The second one, tought you should work your dyes there, its too much black.

really don´t get this complaint.

It´s a thief. He´s supposed to be low key and dark to blend in with the shadows

If you like black, that’s fine.

Technically speaking, traditional “ninjas” didn’t wear black, but dark blue. Also, it’s better camouflage to have some sort of pattern than one flat colour as you’ll blend into your surrounding better, rather than be a block of one colour.

Here is what you look for I think.

The problem is deep within the technology behind the forum structure itself. Yes, we had a search engine in the beginning, but it was broken by our forum contractor in the course of working on other things. We no longer have a relationship with that contractor or his company, and someone else is not able to step into the system and fix the search engine because (1) our programmers are tasked with other essential work, (2) the forums run on a web framework with which most of our programmers are not familiar and (3) we’re investigating other options for forums and it would not be prudent to pour money into hiring someone to fix this as a short-term solution.

Wonderful! Thank you very much

So, here’s what I heard/read:

They got an external developing team to design the website. This meant that all development was left to a team outside of A-net’s control.

The company the team belonged to ended up disappearing.

So now, A-net can’t do anything to address the broken search bar, nor can they get the developers to fix it. To fix it, they’d have to make an entirely new website… which is inconvenient cost-wise and for the fact that we’d lose the 3+ years of threads here.

Using the “they spent $200k on a PvP tournament” argument is absolutely unnecessary. Funding a serious esport tournament, to advertise GW2 and to bring in more players, has its own long-term benefits.

You can just get google to search for you, though. You can follow Gaile Gray’s directions here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Searching-the-Forums/first#post4701411

Y’all just need to calm down

I’ll see if I can get any evidence support the “web developers gone bust” theory and edit it in if I do.

This has been a losing fight for over a year now. The fact of the matter is that it’s easy to make outfits (armor entails clipping), and anet has shown through all of its actions it’d rather do what’s easy than what’s good/right.

Well, A-net is a business after all. They’re going to make the best move economically.

Not entirely discrediting the forum complaints about “not enough armours” here, but it’s not exactly a valid way of discerning whether outfits are more or less popular than armours.

My guess is that if they were to stop making outfits (to make armours), people would also be complaining a bunch, heck- maybe even more.

So, I would bet that outfits are ultimately more profitable and popular, considering that A-net have the metrics from the gem-store to work with, and are constantly churning out more outfits.

If you don’t know difference between outfits and skins, well then, so be it.

Pretty sure Wanze was referring to these 3 skins, available in game (outside of the gemstore) :

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Nightfury_Skin
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shackles_of_Madness_Skin
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Karka_Helm_Skin

Interesting to point out that once again, these armour pieces are just head, shoulders and gloves. Like Wanze said, chest and legs are a clip-fest waiting to happen. I can think of a few gem-store armour sets that have been just head, shoulders and gloves (and in one case, feet). Lawless, shadow of the dragon, Scarlet’s, Toxic… perhaps there are more.

Also, head, shoulders and gloves are pretty gender-netural (and apart from gloves, race-neutral too). Chest and leg pieces probably take the longest to design because there need to be multiple different designs to accomodate both male and female forms. I would imagine that there would be some altering (or lengthy design process) to ensure that a chest piece looks good on both the skinniest sylvari and the burliest norn.

What Wanze said in his previous posts (regarding clipping) is also very true. Outfits are far easier to make than full armour sets. My guess is that they also sell better because they’re slightly cheaper and any armour class can use them. Outfits appear as regularly as they do because they’re easier to make. You certainly can’t expect to see 3 armour skins in-game (one for each weight) in the same time you can expect to see one new outfit.

PS: To quote somebody, you hit the “quote user” button (looks like an arrow on the bottom right of the person’s post). You then get led to a proper reply box page (instead of the quick reply box you see at the bottom of the thread page). You can then write whatever you want underneath the text that’s already there. You don’t need to have the quote and your response in separate posts.

EDIT: Looks like you got your responses and learnt how to quote properly in the time it took me to write my response. Oh well. :P

For instance, I have the glittering wings backpiece on one of my characters, but use the black feather wings when gliding.

You shouldn’t get rubbish at all (i.e. common dyes), it’s a laughable mechanic.

It would be like going to the bookstore to buy a new book only to have the owner say there’s a 75% chance I’m buying the book I already have back at home. That’s just crazy.

Except it’s not, because the item itself is the equivalent of a real life “mystery bag” or “blind bag”. If you want a specific dye, you can buy it directly from the TP.

Welcome to gamble wars 2.

Most things are like this- exclusive dye packs have been around since just a few months after launch, and have always been the same. 6 exclusive dyes in a wide pool of non-exclusive dyes.

The tool-tip even says: “Double-click to gain one random _ color. Includes a chance at 1 of 6 exclusive colors.”

I mean, maybe it should go as far as saying “Includes a chance at 1 of 6 exclusive colors out of a pool of 25 dyes”… but let’s face it, it’s normal for businesses to not inform up-front about these things, to take advantage of a non-informed audience.

Moral of the story: Use the wiki to learn about gem-store products before you buy them. You can avoid disappointment this way. Often the wiki provides drop rate research as well, so you can weigh up your chances of actually getting something good. In most cases, it’s actually more worthwhile to convert the gems into gold.

As a fresh 80, the overall plan is to lay a solid foundation that can help you along with the rest of your journeys.

So, starting from some of the most important ones:

-Full exotic gear. This might only be worth your while after discovering which build you like. If you’re struggling with staying alive, it’s still ok to use offensive stats on most of your equipment, but use something more defensive for your trinkets. If you can’t afford exotic just quite yet, start off with some rare gear and work your way up.

-100% world completion. This is the primary mid-to-long term goal I always recommend to start off with. Not only do you get to explore a beautiful world, it will help you to hone your skill, learn your build and understand some lore. Having waypoints across the world will make it so much easier for you to quickly get to guild mission locations, world bosses, vendors and locations for achievements. Gathering whilst exploring will land you with a tidy amount of materials under your belt, which can be sold for some sweet gold. The 100% will also land you well on your way to being able to unlock your elite specialisation, if you have HoT.

-Personal Story. Admittedly, story isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but I’d recommend doing it on your main character. I have found it enjoyable many a time, the exp rewards aren’t bad and I like to think it gives some good direction regarding map exploration.

OK, so you’ve done that… what next? These are a little more optional and really depends on what you like in GW2:

-Living Story Season 2. Unfortunately LS1 isn’t replayable (at least, for now), but if you liked the personal story, I’d certainly recommend this. It also will tie you into HoT story and the current events in Tyria.

-HoT, masteries and elite specs. I’d only recommend doing the majority of this after you’ve experienced the majority of what the core game has to offer.

-Achievement Hunting. Take a look at your Achievement Panel and have a browse. Use it as a way to direct your game-play and to discover new things.

-Thinking about fractals, raids or just generally having BiS gear? Log-in every day and save up your laurels. Consider levelling a crafting class suitable for your character. Start early- saving up enough for ascended gear will take a while!

-Start working on your aesthetic and wardrobe- people don’t call it “Fashion Wars 2” for nothing

-Start another character. Experience a different race and their story. Try a new profession, explore different ways of playing.

-Joining a guild (if you haven’t already) might be helpful- guildies are a great way to learn more about the game or get a foot-in-the-door to group content.

I’ll add more if I think of anything!

Account visibility/location- against stalkers

I don’t understand a few things
How does he know that you play guild wars 2? and how does he know your nickname in game
maybe you have some spy cameras installed in you room

It’s a very naive thing to assume that all stalkers are “randomers” (i.e. people you’ve never had a relationship/connection with). Most stalkers have known their stalker on a personal level, and thus know a lot of their personal details, which is one of the reasons why they are so virulent.

I understand your point, but making a new account with a new nickname should solve the problem, at least in game, right?

Perhaps if you re-read the OP you’d understand the complexities of the situation, and why the OP is asking for better privacy management/features in-game?

Can you join a large guild and mass report the stalker if he shows up? I mean u can report someone for harassing another person (not yourself) right?

Mass reporting doesn’t necessarily expedite any sort of action from A-net.

The other thing is, when you report, only a small aspect of them game is looked at regarding the offender. You can report for verbal abuse (which is the go-to for any harassment) but really I assume only the chat is looked at.

So actually, mass reporting could look very suspicious, without obvious cause for the report. Falsely reporting is against the rules too, and if there’s cause for concern that this is the case…

In such a complicated case, you have to take it to CS. Provide screenshots or video if you can, fully explain everything. Be as detailed as possible.

And yet the problem is, a stalker isn’t going to just quit if his account gets banned. I think in some instances that would rile the stalker up more and they would be more angry that their target is “hurting” them (if they had any particular investment in the account). The stalker would just make a new account and repeat the process.

Spoilery conspiracy theories below:

I don’t think we have seen the last of Mordy. This idea is not my own, but I believe that when we killed Trahearne, we actually “reinvigorated” Mordremoth rather than finishing him. Trahearne had the seed of Mordy’s corruption in his mind, and when we offed him with the Caledbolg- an incredibly magical sword that indirectly comes from Mordremoth- we gave Mordremoth the energy it needed.

We even saw in the last cutscene magic coursing down the leylines across Tyria. I guess one perspective is that it’s some sort of “cleansing” magic. What I believe is that any sort of change in ley energy causes an imbalance. Scarlet caused and imbalance to awaken Mordy in the first place.

Analysing things on a story perspective, like the OP said, the story doesn’t feel rounded off or concluded. It’s abrupt- too abrupt, and doesn’t seem to follow the kind of finish we usually get from A-net.

I expect LS3 and probably even an LS4 covering further Mordy events. We know that each Elder Dragon has a weakness, a “rival” elder dragon to balance the magic consumption and to create some sort of equilibirum. Mordy’s opposite is Zhaitan (according to The Machine/Eternal Alchemy cutscene).

Also, during the HoT Story, we get told of a weapon/way to kill Mordy, but it’s never mentioned to us. I think it’s like this on purpose, rather than some sort of oversight after cutting the script down.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Buying gold

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Paraphrasing the real question here, but “What’s the difference between trading gold (for money) with a real life friend and buying gold through a gold-seller?”

Well, in many cases (like Pax above me says), A-net have taken action upon accounts who have been participating in “suspicious activity”. For instance, you could innocently be sending money or high value items to a friend as a gift (or as part of an in-game trade) and get suspended or even banned. You then would have to contact CS to query the action, and probably have to supply evidence to support the fact that you weren’t involved in RMT.

My guess is that the game flags suspicious transactions, but also considers communications/transactions between accounts that have been involved with RMT. So, for instance, you could be flagged if you received 500g from a friend, but you might get doubly-flagged if that “friend’s account” has been previously reported for gold-selling, scamming or the account has been reported hacked. I would assume that RMT in a cash-in-hand way (with friends) is much more difficult for A-net to detect than using a website, simply because of the paper trail.

The ToS clearly states that real-money trading is against the rules. I have heard of people getting suspended or banned from the game because of RMT, so it’s certainly something that gets dealt with.

Finally, there is a massive risk on your own account if you use RMTs, as previously mentioned in the thread, they ask for account details and ultimately can get your account hacked to use for advertising, or you’ll log-in to see your characters, inventory and bank completely bare. That is how they get the gold, after all. It’s not a victimless crime, and I sincerely hope you vote against using such sites.

I found this site yesterday- I’d urge you to give it a quick read (especially the “types of stalker” bit) if you are not familiar with stalking and the reasons why they do it. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/talking-about-trauma/201306/in-the-mind-stalker

Here’s a quick summary for those who don’t want to read through a wall of text:

Reasons why (according to the victim) a stalker stalks:
-36.6% retaliation, anger or spite
-32.9% control
-23.4% mental illness or emotional instability

“Types of stalkers” as defined by stalking expert, Paul Mullen.
-Rejected: Often are trying to seek revenge for the end of a relationship with the victim.
-Intimacy Seeker: Often stalks a complete stranger under the delusion that their love is reciprocated.
-Incompetent: Believes that remaining close will lead to a relationship with their victim, to satisfy their need for contact and intimacy.
-Resentful: Feels that they are the initial victim (through direct/indirect humiliation or unfair treatment), and is seeking revenge.
-Predator: Has no desire for a relationship, just a sense of power and control. They fantasise about assaulting their victims.

Also, just to address some things said in thread, you can’t really compare bullying to stalking. A bully is usually somebody provoking for a response and often get tired if they are ignored. Stalkers don’t seem to care if there is a response or not, they are obsessed beyond rationality (usually because of mental illness and personality disorder).

Crimson Clouds.4853

I’ve personally have been fortunate enough to never been stalked, but understand the lengths that somebody would go to just to pester, harass, or try to “connect” to somebody.

It is really important to reiterate this point: stalkers are not reasonable human beings. They are absolutely obsessed with their stalking. The other thing is, even if a stalker cannot directly contact or communicate with you, just their presence can be off-putting, often because they have directly caused harm to the victim in the past. Stalkers will go to great lengths to find a way to their victim and it’s entirely possible that they’ll get others to relay information or communicate on their behalf.

I was under the impression that if you are being stalked online, that you should avoid any website that they may be able to track you on. It’s too risky, the “availability” of your presence is too enticing for the stalker. This being said, it’s a great sadness that you would have to give up something you love because of some horrible low-life.

But here’s the deal: Why can’t A-net change both the victim’s and the uncle’s account names (and char names?) at the same time as banning the stalker’s account? This way, even if the stalker makes a new account, adding the old names to his friends roster will turn up nothing.

It would be great for more privacy features to be added, but I can understand that desgining and coding such things would take time.

What's up with rep requirements?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Personally I think any guild asking for 100% rep are silly, for the reasons already suggested in the thread. 100% rep no longer has the real benefit of what it used to have (influence). I actually made the same statement before HoT, when the guild changes were newly announced; people there were adamant that 100% rep would still have a place.

I think the guilds who still do it do so because they don’t want to change this “tradition” or admit that the previous ways of running things no longer really work. For instance, in the guilds I’m in and know, most demand that all guild missions are run at a certain time on a certain day and can only be started by an officer with permissions, although nowadays it makes more sense for many of them to be started whenever enough people are online to do them (and started by anybody), particularly the PvP ones and Trek so more people can get personal rewards.

Other than that, 100% rep is some sense of loyalty. Perhaps it’s to prevent these people from using other guild’s (more developed) GHs? This would mean that members of the 100% guild would feel more compelled to donate and develop the GH as they won’t be able to use another GH? I don’t know- it all seems forced, and I don’t think adding strict limitations is going to really increase the willingness of donation.

Oh, and so that members are “advertising” the guild by showing the 100% rep guild all the time. This would make more sense for medium-large guilds with an already heavy presence though, I think.

Question About GW2 Craft

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

I was talking about the crafting guides, did you not see the title?

I saw the title and googled it because I’ve never heard of it. It looked like 3rd party software. If it’s not, I can’t help you because I’ve never heard of it. If it is, don’t use it. I definitely wasn’t going to click the site because it’s description is incredibly suspicious.

Godmoney, see above and don’t chime in.

I can understand being weary of suspicious-looking sites- it’s a sensible way to be on the internet in general.

However, you can research the site without clicking on the link. Google is useful- I already know a lot about the site, but after searching “what is gw2 crafts.net” a few search hits came up with enough information to give a reasonable understanding of the site.

There’s no point jumping to conclusions and using misinformation like what was present in your initial response- I totally get the desire to be helpful, but offering advice if you’re not at all knowledgeable about a subject is just not worth your while.

This being said, I have seen previous comments where people say that they are a little mistrustful of the website simply from how it looks. My guess is the simple layout along with red down arrows (that appear similar to icons that look like ones accompanying a “download” button) can give people the wrong idea.

But no, it’s certainly not a nefarious site. There is no software/add-on aspect to it at all. It’s a guide site, and is well-known among the community, just like dulfy.net. The only negative thing I’ve heard about it is tinfoilhattery at its best, where people believe that the algorithms the site uses directly benefits the creator (e.g. using particular recipes to drive up certain material costs that the creator is flipping/investing in).

Anyway, I’ve always found the site very useful. The direct instructions make levelling crafting far simpler and cheaper than if you were to try to figure crafting out yourself.

@OP, looks like you’ve already got your answers. It’s down to personal preference on what you value more, convenience or savings. Personally, even though I’m quite a savings-oriented person, I opt for the Fast Guides. Unless you’re very good at keeping track and following instructions, the long lists of what to buy and what to make can get confusing after a while, and I’ve found that I’m more likely to make a mistake (and waste more money) using the normal ones. There’s also not too much difference regarding price, but it’s always worth comparing total values to check.

Why are crafted backpacks account bound?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

I think they are account bound as it’s a bit of exclusivity locked behind crafting professions, perhaps to make them a little bit more important/interesting? I kind of like it this way.

I guess it could be seen either way regarding the new Scribing profession and their back-packs. If I see a player with Scribe backpack I see it as a bit of a prestige item, and I guess I’m impressed by it. It sucks that the last skin is locked behind thousands of gold, but it’s purely aesthetic and it’s not a limited supply item- if you want it, you can certainly get it over time, especially when materials get a little cheaper too.

As for the fact you can’t salvage it… I haven’t checked, but does the exotic/rare version require any ectos (or T6 materials)? Because in that case, I would assume it’s to protect the ecto economy, from people obtaining something that could salvage into ectos that is otherwise cheap to craft.

Thirdly, I’d recommend mixing and matching. It’s ok to change out armour parts in a set that you don’t like. Often there are other choices that have similar features/patterns/embelishments that still look the part.

Outfit/Armor Suggestion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

This sort of thread has come up time and time again. I’d recommend googling similar topics and having a quick flick through them.

Here’s a quick summary of why your suggestion can’t/won’t happen:

-New outfits appear often and are cheap because they are fast to design as they are one solid piece (apart from headpiece). Your suggestion would mean that the design process would take a fair bit longer, meaning fewer and more expensive outfits.

-Outfits will never be able to be mix and matched because how current armours work. Different armour weights cannot be mixed together because the game is not coded that way, and aesthetically it would be terrible. The waist-bands (for instance) on light, medium and heavy are placed differently, resulting in clipping if pieces were mixed.

-Outfits are inherently designed to be outfits- they are not built around the separate head/shoulder/chest/gloves/legs/feet template used for armours. There are features on outfits that would not make sense if changed to armour skins.

-Outfits and armours serve two different purposes and each fulfill their tasks wonderfully. Outfits have always sold better than armours- I assume this is one of the reasons gem-store armour skins will become a thing of the past.

Um, food, what’s the problem here?
Also wish people including Anet would stop using urban dictionary as a credible source of information. Almost all of the words have definitions on that website that are deemed inappropriate content. If you take them seriously, what’s to stop trolls from putting any IGN into urban dictionary, then flagging the name to have it removed?

Where’s the official source that A-net use UD to ban names? I really doubt this is the case. Like I’ve already said, yeah, sure a “hashbrown” is a food item to breakfast-loving human beings, but “hash*****” is obviously a trigger for the non-human filter.

And to be honest I’m pleased that the filter is this unrelenting. There’s a pudding in Britain called “Spotted kitten” (kitten = duck with an i instead of a u). It’s a sponge-pudding filled with raisins (similar to Figgy Duff if you’ve heard of that). I mean, sure, that’s also a genuine food article, but I’m sure that somebody could use this in a non-innocent way.

Not to mention, the previous “kitten” can also be used as a genuine name, and is a popular shortening of the first-name “Richard”.

Tl;dr: My point is, there are lots of words that can be used in both innocent and foul ways. It’s best that the filter is this sensitive, because I’m sure that in such instances more people would use the words in explicit ways than not.

Racial Elite Specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Love the idea, but there’s a reason why racial skills are underpowered.

A-net didn’t want race to be a limiting factor for game-play. If race played a large roll in build-crafting, people would get restricted to playing a certain race because one race would be better in particular areas of the game than others.

The current racial skills are purely for flavour/aesthetic and are deliberately underpowered so they don’t compete with class skills.

If someone at Anet saw your name and instantly thought of drugs, then we know what kind of folks are working at Anet…. The heck with Urban Dictionary too! You put it in Google and you get the correct answer which is a food.

It’s likely not a human evaluating character names in character creation.

The names go through a filter to make sure no offending words are present.

Besides, if “Hashbrown” was allowed yet “Hash” was not, I’m sure there would be similar instances where people would purposely use the allowed version to evade the filter and still use it in an obviously sinister way.

Yep, not surprised they’ve gone up.

As you said:

-Ley Infused Tools (for GH)
-Celestial Gossamer Insignias/Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions (also required for GH)
-Generally for Celestial stuff, the meta has been shaken up a bit- it wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of folk are using Celestial gear in HoT maps for extra survivability, but also possibly for raiding

I think it would be difficult to bring back Labyrinthine Cliffs, considering it was a (temporary?) zephyrite settlement, and the zephyrites didn’t fare too well in LS2.

Nikkle has a great point in that quartz price often crashes during Wintersday, so I guess there’s that.

Other than that, I think it’s very tricky to add quartz nodes into the game. Consider that as a material, it’s used in very few areas really and certainly shouldn’t be compared to other mine-able materials.

I would guess that A-net’s plan was to actually increase the value of quartz anyway- it’s certainly not just some coincidence that celestial inscriptions/insignias and ley infused tools are required in fairly large amounts for the GH.

Yeah, I’d guess it’s something to do with “hash” being a possible drug reference.

This all being said, I’ve had similarly weird experiences… I think a character I was trying to make a while back was called “Linna Speilsdottir” or something similar. I couldn’t think of any reason why this would come up as offensive.

I guess the system might try and detect “creative misspellings” of particular words, and considering the last has similar letters (p, e, i and s) to the proper term for male genitalia, maybe that’s what set it off?

Google translate strikes again!

I think the OP is asking for a “key wallet” for the chest keys in HoT. This has already been discussed/mentioned by devs and I believe they said that they are looking into it, but no promises. I’ll see if I can find an official red post.

EDIT 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3qjiul/theres_way_too_many_items_in_hot_that_should_have/
CJ: “Thanks folks – we’re aware of this and working on a list of which ones seem appropriate, know we missed some!”

This has in fact already happened, a number of materials got added to the material collection tab and so far nothing regarding keys has happened yet.

Does Diminishing returns really happen ?

DR does happen, and it’s most (objectively) noticeable in terms of event rewards. When you get hit by DR, you’ll see the normal amount of karma, exp and gold start dropping away.

Apparently DR is reset on daily reset, but I’ve heard that jumping into another area and doing a few events there also resets DR as well. If in doubt, change up your routine for a little bit and jump back in and see if you’re still being affected.

Gathering nodes are meant to only reset with the daily reset.

But that doesn’t make sense, cause I gathered them all, then teleported to a waypoint, came back and they had respawned. I then went to character select, came back, and boom, they respawned as well. It was only when I tried it the third time that they didn’t respawn and have yet to do so.

FIFY

Like I said, there’s a bug.

Trust me, I’ve been gathering that farm a lot. What you’re experiencing is a bug, and it’s not meant to happen. Only count on the nodes refreshing once a day.

Gathering nodes reset with the daily reset.

This. Each character can gather the farm once per day.

BUT there is a bug in-game currently where if you WP away from a previously gathered node/node farm and return, for a few seconds the nodes will appear as refreshed for a few seconds before disappearing again.

Sometimes this can net you another whole gathering strike on jus one of the flax plants.

It’s certainly not worth trying to trigger the bug (aka exploiting it) simply because the pay-off isn’t very large. If you want to farm more flax, I’d just recommend running around and gathering. There is also another flax farm in Tangled Depths, but depends on an event chain (apparently) to be able to access it, and is also difficult to access anyway and guarded by lots of mobs.

Don’t take me 100% on this, but so far they seem to be starting to implement a bi-annually rotation of stock in the gem-store. Zodiac armour was removed sometime in April, and brought back in September (when other armours were removed).

So if anything, expect this armour set to return in April. But who knows, maybe we’ll see a flash sale during Wintersday or Black Friday.

Free accounts

The problem now is, that they don’t need to buy the game, as they are unlimited in their free to play version.

This is absolutely incorrect, F2P accounts have a huge multitude of restrictions. (https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/95982157-Account-types-Free-Core-HoT)

Unless of course, you mean unlimited purely in terms of time.

But I really don’t get your problem. You’re telling me that F2P accounts are leeching and that’s a big problem. I don’t think this is a F2P account problem, people have been leeching for ages with all kinds of account types.

F2P accounts have a tiny effect on the economy, so it’s not like these F2P accounts are karma fat-cats turning their karma into some tidy profit. Karma items are not directly tradeable (require 4 lots of them and the MF to get around this) and F2P accounts are limited hugely on what they can sell on the TP anyway.

If these accounts were botting, then yes, that is a problem as it’s against the ToS.

Perhaps stat-changeable gear is expensive for a reason, as it circumvents the need to have multiple copies of the same weapon with different stats… meaning more inventory space is required, meaning more gem-store sales of bag-slot expanders?

EDIT: My point being, sure I totally agree that your suggestion is directly beneficial to the playing community. It’s a nice suggestion, for us. But almost everything has a knock-on effect regarding A-net’s profits, and largely game decisions have to be viewed in this way. Is it beneficial enough to the community to compromise A-net’s expenses, and to possibly upset the “legendary” community?

Wouldn’t this idea somewhat invalidate the idea of legendary weapons (and armour)? The idea for legendaries (aside from the aesthetic side of things) is the added bonus and convenience of stat-swapping.

Allowing ascended to do the same would seem like a kick-in-the-teeth for people who bought or crafted legendaries for this purpose.

Obsession with trench coats

Crimson Clouds.4853

You’re not the only one. I agree, there needs to be more variation amongst medium chest pieces. The sad thing is, armour sets are fairly different design-wise, just the “trench-coat” look dominates the whole design of the armour.

For example, you can make a bunch of different looking armours with parts from a “trenchcoat” armour, but using non-trenchcoat chest pieces (Krytan Jerkin and Strider’s Chest on humanoid females, Glorious Brigandine for everybody, ).

tinfoilhatmode
Funny how the majority of these non-trenchcoat armours are on the gem-store. Obviously they go for the unique/added variety angle for gem-store items, but this difference is really striking regarding medium armours available in-game and in the cash-shop. It’s possible that this is entirely on-purpose to drive up gem-store armour sales.

There’s a bi-annually rotation on the gemstore currently.

The skin in question was removed a few weeks back- I’d predict that it will next be available in spring 2016, along with the removal of Zodiac armour and the reappearance of Flamewalker/wrath/kissed armours and Trickster’s and Viper’s armour skins.

Tattered bat wing price

Crimson Clouds.4853

I agree with what’s been said.

Bat Wing Brew (I believe is needed in the crafting of nightfury) has gone up, since the end of halloween. I assume because this is the more expensive part of the item, few people want to actually make it considering the main bulk of the cost is going up (it was slightly cheaper during halloween).

I guess it’s a strange relationship between the event exclusive items.

The other thing is, perhaps because the halloween hype is over, people don’t want to look spooky? Maybe fewer people are making nightfury because other gold sinks have been added/fixed (looking at you, precursor crafting).

Guild tax idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Rather than make it a tax, make it something the guild gets automatically as a result of you being a member and doing things in game. If you are a member in 5 guilds then it’s split 5 ways.

I’m not sure I like the idea at all, as i can see it as another way of promoting mega guilds to get things in game, where small guilds could not compete.

This, and what Lanfear said.

People shouldn’t be essentially punished for being in a guild.

Also, you can’t force people to donate- if your guild is struggling to get the materials for the next upgrade fast, that’s just how it is. The guild halls are meant to take a while.

If anything, there should be incentive to donate (or remove obstacles). Here are some ideas:

-“Donater of the Day/Week/Month”- crown and praise the person donating the most in a time period, in guild chat, with their own rank, a reward or in the Message of the Day.

-“Donater Lottery”- For those who donate, they get automatically entered in a guild-run lottery. For example, lottery drawings are held every week. You get 1 “ticket” if you donate on a day, meaning a total of 7 tickets can be held be each persion.

-Do a poll in guild chat or external media sites to work out which upgrade your guild values most to start focusing on next. By aiming your sites to one spot together, you’ll complete each upgrade sooner.

-If you need a particular material, organise a guild farm for it. For example, need PvP potions? Run a guild PvP session/offer groups for PvP until you reach the amount needed. Same applies for farming materials.

-Are there expensive crafted items that are required but aren’t being donated? Put a message in the MotD to get your guildies to send the necessary materials to a trustworthy officer/leader so they can accumulate materials and craft.

-Material count down: “Just 39 ectos until we can unlock X!” in guild chat, MotD.

-If you want a sort of “guild tax” system, make it some sort of “premium membership” deal. Opt-in, Xg a week and you’ll have a different tag in the roster, perhaps extra perks too. Similar to a previous idea, you could run a guild lottery where half of proceeds will be put towards the guild hall.

But this all being said, I don’t think A-net should add a feature that caters for this. The kind of non-inclusive mentality and elitism that it could nurture isn’t healthy for the game. In a lot of respects, it is similar for people asking for an AP filter in the LFG. Yeah, people will do it anyway, but A-net supporting this idea isn’t positive.

New elite specs years away?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

I expect new elite specs to be tied with future expansions.

In the new maps there are enough hero points to fully unlock an elite spec. That’s probably no coincidence. I’m sure that they’d make a new elite spec fully accessible for a character with one already unlocked, or players would cry out saying they are forced to buy another character slot/level + explore on a new character.

I doubt we’d see elite specs before a future expansion because it requires so much beta testing and rebalancing before going live. The amount of work required to design an elite spec is quite high, meaning making and releasing 9 whole elite specs in an LS is unlikely. I doubt they’d release small numbers of elite specs as well (e.g. elite specs for 3 classes at a time) as I’m sure this would be frustrating for players who get the elite spec for their profession last.

Please introduce this new attribute: Agility

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

Not all boons need to be attributes. Sure, we have things like fury and might that directly tie into attributes/stats. These are quite easily accessible for most professions.

Things like quickness are far less accessible, and when they are, the buff only lasts a few seconds and are on long cool-downs. Having access to constant fast-casting and reduced cool-downs would make a lot of things redundant regardins skills and builds.

Quickness can be absolutely deadly to fight against, but, considering it’s a boon from a skill, it can be interrupted. This allows counter-play and ultimately makes things interesting.

What benefit does “agility” add to the game, and at what cost? A whole rebalance would be needed if such a thing was to be added- is it really worth it?

Climbing mountains -Suggestion-

Crimson Clouds.4853

This would be neat but a lot of people would say it’s immersion breaking or they would have to come up with a new climbing mechanic. They would also have to redo all the terrain and invisible walls they have set up. So in other words this would take a ton of time for developers and it’s something in sure they wouldn’t have time to do.

This, I’m afraid.

The terrain is as such for a purpose. It’s better than having invisible walls (because there’s nothing more immersion breaking than that). Having things blocked off is important and serves a number of purposes:
-limits map size
-stops players wandering to a part of the map which hasn’t been designed as playable (could be prone to bugs/terrain glitches)
-stops players “exploiting” areas, such as skipping parts of a jumping puzzles/event chains/bosses

And as for the advantages you listed? Well… it is fun to explore, and to get good views, but we already have plenty of those in-game. Vistas, jumping-puzzles, diving goggles, gliding… they all kind of serve this purpose. People are always looking for a higher place to reach, and no matter what method has been added by developers to reach a high place, players will always use void jumping (and other “non-immersive” techniques) to get there.

This isn’t completely updated with all the new BL/HoT skins, but it’s a start. The Steamblade looks quite mechanical.

Another easy way to browse skins is to go to a bank/crafting station and click the bottom-most tab (the icon looks like a closet). This will lead you to your wardrobe, and you can use the drop-down filters to sort by swords. Just click each icon and it will preview it for you.

The new plated/machined weapons look very mechanical… maybe not so much steam-punk as industrial, though.
