It’s not a pure coincidence. But there is a element of random that is outside of a player’s control.
Given that it’s less than a week that random element is still out in force for a lot of us and it sucks. (I spent the offseason playing unranked with and against some of the ESL guys, now I spend ranked season trying to carry a circus)

No, they should never ever at any point do another hard reset.
Glicko requires having lots of data to work. Removing all data means we go back to total randomness.
People having 70-90% winrates because it’s week 1. They won’t be able to maintain that longterm.

The problem with mmr is that it takes hundreds upon hundreds of matches to work properly. The other problem is that glicko was built with round robin in mind.

I got placed in bronze. Clawed my way up to gold 2. Then the mmr fairies got mad and put me on a massive uninterrupted loss streak and now I’m back in lead division.

Roamers are only as good as their team. If team can’t hold even 1 point you are not gonna win anything.
But they can carry the +1s.
A lot of times in pugs you end up with situations where the only way to carry your team is to personally +1 every fight. You can’t do that low mobility classes.
As a primarily necro and warrior player I basically have to trust (hope) that the guys on the other nodes can win their fights. I can’t just zip over there and zip back like a thief or rev can.
Also most pugs have trouble dealing with good thieves anyways.

1) EU player n° 250 has (right now)1781 mmr, you are 229 in NA with 1746. In Na the competion is like a large hot join but everyone knows this.
Higher ratings in the EU don’t mean it’s more competitive. More rating inflation means their is less competition because it means that players are able to climb uncontested.
A player’s rating increases when he isn’t getting matched against better teams. The fact that ratings in EU are climbing faster than in NA points towards the EU players not getting matched against equal opponents on a consistant enough basis to slow their climb.

Of course the op is in top 250. All he plays are rev and thief which are the best carrying classes due to high mobility.
Meanwhile the rest of us that don’t play high mobility classes are screwed due to not being able to maintain a presence on all three points and thus have to rely on the pugs being able to win their respective fights. (which due to the law of pugs, they always lose)
I played with in against emdrix on a number of occasions during the unranked season. He knows what he is doing, but I wouldn’t call him a god either. Also has a habit flipping out in a salty rage.

I’m in the same boat as the OP. Got placed in bronze 2. Worked up to gold 2, and I am now getting locked into gold because I no longer gain enough rating on a win to advance.

But even then, pure solos vs a 2 duo team, and gained a whopping 14 rating….

Nobody that cares about their rating duo queues anyways because the matchmaker throws duos under the bus.
I literally doubled my win rate when I stopped duo queueing.

Yeah I’ve noticed this aswell. Tend to get matched with the same people repeatedly.
Only real workaround is to friend them and not queue till they are in a match.

From my perspective, Life Blast is not homing, Dark Path is even easier to dodge (provided pathing does not fail), and Tainted Shackles does not have a strong enough CC.
Life blast is homing and going to disagree with dark path being harder to dodge than deaths charge if you are trying to avoid the path of corruption proc. The release point on dark path is just really low for most projectiles, so it is easily missed unless used from a distance. With that being said reaper shroud 4 and 5 are way stronger than the death shroud counter parts.
Dark Path misses more at distance because at increased distance target movement is more likely to cause it to “out of range.” Death’s charge’s advantages are that it doesn’t require a target, and it doesn’t require hitting the target for the movement component to work. Oh and charge isn’t a projectile so it’s not ruined by all the projectile hate.
Anecdotally Dark Path has as far as I can tell the worst success rate of any projectile I’ve used in PvP. I can go entire matches without the skill ever successfully connecting.
Life Blast’s damage is bad for it’s cast time and it’s a projectile.

Let the people below complain about the conditions below. I don’t think any of us are complaining about good players being able to skip, were complaining about those of us who aren’t as good basically sitting in a cesspool circle there doesn’t seem to be a way out of.
If it’s working for you that’s great, for those of us who are trying to make it work and having trouble or misunderstanding things we want to let the devs know what are issues are.
I don’t really get this. If you understand that you aren’t as good then why are you expecting to constantly climb? Maybe you are in your appropriate division?
I apologize if i sound mean or rude, i don’t mean it and I’m genuinely trying to understand.
You do know this is a team game right? Everyone is accountable, not just 1 person. If this is a dueling game, yes by all means there is no excuse for you not to climb up if you are bad.
The only common denominator between all your matches is you. Over a large number of games your rating will approach your skill level, even with pugs.
Unless the Illuminanti is conspiring to ruin your rating. Then yeah you’re probably stuck forever.

I’d like to know strategies about moving from 1.7-1.8k+ more because sounds like the old Diamond but without Win Streaks (that was the key to climb).
Yeah, that’s because you can only climb up to your skill level under the new system.
Your ability to climb is essentially a asymptotic curve whose limit is your skill level.
Unless you got placed above your skill level at which point you’re going to find yourself on the downrank train really fast.

The first times before this latest match, I added people to my friend list every time after a defeat, none of them was even 600 rating meaning they were all still doing placement rating…but I’m already 1400 rating
What? Pre placement everyone is at 1200. I don’t think it’s possible to have sub 600 rating even if you lost all placement matches.

The only reason we have “placement” matches is because glicko is highly volatile during early matches, so the devs hide our rating so we don’t flip out watching our rating swing all over the place.

Skill doesn’t matter if you can’t affect solid movement upward outside of the first ten matches where you are randomly matched up. The people saying skill matters got lucky on their first ten games.
You can though. I finished my placement yesterday at 950 rating. Yes that’s right sub 1k.
I’m currently at 1347 rating, and I will climb into gold tomorrow and expect to get into platinum before the season ends. Climbing is entirely doable, it just takes time. People need to stop expecting to winstreak straight to legendary.
Also those people that got a lucky placement are going to have a rude awakening when the good players with bad placements start working up the board.

Its a strong combination, but I wouldn’t call necro squishy: more like a high damage tank with lots of easy to land cc and aoe cleave.

The only way a necro can be “tanky” is if his LF generation is close to or exceeds the damage he is taking.
Which should never happen in PvP. Every offensive and bruiser class has the necessary offense to burn through the LF. Unless you’re talking about a defensive stacked necro (SReaping, rise, SArmor, etc) at which point the necro has mediocre dps, and less corrupts, and should not be a major threat.

So what your saying is that a offensive class becomes tankier when combined with a support class?
That statement is true for literally every [insert support class] + [insert offensive class] combo.
I also fail to see how the 2[3 if plague sending’s conditions are met] corrupt procs that occur during shroud are any more or any less pressure than a warrior using Arc Divider every 3-4 seconds during beserk, or a thief vaulting everywhere, or a DH trap nuke, or a Guardian burn burst, or a Mesmer condi bomb shatter, etc. etc.
Also the procmancer build you referred to has terrible LF generation, and it’s fairly straightforward to burn one down through the ele’s healing.

so if i unlock a mistforged hero weapon…..i automatically get the hero weapon skin too. same with legendaries, i buy one, i get its precursor and all skins for crafting it free just for unlocking it
but when i unlock the ardent glorious skins…..i dont get the glorious skins with them, kinda lame
Because Ardent glorious aren’t legendries, and regular glorious isn’t a precursor. And of course Glorious Hero is only reward for winning specific tourneys.

Mistforged unlocks the regular because mistforged weapons require the regular in order to craft them.
Ardent Glorious are not crafted and do not require the regular glorious weapons to produce or buy them.

Oh I love that they buffed burn guards, in all but a single match today there were 3+ DH of regular or burn variety. GG ANet, way to take a class that you admit is overpowered and over represented and buff them further. Your playtesting group must be outstanding!

I guess my only question about the placement matches is this: Is our placement rating based on game stats or W/L?
If by game stats you meant he damage, healing, defense, etc, then no, those don’t factor into rating adjustments.
If those stats don’t factor, then how come the guy (jaberse.8726) that I duo’ed all ten placement matches with ended up with a different rating?

Damage dealt and damage taken and their breakdowns are useful for doing post match analysis.
The damage dealt to kills ratio is very important to judge the effectiveness of your offense in a given match (if you’re damage/kills ratio is high it means you’re taking a long time to kill targets. Where as low damage/kills means you’re killing rapidly.)
Being able to compare power vs condi for both damage taken and damage dealt is also useful for buildcrafting purposes.

You cant blame losses solely on playing against ESL players. Many of them are frequently solo and a lot of there magic comes from being part of a cohesive team. Two hours a day is enough play time to be as good as anyone by the way. More then enough. ESL players solo and get stuck with morons and lose sometimes just like everyone else. Contrary to the popular belief a lot of people like to perpetrate it is very had to carry in this game as 1 person.
With current conquest in GW2’s you can’t carry like you can in other PvP games. You can only mantain 1 out of 3 points. Other games you can kill the other team and then your team can kill their titan.(Carry)
A good player can use proper rotations to maximize their effect on the match.
The difference between gw2 and other games is that you can’t carry by simply being a good fragger.

You can only do it with one person because of duo queue, so you can’t get an entire premade outclassing another team. Also pips didn’t have backwards progression like ratings do, which auto-corrects the problem.
Couldn’t that still be gamed by simply getting a new “amber” every so often, thus eliminating the issue of the amber’s rating rapidly increasing, thus leaving the higher player’s decreasing mmr as the only pushback? It may not work long term but it could still provide a temporary manner to game the system.

No. No it wouldn’t. Having access to both would turn it into a skill spam class.
Weapon skills -> reaper shoud 1-5 ->utility/wep skills -> death shroud 1-5 when cd is off.
Having 5 entire skills is much greater than a single skill.DS and RS skills could share cooldowns. Problem solved.
Then it would be pointless because you’d never use the core shroud skills. Core shroud is literally terrible.

I think only Dhs shouldn’t be allowed to stack. Idc about necros or anything else.
Necros actually stack really well whether they are power or condi. The amount of minions alone is ridiculous. You can’t block 5 necros, and condis don’t stay on them for long.
MM necro stacks are easy to cleave out. And non-MM necros don’t stack well at all. The necro team ends up having both a sustain deficiency and a raw dps deficiency.

I think what he’s trying to say is 2 teams of 2 are purposely queuing at the same time so they have better chance of being together. Sure they might be on opposite teams or not on the same game at all, but half the time it works. And when it does, its pretty much gg for the 5 randoms.
My suggestion if your a solo’er, wait 1 week or be prepared to get farmed.
Between the MM and just the number of people in queue, the probability of successfully sync queueing is almost nothing.
sync queuing only works in games with First in First Out match queuing. This game doesn’t do that so it’s not possible.

Why not just stick with Carrion still? I don’t see the need for the precision, you get some extra power for the autos when not spamming evades, and a larger health pool. Shorter duration condis but a bit more bursty with higher condi damage.
