If a person blows all of his CDs to get a ginormous backstab… more power to him.

People only look at damage numbers for what is happening in balance. Don’t mind the fact that thief has by far the worst defensive stats in game right now.

You will break this class if you nerf the damage because right now it is kill in a combo or be killed in a combo. People who want 30 second -1 minute duels are going to kill the game. Is it cool to be locked in an epic duel that lasts a long time? Sure. Has a thief/rogue class ever been in any game used as a drawn out fighter like class? No.

I play the thief because I like the ability to take pick a target and kill it. high risk high reward. I wont stay and fight if I know it will be drug out. We are not supposed to fight fairly which to many people want.

If I want a drawn out fight that involves everything I have at the perfect time I will play my necro or ele. If I want to be an assassin who takes high priority targets through lining their skills up perfectly I will play my thief.

They are different classes let it be different play styles. I have an issue seeing videos of warrior running around with 20+k hp and 100 blades dealing 18+K damage because the warrior was patient enough to wait out the escapes. (what a warrior is built for) but people freak out when a thief lines everything up right with 12k hp and deals 10k with a backstab. The design of the classes point to one being able to front load it all and the other being able to wait it out.

Is this the same setup you would have used without the orbs?
Loved the video it gave me much hope for my thief. I was very sad when I saw event at 80 only 10.8k hp. Wondering if I should invest in vitality at all or just go for damage. pick target kill it leave and come back again.

Everyone is different in this I guess. I loved playing priest but something that is a huge turn off for me in MMO’s is a huge amount of abilities. When it comes to abilities it is less is more. SWTOR has a lot of people mad because of no macro use and you bind your whole keyboard to fit the skills you have. Not saying you do this but I know in WoW most people bind a key with a priority macro set up which auto chooses what interrupt they will use next and which ability isn’t on CD.

A lot of abilities is like building a deck of magic cards to counter all other decks. It fails. You want to build to your play style and accept that you will be countered. This game is great because you have to choose and you cant have abilities to counter everything. When everyone has 30+ abilities to use the game changes to who can counter play and use their cool downs best. To do that macros are made and then you just have 4 buttons again that make decisions for you.

May I ask what exactly this means? What was the system and how was it relaxed? I am so glad to hear this for 1 major reason.

I have noticed a trend of late where people freak out over bots and every time a fix happens loot gets nerfed. People don’t seem to realize that for bots it doesn’t matter. The farmer behind it logs in to many accounts at once and sets it up and then AFKs. He doesn’t care how much we nerf it. The people hurt by it is the casual player who only has a couple hours a day to play and who feels forced to farm. The bots don’t really care how much we nerf it for them, in fact more nerfs to looting makes them money. You report and ban them and they just get new accounts. Set up the bot and go to their normal job. Bots will bot and get gold in game no matter what. In fact they will out farm a normal player until the day where money is not made in the game. Reporting bots and complaining is only making it harder for you and I to farm what we want and makes their effortless farm easier. Farmers don’t care. Their only worry in the day is if they need to reenter their card info to get a new account set up.

I am very happy to hear that it is being relaxed. It has been a topic in vent for a few days and a couple people in my guild have stepped down to play other games. If you could go into a bit more detail on this I would love the read.

Doing jump puzzle in WvW and an Ele is waiting in waterfall to kill anyone who falls. Well I fell and made a heck of an escape. turned it around when he followed me into the water. Got him down and was working on his hp from there and then BAM he was gone. Logged out right before I could finish him.

I benched my thief for about 2.5 weeks and came back to it last night. One thing I notice is that I feel like taking gaps with IA is a lot more effective but some still give me problems. Can someone explain to me exactly how this works and what determines if I will not make the jump? I was messing around and found some spots where I could go through gates and walls and then I would try to get up a step and it would bug out at the bottom. Is the ability working as intended or is there work that needs to be done?

I just traveled across the map and as the loading screen was going remembered that I had no money. Decided to test it further by traveling to a 7 copper way point with no copper at all and it still let me. Is it taking the money from my bank or is it a bug?

So my guild wanted to be able to get into WvW easier but switching to the server we did showed to have more problems than that. We now control less than 5 waypoints throughout Orr. In 3 days the temple has never been taken and the only people in the zone are bots running in groups of 4+ auto attacking mobs. We are looking to move the whole guild and dont care about winning WvW we just want to be able to get in have fun and then effectively farm at 80.

Is it just the difference between medium and high populations? or is there something I need to look at specifically with each server before swapping?

OK thank you all for your feed back. I was thinking about how many gapcloser utility I needed to use. Kind of a bummer but at least I don’t need to keep that signet up because I will have a dagger most of the time in main hand.

I love the chilled bonuses and actually am building around those. I got 6 glyphs of ice or whatever where you get 5% increased damage against chilled and each main hand (dagger and axe for the slow + #2 spell on each make me happy) has the sigil that 30% chance on crit to chilled for a while.

An unrelated questions is this. I built my hp to about 20k and got “knight’s” on everything else for power precision and toughness. Really my only vitality right now is from the glyphs in my armor. Brings me to about 2k toughness. Is this in need of tweaking for being durable enough to play dagger?

Also off hand ideas? I love the focus so much I was going to use it on both because those are my situational items. is it a waste of space to have the same offhand with each combo? should I get another with one of the hands?

Hey guys I want to play a melee based necro but am running into one massive issue. This range. I have no problems staying in range with my thief or warrior and I understand that all classes are different so I looked at what I did have. I was stoked to see that I could get 35% move speed increase if I duel dagger and used the signet.

Still having issues. Would it be incorrect for me to say they don’t stack with each other? what ones can I mix and match to get a decent speed boost?

If they do not stack is it a bug or is it intended? I hate when people hand you 3 cookies but say once you have eaten one you are done and the others sit there incapable of being able to be eaten. Just wanting to get confirmation.

That is one of the things I myself enjoy about the class. I run with a few other guys from my guild and my goal is always to be the one the enemy is focusing. I can lay down tons of aoe really fast and then bunker down. hitting 4 while in DS may spell certain death for me but it also spells death for the enemies while they let my team who is more speced around damage eat them alive.

To answer your question. I am much more likely to decide not to attack classes instead of targeting others. Mesmers…. if I don’t get a mark on it early I will leave it for last. As far as classes I like aiming. If I see a necro in DS using #4 I think of the 2-3 teammates of theirs that I can kill while they sit there wasting their own survival skill. A thief hopping around is much more fun to force a stealth out of than a necro to CC. Just dodge roll in opposite directions and force it out of its aoe comfort zone.

Thanks for the posts guys. I now have a couple questions for you more experienced axe wielding necros.

I have been going with power so far and was planning on focusing power, toughness, and either vitality or crit. I wasn’t planning on going pure dps with this but is the crit worth the stat in exchange for vitality? I know we have high base hp. If I get toughness will that eliminate the need for me to stack vitality on this so I can focus on another damage stat like crit?

I know its not as much damage as some want and the dots are not their. I know it isnt staff and scepter. Instead it is axe focus. I tried it even though I was near convinced I would hate it but the exact opposite is happening.

Are my numbers huge? Not at all. But I would argue in PvE you contribute more damage than anyone else in your group. I have been able to keep 10-15 stack of vulnerability on targets most time and 10-15% damage for everyone is awesome. That alone makes axe so much better a choice in my eyes than other builds that show you your numbers.

I love focus with it for the utility of the 4 slot. The build is based around being as effective support as possible and coupled with staff I have fallen in love.

Anyone else running axe as a main weapon?

Are spirits as bad as people say they are?

I have used spirits since I could get one. What I have found is they are squishy so I want to utilize them the most right as they get laid down. I drop frost and sun pop my ult and QZ and then swap pets right when QZ wears off. Just off of auto attacks people freak out. Usually have my short bow 5 right after to stop the incoming heal. And then it is over. A bit of set up but you can turn everything on while you are running. I only use spirits for burst because odds are I will be moving in a fight out of their range and they will be useless once someone glares at them wrong.

I love this burst build I feel like for 6 seconds or so it is the peak damage in game. then everything dies and I go back to being normal ranger. With pets able to hold someone down just long enough to get off a huge round of damage this build is the bomb.

I am lvl 43 right now and laughed really hard. A you had a 79 which has been said. B. If I am in a zone for 40-50 I can walk through an area do 2 or 3 things for an event and keep walking really not even need to stay there the whole time, and get 2+ silver and 3.5+k xp.

Your screen shot only proved how terrible this change was.

Get to 80 asap guys cause winter is coming and soon your lvl 70-80 zone events are going to be “to easy” and receive a 50% + reward drop after you do them the first time.

It is not terrible right now but I was expecting to get full reward for waiting a day in between my run. A guildy wanted me to run AC with them and it just turned out I had run AC 26 hours before that one. 26 hours was I farming it? NO. Did I get more than 12k xp? NOPE. I finally told him sorry I wasn’t running again until he could go back and forth between CM and AC.

Also Bow fighting is what got me to play the ranger. I loved shortbow on my thief and I will say. 650+ on a crit is still pretty awesome.

Precision/ power/ crit damage build based around quickness will still be strong even with a small nerf. But 20% is to much to not be mentioned in notes.

How can it be a 20% damage nerf at lvl 80 and near unnoticeable at lvl 40? Why are some level 80s seeing this and not others? this forum would have blown up by now if everyone was seeing it. fill out a bug report and blame it on the weapon maybe ANet will respond to that and confirm nerfed or not.

Hate when this happens. I 100% agree I would not instantly destroy tonics if I could be an anvil! Tonics are after all only worth anything when you are planning on not doing anything. That said it would not take long until playing the anvil would be nerfed to the ground. As soon as someone clicks you you would turn back cause that action would certainly not be allowed while under disguise.

Balance patching is fine. Stealthing a nerf is NOT. If it gets confirmed I feel bad for anet because that is not something you want to be known for 4 weeks into a new game. I caught I stealth nerf to akali a while back on LoL and it is just something that loses respect for a company. Also shows a lack of respect for the player base when you try to make a change that they wont see. Not needed at all. Would like to see this confirmed or killed quick. I know my first reaction was to go to where I was leveling last night and test it. If it was nerfed it is such a low % that it is unnoticable at my level.

I have to say no because even if I did lose some damage it is not enough to see a 200-250 damage loss at 80 per hit. If I lost damage it was my short bow 1 skill going from 90 damage to 87. Even scaled out that % is not going to effect 200+ damage per crit at lvl 80. A nerf of 20% would have to be in the patch notes. Otherwise you can count on ANet calling us all idiots to our face in the near future.

Right now I am only lvl 38 on my ranger but my ultimate plan is to go short bow quickness/pet/crit build.
I use devourers right now because I love their range but am thinking about trying it with cats. The swapping pets is a huge thing and I find that ettins 2-3 levels higher than me will get killed within a few short seconds when I swap my pet early in the fight for the quickness. I decided to give it a go against a couple veterans and the results were awesome. Took 20 seconds ish to kill each one but as long as I am on top of my pet switches I can keep both alive and 1/5 of the time I am fighting I have quickness up. I am not focusing any condition damage because my idea behind the build is more for constant high crits. When I pop my cooldowns starting a veteran mob I can have 20 stacks of bleeds on the poor guy in first 5-6 seconds. From there it is just about keeping him off of my pets.

This can only get better as I lower my cooldowns on swapping pets and get piercing arrows.

My only struggle is what to get that will go well with the short bow. Was honestly contemplating 2 short bows and using different runes on each for on hit chances and cooldowns.

Quickness is awesome.

Heck yeah! combo fields are awesome with quickness.
Honest people will laugh but I am a believer in my auto attacks. I was going to use 2 short bows both with the quickness rune if it didn’t share a cooldown. I am bummed now though I will have to find something comparable.

Also, is opening strike bugged right now? I used it a lot but saw the icon for debuff on maybe 1 of 10 targets.

Oh what’s that they found a way to cut dungeon times to 15minutes better punish them for being so good.

DIMINISHING RETURNS – DIMINISHING RETURNS FOR EVERYONE!

Only one I know of that can be done in 15 minutes is a group of 80s and CM…. Buff everything in a lvl 40 dungeon because a group of people with lvl 80 gear can beat it to fast.

Great solution. Unless you are a level 40 trying to do the dungeon with a group of people geared for lvl 40.

Good luck getting your money back though. New game no test server. It will be changed within a week to be closer to what it was this morning is my guess. If it stays like this they will lose a lot more than just you.
For me the only issue I have is that the dungeons were not cake mode for people at the dungeons level. Now they are hard as hell unless you are lvl 80 and I have to go back to farming hearts so I can “experience the content to its fullest cause rushing is pointless.”

Ele lvl 70. Wish I enjoyed it more would have been 80 2 weeks ago.
Thief lvl 52. Same thing.
Ranger now! Love it! found out about dungeon farming and was so stoked I didnt have to farm hearts again. Rushed to 30 as fast as I could got it last night and went to bed excited to be able to make quick levels and finally get one I liked to 80. Woke up this morning played 2 dungeons and thought something was wrong. Came to forums and got punched in the nuts.

WHY could I not just love my first toon like I do this one?

As title says quickness is awesome. I have fallen in love with it. I want as much as I can get. So far that is not very much. 4 seconds once a minute and 2 seconds every 16 seconds. My question is I see the rune with quickness built into it (rage I think it is called) and I see the 45 second cooldown. My question is if I get 2 one for each weapon will I be able to swap weapons after the one procs and get the other one to proc on a separate cooldown?

Or is it that if you have one rune they all share the same cooldown?

Also. When I switch my pet in and out they lose the masters bond. I understand that playing off of them being fresh to the fight every time will they benefit from opening strike on switch?

The dungeons are being balanced to who?

I can dodge and prolong a fight all day. I am really honestly interested in who the devs are working to balance it around. We saw a big change today and now its not really the new low levels that are having issues. When the lvl 80s who run CM are complaining of the buffs to the mobs inside it tells me that a group of lvl 40’s are really gonna have issues with it.

One thing I can say is this game has plenty of room for personal player skill but I just ran AC with a group of 30s and the difference between that and having a group with an 80 is laughable. When the 80 is dying before mobs go down that group of 30s would mark focus and kill 1 then need to run back and redo it until you can get them all down.

It’s ridiculous how many posts there are that are suggesting these dungeons are not fun.

They are complex, so complex that people are complaining ingame about how much gold they have to spend on repairs. They’re beatable, and conceivably beatable without dying but a couple slip ups will cost you your life. Exactly what endgame should be.

I see so many posts on the forums about dungeons not being fun. Bugs are one thing, ‘not fun’ is a totally different quality.

No need to reply, just wanted to vocalize the obvious so ArenaNet knows they’re not doing as bad a job as a browsing of countless threads would suggest.

Most of them are not endgame though. They are endgame when you hit 80 but not while you are leveling. I think anti fun comes from going to a dungeon while leveling to find it is made to be fun and challenging for those who are lvl 80 and running it.

Arrives at dungeon. and teams with a bunch of other excited lvl 30s.

Gets inside and gets blown up. Over and over again.
someone else says “well it isnt so bad when we have an 80!”

“Why would a level 80 do this?”
“For the gear.”
“oh ok. But wait why lvl 80 in a lvl 30 dungeon?”
“well they get scaled down to level 30.”

Do they really?
Let me ask what the difference is between stats on a lvl 80 scaled to 30 and a level 30 who is wearing a new set of lvl 30 gear?

We get scaled to 80 for WvW but you go play against a real 80 as a level 30, it is an uphill battle you likely will loose.

Does it work the same way? Someone laughed fighting lvl 9 skritts because even scaled down with his weapon he would 1 shot them.

So with these changes, and I am not talking about reward or gear drop rate changes, who was targeted?

Is the dungeon you get notified about at lvl 30 still a level 30 dungeon? Or is it now a lvl 80 dungeon made for people who were scaled down and farming it?

If one thing has been shown it is that scaling is an awesome idea but it does not equal balance. So my question is this.

Are the dungeons made for the level they are advertised as or are all dungeons made for lvl 80s to get challenged and receive gear for?

The amount of whining never ceases to amaze. If you like CM so much you want to run story mode a billion times, go do it. All this “b-b-but is hardeeeer” is nothing but pathetic – you have new things to deal with. It’s not the old CM anymore. Learn it again.

One week later we’ll have the same people say it’s just right, and three weeks from now the same people will say it’s too easy (because mob X lost 1 HP in the patch notes). AGAIN. Like with every other dungeon out there.

Its not that it is a harder dungeon. It is that even scaled down your stats are playing a big role in what you can do. Don’t rage at people playing a dungeon for their level who are mad that it has now been scaled to be a challenge for max level characters running it.

When your lvl 80s get gear from a level 40 dungeon advertised for lvl 40 it is to easy for them to get beefy because they deal tons of damage compared to lvl 40s even while being scaled down. it is expected that to nerf the lvl 80’s they had to nerf the lvl 40’s by twice as much.

Don’t advertise a dungeon for lvl 40s when you are going to balance it to a scaled down group of 80s. The scaling down thing is awesome for so many reasons but the problem is putting your desirable sets of gear in content made for half the level the gear is wanted at.

Gear for 80s should be available everywhere sure but you should not have to punish those who are not at max level for other people wanting their max level gear.

Grinding for gear being easy is bad. Increasing the grind for xp is worse.

Your best gear or most desired gear set should be worked for. Making me grind for the levels so that I can start grinding for the gear is wrong. Full lvl 80 sets being reward for low level dungeons is what is killing it. To nerf those who run at 80 I guess they felt a need to nerf those who are trying to get to 80 so they can start working on their gear set.

It shows that they are aware of issues but they are putting a bandaid on a bullet wound with this “fix”

Issue is simply that it is to easy. Who doesn’t love fighting boss after boss? Problem is that the bosses are just beefed up trash mobs. No trinity will lead to an issue like this but there are ways to fix it.

I dont just want to run dungeons. I played an ele to 70 and a thief to 53 through hearts and discovering 50+% of the map on each. That was a lot of invested time. I did their whole questlines up past the levels that they are at and neither of them are the class I want to play.

Decided I wanted to play a ranger and have found joy in playing it more than the other ones. I want to feel epic. I wont touch the story line for my race until I have my T3 culture set because that is my chosen style. I want to feel like the “hero” which everyone calls you as I do my quests.

This is something I am hoping to be able to do and experience content a different way. Why can I not level in dungeons to meet that goal sooner? My biggest issue in past games is that you become great and finally feel complete and then the content is gone. I am creating a way to feel complete and then play some content. I have already gotten 30% of world map going for level 30 as fast as I can so I could start doing dungeons with my guildies and today was the first time I got into them. Ran 2 and as the boss died I felt like I finally was going to be able to make up for the time I took leveling 2 classes I didn’t love up. Then I saw it.

“Grats on the work here is your half a tax return.” Its like tax returns in California only the game has no IOU system on xp and silver you spent on repairs.

I don’t mind challenge. I like difficult things.

I understand that you should be doing content for content’s sake. And yes, dungeons are enjoyable when you first experience them. They are worth doing. Each and every one of them, even though a lot of them are bugged in some way.

The problem comes when you are to do a dungeon 50+ times. At that point, it’s not doing content for content’s sake. You’ve seen all the bosses. You know what everything does. You know how to approach everything. You are now doing it for the reward.

Arena Net can make all the dungeons harder and more challenging. I will enjoy it. I’ll enjoy them a handful of times. But if I have to do the challenge 50+ times, I want just a bit more incentive than 2 silver and 17k experience.

Those are not exaggerations.

While I agree I also disagree. It is touchy. Running the same dungeon over and over is bad.

The issue is not that you have to run each one so many times the issue is that everyone can be cleared in an hour.

To balance and give an epic feeling instead of “I decided to grind the same hour 50 times in a row” they need to make the content more difficult. They need to put a timer on how often you can run not punish you for running it. And their really needs to be a separation from a 5 man dungeon and a guild run raid.

Why would you put your pride and joy that your devs worked so hard making in a dungeon that takes an hour to clear? You want it to feel epic? You want your item sets to be epic? You make bigger badder content that is not based purely around aoe covering the whole ground and the boss randomly choosing who they will one shot next.

Its not like the gear is going to min/max your set anyway. I love how gear works right now. I dislike that people get it so fast that they feel bored or they don’t get it fast enough that it is a terrible grind.

I think the root is there are to many sets stretched across to little content. If you cut the amount of sets in half and spread it over multiple dungeons for a single set you would probably have been fine the way it was.

This is one thing I thought blizzard did ok on. You would not need to nerf the individual dungeon. And we wouldn’t be forced to try for 2 sets at once.

More than anything. The rewards only happening at the end sucks. I got to last boss in AC and 2 people left. They were just done. Had to get another group to come in and finish it with me. That hurt them for their next full run because now everything else is nerfed for rewards.

If I invest in breaking my gear I should not be punished because I am breaking it the same way I did 40 minutes ago. Lessen the drop rate or reward system is fine. Taking away the xp and silver gained is really harsh. They “fixed” 2 things when only 1 thing needed the fix. XP and grinding for levels is not the issue. Getting your set of 80 gear within a week of 80 is the problem. Maybe use a token system that you can purchase the set pieces you are looking for and double the cost.

Anet doesn’t want us to feel like it is a terrible grind but they don’t want it to be an issue of simple either. Neither of these things was fixed with the change. What did happen is they broke a viable way to get experience.

If I get half the silver for rerunning a dungeon can I get my repair cost cut in half also. This is becoming more stick with less carrot option. If you don’t want to get screwed by the system as it is changed you have to pay more for repair or you have to pay to use WP back and forth every other run…. That is of course assuming your not working with a group that has become used to working together and doesn’t waste time dying resulting in a quick smooth run of a dungeon. If your group is good you need to work on 3 sets at a time instead of focusing on your set that you want.

This is a band aid on a bullet wound. The issue is not how fast people can get gear but how the gear is distributed.

Never mind just found the post. Sad day. Punish people for playing content. Just because someone wants to do a lot of the same content doesn’t make their way wrong from yours.

So it says it is nerfed. How badly though? How long do I have to wait before I can run another dungeon? And will I ever get the normal amount of xp again or is it a one time deal and then you get half the gain for the same work forever?

Nerfing the amount of times you can go in in a given amount of time would have been better than making it useless to farm them. Grats to people who want to spend all day discovering hearts. Thanks for making other peoples way of playing obsolete.

I just went into AC for the first time and got 14k xp and something like 15-20 silver. We went out and reset it and did the run again in about 45 minutes. Less time down and Much less deaths and I only got 7k xp and 7 silver. Is there a time limit I have to wait or if you keep running will it continue to be cut in half every run after your first?

Bummer deal as I just did my first dungeon yesterday. This was #2 and 3 and I was pumped with people talking about how good it was for leveling.
