Why Map Content Doesn't Last...

Let’s see.
In Core Tyria there are loads of players still playing in Dry Top and Silverwastes. World Bosses still attract loads of players, even the lower level ones, like Shadow Behemoth or the Fire Elemental.
All 4 Heart of Thorns maps have loads of maps filled doing the meta events and other regular events every day.
LS3 maps all have a healthy population of players.

How do you figure that map content doesn’t last? Because I think most maps have already passed the test of time.

The secret is that maps with meta events survive and continue to attract people where maps without big meta events/world bosses kind of die out, and some of the LS3 maps don’t have any meta events or big world bosses.

I am however, still waiting a week on for a policy statement regarding a legally grey area though, I mean, I understand, it IS a tough question, Gaile Grey couldn’t answer it and deferred to customer support. It’s not even something Im looking to do myself but I did have a friend who had a name with a reference to smoking weed in it, which at the time was illegal in every state in the country outside of medical use, so it was a reference to illegal activity, which is against the game’s naming rules. However now it’s legal in Washington where Anet is based and several other states, and even some countries, so it becomes a grey area. I’m curious, so I’m asking them.. no response yet, but I understand

There is one good thing about the LS3 maps not being big meta events like all the HoT maps and Silverwastes.. and that is there is no “fail maps”.

Totally agree with this, I think it deserves extra attention. I have personally been very lucky with DS meta in particular, as I’ve completed it on all but 2 attempts. One of those attempts was just undermanned, and the mid team was just awful. The second failure involves not being able to taxi into a full map, which is not really a failure, just prevented me that particular day from notching my own goal. I think every single other map-wide meta I joined that made a serious attempt to clear, cleared for me.

Despite my own luck, I’ve heard from many other players I’ve run into online and the forums here (yes yes, I know it’s a very limited sample size) who have had much worse fortune in completing DS or other metas. I really like GW2’s “jump in and play” style, and I feel like the failure-prone HoT metas were a slight departure from that. The price of returning to a more casual event style would of course be less connected/complex/rewarding meta chains that may not even have map-wide consequences.

I’ll be happy so long as the other metas remain reasonably populated, such that those of us who still revisit them have a reasonable chance of running into a map that can clear it.

I don’t have that kind of luck. Unless I jump in at the exact start of a DS cycle, I end up on an empty map with 0 progress and not enough people to even push 1 lane, and the maps in LFG are already full. So it’s pointless to even try unless you plan out 15 minutes before reset. It’s not a very fun map for that reason. It would be if mega server wasn’t a thing maybe as long as you weren’t on a dead server. But the current way with you being unable to select a map and having to try taxiing in via LFG.. complete waste of time if you weren’t lucky enough to get in one of the 1 or 2 maps that will actually have the people to do the event.

The other day I did something dumb in game. On a wing and a prayer, I opened a support ticket with Anet in hopes they could fix it. Here is what I sent them:

Today I was ripping through salvaging all the rares I got from the LD leather farm (20+, nice haul). I accidentally salvaged Howl. I knew what it was, was excited when it dropped, but was between farm runs and was in a hurry getting rid of loot and just clicked on Howl before I could stop myself. sigh… If there’s nothing that can be done, I certainly understand. But, I sure was hoping maybe there was something you guys could do to help me get it back, like maybe a log you can look at to see I really did do something that dumb. Been wanting that for my Reaper main for a while, and… GAH! Thanks, guys..

I got this in response:

We are human and mistakes happen.
As a one time courtesy we’ve gone ahead and sent the Howl Warhorn to your account.
You should see the item the next time you log in.
Regards,
GM Ether Nether

Since I’ve been know to complain about Anet when they make decisions I disagree with, it’s only fair to point out when they go above and beyond. Which, in my opinion, is what they did here. So, folks at Anet, thanks very much for understanding that… things happen. I really appreciate it.

Anet support’s been really good when I’ve had issues like this, like I accidentally picked the wrong ascended accessory for guild commendations. Most MMO supports would have told me to just wait till the next 2 weeks when I could get another one and just not make the same mistake, Anet exchanged it for me.

Hell LotRO’s customer support’s SOP is to wait until you log off, wait 5 more minutes to see if you log back in, THEN answer your ticket with “well we can’t help you because you’re not online’, please try again later” and then closes your ticket.

So compared to the rest of the competition out there, anet’s customer support has been above and beyond.

My issue, moreso with older maps is that with level 80 tokens now if I use one on my toon, what reason do I have to go back and go through the pre expansion maps? If I go into Caledon Forest with my level 80 necro, which has been lowered to the map level, and I finish it, what is my reward? Level 14 crap. Useless. If reward=level then suddenly I have a reason to go back and do older maps. A reason to complete older maps.

Well, those map completion rewards were designed for people leveling up through map completion, you’re not going to get anet encouraging people not to map complete until they’re 80 and hand them exotics for every zone, that’d be just stupid and screw over the people who are NOT boosting to 80, or people who already did it in the past. There’s other reasons for map completion anyway. Gifts of exploration, transmutation charges and possibly keys,

There is one good thing about the LS3 maps not being big meta events like all the HoT maps and Silverwastes.. and that is there is no “fail maps”. If you jump straight into the silverwastes or Dragon’s Stand, chances are you’re going to be on a near empty map with no progress on the meta event and will likely never get anywhere with as few people on the map as there are. the DS map, being timed will just fail. There’s just no point in being on those maps (I guess you could do the JP in an empty silverwastes?

So for maps like that you have to deal with the janky LFG system looking for squads to taxi in on, since anet won’t let us choose a map “district” with their mega server system. We just get whatever map we get and if it’s a failure, we have to hope there’s a taxi in a not full map that’s actually going to progress. AB, TD, and VB I guess you can map complete on in the time between metas but there’s still maybe 1 or 2 maps at a time that will get anything done.

LS3 maps you can get in on and since it’s not meta event driven you can actually hope to do something in the map, organize a half dozen people to kill champs for group events and the like.

If every map were like the Silverwastes. that’d be frustrating. You’d just have to spam for taxis everywhere you went.

[Suggestion] QOL: Multiple mystic forging

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Devildoc.6721

This suggestion comes up at least once a week, so you’re not alone in wanting it.

There are a couple of reasons why it hasn’t happened yet, the primary being that there are economic implications if it becomes a lot easier — some things are profitable precisely because of how dull/repetitive they are. (This doesn’t mean ANet shouldn’t do this; it just means they have to be ready to deal with the side effects first, and those are a lot harder to figure out).

Another reason is that ANet has tried to leave the crafting station as the tool for repetitive “manufacturing” and the forge for random, legendary, and one-off changes.

So my hope is that, after dealing with the market challenges, they move all fixed promotions to the crafting stations and change basic/fine mat promotions so that they aren’t random (and move them to crafting, too).

That leaves the forge for random stuff, legendaries, stat changing, and all that one-off stuff. So in the end, they won’t need to update the forge UI, because repetition will move to crafting.

You still need to deal with it for things you can’t just buy though like mystic clovers.

It’d be nice to be able to mystic forge the same recipe repeatedly for upgrading crafting materials and the like. Using the forge to upgrade from cores to lodestones is more economical, but it certainly isn’t fun to do.

People who claim otherwise… just aren’t noticing how much alcohol and being drunk are talked about casually.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Devildoc.6721

I like the underwater combat, never bat an eyelash when aquatic fractal comes up… I don’t see why people hate on it so much.

Underwater combat is half done.
You have if you’re lucky 2 weapon choices (makes swapping pointless) that have no synergy with your terrestrial traits/build.
Your skills if you’re lucky are limited to about 40% and in some cases that 40% is utter garbage and has no reason to be locked out other than because they can.
All of this is before even mentioning the junk deal that is aqua breathers. The most significantly overpriced portion of the content if you want desired stats since you’ll always be at 5/6 runeslots without one.

Underwater combat is bad and needs a metric ton of fixes for the above alone.

Aquabreathers shouldn’t even be a separate armor item, it should just use your normal headgear’s stats and rune, it’s just a convenient deus ex machina for why we don’t have an oxygen meter, which was initially what was so exciting about how anet was going to do underwater combat, we’d be able to swim indefinitely under water and explore a lot of cool things, underwater ruins, underwater puzzles, fund sunken ships, treasure chests, etc. All that is cool stuff, but having to buy another helmet (and for a long time our choices on breathing devices was limited to karma vendors so we couldn’t even get a level 80 one), another rune, and then having skills locked out and doing less damage, with the underwater weapons not really supporting your build (IE I find that trident is often condi focused and spear is often power focused.. if you’re a condi build but a class that can’t use trident your damage will suffer. If you’re a power build but your class can ONLY use trident, your damage will suffer.)

Having Aquabreathers be cosmetic only would improve underwater combat.

Having all classes be able to use all underwater weapons would also improve underwater combat.

Actually, it’s a good question because of the legal status of being “stoned”. In some states its legal, including the one Arenanet is based out of, and do you really expect us to believe some anet developers haven’t been stoned in the last week, buying from a legal dispensary? I had a friend initially whose name was a spoonerism for smoking weed, and they did temp ban and force a rename on him on the account of it being a reference to illegal drug use, but at the time, Washington had not legalized it yet. This was within a month of launch (even though he’d had the name in GW1 without a problem or complaint for years), and they didn’t vote on it for another few months after that.

Now that Washington has legalized it, and anet is based out of Washington that makes it more of a grey area, are we going by which set of laws? What’s legal at Anet’s locality? What’s legal at the user’s locality? The state law or the federal law? What if the person lives in Uruguay, Spain, South Africa where it’s legal at a nationwide level?

You can’t claim “well until it’s federally legal in every country it’s an illegal activity somewhere”, because it’s perfectly acceptable to name yourself a reference to drinking alcohol, there are entire guilds revolving around being drunk while playing “drunk raiding” “drunk WvW zergs” etc. It’s perfectly acceptable to talk about buying and consuming alcohol and in fact there in game alcohol that your characters can consume. Yet alcohol is illegal in 16 countries, and used to be illegal in several others including the US.

Some more clear statements by Anet would be appreciated. Not just for naming, but even for discussing it in game, which you will find more of and find more socially acceptable as more and more states and countries move to legalize it. Frankly I’m surprised prohibition of it has lasted as long as it has.

How is something that’s not possible for them to change a “double dip?”

Because it sounds like a convenient excuse to continue selling “improved” VIP portal stones even if you already have one the next one is better and they never update the old ones, so they can sell you new ones every few months.

Are they improved? Except for the Mistlock one the rest have basically the same features. Access to convenience in a small area on a map. What, exactly, is the reason you’re buying multiples of these? Are you buying multiple scrolls to avoid the 2-3 silver wp fee to a map by spending 1000 gems (currently about 297 gold)? Are you buying multiples because the last one didn’t have feature X and you’d have to port to another map occasionally and spend portal time and wp fees if you didnt buy it? Because if that’s the reason, seriously, you’re not saving gold or time that way.

No, I haven’t bought multiples (though one comes with the deluxe/ultimate editions of PoF so I do have that one so I guess I have 2 now). Some of them have extra features over the royal terrace like the activities NPC, Dungeon and fractal vendors, etc. The only update they ever added to the royal terrace was the aesthetics NPC that is there to sell you makeover kits. They won’t add fractal or dungeon vendors to the old passes, but they’ll continue to add new conveniences to new passes because they want to double dip you. Whether or not you’re convinced or not and buy more than 1 pass is not the issue, the issue is the attempt to make you buy extras. It’d be nice if anet instead extended out some goodwill to those who purchased earlier passes by updating the royal terrace, airship, noble’s folly, instead of consuming/throwing away goodwill by blatantly trying to double dip customers.

I always found the problem being that for some reason, you do like 1/3 of the damage you do on land while under water, even with ascended breather and ascended underwater weapons (yes I made ascended underwater weapons and even Kraitkin, a legendary), and several skills don’t work. I get that the expansions have had very little underwater content (just some tunnels under Tangled Depths), but a lot of central tyria has substantial amounts of underwater combat. It shouldn’t be abandoned because people dislike it it should be improved until people do like it.

How can anyone possibly think karma is useless? I mean if nothing else you can buy pact network supplies with them. I have just under 4 million karma right now and I’ll be spending a million of it pretty soon. It’s the fastest way to get obby shards if you’re making legendaries. All the minis in the new LS zones require a boatload of karma. If they removed karma from dailies that would suck for me.

Writs of XP don’t really do anything for me, though.

I’m not asking for the Karma to be removed. I conceded there are a few uses for Karma even if you’ve been playing for years, but the xp writs just.. I dunno it feels like they’re useless when the game throws tomes at you like candy.

PVE daily achievement rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

They could use an update. Karma and Writs of XP are basically useless for anyone who’s been playing awhile considering how many tomes of knowledge are thrown at you by this game and you get level 20+ booster scrolls every character’s birthday faster than you can realistically use them (and you’ll never really use them all, I guess on key farm alts but that’s about it.) and then you get free level 80 boosts with every expansion it seems…

The fact that the writs of xp cannot be used to gain xp towards masteries further makes them junk. That should be the first change, otherwise their purpose is basically limited to new accounts that are leveling up new characters and so haven’t gotten bombarded with tomes of knowledge and birthday scrolls yet. 1 spirit shard every 5 days or so from collecting 20 of them is similarly pointless, you get spirit shards en masse everywhere from champ bags and from completing daily achievements and from leveling up past cap once you’re at mastery cap for the region.

Karma is okay I guess at least you can spend that on some things.

But anyway, if you compare them to the PVP and WvW rewards, it’s pretty obvious that the PVP and WvW rewards are favored. The reward track progress potions are good, the shards of glory/memories of battle are required if you want to make legendary weapons, hell WvW chests give you tomes of knowledge, on top of the ones you can get from reward track progress.

I think it’d be comparable to drop the writs of experience and instead replace them with consumables that grant map participation boosts towards map bonuses, since that’s the closest thing to reward tracks that PVE has.

Why did ArenaNet abandon Elder Dragon bosses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

It does seem silly that we go from a Narrative of “we have to destroy the elder dragons because they decimate the planet and destroy civilization every several thousand years” to “we can’t kill any more dragons or the world gets destroyed”

Though I can understand from a gameplay perspective it was becoming impossible to do the Elder Dragons justice, the fight against Zhaitan was disappointing, the fight against Mordremoth seemed like a cheap way out.

The problem is the scale. They describe to us as the Dragons being so large that they can destroy islands with their rise out of the ground and cause floods, but Zhaitan was a lot smaller than his feats would suggest. How do you represent Dragons the size of islands or mountains in this engine? Mordremoth (well the “Mouth of Mordremoth” that we fight is a bit bigger but still smaller than the “entire jungle” that it’s described as).

So while dragon champions make decent world or story bosses, Shatterer, Tequatl, Claw of Jormag, Shadow of the Dragon, Blightghast, etc and make for some “big dragon” encounters, thats about the limit of what this engine can handle, and what we can really handle as puny mortals.

There’s no indication when you go to a map whether or not the bloodstone crazed creature has spawned yet or not, so you could just be grinding mobs in vain for half an hour. The detector… the indicators get clipped by terrain, are too small to see from a distance but if you zoom in they’re out of peripheral vision… it’s just a mess.

At one time while I was trying to ride the Leyline up to get out of the crater they just kept on pelting me with rocks until I hit downed state and fell all the way back to the floor.

Apparently the Stealth Gliding is borderline useless most of the time as well as they just keep throwing these homing rock-missiles at you.

PVE daily rewards vs WvW and PVP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

Is it me or could PVE daily rewards use a bit of an update? For a lot of people their characters are already 80, so writs of xp aren’t that good, not to mention you need 20 of them to make a tome, and you can get tomes faster and easier through both PVP and WvW reward tracks anway. Spirit shards don’t really have a dump unless you’re making legendary weapons so there’s really no point in consuming tomes for those (not when you get them from all kinds of other sources on the side), and for karma? There’s really nothing worth getting from Karma at this point except mass buying cheap armor pieces to throw into the the forge to get salvagable armor pieces for crafting mats (because you can’t salvage anything you buy with Karma themselves)

So when dailies pop up for me I pretty much ignore the PVE daily achievements even though I mostly play PVE and would prefer not to play PVP.. the rewards from PVP and WvW are just more worth it.

All my characters that I want at 80 are 80, so in order to use PVE daily “rewards” I’d have to spend money to buy another character slot. Not much of a reward if you have to spend money to claim it. Sounds more like a Nigerian prince lottery reward.

"Enrichment" slot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Devildoc.6721

Forged a +5power +5AR (which is converted to +7power +7AR now) last month so I literally wasted 60g it seems, because now you can simply buy these very cheap at the new fractal vendor. FML.

Anyway, so which enrichment is currently the best one to buy? I assume the +20 Magic find?

5 Power/7 AR cost around 45g-48g worth of stabilizing matrices. It is cheaper but not a 60g difference.

basically if you don’t do fractals, the changes to simplify the slots are great, you can slot in more wvw infusions for more stats and more damage/damage reduction against WvW camp supervisors/tower bosses as you wish.

But if you do fractals, you just lost some AR.

That is also not entirely true. A character with full ascended get an additional 13 slots that can get an additional two or more AR. So that is maybe -15 and +26 with a net gain of +11.

What extra slots? You had available before this patch 6 armor slots, 2 weapon slots, 1-2 back slots, 2 accessory slots, 1 amulet slot, and 2-6 ring slots. A total of 19 slots.

Now you get 18 because the amulet slot is lost.

basically if you don’t do fractals, the changes to simplify the slots are great, you can slot in more wvw infusions for more stats and more damage/damage reduction against WvW camp supervisors/tower bosses as you wish.

But if you do fractals, you just lost some AR.

But leaving the CD reduction traits would not affect all other skills and all other builds of the elementalist as clearly intended, or did you miss the part of “issues with both offense and defense game-wide”.

Clearly the devs saw that everything about the elementalist was OP so it needed a massive buff.

Just slot the new Tornando and feel the power – guess that is the idea.

You mean the “hey I’m the class with the lowest armor and lowest healthpool and now I’ve turned myself into a form where I can’t use my defensive utilities and I’m a huge freaking target” yeah no.

Renown Hearts/Hero challenges/Daily System

There’s no reason why they have to be boring or a grind, especially if additional tiers were added. They could be more stimulating content for higher level players.

They are boring. Stationary chores are not fun, and they don’t belong in GW2.

Renown Hearts/Hero challenges/Daily System

The point is hearts were not a part of the original vision Arenanet had for Guild Wars 2. In fact they go against that original vision. They were added late in development as a compromise/training wheels for people who couldn’t grasp how to explore on their own and find events.

We don’t need them anymore, and adding to them in any way, reinforcing them as a system in the game by making them repeatables or dailies or whatever, would encourage making more hearts in future zones, something I really don’t want to see, they make world completion a hassle as it is. Instead of just exploring and finding things in the zone you have to grind in a circle or stealth up to flags or some other boring chore.

I’m not missing them in Maguuma areas.

Although I do like that in Maguuma areas the combat oriented hero points are repeatable and give rewards that encourage people helping out on them.

But if I had any say in the matter, no more hearts, ever, and if I had more say, I’d remove hearts from all zones over level 25. Ideally, we wouldn’t need them in any zones but if people need training wheels for the first zone or 2, whatever. It was an unfortunate compromise that had to be made because everquest and WoW had trained people into looking for NPC’s with symbols over their heads to tell them what to do.

I think a set of static quest (aka hearts) is healthy for the game. A bunch of them are really really dumb, I agree, but I enjoyed them anyway. There is no reason why they couldn’t co-exist with the more serendipituous dynamic events.

with the exception of your main story quests.. this game isn’t meant to have quests. It was designed entirely around the dynamic event system instead. Hearts go against that philosophy and never should have been a part of the game. GW2 was supposed to be about a living dynamic world, not static quests.

Some things should not be dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

First real complaint about the game since returning in November. Dailies are the thing that keep me going into the game. I think I’ve finished my daily every day since I came back in November except while traveling for holidays. But today’s are too much. The jumping puzzle, even with a helpful in-person guide (thank you for those who volunteer to do this), was undoable. It didn’t help that my pet popped back out every time I fell. The camera angles in the puzzles in the narrow cavern tunnels are impossible enough without my pet (which I can’t stow permanently) blocking my view.

So we thought, ok, np. We won’t do the JP today. So we decided to check out the daily activity participation. We look up on the wiki which tells us it’s crab toss. We go to southsun and look for the NPC for 30 minutes. No luck. We go to LA and talk to that activity participation NPC just in case. No luck. What a waste of an hour between the two. I had had enough and just logged out without doing anything else.

Super hard puzzles should not be dailies. If activity participation is a daily, it must WORK.

daily activity is in Lion’s Arch, there’s an NPC that you talk to to join in on the minigame. It works.

I don’t do pve dailies anymore because the PVP and WvW dailies give something more useful than the PVE dailies. The PVE dailies give karma and those xp scraps which can’t be used for mastery xp. They’re worthless to someone with all level 80’s and a stack of xp tomes sitting in the bank.

Daily Jumping Puzzle is fine, and was actually a daily category that was needed, you just need to git gud.

The real problem is that when they restructured dailies they left us with less choices. Instead of daily event completer where you could complete 5 events anywhere you wanted, it was restricted to a zone, crowding people into 1 zone trying to zerg around and complete events meant for much smaller groups/solo. I don’t even bother because it’s such a hassle to actually try to get credit, by the time I load in from waypointing the event is completed.

They used to have daily jumping puzzles, but it could be any JP you wanted.. now it’s a specific JP. There used to be 10 daily choices per day (less wvw and pvp choices, but more pve choices).. now instead of 6 options for PVE dailies you have 4. It’d be nice to have 6 options per content type rather than 4.

[Suggestion]Fill old maps with map dailies

The new map rewards system already rewards for completing a few events, and it’s not even a daily, you can keep earning rewards (problem is with many of the low level maps the rewards simply aren’t worth going there for) and there is a daily achievement for vistas of a region already.

  1. you can pre stack swiftness,
  2. you can ride your toy where you want to go using your speedbuff, until it runs out
  3. no combat skills, or other skills fot that matter, as it is a toy, not a mount.
  4. no perma speed boosts from skills as they are disabled, no weapon modifiers as thay are disabled. Just your toy. I’m wondering where traits would fall in….stilll thinking about it…
  5. any perma speed boost on toy = P2W, or at least an unfair advantage. if one person with proffesion A would get a trait based speedbuff fairness woud be lost imho

I’m not asking for an advantage, I’m asking to not have a penalty to use an item I paid for. Right now to use that item, I take a PENALTY to use it. A PENALTY I paid for with real cash.

No thanks. The travel toys are toys, not combat aids. We don’t want to get into that conversation again…

You can only use them outside of combat, so it’s not a combat aid.

Um, that’s his point … if you have swiftness roaming around on these things, they help you AVOID combats you don’t want to be in. Unacceptable.

Perhaps I am missing something here, but he spoke, in the OP, of losing swiftness that he had cast. He seems to be implying that he is referring to a build that includes swiftness on its own not swiftness gained from the travel device itself. So, he can already avoid combats that he doesn’t wan’t to be in, due to his build providing swiftness. The travel toy would just allow him to look different while doing what he can already do with the same opportunity cost he is already paying.

You don’t lose swiftness that’s currently on you but you can’t refresh it. So the result is the same, you have to get off your travel toy in order to cast swiftness again. So basically, having the travel toy auto cast out of combat, is useless, because unless you’re in a town, where you have a permanent swiftness passive from mastery, and there’s no combat anyway, you have to go slow to use your carpet/broom/tunneler.

Toys already provide massive amounts of combat utility. Hiding weapons alone is enough to cause engaging such players to require extra steps of caution or simply not bother engaging them on the basis that I may not have inclinations as to what builds they may be running until it’s too late.

They’re not usable in pvp or wvw.

What are you going to hide your weapons from pve mobs? Okay you go do that. I’m sure that’s very beneficial.

I think some people really need to read about the concept of Opportunity Cost.
Which in this case it is about Exploration vs Combat.
This game call it Perma Swiftness: the choice between a very useful off combat speed boost and a more powerful combat option.

Why do you think the game doesn’t simply offer direct 33% speed boost runes, and instead compels you to incorporate perma-swiftness in your build?

Because this game values Exploration, and give it a wheight through an oportunity cost balance when compared to pure Combat. THIS IS GOOD.

If they at any point introduce a fixed 33% speed boost that doesn’t affect your build, the whole Exploration aspect of it will simply dissapear. Any trait, skill or combination of them that gives you Perma-Swiftness will lose value, and pure Combat meta will bcome even more prevalent. Worst: this new fixed meta will require everyone to take that special boost (In this case, an item-linked, money-linked boost), or be automatically subpar. We already suffer of a lack of variety in builds. This will make it 10 times worst, and trivialize all the amazing Exploration aspect of the game.

That is why mounts, travel items or even runes can’t offer direct 33% speed. Because they dont wan’t you to get an unfair PtW advantage which you will use to skip travel and minmax combat.

My ele sacrifices no combat effectiveness for permanent swiftness. The choice isn’t more effective combat vs faster travel, the choice is between faster travel, and using the item that I paid real money for that makes me go slower.

But still, these are TOYS, bought for GEMS. They can’t give you paid ability to move fast and decide to choose your traitline and skills for pure damage, not sacrificing anything to move as fast as a thief (whose role is to be mobile and quick). If Anet ever decides to do this, I will loose my belief, that they cash shop system is the best out there in the MMO’s, and it will slowly begin to degradate into P2W (from my perspective and assumptions for future gemstore updates).

I can already maintain perma swiftness on foot on most classes.

Right now you’re saying It’s good to pay real money to travel SLOWER than I normally do.

I just want to move at the same speed.

That’s exactly what I said!

The travel toys are toys, not combat aids.

right and them giving an out of combat speed boost of 33% to match swiftness, that disappears as soon as you enter combat because you get taken off the toy, would not make them a combat aid at all.

toys were never meant to be able to apply swiftness. They are just fun alternative modes for walking.

fun alternative modes for normal travel. If my normal travel speed is permanent swiftness, then why not?

I don’t think the OP is asking for travel to be faster than they can normally go on foot, just that any swiftness boons continue to apply on the toys, and for the ability to renew them in the same way that they can on foot. Makes perfect sense to me. I’m surprised you can’t already do that.

Right, on foot my elementalist can sustain permanent swiftness (and that swiftness also works in combat) through using windborne speed, goeh in air attunement, static field, and arcane wave, but, I can’t use those on a travel toy, so I’m stuck at default slow as molasses run speed. It’s not a good choice to make, and makes something that you paid real money for worthless.
