Best bit of advice I can give is join a decent friendly WvW guild, most people will be more than happy to take you through the “guild build”, what the skill rotation is for that build, how best to use it etc.
Secondly yes a gaming mouse is invaluable in GW2, I use keyboard for 1-5 and movement, skills 6-0 are on my gaming mouse. Before the gaming mouse I had them assigned to z,x and c in various combinations. Skill clicking is a nono to become better than your average.
The third thing I can really offer is make every profession and play them, so you know what animations to look out for when fighting that class. All classes are OP if you don’t have any knowledge of them when you fight them.
A better and more balanced method would be to go back to a time based stability, but cc would remove increments of time from that stability.
I think alot of the problem with stability is actually noting exactly how many stacks of it you have whilst in the middle of combat. Time based stability would be easier to visually represent to players in the heat of the moment.

Yeah, that ONE Vet Archer in the green keep on EBG must LOVE killing those drakes. He makes the keep WP contested for about 75% of my play time on EBG. Maybe he’s trying to level up to unlock his elite spec?
Probably got himself a couple of hundred pre-cursors by now….. That one NPC is about to crash the precursor market and buyout all Anet shares in a hostile takeover. =P
Actually the stakes were not to stop a single opponent but a large force… You have to imagine you are running at those stakes with 1000’s of other attackers, then they channel and slow enemies. Stakes have been a basic defense system for thousands of years, Anet did not reinvent the wheel…
WvW really is the fat lady singing… Even the toxic forums are dead…
As someone who did nothing but WvW for my GW2 time I can safely say I was one of the poorest people in my 400 man guild. The rewards are pretty kitten pathetic compared to ALL other game modes….
They could give 2-3x the loot in WvW and people would still make far more money in PvE and PvP. What we really need is loot that you can’t get in other game modes that is actually worth something to the average player.
Terry the Tengu in garrison?
Arthur the Archer in EB?
Lol that Tengu Archer in Garrison and the NPC attacking Marsh Drakes from Green Keep on EB will still be at their annoying never ending contesting games when GW3 comes round.
I think it’s very narrow minded to explain the rise of certain servers by their countries’ mentality. I hope you analyzed the matchups over a few weeks.
Oh and btw: your guild usually runs with around 60 which is a blob.
Really? Name one guild that manages to get 60 ppl together for a WvW raid?
TT is probably the largest raiding guild anymore and I’ve not seen them with above 30 since pre HoT…..
All we really wanted changed had they listened was the Alpine Borderland, slightly stretched, so that towers and keeps cannot be trebbed from each other. “LESS PvE” and 2 more towers in the top left and right corners in the unused Centaur and Skritt camps.
New texture and a bit of finetuning here and there, even going so far as redesigning towers and keeps to justify the expansion. But not the current maze like monstrosities we currently have to navigate.
Yes each of us does have ideas of where WvW should go, and until ArenaNet listens to those ideas and then perhaps “Polls” the WvW community on what it wants we will be stuck in this endless loop of bad ideas.
It really isn’t difficult to find out what your players want if you just listen a bit more. But you need to listen to more than one player. I’m pretty sure if some of this had been polled over the last 3 years WvW would be in a much happier place right now.
Question: I didn’t get a chance to play yesterday. What exactly did they do with the “bug fix” mentioned in the Dec 1 post, about being able to teleport for a few seconds between Repel Attackers events?
Isn’t this how we’ve been defending for 3 years now? Or was there an actual bug.Is timer still meaningful? Can we still spam WP?
If anyone who played after the patch can explain this, it would be much appreciated.
When it’s working as Anet intended, you can only WP when no enemies attacking, i.e. no WP with timer during defending, our old WP-PORT NAOW is gone…
IF you ignore the glorious Emergency Waypoint .
Basically if an npc gets in combat (like attacking another npc), the keep will be contested and the WP unusable, making it impossible to use on a regular basis…………
This was possibly my most flabberghasted moment, upon discovery of this change. This issue 3 years ago was admitted as an unintended bug, something difficult to fix and the wvw community heard nothing more. Now 3 years later they fix their so called bug, but then have the audacity to sell us access to the bug via a guild upgrade.
Really what have things come to?
Good find, in all honesty I can understand there being apprehension on their part to freely exchange ideas with players, especially the passionate and sometimes toxic WvW arena. But in a mode that is reliant on players playing for the mode to even work, you HAVE to consult with aforementioned players.
If Anet had made a flat MAP around the size of the flatlands at the windmill in alpine borderlands and allowed guilds to 20v20 on it, with a basic spectator mode they would have been a real power house in the esports arena. Instead they let massive guilds and communities fritter away and die in pursuit of this outdated 5v5 MOBA style esport.
The lag caused by big 3 way fights is server based. i.e it not being able to calculate everything it needs to fast enough. This is even more evident when after a really long 3 way the game clock tries to catch back up, during this time all players seem to attack 2-3x faster as opposed to the 2-3x slower of before. This only happens generally during the cooldown at the end of 90 man blob fights.
This is why there is now only 2-3 servers that actually blob up with all 90, because as soon as you gather 90 people to fight them the server has a coronary and everyone spends 90% of their time just trying to use any skill other than autoattack.
Most people have decided that after 3+ years this actually isn’t fun. We like being able to use the other 9 skill buttons. =)
Dear Arena Net,
This is being written in the hope that it might finally land on the desk it needs to be on at ArenaNet to have an effect. The wvw community is getting fed up with the lack of any backward/forward communication on wvw and its future. We love this game mode, made all the more believable by the passion people show for their relevant servers in the many, many deleted and infracted posts.
So please start to listen and communicate with the wvw communities and perhaps going forward make improvements to wvw. Not this current pve content dump we get in WvW when people at Anet think we’ve been neglected.
You had the next generation of Esports and you messed it up and pursued a 5 man Esport…. 5 man Esports are something we could do in the 90’s….
A final request for some actual back and forth information and ideas for the WvW game mode.
Regards,
The WvW Community
Meh the changes are again too little too late. We no longer have enough players to worry about the waypoints opening up for 2-3 seconds every 3 mins. In fact this change will just annoy the remaining wvw core. Core changes like this should be discussed with the WvW community. Who the hell makes these changes at Anet?
Secondly no-one even cares about towers/keeps anymore. It requires no gold, no effort and no player interaction. So why the hell would we stick around and defend something we have vested nothing in?
EB is now the only map that actually has people in it for 22 hours a day, the borders get the odd small group at primetime but other than that remain untouched all day long.
Anet please start consulting with the wvw community before you spend money on developers making changes that are destroying one of the most entertaining game modes available anywhere. WvW was definitely a better game mode at release than it is now……. Sure it had bugs, fix the bugs instead of removing the bugged feature….
Green EB keep is being always contested by an NPC stood on the north outer wall. The reason it is contesting is he is constantly attacking Marsh Drakes in the keep moat.
Please fix this, green have the longest distance to run from spawn….. I thought this was GW2 not a parkour simulator.
Personally I would try either removing 1 Graphics card or breaking out of Crossfire mode.
DX9 being an old DX can have some issues with newer cards in SLI/Crossfire mode.
If that fixes it you might want to try installing old drivers and re-enabling crossfire seeing if older drivers work.
Another thing to check is that the motherboard on board graphics is disabled in control panel, these can also cause issues more within Windows and it gets confused which memory space it should be using.
Hope that helps.
Yes, restore to 3 years ago, fix orbs, remove PvE mobs…. New amazing WvW experience complete =)
Very similar views from Selwynn and myself. Having played around 8500 hours GW2 and 95% of that in WvW, I know exactly what you mean. Sure we moan and gripe about wanting changes, but when those changes happen we would like to appear to have been listened to.
Personally all they needed to do for this vet to be happy was a small redesign of Alpine Borders which would have saved them alot of time and many unhappy wvwers.
All that really needed doing would have been:
1: Bring back and fix our much loved Orbs.
2: Increase map size by 10-15% and remove pve mobs.
3: Some new textures.
Alot less work than these new borders and likely to have brought a little more praise.
Whilst I actually quite like the new map it is just too large for the populations we have left in WvW. It might work as a rotation option for EB but as a borderland it is just far too large.
This map was much needed when asked for 2 years ago when we had a thriving WvW scene, but with neglect and limited advancements in 3 years the population has dwindled too much to support a map like this as a Borderland.
My suggest for now would be switch this as a rotation option for EB and bring back Alpine borders, while something a bit more suitable and smaller is created.
Just my 2 pence.
No real biggie and couldn’t see it reported before.
Having already levelled a char to 80 on my new f2p account, mostly out of interest in the new levelling system. I noticed that on my second character I could enter Eotm and WvW from level 1, but I cannot leave as I can only enter Lions Arch at level 35.
Either a second portal or removing the rectriction on Lions Arch as you have on WvW for the second character would solve the issue.
Not sure if you are aware of this, but if you stand in the spot halfway up the wall just under the ledge and an enemy mesmer inside SM uses their temporal curtain pull, they pull the enemy into SM.
This requires no hacks and I have seen this happen dozens of times. Having even pulled in several enemies myself.
Hope that helps, this may not be the case here but it’s certainly what I thought when I saw it.
Well I was hoping for a constructive conversation on the server lag in T1, but instead “in before moderator locks the thread away from all the trolls”.
Actually the double teaming has been good fun. The only thing that bugs me is do they have to double team at the exact same time… The lag is just horrendous and never been as highlighted as it is with 75 Vs 150….
At least take it in turns instead of this constant server meltdown currently being experienced.
There is no 75 Vs 150 to cause lag, there is no need, go ask your commander what happened on reset night on SFR home border, SFR got one pushed all night (until they gave up), even when they tried to go into the back of FSP when FSP were fighting Deso.
That is what happens when a server gets bandwagoned by PvE nabs that can’t fight, and a bug chunk of the decent players have enough and leave, SFR should stick to what they are good at, fighting doors.
Lol I was there, while 75 Deso attacked one garrison gate and 75 FSP attacked another garrison gate. This in itself was enough to lag the border out, the player caps are currently set too high. Any player with a single iota of intelligence is able to see this.
You also must be mistaking me for someone who gives 2 monkeys about losing a few fights in a computer game. This week is far more fun than golem week.
My point was merely that for decent 3 way zerg fights Anet needs to lower the player cap or players need to use their intelligence to avoid such ridiculous lag.
P.S Not complaining about the doubt team, it’s good fun and essential to the game style, what I am complaining about is the lag that results from it.

This thread now has many, many more posts than the whole WvW borderlands stress test sub forum. It is also only about 2k views short of the whole sub forum.
One does wonder what the point of giving feedback to ArenaNET really is…..
I have no doubt this is the most current, viewed and posted on thread in the forums. Even with the threads popularity with the masses Anet still does nothing to respond.
How does a company that provides a product to customers bury their head so deep in the sand?
With all the Golem hype going on I sat down and started thinking of basic things that wouldn’t be game breaking but would add new interest to a stale mode. Also shouldn’t be too hard to develop, as we know we get very limited developer interest.
Smoke Bomb = New ammo for catapult or trebuchet, would be like a cow poison field, but would be a thick white smoke cloud instead. Allowing for almost complete cover from vision inside the field.
I did try using the forum search function to see if this has been suggested anywhere before, but meh it has never really worked with any reliability.
#Credit goes to the reddit thread for this one. But had to bring it over here for attention by those who don’t frequent reddit.
Paranoia Week – All players are stealthed when out of combat.
Could make for a very interesting week.
Lol, PPT mean nothing this week. Nobody care about PPT. All that matters is that you move either clockwise or counterclockwise and cap keep after keep and hope that the enemy server holds this “silent agreement” so that you dont have to spend extra minutes walking over their corpses. Seriously, why does a server that’s been wiped over and over even try to defend their paper garrison when 30 golems are coming to flip for the 5th time in an hour. Backcap kitten , stick with the program.
Funny thing is before this event not many would admit they cared about PPT. Those that did would get flamed. Now all the sudden people care about PPT again? Next week no one will care about PPT and be back to just looking for fights.
Will say though not many fights so far in my match up so looking forward to next week so I can roam again.
Nope never cared about PPT but it certainly hurts the PPTers. I like fights, I like small fight, medium fights and even the really big fights. But this is just not happening this week.
Basically WvW is made up of 3 groups of players, casual WvWers who couldn’t care less if they can’t WvW for a week and don’t mind playing EOTM so will happily Karma Train. You have the PPTers, who like to scout, defend and attack towers and keeps. Finally you have the fight lovers.
Anet has alienated the 2 biggest player groups in WvW with this one, hence the pages and pages of negativity.
OP has a point, RvR is and always will be popular amongst the competitive gaming communities. 3 years ago Anet gave us WvW and we were truly amazed thinking what a great start to an RvR system it was. Over the next 3 years Anet did nothing to enhance or extend it in any meaningful way and when they did make changes they didn’t actually listen to the WvW community at all, we got EOTM…..
Since then most of the big named RvR guilds have left, or just gone on really long sabbaticals waiting for the next game with a decent RvR system.
Had Anet actually advanced WvW with developers and small investment then WvW would have been truly massive. Millions of people watch streams of 5v5 barely knowing that fights can be soooo much bigger. With the last 2 years becoming TWITCH mania Arenanet has really lost touch with this one.
Your 5v5 system is nice and everything, but your ESPORT is not the best bit of competitive play in your game, WvW is….. Some of the viewing figures for the unsupported GvGs back when the big RvR guilds still existed were truly sensational.
To be fair the Golem event could have worked, but not 24/7…..
1 hour a night of crazy siege would have been fine, I mean I got bored of the Golem blobs alot quicker than that. But I could put up with almost anything for an hour.
Or maybe even make an event or tie it to an event, so that maybe 10 mins in each hour could be crazy siege time if your server completes their event.
But I repeat any siege craziness like this will not entertain the masses for long. So please don’t do it 24/7 next time.
Well a mod can’t really do much to help us out. Their job is forums, they have nothing to do with the actual game.
Yea, I wouldn’t blame them as the forum has gotten overloaded with threads, but now the thread is totally unreadable and really hard to pick stuff out.
On the other hand, it’s pretty self-evident. I pretty much just linked this thread and said they screwed up.
The entire first page was covered with complaints from various users which were merged into the current thread with over 600 posts, with the response being overwhelmingly negative. At this point the forum merging has made the thread unreadable, but it should be fairly apparent that the method of deploying this event wasn’t optimal.
As I said a “We merged the thread and will make sure we spam our developers with it to get your point across.” would have been enough. Which in fairness Archon has now done =)
But I never liked thread merging on topics as important as this, especially on forums as populated as these are. I would rather Mod’s locked the thread with a link to the most popular and literate version of the thread. A little more effort but doesn’t step on the toes of the thread creators in the same manner. It also doesn’t annoy the original thread creator whose subject text is no longer anything like it was when created.
Well a mod can’t really do much to help us out. Their job is forums, they have nothing to do with the actual game.
Meh a “This thread has been merged. Thanks for all the feedback, be sure we will make sure the developers read it” would have sufficed….
But as per normal in the WvW thread we get…… Nothing…..
I love the fact a mod/dev shows up to merge our threads. But they don’t have the decency to respond in any fashion at all.
12 pages of 90%+ complaints and it gets hidden in a thread that sounds like somewhere to go and tell them how brilliant the idea is.
Truly it really is no wonder nothing changes. All the decent ideas just get merged and ignored. I mean really is our non-existent developer going to read 12 pages to pick out the gems?
Ok if you are a hardcore WvW’er I can kind of see your point but frankly, it’s a few bloody days, you really can’t handle being ripped away from WvW’ing for a few days? I know I’ve enjoyed this event immensely made WvW just crazy for a little bit!
There has been thousands of ideas and suggestions made over the last 3 years which would have made WvW interesting for a week.
I have yet to see a player ever suggest that double damage golems would be great for a week long event, with good reason……..
There are no WvW devs… So why would one of the pve/pvp devs come in here to be strung up and neutered?
A few devs tried, realised they had no power to change anything in WvW and retreated back into the shadows. WvW could be a esports changer…. I never liked esports… 4-5 people playing a game isn’t enough for me, we live in an age of internet and social media. Why would I only want to play with a team of 4 people.
Esports will develop into larger team games, of which WvW could have easily been the pinnacle and the aim for many other game developers.
If only there was a charity I could inform about the mistreatment of WvW by Arena Net developers? (Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to WvW) RSPCW
Its not terrible, when i drop allot golems so others can use it free i dont see any one complain, but if they need to buy all complain, and if they lose a few fights also allot complain, but thats always the same when players lose allot complain.
If you play it well with a few players or even alone if the enemy isnt nearby you can take towers or even keeps, before they can safe it.
And if you need to lvl up you can use the golems also for that with capping allot xp and rank points and event gives more magic find 50%!
Spoken like a true pve/eotm specialist.
I don’t want to karma train around and capture undefended keeps and towers, if I did I would goto EOTM….
Well Anet with 3 years of almost no decent development you have lost almost ALL of the big name MMO Guilds. The ones remaining are being pushed away as well.
The world waits for a mass PvP zone with siege MMO that will not just grab peoples attentions, but will develop and progress to keep them interested. Well you grabbed peoples attentions 3 years ago and failed to progress at all.
WvW only player here…
Not amused as being described as an exception. Just about everyone on my friends list is only in WvW unless they have timed out and been put in Unknown land. I also avoid the mists like the plague due to the high number of gold spammers.
Again this golem event is a pretty big smack in the mouth to people who enjoy WvW.
For years we have called for less golems, they brought us more….
We cried for new maps with the original essence of the current ones. We get EOTM 2.0…..
We asked for less pve in wvw maps. We get more, so much more….
This event is a sham and I’d much rather have seen a week without golems, or catas, or trebs, or my favourite without AC’s!!!!
What an awful assault on the eyes that is. I’m sure this will impress the new additions to your community no end……
Pretty sure it can be locked just for actual lack of content of any sort.
No you can’t, but just keep smashing wvw…. It really doesn’t take that long to max all of them. Then you get left with a massive pool of wxp ability points that you can do nothing with…… Another useless currency yay!!!
Just something I would like considered, please change the drop symbols for Champion Bags, Ascended Crafting Mats (Bloodstone, Empyreal and Dragonite), Spoons and anything else that should really be on the junk drop table but produces a Steel or Wooden chest.
I would like to know that when I see a chest it contains something of interest, like it used to. Now everything drops a chest, doesn’t feel special anymore and I no longer look what’s in my inventory until it’s full.

“Lets make this easier to understand..
There is no more Core game.. only Heart of Thornes. You can’t buy the core game anymore."
Finally realised things smell fishy have we????

If Anet wanted to make it that way they could. They have marketing and PR teams that get paid to make sure things like this aren’t a complete sham.
As it is their marketing is saying, “go away all players who bought GW2 on sale in the recent months. You thought you were ready for the expansion. Wrong……”
Anet has bent us over a barrel and parked it on this one.
Even a package that’s $5 less without the core game would have kept most of this at bay, but no…. You buy the core game again and we can’t even be kitten d to give you a single character slot.
You also don’t mention anywhere how much more content will be included in this expac. Will I be buying another expac and the core game for the third time over the coming months?
Anet please stop screwing your long term players on this one.

Wow, just wow Anet….
A loyal player for almost 3 years, purchasing several character slots, bag expansions etc and now you want to rip me off by making me pay for a game I already own in order to be able to use the expansion.
Meh unless a package without the core game (which you have been pushing like a drug dealer since the expac announcement) appears for purchase I will definitely not be partaking.
What company has the gumption to charge you twice for something and smile while they do it…….
