for Berserker’s Power and choosing between 25 Arms + 15 Discipline to bolster their Greatsword or 30 Discipline + 10 Tactics to get Heightened Focus/Sharpened Axes.

You speak of broad strokes…you just did exactly what you criticised VIVorcha for. There are a huge amount of good builds for warrior and they are nothing like what you described.

So 0,24%? That didnt even make Anet blink.

Now I understand why they keep saying, if you are not happy about the current state of pvp you can always come back later to check out whats new. They don’t care if 0,48% takes a break, they got our box sales, as long as the other 99,52% get more content in a faster pace. We can’t blame them for that.

We can blame them though that these numbers are what Anet brought to themselves. PvP isnt big because it isnt big on the priority list either. PvP never got big enough for it’s downfall to be noticed by anyone other than the PvPers.

Fair points and pvp players don’t tend to buy things from gem shop so they have to look after where they are making money. Its just good business sense.

Yeah warriors are an underdog class…that’s obviously up to date :P

I would say it depends on play skill needed for an average performance…roughly something like this.

1) Ranger/Warrior/Necro – Pick up and play
2) Thief/Guardian/Mesmer – Will hurt for a while but once you get the basics you will do fine.
3) Elementalist / Engineer. – Average play just won’t cut it. If you play at the same level as other classes you will simply die.

This will change as skill levels increase or decrease…

Warrior doesn't counter Spirit Ranger?

GvGers are on your leader boards killing your dudes. Conquest mode promotes poor play and cheese gimmicks this is clear as you see how low the skill level is of the best pvper when put against the skill level of the best GvGers.

I would like to see a WvW player as good as Teldo or Phantarm, truth be told Wvw is about who has better AOE’s.

Blunderbuss, Overcharged Shot and Jump Shot apply Blind for 5 seconds.

Not a good change considering most of the time those abilities are used in chain, something like
Netshot>Blunderbuss>Overcharge shot> Jumpshot

This is a great idea.

Flame thrower is awesome damage when made right. I have a flamer thrower build and i rarely drop below 15 might, between the basic attack and napalm…the damage is great!

No its a stupidly explained tooltip. What it means is that you will get no NEW conditions on you when you reach 25% however existing ones will stay.

You are correct that 100% reduced would mean a condition wipe aswell in any sort of logical problem. However this is anet and they choose to defy logic.

Yeah, it’s a pretty poorly designed trait.
Hip Shot – Ok its useful here
Net shot – no damage, doesn’t benefit
Blunderbuss – 600 range traited, does more damage in melee, no benefit
Overcharged Shot – 600 range traited, no benefit
Jump Shot – Damage is melee aoe, no benefit

Pistols, ok, I can see it working here, but really does a weapon with horrible power scaling need this? Let’s see.

Explosive Shot – Benefits, but pistol 1 has .3 power scaling. And really, how many power, crit, crit damage pistol builds are there?
Poison Dart Volley – Wildly misses 75 percent of its shots beyond 600 range, no benefit really.
Static Shot – Very poor power scaling, see explosive shot.
Blowtorch – Deals more damage the closer you are, no benefit.
Glue Shot – No damage, no benefit.

Now, let’s look at kits.
Elixir Gun
Tranq Dart – Poor power scaling, no real benefit
Elixir F – Great power scaling, actual benefit
Fumigate – Even traited, cannot get enough range to benefit
Acid – Melee damage, no benefit
Super Elixir – No damage, no beneift

Bomb Kit
All skills are melee range, so no real benefit

Tool Kit
All damaging skills are melee range, no real benefit

Med Kit
Umm no lol

Flamethrower
Useful with the number 2 skill, and that is all

Grenade Kit
I can see it have a use here in pve setting

So, you have to ask yourself, is this trait really worth taking if it only really benefits one kit, and to a much lesser extent another (flamethrower)? Or, do you see it as going against anets idea behind our class design, strong mid range fighter? I see it as a poorly designed trait, but that’s just my opinion.

Nice post but Flamer 2 is only 600 range max. So it won’t work.

Just because he’s a kitten doesn’t make him any less right, a lot of top pvp’ers tend to be “rough around the edges” and if Anet uses that as an excuse to ignore his advice they’re stupider than I thought.

Guy 1 starts walking towards a cliff with a steep drop off unknowingly.

Guy 2 says “Hey f***t**d stop walking that way you’re gonna fall of a cliff moron.”

Guy 1 “Wow that is just rude why would I listen to you?”

Guy 1 falls off the cliff…

Well if Guy 2 doesn’ t learn some proper manners he can expect to have many more Guy 1 on his coscience.

Guy 2 ignores you for so long you can no longer say this somehow else, and then he will finally have a reason to ignore you forever.

Firstly crit is not a true RNG because you control how much you have, so its not completely random. If you accept this being the case then incendiary powder is also not RNG as it has 100% chance.

1) Incendiary Powder is not overpowered, or it would be killing everything. If you were to not trait IP and run with a pistol and shield…well you can check out the damage for yourself, but ill tell you its extremely poor. The worst basic attack in the game as far as the classes i have played are concerned.

3) He said it kept us relevant i would assume he meant without the IP trait out damage just goes out the window.

4) I think we only have one spec for the meta? Bunker engineer? To be honest we tend to be ignored when people talk about it.

5) Honestly, I often can’t tell. Depends what spec i am running how i do vs any class.

Why hate on spirit Rangers so much? they are beatable they are not putting out massive damage to a whole team at once, so why hate them? The answer is people hate them because they take no skill or effort to play. This means people will call for nerfs more frequently than on other OP classes and specs.

If they increased the skill floor and cap for Spirit Ranger you would see far less of them probably and I think the nerf calls would disappear completely. Generally speaking players don’t mind being outplayed and they just try to improve…when they outplay someone and lose they get angry.

Ever think that maybe Allie went on a holiday or has real life issues and the other devs are busy working on the patch. You know because people live in the real world no to just pleasure you. If the PvP co-ordinator is on holidays / real life issues then you could expect there to be a drop in dev posts.

I stood and guarded a point the whole game, never lost it. My team mates all zerged middle point and beaten every time. However because i had lowest score i was the reason we lost!

obviously you are the reason your team lost, you leave your team in a 4v5 situation, because they know that you are not going to move a tiny bit so they ignored you and that point in a whole in exchange they got 2 other points. noobs who think that picking a brainless bunker sitting on home point the whole game will actually help alot in all comp are hilarious

wow i always thought that you are ignorant, but i didn’t know that you are this ignorant. so what, one guy run of to cap their back point, while the middle point is 3v5 and lost in an instant and they only need 2 people to run back to take the home point back, NOT to mention they can always send one back while 4v3 at middle point. and as they die the team spawn is splited, situation gets worst.

Yeah, I asked him on his stream to justify some (not all, but some) of the things he said in his rant. He responded by throwing out all kinds of insults at me, and completely and utterly evading the question altogether.

He’s incredibly rude, and it’s not wonder ANet doesn’t want him coming on these forums; he’s a stain on our otherwise decent community.

Do you have any proof of this, or should we just accept your word as proof (and I might add, he seems to not be able to post here). Because in that case, it is just your PoV and honestly it seems a bit slanderous.
I have seen people posting here and seeming reasonable, but when you play with them, they are imho none of the sort. In other words: We don’t really know people in here. For all I know, you could have started out by saying something that seemed rude to him, isn’t it?

Proof is hes banned by Anet although hes a top player. I doubt they are in a rush to ban the best players in the game, also can you say you ever heard negative things about the other top players from multiple sources? while not concrete proof…i am starting to believe there’s something to it.

BC stunwarriors destroy engineers.

Engineers take 53% less damage while stunned when properly traited. I can sit inside a 100B and lose maybe 2k health because the warrior stunned me first.

Your saying 100% crit chance warrior using 100 blades only does 4k damage. LOL just sit in it anyway then. If 100 blades did 4k damage it wouldn’t be a must avoid ability.

Idk who your fighting but any decent stun warrior has unsuspecting foe.

The dual skills shouldn’t be the end all skill to use for everything.

It should have 2 of 3 things, atleast for Larcenous.

1. Damage
2. Utility
3. Defense

It can lose number 1 and still be very good, free dodge and boon steal which is huge and a little bit of dmg, then if you want to do dmg, sit there and use auto’s that’s what they’re there for.

Either that or it loses one of the other things.

Yes – Its easy can first time stomp
No – Prepare to take a truck load of damage.

Downed? Totally depends which class you play, if your playing a Ranger, Necromancer or Mesmer your probably thinking its totally fine.
If you play say an engineer or warrior you probably aren’t so thrilled.

In other mmo’s thieves don’t have to actively avoid all damage, and don’t have most of their strongest moves tied to stealth. In those games, stealth is designed to be purely as an openner. In guild wars, stealth is designed as mindgame trick at the core of thief’s combat style, not unlike Mesmer clones. Stealth is to be used to reposition and flank your opponent, but it is also warning that a powerful hit is coming. Clever opponents win the mindgame, those that refuse to awknowledge it get punished for thier ignorance.

Stealth isn’t designed for openers? so your saying back stab isn’t one of the biggest hits in the game?
In other games your right they don’t have to dodge damage or use evades..oh wait they don’t in guild wars 2 either because its easier just to stealth again, which removes conditions and heals you. You can’t be attacked because they enemy can’t target you…now if you get caught in an AOE how is that NOT your fault.
Its nothing to do with a mind game, mesmer has clones, ignore them and kill the player.

In other games thieves don’t have to evade because the coding says that attack missed because evade statistics. In GW2 a hit is a hit, and stealth does absolutely nothing to cushion that hit. A thief facetanking 100blades while visible will take just as much damage as a thief facetanking 100blades while invisible. The condi-removal on stealth is decent but can be overwhelmed easily by any class that can stack more then one condition (see engie and necro). If you haven’t figured out how to fight without a target you’re hopeless. All melee weapons in this game do not require a target. (If you’re skilled enough you’d also notice that projectiles don’t require a target either)
And you’ve just described the solution to the mind game of the mesmer. /facepalm
Identifying the real mesmer and attacking him/her.
The mind game for stealth is being ready to react. Protip, don’t blow your cooldowns when a dodge will do.

Backstab isn’t the biggest hit in the game, there are other skills that hit harder, especially if backstab is improperly aimed. Also being a single hit which has can only hit once, it’s able to be recovered from by anyone who knows what they’re doing.

Are you daft? Evade in Guild Wars 2 doesn’t just happen. You have to actually evade. In Wow, the game decides for you if you evade. The Rogue player just stands there tanking like warrior, the Thief player reads the enemy’s tells and dodge rolls. One is automatic and one is manual.

Your right if Wow was like GW2 dodge would have been tied to sinister strike and called evade.
You spam your attacks and evade automatically.

You get many cry babies in here about stealth but I wonder if they ever considered:

1.) Stealth is damage mitigation as is armor. (
2.) The stealth classes get few health points and really lousy (non-existent) armor.
3.) Armor never needs to be activated.
4.) Armor never has a cooldown.
5.) Their is no special “no-armor” trap or effect on siege like stealth has.
6,) The armor classes get AOE damage and CC that hits stealthed players.
7.) Want to CC an armor wearer…sorry nope…they have a skill for that.
8.) Oh you crit them…so it ignored the armor….wrong…there is no counter for armor.
9.) Well they move slowly because of the armor…nope
10.) A person is “blinded” and can’t hit the target they can partially see except for AOE’s. Stealth…no such luck…can’t be seen the guy at all…yet you hit each and every swing. Yippeee…

Just pointing out things them whiners never consider.

1) Stealth is avoidance not mitigation
2) I hear toughness and vitality have something to do with that.
3) Armor doesn’t allow you to regenerate.
4) Armor doesn’t remove conditions.
5) There is conditions.
6) It only effects stealth players…being invisible with teleport’s must be difficult.
7) Really? whats that? stability has nothing to do with armor. Elementalist can get it too. You can also still stun them or you could use your brain and steal the boons…just a thought.
8) Conditions ignore armor. Really…
9) Yeah and being in stealth should slow you to a crawl…
10) Don’t really understand blind do you? He can’t see you in stealth…how is blind relevant?

All these points are just funny.

In other mmo’s thieves don’t have to actively avoid all damage, and don’t have most of their strongest moves tied to stealth. In those games, stealth is designed to be purely as an openner. In guild wars, stealth is designed as mindgame trick at the core of thief’s combat style, not unlike Mesmer clones. Stealth is to be used to reposition and flank your opponent, but it is also warning that a powerful hit is coming. Clever opponents win the mindgame, those that refuse to awknowledge it get punished for thier ignorance.

In other games your right they don’t have to dodge damage or use evades..oh wait they don’t in guild wars 2 either because its easier just to stealth again, which removes conditions and heals you. You can’t be attacked because they enemy can’t target you…now if you get caught in an AOE how is that NOT your fault.
Its nothing to do with a mind game, mesmer has clones, ignore them and kill the player.

In other games thieves don’t have to evade because the coding says that attack missed because evade statistics. In GW2 a hit is a hit, and stealth does absolutely nothing to cushion that hit. A thief facetanking 100blades while visible will take just as much damage as a thief facetanking 100blades while invisible. The condi-removal on stealth is decent but can be overwhelmed easily by any class that can stack more then one condition (see engie and necro). If you haven’t figured out how to fight without a target you’re hopeless. All melee weapons in this game do not require a target. (If you’re skilled enough you’d also notice that projectiles don’t require a target either)
And you’ve just described the solution to the mind game of the mesmer. /facepalm
Identifying the real mesmer and attacking him/her.
The mind game for stealth is being ready to react. Protip, don’t blow your cooldowns when a dodge will do.
