Racial skills

Crimson Clouds.4853

I think A-net included the skills to add an extra dimension to each race. Although they have little application, I’m grateful that they included them.

For instance, I think it would be a travesty if I rolled a Norn and was never able to transform into a Bear etc.

It also resonates a little with GW1 where there were Racial Skills that you obtained after you earned Faction after completing particular quests.

I found some of the skills handy when I was levelling up, anyways. They’re certainly not that useful at level 80 because you can’t trait into them. (Edit: Like Riku, I use the Charr Shout. I use it on my Might Stacking S/D Ele that I’m levelling).

And like you said, these skills simply can’t be OP or particularly useful. If there was a niche build or useful application for any one of them (that outshone any of the base-skills), people would feel pressured to roll that particular race. A-net wanted Race to feel different only in respect to Lore and Aesthetic.

[Suggestion] Race Reroll Token

Crimson Clouds.4853

I read somewhere on a red-post that A-net doesn’t have any plans to implement such a thing.

As has already been said, Race is hard-coded into the game and so many aspects of a character (Skills, Story, Armour etc). It would be a massive undertaking to change such a thing for very little return comparatively. There would be a huge amount of “what-ifs” regarding all items and aspects affected by an item, and that would result in a ridiculous amount of fine-print for a gem-store item.

All I can recommend is to buy an extra character slot on Gem Store and make a new character. If you want to level fast, horde Experience Tomes and Writs of Experience (20 = 1 level).

I can assure you that you’ll hit level 80 on your rerolled/new char before they introduce a “Race Changer” item.

Failing what Mike said, I find this site: http://argos-soft.net/GW2/WeaponGallery/index.php?weapon=16&lang=en very useful. Obviously it doesn’t give the scale of the weapons compared to the character, but I find it to be the best option if I want to look through all skins at a glance.

As for suggestions of skins to use, the smallest/roundest shield skin I can think of is the Aetherized Shield. Unfortunately, it’s one of the most expensive shields up there.

Congratulations OP and to everybody else who have met their SO in-game

Gorgeous name choice, too

I met my boyfriend in GW1. We’ve been together for almost 4 years now and it has resulted in me moving to Norway to live with him and start a life together I’m a little young to have kids yet (imo), but perhaps one day.

Sometimes I wonder where I’d be right now if I hadn’t chosen to start playing GW1, or had joined a different guild (instead of the one I met him in). Considering things like that weirds me out a bit but it also makes me very grateful towards the Holy Real-Life RNGeezus.

Immobilised In Mid Air

Crimson Clouds.4853

I get this bug quite often on my guardian because I like to jump around and also use GS skill 3 often.

What is especially annoying about it is that when you’re in mid-air, you can’t use skills. Some immobilisation is pretty long, so it’s fairly frustrating.

I know this is all just anecdotal evidence on my part, but I can certainly vouch that this happens.

EDIT: Just want to clarify that the immobilisation I’ve experienced only occurs when hit with an immobilising skill. Usually you’ll be pulled straight onto the ground if you’re in mid-air, but sometimes you’ll be barely floating (and vibrating, for lack of a better term). Most commonly I’ve found that this happens when the terrain isn’t flat- trees, rocks etc are most commonly the cause.

I think it’s a matter of principle. As soon as A-net let people change their account names to something they want, they’ll have a massive influx of people asking to do so. Suddenly CS will be inundated with unnecessary tickets.

You don’t need to be level 80 to enjoy PvP.

In PvP you get all skills, gear and traits you need without being level 80.

In WvW you get upscaled to level 80, so even if you’re level 3 you’ll be doing similar damage output to a level 80. (The only difference will be stats affected by your gear and traits).

PvE maps are shared by all EU or NA servers. It is called a megaserver. For example, my home server is Gandara, but in PvE I can run around maps with friends from Underworld, Desolation, you name it. The only difference server makes is in WvW- that’s the place I play only with my fellow Gandara members. Moving servers will not influence how many people you see around you in PvE maps.

It might be that you’re just unlucky, or that you’re in maps that aren’t as populated. All starter areas often have lots of people in them, but middle-level zones don’t often have as many people. You’ll often find huge groups of people at World Bosses and outside dungeon entrances.

EU and NA servers don’t mix, if you want to move to an NA server (from an EU server) you will have to delete all of your characters to do so.

Also, joining a top WvW server isn’t necessarily the best option to choose. Often the best WvW servers have the longest queue times to get into the maps. I’ve heard some people have to wait for an hour or more just to get a spot in WvW.

While I know there is a plethora of types of disabilities… isn’t our gw2 iconic disabled character (that a lot of disabled people were super happy to meet) an asura?!

Just wanted to highlight this.

Grackle, look up Taimi on the wiki.

I know many players who have praised A-net a thousand times because of the inclusion of Taimi. It appears that she has a walking problem and relies on Scruffy (her golem) because of a degenerative disease. Even with her disability, she is an important member of the “biconics”. Without her, the team would be clueless and directionless!

So, I guess my point is this. If A-net was really insensitive and wanted to “hate on” people with disabilities, they wouldn’t have included Taimi. The fact that Taimi is included shows that they support equal rights for people with disabilities and it was also seen as a “calling out” to all of the players on GW2 that have a disability.

I, for one, certainly am proud of A-net for including a character like Taimi. I think it’s awesome, grounding and a breath of fresh air.

I want to say that you’re looking at the quote from a skewed perspective (and not the intended one). Knowing how supportive A-net are of people with disabilities, I very much doubt they intended for this phrase to be looked at from such a perspective.

I just want to clarify this: All female asura say this, no matter the profession. It’s just a quote they say when they enter combat. Another one that the female asura say is “I majored in pain, with a minor in suffering” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Manifold/Player_character_quotes)

Either way, Grackle… of course, you’re offended by it (and nobody can say otherwise). But I think a lot of people would agree that it’s not something worth getting offended over. It wasn’t intended to be offensive or construded as such.

“Dumb” in this sense means stupid. In many other contexts it is used in such a way.

If you’re arguing that in this sense “dumb” is referring to the ability to not speak, my asura has used this quote against plenty of enemies that can speak.

SirWarriant is also correct- Asura look down on everybody. They believe that their intelligence is superior. It’s just a quirk of their race.

Here’s a solution for you: If you really don’t like the phrase (to the point it gives you a panic attack), you could obtain a Make Over Kit and change your gender from male to female. Male asura do not use this quote. Hope this helps

AFKing in a match is certainly a reportable offence. I’m fairly sure that A-net have said before that the best way to report an afk/leecher in PvP is to report as botting.

Would be nice if there was a separate reporting option though.

Like I said:

EDIT: Just wanted to add, I think the reason why they haven’t added an “AFK” option to the report drop-down is because including it would result in abuse of the option along with a huge increase in the efforts/resources from CS/Moderation.

Making an “AFK” report option accessible will mean it will be abused. A lot of sore-losers will likely use it on the enemy team or even their own team.

I can also imagine people using an “AFK” report option in other game modes, which would mean that this report function would end up being used outside its intended use.

Of course, A-net won’t punish somebody if somebody wrongfully reports them, but it still means that A-net will end up with a much higher pile of reports to filter through

EDIT: snip.

Well, they really can’t add that option to report system. After all, being AFK by itself is not against the rules. And while AFK leeching is not strictly botting, that category still seems to fit the case.

Well said and good point

Crimson Clouds.4853

It’d be awesome to be able to easily do dungeons with variable numbers of people. I reckon it would be a big undertaking for A-net to implement, so like Stale said, just story dungeons would be pretty awesome.

I play GW2 with my boyfriend. I don’t enjoy PUGs that much- often the party environment is sterile or hostile. I think I’d do a lot more dungeons if solo-ing or duo-ing was possible (and reasonably scaled).

But to answer your question, Ashalind, all dungeons currently recommend 5 players in the party. It is possible in some dungeons to complete them with fewer, or even solo, but not for the casual player. Many dungeons have mechanics which make it near impossible with less than 5 (CoF P1 springs to mind, the gate before the end boss where 1 person attacks the controller and 4 people are required to stand within fiery “cages”).

What an excellent suggestion! Orpheal’s list is pretty awesome, but I have a few additions:

Areas: Kryta, Ascalon, Shiverpeaks and Maguuma all have music specific to the areas (as idle interludes). Orr and Maguuma Wastes could also be added under this sub-heading.

Having options for cutscenes and PS would also be pretty neat. (One of my favourite pieces from GW2 is actually played during cutscenes and PS. Can’t remember what it’s called, but it’s staccato strings- reminds me of people tip-toeing around and being all sneaky.)

Vistas often have their own music too. An instrumenal version of “Fear not this night” seems to be pretty common at least in Caledon forest- I wonder if the music chosen for a vista is dependent on the area the vista is within.

“22. While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder. This also includes disrupting other people’s game experience by not actively participating in matches in good faith, a.k.a leeching.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/

AFKing in a match is certainly a reportable offence. I’m fairly sure that A-net have said before that the best way to report an afk/leecher in PvP is to report as botting.

You could try to contact support with relevant screenshots/chat information if this also supports the case.

Leaving a PvP match, however, is not reportable. When you leave a PvP match during play, you will get a debuff “dishonour” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dishonorable), which is A-net’s way of punishing the majority of players who cause problems.

Of course, people who just camp at respawn (and move around enough not to get auto-kicked) are still invulnerable to the above mechanic, so reporting is the best way to deal with them.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, I think the reason why they haven’t added n “AFK” option to the report drop-down is because including it would result in abuse of the option along with a huge increase in the efforts/resources from CS/Moderation.

Order change isn’t going to happen, sorry about that.

If it’s the order specific armour you want, roll another character and make it join Order of Whispers. You will then be able to buy Order of Whispers armour, and although the armour will be soulbound to that character, the armour skins will be available in your wardrobe, so you can use it on your Thief.

Or, you could even try to make an exact replica of your original Thief and play through the Order of Whispers story on the replica. You then have the experience, but you also get to keep your original char, his progression and age (for birthday rewards).

I had this problem before. Anything that was heavy on the graphics and the screen would black out (GW2 was a big culprit). Normal use (surfing the web, youtube) didn’t make my graphics crash. Sounds similar to what you’re facing- it was ok for about 30 mins of playing and then would black out.

I think what I did was uninstall the last update from my graphics driver and it worked absolutely fine. I’ve updated my nvidia graphics since and everything has been ok. (Exactly what Kreejaffa said).

Vanquish, the hard mode and the elite zones?

Crimson Clouds.4853

Putting 2 and 2 together here.

I heard that one of the reasons why Anet implemented mega-servers were beacuse of two things:
-Reducing strain on servers (fewer versions of maps need to be made and maintained- rather than many low population shards, there will be few high population shards)
-Keeping the maps well populated (increasing player satisfaction).

If instanced vanquishing areas were introduced, this work would be undone.

It made sense in GW1 as all maps were instances anyway. Also, from what I’ve heard, mob roaming AI is very different in GW1 and GW2, it would be very difficult to implement because of this (GW1 had groups of mobs roaming, GW2 have lots of singular mobs roaming).

I was thinking of doing it with map instances of course. I mean, we are already doing it with the season 2 of the living story and the whole personal story anyway! Maybe it doesn’t have to be done on the entire maps but by chunks?

There is quite a difference in supporting small, short instances such as PS/LS and area vanquishes. I seem to remember that GW1 vanquishes (for normal sized areas) would take 1-2 hours to clear. From what I understand, GW2 maps are significantly larger and have more foes and more spread out. Vanquishing a map would take much longer than in GW1: this means more server space will have to be dedicated to instances than in GW1 too. Server space costs money!

Another huge factor is that GW2 has a Z axis, meaning that there is even more area for foes to inhabit. It would be easy to miss foes on top of vistas, JPs or in caves.

Also, remember than GW1 had foes marked out on the radar as red dots? This made vanquishing large areas substantially easier because you wouldn’t miss out on mobs. Without this feature in GW2, expect vanquishing to be frustrating and laborious.

Your suggestion of having small areas to vanquish would be good. I think the most fitting areas for Vanquishing are dungeon instances. Party members could interact with a challenge mote at the start (just after picking a path) which would start an event in the dungeon e.g. “Foes Vanquished: 23 out of 112” with one of those orange fill bars. Once all foes have been killed, you get a jiggly chest that contains some rare loot and possibly dungeon tokens. The amount of loot depends on how many foes are in that instance.

Dungeons tend to be quite linear- it would be less easy to miss foes in there.

I would also assume that it is within A-net’s power to be able to host more dungeon instances fairly easily for what they are. They must be less of a “server drain” than whole map shards.

There will be no GvG GW1 style, why do you think there will be?

“Gather supply to hire soldiers. Battle for control of heroes. Man the trebuchet to defend your stronghold, and storm the enemy gates to defeat the guild lord! Use our new guild team feature to team up and battle to the top of the leaderboards. Stronghold offers an entirely new way to play competitive PvP in Guild Wars 2!”

I thought this is what they were talking about.

Apparently Stronghold will also be 5v5, far from real “GvG”. This is because Stronghold will be in the normal rotation of PvP maps, which all are 5v5. Of course, there still is the option to make enter PvP with a party full of guild members. Not sure if it’s still possible to make an 8v8 custom arena, too.

I seem to remember a GvG CDI thread. Who knows if GvG is coming in HoT, but I doubt it will be in the form of Stronghold. GvG might be something announced in the future, before release.

For the sake of immersion, it makes sense.

Wanze has already mentioned it. If you go help somebody on your main character and complete a heart-task, the heart vendor recognises you and rewards you for your efforts with a reward for the main character.

I also agree with Beldin though, currently the system makes less sense than it used to (when karma was soulbound).

However, on an important note, keep karma-bought items soulbound seems pretty important to me. It creates incentive to do particular tasks/control events on your alt (meaning more game-play/replayability).

I would recommend playing a race that you haven’t already. So that leaves you with Norn, Asura and Charr.

It depends what aesthetic and story you want. Racial skills aren’t really important. Personally I love the asura aesthetic because it’s so different to others ones. Norn story is my personal favourite though- Wayfarer’s Foothills is also my favourite starter zone.

As for RP-ing, I always think Norns and Charr make awesome Guardians or Warriors (because they’re kind of feisty). But you don’t have to go with normal convention! I have an asuran guardian and I love him to bits.

-Find a new guild. You complain that nobody in your guild is ever on. There’s quite an easy solution to finding a new one. Look on the guild recruiting boards of the forums, on gw2community.com or even just announce “LF large active guild” in LA or DR.

-Learn how to play Fractals. There is a lot more structure there. High level fractals are challenging- they require you to know your build inside-out. You can’t just “sit in the back and hit 2 and 5” there. Depending on your other team-mates, you might have to run a different class than your main. High level fractals require AR and Ascended Gear- something that is a relatively long-term goal. Low level fractals give you rewards that can progress you towards higher level fractals.

-There are a few things that are designed for more than 5 people. Guild Missions, Teq/Tri Wurm, WvW. Try them out. If you like some of them a lot, work towards buying a commander tag and learn how to command them.

-OR you could just disappear, considering you don’t seem to like the game as it currently stands. You could pop back in at HoT and ask what new features have been released and decide if you want to get the expansion or not.

Here’s my opinion on what you’re going through:
To me, it sounds like you have yet to explore the game thoroughly to find out the things you could do and could learn. But you simply don’t want to explore to find the new things- they’re not handed to you on a plate like you want them to be. If you don’t want to play it, find another game. Not everyone is going to like GW2.

Honestly, since I’ve owned a Copper Fed Salvage-o-Matic I’ve not encountered any of the problems you face.

Salvage whites, blues and greens with the Salvage-o-Matic. Hold onto 1 or 2 Masters/Mystic Salvage Kits for the occassional rare that is worth more to salvage than sell.

Go by merchants every so often to sell any junk or green sigils/runes that you might’ve picked up.

Deposit any materials by clicking the cog in the top right corner and click “deposit materials”.

Remove any items that you don’t use frequently in your inventory. Store them in your bank. The items that you might use, keep them at the start of your inventory (or in an invisible bag) so that you can compact your inventory and they won’t get moved about.

Having infinite gathering tools is also useful as it saves a few inventory spaces that might be used on extra mithril/orichalcum tools and spares.

Yes but it’s lvl 11. You have to do 1-10 to get there. How can you play the same thing 10 times and still have no idea what you’re doing?

By no means do you have to have done level 1-10 to play a level 11 fractal. By doing a level 11 fractal without doing any previous fractals you would have a reward level at level 1. That’s the only difference.

Crimson Clouds.4853

AP is a pretty good indicator, up to a certain point.

If a player has less than 1,000 AP, chances are they aren’t going to be familiar with very many dungeon paths. It’s pretty easy to get up to 1,000 AP your first char to 80 over a few days just by levelling (exploring, killing, using weapons, doing the occasional event, etc).

However, as rwolf mentioned a few posts above me, there are plenty of anomalies.

People with second accounts might have a vast knowledge of the game, but very little to show for it on an alt account. I’ve actually experienced this myself- people have a go at you if you’re on a very low level char (with low AP) in PvP.

I have known some very adept newbies in my time as well. If a player has a general familiarity with MMOs/Video Games, they will have a better feel for playing (skill-chaining, tactics, when to drop buffs/debuffs). Some will also watch a video-guide of a dungeon before entering meaning that they have a pretty good idea of what is going on without playing the dungeon before as well.

After this low AP threshold, any sort of basis of “dungeon knowledge” is unfounded.

Because once you’ve gotten to 80, you can do anything you like in game really. LS, PS, WvW, Crafting, Collections and Dailies all give a huge amount of AP and it is very easy to get a lot very fast. If you are an avid AP hunter, you can easily get “reasonable amount” of AP before you learn about meta-builds/dungeon builds, party tactics and the sort.

Snip.

Well, no. It’s not even a double entendre, it’s a single entendre. The OP was talking about taking someone’s their clothes off (armour is the only clothes we have in game). And tickling. Either of those things could be sexual; both together would tend to reinforce that idea. It’s not the only interpretation, but it is a reasonable one. Albeit that the “ERP” hadn’t gotten very far.

I wouldn’t say that tickling is strictly sexual- in fact, I believe for many people that tickling primarily has child-like connotations. It is common to tickle babies and young children. From what was said in the OP, the fact that the player being ‘tickled’ was small supports this theme.

Removing armour to be able to tickle more effective also seems pretty innocent. Wearing fewer clothes, on its own also seems pretty innocent. Perhaps it’s the combination of two fairly innocent concepts that make it “dirty” in the eyes of the GL.

I still have to agree with Notebene, it seems like the GL was purposefully looking for an “undertone” in the RP. With a certain frame of mind, a lot can be taken out of context and made to seem much worse than it is. It is then difficult for a while to see a subject from a neutral perspective.

I do agree with you though, Olvendred. It was certainly a poorly proportioned response to what seems to be a minor infraction (if one at all). I would understand an officer /w or /g saying “Enough of that, please, before it gets out of hand”. Further action would seem reasonable if somebody contacted an officer because they felt uncomfortable.

But hey, when it comes down to it a GL can do whatever he/she wants in terms of rules and punishments. The limitations are the GW2 ToS and putting their own reputations on the line.

Maybe it’s also worth letting the waters calm before stirring it up again? Maybe in a week or so, it’s all water under the bridge and the GL dosen’t mind so much, or has had some time to reflect that what you (claimed to have) said isn’t all that terrible.

Hmm… this is a very tricky problem indeed. It’s a very personal problem, too, which means that advice might not even be relevant or accurate.

It’s down to the GL.

Your friends can try speaking to the GL, but they might risk being punished as well. Even if you feel you haven’t done anything wrong, you will have to apologise even if it’s just a “sorry” that you said something that apparently offended the GL.

As far as I’m aware, most guilds are perfectly happy recruiting someone that has been kicked from another guild. Even if this guild is a “network”, I’m willing to bet if you speak to another guild politely you’ll be let back in. Be open with what happened in the previous guild and be very careful with subject matter during your first few days.

Any mature, reasonable and sensible person will understand and give you a chance.

Perhaps after a bit of time spent under another guild in the network, they could refer you back to the original guild and speak to the original GL. You might then have a chance of being in the guild with your friends, then.

Another option is to party up with your friends as often as possible so they can communicate if there’s a guild event or something going on which you might be able to join in with.

Of course, all of this advice depends on how accurate your account of the story is (including the direct quotes). I hate to be devil’s advocate, but there have been similar threads made by others where the tale has been skewed (an “every coin has two sides” deal).

EDIT: Noticed that a lot of people have suggested that you make your own guild and then your friends can join you.
- To me, this seems kinda counter-productive. Surely as an RP-er you want to be in a community?
-You are also more likely to be given a second chance in the guild you were kicked from if you have been observed to have good behaviour/helpfulness in other well-know guilds.
-Personally, I think it is kinda unfair to try to pull your friends out of a guild that they obviously enjoy. (If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be there). You don’t want to create tension between you and your buddies!
-The friends still in the guild could still also be your ticket back in.

There are a few creatures around Tyria like this. They are just counted as scenery, it seems.

One other example that springs to mind is the “Dramatic Chipmunk/Prairie Dog”. From memory I think it’s in Queensdale.

Right now, the best you can do is ignore it (or follow Azure’s suggestions :P).

It’s likely to be only a temporary problem though. It’s the “new toy” phenomenon. Because it’s all sparkly and new, it’s hyped up and everybody wants to show it off. In a few weeks time, people will get bored of their look and wear something different (or the next “new toy”).

What I described happened with the Replica Job-o-tron. People complained (a lot) about them being everywhere and hearing “Turbo-mode-ENGAAAAAGE” all the time. Much fewer people wear them now, though

[Suggestion] UI for Dyeing accessories & hair

Being able to dye hair accessories in the normal hero UI is certainly a reasonable suggestion and has been mentioned over and over for a very long time. I would imagine it will be eventually implemented through a feature patch.

Your idea of being able to have multiple colours in pre-existing hair styles, however, I doubt will happen. In terms of programming, it would be very laborious to create a new UI, realistic dye regions etc on the pre-existing ones.

However! We already have a form of this in some of the asura hair styles. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Unique_hairstyle_8_female_asura_front.jpg for example). Here, the bluey-purple “high-light” part is controlled by the accessory dye area.

I could imagine A-net releasing new hair-styles for all races similar to these asuran ones- small highlights or dip-dye kind of styles. Of course, any hair-styles they make will probably look quite different to any of the existing ones for variety’s sake. New hairstyles will also stick to racial conventions/themes.

Lastly, on an important note, I doubt that hair-kits will become free, or a similar feature available in the Hero UI. These kits are a form of revenue for A-Net- people use real money to buy gems to purchase them. As a general business plan, you only put a lot of time and effort into things that are going to create revenue. Putting a lot of resources into something and then making it free bypasses any chance of profiting from the effort.

Why is silk going up in price?

I totally agree that the current cost of Damask is ludicrous compared to the cost of the other ascended materials.

However… How would you expect them to change the recipe to say, 50 bolts of silk? Sure, people complain about the current cost, but I’m sure that plenty more people would complain if all of their damask (and silk) that they currently own dropped in price.

People would be angry because they would say that they could’ve saved X amount of money if A-net had released plans before they started crafting damask for ascended gear.

Other people would complain because they would lose out on a lot of their profit that they would’ve got on selling their bulk of silk/damask.

And more people would complain that they would have to remove all of their damask from the TP and pay to re-list them.

I would totally be onboard for new hats. Lots of variety would be excellent

The thing is, helms that don’t completely cover your head will always have to hide your hair/make you go bald. By having the hair visible there will be clipping issues and flaws in some of the physics of the hair.

To make a helm that interracted with hair would be a very laborious task- every hair style would have to be edited to agree with the helm. In other words, the hours of effort wouldn’t be worth the potential profit they’d receive (through gem sales).

I noticed that the cost of Damask went up last week about 1g. This was before there was a massive spike in Silk prices (although it was slowly on its way up).

My reasoning for silk going up is because people notice the price of Damask and decide that they want to craft it to sell for profit.

So yes, it is supply and demand. Suddenly the demand for silk has gone up, so the price increases accordingly.

The thing is, I’ve noticed that generally, profit from making Damask (after buying all the materials) is pretty even no matter the cost of materials. Of course there was a brief period where Damask cost had increased whilst Silk hadn’t, but now it has balanced itself out.

New Black Feathered Wing Backpack!

They often release armour/weapon pieces to the preview wardrobe before adding them into the gemstore. (They did the same with Glint’s Gaze Mask… it was available the following week).

We shouldn’t have to wait too long. It makes me happy thinking that this backpiece was probably a remodel of the model used in the lich costume in GW1. So many people were complaining that the GW2 lich costume didn’t have these wings. Now we have out solution with a huge amount more application! I predict seeing winged characters everywhere within the next couple of weeks

Over the moon with the new dye changes I’ve been asking for a search bar in the dye pane for ages and my wish (and many other player’s) has been granted!

The locked, previewable dyes is also a brilliant logical step. Very pleased- well done A-net!

After skimming the thread, I’ve come to the conclusion that if I decide to open steam ogre’s room exactly 20-21 minutes before fire elemental, thus depriving azhure’s guild an ogre spawn in favor of generating one in time for the world train to arrive, I’m fully within my rights, I’m not trolling, and azhure can suck it up. Sound about right? Anyone see something wrong with that?

I don’t see anything wrong with that… The Ogre is there to be spawned and killed.

Besides, the OP has already said that he is one of the scouts for his guild’s world boss train. He has already said that he tries to find a map where Ogre isn’t on CD anyway.

@everyone else about the stupid QD champ train: There is a huge difference between someone killing a champ out of order on a map where the same champs spawn 5 minutes later and will be killed 100’s of times than there is when killing a champ that is basically part of the FE process and has been since the dawn of the game and won’t respawn until long after everyone is gone from the map. Stop making that silly comparison.

The comparison was made about the entitlement, not the kinds of champs or respawn rates. Besides, I’d actually argue that if a champ was killed in the QD train, it was more annoying because it would often upset the whole train. People ended up splitting up and the train would fall apart.

But either way, people are totally allowed to kill whatever creature they want to, with or without a zerg behind them. It all goes pretty well until bickering arises and A-net has to nerf things to improve the sense of community and the contents of map chat…

How is OP (and their guild) beholden to the rest of the map?

Because it’s an unwritten rule that all players know about and have the honor to abide by. Steam Ogre comes after the FE kill. It’s been that way since we first discovered the Steam Ogre. To alter that is akin to moving Christmas to January.

The same justification was used in the Queensdale train when people killed one of the champs out of sequence. People felt upset because they believed they were entitled to that boss if they belonged in a train that was made to kill it (along with other champs).

It’s pretty obvious that Arena-net dislike enemy/loot/event entitlement because of the nerfs to Queensdale and some of the other champ farms. Events are designed to be completed, but arguments arise when people feel that they (as some form of train) are more entitled to something compared to another player or two running around. These “unwritten rules” are not justified and are certainly not supported by A-net.

Sure, it’s nice if a lot of people can join in so they can receive the loot as it means more people can enjoy the rewards.

But on the same token, it’s not a tragedy or “ruining the game” if you miss out on it. The reason why the OP runs the Ogre with his guild is so that his guild (and other people in the map at the time) can receive the rewards. His guild wouldn’t be able to get the rewards otherwise due to his tight schedule.

At least he’s kind enough to announce it. This means that other people in the map still get to benefit from the event (who might have not gone to the Ogre otherwise). It also means that people will be less likely to waste their time trying to use their matrix key (and possibly miss the next boss/event) because it has been communicated (recently) that it will be on cool-down.

@Smooth Penguin…

You keep using the phrase “Ruining the game for others”. I think this phrase is a touch over-dramatic for losing out on one champ/champ-bag.

To me it just seems you’re jealous/upset/bitter that other people get a small reward whilst you do not.

Edit: Just to add, I’ve been at FE plenty of times whilst the matrix-key thing is on cool-down. Do I get bothered by it? Not really. I run to the centre, see if the wall is opened. If it isn’t, I move on to the next world boss.

Let’s add a little bit of perspective here:

-The ogre champ isn’t anything special. The average financial gain of completing the event is pretty low… a few silver isn’t anything to get upset about if you miss it.

-The Steam Ogre event and rewards are merely a bonus. The reason why you guys waypoint there is for the FE and the reasonable rewards you earn there. It’s not like you lose out on silver for waypointing there to discover the champ has already been killed. If the FE didn’t spawn there, I doubt people would WP to Thaumanova just to kill the Steam Ogre for a Champ Bag.

-Nobody is more (or less) entitled to a particular boss or enemy than another person. If you miss out on it, too bad… wait another 20 minutes and if a champ bag drop is really worth it for you, wait or waypoint back and complete it. (But perhaps it doesn’t fit in with your schedule? Well that’s the reason why the OP and his guild complete it early too :P)

-As far as I see it, the Steam Ogre event is working as intended. If A-net wanted a lot of people to benefit from its rewards, it would be a far more difficult encounter and it would scale up. Currently, it’s an easy kill with even a handful of people.

-Completing this event isn’t blocking progress for anybody. The only thing you might lose out on is upgrading your Chaos Orb for the Mawdrey Backpiece/Item. However, if you find out that there is a chance of Steam Ogre being killed before FE and you’re specifically trying to work towards Mawdrey, just get there a little earlier than usual just to be safe.

ascended weapons (ele) d/f or staff first?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Personally I would make the staff first- this gives you two slots for AR infusion straight away along with your higher stats and damage all round.

If you went for Weaponsmith first to make a dagger, you’d only get 1 AR infusion slot to start off with and then you’d have to really consider getting your Artificer up to 500 pretty soon as well.

By going for staff you can easily have +10AR to start off with. Later, you can then think about getting weaponsmith to 500 if you want to and make your dagger/focus if you prefer to play that way.
