I fear my system will just melt into nothing. Unless the fix specificly targets WvW.
I love the people who just have it in their head the guesting has nothing to do with it. IT DOES…PERIOD! Might not be THE reason. But it has never been a problem before guesting and the new patches. The new loot from chests or whatever, coupled with guesting is the reason.
Get over yourselves and think for a change
You’ll not find anyone saying guesting doesn’t contribute, but stop dilluding yourself it is a tiny fraction of the problem. Guesting was implented before the loot changes and worked fine. Now that the boss events give much better loot though it is suddenly the fault of guesting that people get thrown in overflow. Stop kidding already most of your server is going for the easy loot. So yes stop blaming guesting. Suggest using Occam’s razor when looking at the problem. if your server has LA overflow on a regular bases than wouldn’t it be just as likely that events on a server where guilds keep informing their community the events are active will cause an overflow as well.
Let’s do some simple math.
3 million players, 51 servers, boss that drops fat loot in zone that holds less than 500 people…..Guesting is not the issue here.
It would be ridiculous to suggest that guesting isn’t, at the very least, making the problem worse than it would otherwise be.
I mean, if you want to be simple let’s be simple. People are complaining that they can’t participate in events on their home server without being pushed to overflow. Meanwhile, there are people at those events on said home server who are guests. Those are spots being taken up, which means more home residents getting pushed to overflow, which means more people on here complaining about it.
That’s pretty simple.
Ok go get some air and read this.
Guesting adds very few to the boss fight. The reason you are in overflow is because ALOT of people are there. If guesting was off you would still get in overflow because you waited till the boss was up to teleport in. People who wait get the loot. People who don’t often don’t. Yes Guesting takes a few spots away but if your not willing to wait for it your not worthy of the spot.
Some of you are acting like it’s difficult to see the problem in action. It’s not. When you’re at an event and some of your friends are stuck in overflow, and you put forth the question in chat “how many of you here are guesting to this server/event?” and more than half of the people present respond “me” … it’s pretty obvious where a lot of the potential slots for full-time residents are going.
This isn’t rocket science. Instead of speculating here on the forum, start investigating out there in the game.
No it’s not difficult to see the problem, though for some it clearly is. It is NOT guesting. Get over that. The issue is the loot you get from these events that makes people go from boss event to boss event for a few rares. Disabling guesting would not make the problem go away. It won’t even make it that much less. Your massive overexaggeration of half the people saying me does not make it true that there are that many people guesting.
People will spread around again once the loot from other sources is on par with these chests. Until then have fun in overflow caused by your own server’s population. Guesting is just a scapegoat being used by those that don’t see the bigger picture.
The experienced players are playing with each other and a large portion of them refuses to teach new people. So you lack a steady stream of new experienced people.
This is a result of the: Experienced only, 80 only, full exotics only, wars and mes groups only. I’d say people reap what they sow.
not a 1:1 Deal. Farming Ecto’s on GW1 is way faster and twice as easy as GW2. i need alot of GW1 Ecto for Gw2 Ecto’s just cause the fact no one really plays GW1 anymore and GW2 is really costly combated to GW1.
It’s not 1:1 no, but it’s the other way around. You need to give a lot more gw2 ecto for 1 gw1 ecto. I’d say minimum 10 gw2 : 1 gw1.
You’ll find that a vast majority of people who have participated in this discussion are strongly in favor of a Canthan expansion sooner rather than later, including one of the developers themselves. Most people seem to be really disappointed and angered by how it has been handled so far.
And how many have not bothered to post and don’t care one bit about Cantha. If it never makes it into GW2 then fine by me. It was the worst of the standalones. The only people who are disappointed are those that have a vested interest in Cantha. The rest simply does not care.
True and false. Maybe the rest doesn’t care or maybe they do but aren’t willing to post or maybe the majority of players don’t use the forums and/or aren’t aware of cantha not making it into the game. The rest is your oppinion.
On closer inspection you will find, Shanna is right, the majority of posters in this thread is in favor of cantha. Nothing more has been said.
Of course most in this thread will agree with what is being said, hence vested interest. I don’t need any closer inspection for that. This isn’t a debate thread between two opposite sides, but a congregation of like minded people. Well sorry to burst your bubble, you are a minority.
And for the record I didn’t say all people who didn’t post don’t care about cantha as you seem to think I said. “The only people who are disappointed are those that have a vested interest in Cantha.” That means both that post here and those that don’t.
I want a gameworld that makes sense and adding Cantha sinply does not make sense at this point in time. No matter how much you want it included. You have Jormag in the North, Kralkatorrik in the East, Primordius who knows where. Bubbles somewhere in the ocean, most likely that same ocean between Tyria and Cantha. Finally there is the 6th unknown dragon. We are in chapter one and you guys want to skip to chapter ten.
Isn’t it so easy just to blame guesting. How do you know it was your own server population that flocked en masse to the event?
I guess everyone’s under the impression using the term “no-lifer” implies you have no life?
Just using it in the sense of no-lifing the game in a sarcastic sense. “Yeah man, I need to get a life. Haha.” Regardless, just don’t have many classes this semester, so I kill time on GW2.Alternatives to do while you have so much free time:
> Find a job
> Study
> find a girlfriend
> find a place to live
> find a place to party
> find friends
> introduce friends, girlfriend and colleagues into gw2
> play gw2 with newfound friends, girlfriend and colleaguesFurthermore I know from first hand experience that having not many classes is usually due to failing the year before, often influenced by a videogame. I would strongly recommend breaking that habit if you eventually want to get your degree.
Don’t recall this being a “Misguidedly and Naively Try to Tell Someone How to Live” thread, so I’d go ahead and leave, my friend.
I don’t think the problem people have is keeping up with you. Mull that over for a bit.
Got to love fake morality. you can’t kill those poor bunnies. Our children will learn to be cruel to animals that way, but sure go ahead and kill human(oids). They won’t turn into serial killers from that…

Not going to read the entire thread so probably already mentioned, but why didn’t they spread out the different levels through out the research levels.
Research level 2 of Art of War grants Guild Bounty 1
Research level 4 of Art of War grants Guild Bounty 2
Research level 6 of Art of War grants Guild Bounty 3
Research level 2 of Economy grants Guild Trek 1

Research level 6 of Politics grants Guild Rush
Research level 6 of Architecture grants Guild Puzzle
This would have given both smaller and larger guilds access to the content. Sure not all of the content would be accessible to smaller guilds, but they would not feel so much left behind and neglected as now.
1) Alternate Gameplay could get you any item in GW1. Nothing was locked between a time gate or a specific instance, you could buy / trade for anything you could reach. One could argue that the act of forging FoW armor required you to go to FoW and complete one quest to access the forge itself, but that is shallow compared to the requisite to run Fractals repeatedly or any of the other gates.
You seem to have missed my title track portion of the post. I was pretty much forced to run ABs/Jade Quarry to increase my effectiveness of Save Yourselves. Gear wasn’t the only way to increase your character’s effectiveness.
All GW1 heros had max level armor when your character was at max level. In addition, hero armor functioned as infused without having to make an ‘infusion run.’
Yes, but you could make them even more effective through insignias and runes. That is the definition of vertical progression. GW1 had it.
Except the title tracks were not mandatory. Only elitists demanded high rank titles. The content was just as accessible without the PvE only skills. As for insignias and runes. They were plateau’d. once you got them you could not get higher and those upgrades existed from the start. Insignias only got put in to make it so people were not stuck using one specific armor set if they wanted to use certain upgrades.
Key part here is once you reached the top you were done. That’s why it is horizontal.
(2) Ensure that the ACTUAL guild missions are capable of down-scaling to small guilds (3, 4, 5 players) so that small guilds are actually physically able to complete the objectives. It’s okay to scale down rewards slightly so that there is an incentive for epic snowballing with dozens upon dozens of players, but do not create a “haves”/“have-nots” situation. Right now, the perception is that small guilds have NO ability to either access or complete the content.
(3) Immediately open strong, transparent dialogue that actually engages the real concerns of the community. It is crucial to accept that the way consumers will use the product will vary from how developers intended it. Ultimately, developer expectations that stay in Washington are irrelevant to the experience and dignity of players around the world who are having tremendously different experiences.
(4) Engage the community in a constructive, serious manner to seek input and solutions. Do not discount the community’s ideas because they are different from notions during development of “how things should pan out.” These are irrelevant. The customer experience is.
I sincerely hope that one or more persons in positions of influence or power within ANet will take the time to read through this analysis and consider its points seriously. I have made the decision to take the developers seriously. I hope that they will extend the same courtesy to their player base.

Anet devs I dare you to counter his posts without just sweeping it under the rug. I bet you can’t. Sadly I see this being completely ignored just like the ascended gear opposition was ignored. Creating a game with blinders and headphones on seem to be the norm here.
The problem gauging the playerbase in GW2 is simple. In pretty much every other Themepark MMO you have a lot of people at the start and the majority at the end with a desolate middle. This is not the case in GW2 due to downscaling. Any zone is relevant for a level 80 character. This means people will be a lot more spread out instead of in 4-5 areas as it is in other Themepark MMOs.
Furthermore with the game not having a subscription fee, some people feel less inclined to log in to get their monies worth. They still play but might skip an evening here and there.
This just makes it hard to say if the population is going down or not. It feels like the population is down, but without solid numbers to back it up it remains a feeling, which could very well be wrong.
Today I was bored and decided to torment the jp mesmers on top of the puzzle. I’m sure a few of them got really frustrated having to redo the entire thing multiple times. Good fun.
The thing is that since there is no built in game tool to form a group, you either have to be in the map the dungeon is in (and that limits you to the people in your server), in LA (again, limits you to the people in your server), or focusing your browser.
The people whispering you to form a group are the ones who probably doing the daily in ORR and want to do CoF, but they want to continue the daily while the group isn’t ready.
They see that you LFG and try their luck.
I think it’s them being lazy to start the group themselves.
Not to split hairs, but isn’t that true about the ones using lfg instead lfm as well
Nothing that is being said is going to change the narrow-mindedness of those that want 80 only groups and or specific classes. Of course it is not their fault and blame their actions on anything but themselves.
I’m going to run this marathon, but all you do is run so I’m going to use a shortcut, because running is just boring.
Since we are doing analogies here, then i guess you would find very fun and entertaining if the entire Olympic Games would be just marathons. Nothing else… just this.
Except it wouldn’t be accurate now would it. You know this, but feel the need to justify your cheating.
The Olympic Games would be the entire game. Dungeon running would be 1 event AKA marathon.
Someone pointed out Mossman. Despite him being a fairly easy boss (follow the minimap and poke him with your shortbow when(/if) he goes out of stealth (I play a thief)), when someone showed me a new “exploit”, I was overjoyed. Why?
Well, he’s just very poorly designed. 10 second stealths (where he is invulnerable) followed by a oneshot attack, and 3 seconds of visibility (if we’re lucky), then 10 more seconds of stealth, etc etc. Without the exploit, he takes anywhere from 20 minutes (that’s perfect play), to an hour, and it’s not challenging and nor is it fun. It’s just tedious. So of course, when someone showed me a new exploit, I tried it. And every time I run fractals and Mossman with a pick-up group, I’m extremely tempted to suggest that we exploit just because of the poor design of the boss.
I’m going to run this marathon, but all you do is run so I’m going to use a shortcut, because running is just boring.
People what he was doing is not important, nor is where he was. The fact of the matter he is pointing out a gamedesign flaw where if you get invited to party yet decline while inside a dungeon will get you kicked out.
Now the OP could have emphasized the problem and not the cause more.
So unfortunately, the Slayer ones can be re-achieved by just playing the game. However, The Gold Hoarder, Overkill, i hope are on the fix it list.
So while the “To clarify, I am not telling you the solution is to go out and do them all again, just that when a solution does come about you will regain those points.” statement is comforting, i THINK the Slayer points may not be given back, because i THINK by then, many may have already reclaimed some or all of them by the time a fix rolls around.
So i will wait by playing more and expect a fix to the Gold Hoarder and Overkill achievement tiers.
While overkill can be hard for some classes it should be doable if you have a level 80. Go to southsun cove with highest singletarget, singleshot dps character. stack anything that gives you higher dps and go attack white critters. Took me about 5 crabs before I got it again.
Daily kill Variety achievement bugged too? I killed all kind of mobs all day and still 0 for Daily Kill Variety.Anyone else got to 0 too ?
Because most likely you are looking at tomorrow’s daily. Check your clock/date settings.
As for the achievements I redid all the ones I lost. Included were a lot of slayer ones, the gold hoarder, overkill and some weaponmaster ones. waiting for anet to fix this will no doubt take a while.
The better question here is how did they mess up a routine maintenance in such a way that people lost achievements
The problem with dueling i not the dueling itself, but the whining that will start afterwards when class A can’t beat classes BCDEFGH and demands buffs or nerfs. Almost no MMO is based around class balance and it wouldn’t be pretty when they tried. It’s based on group balance.
So dueling is always a big no no for me when people ask for it to be implented in a game.
Not really a jumping “puzzle”,
I hate the term Jumping Puzzle. It really only applies to about 20% of them. I’ve always called them Jumping Challenges which covers the scope of what they offer.
Also, I hope we’ll get to be our own characters :’(
I anticipated that most people would want to be their characters, and wouldn’t want to lose the look they’ve worked so hard to achieve, so I made sure we would not transform you into something else. Just don’t expect to be your normal size.
Maybe someone already mentioned it somewhere, but I’m sure people would also like to have the option to do it at normal size as they will have grown accustomed to it if it is their main.
Problem with magic find is it doesn’t affect chest drops and mob drops in dungeons are so low anyways that 100% of 0.01% is still crap yet you are handicapping yourself, your group and making the run take longer thus limiting your potential to run more dungeons in the same amount of time.
Except when your MF % comes out of a defensive stat budget. Then you are just more glass with the same amount of cannon, placing emphasis on smart play and skill use. The idea that MF is intrinsically selfish and hinders a group is preposterous unless pugging.
OT- I love every idea brought up so far.
Hardly preposterous, if you are running less defensive than you will take less risk. So you will play it safe and not get that one extra hit in because you know you can’t take one hit yourself. It’s not smarter or more skilled to dodge out early.
I don’t mind harder content but as long as it doesn’t come at the price of segregating the playerbase, ie FotM when it got patched in. So no seperate hardmodes for one. I also hope Anet never looks at what builds the playerbase is using as I don’t want to fight 4 Wars and a Mesmer groups as bosses.
There are multi-guild guilds and guilds who don’t allow for guild hopping reasons:
Community: Maintaining a solid active community within guild wars 2 requires, you can guess activity. If people represent other guilds then they aren’t contributing to solidifying the guilds community.
Influence: For the guild to provide guild bonuses they require influence which is only gained from members that represent.
Loyalty: It’s an extension of community, but it’s still very important. Why be in a guild if you don’t want to spend all your time with them? As a guild leader I’m loyal to my members, dedicated. I expect everyone to be the same at least somewhat. It makes for a stronger community. Why should I be the only one to dedicate all my time to work hard for the guild if my members just take advantage of the ‘perks’ yet not contribute accordingly?
There’s plenty of guilds who allow guild hopping. If that’s what you want you can seek those out but don’t start raging at guild leaders trying to keep their guild strong if you do not understand their position.
Guilds and it members share responsibility for the guild, if you just want to do whatever you want to do with whomever you want to do it with then that’s your prerogative but guilds aren’t all about ‘you’ it’s about ‘us’
Edit: At least guilds focused on social communities, not specialized guilds which the guild hopping system is designed for.
Most of the 100% rep requirements are guild leaders taking the lazy way out instead of making the guild attractive for players. You know how you get people to rep a lot? Give them a good reason. Guild boosts, fun conversation, events, etc. Let’s take a look at your 3 points.
Community – If the guild leader isn’t doing events, etc, to get people to rep regularly, I don’t think they actually care about the guild community that much. Also, if the leader is harassing a member about not-repping every single day, they probably aren’t a very nice person to be in a guild with.
Influence – Ditto for guild buffs.
Loyalty – Uh, I love my family and am definitely loyal to them, but I don’t spend 100% of my time attached at the hip. Are you trying to tell me that a leisure activity should be more demanding than my family? lol, be serious.
You’re the leader, you’ve decided to run this guild as part of your leisure activity. No other player is or should be as dedicated as you are. If they do start doing as much as you to organize, etc, than they’re taking over your job.
I think a big part of the OP’s problem is that the guild leads changed the rules on him after he was already in the guild, and from his posts it doesn’t look like the leaders took the steps to make repping the guild appealing, they just harassed him until he quit. Now those leaders have lost a decent player who met their requirements until they changed the rules. That’s a loss for the guilds. He’s free to find another guild, hopefully one not run by wanna-be dictators.
TLDR: The multi-guild system shows rude and bad guild leaders as the liability they are. I’m all for that. It’s not fun for the people who get caught in the middle though. I hope the OP finds another, better guild.
You’re placing all the responsibility on the Leadership here. It’s not the leaderships job to constantly entertain their guild. They are there to run the day by day issues sure, but those don’t entail entertaining people. This does not mean they shouldn’t plan bigger events, but hand holding is the last thing the leadership should be doing.
On the comment of family. Do you sit on the couch never reaching out to them and just letting them do all the work? Being a part of a guild means showing commitment else you are nothing but a leech that only sucks out the life of a guild. You might as well not be part of a guild at all then.
I know i’ll probably come of as bias and a whatever…
But i blame Fractals of the Mists, before that dungeon and Ascended turned up, this game and its community were pretty good, after that it divided the community real bad added elitism and it just degenerated from there…
No I think it’s about right.
This is what happens when you push away the more laid back crowd and give in to the locusts that keep wanting more and more the faster the better.
Sorry but it’s not the guilds at fault here. If you join a guild than you have to abide by their rules. If you can’t than leave. Blaming guilds that they want you to represent them is nothing but being selfish as a player.
If you goal is to just have people around without building a community than by all means go around and hop all over the place, else abide by the rules set forth by the guild.
Short answer: NO
Shrink potion. There solved the worst problem with the camera when it comes to size. The camera will still suck most of the time though. It simply is a very badly designed thing.
OP you opened a post without even getting base concept of online games (learn what a cheater is) and yet you ask for bans?
Dev have stated they MEANT kohler to be skippable…
And skipping is full legit. It seems you are complete newby in mmorpgs yet you ask for arbitrary bans on what you don t like…
….
That is the problem to have to play with Others, some just wants the game to be how only them wants and don t care for Others.
I think you should reread what the OP has wrote. He’s not talking about skipping stuff that can be skipped, but skipping stuff that shouldn’t be able to be skipped.
CoE first Alpha encounter is one of them as he mentioned in his post. Or to simplify it Going from A to D without passing B and C, because you found and exploit to bypass it.
Now on to another question.
Why must so many players who leave the game make an announcement about it?
If the goal was to discuss the 1800 gems price, the above was not needed. It always makes for a bad thread, not sure why this would be different.
By the way, I’ll be leaving for dinner in 3hrs everyone.
If you feel strongly enough to leave the game, why would you not feel strongly enough to air an opinion about whatever it is making you leave?
Why is that hard to understand?
That’s what drama queens do, normal people just move on.
You’ve been given options. Take them or leave them.
The only monthly thing I hated was fractals, but that was due to the bad design choices made when implementing it.
As for the February monthly I find the daily requirement just extremely lazy.
It will just be destroyed again next halloween. So why bother making something new :p
To those who don’t like leveling, why do you play MMOs? Why did you play Guild Wars 2 in the first place?
Because i liked GW1, and the devs promised me that everything i liked in GW1 will be in GW2?
Yeah, i know, they didn’t really keep that promise, but i can still hope.
They probably didn’t keep that promise because they never made that promise. If they did, prove it. Every single post that I’ve seen from the time they knew they were making a sequel and onward stated that the sequel would be very different from the original.

Mike O’Brien: “We founded ArenaNet to innovate, so Guild Wars 2 is our opportunity to question everything, to make a game that defies existing conventions. If you love MMOs, you’ll want to check out Guild Wars 2, and if you hate MMOs, you’ll really want to check out Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1 and puts it into a persistent world that’s got more active combat, a fully-branching, personalized storyline, a new event system to get people playing together, and still no monthly fees.”
So yeah they kinda promised that. The things a whole lot of people loved about GW1 was no mandatory gear grind, low level cap, GvG. None of those are ingame. So what did they think we loved about GW1.
“Takes what you love about Guild Wars 1”
A. Subjective statement, you don’t necessarily love the same things about GW2 that other people do, or that the speaker does. Nor are you the authority on whether or not those things are in Guild Wars 2.
B. Not a promise, a design goal, and he lists what will be different immediately succeeding this statement. So you knew exactly what was coming, and ignored it. Persistent story, check. More active combat, check. Personalized storyline, check. Event system, check. No monthly fees, check.
Show me where he says ‘we promise that Guild Wars 2 will be nearly an exact copy of Guild Wars 1’ and I will concede your point.
A. Yes it is subjective, hence me asking what they thought we liked about GW1. Did you actually read anything I wrote or did you just like to bash.
B. I didn’t ignore anything, nor did I state what I liked about GW1, but you sure do like to jump to conclusions do you.
C. I’m not going to show you anything. You can’t be persuaded by anything anyone says.
To those who don’t like leveling, why do you play MMOs? Why did you play Guild Wars 2 in the first place?

The bad design decision was having the ability to respawn and engage the boss again and again, which they have now fixed. If this impairs your ability to do dungeons than maybe you shouldn’t have been doing them to begin with. Adapt and become a better player or leave it be.
It was Mike O’Brien in an AMA on reddit that said the line about GW1 being stagnant.
Only for those that believe levels and gear are the only forms of progression did it seem stagnant. This is a very narrow minded view in my opinion.
Increasing levelcap is meaningless and lazy design it only widens a gap that should never have existed to begin with. Bigger numbers does not make for better gameplay.
And perhaps they made up for this by adding several other daily achievement quests, instead of the usual 4?
1 extra 1 tier daily thing to do does not make up for removing around 9-10 subtiers.
Variety kills, Overall kills, Gathering and Events were all multi tiered.
Apart from a popquiz how will you determine an experienced player from one that isn’t. Experience != Skill. An observant player can do fights without knowing them beforehand as that falls under skill. An unskilled person of course can be detrimental to the group even with experience.
While it looks like a pointy ear. To me it looks just as much as hair covering the ear partly. Also not really a game bug is it or about the backpack.
Same here. I want my master carver title :|
This has to be one of the most kittentarded changes they have ever made.
Each member of our team spent 900 gems on revive orbs to get to Fractals scale 80, because we enjoy the challenge.
All other dungeons have been nerfed.Slowly starting to say farewell to this poor game.
Please tell me how using a cheap trick to progress = a challange. I’d say it is the opposite
It’s displaying the daileys based on your system time, but the server actually hands out credit for completing them. So you need to your system time to the correct time. (It’s probably set for the wrong date.)
So we can preview tomorrow’s dailies by changing our system time? O.O
That seems to be what he’s saying.
The biggest reason to use guesting outside of playing with friends as I see it. Will be to tackle the larger chain events such as the temple of balthazar and uncontesting dungeons. No overflow zone for Fractals all guest to the same server.
I just hope they put in measures to stop people from hopping servers to get quick stuff from say dragons.
One thing you can start with is check if you’ve been to all the mini dungeon areas.
People didn’t misunderstand your point they are flat out disagreeing with you.
How can you agree or disagree a question? I’ll let you think on that… its ok, take your time.
When i started this thread, i wanted to know others people opinion on this particular dungeon, with this particular design. If the enjoy it or not. And if they enjoy it, why? But most of you jumped to the conclusion that i dont like the dungeon because its hard and i can’t dodge. Seems a bit off to me.
If you want to ask a question than ask, but never ever give your answer beforehand. You are at fault for the derailment of your own thread due to being extremely unclear as to what you want.
I’ll let you think on that… its ok, take your time.
People didn’t misunderstand your point they are flat out disagreeing with you.
