Are you playing a heavy character or medium armor character? Pretty much all of the armors look the same up to level 15-20ish except for the light armor classes.

You had some really good ideas and then blew them all with a blanket statement to remove the condition limit.

Why? Unlike what most people mistakenly think, the condition limit IS NOT in place for balance reasons, but for technical ones. A group of a few hundred characters in a world meta event for example could lay down literally millions of conditions, and the server couldn’t handle tracking that many timers simultaneously.

And they’re actively testing a work-around for the condition stack limits as we speak, they could be fixed in any patch now. That dream patch-note is just as, if not more likely, than any of the others.

Engineers now have a ‘kit slot’, where the second weapon slot is for most classes. They may place any kit here excepting the medical kit.

You mean instead of being able to equip kits in the 7-9 slots? If so, then an emphatic NO. What benefit would this serve? This would destroy multi-kitting just to be able to take…more elixirs or gadgets? I don’t understand this. Also, would you want the standard weapon-swap cooldown too? Cuz now you’re just nerfing the Engi for no reason. Please explain.

No, I meant being able to equip kits in the kit slot in addition to the utility slots. This would fix our weapon swap problem and it would make turret builds viable as you could now have a wrench out and a full suite of turrets.

I’ve suggested this several times, the only argument I’ve heard against it is ‘You can’t give a engineers more than one class mechanic! It’s unfair!‘, to which I respond, the Thief’s three class mechanics would like a word with you…

Engineers now have a ‘kit slot’, where the second weapon slot is for most classes. They may place any kit here excepting the medical kit.

Engineers can now use hammers.

Necro Wells have had their CDs slightly lowered. The Necro staff 1 attack has increased missile speed. Power scaling on the Axe has been slightly increased.

Power scaling has been improved on Life Blast, it scales much further up at full life force, and down more at low life force. The missile speed on Dark Path has been greatly increased.

Cantrips now have slightly higher CDs (my main is an ele, and we really need this to bring our bunker builds in line before ANet does something really stupid to our dagger skills like what they did with RTL)

Dragon’s tooth is ground targeted, both flamestrike and stoneshards have slightly higher condition durations.

Static Field is now much larger, and lightning strikes periodically within the area. CD slightly increased. Ice spike is now a blast finisher.

Greater and lesser elementals can now attack while moving.

Ranger pets now have an active dodge skill.

Scaling on the ranger sword and dagger has been improved.

More ranger pets have been added.

Each race now has necro minions, engi turrets, and guardian weapons unique to their race.

The Norn Spirit forms can now attack while moving

The asura Golem skills and Power Suit can attack while moving.

NEW CULTURAL ARMORS FOR EVERYONE! YAY!

No more condition stacks limits

Tornado and Plague form now have a buff called intangible, which mitigates some damage from melee and a great amount of damage from ranged weapon attacks.

In fact, let’s just make a blanket declaration that all spammable skills can now be used while moving, because a basic attack that requires you to stand still is always going to be useless against one that allows you to move.

Bounties can be fun, but often frustrating

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

My guild just failed three bounties in a row in the space of an hour because of Komali. We had him scouted all three times and started the fight immediately, we even found and fought him a second time two of the times we failed. That’s five times, in an hour, and yes we knew the mechanics and were doing the fight properly. We weren’t even having problems staying alive, it just wasn’t possible to kill him in the time allotted because we couldn’t get him off his shield frequently enough, the frequency at which he reapplies his shield scales up with players. At 40+ or more players, it’s literally down for a matter of microseconds before he reapplies stability and hops back on his shield.

Armor set is:

Beginner necro mask
SE pauldrons
HOTW chest
CoF gloves
TA pants
TA feet
Colors are: Midnight Ice and white dyes.

Weapons are: fused greatsword (working on getting The Crossing)

That is the most terrifying Minnie Mouse I’ve ever seen.

It looks cool, But, those pauldrons look like doo doo. Not on YOU, specifically. Just in general. To ME, anyway :/

Haha, no offense taken. I actually love those pauldrons so much that I basically built the entire armor set around them, they’re where the whole ‘armor wearing battlemage’ idea came from. To me, they look both mystical but at the same time practical. I’ve always hated ‘traditional’ mages, like in D&D. I love mages like those in Sabriel or the Shadow War Chronicles if you’ve ever read those.

I just wish I could dye the red parts on the lanterns and the blue parts on the chains… they would look soooo cool as a mystical blue/green…

EDIT: And just so I don’t drag the thread off-topic, here’s my primary alt, still working oh her armor and missing a few pieces, and not entirely decided on a few others, here’s what I want it to look like currently, minus the dyes.

Wrong subforum but to answer your question.

No there is none. You have to use transmutation stones.

Yeah, it is unrecoverable

No

Your last answer is not quite true.

While it will be soulbound to the character you use it on, you can use the transmute to white workaround to make it account bound.

This shouldn’t work anymore.

Still works, no idea why so many people seem to think that it shouldn’t, the only transmutation changes listed in the patch notes have been for legendaries. And the devs have never stated that it’s an exploit or that they intend to remove it, in fact they’ve even given the OK on it when it comes to transmuting faction gear.

I think there are more pressing issues to be fixed before adding more weapons most people won’t attain.

While I don’t normally agree with this line of thought, as content design and live content fixes are handled by two different teams with two different skillsets, I do in this case because there is no reason to add content that remains out of the reach of nearly the entire playerbase. The design team is never going to do bug-fixes, they couldn’t if they wanted to, but if they’re going to add content almost anything would be better than more RNG no-lifer trophy content. If they make more legendaries, it better be after they implement the precursor scavenger hunt.

Rox, the Charr

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Conncept.7638

Conncept.7638

Hi, everyone. The team has been following the spirited discussion about Rox (and Braham). I just wanted to pop in with a note from our Lead Character Artist so he can provide some background information and clarity about the art direction for Rox.

Aaron Coberly, Lead Character Artist

Hey everyone, this is Aaron Coberly, the Lead Character Artist here on Guild Wars 2. I can see that there are a lot of strong feelings about the design decisions for Rox so I wanted to come on and set the record straight. The goal with Rox was to expand the charr’s visual options. She is a young charr so we thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce the cute kitty cat end of the spectrum. This isn’t a change of direction but an expansion of the race. Our goal is to add more variety to all of the races over time and we saw this as a good opportunity to do this with the female charr. The charr are a feline race, which gives us a lot of options—from the grizzled matronly lioness to the strong puma and even the cute house cat. We don’t want to limit our options to just one section of the feline genus. Our designs are inspired by all the feline variety that exists in nature.

Further on down the road, it does mean that if we introduce new faces into character creation, they will include a broader range. Does that mean that this particular face will be in there? No, because she is a main character, but there could be a cute kitty cat style face.

Hope that information helps you all understand the thinking behind Rox’s appearance.

Can we please have some meaner faces too?

Have you not created a Charr character? Some of those faces couldn’t look more mean if their muzzles were dripping blood.

Well how else are they suppose to make money as it has no monthly charge not that i bought any but just saying

They could just get rid of the stupid gold->gems conversion, and then sell things in the shop that people actually want to buy for real money, knowing that they will actually be bought with real money.

The idea behind gems to gold was that it would kill the gold-seller market, and it failed, abysmally; in fact it made gold-selling worse than I’ve ever seen it in any other game, because it literally gave the in-game currency a proportionate real-world value.

but then they wouldn’t (as much) make money.

Personally I believe the opposite will happen. There are two ends to manufacturing economics.

One is that you make your product so good that if anybody wants that product, yours is the one they want, and you profit from that reputation of quality, you will spend more but make more off each unit as a result.

The second is that you make your product as cheap as possible, and flood the market with it, people will buy it because it’s easy and cheap, and you will profit because you are spending so little to make it.

With the games development, they clearly followed the first venue, this game is high quality, no details missed, unique, everything you want in a luxury product. But since release, with every gem-store and item addition, it’s leaned heavily towards the second. You buy an RNG item which is almost guaranteed to be low-quality, and you are required to buy TONS of them just to get the high-quality item that players are attracted by.

This isn’t working, they already have over four million people they know want high-quality items and are willing to pay for them, because that many players already bought the game. But very few of those four million are buying into the gem store, because it’s not aiming for them as a market, it’s aiming for people that the game doesn’t attract. The RNG chest bit does fine in F2P grinder MMOs because that is what the playerbase in a free grinder MMO is looking for. It is not at all appealing to the market which GW2 has attracted.

They need to monetize for their audience, doing so will increase their profits, players want a straight price for a good quality product and will pay for it, they will not pay for this low-brow market flooding garbage.

Is 40 supposed to be a magic number or something?

No, it’s a joke on how the RNG from black lion chests for these new weapon skins is just a pathetic money-grubbing attempt from arena net.

NCSOFT, technically. Most anything having to do with monetization is handled by them (or more specifically, a monetization specialist placed by NCSOFT), while the remainder of the game design is handled by Anet.

True on this, but apparently Arena Net can’t handle the rest of their game either. In terms of balances and updates. I really wonder how much hate they’re getting. You know they’re not gonna do a kitten thing about it though because “lol we got paid for your purchase already.”

I really don’t think NCSofts meddling is as bad as some people think, I doubt it’s reached beyond the game economics and monetization. That may seem far fetched, but there are certain developers at ANet that would undoubtedly leave in a second if NCSoft ever overstepped certain bounds, and they haven’t. But if we ever see an unexplained massive exodus of GWs senior developers, we’ll know why.

If there are mistakes made, they’re most likely ANet’s (no matter how much we’d like to pin them on NCSOFT). But that’s pretty understandable in my opinion, this isn’t only a new game it’s practically a new genre of MMO.

I would even prefer they take it even farther, and make it a much more common buff which grants 2.5% increased skill speed per stack. They they can have normal abilities which grant you some quickness and ultimates which grant more without the stupid drawbacks and horrible balance.

Elementalist
-Staff Air has been revamped to be more high single-target damage based, staff earth has been revamped to with extra CC effects at close range.
-Scepter has been buffed just about everywhere, Dragon’s claw is now ground targeted.
-Cantrip skills durations have been slightly reduced because of their bunker power.
-A new masterwork trait in the fire/water/earth/air trees which lowers the CD and damage of that specific tree. Does not stack with the arcane tree.
-Elemental AI greatly improved, elementals can attack while moving.
-New boon ‘intangible’ applied to tornado form
-Ele weapons ‘replace’ whichever attunement you have out when you equip them for the duration.
-Glyph of Renewals recharge has been nearly halved, the cast times have been slightly reduced. And the skill now works with ground targeting or nearest downed ally. Will no longer go on full CD if there is no target in range.

Mesmer
-Invisibility has been removed from the utility skills and replaced with a shuffle ability, which randomly switches you and your clones placement. A trait is available to heal clones upon shuffling.
-Clones now mimic your weapon abilities and movements, even weapon swapping.

Necromancer
-Minion AI greatly improved
-Flesh Golem now has an underwater form
-New boon ‘intangible’ applied to plague form, additionally plague form now applies ‘plague’, a condition which causes other conditions to persist and spread to nearby allies.
-Power scaling on life blast greatly increased
-Staff auto-attack now homes on its target
-Different pet skins for each race

Engineer
-The devs have finally come to there senses and given the engineer weapon swapping, which never made any bleeding sense in the first place.
-Different Turret skins for each race.
-Engineers can now use hammers
-Grenades are now only thrown one at a time, but their damage and AoE size is greater, equaling out, now throws two while traited.
-The Elixir guns healing has been tuned down slightly, but all of it’s conditions are now applied for a much greater amount of time.
-Flamethrowers Air Blast is replaced with Explosive Exhaust, a charge attack which leaves a burning trail. Additionally, Flame Jet can now damage up to five targets and it’s cone size has been increased.
-The tool kit now has a trait which places and picks up a rifle turret when equipped and unequipped. The cooldown is the same as the actual rifle turret and can be seen as an icon on the boon/cond bar.
-The rocket turret now fires more frequently and the projectile is faster the farther away it’s target is. It prioritizes the most distant target unless it’s owner has a current target.

Ranger
-Longbow firing rate slightly increased
-Pet AI greatly improved
-Pets now have an on-command dodge

Thief
- Revealed now works differently (see below)
- Thieves have a masterwork trait which causes inflicting blind to remove revealed.
- Thieves can now use maces

Warrior
- Banners may now be traited to cause a combo field when placed with a 45 second cooldown. Banner of defense causes ice, banner of discipline causes lightning, banner of strength causes fire, and banner of tactics causes water.
- Signet of might grants Power and Condition Damage
- Condition scaling on the sword slightly improved
- Dual shot may now be traited to triple shot

Guardian
- Blocks now work differently
- Sanctuary is no longer a light field, shield of absorption is no longer a light field. Symbols are only light fields if traited.
- Many of the bunker guardian nerfs since released have been reversed because of the changes to blocking and condition removal.

Other
-Condition caps have been removed.
-All conditions now deal some damage, depending on their utility
-Intangible is a new boon used on many transformation elites. Each time a damage source deals damage to the intangible character more than once, a stack of intangible is gained, reducing damage per stack for the duration of the transformation.
-Revealed now lasts until line of sight is broken.
-ALL classes now have dual wield skills
-The precision on Berserker gear has been tuned down just slightly
-BL kits now separate an item into sigil/runes, a certain percentage of raw materials, and a skin which can be reapplied.
- Added build slots to the hero screen, allowing you to switch between three sets of armor, weapons, and traits. More slots can be purchased in the gem store.
- Blocks can now be interrupted by control effects, but the damage from the interrupting skill will still be blocked.

It’s an animation issue, a HUGE one. If you want a cape that sits flat on your back like a board and either disappears or clips everytime you move, sure, that can be done. If you want one that doesn’t look ugly as sin… and actually moves with your character like most of the games other armor pieces, that’s a problem.

The movements for a cape for dodgerolling alone would be an astronomical undertaking for any team of animators, and it would look ridiculous even if done correctly. Not to mention all the other animations in the game that are even more complicated.

Cloth simulations.
- They made capes for GW1. It is not so complicated that it shouldn’t have been implemented since launch, I’d say.

I’m not saying it isn’t possible, it very much is. But unless people are willing to pay fifty bucks for a cape there’s no way it will be worth the development time, especially in a graphics engine that makes GW1 look like an Atari game. Unless of course, they cheapen the animations in comparison with the rest of the game’s armor, personally I don’t even consider that an option and I bet the developers don’t either.

The current male norn bodytype is in no way pleasing and downright goofy lookign wearing anything but heavy armor, and event hent he armor has to be huge and downright a walking bulwark to look right on such a frame.

I agree that all the norn body types are over the top Hulk status, although not to be rude what does the Norn body type have anything to do with Rox the Charr

It pinpoints the same thing, the same issue…that the characters do not resemble the current designs. Rox is this cute anime looking thing and Braham is a normal looking individual that isn’t all hulked out. People pointing at one and ignoring the other shows how normal one looks and how out of proportion the actual version we can play is, while how much the other is way out of proportion with what is expected.

Fair enough statement retracted and new statement added,

You can get the Rox Look in the game now. I haven’t really tried to look through the Norn but I swore there was a skinnier norn frame but I am not sure so I Will leave that out.

There’s a skinny norn frame, two actually, one more toned and angular and one a little softer and less defined. And I’m pretty sure that’s the frame Braham is using, not a human counterpart.

I was soloing around WvW as a condition elementalist (back when you could do that without being ganked by a culling abuser every 1.5 seconds) and I was taking down a dolyak, I see the lag cloud of what I know to be a zerg approaching from over a nearby hill. Obviously rushing to save the Dolyak.

Instead of running, I switch to earth attunement and continue to hit the dolyak until I know it has enough bleeds to ensure it’s death, and then I step away from it, put on my protection spells, and and hit /dance. And they of course attack me instead of condition clearing the dolyak, and it bleeds to death just before I go down… :P

Wish I could have said ‘Way to go guys! You sure got me.’

Where do I find bar brawl?

The bar brawl achievements are implemented since wintersday, but, when will we be able to play it? I don’t understand that procedure. Thanks for any infos :-)

They might be making changes to it, it was stated by a dev that Bar Brawl would encourage ‘point-sniping’, which caused a pretty big outcry by the community.

Is Anet gonna put in a dual class system?

I hope not, they can do better than a dual class system. A prestige class system for example would be awesome.

lol with those fanboys. If you don’t like something you PAY for, you have the right to express your opinion. If the owner disagree, then the owner is free to return the expended money.

Making a complaint about a product you paid for and didn’t like is perfectly fine. Hanging around that products place of business and/or existing customers for seven months and whining about it is pitiably obsessive.

They really need to add urgency costs in to the game, this is getting ridiculous.

Take downed out of WvW & PvP

Disagree, the downed state adds a lot to gameplay. BUT it is true that some classes just have a ridiculously good downed state while others might as well have a suicide button, this needs to be changed.

Can we wait on the stealth nerf?

Somewhat off-topic question. I missed the interview and can’t find a place to watch it, anybody that can help with that?

EDIT: And don’t say ‘google’, I’ve already googled it and all I can find are old interviews.

I think mesmers need to be nerfed

Learn to dodge and you will be fine. Having awareness in team fights is important. If you dont have it you are going to get burst.

Good advice, but not enough in my opinion. How many dodges can you have? And then of course, there’s the question of what you’re supposed to do when you’ve finally mowed down the clones (and cleared all the conditions off yourself) only for the mesmer to stealth away or put them all back up again.

Between clones, stealth, reflection, retaliation, invulnerability, blocks, blinds, and interrupts; the mesmer has too many defensive mechanics. They are the only class that has common access to literally every defensive mechanic in the game; and then of course they have clones, which alone is probably the best defensive mechanic, or at the very least on par with stealth. Which they also have.

They need to lose something to be brought in line.

My personal preference is stealth, you should not nearly kill yourself working your way through a wall of clones, only to see that the mesmer wasn’t even among them in the first place. That’s just poorly designed play.

Make it lore friendly and a one time accountwide item and I think it would be interesting.

I think he’s talking PvP, which doesn’t really need to follow the lore all that closely.

Getting HoM skins without playing GW1?

I barely played GW1, didn’t like it much, and I wouldn’t be okay with this. It’s a reward for being a long-time fan. It would be nice if they did add skins that fill a similar aesthetic, but not the exact same skins, that would be unfair.
