Your suggestion to me sounds very much like WvW. It seems as though the desert borderlands seem to have a more environmental aspect to it than the alpine borderlands.
Any PvP aspect is unlikely to be added into the PvE side of the game, but perhaps we’ll see new WvW maps that have a strong environmental meta that must be worked towards as the enemy does the same/opposite meta. In fact, I believe there was a datamined WvW map from some old .dat that WoodenPotatoes did a Tyria 3D video of. It got scrapped some time ago, but maybe we’ll see a future version of it.
(this might be the video, but I seem to remember it slightly differently, so perhaps there’s another)
The Daydreamer’s outfit (and backpiece and weapons) is supposedly the Melandru set.
If you do a bit of googling, you’ll find the Facebook post made by A-net when releasing the Daydreamer’s set:
“In the forest, the whisper of light wings, glowing and rustling. Some men say they have met with Melandru herself. Others swear they were priestesses of the Goddess. In truth, we might very well never know! Yet, these stories sparked our imagination and inspired us to design this item: We tried to recreate what they claimed to have seen. Here it is, the result of our researches: We are happy to present you what we like to call the Daydreamer’s Wings!”
https://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2/posts/10153055381519209
There has also been a datamined outfit called “Nature’s Oath” which could be interpreted as a Melandru-style outfit. http://dulfy.net/2016/01/12/gw2-upcoming-items-from-jan-12-patch/
This has been suggested before a few times and the thread has always gone the same way.
I agree that it is unnecessary and will be used for griefing. The idea is nice, but because there is no certainty that the person will be able to res you (or will choose to) it serves very little benefit over the current system.
A few examples:
Problem: You are dead somewhere, far away from the nearest waypoint and really don’t want to waypoint.
Response: Ask kindly in say chat if anybody could provide a res. Failing that, ask in map chat and ping a location, or wait a few minutes and see if anybody walks close enough for you to whisper or use say chat again.
Advantages/Disadvantages of the suggestion: Here it would be useful- especially if the downed player is not comfortable using chats to ask for help.
Problem: You have died somewhere but it’s not a big deal because the waypoint is only half a minutes’ run away.
Response: Waypoint straight away, unless there is a player very close by and is obviously running towards you. It’s often faster to run in circumstances like this.
Advantages/Disadvantages of the suggestion: Maybe every so often it will save you a couple of seconds, but likely a downed player will feel forced to not waypoint, even if it is faster just to do so.
Think how this would impact events like Tequatl, where dead players are required to waypoint, otherwise risk failing the event. People have to be pushed to waypoint (because they don’t want to run), and getting notified that a person is coming to res them is just another reason to stay on the ground. One person could, theoretically, singlehandedly get the event to fail by falsely “help-buttoning” dead players.
Conclusion/tl;dr: I feel that this button is more to benefit the helper than the person needing help. I can almost assure you that the player running towards the dead player is more disheartened when the dead player waypoints, than the dead player is to have to waypoint. And then it has a strong application to be used by trolls.
A Cthulhu derivative might be copyright protected. I think also it is expected to begin with “S” based on clues in LS2/ Also the Sclerite weapons might be a clue
I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure that the Sclerite weapons are named as such because they have those creepy blinky eyes on them. The Sclera is the medical term for the white part of the eye. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sclera
That being said, perhaps the sea dragon is a weird eyeball-y freak.
But I do quite like “Selbbub”.
I hope that A-net add some of this crazy fan theory into the game when Steve McBubbles appears.
BECAUSE I GET IT…once you GET the game, it’s no longer fun.
That was my point.
Sounds like it’s time to move on then, not sure why you’re posting this on here except to stir an argument.
It’s perfectly okay to fall out of love with a game once you ‘get it’, there are many others for you to ‘get’.
This, absolutely.
Also, just because the game isn’t interesting to you, it doesn’t make it intrinsicly a bad game.
There was a similar thread a while back. The OP made similar points in that he was bored of the game, but also made similar mistakes when it came to base-knowledge of the game. This game requires a bit of learning. If something is frustrating you, it’s probably because there’s another (better) way of doing it. MMO’s almost always require a bit of research for the most efficient gameplay, but it’s ok to not like having to tab out to learn about the game.
The other thing is yes, in my opinion you do come off as sounding negative (and there are plenty of fairly objective examples to summarise this notion, as previously quoted by Fleshy, I think). Maybe you don’t sound negative to you, and I understand that (It can be difficult to read tone on the internet).
It’s always worth considering that people on this thread have spent their own time trying to help you, and if they’re met with a sense of apathy or ungratefulness they’re going to be a bit annoyed. Most people here relish the community support and at least come off as thankful just for a direct response, even if they don’t necessarily agree.
What Flesh says sums it up pretty nicely.
It’s not going to affect people outside your guild, really. For it to do that, the drama has to be pretty severe, i.e. its effects spread to other guilds/guilds in the alliance and the home server (thus WvW) or large organised communities. I do know of an instance where guild drama was bad enough to do such (and it was regarding the largest and very well known guild on a server), so it wasn’t just some guy harassing and badmouthing a guild in public chat.
Chances are it will have very little impact on your guild regarding recruiting. The real threat is likely going to be any related turmoil within your guild, so perhaps it would be more suited to focus efforts there than broadcasting your guild drama to the forums?
That doesn’t make what you might have to be dealing with less troublesome for you. But like I said, if the guy is genuinely harassing you (and it’s clearly a one-sided attack from an objective standpoint), then you should contact CS or report him in-game.
Regarding what you’ve mentioned about this player’s actions, I would recommend writing a ticket to CS.
CS don’t usually step in regarding guild drama, but if this guy is actively and currently causing distress, unwanted attention or harassing your guild, then things could be taken further.
I would urge you to consider it, especially if this guy continues his antics for a while. I’d also suggest that you tell your guildies to not communicate or engage with this guy under any circumstance, and that if he does bad-mouth your guild or specific members in public chat, to take screenshots and report him. If members are really having big issues with him, tell them to block him.
Collect the screenshots and send them to CS, if it helps to move the case along.
I would imagine that he will just be warned (at least to start off) with a “cease and desist” sort of thing. CS probably won’t ever find out objectively what happened to trigger his outbursts, and if it’s a “6 of one, half a dozen of the other” sort of thing (and that it is possible that the guild provoked this reaction). If he continues after that, then maybe he’ll get a suspension or ban.
Things to consider:
-Birthday gifts. Depending on how old your character is, it might be worth keeping for the birthday gift. Personally I wouldn’t worry too much if the character is less than 2 years old. Certainly the best/most expensive gift so far has been the 3rd birthday gift.
-Buying another character slot for 800 gems. Up to you, if you’re finding it difficult to part ways with your asura. There’s nothing bad with having two eles total, they could run very different builds. Even if you only play 1 character at a time, you could leave any alts at JP chests or rich resource nodes/node farms to earn a bit of gold each day.
-Consider a total makeover kit and make your character as large as possible. I have noticed that small and slender asura are very difficult to see. Large asura can be pretty big in the great scheme of things. Paired with bold armour/dyes, you become quite noticeble. If you don’t have a makeover kit available, they can be bough off of the gem-store, or you are guaranteed one at every 5k AP chest.
Hmm… personally, I would buy a new character slot, roll a human ele and try it out. Reinvision it as your main. If you are happy, excellent, you can delete your asura and use the slot for something else. If you aren’t, well at least you didn’t delete your main with 100% world completion. Having a 100% world completion character still available as you level your human main might be a good idea too, as it is convenient to have a character that has been everywhere (e.g. for achievements, karma vendors, guild missions etc).
I wouldn’t call it Pay2Win, I would say Pay4Convenience because I’m too lazy to waypoint to a repair agent after dying and too lazy to run back.
I agree.
Pay2Win model requires you to part with cash in order to play the game to the full extent and to reach a BiS end-goal. It results in paying players being more favourable than non-paying players, in a party system. (For example, imagine if you were doing a raid or dungeon, in a P2W system you’ll be choosing players with paid pets/better pets, paid skills and other advantages over somebody who doesn’t have these things).
Pay4Convenience doesn’t force you to part with cash in order to have the best skills, gear etc in-game. The convenience doesn’t offer you any significant end-goal advantage over non-paying players, just things that improve quality of life… mainly just reducing the amount of clicks and waiting you have to do, when you think about it.
GW2 is actually pretty low on the P4C scale in my opinion. Firstly, a lot of the convenience items can be obtained in-game without even setting foot in the gem-store. I’m loaded with repair cannisters, revive orbs, merchant/bank/TP expresses up to my armpits, and have never actively purchased one. Moreover, there is a very hazy boundary between paying players and non-paying players because of the gold-to-gem exchange. Gems are also given to players in some of the AP chests.
I did read about a player who levelled up a character without killing anything at all, as part of the character he was roleplaying. Many tasks and events have non-killing aspects to them, so those, along with gathering and exploring, was how this guy levelled.
I guess your journey will be somewhat similar- good luck and have fun!
Seasons greetings!
You have said a lot in a few lines, so I’ll deconstruct it a bit:
“The maps seemed mostly empty”: The HoT maps consist of a series of event chains that determine the overall reward and outcome of the map. In order for the best rewards, everything must be completed (and as efficiently as possible). This means organised maps “taxi” people in from non-organised maps. This results in a few densely populated maps, but a lot of empty maps. If you’re on a quiet map, try looking on the LFG for a taxi.
“I’m not able to complete the events”: The maps are designed for group play, so you’ll have a tough time doing stuff solo. Even some of the map completion aspects (hero points) require a couple of people or more to help you. This isn’t a problem though- announce in map chat and there’ll be plenty of people who are happy to help.
“… or where to go to solo”: Same as above really. That being said, it certainly is possible to solo stuff. It just requires the right build, gear and a bit of knowledge regarding defensive play. It depends on your playstyle, ultimately. I usually recommend that if you’re feeling squishy, buy some tanky/defensive stat trinkets and see if that helps. Maybe going ranged will be better. That all being said, I actually felt more squishy on my PTV warrior than full zerk, simply because I was able to kill stuff faster and thus not lose as much health. Like I said, depends on what you are comfortable with.
If you’re not too set on solo play, I’d suggest joining a guild and finding a friend to run around with on your adventures.
It’s called “Assaulter’s Spirit Ward” and is a reward from one of the raid bosses.
When the few taking offense force the many to change the way they’re doing then we’ll have witnessed the death of democracy ( not that democracy was all that good).
I honestly am surprised as to how far some people take offense with stuff – I get that some might not have had the best experience with this but this isn’t really the place for people to take offense.
I totally agree.
I don’t totally understand why people take offence where offence is not at all intended. Is it because they sense some sort of injustice? Is it because of incorrect portrayal?
I guess I could understand if the reasons weren’t purely personal. For example, if a large group of people were misrepresented in a way that appears to lessen them, because it has repurcussions outside of itself.
So… is it that people who are bothered by this see alcohol as the bad guy? Maybe it’s a matter of perspective, but I’ve never seen it in that way, even with alcoholics in my family and a family member who almost killed several people (including myself) in a drink-drive accident. To me it’s the person that’s at fault, and that is ok. Humans are allowed to make mistakes.
I guess in a perfect world (for me), alcohol wouldn’t exist or be represented anywhere. Considering that will never be the case, I don’t think removing it from a video game is going to make anybody’s life easier to live, and the novelty behind it seems to be ok and lighthearted.
An integral part of their business plan? Who told you this rubbish? Go and do your research.
It makes a once good game appear cheap and desperate.
I’m not sure if GW2 can even survive without the cashshop.
But even if it can, the profit is so small, Anet will either have to cutdown employee or it is quite likely NCSoft will close Anet, or Anet will have to spam us with 20$ small size DLC.
If GW1 can survive so can GW2. They should just push up the price of the original one-time-purchase game.
I don’t really understand your argument.
If it was better for the company profits, don’t you think the finance/economics team would have pushed for what you have suggested?
How is not having a cash-shop better, overall, apart from that it being there affects your sensibilites in some way? What are the real objective advantages of not having a cash-shop and the disadvantages of having one?
Why does it bother you so much? The items in there are cosmetic or convenience items (which don’t result in you being able to win the game). Similarly, being able to buy gold with RL money happens in any MMO, just the way that A-net does it means that it’s far more protected and safer/balanced for the entire game. Having more gold in-game is just like having more money in real life- it makes things a bit smoother, but it doesn’t necessarily make you a happier person.
1) Make sure you have great reference photos. You’ll need at least ne picture of a front view and a side view, but other views (e.g. 3/4 view) may be helpful
2) Pick a face that looks as close as possible. For a lot of “famous” NPCs, there won’t be the exact same face, but there usually is something close, or bears a vague resemblance.
3) Start fiddling with the sliders. Try focusing on one thing at a time. Remember that it’s not necessarily the details of a face that makes it look similar, but actually the distances between them. Refer to the pictures as often as you can. You can even try measuring parts of the face if you find it helpful. Having a splitscreen of the reference and your character creation screen will be very useful.
4) If you can’t make a close approximation to the face, consider using an armour piece that hides or obscures it. I saw a fantastic Rytlock the other day, who was using a blindfold in order to hide the face.
Oh yes, I forgot to add… the most popular race for your first character is human. I also think that many people main their first character they make (as they often have a special place in their heart).
Just another factor to add in favour of the human female zerg.
Human: most easy to relate to, considering I’m sure almost all of us are human in real life
Female: because a large portion of the player base is straight and male, and there’s a thing where guys prefer to play as females. I’m not entirely sure why (apart from feeling more comfortable with staring at the opposite sex), but I am sure that there are a ton of articles online writing about it.
I think that the human race is a go-to first character in most games, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the lore. Humans are usually portrayed in the same way across games. If you’re a new player, you might not want to pick an unfamiliar race for the chance of giving it a name and identity that is totally non-cannon.
Most RPG/MMO regulars will know that almost always, females have better armour design and variety.
Tl;dr: It’s a safe option. There’s not much to go wrong with a human female.
I guess what I’m going to say here has already been covered, but I’ll comment anyway to show my support.
GW1 had a cash-shop too. In fact, it was even more exclusive than the gem-store because you could only by with real money. At least there is a gold to gem exchange, which is absolutely brilliant. I can’t think of any other game that does this to this extent.
It is not pay to win. The items you buy are convenience items or cosmetic items. People buy stuff because they like them, or to show their support.
It is an integral part to their business plan. It means they still get a healthy sum of money during the quiet periods between releases. I’m not an expert on the matter, but I assume that one of the reasons why we get more free content in GW2 (compared to GW1) is because how well the gem-store works.
It doesn’t hurt anybody. In fact, to some extent, it actually benefits players and accounts as fewer people will be using the illegal/dangerous gold selling sites and will use money to buy gems and convert to gold instead. Many RMT sites hack people’s accounts, steal their gold and sell what they get.
I think you should read up on the matter before jumping to conclusions or getting angry about it. If you’re still bothered by it.. well… ok then :P
Like what’s already been said:
Concept art almost always looks better than what you get in-game. It’s an artist’s impression of the real thing. It’s slightly stylised, exaggerates detail (to make modelling it easier, I guess) and they always pick fantastic colour combinations because they are artists.
The winged armour set, for example. The concept art is beautiful. The male set uses a dark colour on the background, to offset the pale grey throughout. If a lighter colour was used, everything would look washed out. The blue and gold work wonderfully together. Imo the in-game version made a mistake of sticking to two colours and using two very bright colours instead of a strong one and a muted one.
It’s also going to depend on your computer’s capabilites. I’m not entirely sure what graphic settings you have/the in-game screenshots use, but in my opinion the largest drawback the appearance has is the poor anti-aliasing that there is. The lines aren’t fluid for the nightmare court one, which ruins the feel a bit.
The only realistic improvement I would ask for is for them to include the face-shadow under the hood on the winged set. We see the face-shadow elsewhere on other helms (T3 norn heavy, off the top of my head) and it makes a massive difference).
As for reasonable advice, to get a similar look to the concept art:
-Learn colour theory. What compliments? What contrasts? What would be good as an accent colour?
-Use the exclusive dyes. They have more depth to them and pick up details a lot better than regular dyes. I guess it’s something to do with the amount of layers/colour of the layers that the dye has.
-Consider the form of your character and the overall look you’re going for. You might not want a broad and hulking character if you’re using an elegant, shapely armour set. (Or vice versa).
I also have several relatives that have had serious health issues with alcoholism.
I hope your post isn’t a troll post OP, because in a way I think that would be far worse than some light-hearted cider-swigging in-game. But if you’re serious, I can totally acknowledge that you have been hurt in some way by alcoholism.
I agree with what Wanze said- if you think that alcohol is a bit of a raw spot for you, make sure that you check ESRB/PEGI ratings and avoid anything that contains it. If the warnings are there, it’s your responsibility to read them and censor yourself from such things. Scroll to the very bottom of this page and the warnings will even be there: “TEEN: Blood, Mild Language, Use of Alcohol, Violence”
For most people, alcohol is a fairly innocuous substance that just makes things a little more merry. The Festive Imbiber and Connoisseur of Confectionary titles are a little nod to the incredibly excessive alcohol, party-items and sweet titles in GW1. Binge drinking in-game is not harmful in itself- kids aren’t going to play the game and then think that’s it’s ok/normal to drink 10k beers.
Tl;dr: You cannot blame A-net for including a “hot-topic” that they have advertised/warned about. It would be like somebody with a peanut allergy complaining to a company that they had a reaction to their peanut butter, no?
It definitely depends on the capabilites of your computer and internet.
I usually play on a pc with 50+ fps and about 50-70 ping. On that I hit the notes just before they touch the line.
Now… on a laptop using lowest settings I have 70 fps and 0 ping (apparently) I have to hit the notes almost as they touch me… at last well after they have passed the white line.
It’s going to be a bit of trial and error. If you can, I’d suggest trying to base it off of the sound/timing of the music.
EDIT: Oh, make sure your camera is directly above your head, facing down. It makes it a lot easier that way.
Naming and shaming isn’t allowed here. I would recommend removing your “Name and shame list” before a mod does it for you
It’s a lot easier to follow a tag around than to use your own autonomy.
Tags on a map help to push the meta event because it shows what type of population is on the map:
-If there are tags present it indicates that there is at least some “base” population to the map
-If a commander is tagged up, it is likely that they have a small group of players with them (if not, usually they would tag down after a few minutes)
-Players who are tagged up usually understand the mechanics very well, so are thus are happy to take the lead to explain what’s going on.
-As soon as there are tags on the map, people can use the “organised map” selling point when taxi-ing people in. It automatically makes a map more enticing. People will often move from a map with no commanders to a map with commanders.
It’s not necessarily about the commander’s skill. It’s more of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
What Danikat said.
Also, A-net have said that different armour weights (including outfits) have different meshes (?) or something, which results in them being impossible to mix-and-match because of the way that the game is coded.
@OP: Your suggestion has been made many times before. It’s a popular one. I’d recommend asking for more variety of armour pieces than a cross-weight transmutation stone. A-net can far more easily design a light armour with metal plate parts (for example) than redesigning the whole armour weight system.
I’d recommend Braham’s armour- lots of cloth-looking pieces with fur trim. The shoulders aren’t very festive, but that doesn’t matter if you’re using Winter’s Presence. And of course, the santa hat.
What kind of system would be in place to prevent that, and how would it be designed so that it wouldn’t limit a small but actively growing guild?
Easy, you have tiers based on guild size.
Ok, it admittedly took me longer than it should’ve to understand your explanation. (It’s getting late and there was a lot to think about! Even so, I still may have misunderstood so feel free to jump on me about that :P )
I get that the tier system would work for buffs, but how would it work for physical unlocks like the arena, tavern, workshop and mine?
Would it mean that a small guild could unlock it, grow in size and then not be able to access previously unlocked elements (they’d have to pay extra to re-unlock it)?
For some things I could understand that scaling down material costs would be easy. 1000 carrots? Make that 100 carrots, or 250. But low quantity, high cost items would be difficult to reduce/divide.
Do you think it would be confusing or misleading for growing guilds to unlock something, for it to be relocked again? Do you think it could breed a “kick” culture, where if a guild is just a couple above roster tier size, they’ll be happier to kick than to pay more to re-upgrade?
Even so, your solution still could be improved upon. I’m in a guild with 30 max. active players… more than 2/3rds of the guild aren’t regular players but are still “part of the guild” because they’re friends and old guildies who still belong. Would that mean that guilds with a high number of inactives get penalised? It certainly would put guild leaders in a tricky position: do they kick seldom-seen players in order to save money on the upgrades?
I agree that it seems unfair that a small guild of a handful of players has to shell out the same amount of money and materials as a 500-strong guild.
But, how on earth would A-net be able to fairly adjust the prices of a guildhall for smaller guilds?
What people have been asking for is some sort of scaling or “tiers” of GH size/requirement of materials depending on roster size.
That would mean that a small, 2-man guild could get all the finances together to unlock all GH upgrades in a short space of time. They could then max-out their roster and, hey presto, their 500-man guild avoided the huge expenditure.
What kind of system would be in place to prevent that, and how would it be designed so that it wouldn’t limit a small but actively growing guild?
As of this moment, the fairest (least exploitable) way of doing it is how it currently is. At least you can be a member of up to 5 guilds, meaning that small guilds can invite outsiders to help with guild missions. Influence no longer exists, which means in that sense larger/more active guilds don’t have an advantage over smaller ones.
Welcome to the game!
Most classes have a “viable” melee option, so just go with your gut. If it helps, read up a little bit about each class (and possibly their elite specialisations) on the GW2 Wiki http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page
Fun is absolutely a matter of play-style. If you’ve played other RPGs, I recommend listing what you’ve enjoyed before because I’m sure somebody will be able to compare GW2 professions to them for you
Here’s a quick breakdown of what I think classes are about (mainly from their profession mechanic):
-Elementalist: Master of elements, requires good skill management/memory for skills. They have 5 different weapon skills for each attunement (fire, air, water, earth).
-Mesmer: Illusionist, uses clones to deceive.
-Necromancer: User of death magic, minion master, has a second health pool when using the F1 skill death shroud.
-Ranger: Archer, hunter, pet master.
-Engineer: Alchemist, uses tool-kits which give a variety of alternate weapon skills.
-Thief: Stealth, high burst class
-Warrior: Weapons master with a generous helping of burst
-Guardian: Supporty/utility class, but still strong in the DPS department
-Revenant: (not super familiar with this one yet) but seems to be DPS-y with a good amount of support. Heal, Elite and Utility skills are changed depending on which hero you are channeling (possible to change between 2 out of a choice of 4).
As for race, it changes personal story, overall aesthetic (often considered the most important), starter map and a few (underpowered) racial skills. Once again, maybe using the wiki to find a bit of lore will give you a better feel about the races.
Good luck!
Trolling is trolling- it doesn’t matter what the subject of the trolling is.
If somebody is discussing anything with the intention of upsetting or annoying people, it should be looked at by the moderation team/CS.
Trolls are using Star Wars spoilers as the subject matter as it can quite easily upset a large number of people in one go.
Usually “en-masse” trolls use distasteful or controversial topics to get attention or upset (e.g. racism/sexism/homophobia). I guess this is different because the subject matter would usually be allowed, but the intention behind it that causes problems.
This means that CS will likely be very choosy about who to punish for such things. There has to be very clear evidence that the “trolls” are indeed spoiling for kicks rather than discussing. For example, somebody spamming spoilers in map chat, changing to other popular maps and repeating is more likely to get an infraction than somebody mentioning a spoiler when discussing the topic jovially.
Tl;dr: It’s about the intent, not the content. It doesn’t matter if it’s spoilers or an inflammatory joke. The results can be the same.
People rarely take EotM seriously. Succeeding doesn’t have much benefit for regular WvW.
I’ve often considered EotM a bit of a training ground. People use it to get to 80 fast. People use it as a foothold into WvW commanding. It’s not there for winning or losing, just for personal gain.
I haven’t done it since the karma aspect was nerfed.
What I remember was it would give you more wxp, karma and champ bags (thus loot) when capturing objectives instead of battling enemy zergs. Especially if you were outnumbered or knew that you wouldn’t survive a zerg fight.
If that’s not still the case, I’m as confused as you are.
Not 100%, but sometimes I just wish bad bad things regarding some people in games.
So a guy is in LA spamming Star Wars spoilers. Nice.
PS: I’ve seen it already but C’MON!
Report it. Please!!
So it is considered a form of trolling, which is reportable under the verbal abuse option?
Thank you so much GreyerSkies! He just got the gift in the mail. His chin hit the floor and then he erupted into a fit of giggles.
People talking about new things in map chat for the sole purpose of spoiling them are trolls and like to spoil people’s fun. I wish this was reportable, as it is a form of trolling.
However, people discussing the movie lightheartedly… I have no problem with this. Of course, it would be nice if they took their discussion to a more private chat if possible, to save those who do read map chat and don’t want things spoiled.
But if something is this important to you, it’s in your best interests to keep chats off or see the movie as soon as possible. There becomes a point where it becomes your own problem, not everybody else’s.
I have a theory that might protect some people against the spoilers though. If you have seen the movie, and see somebody write a spoiler in map-chat (and know it to be true), also write spoilers that are incorrect or just plain silly, to try and mask the correct spoiler.
Also, what’s the arbitrary time period to not spoil things in map-chat? 1 week? 2 weeks?
I would like to nominate my partner in life and in-game, Matazeruz.7498 .
He’s had pretty terrible RNG in-game compared to me, and he’s now working towards affording his first legendary. It would be great if he could have a little boost on his way! He’s always so supportive and helpful.
Merry Wintersday! And if you do ever decide to come back, feel free to whisper me and I can help you out.
Surely the same theory behind the PvP legendary back pack could have been applied here: if you’re good, it will take a short amount of time. If you’re not so good, you’ll still be able to get it but not as fast.
So, completing wintersday events should have rewarded some sort of festival token. Sure, some of the events/achievements could award more tokens if they are more challenging. But there are plenty of methods to get enough tokens, so it’s possible for the loyal majority to have the chance of getting it.
Here’s a mock-up:
100 tokens are required, just as an arbitrary amount. (e.g. the tokens would be exchanged for ingredients required for the mystic forge, or to buy items for the collection achievement. The tokens could also be exchanged for other festive goods.)
-1 token awarded for each wintersday daily completed.
-Generally speaking, 1 token would be awarded for each tier for each wintersday achievement (given upon completion of the achievement)
-The infinite/repeatable achievements give 1 token for “completing and resetting” the achievement
So that’s 60 tokens from achievements, excluding the repeatable ones, dailies and the Grawnk stuff from last year.
Assuming that Wintersday will last 4 weeks (28 days) and we’ll get 112 total Wintersday dailies and thus 112 possible tokens from dailies.
So that’s 172 possible tokens, excluding the plenty that also could be available from repeatable tracks.
It still requires some dedication (which means it will still have some prestige), but people of all abilities will have the opportunity to get it by playing how they want to. This sort of inclusive play is what A-net is all about, is it not?
Just send the gold to… oops, sorry.
It would be harsh to ban you but it would be worthwhile building up a portfolio of “evidence” to support any CS appeal you may need to make. Just a record/screenshot of what you give and to whom and why and I’m pretty sure they will reinstate you. Maybe even email CS in advance to let them know.
This!
Sending prizes to people is certainly not against the rules, but because it is similar to other suspicious/rule-breaking activity, you might get automatically get flagged and punished unfairly.
So yeah, document everything clearly, then it will be a clear case if you do have to prove anything to CS.
The new ones contain new/different drops, which could have a higher worth than the old ones. So my guess is to make sure that the new gift economy isn’t affected by the old one.
Saying that the JP is easy is quite frankly, ridiculous.
Down-talking people who cannot complete it is plain harmful.
People in this game have different abilities. Some people can’t do such JPs because their reaction times are too slow, have poor co-ordination, their rigs/peripherals may not be great, they may have poor internet connection and high ping… some may have a disability that prevents them from completing things as easily as the average folk.
I have never completed the wintersday JP myself. My boyfriend has always had to do it for me. Jumping Puzzles aren’t even a part of the game that I greatly struggle with- open world JPs have always been pretty ok for me, apart from the aetherblade one.
My problem is that I can’t stand all the people around me. They’re distracting. The present part, I don’t want to jump ahead of them if it means they are guaranteed to fall down etc. The JP would still be difficult without the “competition” but at least it gets rid of a wildly varying factor that makes it almost impossible for me.
I guess I’ll try playing it during the early hours of the morning and hope that fewer folk are doing it.
Anet will not do that at all . for them free to play is now big . and it is all done and over and there is no use crying about it now. besides the drev,s will not even answer this post or any thing on there own forums. maybe you should try redit at lest they will see it maybe otherwise your out of luck .
You made the same mistake as Agemnon, it might be worth actually reading the OP (and the rest of the thread) before responding.
And yes, I agree with what the OP is saying! Waste of time!
Crimson, my comment of erp’ing comes from the many posts made on this subject in the other threads wanting revealing armour. It is not so much the armour in and of itself, but the reason many want it (not all). It was only my opinion, I respect others opinion and was naive enough to expect the same. For my part I dont care if they add it or not really, I only care that they add my bunny ears!
Don’t mean to sound snarky, but would you be able to quote/link posts that suggest that players want skimpy armour sets just for ERP?
I’ve done a quick google, and have drawn a blank. I know there have been plenty of similar threads to this one, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a post that suggested that somebody wanted the armour so they could ERP more easily.
The majority of responses want it for variety’s sake, or to match what’s available for female humanoids.
EDIT: Lol Flesh, you took the words right out of my mouth!
@Scandi:
I totally agree that this game is not a place for ERP. It would be in violation of the ToS.
But I can’t take you seriously when you imply that including revealing armour parts for male characters would increase the amount of ERP in game, or would mean that the PEGI rating would have to be increased.
Firstly, consider that in-game actions by other players is not accounted for in the PEGI rating. It is somewhat covered by the code of conduct, but like I said, people who publicly ERP will likely get punished for doing so.
Male characters can already run around shirtless if they want to. There are already some revealing chest-pieces for males (namely for the heavy classes) as well as Daydreamer’s outfit. The people who really want to ERP will be doing so already, seeing a bare male chest a few more times each day isn’t going to “convert” people.
So in this case, there is already mild “nudity” (if you could even call it that). I doubt that more of the same is going to make the content more mature. If every heavy male character from launch was dressed in Pit Fighter or Scallywag armour, would they have had to increase the PEGI rating then? (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scallywag_armor
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pit_Fighter_armor)
And this:
If they haven’t lost the rating with the female armors, they won’t lose it with a little bare male chest. Western society shuns boobs more than it does the male torso. I mean, look at all the shirtless dudes in summer
Ok, I understand if you don’t want to see male chests everywhere- if that’s not your cup of tea, that’s fine. But your argument (that it’s better/safer for the game without) doesn’t really add up, if you’re trying to use it to validate your opinion.
If the “pro-male-skimpy-armour” team and I are on the same page, all we want is more variety regarding male armour, so that both male and females of all armour weights have their fair share of “skimpiness”.
Finally…
“Beefcake” (noun, informal)
attractive men with well-developed muscles.
Where’s the problem? Some people refer to their female avatars as “eye candy” and a variety of other terms that mean the same sort of thing. You can call something attractive without being attracted to it, no?
Please no. Not in this game What an awful idea. Maybe The Sims or Second Life is what you want to try out.
More of something that’s already in the game and has been since launch? Terrible! Scandalous!! Immoral!!!
Let them eat (beef) cake.
Haha- I cracked a smile at this one :P
I’m not really one for scantily clad characters (women or men).
It would just be nice if there was a bit of equality (and more variety!) in the game. There must be plenty of norn males who want to show off their tattoos, or charr who want to show their fur.
What bothers me is how women are more sexualised in the game than men. I get it- it’s a demographic thing, to appeal to a largely straight-male audience. I do worry that they don’t make many skimpy male armours/outfits because it hurts them in the pocket. The Daydreamer’s outfit was quite a controversial one. Perhaps it won’t hurt them so much if they make future non-gemstore armours the skimpy ones?
I do think A-net struck a sweet-spot regarding the scantily-clad female armours. Compared to other MMORPGs, the revealing outfits here are quite elegant and certainly not in-your-face lewd. I guess one could say that it celebrates the female form rather than exploits it?
And if you don’t like scantily clad males? You don’t have to make yours look like that. Live and let live, be happy for the variety
Tl;dr: the sexualisation of women here isn’t bad, but it is a shame that the sexualisation is greatly skewed towards females.
Slightly double standards here.. using the laugh emote to wind people up and you expect them not to flame?
I have to agree with this.
There is never really an excuse for bad behaviour, but it certainly becomes more understandable if you antagonise and provoke in the first place.
As also mentioned, 2 people really isn’t everybody in-game, so don’t worry about it.
There’s always an optimal way to conduct yourself to avoid drama. Doing the opposite results in being a drama-magnet. Don’t provoke people. Avoid debate in map-chat (or just avoid using map chat altogether). Block people if you feel they’re any thread to you.
If you knew you weren’t cheating, why would you care if that one person thought you were? Surely, if anything, that’s a compliment- the opponent couldn’t understand why your skill level was higher and the only logical explanation (to them) was that you were using something to boost your performance.
Even if they reported you for botting (which is also used to report hacking), the report wouldn’t go anywhere if you’re innocent.
What if there was an item in the gem-store that would allow the bearer to access an adventure whilst it was locked?
It would be quite similar to the SAB infinite continue coin, would it not?
Do you think such an item would be harmful to other players trying to progress the map meta, or beneficial?
Pay-to-win or convenience item?
Yay or nay?
Wasn’t happy with how my Dragonhunter looked so I revamped her a bit. I’m quite pleased with the similarities between the head, shoulders and gloves. I wanted to use Primeval boots but I can’t quite find a dye that makes the bony parts look the same colour as the rest on my mix-and-match.
Some areas of the TP will always be very finnicky. Things low in demand/high in supply are always ridiculously unstable. For instance, I gathered a few Pieces of Mother of Pearl whilst running around the HoT maps and they’re a real pain to sell.
So yeah… tips:
-If you’re flipping and don’t like relisting, don’t try and flip “high-risk” items. Anything that is ridiculously high in supply and average demand, or anything with very very low demand
-If you are flipping high-risk items, do it in small batches. The amount really depends on the traffic the item has. You’ll get a feel for it when you learn a particular item-market. It’s better for just 2 of your item to get hugely undercut than listing 200, because of the TP fee. People will also get put off by seeing a large number (like 200) and either smell you out as a flipper (and purposely undercut you) or will honestly not want to wait for your 200 to sell and will sacrifice a copper or two to get sold first.
-Also with high-risk items, try listing them over night or before you log-off for a few hours. “A watched pot never boils” comes to mind…
-Additionally, don’t get impatient. I absolutely avoid relisting items. I only ever do it if absolutely necessary (e.g. I need the gold or I know that the price has crashed/recovering losses). You may get undercut by a few, but just leave it. Those orders will probably fill and you’ll be top of the pile again.
-If listing and selling really is a battle, consider undercutting by more than just a copper. Learn the market from an alternate angle- work out the distance you need to push your price until people will stop following you and will just happily let your orders sell before listing. Obviosuly, if it’s flipping you’re doing, consider your profit margins and work out if you’d rather get a small quick buck or wait out for the mint.
-Finally, if you are flipping low demand items, it could just be that you’ve been beaten to the post by another flipper. Flippers will defend their item aggressively to chase off any competition.
PS: I’m actually not a flipper. I dabbled briefly, but found it was way too much hassle for what it was worth. I have some experience with investing in stuff in GW2, but I also sell a lot of the materials I accumulate from general game-play. So I might not be perfectly qualified to give advice regarding flipping, but I feel like I have a bit of knowledge in the general area.

2nd one is very generic. Many rangers and thiefs run around like this. I go for the 1st one, like the steampunk armor.
I share the same opinion to an extent.
I totally agree that the 2nd one is very generic (especially for thieves): all abyss/shadow abyss is an easy answer for any armour. It will look good (as in, you won’t have to hassle with colour combinations etc), but so many people do it it’s just uninteresting. The only thing that’s somewhat unique is the nightfury shoulder piece.
The colour combinations for the first one is more unique, but the Scrapper mask + magitech armour is also a generic look for many engis. Don’t get me wrong- I like it (it’s great seeing the scrapper mask synergise so well with details on the magitech armour), but it’s unoriginal. Really the originality with the set comes with the other skins you show (weapons and backpiece, which of course we can’t see on character select) and how they match or contrast the armour-look.
Personally this is why I like to show the finer details of my characters, so I have more chances to stand out from the crowd. It’s probably why I often lean towards Charr, Asura and Sylvari (who seem to have more opportunity to look wildly different), try to show hair/tattoos/facial hair on my norn as well and use wacky hair-styles on my humans.
This is all just my opinion though. If you like it- go for it! You’ll be looking at your character the most… who cares what random strangers think?
