Glorious Brigandine (SKIN) armor

Firstly, I’ll start of with pasting this link: http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery

It’s a very useful resource when trying to find the look you want. It gets updated fairly often. It gives the chat codes for almost all armour skins.

Some trench-coats have the skirt part attached to the pants part of the armour (I think), so it might be worth mixing and matching, even if it looks like it might be a long coat.

As for getting the specific armour piece, if you use a rank farm method of playing PvP it would take about 2 hours of PvP for 4 days to get that armour (along with lots of other loot).

There’s plenty of stuff to do when you hit 80. The reason why it’s difficult to think of what to do is because most of the “endgame” is available pre-80. A-net designed it this way so that it wouldn’t just be a levelling grind/rush to 80.

-Dungeons and dungeon speed clears (most dungeon PUGs will demand 80 anyway)

-Fractals (level 10+ fractals require ascended gear for Agony Resistance… you need to be 80)

-Map completion and exploration (there are level 80 maps after all)

-Achievement hunting (because you won’t be able to complete all available achievements before level 80)

-Living Story and Personal Story (there are level 80 personal story quests and you must be level 80 to do living story now).

-Trait hunting (seeing as some traits come from high level bosses)

-Farming materials for ascended weapons and armour as well as legendaries

-Crafting and maxing your crafting

-Doing dailies and monthlies for laurels (for ascended rings and amulets, particularly)

-Doing guild missions every week for fun and for Guild Commendations (for more ascended stuff) and generally involving yourself in a guild (they usually run their own events and games)

-Farming for gold to buy and to discover particular skins/dyes/outfits to complete your character aesthetic

-WvW and PvP to hone your skill and add variety (if you mainly PvE)

-Levelling an alt (because there’s a lot more to discover by running a different race/professions/order with different story choices and play style)

New Legendary Weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

I would love for them to introduce new legendaries. I wouldn’t really mind making a legendary (it’s a gold sink and something to work towards for a long time) but none of the current ones really do it for me.

Imo, we need more legendaries that look like they “belong” in the game instead of tacky, gimmicky things. Something that looks powerful or elegant… not more things that shoot unicorns and sparkly lights or turn you into a walking, talking disco. I realise that some people like these sorts of legendaries, but at least give us a bit of diversity.

(Noob): Is crafting worth it?

in Crafting

Crimson Clouds.4853

Crafting is definitely a worthwhile thing to experience. But most things that you will need (gear-wise) you will be able to purchase off of the TP for about the same cost (often cheaper) than the material cost.

There are lots of things that can’t be bought from the TP and can only be crafted (ascended gear, crafting backpacks, celestial gear, ambrite weapons and a variety of other things). I recommend crafting as you go along, so when the time comes you can craft what you need instead of having to also worry about levelling your crafting professions.

If you are worried about the financial aspect of crafting, use a guide to help you (www.gw2crafts.net). Arguably this takes some of the fun out of crafting because you remove a lot of the experimentation and adventure, but I definitely recommend using it for 400+ crafting as it is relatively tedious with or without the guide and can be very expensive if you do it without a guide.

Also, with crafting, it is possible to earn money by refining materials that are time-gated. I’ve certainly earned back what I spent levelling my crafting professions. You just have to have the funds and material to start off with (I recommend levelling alts, map completion and an unhealthy amount of gathering!)

As for the completionist aspect, it definitely fulfilled that criteria for me. I’m an avid AP hunter and love completing and mastering different areas of the game. I have maxed all crafting professions so far. I hope that they up chef and jeweller to 500 and maybe add something new in the future.

Most fun Elementalist weapon set?

Crimson Clouds.4853

I play staff ele but I also have a scepter/dagger ele. My staff ele is fun because I find it extremely versatile (I can be supportive if I need to be, but I can also do some great damage too). My scepter/dagger ele I enjoy because it’s good fun stacking might and then dealing some insane damage.

Eles have the option to have constant +25% speed boost by having Signet of Air on in their utility skill bar.

You can also get other temporary speed boosts:

For staff ele, you can increase your speed to +33% by using number 4 on air attunement (Windborne Speed). You can also make a swiftness field by planting the air number 5 skill (Static Field) and then blasting it (e.g. Arcane Wave).

For x/dagger ele, number 4 on air (Ride the Lightning) makes you dash forwards providing you don’t have any enemy targeted (otherwise you will dash towards the enemy). Number 5 on air (updraft) will also give you a temporary swiftness.

You can increase swiftness duration by putting trait points in Arcana and also increase your movement speed if you put at last 1 trait point in air (a minor trait called Zephyr’s speed- if you’re attuned to air you will move faster). Also, this trait ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Inscription_ ) can give you swiftness under the right circumstances).

This gives you quite a few options when it comes to boosting your speed!

Legendary Dye

in Crafting

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

I’ve been toying with the idea of legendary dyes for a very long time.

I personally thing that a legendary dye set shouldn’t be focused around particle effects/glows considering this position is primarily taken by weapons. There are also some armours that already have a “glowiness” to them, or particle effect (the ones that spring to mind are the AP armour skins, the flamewalker/kissed/wrath skins and zodiac armours, although all of these the glowy parts are undyeable).

However, I do think that legendary dyes should apply some sort of texture or pattern to the dye region. I wasn’t necessarily thinking of the obvious tartan, stripes or polka dot dyes, but perhaps more “elegant” like floral patterns and intricate geometric patterns.

The only thing I haven’t really concluded upon this idea is how this will work with the current selection of dyes. Will the legendary dye (pattern) overlay on a currently unlocked dye colour that you have- can you mix and match the patterns with any dye you like? Or will the pattern be limited to just one colour? (Maybe this whole idea is too complex!)

Permanent Hair Style Contract Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

Aesthetic is very important in this game- it’s what a lot of people aim for, and arguably it’s one of the biggest “end-games there” currently is (consider Legendaries).

We are talking about a kittening stupid fashion item. A FASHION ITEM, it’s no use and it’s the pinnacle of casual crap I have even seen, especially that it is one of the most sought after item in this game. Just do some other stuff, will ya? It’s getting ridiculous.

So of course it’s sought after, Gunner. Especially with the “new” wardrobe feature, it’s easy to change your look and people want to co-ordinate your hair with what you’re wearing. Anet is also constantly adding new hair styles and features.. so the contract is a fast way to stand out from the crowd.

Just because it only adds to the aesthetic of the game, it doesn’t mean it’s of no use. Arena Net have strived to make this game customisable and of beautiful and interesting aesthetic to keep in-line with the ideals that they had in GW1.

Personally, although I’d never buy one of these permanent contracts, I love the idea. I wish there were more infinite/endless things in game to do with aesthetic and customisability.

I have a bunch of Experience scrolls from my 1 and 2 year old characters and half a stack of Tomes of Knowledge from running PvP every day. I know of people using them to get an alt from 1-80 in a blink.

Considering this already is an easy option for “veteran” players, I don’t see any advantage or disadvantage for having them in the Gem Store. However, I would worry about people starting the game and bypassing the whole levelling experience (imo it’s one of the best things about the game and teaches you a lot about your class)… but I guess that would be their choice, their money :P

Outfits (also known as costumes) occupy a different slot under the hero panel (H). You can equip an outfit at any time or level without the cost of transmutation charges. All outfits have 4 dye regions.

When the selected outfit is shown (by toggling a check box in the outfit section of the hero panel) it will override any armour you have equipped aesthetically, but will not replace your armour stats. You can also have a back item equipped and showing whilst using an outfit. You can also hide the headpiece of an outfit by hiding your armour headpiece (but as far as I’m aware, you can’t hide the hand or shoulder armour of any outfit).

When you unlock an outfit, you unlock it as a whole. This means you can’t mix and match outfit parts with regular armour in game.

It would be great to see more armours available- something different and exciting.
However, I don’t think future outfits should be sacrificed for more armours. We should be receiving more of both.

It would be lovely for outfits to retain their outfit status, but also allow us to access separate parts of the outfit to mix and match (even if there was some sort of limitation, e.g. you can only mix and match outfit parts with other outfit parts). There would need to be some sort of limitation to mixing and matching outfits, because right now an outfit costs less than an armour skin set and outfits don’t cost transmutation charges to equip.

Dear Devs, how about infinite-transmutation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

If they did create some sort of infinite transmutation charge, it would be an obscenely rare black lion chest item like the merchant/bank/tp/hairstyle/etc are.

I was thinking exactly the same.

People are complaining that it would reduce the amount of income Anet has considering the amount of people who purchase transmutation stones using cash. There are other gem-store items/gem-store only items that have their own infinite versions, but they are very rare drops from black lion chests (meaning that in some sense Anet is still earning money from these as people buy BL keys aiming for such an expensive/rare items).

So make it a very rare black lion chest item, e.g. “Permanent Fashion Stylist Contract”.

If they introduce this, maybe they should also introduce a permanent make-over contract too?

[BUG] Lunt's fire event

Crimson Clouds.4853

I’m referring to the two event chain in Wayfarer’s Foothills in Doldenvan Passage.

After completing the first event (collect Pungent Gladioli), a dialogue will appear between the two event dredge on one side of the bridge and Lunt, the norn on the other.

After the line “No. That is norn. And that norn smell is filling the cave. Stop it before we get sick.”, there is a brief moment where (at least) the dredge on the left drops his invulnerable buff. If you kill the dredge in this moment, the event will bug.

The bug stops the dialogue, doesn’t cue the event, but the stream of dredge that run to the bridge appear. Once you have killed a sufficient amount of dredge*, the two event dredge will respawn and continue the dialogue from where the left it, the event will appear and a new stream of dredge will appear.

*Not sure if it’s the amount of dredge you kill, or just a timer.

I know it’s not a serious/game breaking bug, but I thought I’d share it.

Q: Grenth hood returning in halloween event?

The Grenth hood was available alongside the Phantom’s hood on August 24th. Usually items that have limited availability won’t be available just a couple of months after the last time they were purchasable. It would be fair to expect the hood to be available around Christmas time.

It also makes perfect sense that the Grenth hood is usually available closer to wintersday. Grenth is the God associated with ice and eternal winter and is often “celebrated” around this time. I guess it would be easy to assume that he is more associated with Halloween, Grenth is a reaper/death-like figure which goes hand-in-hand with real life Halloween.

1. The outfit can be equipped in the outfit slot in the Hero panel. It overrides anything you’re wearing aesthetically, but you will still be wearing your equipment “underneath”.

2. You can hide/show the outfit by checking/unchecking the little square that is on the outfit icon, much like hiding or showing headgear on normal armour. It doesn’t cost any transmutation charges at all.

3. You can use the outfits all year round. These outfits are halloween themed and generally are only available in the gemstore during the halloween period.

I love outfits because it gives me the oppurtunity to quickly change my look without having to edit my existing armour set. I also find them excellent because it means I can make a levelling alt look sweet without wasting transmutation stones.

Black Lion Chests count as gambling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Anything that stimulates the reward centres in your brain can become addictive or habitual. Gaming can become “addictive”, so can drinking, eating and plenty of other enjoyable things.

However, just because it can become addictive and the minority have impulse control problems, it shouldn’t be barred off to everybody else who are responsible in that set action. If somebody has a gambling problem, they should go get help for it and avoid trigger stimuli if that helps them.

As for people who don’t have gambling problems, I’m sure they are largely able to control their impulses and take responsibility for their own actions. As for minors, their parents/guardians should be responsible and control their money/internet use and reinforce healthy choices.

I also agree on what’s been said- the rewards you get from black lion chests are (almost always) worth more than what the key was worth, even if you don’t receive something worth a lot of money. So yeah, it’s not technically a gamble because you will always receive something of value (but whether it’s useful to you or not is another question :P)

Black Lion Chests count as gambling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

A lot of things in video game could be pigeon-holed under the term “gambling”. Mystic forge, is what springs to mind straight away. Mawdrey eating bloodstone for a random selection of items. Using a salvage kit to remove an expensive upgrade from an item (and you have the chance to lose the upgrade entirely).
Heck, even farming for rare drops could be considered gambling because you’re spending your time waiting for the RNG god to drop something in your favour.

I’m no law student/expert either, but I think age-gating such a thing would be near impossible.

For starters, you can’t directly purchase black lion keys with real life money. You can buy gems with real life money and exchange those for black lion keys, but you can’t age-gate gems because they are used to purchase “non-gambling” items.

You can also obtain black lion keys as rewards (drops, some story rewards and map completion rewards). You receive an item which has no other value apart from being used- can it really be considered gambling in this circumstance?

For Anet to be able to enforce a 18+ gate on “gambling” items, they’d have to ask for some sort of valid ID to prove your age. Once again, I’m no expert, but handling this type of data is probably very risky/expensive for them, just like how credit card details have to be carefully secured.

Gambling law is different from country to country and this is an international game. For instance, in the UK, you can involve yourself in the national lottery at 16 years old. In other countries, any sort of gambling is completely illegal. If a country felt so offended by GW2 having some forms of “gambling”, they’d ban the game or restrict it.

Yes, unfortunately gambling is a problem for some people. However, people with gambling problems would probably invest their money in something that they might get real life rewards from.

I’m sure a lot of people throw their real-life money at the gem store for keys, but if they have that sort of money they’ll probably be consenting adults anyway. There is extensive drop research available and being done on black lion chests- people who buy keys for a particular item tend to know what the odds are.

With these kinds of issues, I take the “if you have a problem with it, don’t do it” kind of stance.

Crafting to level?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

It might be possible, but if you consider how much money you’d spend on materials to level your crafting (and thus time you’d spend farming this money), it’d be faster to just level normally or in EotM.

I’m not sure how it is now, but pre-patch in Edge I was pushing 4-5 levels an hour if I was using Exp Boosters/Banners/Food/Birthday Booster.

But if you have a lot of money/materials to throw at it and you don’t mind using a very expensive way to level, why not!

How do you tell a norn from a human?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

There are a few other things that are worth mentioning (although they might be really obvious).

Cultural armours- it’s worth being able to recognise all tier and armour weights of cultural armours. In some instances this may help tell the difference between human and norn.

Beards- norn males have a huge selection of bushy beards, crazy moustashes and decorated beards. Human males have only one long beard style- a “Zach Galifianakis” style.

No human male hair styles have accessories- if you see a guy with hair accessories (sweatband, hair bands etc) he’s a norn.

Voice and phrases- Norns have a much deeper voice than humans. They also have different phrases for conditions/buffs. E.g. for cripple, norn females will angrily mutter “Not the leg…” whereas human females screech “My leg!”.

Norn males and females have much squarer features compared to humans (who have very soft and rounded features). Even using the sliders, it’s difficult to reduce a norn’s ‘squareness’.

If you see a character with tattoos, it’s a norn. Humans don’t have tattoos.

As somebody has already mentioned, you’ll be able to easily recognise norn-only or human-only faces and hairstyles. It can take a little time to get used to the differences, but I have found that playing around in character creation is a fast way to distinguish them from each other.

It works like that for rich nodes and T6 materials (they also reset daily). All other nodes, if I’m not mistaken, reset hourly.

But as I’ve already said, that would be the least of their worries. You could kill the same enemies over and over, just in different map instances. This would lead to server-hopping for event farms, champ farms, T5/6 material farms, lodestone farms… you name it. It would effectively remove any cool-down for mob and event respawn.

The tragedy that is megaserver

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Consider resource nodes and (farmable foes), for example. This would probably crash the economy because most crafting materials would become easier to obtain in large quantities.

When people get tossed into another overflow of teh megaserver now, the nodes do not reset. They just change spots, but once gathered, they’re gone on all overflows.

If you start in map server A (harvest), get into B (harvest) and return to A, no- the nodes won’t be there (unless you’ve waited an hour). However, it would still mean that you have many more chances to gather resources as you have the ability to instantly change to a new version of the map with fresh nodes.

It would also mean that you could farm particular foes very easily (e.g. Dust Mites in Dry Top) just by rotating which instance of the map you’re in- an easy way to increase your hourly turnover of whatever material you’re farming.

If Anet did decide to have changeable map instances, I can see how they would get around the gathering node problem (e.g. you have 30 tree nodes in one particular map, harvest 6 nodes and even if you move to a different map instance you will only have 24 left to harvest). However, it’d be difficult to limit farmable foes (unless they nerfed the drop rate of every material that is lucrative).

Achievement Points are the only way to get account wide Karma, Exp and Gold find gain. You can also get increased Magic Find through Achievement Points, but not nearly as much of an increase as obtaining increased MF through Luck.

There are also infusions that you can buy at laurel merchants to infuse into utility infusion slots (on ascended amulets, for example) which can offer a significant boost to these stats (for level 80 chars). Gilded Infusions = +20% gold find, Magical Infusions = +20% magic find, Experienced Infusions = +20% exp from kills, Karmic Infusions = +15% karma.

From Achievements, I Currently have an increased +16% exp gain (from kills), which doesn’t sound much but it definitely helps (especially when using a food and utility buff). That gets me up to an extra +36% exp gain from kills, without considering infusions/boosters/guild buffs.

I also have found that the increased karma gain is useful- I definitely notice the difference when I’m karma farming in Edge.

However, it’s not something that you desperately need to do- these increases aren’t a game-changer, but they are a nice little reward. Personally, I farm achievement points for the sense of completion and for the reward chests themselves. If the buffs weren’t there I’d still farm AP.

I would hypothesise that a lot of younger GW2 players aren’t interested in the forum as much as the more mature GW2 player population. My guess is that there are a lot more than just 5% of the player base between the ages of 13 and 17 (just that they are more interested in spending time inside the game rather than outside it). Just a gut feeling, I don’t have any evidence to back it up of course.

Ascalonian tears are dungeon token which you can use (amongst other things) to buy exotic armour and weapons with unique skins. Different dungeons have a different range of skins for all armour types and weapons.

I would recommend saving your laurels to buy ascended rings and amulet for you Thief. Purchase rings at the Laurel vendor in WvW to save a lot of laurels (you subsidise the cost by also paying a little bit in badges of honour). Ascended rings give you a bit better stats than exotics, and can also be infused with agony resistance infusions (which will allow you to do higher level fractals).

If you want to purchase rings for your Thief with dire stats, the ones to buy would be Ralena’s Band and Vassar’s Band (you can’t equip two Ralena’s bands or two Vassar’s bands). Both have the same stats, but one has an offensive infusion slot and the other a defensive infusion slot (which doesn’t make a whole heap of difference).

From what I’ve heard, the Thief gear/profession specific gear isn’t really worth using laurels on as the stuff you’ll get won’t be very valuable (you might not get the right stats or the right level).

About Gear: I think the easiest way to get Dire gear would be to buy it from the Trading Post. You should be able to get enough money from normal game-play to afford it pretty fast (especially if you run some dungeons every day).

Otherwise, you could craft it, but if you want full exotic gear you’d have to be Leatherworker, Weaponsmith and Huntsman in order to craft your armour and your pistol and dagger. Crafting exotic armour also takes a fair amount of Tier 6 materials (and ectos), but this shouldn’t be too much of a problem if you run around Orr/WvW and participate in world boss events.

As for what you do when you’re level 80:
-Explore Orr
-Take part in more dungeons (especially considering most PUGs only accept level 80s too)
-Run Fractals (once again, most PUGs ask for 80, but 80 is a must for fractals above level 10).
-World completion (personally I love exploring, but its not to everybody’s tastes)
-Consider crafting ascended gear or a legendary weapon
-Work towards a particular aesthetic that you want for your character e.g. work towards dungeon armour/weapons, cultural armour, gathering materials for unique mystic forge exotics, farm gold for something off of TP
-Hunt Achievements and complete them
-Play through Personal Story and Living Story

I’ll add more if I think of any!

[Suggestion] QoL- Search feature for Dyes in Wardrobe

That would be most handy, indeed, though one could get even smoother searching if there was just an alpha-sort option beyond hue or rarity. If you know the name of the dye you’re looking for, why move your hands from your mouse to type if you can just quickly scroll down the list to it or, if it’s in rows as current sortings are, move your mouse to the general area and then focus in on the one you want?

I’m not sure if I totally understand what you mean- are you suggesting another option to sort the list of dyes alphabetically?

If so, I like the idea, but as an addition to my proposition. If somebody has the full set of dyes, there’s going to be some letters with easily 10-20 dyes listed under them- if you know the name of the dye, it might be faster just to type 3 or 4 letters of the start of the dye you want.

However, that being said, even if there are 10-20 dyes listed under ‘P’ (for example) it’s unlikely that there will be multiple dyes starting with P that have a very similar colour.

I propose that there should be a search bar feature in the Dye section of the Wardrobe (Under Hero).

All other sections in the wardrobe have a search function, which is incredibly useful when looking for something particular amongst many available options. It’d be great to see the exact same feature for the Dye panel.

I’m surprised that there isn’t a search feature for dyes considering that the Dye panel has the largest selection to choose from after collecting most of the dyes in-game. It’s time consuming to find the dye you want to use if you already know the name of it (and inevitably it’s ‘hidden’ amongst the others).

I realise that there already is a “favourites” section to the dye panel, but the number of bookmarked dyes is limited to 8, which is a relatively small number considering the great selection of dyes available.

Thoughts?

I know it’s inconvenient (to some extent) that the dye swatch doesn’t match the outcome on some materials.

Most medium armours do consist of just/mostly leather. The first picture is the preview for an outfit, so it’s kind of a moot-point. The second armour is the medium pirate set, and most of it appears to be leather. A good example of medium armour that incorporates leather, metal and cloth is the Order of Whisper’s medium armour.

It is also worth mentioning that not all cloth, leather or metal dye exactly the same. For example, http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/index.php?color=2&sex=0&race=0&w=1&skinID=meoi&lang=en and http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/index.php?color=2&sex=0&race=0&w=1&skinID=bdi&lang=en . Look at the chest armour, both are dyed the same, but one is much brighter because of the material/reflection.

The swatch for the dye in game is a rough approximation for most outcomes whereas the three swatches on the official wiki are slightly better approximations.

However, I’ve noticed that rarer/more expensive dyes (especially the exclusive dyes e.g. Tower of Nightmares, Flame and Frost) generally have a larger colour variation on different materials. This actually makes them more attractive to many players. It’s almost like the different shades add dimension to the armour.

If the colour was changed (so that the dye effect would match the swatch better) Anet would probably have a lot of upset players on their hands who quite happily use the dye at its current setting. The swatch can’t be edited to represent leather result because it is representative of the metal and cloth result.

My guess is that Anet won’t give you the guy’s name because of security reasons- because of the circumstance, the kind of conversation that might happen probably won’t be a pleasant one. If you contacted the receiver and he says that he won’t send your money back, it’s a conversation on the road to disaster.

As for why it happened, it might be down to your friend and the receiver having similar account or character names. I’ve also noticed when sending mails to my boyfriend, that even if I start typing his character/account name it might auto-fill a different account name (often it’s somebody who’s in the area or in your guild).

That all being said, I’m not sure how you sent the mail to somebody from outside your friends list by right-clicking somebody from on your friends list… it doesn’t sound like the kind of thing that would happen. I hate to suggest such a thing (just playing devil’s advocate), but are you sure your friends are being truthful? Maybe ask all your other friends to clear their mail boxes and see if anything appears from you?

Unfortunately, the guy who received your money is under no obligation to return it (as far as I’m aware). If Anet started policing gold/item trades between players, they’d also end up allowing players to bypass the Black Lion Trading Centre for trading safely.

On a slightly more positive note, there’s a chance that the guy you sent it to hasn’t been online yet to return it to you.

Good luck!

Discrimination? (Non-English chat language)

I see the language issue from a more technical point of view, because the game can only offer technical solutions. The players as a whole will not change only because a thread in this forum exists that asks for being tolerant.

I never really asked for tolerance- I know people won’t change their behaviour. From the scenario I described in the original post, I know people won’t bother changing. For the 30 minutes or so that I watched the rage between the people in map chat, it was obvious that neither were going to change their views about map chat language.

I wish that getting tolerance over the matter was as easy as posting a thread about it :P I posted the topic to start a discussion about the situation and the underlying problem, to raise awareness and just to hear what people thought about it.

Technical solution for me was always what i posted x time before release of the mega-server, that we always need to have at least 4 different instances of each mag,
one for each official language .. so EN, DE, FR, ES

Although segregating servers into their own language-based maps would be a solution, it would raise more problems. It would mean that it would be difficult for people from different language servers to mingle and play the game together. It would also result in a very low map population for the Non-English servers, especially for the Spanish as it only consists of Baruch Bay [ES]. As far as the mega-server system is involved, re-segregating servers is a big step back (consider how rare it was for Teq or Tri-Wurm to be killed before megaservers).

Personally I’m starting to believe that map chat segregation is the way forward, providing it’s done in a way to still let players choose which chat they talk in and filtered.

The game is lacking a feature to give the player the option to choose the languages he is able to understand and the option to explicitly tag his own chat messages with a specific language independently from the game client language. This is more important now with the mega server. A little clickable language flag next to the chat input box, where I can quickly choose a different language for my next chat messages, if I want to answer in English instead of German. And a list of languages in the game options that I want to read (German and English in my case). This is a way to introduce language chats, but merged into one channel as before, so it doesn’t clutter your chat window.

It’d be wonderful to have separate chat channels for each of the game languages, and perhaps even a few for other languages that aren’t covered. Maybe there should be different map chats depending on language… e.g. /em for English map, /dm or /gm for German map chat etc. It would certainly improve communications within each designated language.

From the majority response, most believe that the current chat system is pretty flawed due to the implementation of mega-servers. The problem would be creating something that was simple enough to use, that didn’t clutter the chat interface and wouldn’t confuse people who are new to the game.

[Bug] Dye shows a different color

Please take the time to look at the provided screenshots.
The OP complained about “different gear” being colored differently, not different “gear types”. The screenshots show different pieces of medium armor type equipment on his ranger. Some of the pieces are a lot darker (almost black), while others are unimpressively brown. That brown is very much unlike what the ingame “preview box” of the color suggests what the outcome should look like.

The complaint is unrelated to colors affecting light, medium and heavy armor types differently.

I’m not talking about armour for different classes. There are different materials incorporated in all armours or outfits: cloth, leather and metal. Often there are metal or cloth elements in medium gear, even though it is expected to be leather.

In this instance, the midnight fire dye appears to be very dark on cloth material (present on the pirate outfit’s leggings), but a medium brown on all the leather components (the boots and top part of the pirate outfit, and on the armour underneath the outfit).

The swatch in the dye panel for midnight fire is representative to some extent- the swatch is very similar in colour to when it is applied to cloth material. It’s just not as representative for leather.

Unfortunately the icon for Midnight Fire in the dye panel can’t show all possibilities of how it looks on all materials- it’s down to the user to preview it.

Zodiac armor sale

Pretty sure the Zodiac armour was on sale during the anniversary sale late August to early September. If memory serves me right, it was 30% off all zodiac armours. Considering this was only a few weeks ago, I don’t think they’d add a sale so soon after.

Found dulfy’s page on it: http://dulfy.net/2014/08/22/gw2-2nd-anniversary-10-day-gemstore-sale/

The Zodiac armours were on sale from the 28th of august.

Just to add a few things to that you guys might like to comment/develop on:

-The guy arguing against the German-speaker has a somewhat valid point in saying that if she wanted to speak German, she should chose the German client.
However:
-Many non-English players prefer to play using the English client: often, Wiki pages are more filled-out in the English version and along with using guides (like Dulfy) it is useful to know what items/skills/places are called in English.
-Also, there are only English, French, German and Spanish clients. I’ve seen plenty of people using Slavic languages and Italian who wouldn’t be filtered out from the chat filter because there is no appropriate client language for them. Would this be a different conversation one of these languages were being used rather than the German?

-In this instance, I recall the German speaker saying that the reason why she asked the question in German in the first place was because she preferred to be on the receiving end of a German explanation, as she would be able to understand it better. She seemed to speak English pretty well. Her question, in this instance, was directed at the German community whereas other questions and conversations of hers might be more appropriate for the English community.

-Do you guys feel that an appropriate (and optional) language detection service in game would reduce these kinds of encounters?

I’m very interested in all of your responses, and agree with everything that has been said so far. English is by far the most effective way to communicate online and in-game but I’ve come to my personal conclusion that people shouldn’t rise against a Non-English speaker in the way that I mentioned in the original post. I think I’ve come to realise myself that my upset of what I saw happened was how the guy voiced his opinion, which may potentially inspire other players to follow his lead and block/harass them just because they’re not speaking English at that moment.

Is my gear still ok?

in Players Helping Players

The game is balanced to be played with exotic-level gear. Ascended gear gives a fairly minor stat increase, but is more important in high level fractals where you will need agony resistance to survive (ascended gear has special slots to add these agony infusions in). In other words, it isn’t necessary to get ascended gear in any way, shape or form.

Ascended rings and amulets are pretty easy to get providing you complete daily and monthly achievements regularly- these will give you laurels which you can exchange for relatively cheap trinkets. I also recommend completing guild missions every week to be rewarded with Guild Commendations, which can be traded in for cheap ascended accessories/earrings.

Ascended weapons are more difficult to get at they require you to spend about 100g to increase your weapon crafting level from 400 to 500. The weapon itself requires a fair amount of material to create (and laurels), but the materials can be relatively easy to come across with a bit of map exploration and completion. The weapon skins look pretty good according to most people.

Ascended armour, however, is a whole different ball park. Getting to 500 tailor/leatherworker/armorsmith is the easy part, collecting all the materials or saving up money is the hard part. I haven’t done the maths in a while, but I’d estimate it to cost around 700g for ascended light armour (but cheaper for ascended medium and heavy). The armour skins aren’t really anything special, by most people’s judgements.

It’s endgame though, to some respects. Even if you don’t do fractals (or wouldn’t need the agony resistance slots) it’s something to work towards and enjoy the satisfaction of completing.

As for legendary weapons, they have the same stats as ascended gear, with interesting skins and on-the-fly stat changes whenever you’re out of combat. I don’t know many people who craft legendaries for the stat changes though, considering most builds run zerker gear anyway, but for many people crafting a legendary is exciting and gives a nice sense of completion.

Firstly, I want to point out that I don’t know either of these people involved. I’m posting this because I want you guys to share your thoughts on this matter, and possibly for a moderator to confirm/deny if this is appropriate conduct (for future reference). I realise that this topic could get out of hand, so please be sensitive about the topic at hand and explain your reasoning well.

I encountered a fierce “debate” this morning in map chat. It all started when a player posted a short question in German in map chat.

Another player then came along and said that this person should speak in English, and that he blocks everybody who doesn’t speak in English. He says that people who set their game client to English (which then includes you in the English language chat filter) should only speak English, because it’s rude to speak another language other than English. His explanation for this, in this example, was because speaking German excludes many people from the conversation, and that by applying your game (as a German speaker) to the English client removes your right to speak German in map chat.

(For those who don’t know, there is a chat filter which filters language depending on what language you choose to run your client in. People who apply a filter for English in the chat window only would only allow people using the client in English to show in their chat).

On one hand, I understand his reasoning. He chose the English filter so he didn’t have to see other languages, but because there are “loop-holes” in the system, he does. He also has the right to block anybody he sees fit.

However, imho I don’t think it’s appropriate to advertise that blocking (and discriminating) on the grounds of language is ok, or to tell somebody that speaking their native non-English language is rude.

Is it verbal abuse for somebody to tell another that they shall block you because of what language they speak?

Thoughts? Have you guys experienced any discrimination? What about your experiences of co-operation between speakers of different languages?

*EDIT: I’ve edited the title of the post to be more appropriate to the topic we’re discussing and the direction that it’s heading *
