Am i being really stupid here, because I thought Ineptitude was an amazing trait for condi mesmers. Blind every 10 seconds, and every blind applied is a stack of condi. (I’m fairly sure the confusion is on every blind, not limited by the ICD?)
Combine this with blind on shatters, and it adds a decent amount of damage to condi builds.

Big burst with izerker/mirror blade/MoD/Mind wrack combo. Then vanish into stealth for survivability.
If you’re feeling confident swap PU for CI. Also no condition removal on this build, it more relies on not getting hit. Try it out if you’d like, maybe someone can post a better build.
Hey guys, using a mid 2012 Macbook Pro, and while it used to be ok, im now experiencing loading screens which can be up to 2 minutes long. In PvP I only get into the game with ~15 seconds left before it begins, and HotM takes even longer.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can decrease the loading screen times? Playing on all lowest settings aside from i’m on ‘native’ graphics.
Cheers guys
Go crazy and use a perplexity runes/ focus combo. Plenty of speed, extra condition damage, and bonus points for originality!
Depending on the squishiness of the target, might stacks, vulnerability etc, it usually hits for 1500-3000 damage. Thats in PvP with zerk amulet.
Personally, I use two techniques against rangers:
1) Abuse the hell out of LoS. Can’t pew pew if they can’t see you.
2) Close the gap. I often use blink if it’s off cooldown, and get a quick burst in at the start of the fight. They’ll most often swap to GS etc, and at this point they’ve lost a lot of their damage potential, and I often win. Use 1) to make them come around the obsturction, allowing you to close the gap easier if blink is on cd.
I use none of the reflects as they’re generally too situational. Can only be used against a very small number of attacks, and aren’t important enough to be selected just for rangers.
While I agree with all of the above, generally speaking at least, it is incorrect to say that PU is no longer viable. The old builds are certainly a bit outdated now, but PU is still an excellent GM Trait in a strong trait-line that can be incorporated into viable builds.
It’s just no longer as easy and obviously superior to other builds.
Agreed, my mistake.
It used to wreck people who didnt know how to fight it, but now everyone is used to it. This isnt even considering the fact that all the stealth means its unviable in conquest pvp. If you want to be viable, find Supcuties shatter guide. (I’ll have a quick look for it)

Please don’t feed the troll.
A few queries:
Do the boons proc out of combat?
Are there any internal cooldowns?
Whats the AoE on the dodge roll?
If I get favourable answers to those, I will absolutely love this runeset
Love the sound of this, definitely sign me up (EU). Quick questions, do I have to post the build I’d use here? And are any builds banned?
Edit: Awww yeah officially 3rd best mesmer EU! Can’t see this lasting too long….

Decoy:
Fixed a bug that allowed this skill to stealth the player when they were revealed.
Desperate Decoy:

I’m slightly unsure why the completely separate game mechanic has been nerfed – under the guise of calling it a bug? Honestly felt it added some good variety to the game and really did not require this ‘fix’.
In reply to Pupi and Ross:
Fair enough, I’ll take your word for it. But have you considered trying out a hybrid build with the same weapon set? Direct damage from sword mh, confusing images, and pistol; and then conditions from scepter, torch and sharper images. While I don’t dispute sc/p+sw/t could work well in a power build, I do think it would work better in a hybrid one.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
If you aren’t a fan of conditions, i’m not sure why you’re using the scepter and the torch, which are both condition weapons. This along with all the bleeds from sharper images, I’d call this a hybrid build rather than PU. If you do want to be power PU i’d go with a berserker amulet (Theres a lot of threads explaining why celestial is bad for mesmers). Then two energy sigils, one doom and one air, and runes of the pack/hoelbrak. Maybe try out GS/Sw+torch?
P.S traveler runes are pretty bad aside from the speed boost
P.P.S Maybe something like this? http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAR8flknpRtlpxINcrNiqxY6aSpFSGwClMjtB-TZBFwAJOIALeCAt2foaZAAXAAA
I thought OP was just taking the kitten out of Illusionary Leap’s fix, where it was changed to suit the description. So (even though it would be realllyyy OP) is the same not done to null field? ^^
Quite simple, conditions applied on clone-death are non-evadable. I have a feeling theyre also unblockable. So any time a clone is destroyed from any means other than a shatter skill, and the mesmer is using on-clone-death traits, you WILL get hit if you are in range, regardless of any dodges or evades.
On my phone so will keep it short and sweet: build looks fine, it’s a case of which offers more: chaos armor/phase retreat vs 2 blocks. Other than that, you have no condition removal so you’ll want to avoid longer fights.
In spvp travelers isn’t really worth it imo, especially if youre running portal – swap it out for lyssa or ranger perhaps? Also maybe trysigils of fire and air rather than force. Looks good otherwise
The changes I’d like to see:
Illusionary Leap – Create a clone at target foe, crippling them. Swap places with this clone to Immobilise foes.
Furious interruption – The quickness duration should either be increased or icd lowered. Completely unused at the moment.
Bountiful Disillusionment – Grant might on mind wrack, retal on frustration. All boon durations buffed, needs to be a viable alternative to Prismatic understanding.
Prismatic Understanding- Extends stealth skills by 2 seconds. Grants regeneration whilst in stealth – Interval -2s. (Just a suggestion, I’d quite like to see this nerfed a small amount, and it seems like the most OP part of PU is the protection and Aegis gained)
Could also be a slight nerf as LoS is required for projectiles. Currently #3 can be used around corners (assuming the terrain is completely flat)
Zerging – Power, but obviously you need to be quite tough here.
Roaming – Power, condition and hybrid are all effective at the moment. Power builds are essentially better at ending fights, a lot more chasing capabilities etc. Fights tend to be shorter and the loss of toughness means you lose out on survivability when compared to condi but gain a lot higher spike damage. Condition builds are better at surviving, and can win 1vX easier with sustained condition damage, but enemies can disengage far easier than with power. I’d personally recommend a hybrid build, with a mix of berserker and rabid gear, to get the best of both worlds.
P.S. Prismatic Understanding, while good, is not the only viable roaming build ^^
Its not a balance patch so all class stuff is tooltips and bug fixes. How have you not realised thats how it always is? Just because they fixed a tooltip doesnt mean it wont be altered in the very next balance patch. In fact it may have been corrected ready for a change.
+1. Anet’s policy is to introduce changes with big feature packs in the hope of drawing old and new players. Big changes are a lot more exciting and attractive than small, gradual tweaks.

most or all mesmer cloaking is not actual stealth.
One skill. Lasting 3 seconds. 40 second cooldown.
Haha I’ll have to look up the math for the precision thing, never been much of a min-maxer but would be good to have a better build (Hopefully someone comes along with the numbers)
And I have tried the mantra. And i tried my best to love it, really I did. But having to recharge it in the middle of a fight against a thief or something… far too much hassle. Traiting harmonious mantras would definitely make this build stronger I think, you just have to be able to bear the mantras!
Yeah CD is a little much, but its lots of fun
Pyro makes a good point that shatter is kinda hard countered by thieves. Personally don’t run hybrid PU at the moment, as i prefer slightly higher bursts, but this is the thread that you’ll want to look at: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Maximised-Hybrid-Phantasm-Build-Roaming/first
Hopefully someone who is currently using a hybrid PU build will post more up to date stuff, but its really 2/4/6/2/0 GS+ sw/p with a mix of berserker and rabid gear.
1 is larger than 0, so mesmer must be fine.
Ya got me, I can’t argue with that. Also more #cough# evidence #cough# : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/Mesmers-are-OP/first#post4234953
Mesmer! Most OP class right now!
Proof: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/Mesmers-are-OP/first#post4234953
Sadly Mesmer are still in a very good spot in PvP
This is slightly debatable. Slllliiiiiggghttllyy.
Loving roaming as a mesmer at the moment. We have lots of escape abilities (portal/stealth/blink) and good duelling capabilities, which are important. (Travelers for bonus points escaping and moving across the map)
Lots of team utility in fights so great for small groups too.
PU is probably the most viable roaming build at the moment due to survivability, (I’d probably put hybrid PU being the best) but shatter is also fine if you want a higher burst at the cost of survivability.
Camps are ok to clear, not necessarily easily. Lack of aoe etc. But still not much of a problem, can be done in 1-2 minutes. Less if youre better than me xD. We are no longer thief food you shall be happy to hear, if we ever were, although condi thieves may cause you some problems (Read- conditions in general). And a thief/mesmer pair works very well together.
TLDR: Mesmer is epic at roaming
Thanks for replying
Personally I’m not too worried about the squishyness aspect, doing ok so far. (Though i will admit a surprise thief burst hits HARD)
I think the difference is how the damage is dealt. With the shatter builds you have to be close to the enemy to deal serious damage, whereas with this most damage is done at range, kiting attacks. So i’m constantly looking for attacks to dodge whilst phantasms do the work for me. Mobility wise I seem to have plenty, only the most determined zergs/groups can chase me down.
DE is for a few things: Guaranteed ether feast max heal, projectile blocking, procs confusion on death and general confusion in battle. Dont mind it occasionally killing a phant, having 3 phantasms up stresses me out, cant handle not being able to use half my skills o.0
Interesting point on the precision though, why is it that over 50% chance is a waste?
Edit: Also I just fell in love with portal while roaming. Signet of illusions might get dropped xD

Hey all,
Thought I’d post my WvW roaming build for some feedback/tips and as an alternative for anyone who wants to roam WvW without using PU. (For whatever reason that may be)
It’s essentially a pure direct damage phantasm build, focusing on active defence and kiting. Lots of dodges, blink, decoy, blurred frenzy, illusionary wave etc are all used to keep enemies away from you, whilst your phantasms hit for 4-6k. Signet of Illusions was chosen to try and keep them alive, even so they are squishy, but iSwordsman can be summoned every 12s, iBerserker every 16s.
Condition clear is limited, but I tend to have an ok time against condition specs as they are under constant phantasm pressure and I am able to kite any attacks. Very low armor stat, but as a mesmer I feel like If someone manages to chain-cc me after I’ve blown all my stunbreakers Im probably dead regardless of toughness. (And I probably deserved to lose :P)
Any and all feedback is welcome, Im always trying to improve the build I’m using. Thanks!

and yes, don’t waste utility and trait slots for condie clear. If you do it – you play something wrong with PU mesmer
I’m gonna disagree with this, you really need condi clear on every build. One good condi spike from a p/d thief / necro / warrior and you’d be as good as dead. I’d suggest either taking the torch with cleansing conflagration, or menders purity.
Oh and deceptive evasion is amazing even without clone death traits – clones can be used to soak up damage, allow a constant 3-clone heal on ether feast and generally add to the confusion in fights.
Looks like a pretty solid PU build. Nice burst capabilities from the iDuellist.
Unless I’m mistaken you have absolutely 0 condition removal here, so you may want to swap out signet of domination for null field/ mantra cleanse etc.
Also with the added power from rampagers, the extended bleed durations and the high precision, I’d even suggest trying out greatsword rather than staff, as you’ll proc a lot more bleeds with the triple-hit clone auto-attack. Just a suggestion, could be terrible ^^. (That would also let you put in bountiful interruptions/master of manipulation etc, and would stop people running away so easily)
Rampagers is also going to make you a lot squishier than rabid, though PU may well be enough to compensate for this.

Cheers, may well be seeing me roaming around soon then!
Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a server which is good for roaming solo and in small groups? My current server (Gandara) tends to be filled with a lot of zergs and larger guild groups, making it fairly difficult to roam on. (Think we’re now going into gold league, which will also mean a lot more zergs :P)
My friend has suggested moving to Gunnar’s Hold, can anyone vouch for that server or suggest a better one?
What i’m personally running, mainly for solo roaming. Its a phantasm build with some lockdown elements, it gives a good burst as well as decent survivability thanks to the blink and stealth.
Otherwise try PU builds for extra survivability, the standard builds are 10/20/30/10/0 or 20/20/30/0/0.
Hope it helps in some way
Edit: All weapons are berserker aside from a rabid scepter. This isn’t a perfect build by any means, feel free to make any changes if you choose to use it.
(edited by Coxy.5269)
For something as good as Overload, you’d need a longer cool down and a fairly long cast-time. Other classes would be complaining of OP-ness otherwise ^^. But otherwise that does sound fantastic, especially your point on shatter build diversity.
Staff/gs is the general meta shatter setup for tpvp.
It’s not an odd combo.
I always thought mainhand sword was needed for a shatter build o.0
You people are out of your kittening minds. If you’re using Mantras on a Mesmer, you’re playing the class wrong. Mantras blow, they always have and they always will. I can’t believe the amount of people in here freaking out over a freakin’ MANTRA change. Do yourselves a favor, go with a 10/30/0/0/30 max DPS shatter build and thank me later.
Bit of a definitive statement? Maybe you mean in PvE, in which case I can’t really comment, but mantras are great for roaming in WvW. Like Osi said, combining the condition cleanse and healing mantra with harmonious mantras and healers purity rids mesmers of our main weakness : conditions.
A max dps shatter build on the other hand, lacks a lot of survivability.
Seras, I thought they scrapped that change?
Was just wondering, with the imminent glory removal, how (or if) we will still receive PvP weapons and armour? If my understanding is correct all chests will be removed from the game, and so the only way of getting new gear will be via crafting.
This raises the problem of being unable to craft certain gear if you were not a high enough level prior to the patch:
for example, as a rank 36, I would be unable to craft PvP Fiery Gladius as I would have no Tiger tokens.
Many thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me.
