Magic Carpet and Broomstick suggestion

There is an intended cost of choice between the ability for exploration and the combat power of our builds. Giving speed boons through items risk to break that tension, and the game as a whole. Put that power into a paid item, and you have Pay to Win.

No, thanks.

so they make a travel toy acquirable through an in game achievement or raid reward, easy.

Toys do not need swiftness.

Then classes that are constantly casting swiftness boons on themselves to travel faster, like eles, guardians, warriors, and engis can’t really use travel toys.

The only people who can really use them are classes that can’t maintain good swiftness uptime anyway so they don’t bother.

No thanks. The travel toys are toys, not combat aids. We don’t want to get into that conversation again…

You can only use them outside of combat, so it’s not a combat aid.

Alright, I like that you can automatically use travel toys out of combat now, that’s a great change, however, I still can’t use my magic carpet as often as I’d like because I cannot cast swiftness skills while using it, and running around at default speed is just too slow if you have to travel across zones with contested waypoints. So as it stands now, I can still only really use a travel toy in towns, where you have permanent swiftness buffs from masteries anyway.

Legendary weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Devildoc.6721

I’m pretty disappointed in this announcement as I have been looking for a new goal to work towards, something to keep me logging into the game. Legendaries are a way to do that.. but it only really works if I want the skin in question. Like I’m not going to go through all the work for something I’ll never use.

I was waiting on a new longbow skin, new greatsword, and new 1h sword skins, weapons I could conceivably want to have a legendary of, and didn’t feel like using the existing legendaries for, but was looking forward to what the new skins would be like.

I guess with the “indefinite” posteponing I go back to an “indefinite” period of logging in, doing dailies if they’re not too much hassle, and logging out.

I’m looking forward to new legendary weapons, particularly sword and longbow, any idea on when those might come out?

While I’m legitimately glad there isn’t a gear treadmill here (so I don’t feel I’m obsolete and have to grind just to be able to play at all) it is nice to have a long term goal to work towards so I enjoy legendary gear for that (if the skin is one I actually want to work towards anyway). I’ve ran out of carrots to chase for the time being and want something to shoot for.

Any feature that has to be selectively disabled in specific places is a feature that should not be implemented.

Game Design 101

Consistency is mandatory.

Either you enable a feature everywhere, or you don’t implement it at all. Selective enabling/disabling is disgusting and is game design failure by definition.

In general yes, but if it’s a new feature that could break some older areas in the game I’m okay with waiting awhile while the devs make sure the old areas can handle it. It took Blizzard a few years to get flying mounts on the vanilla maps, in fact they had to have a catastrophe in game in order to explain zones being redesigned in order to allow for them.

I’m actually pretty impressed that it’s being done so quickly by anet.

Gliding was the cheapest easiest way to get the mounted feeling.

There will never be mounts simply because of how much time and effort needed to be put into each race to do so. They can’t even stop horrendous clipping of weapons and armour now, what makes you think they’ll do it with mounts?

Having said that, as long as they keep selling you things you can do in other games for box price, they might try to invest in it in the future. Hell they’re might be more ideas they take from the forums to sell back to you as well.

It doesn’t have anything to do with mounts, it’s all about the fact that it makes no sense to add gliding to the game in some specific zones, get people hooked on it, but then say for some arbitrary reason that you can’t glide everywhere else, plus, gliding is fun. After gliding in GW2 so much I find myself falling to my death trying to glide in every other game I play because I’ve gotten use to being able to do it.

I mean, I get it, it’s second nature to second guess a developer’s motives on doing something, you’re always looking for how the developer might be making more money off the change.. but in this case I honestly think there was no deeper darker motive to it beyond gliding being fun and they wanted to be able to do it everywhere.

I already mentioned it a few pages back. Even before HoT was released Anet devs were wanting to add gliding to core Tyria as they got in the habit of trying to glide everywhere from playing HoT maps and falling to their deaths. They mentioned it on the livestream the night HoT was being released.

I can think of one JP in particular that will be a real pain to do with gliding: Chaos Crystal Cavern. this is horizontal jumping with lots of held space bar for precision column jumping. The glider will make you glide right past the ideal spot. Any jump puzzles with the particular precision will be painful. Pig Iron Quarry is another that comes to mind, to a lesser extent.

This game isn’t mario, the jumping controls don’t take holding down space as jumping further or higher, it’s simpler. Tapping space jumps just as high and for as far (holding W before jumping or holding directions in air will alter your trajectory instead). I used to do the same thing shortly after HoT released too cause you’re just so used to that mechanic in platformers, that holding down the jump button means more distance and height.

So just tap space for jumping without gliding.

Shared Inventory Slot Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Devildoc.6721

I really hate to say this, but this 700 gems for 1 singular shared slot is completely unacceptable. I’m sorry.

Considering how bombarded players are by inventory junk by your own design, all the weapons and armor and plethora of things we have to lug around… this IS a completely tasteless thing to do.

I suggest upping these to like 20 shared slots each or 1 shared bag slot for each one purchased.

You use the shared slots for a few choice items like copper fed salvage o matic, royal terrace pass/captain’s pass, bank/tp contract, etc.

You don’t need a lot, I think it’s a little pricey yes but I’m happy having bought a few slots for my salvage kit and royal terrace pass (now my alts won’t get kicked out and have to go fetch the pass from the bank to get back in)

It’s enough space because of what it’s being used for rather than just general inventory. Whether or not it’s worth the price charged is up to the consumer It’s just like the royal terrace pass itself, they’re selling a convenience.

the maps weren’t designed with gliding in mind like maguma
it will kitten it up
and anet knows this to be true
the only reason anet might add this eventually is to encourage the weirdos who didn’t buy the expac to do it because they will see gliders in the starting zones
say no to gliding in main tyria

The reason they are adding it to central tyria is because the devs, like us, have done the same mistake of jumping off tall places in Tyria expecting to glide only to fall to their deaths… so instead of having this break of “you can glide here but not here” they’re just making it so you can glide if you have the mastery for it. There’s no updrafts or leylines or need for stealth gliding but at least you won’t crater the ground on a regular basis from absent mindedly trying to glide while in central tyria.

I for one can’t wait.

Soooo… basically if you’re a casual gamer and/or have something more to do the coming days you’re not getting the shoulders… that’s great, well done Anet

well, if they take away the collection sometime and you can’t complete it next year or the year after, THEN you have a complaint but as it looks.. you’ll be able to complete this collection at your own pace, even if it takes years (just remember, you can get a present a day from your home instance.. might take thousands of days but you could eventually pull it off).

As for the meta achievement, it looks like once again it’ll be easier to just do spvp if you still need any of the minis, only real loss then is the title, since I think you actually do need both the drink and food achievements to complete the meta, you won’t get the title as a casual.

Agreed, this is one of the many things that prevents Bell Choir from developing a proper competitive #esports scene.

Great, if it stops yet more esports garbage in this game then leave it as it is.

Don’t worry, even without Free Play, Bell Choir won’t be esports. The game keeps score but you don’t get anything more from winning or losing as long as you can survive the songs.

Free Play does however, interfere with normal people being able to play the minigame because as I said, people ditch the minigame as soon as the last real song ends and they get their reward, they don’t sit through free play, and then you join their now emptied instance when it’s in the free play, can’t play the minigame, and then it kicks you out to have to try for another instance.

If we want to play whatever we want on bells there’s plenty of options outside of the bell choir activity now. Getting ported into instances of the minigame that are in free play mode is frustrating and wastes time going through 3-4 loading screens to try for another instance. The game is OVER at the point free play starts and people just leave, which ports other people wanting to join a map into this dying map with no purpose.

What if I told you I play this game for more then 3 years, i have crafted 2 legendarys and sinked thousand something hours in it, I have allmost 3 wintersdays behind me and still can’t play bell choir to save my life which results quitting the minigame over and over again. But feel free to pass judgment over f2p people by all means.

Uh.. reading comprehension dude.

Nothing about F2P players, or F2P as a system. It’s all about the Free play phase of the bell choir.

Anet’s restrictions on F2P players have been one of the most thorough things I’ve seen Anet do. Every possible way I could think of where an F2P player could damage the game economy, or damage the community was covered. The result? Prices on the TP weren’t jacked up by F2P player influx (John Smith’s manipulations of the economy on the other hand..), and Map chat is still in English and I didn’t start getting bombarded with more gold spam than I already was getting from them getting stolen accounts.

Compared to many other games that have gone F2P.. I haven’t even noticed any impact of F2P players, not negatively anyway. In other games the chat is now 60% portuguese and they start harassing you in portuguese whispers if you speak English, and the economy gets hammered by F2P accounts farming gold using daily events and sending it to main accounts and more gold spam whispers.

So to Anet… A+ on your handling of a Free to Play system

C- on your design of the Free Play phase of bell choir.

Way to respond just based on the title instead of actually reading the post Agemnon.

I’ve always hated “free play” time during Bell Choir. Most of the time people just sit there and do nothing anyway, barring the few easily amused players who like to spam random notes like a caffeinated squirrel. Its a waste of time. I want to play songs, not sit around for a minute twiddling my thumbs. There’s already enough waiting between rounds as it is.

Heck, I don’t even think its good for players who may actually want to play random stuff on bells, since then those people have to put up with playing all the actual songs first and only get a minute of free play. No one wins, really.

Add a “free play” mode that you can pick when first entering Bell Choir from DR. That way people who do want to play random stuff can do so without a time limit, and people who just want to play the actual music can do that without putting up with losing time from free play itself.

The thing is it’s not even just waiting around because when free play ends it kicks you back out to DR. It’s completely pointless, like you can’t even just stomach the minute and the game starts again, you get kicked out and have to try and zone into a new instance.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post, but if you’re getting kicked out to DR between every round then something is wrong. Maybe you’re getting hit with the AFK timer or something or having some sort of bug, I dunno. Either way, I just played a half dozen rounds of Bell Choir back-to-back just fine. You just have to stick around until free play ends, then wait another 15 or so seconds as the scoreboard comes up before the game shuts that round down and starts a new one.

It may seem faster to just exit out of the instance and try to enter a new one instead of waiting, but between load times and getting into instances that are already close to ending themselves… I’ve never found instance-hopping worthwhile for Bell Choir.

it’s kicking me out every time I’ve tried sitting through it.

Traversing Maguma is a pain in the kitten , please make the 5th glider mastery to allow you to get full flight capability, not just gliding.

I like the current gliding system once fully mastered just as it is. I don’t want straight up flying mounts that have full control because then exploration has ZERO challenge left to it, but limited flight the way it is with updrafts and leylines to supplement it, is very fun and I enjoy it a lot.

The only thing I’d change is make a setting so that automatic deployment of gliders was disabled so that I could make short jumps for jumping puzzles without my glider coming out and screwing it up. Sometimes it happens even when I just tap space.

The Chak Gerent is just fine

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Devildoc.6721

I realize this is a bold statement, but after having done the event multiple times, I’ve come to that conclusion. It’s basically just like tequatl, which also seemed too hard in the beginning.

Now, beating Tequatl is usually trivial. We just had to learn how to do it.

I participated in a TD meta event with the guild TTS. And you know what happened? Not only did we beat it, all but one lane did so with little real difficulty. It went by the numbers, the lane I was in (Rata Novus) killed it on the second burn phase with time to spare.

When we were done, the officers had a post-mortem where they asked each lane officer to tell what went good and bad. The one lane that had trouble beat the Chak Gerent with 4 seconds to spare, and she said the problem was in the beginning no one was really listening to her directions, but in the end they pulled it together.

And when they were done, the head of the entire run said, “well, there we go, we had two successful runs back to back, let’s do it again soon!”

I stopped and said, “Wait, you did this successfully twiced? In a row?!”

Yup, they sure did.

The point being you need a tight organized group. Its more complex than tequatl, due to separate lanes, but really, if you have a tightly organized map it works just fine. And, just as a final point, I believe this will end up like Tequatl: as the population learns what they need to do, it will become almost as trivial as Tequatl now is.

There’s 2 major issues with the TD meta:

1. The timer on the event, there is no in game timer till the meta starts, and people have to rely on third party websites to find out when the meta will start, because people don’t want to sit around for 2 hours on a T4 map just waiting.

My suggestion? Make the meta progress based on lane progression rather than a 2 hour timer. When you progress the meta to T4, it starts the king of the jungle event. You trigger the garent, defeat it, or fail, and then the event won’t start again for the rest of the original 2 hour timer, with the timer being in game.

2. The breakbar mechanic for the fight. The entire rest of HoT trains you to break breakbars in order to gain a burn phase on the boss. This is the one exception which makes it extremely counterintuitive and in a big PuG, which is what this map is, you can’t rely on everyone being in voice communication, or even paying attention to chat, whispers, says, anything. That one person burning through the breakbar despite you begging them not to because it screws it up, ruins the fight for 100 or more other people. It shouldn’t come down to that because we can’t expel people from the map. Just think of how many rangers play this game facerolling their longbow bar and using their knockback off cooldown. Relying on a counterintuitive mechanic like the Garent breakbar is bad design.

Player’s mistake can be fixed.
In-game design that supposedly to give you advantage but in reality makes it harder, which you have absolutely no control of is not tolerable.

Seriously, SCAR NEED to be fixed. Remove the cannon or makes it does something else.

Or rework Gerent entirely, makes it like legendary vinetooth, which you’re rewarded for breaking bar, and put Gerent in vulnerable position for a period of time.

Non sensual horrible design is the root of the whole TD meta problem. Dps is not remotely the issue here. The entire design is flawed.

The point is it’s counterintuitive. it’d be like anet making a fight where if you stand there and take a telegraphed attack it barely tickles you, but if you dodge/block/go invuln you get one shot killed instantly… after the entire game has trained you to dodge everything or you get one shot by bosses.

To have something be completely counterintuitive like that should only happen in instanced content where you can control who is in the instance. It should never be like that for open map content.

I agree.

I understand it’s an mmo and things like this sometimes rightly so are long-term goals. But on the other hand GW2 was never ever marketed to be this way. The grind for these things is abhorrent at the moment, and when you add the unreliability of the client (crashes are still common in Dragon’s Stand), and the rush rush rush mechanic that the developers have put in place with everything being on a timer, even after you’ve slain the Mouth of Mordremoth… It just seems all a little childish.

The game is to be enjoyed, not rushed through. We’re on timers and deadlines with work all day, the last thing we need is a whole new set shoved in our faces whilst we’re enjoying our relaxation. I think development might be loosing sight of what GW2 is: a computer game.

It honestly feels like the developers may have designed great content to start with, then put all these extra hoops in place for us to continually jump through before being able to actually achieve anything.

Complete the entire meta event, open all the pods, and get lucky with the ore you find within and you still can’t even buy one significant reward from the merchant. In-fact you don’t even have time to buy the reward, as the map closes and kicks everyone out. That is an effort/reward system that misses the mark entirely.

Yeah the overall map design for rewards is appalling. That you buy a plated part, unlock the collection, and have to COME BACK AND DO THE MAP AGAIN to get your machined part for that collection just screams that some dev absolutely hates the playerbase and wants to screw with them as much as possible. It’d be nice to have the vendors available at the start of the map rather than only at the end, so that you could basically get your reward for running the map (and no random greens or whatever don’t really count) in one run rather than requiring bare minimum 2 runs to get anything, and that’s if you even get enough ore in that 1 run to buy something.

Combine that with the Lord of the Flies esque deconstruction of “the friendliest MMO community” that is the loot phase, with it’s champion mobs singling out hapless individuals to one shot and nobody will bother ressing or helping them, that either indicates that the designer had intentions that we’d kill those champ mobs together as groups but has a severely lacking understanding in human behavior when you have a loot rush with a time limit.., or said designer is intentionally sadistic and wanted to see players hate each others guts and be as selfish as possible “just this once” or just plain hates the playerbase.

I’m dying to know which is the case honestly.

Hi,

I’m doing ds events for some time now to get this rune. By now I’m at about 150 crystalline ores.
Aint 600 ores a very very very little bit to much for sth like a runeset? If it’s a recipe ok, but for runes…
Apart from “farming” the hot-story, where you get 40 in the end, the only way by now is to open pods at dragons stand map. Apart from ~6, they only spawn after map event is completed. This means you need to wait up to one hour to get on a map doing events/ got enought time to start new map, then need about one to 1.5 hours to hopefully finish (seen so many fails last days) it. Now you got a 15min race to find and open all pods. Without a ton of luck this leads to 40 to 50 ores.
So all in all you need to do 15 times the story with different characters, or do 13 times success on ds meta event (without dc!!!). For ds thats best case two days without break dc or fail doing this event. Just for runes…
If they just were buyable, but….

40-50 ores a run considered not a ton of luck? I usually walk out of a run with less than 20 ores. I only get 1 per pod almost always.

It would take me about 7 cleared maps per rune to get these runes. So I gave up on getting them for my mesmer which was the original intent.

40-50 a map not lucky.. man.. You’d be thinking you were outright cursed if you were getting under 20 a map I guess.

No, they’re inherently bad because they limit build choices. You can’t successfuly beat enrage timers with anything but a heavy amount of glass cannon dps.

And that’s your opinion, but not mine.

TBH honest, i’m not a fan of straight overall timer for the boss, but I’m a very big fan of dps checks like gorseval fight where you need to dps him enough before he does it’s big attack twice in a phase.

Have the humility to understand that other people like other kind of stuff than you. Some people wanted that kind of stuff for raids and I’m aware that it’s not something that everybody like.

I don’t like everything in the game, but I’m able to understand that other people might love it that way and it’s cool with me.

Timers are a really boring mechanic because it says “my way or the highway” I mean you can learn the strategy, and execute the mechanics flawlessly but still fail just due to a gear check. When the only difference between success and failure is gear? That’s a boring mechanic.

I’m SLIGHTLY less critical about forcing a really narrow spectrum of gear stats in an instanced raid but it doesn’t belong in open world events at all. Open world events are a large PUG where you really have no control over what people on the map are wearing. I say as long as you can organize people to execute the strategy you should be able to complete open world events, rather than requiring a gear check for an open world PUG.

The only way to try to enforce what people are wearing in an open world event is to be a part of a massive guild like TTS where they can spam maps until they find one that is completely empty, and then fill it with nothing but their guild, but 99% of the guilds in game cannot effectively do that. In fact, TTS can’t even really do that entirely in guild, there are always PuGs joining and they just give them the teamspeak info. Luckily the triple worms, while requiring a good amount of coordination and each having a strategy that needed to be executed, had a timer generous enough that it didn’t have any real gear requirements (though a condi geared team did help), it actually sort of helped that for most of the boss you could not crit, so you didn’t need zerker, and the fight was balanced around dps not being able to crit.

You can crit Chak Garent, and therefore, everyone being in optimal dps gear (zerker/sinister/viper) is paramount, because the fight is tuned assuming that everyone in the lane is in optimal dps gear, and the timer is fairly tight. Organization and strategy isn’t enough, having enough people in optimal DPS gear is necessary., but a gear check on an open world map that anyone could join? Not cool.

Well all they have to do is increase the timer and make the boss do more undodgeable 1 hit KO attacks to anyone who has less than 1500 toughness. Now you can wear all the tanky gear you want but will still face the pressure with the lower Dps even after they extended the timer. Would you have any problems with that? Well I think you would because it would exactly be the same as if you were in zerkers gear now. Let’s face it, people complaining aren’t complaining because they have to be in zerkers, they are complaining because they can’t beat the raid. Difficulty is difficulty, whether you are in zerkers or nomads the boss can be scaled to make it difficult, it’s not the gear you guys have a problem with its your skill lvl. If the boss was changed to do 5 times more dmg, you can wear nomads but you’ll still probably die.

At the end of the day even if Anet nerfed raids and maybe made other armor stats required, it won’t affect the people now who have currently cleared raids or are still trying. The people who are not complaining now will always be able to clear content no matter what changes happen to them. But Guess what? The people who are complaining now will still be complaining after Anet changes raids. As Long as you are unable to beat the raid you will find some form of excuse to try to blame Anet. I Guess it’s just your personality, it has nothing to do with gear, skill lvl, or ‘elitism’. At the end of the day the problem will be your unwillingness to adapt, to try, to put in effort to get what you want. At the end of the day you just want things handed to you or catered to your exact skill lvl.

People saying ‘elitist’ are bad people should really question themselves. So far many good players I meet who asks for gear checks or food checks are friendly people who talk laugh and have fun at what they are doing. No matter what the content be it hard, easy, exploitable, or impossible atm they always have fun and try to win it. The bad people IMO are the ones complaining, the ones who assumes everyone shares the same opinion as them, the ones who want every single content developed to cater to their exact skill lvl as if they were the only ones who payed for the game. If you take a step back and look, ‘elitist’ don’t really care what content they get, they just try their best. Some ‘elitist’ might be egoistic and rude but that’s like only the minority. asking for food checks and gear checks doesn’t make you a bad person, it makes you a good leader. Have you ever thought maybe ‘elitist’ squad leaders don’t want to waste their members time so they ask for such requirements? 9 times an hour is 9 hours of collective game time. Just take a step back think about what I just said.

The bosses already do one shot mechanics on anything except warriors and necromancers, scaled up high enough a world boss will even 1 shot those on every hit.

My complaint is that people opt to wear different gear setups not everyone has optimal dps gear. I do, but I can’t do enough dps to carry 4 other people’s lack of DPS. The fact that they feel the need to wear tankier gear to survive means that they scale up the mob’s health and damage more than they contribute to helping kill it when there’s a dps race timer involved.

While some people would say “well just have everyone wear optimized dps gear if they want to complete the content”, that’s infeasible because I cannot go around and force everyone to wear optimal dps gear and have optimal builds. You have to deal with the fact that in a map wide pug there will be a lot of less than optimal dps builds and gear and that’s what you have to take down a boss with a tight timer with. It doesn’t work very well.

I’d prefer the timer be looser on Garent to be rational about the fact that this is a PuG, and there will be a ton of people in non optimized gear so DPS will be slower.

There’s also other mechanics on the Garent meta event that are just in need of change, such as the fact that the entire expansion trains you to break breakbars to give moments of high vulnerability/burn phases in world bosses and champion fights…. except this one, if you burn his break bar he charges away, which ultimately slows down the fight and makes it harder to make the timer.

You can try to tell people in map chat not to use CC, but like I said, the entire expansion trains you to use CC to break a breakbar any time you see one up. To have this be an exception is unintuitive, and in a giant PuG, it just doesn’t fly.

Every other map, the instructions on what to do are clear and intuitive. TD it’s not, that’s why it’s relatively common to find maps doing T4 Brink all Champions, T4 AB, and successful Dragon’s Stands…. but TD almost never gets successfully completed, because it has a very tight timer on the boss requiring optimized dps gear, no in game timer for the entire meta (requiring people to use a third party site if they want to know when the meta will start), and unintuitive break bar mechanics

It’s kind of amusing that you can’t see the irony in this. ANet built GW2 on the philosophy of “play how you want to play”. But, your statement screams “you can’t play your way, because you must play my way.”

What irony? People are free to play how and with who they want. If someone want to play with people with the best gear and build possible, he can ask it. And if someone don’t want to play with those people, he can group up with other people. Everybody is free to play with who they want.

The problem is that even if there is a LOT of those kind of post (like one a day sometime). Still people have a hard time finding themselves a group with like minded people to play with. Well apparently since they still post this kind of topic. I guess that if they had an easy time getting a group, they wouldn’t post that.

But that’s an never ending QQing imo. People QQ because people all want zerker. Condition become good. People still QQ about it beserker. Now tanky gear, healing, zerker and condition are all good in raid, People still QQ about zerker.

No, fault is definitely the word to use here. Enrage timers/dps checks really aren’t all that fun and I don’t find myself asking for more of them.

And other people are ok with enrage timers/dps checks and find them fun and find themselves asking for more. It’s a design choice. It’s not bad or good, it’s just one choice available to Anet and they choose this one. Of course some people won’t like and other will like. It’s not objectively a bad design, but subjectively people will find it good or bad.

That isn’t Anet’s fault. That’s players enforcing those rules (and the 15k AP requirement is LOL).

It was obvious from the start that once someone found a successful raid comp, everyone would start copying it and trying to enforce it. This was a given.

As for the TD meta, there was a guild helping with the meta last night I believe, people in my guild were talking about it. Its probably the hardest meta in the game at the moment, and people needed to learn it in order to beat it. I’m hoping the guilds that help get more pugs in to learn it will spread and it gets completed more.

It is anet’s fault. They put in timers on both raid content and world bosses, if you’re not pushing the envelope on DPS, you’re not going to make the timer on Garent or any of the raid bosses. In these 2 specific cases, it is anet’s fault.

I think that perhaps “fault” isn’t the right word here. That’s Anet’s design. To say it’s Anet’s “fault” is like me saying it’s my mother’s “fault” that her chili is so good — and that I want to eat lots of it.

No, fault is definitely the word to use here. Enrage timers/dps checks really aren’t all that fun and I don’t find myself asking for more of them.

Let me explain this a bit more.

See, before boss timers became a thing in GW2, in like, dungeons, while yes, people did run a berserker speedrun meta, it was perfectly possible to form your own group and play your way, my guild has run 5 clerics minion master necromancers through Arah explorable for instance. It takes longer.. but you can do it.

With timers? That kind of “play your way” is out of the question. You either build your team for efficient DPS to beat the timer, or you fail.

Without the timer? You could build more tanky and focus on surviving and doing the mechanics correctly, while whittling the boss down.

With the timer? you need sinister or berserker’s dps for almost the entire raid, with only the chronomancer, healer, and tank (if neither the healer nor chronomancer is the tank themselves) being possible exceptions.

In content without timers? Yeah, it’s player behavior wanting to do things faster yeah, perhaps that’s the biggest reason, but anet is still partly at fault for the way the game works fundamentally.

In Most MMO’s your base survivability goes up as you get better gear, now, you can spec to get even more survivability, or spec for more damage, but wearing the top tier of gear still means you have more health, more armor, etc, and often a class’s primary stat will somehow augment their survivability, agility helps rogues dodge in WoW, might helps a champion parry in LotRO. As a result, if you’re well geared, you can survive the incoming damage provided you get some Heal over Times or area heals, and aren’t the primary target, and avoid a few one shot mechanics like red circles and stand behind the boss to avoid frontal cleaves.

GW2, your base survivability stays at the base level unless you gear for more survivability specifically, at the cost of losing damage, yes you can go PVT armor and have double survivability, but end up losing like 2/3 of your damage because you have a 4% crit rate and 150% crit damage only, and in this game when bosses are scaled high enough, every single hit is a one shot mechanic, even if you build full toughness and vit, you’re at most going to survive 2 hits and die on the third if you face tank a boss., so it’s just not worth it. It’s better to avoid damage than build to absorb it.

A big reason for why everyone is so squishy in this game, is the downed mechanic. You might say because it has active dodging and blocking, but there are several other MMO’s that also have dodging and blocking and yet none of them have your character as squishy as GW2. In TERA you can build your dps class full dps no survivability, and still never get one shot by anything, even the biggest telegraphed hits are survivable and your healer can keep you up. In TESO it’s similar, there’s some big hits, but nothing will one shot a light armor magicka dps glass cannon build (outside of PVP), you can survive and be healed up. But those games don’t have a status that is in between being alive and being dead, that you can be quickly ressed out of in combat by anyone (or if left alone long enough, rally yourself, either by killing something or bandaging). That is the mechanic at fault. Downed. If as soon as you ran out of HP you died completely, a lot of the game’s mechanics and how squishy you were wouldn’t really seem fair to most players, and we wouldn’t be as squishy, you’d need to be able to heal through the damage.

But because a single attack does not kill you, it “only” downs you, you can theoretically get brought back to your feet and keep fighting, it’s no worse than being stunned, theoretically.

Now that theory goes out the window when your class cannot move while downed and you get downed in a powerful aoe like a wyvern fire trail during mouth of mordremoth, or downed right on top of a seeker orb, you will die, even if someone tries to help you up you will die so fast you don’t have a chance to get up, even if they try to warbanner you up, you will die before the cast finishes.. but hey! Theoretically you weren’t one shot!

Downed ruins every single mode of play in this game, and really doesn’t add anything fun except “no other game has it”

So tl;dr, it is Anet’s fault because of boss timers and the downed status.

Hate to say it, but get used to it. Anet has found a new way to gouge people for money. Take an item people really weant, and then bundle it with a bunch of crap items, and triple the price.

Makes me ill that they tied the immortal set in with this. Reddit is right, it’ll cost hundreds of dollars (if you don’t have the gold to convert) in order to purchase the entire immortal weapon set if they continue this path. It screams “money grab”.

It kinda doesn’t make sense to me, to sell something for a higher price to fewer people rather than sell at a more reasonable amount to a lot more people.

But I guess their rationale is that if they sell at a more reasonable price and sell items separately, people will convert gold to gems to buy what they want, but if they sell a bulk package like this, while less people will buy the item, those that do will be more likely to pay cash for gems.

Only explanation of how narrowing your market would reap more profits.

making all the items bundle exclusive is one of the worst things the store people at anet have done. Missing out on a lot of people who would purchase one part of the bundles but don’t want to buy the whole thing.

For record I bought the exalted glider as soon as it hit the store and I could log on, most the time, I buy gems with cash too.

But I won’t buy gems, not even with gold, to purchase a bundle just for one item worth about 500 gems in a bundle that costs 2000 gems I mean… keep the bundle if you want as a value pack I’m sure people who want all those things will buy it, and save money over buying each individual thing they want a la carte, but for those of us who just want one thing out of the bundle? Mouth of Mord: Wyvern Telegraph?

Is there an effective telegraph for the wyvern flybys? On classes that can’t move after being downed I die to this attack at least 3x a fight with mouth of Mordremoth.. I can’t really pan in a way that allows me to see them fly in from all angles, there’s no shadow or aoe indicator on the ground to warn of the attack, nothing very effectively visually at least, the closest I can guess is that they make a sound when they fly over… problem is.. for me (and I’m sure for a lot of other people I see get one shot by the wyvern, I have yet to see someone pre-emptively dodge a wyvern flyby), the sound plays AFTER the fire is already on the ground, making it an ineffective telegraph.

Please tell me there’s something better than the mistimed sound.

Please please please. The current iteration of LFG is a mess in the “open world” section. From people who don’t understand that “open world” doesn’t mean “dungeon or fractal groups”, to people looking for a variety of different map meta events (which balooned from just Cursed Shore, FGS, Dry Top, and SIlverwastes to all those plus VB, AB, TD, and DS), to now people searching for raid members

First off, add a raid section.

Second, split open world into Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, Dragon’s Stand, Silverwastes, and Central Tyria: General or something.

The easier it is to find groups for the content we need the better. The challenge should be the content not the mess of a UI.

Tempest seems pretty bad for the Vale Guardian encounter, but really strong for the Gorseval encounter. What this means is that to fully utilize Ele, it’s best to keep it as an alt for certain encounters where there are big enemies that don’t move much, and then swap to another class for encounters where the enemies have smaller hitboxes and move around more.

Furthermore, if you find if you are struggling to stay alive on Ele, it’s probably best to just not play it, honestly.

Let’s be clear by struggle I don’t mean “always dying” I mean constantly having to switch away from fire and use heals, which lowers your damage.

I could survive, I just couldn’t maximize my damage while doing it.

Ele DPS in Raids: Worth it?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

Now at least prior to HoT, zerker staff ele dps was part of the dungeon meta, consistently among the highest DPS in the game, as dungeon bosses and world bosses could be fairly stationary and take a lot of damage from ground targeted aoes and with enough practice, even as the squishiest class in the squishiest gear in the entire game, you could survive and in fact spend most of the fight over 90% health to get the most benefit out of scholar runes and the water trait

However the raid changes this up, and I only have limited experience with it but the first three trash pulls and first boss had pulsing aoe damage around them from a distance that you couldn’t just stand outside of and still do damage (so you were constantly eating damage, negating the value of scholar runes and the aquamancer trait if you didn’t switch over to tempest), and because you’re ranged and have lightning flash, your raid expects you to be among the 5 people who absorb the distributed magic damage, which even with 4+ people in the circle hits an ele for near half their base health (which if you’re going zerk, that’s also pretty much your total health) which can’t really be mitigated as well. If things went bad and a seeker was in the circle or the circle managed to be in the wrong floor panel, it was wholly unsurvivable. If things were going well, I would still get very low and have to hope the druid was right there with his heals. Even with those druid heals I found myself needing to switch to water frequently to keep myself alive, which lowered my dps, as well as the boss frequently moving around, which lowered dps as well.

I mean, I know it’s POSSIBLE to be a dps ele/tempest in the raid, but I have to wonder if it is worth struggling to stay alive and lowering dps (gearing for more health/toughness would also hit dps so that’s not really of any particular value), instead of say, going on my zerker geared Herald who can keep party fury and might up just as much as I could with my fire fields (in fact better as staff ele doesn’t have as many blast finishers to work with to consistently keep 12 stacks of might up), has just as good of breakbar (again, probably better) utility, is naturally more survivable just from having higher armor and higher base health pool, is just as good of DPS at least on 1 target, and the only thing I really sacrifice is aoe, which so far in the raid, has not come up as something we need.

Is the raid past the first boss more aoe intensive where an ele/tempest would be more worthwhile? Or should I just go burnzerker or zerker herald and not have to deal with the struggle to survive
