I agree with the focus idea.

Small foci:
Bloodseeker
Glint’s Scale
Squeedily Spooch
Foulbear Lucky Feathers
Mojo
Malice

All of these are pretty tiny- paired with the right gloves/dye they can be barely visible at all.

Aura-like foci:
Flux Matrix
The Anomaly
Chimeric Prism (HoM Skin)

Not a fan of the creepy faces, but love how highly detailed they are and the quality of the textures.

Compare the sword/greatsword from this set to the Dragon’s Jade set- it becomes blindingly obvious how poor the textures are on the older sets. :/

Quaggan Water Park: The Dream

This idea could work, but has some fundamental problems.

With HoT we will be seeing mini-games and adventures with leaderboards. A shooting-range has already been mentioned by devs in one of the PoI episodes. There could be plenty of mini-games based on real-life carnival/theme-park games.

I think it would be more likely that this would be a human-run affair than quaggan, though. Humans are the ones that seem to run the most festivals, carnivals and circuses.

I don’t see the appeal of water-slides and wading pools. The novelty of watching your character go down a waterslide would wear off very quickly. It seems as though with your suggestion, the environment would be rich but the gameplay would be seriously lacking. Fine for RP-ers, but not much fun for people who don’t live vicariously through their characters.

Water-gun skins and a swimsuit outfit/transformation tonic would be pretty awesome. It would be nice for these items to be unlocked with some kind of scavenger hunt/award for completing the games, though, otherwise chances are they’ll just be gem-store items.

My final worry would be how this would tie in with the current story/living world. A-net can’t just slap in an amusement park without it perpetuating the story.

It could make sense if it was set up in the areas we explore in HoT- the locals could see that the area is getting a lot of new visitors and could take advantage of that.

[Suggestion] TP Filter by Skin Status

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

What about a different solution that doesn’t impact the TP as much?

How about having more filters on the wardrobe section of the bank?

-Filter by locked/unlocked
-Filter for gem-store skins
-Filter for BL ticket skins

This would mean you could quickly narrow down which skins you have/don’t have.

Considering some skins have a different name to the item that it originates from, perhaps there should be a mouse-over box which gives a list of items that the skin can be unlocked from.

Then you can simply find that item on the TP by typing it in.

Why does Anet assume only nordics have beer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

Also, Charr are roman, they should be bathing in ale and beer.

I think that in game it’s made clear that drinking beer is more cliché of the Norn than any other race though, it’s made a lot more prominent for some strange reason.

I break it down into this:

Norn care about their legacy- what other people think about them.

In order for their deeds to be heard about, they must boast to as many norn as they can.

They boast at a moot- a great gathering of other norn.

Feasting and gathering go hand-in-hand, as does alcohol and feasting (which is a tradition not exclusive to nordics.)

Why ale/beer of all possible alcoholic beverages? I’m sure it’s down to the climate of Hoelbrak and the Shiverpeaks and the types of fermentable plants that grow in the region… and this is where comparisons to the real-world could be made.

There’s a pretty decently large tavern/bar/thing in the Charr home instance, and there’s another in the Grove.

The only race that I don’t think has a ‘bar’ in it’s city is Rata Sum, and well… I can’t really see Asura’ drinking alcohol quite like the other races probably do.

Your post got me thinking about if I had seen an Asura drink (excessively). It brought me to the “Down the Hatch” personal story instance for Order of Whispers.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Down_the_Hatch

One of the skills given for the drinking game are “Drink. Take a swig of Ale”- so we know it’s ale, once again. Each enemy you have to challenge is from a different race, including an Asura called Kiplr The Tippler.

So now we know it’s not just purely about brewing or selling ale/beer, we also know that members of non-norn races also drink beer excessively.

EDIT:

You might as well say, “There’s no such thing as talking plant people! Haha, stupid Anet. Me: 4 Anet : 0”

There’s a brewery in the monastery in Queensdale. The brewery is run by a female human. One of the events is called “Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery’s ale (11)”, so it’s certainly beer/ale that is being brewed there.

There was a CDI about difficult content/raid content, so there is a chance we’ll see similar things with HoT.

Some people have speculated that we might be seeing Fissure of Woe in HoT, considering there’s a Balthazar temple buried deep within Maguuma along with other “cues” such as the Balthazar Outfit and Balthazar Weapon Skins which are both now available in GW1 and GW2.

On the other hand, the game is balanced for parties of 5. I don’t know if creating a dungon for more than 5 people is possible, unless the parties are kept separate for the majority of the mission (I think there was a couple of missions in GW1 Cantha which required two parties simultaneously).

I wouldn’t get your hopes up. I like to expect what we already know, and then get pleasantly surprised when I find out there’s more. That way I rarely get disappointed

[Suggestion] Enemy types & condition immunity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

I think most people have voiced the opinion I have: giving more condition immunities to enemies will hurt condi builds even more.

What about doing the opposite of what you suggest? What about certain foes being more vulnerable to particular conditions? This would bring more power to condi builds (which are somewhat lacking in PvE) AND add the flavour/realism you want.

I’d also like to see more enemies with the “tough bark”, where the best way to deal with them is through conditions rather than flat out power.

Why can't you farm materials?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Well, you’re in luck.

A-net have mentioned that they’re adding a reward system (similar to Dry Top and Silverwastes) where you get a bonus for completing events. From what I understood, different maps will present different materials. This means you get guaranteed T6 when completing events, making these materials somewhat farmable.

We’ve yet to find out how much of a bonus you get from completing these events (you might only get 1 T6 for each event, for instance) and what kind of impact this will have on T6 economy.

EDIT: I’m not sure if this change will be made before HoT in a suspected Feature Pack, or if this will be added with HoT.

EDIT 2: There are other ways of getting T6- I got a lot from mystic forging ectos for mystic clovers. Ectos are farmable by doing the World Boss Train. You can also convert laurels to materials by buying material bags.

It honestly depends on my mood and what the content of the thread is. I think, on the whole, I’m a mixture of your “Healer” and “Utility”.

I like to try to keep an open mind, but I will still try to bring fact, reason and a realistic view to the table. Sometimes I wonder if people see me as a bit of a party-pooper considering I’m usually the kind of person to say “this isn’t likely going to happen” to the dreamers and what-if-ers.

I’m also an avid “report” button here. I don’t like to see threads/the forum in general get out of hand or off-topic… I like to see a good discussion continue, but to be put to rest when it’s no longer constructive. I believe that the cleaner a forum is, the more valuable it is.

If somebody begins to bother me, I usually just walk away from the discussion and normally somebody else jumps in to “Tank”, but I will quite happily jump in and support somebody else if I feel like my input would be valued. (Wait… isn’t what what they call “Forum White-Knighting”? :P)

Update on 500 crafting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

@ Gobble: Those two are pretty good ideas, especially if we could get a greater range of ascended stat combos. Is it that currently there are only 2 assassins’ stat accessories available, both from dungeon collection achievements? (I also like mtpelion’s idea)

The only problem with it is that it could result in another tier of ascended trinkets, where ones available from vendors are “worthless” because they’re not BiS anymore. I guess the trick around this would be for A-net to carefully balance the cost of getting to 500 and crafting them, with respect to purchasable trinkets… but when it comes to balancing cost, I honestly don’t have too much faith in A-net. :P

Ascended - a different way.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crimson Clouds.4853

Buffing exotic gear would be terrible and would require a whole rebalance of the game, considering the game is balanced for exotic level gear.

It would also leave a sour taste in many players’ mouths- ascended armour is not cheap to get and nerfing the stat boost it has (in respect to exotic) would result in discord/angry players to the point where it could harm their business.

However, I agree that ascended gear was a bad move, on the whole. It should’ve been cheaper to make than it currently is and had the same stats as exotic gear, but with the bonus of infusion slots. But at the time, A-net probably needed to add a gold-sink and some long-term goals for players who are hungry for more.

Some of the bonuses you suggested to replace stat boost would still cause the same problem as there is currently, and in most cases wouldn’t pacify the upset players who made their gear for the stat boost.

Tl;dr: changing the way an item works, especially an item of significant value, will cause a heapload of upset. Hindight’s a witch.

Update on 500 crafting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Personally I’m not sure we’ll ever get 500 Jewelcrafting and Cooking.

Firstly, we already have guaranteed ways of obtaining ascended rings, accessories and amulets- we can purchase them with laurels/laurels+badges of honour or purchase them with guild commendations. If getting to JC 500/crafting ascended trinkets is too costly, very few people would bother doing it as laurels are very easy to obtain. It would be done just for the AP bonus, or to avoid spending laurels…. but would we not have to buy the ascended recipes with laurels anyway?

It would sure make sense though, considering crystalline ingots/xunlai electrum ingots have a space in the material collection tab. These seem to fit JC best, but personally I believe these materials could be a part of legendary crafting.

As for 500 chef… I really don’t know. We currently don’t have any ascended materials to cook with. Chef is very different structurally to all of the other crafting professions which certainly doesn’t make ascended food/500 chef an obvious choice.

As for bothering with getting 400 chef/JC… they are certainly not the most useful crafting professions, but I have used mine a few times. I’ve needed both to craft Mawdrey, for instance, and I imagine there will be more Mawdrey-like items released in the future. There is the occasional thing that might be cheaper to craft than to buy from the TP. Also, as a completionist and AP hunter, getting these two crafting profesions to 400 was a no-brainer.

Charr need a rework !

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

I recall the same topic being debated a few months ago, a fellow forum-goer posted something along the lines of this:

Charr, due to being quadrapedal creatures (for the most part) have their spines joined to the backs of their skulls so they can see directly forward when running. This means when they stand up on two legs, they have to hunch over and curve their necks in order to still see straight forward.

Bipedal creatures have their spines join to the base (underneath) of their skulls. Try sitting/standing on all fours and look straight forward- it strains your neck somewhat and is pretty uncomfortable.

This is the reason why charr are hunched over when standing- it is more “natural” this way.

I agree though- I really liked the “uprightness” of gw1 charr- it meant that it could really show off their body shape and armour. However, I like how charr isn’t just another bipedal “humanoid” race in GW2. Running on all fours and being hunched over adds to the feel of their race- they definitely seem more “animal” than human and I like that.

Monk Profession

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

From what I understand, Revenant is the last profession to be added. They will be adding new specialisations in the future though, so it could be possible that we’ll see some “monk-like” aspects in a future specialisation.

I doubt we’ll ever see a class that fights with open hands/fists. We require weapons for their stat benefit and sigils and I doubt they’ll introduce something like brass knuckles as a weapon (for many different reasons).

It could be possible for a future specialisation to be given dagger (or mace) mainhand+offhand and have animations that look like close-combat fighting and with close-combat style names. Use weapons with small skins and it will look more convincing.

Oh- also, it seems like we’ll be getting bo-staff melee style combat with Revenant, so there’s that to look forward to.

[Suggestion]No armor restrictions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Different armour weights give different levels of defence.

As for letting this happen so that all weights can be mixed, A-net have already said that they do not have the technology/ability to make this happen.

Here’s a quote from another thread explaining why inter-weight mixing will not happen:

The reason it won’t happen is because armor for different weights splits differently. For light and heavy, it splits entirely at the waist; any long coats or dresses have the bottom half of the coat or dress as part of the “pants.” However, on medium armor, legs are separate and long coats and skirts are a part of the top, with legs worn under them. This is also why you won’t see medium armor skins being given to light and heavy classes, or light/heavy armor being given to medium professions.

The amount of clipping on certain professions, depending on how they split it up, would be egregious. Split an outfit like light/heavy, and medium coats will clip outrageously with the bottom half of the outfit. Split it like medium armor, and light/heavy bottoms will clip. People would buy the skins and then be absolutely outraged at the amount of clipping.

So yes, clipping is the reason, but it would be far worse than current armors ever clip, and that is why they won’t do it.

Gem Outfits vs Gem Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

Well, applying what qarinus has said, it could mean that an outfit piece would clip with almost every armour piece. You seem to be complaining about clipping already being a problem- why are you suggesting that there will be more? It’d be very disappointing receiving an outfit as armour skins and not being able to match them because they clip terribly with everything you like.

From what I understand, it’s a bad move (developmentally) to release something that is inherently broken because it would lower the standards of the product AND mean that the company is forced to take time to fix it in the future. A-net already have a very long list of things that need to be fixed… how about they fix the current clipping issues before adding a great deal more into the game?

Gem Outfits vs Gem Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

@Crimson Clouds: The current armors aren’t tested for clipping either. That point is als invalid as it’s old.

How can you be sure that they haven’t designed the armour to minimalise clipping as much as possible whilst retaining the armour’s design?

Either way, there are parts on some of the outfits that would make them difficult to be separated. For instance, on the female shadow assassin’s outfit, the bow on the back is both part of the chest and legs. Cut the outfit into parts and you’d have parts of floating rope sticking out… unless they took a lot of time to careful remove the bow or make sure it belongs to one and not the other. (Edit: pretty sure this is why butt-capes exist, to prevent this problem from happening).

So the point still stands: why spend a lot of time and money to retroactively change a product that already sells well? I’m sure they have a lot of data from the gemstore- surely if it was a cash-cow waiting to be pursued, they’d have already done it by now.

Gem Outfits vs Gem Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crimson Clouds.4853

Crimson Clouds.4853

This has been suggested before.

It will be very unlikely to happen as outfits are continuous models (apart from the head) and aren’t already split into boots, legs, gloves, chest and shoulders.

For them to implement this idea, a huge amount of work would have to be done to “fix” what has already been released and sold. A lot of these armour pieces that came from outfits would have a lot of terrible clipping issues with pre-existing armour as they were never designed to be mixed and matched.

So then, to keep to this system, all future outfits would have to be tested for clipping. This means more resources, so it would probably mean outfits would end up costing more in the gemstore. It would also mean that designers would be less free to make outfits that have special features that don’t fit normal armour conventions.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love for this to happen. There are so many awesome and unique parts on outfits that would be great to mix and match… and that’s exactly why they’re in an outfit.

You do realize that Engineer do not get weaponswapping because they have the option of picking Kits, right?
So if Tomes would work like kits you can kiss your weaponswap goodbye as well.

This analogy really doesn’t work in this sense because tomes have a massive cool down, just like elementalist conjured weapons. They should function like conjured weapons too, where you still retain the right-hand side of your skillbar.

The reason why (or vice versa) that engis don’t have weaponswap is because their kits have next to no cool down.

I’ve only been hit with the “Your Message Was Suppressed” thing a couple of times- only when advertising for a party in say chat “lfm 2/5” or whatever. I hold conversations in chat often, but have never had a problem there.

I don’t think that there should be any reduction in how much it takes for the suppression to kick in. Think how much chat wouldn’t be suppressed with a more lenient filter- it could make it more difficult to chat.

If you’re getting hit with the “excessive messaging” thing too often, change how you type. I tend to type in long full sentences instead of many short fragments, so perhaps that’s how I avoid it and how many of you get hit by it. I understand that this is difficult when commanding, but I know that a lot of commanders use TS and have a buddy type out stuff in chat and are able to take a little more time over it.

It’s easy to say considering I don’t get hit by it often, but I don’t see a problem with the filter. I find seeing repeated short fragments of sentences annoying anyway as it clogs up chat fast, I don’t want a more lenient chat filter because I don’t want to see more of it than I have to-

There was a post a while back with a load of links from devs saying that race reroll won’t really happen.. does some digging. Found it:

ANet so far has said no.

Race changes:
1) I am afraid that the team does contemplate different possibilities and new features for the future but this one is not among those. Source
2) There are a lot of far-reaching consequences of allowing one character to play through every race’s personal story or equip any cultural armor/weapons. For now, we feel that it would take away from the experience of Guild Wars 2 for the majority of players. Source
3) Thanks for asking. To change the race in the Gem store will not be an option in Guild Wars 2. Source

What Gobble D Goop said.

You can easily get tomes of knowledge from playing PvP through the PvP rewards and you can also get them just from logging in. You can get up to 16 tomes of knowledge from log-in rewards in 28 days. So, in theory, you could get a character from 1-80 in 20 weeks without even really touching it.

I doubt very much that Arena-net will give you a level 80 just because you want it. They also don’t recover characters that are deleted unless it is because of account hacking.

Also, you don’t need a 7th level 80. If you can’t be bothered to level a character, don’t.

Don’t know the exact figures for my MF, but I’m pretty sure my account MF is nearing 200%, which I have obtained without aiming for it. I salvage all of my fine and masterwork items and the occassional rare/exotic if it isn’t profitable for me to sell.

You’d have to buy and salvage a lot of ectoplasm if you wanted to increase your MF by that much. Sure, you could get some money back by selling the T6 dust, but when it comes down to it… it really isn’t worth it. I’m willing to bet that you wouldn’t make your money back on the investment through drops (in the amount of time it would’ve taken you to “naturally” reach the level of mf you want).

If you want that amount of magic find in a pinch, it would be cheaper to:
-Make sure you’re in a guild with constant guild buffs (and banners)
-Use MF food- there’s a comprehensive list available on the wiki.
-Purchase an ascended amulet with stats that are useful for you for multiple characters. Buy a +MF% infusion for it. You can get these at laurel vendors and I think it’s cheaper in WvW as some of the cost in laurels is substituted for Badges of Honor.
-Use birthday boosters (24h 100%mf buff awarded to characters for each birthday). Celebration boosters also give the same effect for 1h and can be obtained through log-in rewards.
-Use MF boosters (50%) for special occassions. These last for an hour and are either available as a consumable or from the Communal Boost Bonfires. I have converted many of my other boosters into MF boosters by using Enchantment Powders.

Crimson Clouds.4853

This has been suggested many times before.

I’d personally support this idea because it would mean that I wouldn’t have to keep swapping around my infinite tools.

However, I doubt it will ever happen because A-net is happily raking in a load of money from people buying multiple infinite tools for their characters. Moreover, a lot of “loyal customers” (those who have bought multiple copies of the tools) will be left with a sour taste in their mouth.

As for account-wide bags/bag slots, use/functionality of Bank Express (and purchase of them) get undermined.

As for account-bound map completion, first I don’t think that this is actually possible to do with the current game as map completion is “hard coded” to a character. once again, a lot of loyal players (those who have done map completion multiple times) will be left with a sour taste in their mouth. It would also become very confusing in terms of exp points, and when the update comes out, Hero Points too.

If it’s any help, there are “Teleport to friend” items that drop from BL Chests which can be useful- get a friend to run a long way from anywhere you’ve been and use the item.

It could be similar to GW1 where there were bonus weekends for certain parts of the game. If you played in these areas you would get better rewards/more tokens/more points for your titles. It was a great way to direct the community together- areas of the game that were empty would fill up again.

This could be similarly implemented in GW2- more tokens (badges of honor, dungeon tokens/fractal relics, geodes/bandit crests), better rewards, perhaps some AP for participating in the activity or even a seperate “event daily” for bonus AP + Laurels.

Very impressed with the amount of work that this must’ve taken and also the amount of knowledge/research required too.

I’d love some more cultural armour. I think a lot of players struggle especially when trying to dress up their sylvari characters as this race looks most out of place in regular non-race-specific armour.

It would be great to see some of these available in HoT along with some of the previously available armours such as Tribal armour.

As you’ve said, the work is already done- they just need to add some vendors for it

It actually took me two looks at the screenshot supplied to see the very faint line… even though it’s circled with a bold red line.

It would be nice if it wasn’t there, but in the great scheme of things, this is such a tiny graphical issue.

Is your character high enough crafting level to craft the item?

Policy on the LFG Tool

I agree, Hidori- selling/trading anything on the LFG should be considered LFG abuse. The amount of spam in “Open World” is mainly because of people trying to sell things.

Another problem I see relatively frequently is “P1 exp” or things like that in Open World. It bothers me because nobody is going to know which dungeon they are doing and it would probably take longer for them to fill their party because of that. I don’t feel like reporting them because chances are it’s just an honest mistake… but could it be considered as LFG abuse?

It would be nice to have a tab in the LFG for people recruiting or looking for a guild. It could divert a lot of the guild recruitment away from map chat.

Criticism locked without response or reason?

A lot of the criticism threads end up derailing or become toxic.

Another common problem is that such threads end up repeating themselves. They get nowhere so aren’t constructive.

A lot of the threads become hard to follow as well- often arguments form between particular participants whilst others try to talk about a different point.

In the end, there is no real advantage to keep a thread like that open.

Ascended gear vendor value...

I think it’s one of those things- A-net never expected there being people who wanted to merch their BiS gear, so didn’t balance price according to how much it would cost to make.

We need another option to get ascended gear.

They could drop for you in a fractal, Teq/Tri Wurm chest. You can also obtain them from WvW Rank Up chests and some Champ Bags/Boxes.

You can also obtain a couple of ascended armour chests from achievements such as Ambrite Weapon Collector and the Luminescent Armour collection absolutely guaranteed with a full choice of stats/pieces/weights.

That’s 6/7 ways of getting it other than crafting, which is pretty reasonable considering ascended gear is only required for a tiny portion of the game.

@Zietlogik- I think Matazeruz was trolling, considering Bearbow is possibly the trolliest of builds in game. :P

Rod- Elementalists need to switch attunements to be really effective. A lot of builds require skill sequences and timing (similar to some Engi builds too). A lot of blasting aoes and other things play a role too.

Outfits vs armor skin sets

I could be wrong, but I havn’t seen a new armor SET in over a year. Why is that Anet, is it less of a effort to create a outfit instead of a set?

And outfits cost as many gems as a armor set but you cant mix and match.

You are wrong- they released carapace AND luminescent armour with the Silverwastes Patch (which was just before christmas, I believe). Even better than gemstore armour skins, they can be obtained in game.

Outfits cost 100 gems less than an armour set and you can use an outfit on any armour weight.

I’m not a PvP/WvW expert, but look up Thief Roaming on Youtube. Roaming thieves can be deadly and very difficult to counter. They can easily pick of targets in a small group and demolish a small group entirely.

“Exploding” 10 people in 1 minute? Unlikely to happen unless you’re against a lot of very clueless squishies. Everybody has access to heals and defences along with CC.
