I don’t hang out in LA anymore. It used to be the spot to go to see and be seen. To stand around by the bank and talk, dance, look for names you recognize, see call outs for help in WvW and in general, socialize. Then they trashed it first by making all servers one server (and not exempting cities) then they trashed it again by destroying LA and designing it so spread out that the congregation spot was removed.

One thing that’s apparent is the lack of understanding that people want to socialize and being careless of this aspect in designing or changing the game. It’s communities forged that hold people more than shinies or achievement points. ANet consistently doesn’t realize this. If they did, they would respect communities and their gathering spots instead of removing them. They would add things that support communities instead of neglecting them in favor of adding more outfits, gliders and gemstore weapon skins.

You are kidding right?

The new Lions arch is head and shoulders above the old horrible boat arch, honestly i was not sorry to see that old place go, it was hideous and was a total disservice to the original GW1 lions arch..

I’d take this new bank over that claustrophobic last one we had any day.

Yah?

And where are all the people who used to congregate at the old bank to socialize now? Gone, scattered between all the other cities. Some of them more “claustrophobic” than old La, such as the bank area in Rata Sum.

(Which was my point, not a comparison on aesthetics).

I see as much or more in the new LA as i ever did in the old, the only bad with the new LA is the jump puzzle is now stupid hard its not worth doing anymore.

And maybe those two annoying kids with kissing, but the old had the same annoyance with “ahh ghosts”…

Honestly to me Rata sum Bank is just as dead as it always was.. Divinity Reach and LA were always the most lively of the two.

The bad I see with the new LA is that it’s boring. It looks like something that could be set down in the heart of any modern western city. All white concrete, a few bushes here and there for color and uninspired buildings. It’s as far as you can get from the old, whimsical LA with its colorful, interesting buildings made up boats. I only go there for an occasional mystic forge and leave as soon as I’m done. Obviously tastes differ. I’m glad you like it.

Personally i still preferred the original lions arch but honestly i really hated the original boat one GW2 came with Default, and this new one to me is far more prettier and much more accessible to most things.

I agree its a lot more open but i like that personally, i also think its designed that way with events in mind, i maybe wrong but it makes sense to me..

I really dislike how the personal story still takes me back to the horrible old one though.

Vigil weapon selection box?

Dante.1508

Hi all.

While doing a mission on one character i was awarded a Vigil weapon selection box to choose one skin for them, which was pretty cool (not my favorite weapons but nice either way), as my character was in the vigil i was pretty happy.

Now my next character has also been awarded a vigil weapon selection box, but they are with the whispers :o that is really weird to me and honestly a little wrong?

Is this a bug of some sort or is this vigil weapon selection box the only one of its type and better still why? where is the whispers weapon selection or priory?

Headaches playing HoT

Dante.1508

Hello as per the title i’m getting nasty headaches playing HoT, i’ve played nearly 4000 hours in GW2 and never suffered from this and 3 hours in Heart of Thorns and i have a splitting headache..

I had to log out, anyone know why and whats changed?

Not enough information to figure the cause.

1) are you prone to headaches, or are they unusual for you
2) if you are prone to headaches, do you know the triggers for them

I’m going to take a guess that emotions are the trigger here. If you’re finding those maps more frustrating than enjoyable then that might be it. 3 hours of frustration can certainly trigger headaches. More generally, maybe you need to be taking more breaks. Getting up and walking around for a couple of minutes every hour to relieve physical stress. Eating a bit of food or drinking water might help. Stopping when you feel a headache trigger and thinking about how you are feeling right then or what sort of things are going on would be your best bet to figure out the causes of the headaches.

1) no i am not. yes its unusual.
2) Some games give me bad motion sickness, not usually Mmorpgs though..

To the above about Frames per second thats funny because i’ve noticed my Hot maps can give me as little as 12fps at times yet the original GW2 never dips below 60..

I also have been having many crashes in the forbidden city part of Hot. (mostly where the 12fps started too)

Core i5 2500 3.3ghz
GTX770 2gb
16gb DDR 3
Latest Nvidia drivers.

In case anyone asks.

Just finished the DS Meta and...

Dante.1508

Every time I get into DS meta through the LFG there is a lot of people doing it. Only ONCE I have seen one of such maps fail.

I don’t know if they truly like it, if they hate it but are masochists, if they are there only for the rewards, or if they are like me (Find it really fun, but don’t like to repeat it too often).

So:
Many people “love it” -> Don’t know.
Many people “hate it” -> Don’t know.
Many people do it -> Oh, yes.

Its called hoping for good loot drops, love or hate it all boils down to the loot.

I don’t understand it Guildwars 1 had an amazing story, probably the best mmo experience i ever had story wise and team play wise..

But Guildwars 2 no idea what happened but it all fell apart right from release for me, and the living story just never washed with me either..

Just feels sub par in every single way to me.

Bare in mind the heart of thorns story is better than Guildwars 2 and i really really love the new conversation setup the expac has over the weird chat scenes we had in the Guildwars 2 story.

I really love seeing my character converse in the world all the time it feels real and much better.

For me the devils in the details, the Heart of thorns story feels lacking, there is no deepness to the story, the characters feel one dimensional and its all go here, go there, occasional cut scene etc..

Lol and people got all kitten about the devs canceling the next set of legendaries…

Not everyone, i couldn’t care less honestly..

Like we need more joke weapons like the dreamer or the moot running around, to be honest they are the most stupid items in any mmo i’ve ever played..

Immersion breaking and down right disgusting to the guildwars franchise.. Yes Guildwars had stupid stuff as well but it wasn’t locked behind 6 months or a year content padding grind to get them..

Before anyone freaks out i’m ok with funny event skins but the legendaries were the final tier of the game, pretty much destroyed that..

As they explained in their post, reddit’s format is better suited to Q+A sessions then a forum.

Also, “all members of GW2” can join in on reddit, so that’s not an issue at all

How is reddit any different to a forum..

Personally neither will help open world pve imo, it used to be fun but now its just too hard with zero rewards..

ANET please nerf HoT

Dante.1508

I always kind of laugh at these threads, because I was on the minute HoT went live, and the nerfs have been real. Current HoT is a cakewalk compared to what it was when it first went live. HP difficulty has been nerfed into the floor, enemy damage and numbers have been reduced, terrain hazards have been all but removed in some areas. I recently revisited a few a few HPs on alts I had been actively avoiding because of how maddeningly frustrating they were at release, like the champion frog in the canopy over VB, or the Mordrem in the abandoned temple at the low area of the start of VB, only to find that the frog had been turned into a commune, and the champion Mordrem had been turned into a vet. Let’s not forget the Vampire Broodmother who could insta-heal herself to full in the canopy too. There have already been plenty of nerfs, and the difficulty scale has reached a point where it’s fun, but not unbearable. Anymore, and it’s going to become as mind-numbingly easy as the rest of Tyria. I’m not normally one to say this seriously, but guys, git gud.

Really? Bugger it! Remember the original Orr? Man that was something. When I landed in Maguma when HoT hit the difficulty was very reminiscent of old Orr, perhaps a wee bit easier since I knew my toon pretty well by then. I was looking forward to bringing my Thief alt over for a bit of a challenge. Seems like it will be easier than I thought.

Can i possible ask what you guys find fun in that challenge you stated, doesn’t it kitten you off to not be able to complete stuff due to others mistakes or not being able to complete stuff solo… because.. padded challenge..

I personally do not feel fulfilled or amazing when i complete these overpowered events, i just think finally that annoyance is beyond me now lets hope the rest aren’t as painful as that was..

I understand people are different but for me tedious content just upsets me.

When’s he last time you checked your blood pressure? If you’re undiagnosed high BP or borderline, the higher stress from more difficult mobs may be causing it to elevate. That can cause headaches.

I must see a doc i guess i know i was checked a few months ago and everything was fine, could be stress i guess. I’ll book a date when i can afford it.

If HoT maps are different for you than Tyria maps, it might be the extra lag from all the dense environment in the jungle. If your eyes track across visuals that blur for you from lag , it can give you a headache. That might be the difference.

I see, i’m actually 42 and wear glasses. To give you an idea i guess. i’m not sure i noticed the maps seem different to Tyria ones they are less flat to me.

I haven’t had that issue in HoT, but the few days I played of BDO gave me a week of debilitating retinal migraines. Well, ok, it might have been other factors at work, but straining my eyes to see the mobs I was fighting, being unable to zoom out far enough, and having to hover my hand more over the keyboard due to wasd and combo requirements didn’t help.

So if HoT is doing that to you (and you didn’t just happen to get a headache by coincidence for non-game reasons — like the weather got nice and you opened windows and allergies hit, or you ate something your body didn’t like), then think about what is disturbing you in those maps. I’ve seen some call them claustrophobic, though I don’t feel that way as I have a far zoom and vertical offset on my camera, along with as little collision detection as possible so my camera doesn’t bounce a lot.

Are you tensing your neck due to feeling something might attack at any moment? Peering harder at the screen to find mobs? Blinking less often? Is your camera close to your character so you get a lot more motion from the uneven terrain as you run over it? Once you have some likely culprits for the headache — again assuming it is from the game and not a coincidence, as one time getting a headache after 3 hours of play does not prove it was the game — you can work to ease them and see if that helps.

It could be as you say i guess, i am trying to survive 24/7 which to me isn’t fun at all honestly.. But i do get nasty motion sickness in FPS games and flight simulators like Decent.

Never had an issue in an mmorpg before till this expac.

You also need to stop complaining about HoT maps and how hard and grindy they are when you haven’t even been in one yet.
You are complaining about SilverWastes which is the current farm map of choice.
You also don’t seem to realise that for PvE the maps aren’t on “your” server. They are shared instances across all either EU or non-EU servers. If you are in a dead instanced map, join another with the LFG tool, there’s usually a few advertising shovel farms, or showing what % of the map is done or that vw is up. Grab a taxi and join the groups there.

I’m Australian, i’m not in a EU map, i’m on Sea of Sorrows which last i checked was a US unofficial Au map..

And i’m only saying what i’m seeing, i started the Hot Expansion and it took me to silverwastes which i assumed was a hot map, either way the content on both SW and VB is a nightmare solo.

Not fun at all.

You’re right. Those maps don’t work well if there aren’t a ton of people on them. If you’re in a map where people are doing the events, then it can be fun, but otherwise, yeah, no dice. And, of course, you have to taxi usually to get into a good map. It’s the taxiing that I’m getting increasingly tired of.

I’m not sure what taxi means, but at about midnight my time i noticed the map filled up a bit… Midnight lol

During my day and evening times it seems the maps are quite dead, i’m now wondering if its a timezone issue.. I must say though the game population wise seems far more empty since ive returned from when i quitted at the zephur event.

To the above luckily i did complete Living Story 1, it was pretty lackluster for me at the time and i dislike tree people (i blame trahearn lol) so i wasn’t very interested in start of scarlet at all..

If you’re a capable player (or a player who doesn’t want to wipe every five minutes), you definitely start to adjust to HoT’s difficulty level. It doesn’t make it fun, in my opinion. It just becomes like every other map, only more tedious to traverse. It sucks to settle into doing events or helping people with hero point challenges when you have to run through a gauntlet of hyper-aggressive mobs no matter what direction you go in- slowing you down if you’re on foot and rendering waypointing impossible.

The keyword here is “Tedious”

I’m one of those people who can handle hard content but don’t like tediousness in MMO.And due to that I haven’t been in any HoT maps for almost a month.

Well said my opinion as well, we play games to enjoy, not to be bored or frustrated.

Agreed i was never against the trinity thing, it works better than what we’ve got here anyway..
Honestly the whole no trinity feature made the game worse than the actual thing it was trying to fix in the first place imo..

For an example of what is wrong with trinity, go try to join a party in GW1 as a smiter monk or, even better, as a ranger.

That’s actual bad mechanics making classes useless is not a trinity thing, if those classes were created with trinity in mind it wouldn’t have been an issue.

If you are spending too long staring at a monitor it could be affecting you visually and mentally. Spending some time away from monitor/game could help.
In case it’s an embolism or something my advice would be to see an actual doctor.

4000 hours in GW2 original and only 3 hours in HoT with a headache obviously something changed, my headache has subsided now since i left the game but i’ve been playing my revenant all week in original GW2 for hours straight with no headaches..

Only today it effected me and only since i joined hot..

Try going to orr or silverwastes for a similar amount of time, people can get a headache from stress or general annoyance :P

The “maps” are not dead. Use LFG to find a busy Silverwastes if you are in an empty one.
Don’t solo bases in SW just like you wouldn’t solo a world boss.
If your ranger is squishee, try playing on something else until you get a feel for the world.
If you absolutely insist it has to be your ranger or nothing.. change your build so you are more survivable.

Silverwastes is not Heart of Thorns.
Living story season two gives all the background you need on why sylvari are ‘evil’.

I just did Hot for the first time today, and it took me a good 30mins to take a base solo in silver wastes with my ranger…

I then had enough time to grab a vista and get down again when the base was instantly over taken… by strange dog things with insect legs, they out ran me flicked me up and insta killed me… fun…

I then run all the way back in time to see another player die to them and fail saving the base only to insta die again to strange green mist..

I then decide i’ll follow the story which was uneventful and well i have no bloody idea whats going on, apparently the pact has all been killed by trees and a dude with glowing eyes… Heart of thorn title and i’m in Brink..

No back story nothing so i’m lost completely I was away from GW2 for 2 years and well supposedly we are supposed to be able to drop GW2 and then return and not miss anything… guess not.

Ok back to Hot i’m wondering why sylvari are all evil now which is odd because the sylvari home town is still the same, i move on i defend this pact base after rescuing the reavers or something and ritlock turns up all ninja like and saves the day, everyone is shocked at him being alive but not me because i have no clue he was dead??

Then the real entertainment starts i finish the story and i’m told i must fly to start the rest well i have no clue on masteries so i go to kill some stuff… i’m insta killed by pocket raptors in seconds..

People find this map fun, really?

Also as an icing on the cake for some reason i get headaches playing hot, i do not in the original game, why is that?

The maps are dead on my server and well i have no real interest in going back, i feel i wasted my money on this thing.

TLDR Heart of thorns is a waste of time and money.

So i need to purchase 2000 gems just to understand my $60 expansion pack?

…wow.

Sooo…basically what you’re saying is, I didn’t do any of the story content for the last 2 years and now I don’t know what’s happened…?

Book shops must love you when you go in and say ’I’m just going to buy the final book in this series, I demand you tell me the whole story up to that point for free as I have no intention of paying for the other books.’

Guildwars 2 release it said we could drop the game at anytime and not miss content, so things all were changed huh.

Why my guild is retiring from GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dante.1508

Dante.1508

This is not one of those “I am quitting because xyz” posts. I actually haven’t played GW2 as a game in months. What this is about is other people quitting. Why do I care? Because I really enjoyed the roleplaying community. I still logged on to GW2 for my guild’s RP events up until today when the decision was made by the guild leader to suspend all official RP activity and stop having weekly guild meetings. The reason is that there aren’t enough people still active in the RP community. My guild hasn’t had any events in months since the HoT hype completely dried up, so none of us were surprised about the decision.

So this is about the RP community dying due to just people getting bored and leaving the game in general. Most RPers play the game, so when there isn’t enough content being released and/or current content doesn’t keep people playing, we see a decline in the RP community as people log on less and less.

I have some specific criticisms, mostly based on my personal experience and why I don’t actually play anymore. This is not a list of “conditions which must be met for me to play again”. It’s just things I think could be improved which could lead to people getting interested in the game again.

HoT lack of content – It just didn’t add much content… Honestly, the price isn’t the issue. The issue is it was hyped up but barely added anything. It added a few very cool things like guild halls and the raid, but very few areas and not even a new city. In terms of creative design, you have a lot from GW1 to work with, yet you didn’t. I honestly don’t understand given that GW2’s monetization model is sustainable and adding a large content update would stimulate more gem purchases.

HoT grind – Most of the new gear that HoT added requires a lot of grind to obtain. I don’t know if this was meant to extend the amount of time people spend playing to compensate for the lack of actual content, but either way there are a lot of people who just don’t aren’t going to do it. I wanted certain things like viper’s gear but I lost interest in HoT well before I finished a set of armor. Another grind issue that didn’t push me away, but probably pushed others away was the amount of hero points required for maxing out an elite spec.

The Raid – I really enjoyed it, but I only actually killed one of the bosses before I lost interest in HoT. They are quite difficult and the only way I killed one was when an acquaintance took me with his guild for a few runs. I also tried pugging VG to get some more of that currency for the ascended gear, and the pug couldn’t kill the boss. Not that I minded, but just pointing out that it was probably too difficult for most pugs. I dunno if the meta has advanced by now but I don’t see this as very accessible content. That is fine if you have other content, but this is the only raid. So I think it would have been better to add multiple raids and have some of them be easier.

Discouraging people from playing Dungeons – I mean sure, the dungeons are probably still worth doing, but it’s about the message. When you basically tell people “this content is now deprecated. No more updates, oh and we nerfed the rewards.” that is just bad for your game in the long run. Sure, you may have pushed more people to play HoT but you shot yourselves in the foot in the long run.

-
So that’s pretty much all I have to say. Again, this isn’t a quitting post. I just wanted to give some feedback due to the situation with my guild.

I understand where you are coming from, to be honest many mmorpgs today dont as many rp tools as they use to, but its bound to get old after a while, and why not to fractuals though arent they suppose to be more rewarding?

I have to disagree with the grind aspects they give you more things to do, people will get bored with sooner without some kind of grind at endgame, no incentive to work towards.

Every mmorpg gets boring after a while because you gained all your new abilities, used all the strategies, and played all the content, not everyone likes to get gear at end game but its there for those who do.

Which is strange because i get bored over the grind and leave far earlier than if rewards were just handed too me, i’d go off and do something else with my new reward honestly not just tirelessly endure daily on some treadmill for a shiny object..

That to me is the opposite of virtual entertainment.. I understand others are different but for me grind kills a game far faster than rewards thrust at me..

this is quite a confusing thread, it talks about role play, but gear and grinding and raids and fractal rewards (eh?) has nothing to do with role play. what matters is immersion, graphics, music, idungeons with a story and a nice look and feel, social features, emotes etc.

Not that confusing it shows that the grind and lack of content is effecting multiple groups in the game, even the ones you wouldn’t think it would effect..

Right but you would more likely get bored faster if it was handed to you allot more quicker, you will only use those new things for so long before you get bored with it.

As opposed to not bothering at all with the grind and moving on disillusioned anyway?

Honestly if the item given to me enhanced my gameplay enough i’d use it for total of the game, legendaries do not appeal to me at all because they are all ugly (to me)..

I have no use for a years grind for something i don’t even like the look of.. But if i’m given weapon skins like the ones we were given with achievement points were handed to me, i’m still using those to this day and i haven’t stopped yet..

…wow.

Hello as per the title i’m getting nasty headaches playing HoT, i’ve played nearly 4000 hours in GW2 and never suffered from this and 3 hours in Heart of Thorns and i have a splitting headache..

I had to log out, anyone know why and whats changed?

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

I think the maps answer this question perfectly, i keep being asked to jump servers because they are empty and i see like 5-8 people in them over a 3 hour period…

If that’s working as intended for an mmorpg then ok..

Will you pre-order the next expansion? [Poll]

No.

HoT story was awful ‘too hard’ content that made me sorry I ever looked forward to it. If this is the future of the game? Psssh… nope.gif

Yes this bothers me as well, I’m noticing my server seems dead these days as well, keeps asking me to jump servers because no one is in them…

That’s not your server, that’s you landing in an empty map. There is only one server for each region now, other than in WvW. But the problem there lies in a buggy implementation of the mega server map spawns; plenty of threads have commented on how it could work better to put people in fuller maps and not move them to maps that are soon going to close.

Then its happening all the time, i keep getting pop ups say please change servers about 5 times in 3-4 hours.. daily.

A praise to Anet for the HoT's story mode.

I’ve only just finished the first chapter but to me it felt very unstory like, i wasn’t in my own instance and well there is no back story, i never did living story part 2 so i have no clue wtf is happening which for the price i paid is unfair in my book..

I really did like the talking though i really like seeing my character actually saying stuff to everyone, nice touch..

Meta refers to the large event on a map that people do once they’ve finished all the pre-req events beforehand. As they are large group events, his point is they would be difficult to solo.

Maps can have meta events and still include soloable content and even other soloable events. Core Tyria maps did this very well – plenty of solo content and a large meta world event for those that want to group up.

(Strange use of Meta by the way)
But there are never enough people on the maps to do them, so the content sits there pretty much useless just to appeal to a small minority that may or may not want to do them?

The rest just ignore the content and move on, because they have no choice.

I see people doing the Hirathi Hinterlands meta every time I’m in the map. Same with other maps, say….Silverwastes.

I don’t think all meta content is ‘useless’. Probably just depends on the map, and who’s there.

Which is all true but not Heart of Thorns… its all old content you listed, Hot is dead where i am.

Things YOU know as facts:
1. I can buy unlimited items off the Tp without any server limitations- FALSE
2. I can pick up unlimited items into my inventory from the TP without any server limitations – FALSE
3. I can set arbitrary buy order prices at unlimited speed without server limitations. – FALSE
4. Doing any of these things in reverse (selling) causes an error to pop up – what?
Things devs have stated as facts in the past:
-series of random ad hominems that clearly make your points more valid…right?

Just because you don’t see the technical implementation of some aspects of the systems doesn’t mean it’s magic.

Do you really need to be so condescending about it?

It kind of comes across as a rant, doesn’kitten lol

The message really does gives players the impression that we can’t sell a certain number of items because they’ve got bot restrictions in place – like they have DR in place – it always amazes me how low the number is, though, of items that you can sell before this pops up. And I’ve never seen whatever posts there are out there stating that this isn’t bot related, so had no idea it was anything else. Still seems weird, though.

I actually had this happen to me when i was trying to add heaps of dyes to the AH.. Was very annoying and i figured it was just poor server connectivity, now i’m not so sure.

Either way its pretty annoying but that seems to be the thing in Guildwars 2.

Personally would prefer they fix the loot drops so i actually have something worth putting on the AH… lol

How would you solo meta..

Can you please explain better, Meta?

Meta to me is the domain of min/maxers, PvP and lesser so wvw, why on gods green earth would we want meta content in the story and open world pve.

All meta does is empty maps because no one can do them solo or in small groups and leaves large content inaccessible to the majority, which in turn makes customers leave because they cannot complete the content..

Less customers mean less revenue and no future content, think hard on your so called meta for the future of the game..

I can see why this divided the community

I really didn’t understand all the complaining about HOT until I played it.

I mean really, most times when people say things are “hard” (at least in my case) I can faceroll through it. I"m fairly good at games.

When I hit HOT with my other half in game, it didn’t even feel like the same game. Heres a few reasons why.

-Casual? Not anymore. Expect to die. ALOT.

-Exploration/hearts: Gone! As far as we’ve seen so far. Now you just usually get your face eaten by some rampaging champion plant dinasour.

-You can’t even take a minute to take in the scenery and enjoy the game without dying most of the time.

I am not saying HOT is bad. But is certainly doesn’t feel like the game I’ve enjoyed for years.

I hope the next expansion is nothing like HOT.

I haven’t tried it yet but this overly obsessive push to make everything super hard for the sake of it, isn’t fun at all, i do not need insane challenges in my gaming experience, i play games to relax not be assaulted by frustration..

This does not bode well with me if they are going this direction in the story, i’ll see how it plays out but i might just drop the game again, tired of getting killed pointlessly all the time.. in the name of “Challenge”.

If i wanted Dark Souls gameplay i’d play Dark Souls.

The story itself isn’t particularly hard. Traveling through the zones is harder…but it’s not as hard as some people make it out to be. We’ve seen more than one post of peoples scared of the new zones who tried it and wondered what the big deal was.

I’m going to try it today, so i’ll update my posts accordingly.
