Can we have expansion 2 soon

Crimson Clouds.4853

I suppose there’s the hope that they’re busy polishing expac 2 before announcing it, but I kinda doubt that.

Look back to 2015. We had the announcement at PAX around February (?) that Heart of Thorns was coming. We then got the release date of late October. The footage we saw ended up being quite different to what we got, so I suppose it’s safe to assume that it was still heavily under development at announcement.

And then people complained that the expansion was full of bugs and didn’t offer the content that it said it would- at least not immediately.

I think asking for one by the end of this year is a little optimistic- unless, like I said, they announce an almost finalised product.

So…. would you rather wait for a complete expansion, or get an unfinished one “soon”? :P

How about an ultimate challenging mode for uber players.
When your character dies, the char is instantly deleted and you have to start all over from l1.
Wonder why noone will like this idea.

Pretty sure this is already a thing? I think Wooden Potatoes did a series on it, think it might be called the Ironman challenge or something

When you log , waypoint or use an Asuran gate, You go behind the scenes like at a theme park where there are lounges. and all sorts of amenities including bathrooms where you can take a break. While it seems only seconds betwwen screens is actually hours in the alt dimension.

I like to think that when you waypoint or use an asura gate, the current “you” gets destroyed and a new replica is created on the other end… just minus the impending bowel movements.

I remember there being some backlash about that event in Wayfarer Foothills where you kill a Dolyak and then throw nets at its frantic, floundering babies.

That makes me feel a little sad and uncomfortable too, but at least it gives more dimensionality to the game. I suppose it explains some of the lore behind dolyaks. The quest sort of serves a purpose.

Armor Repair feels pointless

Crimson Clouds.4853

I think the need to repair armour actually adds something to the game- especially difficult party-based gameplay.

It changes the flow of each attempt in a dungeon or fractal. If you suddenly realise that your armour is damaged or broken, it drives home that maybe the direction of your attempts to beat that area/boss isn’t right- perhaps the tactic needs to be changed or refined. If you don’t have repair cannisters, it forces you to take a small breather… and perhaps pick up equipment/food/boosters that might improve your attempts too.

At least that’s the way I’ve remembered it. Come back into a fractal after repairing and merching gives a fresh opportunity to chat with party members about the plan of attack. After regrouping we seem to clear the boss/level after a couple of tries.

My view is that humans have a very strange way of treating animals with favouritism. I don’t think that the controversy around the mini pet is A-net’s issue, but more of a social one. And it’s an uncomfortable one to think about- it’s convenient to only have to care about animals that are cute (to avoid having to think about the suffering we cause to the rest).

So in that respect, I agree that it’s a shame that most people don’t bat an eye if they see an animation based on the death throes of a real animal.

Sure, we see animations of animals and people being injured in game all the time. I suppose there are a couple of key differences here:
-The mini doesn’t seem relevant to current events (April fish, perhaps? shrugs)
-It’s perhaps a little too jarring/realistic to what we would expect animation/creature-wise in-game (i.e. a dying giant wurm head crawling across the ground is ok- that’s entirely a fantasy creature)
-Choosing a non-enemy (?) creature model that appears to be dying seems like a strange choice of mini pet in general.
-That a dying animal is being sold as a novelty/comedy item

I saw that somebody said that WoW had a fish in a floating water bubble mini. I think that sounds a lot more interesting aesthetically as well as less… weird.

So uh… I don’t think A-net should change the mini. It would’ve been nice if something different was chosen to begin with, but oh well, I just won’t buy it. I think the mini has started an interesting dialogue here as well, so there’s that.

Inb4 next mini available: a moa walking around with its head buried in the ground

Birthdays

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

I definitely think that there needs to be some way to trade the birthday scrolls in for something vaguely similar but more useful. For example, 20 or 30 tomes of knowledge- which at least can be used on a max level character to obtain spirit shards, right?

I have something like 18 character slots on my main account and I have way more scrolls than I’d ever use. I dread to think what it’s like for those who have reached max character slots. The real short sighted design is that I receive them at a rate in which I realistically wouldn’t be able to use them all up (by buying more slots) before receiving even more.

Ultimately I’d prefer something even more useful than exchanging them for tomes, but I think it would be difficult to strike a fair balance or offer something that is interesting but doesn’t require a heck ton of coding.
Like, being able to change 5 of the level 20 scrolls to unlock all hero points on a character would be wonderful (sort of similar to unlocking PvE heropoints in WvW), but I can’t imagine it’d happen. I can dream though

[Suggestion] Toggle for Eternity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

This is not a new suggestion- I’m pretty sure that there has been posts on this topic since Eternity came into existence.

On one hand, this is a positive thing as there are a few people who share your opinion, OP.

On the other hand, as far as I’m aware, no dev has commented on this issue.

Will there be some kind of “fix”? I seriously doubt it- the percentage population in-game who own Eternity is exceedingly low. Last I recall only 15% of the population own one legendary, let alone the most expensive legendary in-game. And there is an even smaller subset of people who only want one individual part of this weapon. So we’re talking maybe a fraction of a percent of the player base that this change would cater for.

It’s not necessarily an easy thing to implement when you have to consider that a number of different teams would have to work on this- and bug test it. These things aren’t a simple fix when there may not be any sort of foundation in-place for such a feature.

A-Net already made an active move to cut the amount of work that goes into legendaries (i.e. when the legendary collections got cut and then the system reworked)- because the time spent there could be allocated to areas of the game that many more people would experience and enjoy.

Granted- there are other weapons in game that are effected by day/night cycles. The ascalonian weapons are some- and they change from exceedingly dull to quite cool depending on the time of day. I’m not sure if there are any other instances of cycle-dependent skins though.

So… A more practical solution? Skin your weapon to which one you prefer.
For matching your armour with your weapon- have your armour dyed to match one and your favourite outfit dyed to match the other cycle of the weapon. Toggle your outfit depending on the time of day.
Try a black and gold dye combination- something that matches and suits both.

This all being said, I do hope that something is implemented- seems like it’d open up some customisation possibilities, and maybe make it easier to add other weapons/armour that cycle (without upsetting people).

Leveling fast. EOTM or Tyria exploration?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

Tyria exploration – mainly because if you want to get somewhere in PvE later on after levelling via other means, you could have done it anyway whilst levelling and gained XP. And karma and stuff too.

In my opinion this is the best way. You’ll get the waypoints, which will help when you need to get around, and you’ll get karma, gold, new equipment via karma vendors, and access to farming areas. Sure, the karma and gold might not be comparable to EotM, but it’s there.

This! Two birds, one stone really. Also helpful if you want elite specs. If you want to be efficient when exploring, try this: http://www.postcount.net/index.php?pageid=tdwindex
Some maps haven’t been updated for a very long time but the majority are still valid. I have used this site a few times and what I usually do is grab all the waypoints and then come back to do the tasks. I’ll stay for events that contibute to a task though, that sort of makes sense. I’ll also gather along the way, you’ll earn quite a bit that way too.

Fastest is still probably crafting, but that’s only viable if you have hundreds/thousands of gold to pour into materials. The most efficient crafting is using a crafting guide, and I find that so regimented and mind-numbing.

Marriable NPC's?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

I agree with Fleshie.

Let me frame it for you differently though.

The legendary crafting system (with scavenger hunts etc) got overhauled because the amount of time that went into their development was not proportionate to the effects it had on the population in-game.

This suggestion would seem like it would be in the same boat.

There would have to be separate story (writing, instances, voice acting etc) for each race and each gender. That autmatically brings you up to 10 different things. If you were to include same-sex marriage, that would cause differences regarding story (at the very least in terms of pronouns). Then if you were to have different background stories for different suitors and different personalities, suddenly there’s even more work to be done.

It’s already starting to sound like the story arc at the beginning of Personal Story… something that converges very early on to reduce the workload. Ultimately, most people are only going to see and hear one or two tracks of this hugely branched tree. Surely it’s better to put more effort into an area that everybody wants to experience than to spread themselves thin?

Maybe there’d have to be an update to the UI to show who you’re partnered with. Perhaps a way to show other people who you’re married to- something that would have to be designed especially. It would be a lot of work to make this worthwhile for RPers.
And it’s one of those things where people are already doing it on their own terms, using websites and the RP community to help immortalise their decisions.

Finally, in terms of story… Adding characters for the sake of adding characters isn’t very good story telling.. which is what you want in terms of roleplay, right? These potential suitors need a background. That means striking a balance between a guy we barely recognise and somebody who has implications in the story and them being involved with The Commander would have weird inconsistencies or plot holes.

Light, medium, heavy armour transmutation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

The mixing and matching of different armour weights is the key issue here- apparently the different armour weights are on different meshes (?) and thus can’t be combined without having to do an overhaul of the current system. Not to mention clipping issues as different armour weights have different “cut off points” on the body.

But if there was something to prevent you from combining different armour weights I don’t see a problem- or at least, I don’t know if there’s a technical issue that would prevent this from happening. I’m thinking perhaps you could have three different “skin templates”. When swapping around skins of mismatching weights, it would give you an error note and offer you to start playing dress-up in a fresh, clean template.

So you’re asking to know your GW1 character names? (Just asking- your question was a tad confusing to my groggy-early-morning brain)

But yeah, you can’t to find GW1 names to my knowledge. It was essentially a security question upon log-in and I don’t think A-net would release information like that in a way that could be looked up and connected to e-mail/other data.

I’d recommend seeing if you can find old screenshots, or ask old friends/guildies if they have any sceenshots or if they can remember one of your character’s names. Perhaps you can track it down if you were a member of the community outside the game (e.g. if you were part of a guild forum etc).

Fingers crossed that support will get back to you soon. As long as they can definitively prove that your GW1 account is yours, you should be ok.

Mursaat Outfit Incomplete

Crimson Clouds.4853

It’s really too late for A-net to add anything after the fact that it’s available for sale on the gem-store. You end up creating a divide in people, so they’d have to make sure that the change is demanded/wanted by the vast majority before committing to it.

Adding a floating animation would mean that all other animations would either have to be removed or reworked. For example, having a floating animation would remove regular movement animation, dodge animations etc etc. It would make your character look pretty static. I think that would make my character look pretty boring.

I don’t see a change to the outfit as possible, but perhaps adding a toy item would be possible, much like how the pirate outfit comes with one. Using the item would make you float ad offer costume brawl skills. This is a best of both worlds- you can choose when you want to be floating and players who want to run around normally can too.

My Cantha prediction is coming true

Crimson Clouds.4853

OP… I really don’t understand the logic in your argument.

I don’t understand how you can make the conclusion that Cantha (in particular) is coming because we’re receiving new maps more frequently. It seems like a lot of “what if”s stuck in series rather than any evidence or logic? Where’s the truth in your prediction- objectively speaking?

HoT was a bit of a flop- I can’t imagine a new expac being released any time soon because of that fact. I don’t think as many would pre-order expac 2 unless faith is restored in a lot of amazing LS content.

People were assuming that the first GW2 expac would be Cantha… purely because the first GW1 expac was. But it wasn’t. And like a lot of players have said, there is evidence to suggest that they will steer clear of Canthan stuff in general because it doesn’t fit the Asian market and is seen as insulting/appropriation.

Slightly unrelated, but I guess it must be a cultural thing? I don’t see people getting vocal about Nightfall being appropriation of Africa, EotN/Shiverpeaks being appropriation of northern europeans etc. I understand that the GW universe has taken elements of different cultures and stuck them together- is that what is inflammatory to some real life cultures?

YES! What a lovely idea.

A-net doesn’t even really need to make a new model- we have a load of ambient birds in game which they could use. I’ve heard that mapping dye sections is quite a job in itself (especially if they weren’t designed initially to have dye sections)… so that might be a problem. But personally I wouldn’t mind too muh if we couldn’t dye the bird…

I think that the “parrot” we see in the mail carrier item is quite versatile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmuRv3M3nKU

And on a similar note, the Raven mail carrier was released at the same time as the parrot one (and is an excellent contrast to the bright, colourful bird). I think just having these two birds would be selection enough

MF : worst scam ever ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

I hate to be the voice of hindsight but… always research before investing a lot of time or gold into something.

And the others are right- the silverwastes map and meta designed to be very direct content. They really wanted as many players as possible working towards the same goal (instead of farming event mobs) as a way of “beta testing” the meta system that was the basis of the HoT maps.

Secondly… I would try to avoid jumping to conclusions about drop rates. The difference in the quality of your drops is so small that it is easy to be affected by cognitive biases and false expectations. It’s also difficult to reach any sort of valid conclusion without playing for an extended period of time or without comparing drop notes before and after your MF increase (i.e. writing down all drops and comparing quality).

I don’t know exactly how MF works, but from what I understand the most significant difference is the improvement from white gear to blue (fine) gear and blue gear to green (masterwork) gear. At least, these are the drops you get most of anyway so the frequency of them lends itself to better statistics than counting how many yellows (rares) or oranges (exotics) you get in a standard session of play.

So… if I’m right in saying that, that means the most obvious thing you’ll notice with increased magic find is the amount of masterwork sigils and runes that clog up your inventory. I don’t think different rarity of items salvage into more/better stuff (aside from salvaging higher level rares for ectos and luck essence). So I’m willing to bet that the main increase in gold revenue is through selling those masterwork upgrade components.

I’m sure there is plenty of research (probably on reddit and maybe the wiki) about MF and interactions with drop rates. The problem is that it’s difficult to cut down extraneous variables.

On a final note… the difference magic find makes is subtle for a reason. It’s a way to give something veteran players to work towards for a small boost. You can’t have a huge/obvious boost or the economy becomes even more skewed in favour of the veteran players without giving the new guys a chance. tin foil hat I’d be willing to bet that on average you’d earn more gold back by investing in the TP than in boosting your luck. But at least maxing out your luck (with/without boosters) is a long term thing and you’ll benefit (however greatly/slight) for years to come.

Heart of Thorns Killed My Interest in GW2

HoT didnt turn me off, the lack of updates did though.

It’s still annoying that we’re getting story once every 2-3months. I much preferred the 2 week system as it kept me logging in and felt like there was always something for me to do.

I think this summarises my thoughts quite well.

But I feel that HoT just isn’t my kind of content. I like to run around solo or duo. I like to feel like I’m in control of my goals and progress, and leaving that sort of stuff up to a 2+ hour meta just doesn’t suit my play style. I like to progress a lot of characters and would’ve loved to experience full specialisations of them, but the idea of having to run through HoT areas for Hero Points is frustrating- especially when things are locked behind gates or are difficult to complete with a very small group. (And no, doing WvW for them isn’t really that interesting for me either).

I will point out that the OP is going to be the minority in this argument though. The people who have lost interest in the game are unlikely to check the forums whereas the people who have just got back into the game (or at their peak of interest) will be checking it often.

Question from Russian community

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

It wouldn’t require a new server. The servers with language designations are obsolete since magaservers came out. They also were ANet acknowledging something players did at launch, which was working out which servers they should go to for their own language. So even if arenanet added a new language there would be no new servers or new WvW.

If it brought a huge amount of new players to the game (y’know, for it to actually be worthwhile/beneficial for A-net), there would be a lot of Russian players who might not be able to communicate in English (which is why a translation would be needed).

A designated server would be ideal or existing residents of current servers would probably be annoyed if they can no longer communicate effectively in WvW. It’s not something I personally would complain about, but I’m sure that a good portion of players would (from previous experiences in-game). Besides, at launch there was free movement between servers, so people could easily move if they found out that their servers had been designated a certain language or play-style by the community. I think dropping the borders might be a little chaotic now.

These things do need to be considered, after all. Implementing a new localisation of the game has to be fair on existing ones too or else you risk losing players.

I’m not trying to be depressingly cynical- I think it would be great if more major languages had their own translations as I can understand that not being able to fully understand and appreciate a game would be annoying. I just think it would be very difficult for it to happen now.

Question from Russian community

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Your question is well written and understandable, so no need to apologise

A russian localisation (along with other languages) has been asked for a few times now, but I don’t think it’s going to happen unfortunately.

Translating a game is a never-ending task and very costly. Not only would they have to pay for the current game to be translated (a huge job in itself), any future releases or even updates would need translations too. A whole permanent team would have to be assembeled- a forum team, support team etc- just like how it is for the French, German and Spanish translations of the game. It would require making a new server for Russian speakers (or changing an old one and allowing existing residents to move freely) which would change how WvW match-ups work.

So then you have to look at how many new players will be brought to the game because of a Russian localisation, and how much money that will bring. I’m sure that Anet have considered localising the game for other languages, but if the cost is greater than the expected profit… well, they’re just not going to bother.

From what I’ve seen, Russian speakers already have a workaround. I’ve seen a few Russian guilds recruiting and people talking in chat using romanised russian. I’m sure it’s more inconvenient than being able to use the cyrillic alphabet.

Tl;Dr: The game is a business. Even if a translation would make things easier for Russian friends and entice more to play, if the profits don’t outweigh the costs, A-net is just not going to do it.

The only time I’ve seen an asura with facial hair is one of those “mentor” PS characters you choose at character creation. Considering how hairless they are portrayed (aside from the tops of their heads) I think it’s a bit odd.

Sylvari, however, I could see with facial hair. One of the faces in particular (the one that Canach has) has thorns in a beard/moustache-like pattern. Considering sylvari are modled after humans, it would be pretty in-like with the lore.

However, I think the reason why Norn and humans have lots of variety (and the option to have) facial hair is because there isn’t much customisation outside of that. Sylvari already have the broadest customisation options because of their colour, glow colour etc. Because humans (and thus norn) are already familiar to us in the real world, it’s important to have a realistic variety of customisation options or else they’d often feel same-y. (In my opinion, of course).

In conclusion/tl;dr: Perhaps ask for some sylvari faces that appear to have beards/facial hair. I don’t think A-net will add an option to have a range of facial hair that can be applied to any face (as it would require an extensive re-work), but asking for an exclusive face is very reasonable and much more likely to happen.

I never even thought of any of the NPCs you’ve mentioned as asian. I’ve always viewed Marjory as caucasian* and the two sylvari you mentioned are sylvari. If you’re talking eye shape, I know plenty of people from all kinds of ethnicities that have Canach’s eye shape.

I would only equate canthans as asian-appearing in the Guild Wars universe. I mean, you don’t get much more tastefully stereotypically asian as Master Togo or Shiro.

Maybe you have a problem. I don’t mind diversity and I don’t think “canthans” are being over-represented here.

EDIT: *apparently Marjory is of canthan decent. Still not asian, but as close as you could get to it in GW. For me, her ethnicity is pretty subtle (or perhaps I just never really thought about it).

Would you be open to Biracial NPCs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

I’ll be covering two points of view here; a personal one and a more objective one in regards to the game.

Personally, I don’t think inter-species/bi-racial NPCs should exist in the game for lore reasons. As has been already discussed, the playable races are very different genetically and it wouldn’t make sense. Sylvari don’t even appear to be mammals and can’t make offspring anyway.
That being said, there are some species that are closer imo where it could be more likely. For example Kodan/Norn, Quaggans/Pinipal… I’m not sure how related the frog races are but perhaps there’s possibility for them too. I would imagine that they would be infertile beings and may be ridden with problems- possibly even ostracised.

Finally, I guess lore-wise it could be explained by either a mad scientist/inquest asura experimenting, or a more “legit” asura trying to give a bi-racial couple a baby with the power of science and DNA splicing.

So that brings me on to the more objective viewpoint.
-What benefit would they have to the game?
-How much time would be required to write their backstory, design and create their unique models etc? And for what purpose?
-A “biracial” NPC might be interesting, but what would they bring to the table that another monoracial NPC couldn’t?

I’m thinking that the only time A-net would spend so much time to write in such a character would be to play a key role in the story, for example a new member of the Dragon’s Watch (or whatever it’s called now). But the niche for such a character would have to be oddly specific, and if they needed a flawed character that required a lot of character development with a tumultuous past… it wouldn’t need to be specifically a half-race.

Anxiety from Jumping puzzeles

Crimson Clouds.4853

I find that mild anxiety causes me to fumble on particularly testing JPs. It’s a vicious cycle, because I can feel myself getting worked up and know that it’s going to affect my jumping ability.

It’s much better if I complete the JPs with my partner. For really difficult ones we both go on our mesmers and use portalling to our advantage as a way to “save our progress”. Knowing that our work isn’t going to be completely undone by one mis-step is a great way to reduce that anxiety.

Take breaks and distance yourself too. If you feel yourself getting worked up, watch something relaxing and take your mind off of it. Leave yourself where you are and switch to another character.

I’ve also gotten a lot better since I accepted that I could always use a Teleport to Friend if it got really bad, or ask nicely for a mesmer portal in map chat or LFG. I’ll resort to Teleport to Friends pretty quickly if I can predict myself getting frustrated or panicky within the next couple of tries. I don’t see it as giving up, I recognise that I’ve given it my best shot at that time and allow myself to continue to something much more enjoyable. Accept help if you need it- the players around here are almost always very kind and willing to help. And if I feel like I’ve inconvenienced somebody for dropping a portal, I’ll send them a tip of a few gold. It’s a win-win!

This is what Im talking about. Im not talking about the specifics like skill points, vistas… I know I’m already 100% but for the individual named areas to discover on the map.

Hmm

Have you tried turning the content guide on? It’s under the graphical options (I think): https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Graphical_user_interface#Content_guide

I think it will show where a nearby unexplored area is, including things that don’t have “map points” on it. This is pretty handy if you want to find secret places like Griffonhook Run.

If you’re missing some areas for the Explorer title, check out the “Commonly Missed Areas” on the wiki: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Explorer (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Bluestone/Explorer)

I keep a spreadsheet of which characters have completed what maps.

Log in to each character, have GW2 and an spreadsheet both windowed and hover your mouse over each map to see how much completion you have in each.

It comes in very handy- for me, some maps are much more lucrative to explore over and over. For example, some people farm cities for transmutation charges, but I like to farm 60+ maps for the exotic gear and some mid-range maps for the materials I gather alone the way.

I only bother to update the spreadsheet if I have either 100%-ed an area, or say if I had run around it collecting waypoints for example. It’s useful to have conditional formatting to highlight almost completed maps or ones that are 100%. If you’re doing a lot of map/world completion, I find it really helps with the sense of completion and progress.

Asura Hairstyles in Character Creation

Crimson Clouds.4853

I’m trying to find a reason to disagree with you OP- like “Well, Asura have XYZ and other races don’t”. But yes, I agree with you- there should’ve been more asura hairstyles from the start.

But I think that ship has already sailed. I don’t see how they could add hairstyles to standard asura character creation without having to do something to the other races too. And besides, any cosmetic addition they add… they can earn a mint off of it, so it’s unlikely they’ll do it for free.

I’ve found that I can get a good variety of “unique” looks across my asura by being smart with the face sliders. There are a few faces which I would never consider because how scary/weird looking they are, but you can change their expression a huge amount by playing with the sliders. And the other option is to use headgear to obscure or hide their face/hair.

Other than that, you can preview the makeover kit selection at Aestheticians in-game: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aesthetician_
This way you can play around and decide whether you want to purchase a makeover kit or not.

Dyes matching a Machined Weapon inspired look

I’ve pasted a few colors, picked from differend places on the weapon and all I get is ‘No Results Found’ :s The ones I picked are:
#494039
#484b54
#25221d

It works fine for me- perhaps you’re pasting in the wrong box? I’ve attached a screenshot below- make sure you’re searching in one of the “cloth/leather/metal texture” search boxes, not the “color name” search box. (Shown by the red ring)

You can then order the search results by percentage by clicking the arrows on whatever material you want to look for in particular. (Shown by the green ring)

So yeah, your first colour you picked has a best result 99.4% match on the dye “Murky Grey”

Dyes appear as different colours depending on the material it is used on… so what I’m trying to say is that it might not be as easy a solution as just stating some dye colours.

I recommend this site: https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/tool/dye/search

What you can do is take a screen shot of a machine weapon or that backpack, use a simple editing software like paint to choose the colour you want to represent from that weapon (by picking it with the “dropper” tool) and then finding the hex code of that colour. You can then type it into one of the search fields on the site that I linked above and it will give you a list of the closest approximations to the colour you’re looking for, ordered by percentage likeness.

I hope that makes sense and helps.

Otherwise, give me the names of the armour pieces you’re wearing for your char and I can jump on mine to have a play with colour palettes. I only have a female charr warrior though, but they should dye the same considering there are very few gender differences across armours.

The discussion in groups about which builds you`d run, if you didn`t have A) could you run which was similar but with 1 or 2 different skills, then so and so could run his other build that`d work with them , it was a real collaboration, esp going into places like Sorrows Furnace the first time, the Deep, Urgoz, FOW

Isn’t this the case with raids and high level fractals though? This is hardcore content- designed to challenge players looking for one.

This sort of build/party requirements slow down gameplay in other areas of the game. A-net clearly stated that they wanted people to be able to quickly enter dungeons rather than having to wait for ages for a particular class or build to join.

My point is this: it sounds like in general you want content that requires careful management of your build and your party members to do the same. This would be considered harder content in GW2. With HoT, A-net put a strong emphasis on hardcore content. It sounds like new raids/wings will be a common thing.

Having harder content that doesn’t affect the core content is the best compromise. It allows everybody to play in the areas that suit them best. Increasing the difficulty and time investment required to play the game is not beneficial for the community overall.

Ah yes, I remember that now.

Serophous and Aeolus: You guys are right- I think I banished that mess from my memories. I think the problem with that was that your core skills were locked behind boss kills. At least in GW1 there were so many skills to choose from, there were sort of work-arounds if you hadn’t gotten the exact one you needed yet.

Maybe they could do something more with racial skills- perhaps opening a skill hunt option for races to find and learn the the other races’ skills. At least then they could be balanced more to be more viable that way, too.

I wholeheartedly agree with Illconceived Was Na.

The GW2 skill system is much more user friendly. It feels much more “grab and go”- no matter what you choose you can’t run into too many problems. I’d argue that gear/stats is much more important in your build, survivability and damage output than your skills.

I like the fact that it’s easy to make your own build in GW2- for me it really wasn’t fun having to search sites for builds that were incredibly situational and finnicky. Skills in GW1 often relied upon each other heavily meaning it was difficult to just switch out one skill for another one for a certain fight. I like how I know my skills inside out in GW2 and can quickly swap out utilities without worrying how it will impact the rest of my build.

I think it is unreasonable to ask for a massive overhaul of the GW2 system in favour for a system that was used in a previous (and very different) game. GW2 has marketed itself as a casual, “play how you want” game and I don’t think the GW1 skill system fits that ideal. You have to ask yourself what benefit an overhaul has (in business terms)- do you honestly think that it would draw more players in and keep the newer ones interested?

But one thing that would be really cool to bring back in some shape or form… skill hunting. I really did appreciate that part of GW1. It was nice to go on a little adventure to find a better version of a skill that you already have. I liked downloading a template, seeing I have 5 blank spots and having to work to fill them. I guess we have that to some extent with the elite specs, and I’m not sure how A-net would be able to work in skill hunting in general… but I just like adventuring :P

Input on 8/23 Roll-back

I understand people being frustrated that they lost progress, a drop etc.

But at the end of the day you just have to accept that sometimes these things happen. It’s better to try and spend your time trying to productively earn back your losses than to wallow in misery.

Rollbacks rarely happen and A-net wouldn’t have done it unless absolutely necessary. They didn’t plan on having to do it. Accidents happen. And at least it was only rolled back a few hours (?)- some people have had to have their account rolled back a number of days for things outside of their own control too (hacking etc).

Need some direction..

So I quickly made a side-by-side comparison of them.

I see where OP is coming from. They are all swords where the hilt is a dragon’s head and the blade is the breath of the dragon… and inspired by both fire and ice.

But for me, that’s where the similarities end. The foam swords don’t follow the exact lines or design. The head shape, position and colour palettes are vastly different. The blades are also very different.

I think it would be tough to “win” this one- I don’t think A-net could say that they owned every elemental dragon-head-hilted sword.

Quick edit: I will say that it’s good that you (OP) are concerned about these sorts of things and will show CS! At the end of the day, they are the ones that will make the call about copyright and how similar (or not) the designs are.

I just think it’s important to say that some things are just coincidence- not everything has to be a copyright breach as there are only so many fresh ideas. If the design was very similar to a more abstract weapon, I’d probably agree with you more OP. Just… dragons are very popular and are often portrayed as breathing fire or ice.

ANet doesn’t want to give us a reason to farm the ascended mats. These gizmos offer a mechanism so those who can’t stand to delete junk get an opportunity to turn it into something of value. It’s not meant to be particularly quick or easy.

This.

Also, any form of gating is just another reason to log in every day. Even if you’re not really active in-game, just logging in every day has benefits for you and A-net- it means you might see something new/returning on the gemstore that you want, or new content that will bring you back into the game.

Obviously, eaters alone aren’t going to keep the masses logging in frequently, but it’s just another small thing that stacks up the incentive…

And honestly, I doubt the gating is to incentivise bag-slot/bank sales. I’m sure that on average the cost of a tab/slot isn’t going to be covered by the junk you get from opening those eater-gifts. Buying a slot/tab purely for storing the ascended junk doesn’t seem like a very economical solution at all…

I was wondering if there had been a hack of some sort and was unwilling to put my info in an unusual situation. Glad I’m not the only one that’s seeing this at least.

I felt similarly, but never actually entered any details.

I clicked on the blue “Log In” thing that appears when the Gem Store bugs out, which then directed me to the forum log in screen (see pic attached). This page has a menu at the top which links to the wiki, support etc so by clicking on those I avoided having to log in.

Per some tweeting, part of the problem seems to lie in those using the German browser and for some people swapping to English fixes it? The tweets aren’t clear if that’s this problem.

I was going to buy some bag slots today, hopefully the shop will be functional during the time I have to do that

Well that’s very strange- I’m not German, nor do I use a german client/browser/anything.

So perhaps the problem extends further- but either way, it was pretty fun to see

Ok, maybe this should be in the bug section… but I think it could become a pretty cool feature.

So, I opened the gem store and it gave me a “You must Log In” (or words to that effect) thing instead. So I clicked Log In… just to see what would happen. And it showed the forum log-in page instead.

Yup. And it also included the header with links to the wiki. So I clicked on them.

And lo and behold, I could see the wiki through the BLTC window. I would assume it’s some sort of server mix-up.

But how handy would it be to be able to access these things without having to tab out?

To my mind survival horror is defined more by the mechanics than the type of enemies or the colour scheme.

The focus is on trying to survive – you need to carefully manage your resources and need to take more care to manage each puzzle/fight/whatever well. It’s very unlikely you’ll be able to run like hell to get out of combat, wait for your health to regenerate automatically and then go back in for another go.

I agree- both horror and survival games often share a particular theme; you can’t necessarily confront/kill the thing that’s killing you… and that you’re alone or in a very small group. The game might conclude if you manage to escape the creature/concept, or the whole game is a tactical plan to obtain what you need to defeat it. You often don’t have nearly enough of what you need to survive which heightens the desperation and tension. Here in GW2 enemies are immediate and can be tackled head-on. I feel that jump scares are a staple too as well as lots of risky situations.

The first genres that spring to mind when thinking about GW2… RPG (MMORPG), action-adventure, fantasy. Other aspects of the game could be labelled as other genres: puzzle, platformer etc. But the thing is, you don’t really label a game with its mini-games. A lot of games have easter eggs, mini games etc that are wildly different to the main feel or genre of the game.

I mean, GTA5 has a tactical side with the stock market, Watchdogs has the absolutely crazy digital trips that could be likened to arcade games or platformers… and any other reasonable examples are slipping my mind right now lol

My point is, themes have to be consistent throughout the game in order for it to be labelled as such. I get that the night/day changes in VB could be likened to survival games, but it’s not a theme you see commonly elsewhere in game.

Just for anyone new to gw2 who may be looking at this, I’ll also say that there are many people who will thank you for helping to go along with any negative you might see. And if anyone is ever cruel to you, you may also use the report function.

Yes, in general, the community is nice. So I think your title is perhaps a bit misleading- maybe a small fraction of veterans refuse to help, but not veterans in general.

But the thing is, if I got abused for being tagged up, even if I did report it, it would still make me think twice about tagging up again. I don’t need the conflict. I’m sure other people would feel similarly, especially if it was indeed a common occurrence.

A lot of people took a break from the game and have recently come back. I’m one of these people. I used to tag up all the time because I knew the content and was confident in my knowledge. Now, I’m not sure what’s different and what’s just the same as I left it, so I don’t want to tag up and misguide people.

The other thing I’ll add, I can see that there’s a difference in “priority” when it comes to Commander tags and Mentor tags. I have a commander tag myself and would use it if it didn’t require leaving my party/reforming it after tagging down. Just something annoying that didn’t use to be a problem. So I use a mentor tag instead for “pinging” events etc, but I dunno… it just doesn’t feel like it has the same impact as a commander tag (maybe that’s just my imagination though).

Finally.. I’ll add. It really is annoying when somebody tags up for the sake of tagging up. Say for example at The Shatterer. A few times now I’ve of commanders just tag up and not lead the event. People usually expect the commander to shout out times for pads/crystals, so if they don’t it’s not often somebody fills their place- it seems like it’s actually more likely for a randomer to shout out timings if nobody is tagged up at all. Needless to say, the events failed- people were all over the place… and in the end people were angry for the commander for not commanding.

GW2 Work shop idea

Like Fleshie said early on in the thread via dev response, having a community designed armour is very unlikely.

Asking for fan-designed weapons, however…

In GW1 there were two Design a Weapon competitions (https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Design-a-Weapon_ and https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Design-a-Weapon_)

But this event was not about reducing workload for devs, from what I can see. In fact, it probably required a lot more dev time than it would take for them to design a weapon themselves.

You also have to think about A-net’s business model. I would think that by adding very few “exclsuive”-feeling armours in-game since launch, it sort of nudges players towards the gem-store’s selection of armours and aesthetic items. Sure, you could just put the player-made armours in the gem-store but I’d bet that people would be annoyed that non-employees are earning A-net money. I can’t think of a way to put them in-game without causing more problems or requiring more work/dev time…

And other than that I totally agree with what Redenaz said- summarises my thoughts on the matter nicely.

Out of all the Gw1 Campains and the expansion my particular fav are the Elona maps in Nightfall also Catha’s Shing Jae Island & the Jade sea,
so definatly need more gw1 enviroments to explore in Gw2 without drowning in enemys would be great

nostalgiagasm

Yes! Your post just brought me back to roaming the hills (and caves) around Shing Jea. The ambient music, how immersive it was… the soft lighting and how emotive the whole place was.

I think one of the reasons why this sort of “stop and smell the roses” sort of gameplay isn’t so huge in GW2 is because when exploring you have very defined points to run to. In GW1 you had to unfog the map to explore, meaning that to some extent you could run wherever you wanted to whilst exploring.

The mini-map in GW2 is so crucial to many aspects of game-play that it detracts from the environment around you. I guess you could liken it to walking/driving around glued to a cellphone or satnav? When I’m running from one place to another, I’m probably looking at the mini-map half of the time. I think it would be really cool to play without it (I think WoodenPotatoes did?) just to see how reliant I am on it, and what the game would feel like without it.
