Queen event killed open world?

Anet has been killing open world for a long time now. The living world does that perfectly yes, but also daily boss chests. Now the Champ loot. All of these remove people from zones other than the few that have the new LW or have good champ trains.

The world was their strongest asset and they have been ignoring it instead of building on it.

Again I must ask, because none of your kind seem to have an answer. Why do you want to complete it? There are only a few possible reasons I can see.

I can respond to this one –
because being rewarded for failing again and again and again and being rewarded more than in other parts of the game on top of that seems wrong.
Because if you want to farm there are legit places to do so. There are people running champ trains and completing the events and then there are people at the pavilion, why do you have to resort to failing an event?
Because it offers a bad image to new players. What happens when you try to complete what clearly is an objective on the right side of your screen? “What kind of kitten kitten kitten! Kitten you! All block him and post his pictures on reddit to shame him”, “You must be a 40 year old virgin attending fat camp” “All report the person over there for botting, you’ll lose your account you kitten, I hope you’re happy!”, “I really hope that you’ll die in irl, you piece of trash, you don’t deserve life”.
Because it does break regular gameplay in the area. While people were farming one person said that he would like to run arah, but can not run up the stairs, so could we uncontest a wp closer for him to run, that would require people to complete an event so the response was “pay 20G and I’ll run you up or just kitten off you loser”.

Essentially failing the event feels like cheating because you’re payed more than anywhere else in the game, it ruins other peoples fun and people doing the failing thing tend to be the worst potty mouths out there. To the point that you worry about their mental health.

I see this in the same light as a sports team/single person throwing the match because they got paid to do so. I find it morally wrong and is only being done because of greed.

I also find it utterly boring of course. Can’t fathom how people can do it hours on end.

A friend of mine has a theory, that the lack of people in a zone will reset resource nodes (exception being static ones). Sounds plausible, since the kitten Soutsun nodes keep moving about.

And I use orrmaps.com as a resource-mapping tool. Been using it for months now, easy to use and can find all maps for a server. Needs a collab function though..

I say your friend is correct. It only happens to zones that lack people during certain times, usually at night. Southsun is even worse because it is empty pretty much all day on some servers.

This just tells me GW2 does not have a permanent world at all as such changes would not be possible. Yet they advertised it as having one.

And this is only true if you have 1 character. If you have multiple alts you get to wait an eternity to gear them. I am forced to get gear I never wanted in the first place and yes it is forced. Don’t bother saying you don’t have to get Ascended gear, because new content will at some point be adjusted to ascended gear. I like options and Anet is taking more and more freedom away.

The upleveling and downleveling system is coded for Exotics. The difference between Exotic and Ascended Trinkets is negligible, therefore the system does not need to get tweaked for them.

If you must gear your alts, you will gear your alts via Fractals. If you don’t want to do Fractals, then you don’t need to gear your alts. It’s quite simple, really. As soon as my Thief hit level 80, I put on 2 Ascended Rings. Not because I had excess Laurels (I spent 200 Laurels the day before on Dyes), but because I actually do all the content in the game. Not on a daily basis, but I do touch it all and I have plenty of Ascended Rings. I did not get Ascended Accessories/Backpiece on my Thief as I haven’t touched it since, but that’s besides the point. If I had needed it, I wouldn’t have spent all my Laurels and would have geared it up as soon as I got to 80.

You’re quite literally making an excuse for yourself.

“It’s too hard to get Ascended gear, and even though it’s only 6% more stats I NEED TO GET IT. It’s NOT FAIR THAT I HAVE TO WORK FOR THAT LAST 6% STATS!”

I hope you one day realize that 6% trinket stats is not going to make you die to Liadri. (Note: 6% trinket stats is a little under 2% total stats, including all of your traits and equipment, assuming you’re NOT wearing zerker/condition duration/boon duration/critical damage/healing power/magic find.)

Utter BULLCRAP and you know it. When Ascended armor hits it will make a a lot more content trivial and they WILL have to adjust the difficulty.

I have a real job. I work 9hrs a day, weekdays.

Problem?

Look, reality-wise, you know I am right. Most people are looking for efficiency. You’re not the only one affected by being late. There are other people too. This is a MMO – be mindful of the time of others – you could be wasting them.

Is your job not challenging enough that you have to carry over the same (if not greater) intensity into an online game with no monetary reward?

I’m a programmer and yes, it becomes boring after 3 years.

Why are we talking about my job anyways?

Back to topic – again, you are interacting with people. If you want patient people, you should have started your own group asking for a friendly, casual run.

I’m sure there are people with mindset like yours in-game.

Also, people play differently. Again – this is a MMO – you get to interact with people. Some people play for fun, some people play for reward – deal with it.. It doesn’t matter if they have jobs iRL (you might bring that argument again) – the point is, they have different play style.

And why don’t we turn this around. Don’t assume a group is automatically a speedrun group. You want speedrun make your own group. You join someone else’s group show some patience when it takes a bit longer.

Time Gating is a terrible idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Conner.4702

Time gating doesnt make it so it takes you longer to get a reward..

Yes it does. I cannot play every day. Currently I may have only one day a week I can expect to play. I do have the ability to play a lot on that one day. Time gating, such as on Laurels, means that I may get only four laurels a month. If laurels were not gated as they are I might be able to get seven per week.

Time gate like Marcus said just makes sure those 15 days can be pleasurable experiance rather then an unending grind.

Time gating just makes sure those 15 days can be an annoyance rather than a pleasurable pursuit.

It might seem like that on the surface because it just takes 30 minutes to complete the daily. But it takes 30 minutes to complete a daily only because you can only get 1 per day.

It takes 20 laurels for 1 single ascended piece not because some manufacturer needs 20 laurels to create that ascended piece but because arena-net decided an ascended piece i a reward you get for consuming approximately 15 days of content.

If you remove that time gate whatever requirement they ask for be it gold, karma or materials will also add up to 15 days.

I gave an example with karka shells, I dont know really whats a reasonable amount of karka shells per day, anet would know… but lets say its 50 per day. That means you’ll need 750 for a whole piece. If you play once a week you’re not going to get the whole 750, you’re going to get 50 of them. in one month you’ll still not get 750 of them you’re going to get 200 of them. With the daily system you actually have an advantage which without time gate you wouldnt have. If in those 4 days you’re playing you finish off a monthly you’ll earn a total of 14 laurels. That still makes you 6 days short. But without the time gate you’d be 16 days short instead of 6.

So really not only the time gate is allowing you enjoy the game by allowing you to choose the content you want but also allowing you to progress faster rather then slower!

Why can't we have 24 competitive servers?

in WvW

Posted by: Conner.4702

Conner.4702

Why there isn’t a 24/7 system is simply due to the fact that they separated the servers into US and EU. It was a stupid move from a WvW point of view as WvW was promoted as a 24/7 battlefield, but that only works if people from many different timezones play on the same server.

It will also never be changed and as such WvW will never ever succeed as a whole. Either they are unwilling or incapable is moot.

The only way to abuse this is if Anet forgot to make new characters ineligible.

It was simply abused by creating new characters, transferring the tickets, deleting the character and repeat as far as I understand it.

And making it impossible for new characters to get them wouldn’t really work either, since that would punish new players.

In theory you are correct about new players, but in practise new players won’t be able to complete the challenges anyway and getting tickets isn’t that hard.

The Death of Alts...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Conner.4702

i would see a problem with this if i wanted to gear all my character with celestial armors, but:
- ascended armor are on their way (so probably celestial exotic will be outdated by than)
- celestial armor are good for some builds and useless for some other
- ascended trinkets can be purchased in many ways not necessarily time gated and alt unfriendly (also, ascended stats are just +2 better than exotic, very underpowered, so if don’t think to use an alt for fractals i won’t bother give them all of the existing gears, they can have the millions rings i find here and there).
- colors, do you really use them all in all of your toons? is really needed to have all of them in all the alts you have?
- account bound legendaries, i’m too lazy to unequip my legendary, stick it in the bank, changing alt, search a bank, equip it in my other alt, play, unequip, stick in bank, changing alt, search a bank, equip it, play… so i don’t have an issue with that.

as far as i can tell, this game is very alt friendly to me since there are so many account bound rewards. i could die if i had to do everything with the alt that i want to gear up, instead, i can play every alt i like and give them the rewards.
the real problem is the time gating quarts, but that is a problem even if you have only one alt and it is another issue altogether

You are severely downplaying the issues. Ascended armor is not just +2 stats. It is quite a bit more. It will also be just as time gated as Celestial armor is now. Gearing up Alts in ascended trinkets is already time consuming if you have alts ridiculous so in my opinion.

The Dungeons no longer being treated as separate token wise is extremely punishing for those that want to equip a new alt in a timely fashion.

Basically people are being punished for putting in more work than those with one character. How is that fair?

People are throwing around that gear centric games are more alt unfriendly, but I disagree. If you put the time in in those games you will be rewarded, whichis no longer the case here more and more.

2500 for Southsun Survival...

Games are roughly 10 minutes long. Occasionally people drag it on for an extra few minutes or die early, making it a few minutes shorter.

2500 points takes around 25 to 50 games, 4 to 8 hours. Doing it in only 25 games would be by using the ghost trick to gather motes first, scoring on average 100 points per game.

People keep throwing the 100 points per game thing around. That is in fact quite rare to get. In all the games I played I’ve only seen it happen once.

40 to 70 is more realistic as there is a luck factor involved as well. Getting ported to a crap location will also screw up your scoring chances.

As for the 2500 points needed. It is a ridiculous amount when compared to Aspect Arena. 1500 or 1000 would have been a lot more in line when comparing the two.

It is not as simple as having both, it is something that is within the code and the interaction of multiple different elements of the game. So it might look like an easy thing on the outside – under the hood there is a lot of programming magic going on.

So if you need to have a bankspace to protect yourself from – well – yourself, you have to use the “individual guild” route.

If it is simple or not is irrelevant. Just because it is harder to do does not mean you should not do it and is a cop out argument.

This thread is a fine example of how people all heard that wind was OP so they completely ignored sun and lightning. Then people heard that sun could get you across the whole map instantly so they all switched to sun.

If you took some time to explore all 3 aspects and learned their strengths and weaknesses then you wouldn’t need to be here complaining.

The only thing that is currently a problem is the wind exploit to reset the invuln timer.

And here I am favouring Lightning. It is great to kill crystal bearers with. Time your trap well and you will have no problem killing them. I couldn’t get sun to work for me offensively. Air was so and so. The knockback is nice, but also quite easily avoided and knocking people off doesn’t give you credit.

The achievements should have been geared to helping your team win, while at first glance it does seem killing bearers does that, the fact that the game is fast paced makes it not worth while to kill their bearers if you want to win a match.

Better achievements would have been 50 normal kills and 10 wins. Another option: do a certain amount of each event type, Sun, Air, Lightning.

And I’m have exactly the opposite opinion, I find Southsun Survival to be extremely tedious and boring. It should have had a much smaller map and a faster pace. Aspect Arena on the other hand is very well done. I would go so far to say the best mini game they have made. The issue with the arena is that the achievements don’t encourage you to play to win. This is easily rectified by making it so knocking people off counts for the achievement.

Also because they remember the story from the last few times they did it.

What story? The fractal won’t have any story to it apart from the what you do while going from A to B.

People are looking way to deep into all of this. It is going to be a 15 to 30 min Fractal with very minimal story if any at all. Don’t confuse this with story dungeon mode.

Developer already hinted that the reactor’s chaos rift will have affect on the

This still won’t be a story for the fractal itself, just a reaction.

So you’re telling people ‘well you’re gonna miss something eventually, so why bother’? That sounds a little … rude.

Just because you can’t understand why people play the way they do, it doesn’t mean you should look down on it or try to devalue it.

No, I’m just saying to be realistic. I never said to “not bother”, I was just suggesting if you reach a point where something out of your control is prohibiting you somehow from getting an achievement, then maybe you should realize that it’s just not going to happen. Y’know instead of frustrating yourself by laps and laps of Sanctum Sprint when you KNOW the skills are going to bug out on you because you have bad latency or lag or whatever..Why not take a break and go work on other achievements or do something you enjoy?

I’m not saying you shouldn’t try, just if you try and try and try and it doesn’t work..Not because you need more practice, but because of factors outside of your control (which is of course what everyone’s saying is why they can’t win Sanctum Sprint), then consider giving it a rest because you can’t get all the achievement points forever anyways.

And to be honest, if people MUST insist on torturing themselves by doing optional activities in the game that they HATE or have tons of problems with (like bugs, lag, etc). Then atleast have the decency to recognize that this was YOUR choice, and stop complaining about it all over map chat and the forums. You have a right to complain when something legitimately is broken, when 100% of the population is unhappy, when you have been somehow wronged by Anet. When you choose to partake in optional activities despite the fact that you hate doing them or have issues that only affect a portion of people (and therefore is not Anet’s fault), you really have no right to complain (as much as people are) about it.

Translation: keep quiet as it doesn’t affect me and I don’t want to read all those complaints.

Ignoring problems does not make them go away or get fixed in the long run.

I’m pretty sure the buggy/laggy mechanics are preventing those who are not local to the servers from doing well in this race.

Is it fair they get a handicap and never able to obtain the one time only achievement just because you’re “competing” for a reward you already have? Preventing any one else from getting it once you have it is simply being mean. There is no reason to come first after you got it the first time.

I’m not competing for a reward, I’m competing for fun. This is a game, and I would like it to be played fairly so I can have fun. I actually like the race, but when people cheat like this it really hurts us all.

The only one it seems to hurt is you. Tell me what is the difference between reaching the end first and crossing the finish line and reaching the end first and waiting. There is no difference except an ego one. So is that all it is? You needing an ego boost to have your name on top?

I’ve finished first by actually winning, but I had to switch to cable over wifi to do so. The game has to many lag issues and bad skill behaviour to make it a fair race to begin with. I’ve even gone over the side a few times only to fall on air meaning I had to jump myself further down manually.

The reason I want to play fairly and work to win is because of the same reason I like to win a games like Mario Kart, because it’s fun!

Since when is it more important for people to get an achievement than to have fun and play fairly?

Since when is it more important for others to know you won over knowing you won yourself but letting others have the “top” spot. I don’t need someone elses approval to know I’m good.

I’m just glad people don’t have that kind of sad mentality in regular PvP matches.

Yep very sad indeed that I don’t feel the need to stroke my own ego in a mini game for fun. I don’t have an inferiority complex thankfully.

Basically people are lazy. They prefer to stand near the boss spawn point to collect their easy loot. Yesterday I was doing the event at Falias while the wurm was in pre window. After 2 waves I was like why am I bothering I killed the wurm already let the people waiting do some work. Well the event failed not so long later. I even had to point out in chat that they needed to uncontest it if they wanted the wurm to spawn.

A lot of chest bosses that can go in minus only do so because people are not doing events in the area. Unless people are told that something needs to be done they won’t lift a finger. Good example is behemoth event were they added the 2 blocking events to the list of pre events, monastery and oakheart.

A lot of these events would flow so much better if people started to do more than just waiting for it to spawn. With the only exception being the shatterer as mentioned.

As for the Ulgoth pre events. To be honest it is to long with to little reward. Remove the champs from the events and it would be a lot better.

Sorry people, but no scoring system is going to be able to correct the inherent flaws of the WvW setup that Anet is using. They promoted WvW as a 24/7 battleground, but they forgot to make them 24/7 by making them region based.

Until Anet completely rewrites their server architecture software to enable global play without consequences you will have to make due with this flawed system.

1 Global pool of WvW servers will mean there won’t be a downtime or almost none for servers as when one group goes to bed another is ready to take over. This way the scoring system would actually work. Step 2 would be to make sure matchups don’t go stale.

Thank you for pointing this out. I feel that this point has been completely neglected in the discussion so far. I would like to elaborate on it some more:

  • They may not have had the time (or felt the need) to sit down and learn the nooks and crannies of their character class(es); or to build up the elaborate knowledge to trait and skill for maximum efficiency. Their build may be kind of random.
  • They may not have the funds to get the best exotic armour for their playstyle. Their armour may well be a mix and match.
  • They very certainly haven’t had time to do 60 explorable dungeons for a set of rabid armour.
  • They may not have planned ahead – they may have spent their karma on whatever seemed useful at the time (and why wouldn’t they, if that was always good enough) and may not have ~ 300k karma for soldier’s armour or 150+ gold for sentinel’s armour
  • They may not have assembled enough laurels or guild commendation (let alone fractal tokens and vials) for ascended jewellery and back pieces. (I have some of each, but not enough of either to fully gear myself in purple.)
  • They may not even be level 80 (although I know many players who made it to level 80 on multiple characters without becoming pro players).

And you know what, PvE (the core game, I might add) difficulty levels suggest that this casual playstyle is okay. Then suddenly the living story content suggests it is no longer good enough, and people need to L2P within 2 weeks. If you look at the list above, that is a lot more of catching up to do than to simply understand the boss fight mechanics.

(I pointed out rabid, soldier’s and sentinel’s as these are the set that myself and friends of mine have been recommended for better survivability or efficiency.)

Just because you, dear non-casual player, with your specific build, min-maxed stats, fully optimally traited and skilled, geared in exotics and ascended items character(s) find the normal PvE content too easy and boring, doesn’t mean that it is face-roll easy for a casual player. For a casual player with their non-min-maxed, random gear character, this is indeed normal difficulty.

You, with all the time you’ve had to build up knowledge and assemble gear, may be soloing champions for fun, but you cannot assume that everybody else is on your level.

As a casual player your reply and the guy you quoted completely irk me. Casual != Unskilled, which both of you seem to try and perpetuate. I don’t min-max, I don’t have properly statted gear, I certainly don’t know my class to perfection especially the one I did the dungeon on.

Casual and Hardcore doesn’t say anything about a players skill level. Are there more skilled hardcore players, yes. That is due to experience though and experience is just a minor factor in skill. You can train a monkey to do tasks to perfection, but that is often just a matter of repetition.

I spend a total of 5 times in the Dungeon and have all the achievements, because I am a skilled player, not because I am uberleet hardcore master of death. On top of that I have a physical handicap that can easily get me killed. That being really bad eye sight

Do the achievements have issues sure.

It requires a good group to get them. Dead weight probably means 1 or all of the harder achievements will fail. If people die at Frizz it means it is just that much harder for the surviving members to get the achievement. Can still be done though.
Having to res people at the end is also an issue, but there is some leeway as long as you know what to do.

Intelligence is more important than experience when it comes to skill.

As it is being done now, yes I do think the Living story is bad for the game. It’s sole function is to keep people playing, which in itself is not bad, but people that have gone through the content they like and have stopped playing, will not return or if they do not for very long. Simply because no real new content was added. The content that was added permanently is not content that keeps people playing. On top of that and this is just my opinion, the living story isn’t much of a story.

What real impact did Flame and Frost have really. The Molten Alliance was formed and are we to believe disbanded right after?
Why was Southsun left in disarray after Secrets of Southsun. Wasn’t the entire point of that story to make it safe for people.
I somehow doubt The Aetherblade will be around much longer after Sky Pirates end

As it stands the Living Story needs a much larger permanent part. Be it in the form of a dungeon or a redesign of a zone/area. It needs to leave a statement saying we were here, because currently the world does not care on bit. It is the same old same old after each story has come and gone. I’m not counting Southsun as that was just very poorly done. Evidence lies in the fact it became deserted again after Secrets of Southsun. The Karka Queen rarely gets killed on most servers and my server had a 2 week timeframe between kills.

How old was the game in November?

Does it matter? It already had over 2 million sales and people did not care for the DEs introduced.

It does actually. Even now I can encounter a DE I have not done before even though I have 3 characters with 100% world completion. Those few DE’s got completely lost in the already large amount of DE’s in game so most people would simply not have noticed the difference, which is not the same as not caring, at that time in GW2 short lifespan.

Aetherblade Jumping Puzzle Bad Design

It is not bad design, it is bad camera! Every JP, and every interior is immense because of bad camera (continuous zooming) and low FOV.

That’s exactly why it is bad design. It is a known problem so should be avoided when possible

They are working as i´m saying. Everything else might be up to your connection / pc not being able to handle the additional strain of that mass of players, period.

Doesn’t mean the pads are well designed

If you love jumping Puzzles , you’ll love this Jumping Puzzle

HOWEVER

If Jumping Puzzles are work for you, you may or may not just glaze this over because the rewards are a Exotic shoulder pad with common skin.

I need the salvage ecto, so I guess I’ll do it.

Don’t do it. The ecto is not salvagable.

I found out just now….

So I can’t sell it, salvage it, or eat it…

I don’t want the chitty-wok stats, so it sits in my inventory.
Nice A-Net really nice.

You can stuff it in the MF

I love jumping puzzles yet found this one to be subpar and overusing bad gimmicky launch platforms. This combined with the bad camera makes this JP just not that much fun.

EB JP changes

It was nerfed months ago. Even before it became its own zone. This was well before ascended was available in WvW.

Are you naive enough to think they didn’t plan ahead?

As far as I’m concerned the people who don’t understand advanced tactics, strategy and planning, whined and whined and got it removed and nerfed, because they can’t fathom how it could be used as an asset. 99.999% of the playerbase are nothing but lowly footsoldiers. You don’t let footsoldiers dictate strategy.

Creating characters just to farm EB JP was pointless as the loot scales to your level. So badges on a low level was around 3-5 for a long time. The average badge count from the chest is 15 per run on a 80. Far cry from a good reason to nerf it to once daily per account, but everything to ensure people can’t buy anets precious ascended crap right away. That’s why it was nerfed and for no other reason.

Thank you Vayne and others for making a thread that’s SUPPOSE to be nostalgic aesthetics into another stupid “Mechanics gw2 vs Mechanics gw1”

Seriously. I hope a moderator would just lock this thread. There were many other “mechanics” argument thread…

I’m having a conversation. There have been other nostalgic Guild Wars 1 threads too. And until people start coming into them and saying how much better it was than Guild Wars 2, I’m happy to be nostalgic too. But when people start glorifying the game, while forgetting it’s faults, yeah, I have something to say about it.

How come you’re not annoyed at the people who come into threads and derail them by saying Guild Wars 1 is better than Guild Wars 2?

No you are glorifying GW2 and ignoring all the blatant faults IT has. GW1 is the better game. And no I am NOT talking about the whole package like you like to claim people do. As an explorer I loath GW2 exploration. Everything is fed with a silver spoon to people.

You just shut stop kittening whining. Just don’t to the achievement and gtfo out of this forums. Do I make 1000+++ posts about the dungeons in the other threads?

This is a Living World forum. A PvE forum, if you haven’t noticed. PvE people have every right to post there.

WvW is part of the world, or hadn’t you noticed that when going for 100% world completion. I agree with the people that there is nothing wrong with the way the achievement is setup. The EB JP is build from the ground up to prevent other people from reaching the top. From traps, choke points to terrain advantage. It is build as a king of the hill type area. You control the top you control the puzzle and others have to knock you off.
This is NOT a PVE JP, you can not expect to go there and just breeze through. Even worse to expect a fair fight. Sure I’ll just wait until you finished that hard jump and get ready before I attack /sarcasm.
You want the achievement go organise your server to take the top from whoever is holding it. If you are not good enough than get better. You can get a whole army inside the dark area unseen if need be.
I spend months perfecting my skills in that JP. Why should the rest just be able to go up there without risk. Adapt or stop whining to be honest.

A non WvW player.

Oh no, did I vendor my Bifrost for?!?!

LOL.

Does nobody think to put their most precious items in invisible bags like I do?

Guess that would be way too easy for most people.

I don’t use invisible bags, but than again I pay attention when I vendor or salvage my stuff.

Can casual and hardcore players co exist?

In theory yes. In practise. The “Hardcore” people are locusts that devour content then demand more and more and more without rhyme or reason. They can never be appeased and have tore down many a promising game. They claim to want harder content, but will exploit their way through it every chance they get.

The game seemed to have crashed or whatever else 10 min ago. The event api is still listing shadow behemoth pre for my server, but I was there ad killed it. Though afterwards I could not go any where else and got kicked out when I tried. would explain the extremely low amount of people there.
