Is that legal? I mean, in-game-wise? Seems shady.
Flipping is perfectly legal in-game. It’s just like real-life stocks and shares- you buy things when they are cheap and sell when you’ve earnt your profit.
Unfortunately, just like real-life, people who already have a lot of money earn the most profit as they are able to tie up their money into lots of other assets abd earn even more money. But also just like real-life, the riskiest investments often offer the best profit.
So you have to be particularly cunning and determined. its very easy to give up after your first series of losses.
I tried it for a while and was particularly determined to set myself up so that I’d be a long-term TP flipper. I desperately searched for items that weren’t being flipped or weren’t being flipped very much and it was extremely difficult. As soon as you know what to look for you realise that any item that is profitable to flip is already being flipped.
At this point I started to look for less profitable items and instead would buy huge amounts of lots of less profitable items to earn a similar amount of profit… and it was so much work and speadsheets that I felt like it was a detriment to my gaming experience.
So yeah, sorry about rambling on about my own experiences. I think what I’m trying to get at is this:
1) Evaluate how much time/effort you are willing to put into flipping and consequently how it will change your view on the game.
2) If you want to flip, watch a load of YouTube guides to start off with. There are lots of good ones out there. There are also tools like gw2spidy gw2tp etc that are a great help. As already mentioned, very few “hardcore” flippers are going to want to help you out as it increases their competition.
3) Survey the markets for a while- learn what type of items will suit your “flipping style”, work out how much money you want to invest and retrieve over set periods of time.
4) Be determined (at least more determined than I was :P) and don’t give up. If you’re more determined and pushy than your flipping competition, you’ll succeed.
Isn’t this thread going a little off-topic?
Also, I believe that advertising yourself as a middleman comes under “grey-market”… which is against the forum rules.
Not sure if troll or…
Well. If you have a genuine problem with your index finger (and this carries on for more than a day or two) I would recommend going to see a doctor. Repetative Strain Injury (RSI), nerve damage and carpal tunnel syndrome are not uncommon amongst gamers.
My recommendation (NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL) is to rest it for a few days and in the future, avoid circumstances where you will be clicking continuously for a long period of time. Next time open them in short batches over a very long time (e.g. open 50 every 30 minutes over the next few days). I’m sure the excess caffeine isn’t helping either.
When it comes down to it, these are your life choices. :P
I’d quite like to see an additional swap button added to the UI, next the the Elite (like weapon switch is next to auto-attack), which when clicked, switches the Weapon and Utility bar into a 10 slot action bar.
You’d hit the swap button to revert back to weapons and utilities, and the number keys would bind to the items in the appropriate slots. The action bar could be tied to the equivalent of an extra 10 slot bag (that everyone gets), so you can pick which 10 items you want available.
Excellent idea, seems pretty streamlined
gw2crafts.net
specifically: http://www.gw2crafts.net/weaponcraft_400.html
It has leveling guides from 0-400 and 400-500. The second one I linked shows the cheapest way to get to 500.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that using crafting boosters benefits hugely. It increases the critical exp you get from crafting, which means you’ll get to 500 faster (so you’ll use less materials).

I like to use the site babynamestats.com to help think of names for my characters.
It has an option to search by meaning, so often I think of synonyms or words related to the profession, race or style of my character.
For example, for Mesmer I think of: Butterfly, Purple, Violet, Magic, Mind
http://www.babynamestats.com/search.php?meaning=butterfly
http://www.babynamestats.com/search.php?meaning=purple
http://www.babynamestats.com/search.php?meaning=violet
http://www.babynamestats.com/search.php?meaning=Magic
http://www.babynamestats.com/search.php?meaning=mind
Sometimes I find two names I like and pair them up for a first name and a surname. Often I find a first name on that website, then use google translate to find a surname that compliments the first name by translating the key words into different languages.
It doesn’t necessarily matter if the names you end up with mean what they’re “meant” to mean. As long as you like how it sounds and reads, its great. I just find this method works the best for when I’m stuck for ideas, as its a good starting point with plenty of directions to head in.
I would love an action bar.
How I envision an action bar to appear in GW2:
I would like it to include a space for Toys/Gizmos (such as Bobblehead Lab, player instruments), a space each for food, utility buff and a booster, mounts (e.g. magic carpet, riding broom) as well as a space for a costume brawl weapon.
The spaces would be item-type specific, so you wouldn’t be able to put e.g. food in a utility buff space, or a booster in a costume brawl weapon space.
It’d be great if this bar was account-wide, so you could access these particular items without having to drop them off/pick them up from your bank.
I don’t think that this set-up would create exploitable niches. If there was a worry that this would benefit low level alts too much or be too confusing for new players, I’m sure Anet would just level gate it anyway.
Just to clarify: in my mind, the action bar would be like a seperate account-wide inventory space- not just a hotkey-type-system to a particular item located in your bag.
If anything, I’m sure Anet would highly benefit from a system like this. Allowing players to access gem-store items on characters without cluttering their inventory/bank may improve sales. I know plenty of people who don’t have player instruments/toys because they know that they’d sit in their bank and not be used (because they don’t want to clutter inventory space). My point here is that these gem store items will appear more attractive to players, thus a potential rise in sales. There could even be some sort of incentive for repeat purchases (e.g. if you buy two instruments, you get a total of two instrument slots).
I’ve also seen people discuss similar ideas for WvW blueprints and certain tokens (e.g. geodes and bandit crests). I think spaces for WvW blueprints would be handy, but it would be difficult to include all varieties without cluttering this action bar. Geodes/Bandit Crests belong in the account wallet as a currency in my opinion as they are largely similar to dungeon tokens.
I love these glitches- I’ve seen plenty of them on YouTube and I think WoodenPotatoes did a few videos on how to access the void and generally how break out of the map.
The strangest one I’ve seen though is when my bf broke out of Hoelbrak and dropped down into the void. The void was weirdly trippy- the water distorted the character a bit and was incredibly colourful. I wish I had some pictures, but unfortunately the screenies are on a different computer
3 Guardians
2 Eles
2 Rangers
2 Warriors
2 Mesmers
2 Necros
1 Engi
1 Thief
… and 3 spare char slots.
All but 4 are level 80.
-I enjoy levelling and exploring- probably my favourite thing to do in game.
-I like to develop new character ideas and overall aesthetics and often try to theme my characters around weapons or armour that I like the look of.
-Multiples of the same professions allows for interesting replays using different builds or slightly unconventional weapon sets. It adds a bit of challenge, to me gives an entirely new experience/feel to that profession and teaches me more about the game and mastering that particular profession.
-Of course, I could just delete and remake a character rather than buying extra char slots, but that would be like destroying your own work. Besides, extra char slots is a bit of a gold sink for somebody who has no huge in-game financial goals (e.g. ascended armour/legendaries). I also kind of consider my characters as little personal trophies- a way to reflect on the work done and fun had… even if I only use them for extra JP loot.
-Like Taku has already kinda mentioned, it’s a personal goal for me to have male and females of all races and all armour weights. I like the diversity that this can add, although I might end up trading out my possible male norn mesmer to a female as I’m not confident in my ability of designing a good looking norn male light class.
-I’ll also probably end up 8 asura of all different professions… just because I love them This to me also makes it more worthwhile buying T3 cultural armour as I feel like I might actually get reasonable use out of it.
-It certainly is an expensive way to play and not for everybody- I understand why people think its a weird way to play as you spread your ingame finances very thin (so it’s difficult to save up for ascended armour, legendaries, T3 etc). But for me I would burn out very quickly on just 1 character. I’m not really into Fractals or Dungeons so after that there isn’t much repeatable endgame for just one character that really suits me.
Christmas came early for me!
I completed Bloodtide Coast (probably for the 5th time now), got a black lion key as one of the rewards and then proceeded to get a Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract.
Mmm…. 400g It’s especially tasty since I’m one of those people who are generally pretty unlucky drop-wise and personally haven’t been given anything of great value since launch with 3k hours (probably like the vast majority in all honesty).
But… since I’m greedy…
I’d love to find a Firebringer all wrapped up in (slightly singed) shiny paper under the Christmas tree
(edited by Crimson Clouds.4853)
I don’t really see the benefit here.
Long names aren’t much of a problem- I feel that weapon names are pretty efficient in the way that they deliver the maximum amount of information at a glance.
Ok, so it might take a split second to read e.g. “Mighty Iron Dagger of Blood”. But hovering over the item and then mousing over other items in the description will take much longer to portray the same information. Surely this is clunkier than the system already in place?
Right now you can interpret a lot from those few words. Say if you got an exotic drop whilst in a dungeon- on the right hand side of your UI it will say “Berserker’s Iron Greatsword of Bloodlust” in orange. You know straight away what kind of value the item is without having to even check your inventory. This would be very different to just seeing “Iron Greatsword” in orange.
Most guilds that have officers have a Mumble/TS/Raidcall server which meets the demands for officer/leader discussion. Multiple rooms in the server can also be offered so that different groups have different chats. It doesn’t remove people from in-game guild chat, but it does reduce guild chat traffic so people who aren’t on microphones can still easily communicate.
I know that this requires using third party software- people argue that all of this should be managed in game and you shouldn’t have to use external software to properly play, but most MMOs are like this already. If A-net wanted to compete, they’d have to develop their own voice communication software in game and also possibly moderate it.
Either way, these systems are already in place and actively used. I don’t see much point in Anet spending time/resources developing a tool which would always be inferior to Mumble/TS/RC.
Also, Guilds advertise through the forums and places like gw2community . I’ve seen people advertise their guilds through LFG (not sure if this is bending the rules or not), but I don’t think we desperately need extra ways to find guilds in-game or otherwise.

My bf and I party up all the time when we’re on GW2 together.
The blue dot on the map is a pretty useful indicator on where the other person/people in the party is/are. I picked up Aion the other day where there is no such minimap indicator (or if there is, it is much much smaller) and I found it very difficult to keep tabs on where he was- even with our screens next to each other it was painful unless I was directly following him step-for-step.
We also use the personal waypoint indicator often to mark bosses/harvesting nodes/covered up POIs etc. (alt + click on the map). The ping and drawing on the map abilities are also pretty useful.
With your “kill 100 centaurs” analogy, although both players would have to kill 100 centaurs to complete the task, two players killing one centaur is much faster than two players killing two separate centaurs. I definitely find duoing exploration with my bf is much faster than soloing, purely because you have some extra dps and a second set of eyes to help out.
Also, I believe that partying up is more beneficial when it comes to loot (or at least I have been told that in EotM, champ trains etc). To be eligible for a loot drop from a foe, you have to inflict a certain amount of damage to the foe. Whilst in a party, providing the rest of the party have inflicted enough damage, you just need to hit the foe in order to be eligible for the reward.
Outfits are starting to grow on me, that being said you should increase your variety multiplied by 100, and enable us with the ability to dye outfits.
Outfits are dyeable- all outfits have 4 dye areas. You can dye an outfit in the same tab as you dye armour, you just have to have the outfit toggled on.
If you bring your mouse over the name of the maps counting toward map completion you’ll see what you completed in the area…
No need to actually go to the place…
^This!
I also had a bug once whilst I was map completing in WvW. I interacted with a vista to complete the map (it was the last thing I needed in that borderland) but for some reason the World Map and icons were still showing 7/8 even though all of the vista icons on this map were “filled in”. It certainly wasn’t just me going crazy: my bf was watching me the whole time and thought it was equally bizarre.
It took a couple of minutes for the game to recognise that I had indeed interacted with the vista, and then everything was fine.
Considering this has only happened to me once out of my many times of exploring, I don’t really know how to avoid it or to solve it apart from maybe just interacting with the vista again.
Chances are you’ve missed it out in a map, or it could possibly be a new Vista introduced through the LS in the original maps (I know there are plenty of new POIs). If it makes you feel any better, I know how frustrating it is to be so close to finishing something and then get hung up by something so small and seemingly insignificant
My own naming convention is to try to include the word “Silver” in as many of my character names as possible, either in a different language or in a form that sounds somewhat similar.
I went looking through a botany book for my Sylvari Mesmer’s name… stumbled across “Malus Sylvestris”, which is the latin name for the Crab Apple tree if memory serves me correct. Well yeah, that was taken. So I had to use “Malus Silvestris” instead. Hnng. So close to perfection
Is it definitely meant to be 25 gems and isn’t a typo on Anet’s part? It would make sense if it was 125 gems or 250. 25 gems is the cheapest thing I’ve seen in the gem store (except the freebies they sometimes “sell”)
Well, I can’t complain. I bought the skin simply because how cheap it is. I like collecting a nice variety of armour pieces and the cheaper the better
Not a mistake, this is the same price they first sold them for back in 2012
Thanks for the response Nice to know that skins were originally this cheap. It’s a shame that all other items are so expensive in comparison though
I’m kind of against mounts being implemented in game if they gave some sort of speed boost. I feel that running around is mostly fast enough, especially with waypoints in this game.
So….
I think if mounts were implemented, their use should be limited to particular areas with few waypoints. The new LS maps would fit this description pretty well I think.
Movement speed increase would be +50%, but dodging could give a brief increase on top of this (e.g. 3 seconds at +75%).
A basic mount would be purchasable using the map’s tokens (e.g. Bandit Crests or Geodes) with slightly different mounts being obtainable in each area. Obviously it’d be great to have e.g. a drake mount in one area and a giant moa mount in the next, but this might be tricky to animate and cost even more resources, so the differences between each area’s mount would be purely reskin (e.g. you could buy a Crimson Moa in Dry Top and a Black Moa in Silverwastes).
Additional mounts/mount “skins” could be purchased through the gem store, offering a wider selection of models, perhaps even seasonal editions. I would think of them similar to minis, where a particular mini could be toggled in the Hero panel- you could do the same with mounts so that your favourite mount will be chosen whenever you mount up. It would be useful if there was a hotkey option to mount up. much like there’s a hotkey option for autorun.
I would imagine that combat would be removed or severely limited whilst mounted. Perhaps by mounting up, your skills would be replaced by mount skills(so instead of the previously suggested evade to gain +75% swiftness for 3 seconds, this would be Skill 1 etc).
It’s just an idea and with the amount of mount topics here… it’s bound to have already been suggested :P (Constructive criticism would be great- problem solving is good fun!)

Snip
How about a sticky of commonly asked topics, such as this one, with links to where many of the discussions occurred? I believe one already exists:
Would this be worth creating as a sticky?
I like the idea of having a thread where people could navigate popular threads and most discussed points of these common topics- this would need to be a moderator created thread and stickied. All new threads regarding these common topics would be merged into existing topics or closed.
However, although I commend the amount of time that Listenbird has put into the “List of Controversial Forum Topics” thread, I think it would be a bad idea for this particular thread to be stickied. The initial post was terribly biased and a little sarcastic toward the “pro” arguments for most topics, which upset a lot of people, and, in my opinion, reduced the future credibility of the post as the content is still not particularly objective. On this note, I think that if an Arena-net employee stickied this thread, it would seem as though Arena-net support this subjective view and are possibly dismissing the idea of including mounts, duelling, and all the other topics involved.
So, building on what I said before, if a summary of the main arguments is stickied, I think it should completely neutral from the first time the thread is published and cover as many arguments for/against as possible. The thread would have to be locked on creation to avoid further discussion on those particular topics outside of their relevant threads.
It goes without saying that the threads/posts about popular suggestions should always be looked at and evaluated. Although there is a lot of repetitiveness amongst the threads, sometimes there are very good ideas and reasoning that goes on too. Perhaps one day somebody will suggest an idea that Anet thinks is good enough to implement, or a way to implement these ideas.
EDIT: Just realised that there is a discussion about stickying these popular topics here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Sticky-for-FAQ-type-topics

You can always join someone who already has it in their instance and mine it there. Are you on EU servers? I’ve got one in my instance if you want to mine it.
Pretty sure you can’t mine in somebody elses’ home instance.
But as already mentioned, you can buy watchwork sprockets and combine them in the mystic forge to obtain blade shards. so it’s entirely possible. It won’t be cheap, but gold can be fairly easily obtained in this game if you know where to look (selling materials, running daily dungeons etc).
Think of it as a long term goal and you’ll get there. I’m sure- If you want the coloured versions of the finished backpiece (which are ascended backpieces) I would recommend trying to purchase the coloured cores required for it as soon as you can. These no longer drop and are still in demand, meaning that their price will only go up as I seriously doubt they’d include a different way of obtaining them in the future.
Tin-Foil Hat helm skin please
I think a lot of people would be shocked by the amount of people they’ve been blocked by (judging by what a lot of people block by- literally you could just be talking in a different language or talking about something they aren’t interested in).
I think many people would be extremely curious about how many people have blocked them, but upon finding out a figure (as aforementioned, undoubtedly larger than you’d expect) they’d get upset.
I don’t really see why it would serve any sort of purpose either… /deaths /age are both somewhat useful.
Totally agree with Rauderi with a commendation system. It could be as simple as an emote function /+1"Player Name" or right click the player’s name and it would come up with “Commend” under all the other options. I think I mentioned something similar to this a looong time ago in relation to commander tags as well (with commanders that are more highly commended having something slightly different going on with their badge).
Players could then use the emote function /commendations to display “You have been commended by x players” in the chat window.
After all, it’s much nicer to find out how many people have appreciated you/your help/how you look compared to finding out how many people pretend you don’t exist :P
Am I not speaking English or something?
No your writing in English.
If you take something as minor as someone telling you you to kill yourself to heart ( which you should prolly being calling the hotline rather than here), then you would have been destroyed by my friend when I showed him this thread LOL was brutal but hilarious. Feel free to share how you feel about what he said.
You seem to neglect the fact that this is an international game with people from different backgrounds and different levels of sensitivity. I’m sure there are plenty of people who can tolerate being told “Go kill yourself” by a random stranger, but on the other hand there are also plenty of people who would find this upsetting or at the very least off-putting.
Just because you find these things hilarious doesn’t mean that this kind of abuse isn’t serious.
Even if you personally don’t care about flying insult/poor behaviour/personal attacks, it’s still against the ToS and comes under verbal abuse/harassment. Arena-net certainly doesn’t condone this type of behaviour, but at the same time it feels like Arena-net aren’t doing enough to prevent/reduce this type of behaviour. The problem is that people feel very brave sitting behind their keyboards because of the disconnect to humanity it allows (and thus a disconnect to morals and empathy).
Maybe if other fields had added condition removal (like water fields would automatically remove burning etc).
The problem is, fire fields are already pretty powerful in terms of might-stacking and general power.
This change (overall) would also reduce the effectiveness of condition builds in PvP if they could be countered by all sorts of different fields. I’m not a mechanic expert, but I would imagine that it would make engis and eles OP in terms of survivability.
I think it’s a nice idea, but would be incredibly difficult to balance and implement.
Bloody Prince staff or the Phoenix one go well with red, though both are BL skins and can be pretty pricey. Other people have mentioned cheaper alternatives.
Tamini quarterstaff is a reasonable alternative to Bloody Prince Staff. Both are very similar to each other- both have bright red flames at the top surrounded by claw-like mount/setting.
This would probably reduce arenanet’s income through microtransactions of gems.
If you could get gems through achievements, people would be able to get items from the gem store that they may have actually paid money to buy (i.e. also financiall supporting Anet after initial purchase). This is probably the biggest problem with this idea.
So if this was implemented, the amount of gems you’d receive from achievements would have to be miniscule (like, 1 gem or lessfor every 10 AP ). This might actually be beneficial arenanet as players would probably have to buy extra gems (through gold/rl money) in order to buy an item.
However, building on my previous idea, I already feel that this is already in action with 400 gems and 30g for the x5,000 or x0,000 achievement point chests.
It’s more than likely that injecting even tiny amounts of gems into the game would affect the economy (mainly transactions between gold and gems) because they become increasingly more available, especially if they implemented it and awarded gems for all retroactive achievements.
I think a lot of paying players would feel that they have been kicked in the teeth as well, as suddenly gems are being thrown around everywhere whereas they paid a premium to receive their gems.
On a far less serious point (but still a valid one), a lot of people get upset when they receive strange, non-round quantities of gems. This was particularly made apparent in the recent BLTC/Gem store overhaul when they briefly removed the ability to change gems and gold in custom amounts. Of course, right now you can buy/sell gems in every amount, but continuously give players odd amounts of gems and they’ll possibly get annoyed. This is all considering that items sold in the gem store (except sale items) are always sold at a “round number” or gems (ending in a 5 or a 0).
Snip myself.
Since their ego seems to be bound up tight with PvP, the penalty should be a stack or three of dishonor while in PvE/WvW/Fractal, a suspension.
This also seems pretty fair for the initial infraction. Suspension would definitely be the right move after multiple infractions.
The problem is, trolls flock to PvP as they know that the heightened tension amongst players is easy pickings for them. Would they care about the dishonour, do you think? Is a suspension from PvP/permaban from PvP a bit more weighty and substantial- would this sort of punishment be a preventative method too? Would they just move their trolling to somewhere else in game? (I realise that even though I ask this, trolling is very difficult to prevent in the game as a whole and my own solution probably doesn’t cover trolling prevention either).
But on the other hand, dishonour could be considered a tame punishment for some of the things that I’ve seen said to other players… PvP or not, it’s still verbal abuse/harassment and should be treated as such, no?
(edited by Crimson Clouds.4853)
A little part of me cringes whenever I read somebody says “just ignore/block them”, “get over it”, “stop being a kitten” etc. I can’t help but think that these people are defending/excusing poor behaviour.
I’d totally understand “just ignore them” it if this was a very occassional problem, but most players know that PvP is riddled with awful language and behaviour. It puts a lot of people off PvP and it’s a shame.
Telling someone to “Go kill yourself” is absolutely terrible and shouldn’t be allowed, no matter if the receiver is “thick-skinned” or not. Just a couple of people throwing around insults in a match leaves a sour taste in most peoples’ mouths and ruins the ambience and fun (unless you enjoy people verbally attacking each other…)
Anyway, just blocking/not reporting these people just lets them get away with behaviour that we all would rather not see or be subjected to. A lot of them probably feel they are untouchable either because they aren’t being reported, or the report system is flawed (or, perhaps they are lying about being reported and not being punished just for added venom).
For poor behaviour like this, I definitely think they should be resonably punished, from a 3 day suspension or a permaban. However, I think what would be more fitting would be for people reported in PvP to be specifically banned from PvP as a lot of this behaviour is brought on by competitive play and hormones (these offenders are probably OK in PvE).
Surprised Guardian hasn’t been mentioned yet. It fills the criteria very well. Guardians can be incredibly tanky and supply plenty of blocks and blinds, but also can deal awesome damage.
People would argue that you don’t have much speed buff, when actual fact it’s entirely possible to maintain 33% movement increase most to all of the time. Use staff skill number 3 and stand in the aoe for the duration of it and/or use “Retreat!” and “Save Yourselves!”. They decreased the CD on “Retreat!” from 60 seconds to 45 seconds on the last balance, I believe. You also have a leap on GS 3 which covers some decent range provided you don’t have an enemy targetted.
Yes, arguably you have to somewhat change your build for the best movement increases, but this seems to be the case with most builds anyway (except for Ranger and Warrior GS movement/leap skills).
“Excellent rewards” wait what? a green, a blue, 2-4 emp fragments, and some useless trash seal are considered “excellent rewards”?
As I said… I have 10+ characters parked up at Under New Management, so I get all of these rewards 10 fold. I open all of these chests within 5 minutes and get all of that loot. Yes. Excellent rewards- for something that is farmable and requires very little effort.
I could create more level 20’s to park up there for a good chance of silver doubloons.
About a year ago for a number of months, I seem to remember averaging a rare across 6 characters every 1-2 days. I don’t seem to get rares as frequently anymore, but I’m not sure if this is an actual JP chest nerf or cognitive bias… either way I feel that the current rewards or purposeful nerf of the rewards both back up my point rather well in the sense that A ) the rewards are still pretty good or, B ) they were so good that Anet decided to nerf them.
You can’t really make the JP rewards any better without making them OP in relation to the other rewards in game.
I think this is a bad idea. I already have more than 10 characters parked at jumping puzzles because of the excellent rewards. The extra materials and a chance for a rare/exotic/precursor is enough for me to put the characters I don’t use/not currently using up at the chest.
Being guaranteed multiple ectos a day would be terrible for the economy. It would also bring up lots of “pay to win” arguments. I’m not sure about the exact stats for ecto salvaging, but from what I estimate it’s a little over 1 ecto for each level 68+ rare using a mystic/master salavage kit. So in this market I could get somewhere between 3-4g every day in very little time and effort.
This would certainly drop the price of rares and ectos and possibly increase the kind of inflation we’ve already seen in game (not certain about this as I’m no economist).
Snip
They just need to add Milestones (just like the new JP) to disallow parking characters. Keep the rewards as they are (for those who park) and add increased rewards for those who collect all the milestones. Milestones should be set in a way that prevents getting the end reward with a single portal (start – to chest) and instead require the players to do the largest part of the JP. Otherwise increased JP rewards won’t make any sense
I’m not sure how I feel about this solution. It seems like a reasonable idea- if you wanted the quick achievements you could just get a portal, if you want rewards you do the whole JP. I think increasing JP rewards would be a bad move though- it is easy to run through a lot of them in a short amount of time with multiple characters. In my head I see hundreds of people doing JPs to farm rewards, and I would get frustrated in the cramped environment (probably stuck behind a huge norn in swirly robes).
If there were such good rewards, this would need to be once-a-day-per-account type reward, like world boss chests. Get the bonus (for completing milestones) once a day for your account, but complete the JP again on a different char and just get the chest reward at the end. This would also mean that it’s as fair as it is now and people with a lot of characters aren’t massively benefitting from it
Hmm.
Personal opinion disguised as consensus.
Nice formatting though Lishtenbird.
While he does have his personal opinion on the matters, based on the matters, and the arguments both for and against, one can see that such an opinion IS generally what the community holds as well. While you may or may not agree with them, I feel he did a great job at summing up the various topics that repeatedly pop up, and what is generally said in them, drawing a logical conclusion from there.
It’s certainly much better than it was originally- although I feel that it is still a little biased, it is much less biased.
The problem is that a lot of people were put off by how biased and snarky/sarcastic the original thread was and now have probably dismissed the credibility of it (no matter how much work goes into it to make it more objective).
I still have to commend Listenbird for the amount of time that has gone into this though.
I agree with Chameleon Dude.
Another problem it would stir up is that you always start with a main-hand weapon, and then you get your offhand selection when you level up or complete the story. This would result in confusing rewards for new players if they started with e.g. a Staff and then were given a Focus.
I’ve seen this suggested before… a lot of people weren’t happy about it because there are people who have bought multiple infinite gathering tools for whatever reason (like the different animations, bought watchwork for sprockets, more convenient to have sets on their mains).
So… it would be unfair for somebody who didn’t spend as much to have the same advantage as somebody who spent more. If this happened, I don’t think A-net would be able to fully refund those who did buy say, the Log-r-tron and the Frost Wasp Axe. This is because they are two different products and the owners still get the aesthetic benefit of having different tools.
Moreover, this would decrease the sales for these types of tools. As already mentioned, lots of people buy multiple sets so they don’t have to constantly switch them across characters.
I can think of some potential work-arounds though. Perhaps A-net should implement more diverse drops from these tools (like Watchwork Pick producing sprockets) to entice people to have a selection and continue buying them. E.g. have the Bone tools give a chance to drop t1-6 bones (obviously higher chance for t1 bones). Have it so that only the original tool can drop these benefits whereas a “skinned” tool cannot, even though a “skinned” tool will be infinite.
You guys don’t play PvP do you¿
If you do… This would ruin it….
Duh -.-
I’m not a massive PvP player…. would you mind explaining how this would ruin PvP?
Would it not just change things… and then everything would settle down again once people got used to it?
I’m sure there are workaround for it, like balancing certain utility skills or utility skill types/traits.
Even if this was a huge problem for PvP… they could just not include such a change in PvP. As far as I see it the change would be most beneficial for PvE exploring for short encounters.
I’d like to see this!
It would increase build diversity. (I know people will say "What’s the point, there is always only one meta build… blahblahblah).
I can think of a lot of times where I’ve wanted to scrap my elite in favour of an extra utility. This is mainly when exploring where fights aren’t long enough/difficult enough to bother using my elite because of long cool-downs and where I “lose” one skill slot from a passive speed boost (where applicable). Having extra utility would be helpful because of lower c-d on utility skills so I feel like I’m using my whole skill range whilst I’m exploring.
I agree with what most people have said here already.
I love the amount of time you’ve spent on fleshing out your race proposal. It’s lovely to see somebody who is so enthusiastic and creative.
But I feel that we already have the “cat people” in game. I also feel that A-net/NCsoft wanted to break the mould with Charr; even though they are a feline race, they aren’t the cutesy, possibly sexualised, anime cat-girl type character.
I’d rather that they implement a race that we already have seen, like Tengu, Kodan, Skritt or the elusive Largos. These race already have some back-story so fit into the game (and the current geography) very well. I think they’d only be able to introduce a race we haven’t seen yet if they introduce a new continent, where it would make sense that we haven’t met any of them yet.
Here is my feedback and suggestions to add depth to your interesting story:
On a personal level, I like basically all of your proposal except the anime cat-girl-like nature of the race. The back story seems interesting, but I do find the ex-fifth tribe very cliche though… it’s very common in a lot of stories and currently seems very bland and 2-dimensional. We see this kind of back story a lot in Guild Wars (like the Flame Legion, Sons of Svanir etc) but their stories are fleshed out and make sense. What they have in common though is a lust for power, but their methods are pretty different and that’s what makes it interesting. Explain why the Nyarr are overcome by negative emotion, why they are fanatics. Perhaps increased emotion increased their power, strength and mind powers? How did this affect their society?
Another personal suggestion would be to change the names of the tribes. All these words beginning with Ny or Ni are very difficult to remember. I understand that this might be down to the linguistics of these people, but it’s important for players to get a feel for the language and culture without being confused. I’d also personally steer clear of “nyan” because of its placement in pop culture… but then if you really want to stick with cutesy anime catgirls I guess it makes sense….
I also noticed that the place names you used (Shinigami, Leylafyell etc) come from real-life words. That in itself isn’t a problem, but I do find it odd that Japanese and Scandinavian come together in this way.
My recommendation to you (in order to further develop and add depth to your race) is to start devising a simple language for these people. Start out with just a few key sounds that are distinguishing to the race and form a few words that might often be used. I’d suggest devising some greetings, some terms of endearment, some exclaimations and some insults as these can be thrown into dialogue easily without confusing the reader. Use this language along with English (and maybe your language+English combined) to devise place names that are meaningful. This increases the realism of your race by removing the mishmash of real-life references from different cultures.
Here come the questions….:
What are their relationships like within groups? How do they organise themselves in terms of heirarchy? Do they have monogamous life-long relationships? How does one of these people choose another for a relationship- what do they find attractive? How do they raise their children? What are their traditions? How do they believe their Gods affect them- can they be blessed or cursed? How do they age- do they live shorter or longer lives compared to humans? What do they eat?
What are their jobs like? What kind of technology do they have, if any?
What are their buildings like? What is their surrounding environment like? Do they have any problems like famine, drought, floods, disease, hot/cold?
What was their history like? Where did they originally come from? How does the current world connect to them to discover them?
What would their racial skills be like? What would their cultural weapons and armour be like (and what stat combination)? What kinds of things would you be able to change in character customisation except the normal (e.g. fur pattern and colour, ear shape, tail length/shape)? What would their 3 pet options be for ranger creation? What would their biography choices be like clan, chakra…? How would these affect their personal story?
What cultural “nuances” do they have (e.g. norns like to party)? Do they have any common fears (e.g. I think I’ve heard that Asura dislike water)? Explain the origins for these!
I hope you enjoy filling in their whole story as much as I’ll enjoy reading about it Sorry if I asked too many questions… I wanted to be thorough!

I wish that the argument summaries for/against were a bit more balanced and didn’t just sound like the OPs opinion.
I feel that if this was a neutral summary about these ubiquitous topics, this thread would be sticky material.
But because of the obvious bias that the OP has about the topics, it just seems like this is just another one of those mounts/new race/new weapons/race changing/hideable armour threads. It’s just not useful and it’s a crying shame because of the amount of time that obviously went into the summary.
This thread is going to majorly upset people who are pro- mounts/duelling/new race etc. It’ll become what the OP wanted to avoid. Let the arguments commence…
Ascended gear is most wortwhile if you regularly run high level fractals. Ascended gear has infusion slots which are needed to add Agony Resistance infusions (to reduce the amount of damaged received by the condition “Agony” which can be inflicted by specific attacks from foes in fractals).
The stat increase between exotic gear and ascended gear isn’t huge. By no means does it suddenly make you massively OP. It’s useful in some circumstances where it might make you succeed because you needed that fraction more survivability or damage, but once again, this is only really going to make a difference in high level fractals, some difficult dungeons and min/maxing.
I’ve seen people say that the stat increase is around 6% from exotic to ascended gear, but can also be equated to 10-15% under certain scenarios and certain builds. These figures could be completely off, so don’t quote me on them :P I’m just going from memory.
I would certainly recommend the ascended trinkets (bought with laurels and/or guild commendations) as these have a hefty difference stat-wise compared to exotic trinkets. They are also cheap comparing to ascended weapons and armour.
People also argue that crafting an ascended weapon is worthwhile because of the increased damage that the ascended weapons have compared to exotic. However, I would only suggest getting artificer/huntsman/weaponsmith to 500 if you’re going to craft multiple weapons for different characters as it costs somewhere around 100g in materials.. and that’s before you start making the weapon!
Ascended armour is kind of prestigious- it’s a gold sink and a way to show your wealth. But most people agree that the ascended armour is ugly (it’s also pretty difficult to dye). The weapons are generally a bit nicer looking though
@xDudisx- it has a huge knock-on effect, meaning people with exotic trinket drops lose out on money for their item. The materials used to craft these will sink, which can affect other markets. Dark matter probably has a calculated value, and although it isn’t trade-able, a lot of people buy exotics specifically for dark-matter salvaging (which would mean, on a more minor scale, that other exotics might be affected).
Either way, the SW Amber chest nerf has affected these prices. When the farm was active, from what I saw the Jars were 17s each, last time I checked post-nerf they’re somewhere around 27s. I’m not sure if that’s enough of an increase to change things though.
In Guild Wars 1 each party would accept their side of the trade and then both would have to complete the trade (after viewing what the other party was trading). Sounds perfect right? But it was flawed: there was a way in which scammers would quickly change the item their trading for a cheaper item with a similar name or sprite.
This, along with the amount of trade spam and the amount of time you had to use to stand around and trade an item, probably put the nail in the coffin.
I see the trade taxes in this way: if I’m selling a cheap item, 15% tax is negligible. If it’s an expensive item, 15% is fine because I’d pay that any day for a safe trade.
Also, if anet put in an official “safe” direct player-to-player trading system… would it not result in a split economy or two economies? There’d be competition between the TP and the direct trading system, which would cause an unbalance, right?
There was a fantastic thread written by a guild leader on tips about leading a guild, but unfortunately I’m struggling to find the thread. I’ll have another look soon and edit it in if I find it.
I was an officer in a guild at one point and helped in making some important decision in that guild. I’m good at understanding group dynamics and psychology, so I’ll do what I can with advice (even though I’m not a leader).
1) Expect leading a guild to drain a lot of time away from your day and your play time. Most of your time online will probably be planning and running guild events or helping guildies out.
2) Only do this if you get great satisfaction out of helping people. If it’s often that you’d rather be left alone to be in a quiet mood and solo, being a guild leader is probably a poor choice.
3) Have 2 or 3 trustworthy friends at your side who you can employ as leaders and officers. You need support as a leader, even if you start small you need the infrastructure there from the start or you’ll get out of control. Make sure to employ more people to fulfil active roles in your guild, like running guild events, commanding, moderating TeamSpeak, setting up a website etc… these things will appear as the guild grows. Along with this comes good communication. Make sure that your team can speak to you about anything (in-game or personal) so you’re on the same page.
4) Before you even start a guild, write a very detailed set of rules for you and your team to use. You can make a simplified version of the rules for you guild. Make sure you cover exactly what is and isn’t allowed (e.g. using X swearword is ok, but Y swearword goes beyond the line and results in a warning. Guild rule would be: “Keep swearing to a minimum”.). Try and consider every infraction you might come across.
5) Keep tabs on which members get warnings. It’s very important to be fair. I’ve seen guilds where some people got away with murder whereas others would be banned for minor infringements- this destroys morale. Try and remove troublemakers from the equation- if somebody is causing a few people to become upset, they definitely need to be removed.
6) Be approachable! A lot of people will want to ask questions, be ready and willing to help out when you can. Offering a friendly face, good charisma and trustworthiness means that you will retain more guildies and fewer will infringe the rules. It also means that people with problems against other guildies will be more able to talk to you.
7) Make sure that your guild has a direction: what characteristics would you like your guild to have? PvP, WvW, PvE, PvX, Roleplay, Community-based, Hardcore, Relaxed, Mature, Younger-audience, International, Mentoring-based, World-boss, 100% rep, non-100%… the list could go on. I would suggest selecting a couple of key play-styles/game areas as well as an audience group. Once you’ve made up your mind on the direction, think of a catchy and interesting way of advertising your guild. Try to stand out from the other adverts.
8) Set up a rota for guild events: missions, WvW groups, PvP evenings, Map completion evenings, Lotteries, Dungeon/fractal runs, Hide and Seek etc. Having this kind of get-together activity will nurture friendships in the guild and make your guild an attractive place to be. Let your guildies create their own events and suggest ideas to you on what they want.
9) Advertise as often as you can and employ guildies to do the same if they’re willing. Sometimes it’s good to have a short interview with anybody joining the guild as it can be a good indicator if they’ll suit your guild or not. It can be a bit of a hassle though, and people can be on their “best behaviour” when speaking to an officer who’s inviting them in.
10) Reward players who are active and helpful in your guild. This could mean few things: praising them/saying thank you/acknowledging them (this is really important) or maybe even giving them responsibility/making them an officer (if they want to). Use rewards to catalyse more good behaviour rather than spawn jealously though.
11) Be as active as you can and try to make sure there are moderators/officers online whenever you have players online. I have seen lots of incidences where the right people weren’t online to stop rule infringement and it got out of hand. If you’re short on officers, I would suggest making a new e-mail and allowing people to send screen-shots of rule-infringement.
12)If two people dislike each other, try to keep them away from each other. If they constantly bicker and start to affect other guildies, remove them!
13) I realise I’ve been really heavy and moody with my suggestions kitten many of them are about reducing rule-breaking and drama. You’ve got to be prepared for all! Try your best to be a glowing example of the rules and be as helpful and kind as you can be. A good guild leader is the glue that holds everybody together.

I have one of every profession, 2 of most and currently 3 guardians.
Why so many?
I’m an altaholic. I like designing characters and their overall aesthetic. I like to work towards particular weapons or armours to finish my characters. I enjoy playing characters differently, using different weapon sets whilst levelling the same profession gives you a whole new experience of that profession.
I really enjoy map completion and the rewards it gives. I like to gather a lot of materials so map completion kinda validates this in an exciting way. I’m sure there are ways to farm the materials I’m after, or get lots of money by doing dungeons every day… but that’s just not my playstyle.
I think playing so many different characters is a detriment when it comes to doing fractals or working towards expensive things. I definitely drain a lot of my money and resources gearing out new level 80’s and transferring gold to gems for new character slots.
Having so many characters and favourites is tough too- you end up switching through mains/having multiple mains, but you still feel constricted to one character because they might have the ascended gear with the infusions, or infinite gathering tools. (Yes, they are account bound, but it’s inconvenient to swap things around all the time).
I would recommend to most serious players to get all professions to level 80 to understand their mechanics (so you’re more useful and understanding in a dungeon teams/parties). It’s also nice to experience most of the story options along with each race’s lore and feel.
We already have auto-kick for inactive players in some game modes. Maybe commander tags should get an auto-untag feature that automatically deactivates their tag when the commander is afk for a certain length of time.
This is a great idea!
When it comes down to it, Commanders aren’t breaking game rules by being tagged up and afk and shouldn’t get punished for something like this. Doing something as simple as auto-untag when there’s 5/10 minutes without any activity is a perfect solution: the afk commander doesn’t get complained at and people don’t waste their time by grouping at an afk tag.
Although commanders should know what they’re doing, they don’t necessarily have to and don’t have to follow some “unwritten commanding law”.
I’ve always wondered why people run straight to a tag in a random pve map and then complain if it’s not what they expected. Just ask if you’re curious, I see too many people waste their own time and rage about it.
That being said, it’d be great to have an option (as a commander) to toggle an event you’re leading so that people on the map could see. For example, as a commander you’d be able to right click the event in your area and select “Toggle Event/Toggle Event Chain”. Players would then see the event you’re leading below your name when they mouse you on the mini-map.
I wasn’t suggesting that this problem would mean that dying weapons wouldn’t happen. Just that it would require a lot of thought and time to actually implement without resulting in advantages/disadvantages for some people, and that these things must be considered
The new winter outfit that was data-mined looks very similar to the second picture that you posted, so you’ll probably be happy with that: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2i39r5/datamining_another_new_outfit_set_from_the/
I would also love a new ice/water style outfit, because right now it’s hard to find a set that looks really in-tune with these elements. The same applies for earth and air, but at least we had the new black lion claim ticket weapons for an ‘airy’ look.
However, from current events, I doubt they’d introduce new armour outside of the living story (or PvP). The armour will be themed towards the living story, so I guess we will have to wait a bit until we’re either somewhere cold or fighting an icy boss.
Motoii: I recommend what Garambola said and give her the precursor. That’s much more exciting in my opinion- it opens an opportunity for her, a journey with an exciting goal. Being given a legendary without putting much effort into it is disappointing as she has skipped the exciting journey and all the hard-work. She’ll appreciate it less.
It also opens up opportunity to play with her when farming. You could also make your own legendary whilst she farms for hers so it’s a journey you can do together. Much more romantic and thoughtful than just giving her the end result.
I play the game with my boyfriend. I asked him what he thought of your scenario and we both agreed that a precursor would be better than a legendary.
2 different inputs is absolutely fine, even if it is controlled by one player.
The problem is when you use the same controls for two accounts and play them simultaneously using just one set of inputs (as this gives you an unfair advantage).
