What happened to armor loot scaling?

I always get Greens + Rares around my level. It’s only blue that seem to dip far below or are the areas level. But blues are garbage anyways.

I have noticed this as well. Blues seem to fall to zone-scale.

I am male. I play mostly males when given the choice. In GW2, all are males.

Okay. We get it. GW2 is not what you expected.

Have you read this:

http://www.mmorpgguys.com/blogs/BadSpock/032011/21585_Linear-Statistical-Progression-An-affliction-that-has-ruined-MMOs-from-the-getgo

I’ve been posting it frequently as it keeps coming up as relevant to the discussion.

Much of that write up is good. But I cannot stand when people falsely assume that instancing was created as a barrier or some other nonsense. It is purely a technology construct done for performance balancing reasons. Instances/Sharding/etc exists in order to balance net code. CCP avoided this in EVE because there is far less net code required because you cannot constantly change position and velocity in the world. Instead, you issue commands to change your target. Huge difference in net code load.

Sorry, I am way off topic. Pet peeve of mine.

The less than stellar pro-reviews have really targeted endgame being an issue

They reviewed it thinking it would be WoW 2, just like a bunch of people came into the game thinking it would be WoW 2, despite ANet saying for years that it wouldn’t be WoW 2. That’s really the bottom line.

I refuse to believe that a “Pro-reviewer” would be satisfied with this level of ignorance. I mean, they are pro’s at playing a video game. This is serious stuff if the “pro” players are saying this.

Someone please take away my sarcasm hammer.

“The reviewers all seemed to play the game the same way, their approach was to clear zones, ding level 80 then wonder where the endgame content is.”

So all of them failed to read up and understand the basic game design? I find this hard to believe…

Its you people that say “its fine, let them leave in droves” that are going to long term harm this game.

You know what would be even worse for it? If ArenaNet did a complete 180 on everything they’ve been saying for the past three years just to cater to a no-lifer minority that still thinks MMO = gear treadmills.

Everything on this game is a treadmill. like any other mmos, all they did was make the leveling process abit more fun (which it was).

So why can’t they have an end-game with the same philosphy? why would making a fun end-game be against this philosophy?

BEcause casuals like yourself would complain you couldn’t get epic gear because you don’t like raiding?

Well why doenst “if you dont like it dont do it” apply to people like you then? hypocritical waste of time.

You mean why can’t they change their vision and design for the game to be exactly like WoW and Rift and Aion, etc., etc., ad nauseum? Why should they? Why shouldn’t they be allowed… and heaven forbid, ENCOURAGED, to build the game that THEY designed?

Why, after only THREE WEEKS, should they bow to demands to change their entire concept and throw together a treadmill for those who can’t imagine there’s another way to do things.

Here’s an idea… let them build the game they want to build. Give them some actual time to realize their design. In the meantime, if you want to raid, run on over to WoW. I hear the Pandas are opening their doors in about a week.

I could hug you. Seriously, aNet should further embrace their original vision. The last thing I want is another WoW clone.

Just not happy that there is no well thought out level 80 content that ironically is not just a token/material grind with no challenge.

All content is still relevant at level 80 do to scaling. Just because the zone is 15-25 if that is your races leveling zone does not make it level 80 content.

Again (and this is no insult to you or other gamers with the same mindset) but you are treating this like a WoW clone where a level 15-25 zone is only relevant while you are level 15-25.

I know you have said you are 99% complete, but if true you raced through content expecting something at 80 that was never promised. You are not the person that GW2 was designed around, I know that is rough to hear as you bought it but really this game was not designed or intended for you. I think all ANet ever intended for a customer like you was that you would pick up the box, play for 200 or so hours, fully completing 1 character, and then hope you picked up the expansions to check out the new content.

Again that isn’t to insult you or anyone else like you, but honestly I don’t think this game was intended to be a traditional MMO, only an MMO in the basic definition of persistent world with multiple player characters logged on at one time.

You cannot seriously look me in the eye and tell me that the level 15-25 zone is relevant for my 80. This was one aspect of the game that they fed the players and hyped up. In practice, this is absolutely false. Beyond 100% completion, I have 0 reason to go back to the 15-25 zone.

But honestly why not? They put so much effort into the PvE world, all these differently occurring events, and art and music. Why can it not be a legitimate part of the game? of the end game? to explore and do everything? why is that not relevant? Not many MMOs have done scaling like this games does. It wants the players to take responsibility. So in that sense alone the rules change.

I don’t think it’s fair to say “thats unacceptable” simply because other MMOs have not done that. It’s just an added bonus to the dungeons, to the collect-em-all-recipe-madness, to the skill hunting, to the mystic forge, to the WvW, to the unlocking of everything WvW, to getting all the dyes, to getting the achievements.

It’s cool if it’s not worth it for you or if you dont enjoy it. But I ask again; just because you dont enjoy it, does it mean that the end game is just done poorly because its not WoW?

I knew. I knew back in 07 when this was announced that it would be different and a lot of people would want it to be the same as what they had played in the past, while simultaneously complaining about it being too much the same.

I think it’s important that we all chill, and let things smooth out. balancing with scaling, difficulty, population controls, bugs, and all the other things. I think that 6 months from now the game will feel very different. these things takes time. Many MMOs reach their prime 3-4 years after release.
GW2 just launched. its been a rocky road, a lot of people are confused about this game still, and 8 years of doing things differently will make it take time for many people to adjust.

peace!!

I couldn’t agree more! The original vision should simply be further embraced!

Can someone please explain to me this one thing

The problem is that gaming has become acceptable to the masses.

When gaming was niche, it was only played by those who enjoyed the game for its challenge, humor and fun. My pacman wore the same gear in every map. My eyeballs were the same color as everyone else’s in Haunted House. I look the same as everyone else in Dear Esther.

When the general populous got their hands on video games, it started to turn into some kind of stick/carrot “required” garbage. I suspect that the self-entitled baby-boomer generation is the majority of the whiner crowd. I have no stats or proof of this, just a general disgust toward the me-me-me generation.

I am not going to talk about my first, as I consider my first few characters as merely a way to learn how to play the game. They have all been re-made, as I have one of each class now in the leveling process.

I will instead talk about my Mesmer.
Level 30

I love the amount of distraction tools and enjoy the dancing in and out of combat. Playing a Mesmer requires finesse and allows for a lot of growth in learning to master it. One on one fights (elites/champions) is amazing fun.

The only downsides I experience are during certain DE’s. I simply cannot compete with more AOE capable classes regardless of weapon choice. I can get Gold most times, so i accept it as a minor weakness and a trade-off for the existing strengths.

1: Community
2: Fun, open, fluid PVE (not quest hub hand-holding, more like TRasa or GW2). I want to be “raided”, not always be the hero raiding the boss. DE’s do this to an extent.
3: PvP that is balanced separately from PVE balance

I also like the zone completion discount idea. Even if that was the only impact to the cost, it would be a really nice perk for those who explore (which itself is inherently travel).

Tying travel costs to player level is very unusual and illogical. Others have posted the idea(s) that cost should be zone specific, free when standing at a point and traveling to another one (thus only costing when out roaming) and overall lower.

These are all good suggestions in my opinion.

So then I think we’re all approaching the same sentiment
Travel changes needed

  1. If I’m right under a Waypoint and I want to go to another one in the same zone then much like the Asura Gates I should be able to pop over for Free or reduced costs, Otherwise if I’m out roaming about and need to get back quick to either sit somewhere safe for a bit and craft or chat or do whatever I darn well want then yes Per Zone Per Distance costs should apply
  2. Remove the stupid Player X level pays X amount to travel and instead implement Per Zone Per Distance Costs

I could certainly agree with this approach. Maybe even add that the jump to the region’s major city is free if you are standing on another waypoint (anywhere). Once there, Asuran portals are readily available.

There is a happy middle ground somewhere between the extremist clowns who want travel free, and those who have pushed it to its current level.

Being an extremist for your cause is not required to get your opinion on record, nor to get your point across.

I don’t have a problem with a reasonable charge for traveling in relation to how long it takes you to make a similar amount, but I don’t see how suggesting free travel is extremist given that map travel was free in GW1. Seemed to work out fine there.

I was more poking at the extreme lengths some were going to in efforts to try and “prove” their opinion as fact. Claiming the game would end, etc.

Free travel is not required for a game to survive. There is a middle ground.

I can agree with you on this. The game will survive either way. But discouraging people from helping lowbies and discouraging people from getting together with their friends in general will have a less than positive effect on the social aspect of this game.

We agree there for sure.

Anet: make all the changes you need to keep the game fun and profitable. While doing so, you also need to communicate in a way that is DIRECT. We are your customers, not just turds playing a game.

Your latest wave of changes upset some folks—it is in your best interest to listen to this feedback and truly consider the impact the changes have caused. If was unintended (running them as fast as some have) that is fine. If you consider running dungeons efficiently an “exploit”, you need your head checked.

Wow Tradewind reading your posts, you sound like a real downer. Go outside and have some fun, life is a wonderful thing.

This is what I mean by “doesn’t translate.”

No it does translate. I have seen people like you so I understand but I don’t think your helping yourself at all. It’s you that doesn’t understand other people. If people can all chat with each other and have a good time and you’re the only one who thinks they’re “unwashed masses”, then clearly they’re not the problem.

Obviously you didn’t read it all that well because that’s not at all what was said.

But carry on, I’m actually not being crass or anything but clearly you’ve interpreted it differently.

When multiple others interpret your posts the same way, it may be time to refine your communication skills, instead of trying to refine everyone else’s interpretation skills.

Your writing posture does not translate into socially decent communication, no matter how many times you say we are interpreting it improperly.

“Remove the holy trinity and what do you get?”

Answer: A different way to enjoy a video game.

Many others have already offered wonderful responses/counters to the OP. I won’t waste much time on it. I am very glad the holy trinity is not here. If I want to “tank” or “heal” (which I often do in MMO’s) I know where I can go find it. GW2 is a fresh take on group strategy.
