I would like to see new quality content every 3 months, giving enough time for casual people to play that content , even is they only play for 1 or 2 months during that update. This also gives the player time for “normal” play not related to living story. A much more relaxed and enjoyable gaming experience.

Rushing to complete living story before patch day, simply isn’t fun.

My family and Living Story game design.

When Guild Wars 2 first went live it was just amazing, we loved the game and believed we had finally found a truly casual MMO. A game we could play at our own pace, when we wanted to play, and not be left behind when we didn’t play.

Then the Living Story started. Oh dear…

The very concept of temporary content goes against the entire casual game design. So now the game was dictating when we had to play , otherwise we got left behind, as far as game participation. A big block of content that would be gone after 2 to 4 weeks – really? Doing dailies was bad enough, now we have weekly/monthly content.

A true casual MMO would never remove content,(apart from special “holiday” themes, which is understandable. We can plan to play rare time-limited content, just not every month).

So what happened? We stopped playing. We could not keep up with amount of temporary content being pushed at us.

So, if you want casual players in Guild Wars 2, stop removing content. We just can’t play a game that dictates when we play.

Thanks for listening.

To the OP, play a different game. That’s what I did, I’ve been back on Skyrim for the past month and having a blast, and when I want a new adventure I download a mod that adds massive content, and I get to choose what content to install and if it’s no good I remove it!

I still read the forums here to see if anything’s changed to bring me back but threads like this keep me away as it confirms my decision not to play.

Yeah, I am pretty much over these updates. Waiting for the “Next” MMO to come out. Have fun guys, but this game has become something I don’t enjoy.

Mini games are okay, if the rest of the game is also getting new permanent content. The thing is , it isn`t. What bothers me also is all the temporary content, and the living story.
For many players, the most important content is MMORPG based gaming content, not mini-games. Mini games are fluff, distractions, not THE GAME. If I wanted to play mini-games, I would play on social media.

So, if we are going to get more of this type of content in future , we MUST also get permanent MMORPG game content as well. If we don’t, we will end up with a chat room full of mini games.

I love the Guild Wars 2 world, it just seems to be going in the wrong direction.

I am beginning to realize that this is not what most players want. GW2 isn’t really seen as an MMO RPG anymore but just as an MMO game. Be it fluffy Kirby jumping, arcade games, serious esports or storytelling there’s no real priority. It’s pretty much a big bowl of activites and everyone can reach in and grab some stuff. I could imagine that a lot of players like that, the RPGers probably not so much.

Yeah, the worst thing to happen to MMORPGs, is they became mass-market. Even Arenanet states they are aiming for a television episodic style entertainment format. What about game play depth, character build customization, good group content, trade skills that really matter, rare items you could work/quest for (not RNG).

I guess I will always be old-school, in a modern game…

I never liked encounters that have you play a “mini-game” instead of using your characters skills. This goes for all MMOs, not just GW2. I guess it adds some variety, but to me it smacks of “video-game” mechanics, not MMO style game play.

It might sound odd, but I play MMOs because I generally don’t like “Video games”. People call me a gamer, which isn’t true. I am a long time MMO player. There is a difference

GW2 “version” of pay to win: Buying awesome skins for RL money, because the “goal” of GW2 is to look awesome, not to be awesome

It’s up to the player to ignore it or not. I learned to ignore it and just enjoy my game time.

The advantage of no sub for GW2 for my family, is it doesn’t cost us $60 a month to play. (yes we have 4 players in the home).

We don’t play standard F2P MMOs, because of the game breaking restrictions most of those impose

So for us GW2 B2P is perfect with no downside.

Edit: Also you can buy GW2 as a gift, unlike sub based MMOs : Here is a gift ,oh and btw you have to pay $15 a month

Seriously…there is no way to farm as every farm in the game gets removed. (except CoF) and every item takes an enormously long time to get. This game is so slow and grind driven that I’ve begun to miss gear treadmilling. At least something (even if it’s not great) drops in raids. I can’t understand why 50% of the mobs in the game drop NO loot. What a stupid stupid stupid system.

I’ve heard all this chatter about GW2 being best MMO of the year and such. If THIS is the best game then it’s really more of a commentary on the sad state of MMORPGs in the current market.

I’m all for putting the time and playing the game for rewards but at this point, the carrots (ascended gear, legendary weapon) are so far away that I don’t even find them motivating.

Hopefully ArenaNet can do something to fun up this game a little. Would it really be so hard to make playing a little less grindy and a little more rewarding??

If you are grinding in GW2 , then you are playing as if GW2 is a gear based game. It isn’t.
Don’t grind, just play and the rewards will be way better than simply getting loot. If it isn’t fun, then you don’t like the game.

I see this all the time. People still view GW2 as an “old school” MMO. GW2 is about ENTERTAINING the player, not about making them more powerful. This is why we have things like Living Story and temporary content. It is about having fun in a living, changing world. (at 80 you have the whole world to play in, not just high end).

GW2 ,isn’t a theme park MMO.
GW2 isn’t a Sandbox MMO.
GW2 is a Playground MMO. It’s simply about playing for fun.

Traits system or something new? ??? ??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Diva.4706

Diva.4706

I would have preferred a spend your points wherever you want system with no restrictions other than a total amount of points to spend.

Often, with the present system you may want a trait but not the stats or vice versa…

For example recently built a glyth ele but I am forced to have 20 points of precsion to get the glyth traits, when I really want 20 power…

The current trait system cuts down on build diversity…hugely…can’t understand why developers constantly restrict build diversity…instead of it being completely open ended and allowing players to have what they want…

In a word: Balance.

But the one thing about MMOs is they are almost impossible to balance, this is why they restrict choices. I am all for an open skill based MMO. But such a system would cause some players to be more powerful than others, then the weak complain….

For my friends and I, the “Hard” content in GW2 is too hard. Even the new southsun cove story line has us fighting Karka, which we simply hate. We like content that 2 or 3 of us can actually have fun playing, without dieing all the time. If we die all the time, it just makes us not want to play. If we don’t play , we don’t spend money.

Dungeons not for casual fun?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Diva.4706

Diva.4706

I think the problem with GW2 dungeons is that there is no defined role for people to play, and many casual players need that. Dungeons are not too hard for “skilled” players, but true casual players,( they don’t read forums or patch notes, they just log in and play), simply find them not fun, even though these very same players did dungeon/raid content before GW2.

Right Wbborox, I also see myself as “casual” but I play often and do lots of content. It seems that because the no trinity system, many casual players see dungeons as a crazy fight, and die a lot. Result: they stop doing dungeons all together.

So I already did Molten Weapon Facility with my guild, and to be honest it was fun till the end fight, where I was dead for about 80% of the time.

But I digress. Tonight I asked a few friends, who have not finished it, if they wanted to go run it and the response was unanimous : no its too hard, and not fun. This got me thinking, because these same people would run dungeons in our previous MMO all the time, and sometimes even raid. That was an MMO with trinity.

So my question is, are dungeons not for casual “fun” play in Guild Wars 2, and is it because of the no trinity system.

I had issues with Guild wars2 seemingly killing my internet connection. The game would loose connection , as well as my internet going offline. My internet would then come back on after a few seconds. This would happen several times a day, but not effect any other pc running GW2 on the same network.

So I tried assigning my pc a dedicated IP of 192.168.0.9 , which is outside the DHCP pool on my router.

Not had one crash or disconnect in over a week. Time will tell if this was a true fix.

1. Allow us to directly make an item, without having to first make the components, for any recipe that is already discovered.

2. Show the level of the finished item in the recipe list.

3. Show how many of an item you “could” make, based on the amount of components you CAN make.

4. If we are missing an ingredient, (for a recipe that is already discovered), open up the buy option for the item in the TP window, and allow us to buy it and complete the combine.

4. Allow us to collect items from the trade post in the trade skill UI.

This would make a good addition to the enjoyment of trade skill.

Thoughts on rarity and gold.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Diva.4706

Diva.4706

In life we place value on items that are rare, unique or in some way give us a desire to own them. From trading cards to flat screen TVs to virtual items in a video game, these are items many feel a need to own.

This game has items that are very rare. You can play a (very) long time to acquire rare items, or buy gold from ArenaNet, to bypass the time sink. Some argue that this a fair system. People rich in time can find rare item and people rich in money can just buy the same rewards.

There is an issue though, when rarity is actually controlled by the very source of the gold option. If people stop buying gold, the rarity of items can simply be increased, therefor pushing more people to buy gold. The person “rich” in time just became poorer.
What happens when items are so rare, that almost nobody finds them in game, and the cost of ownership is beyond what can be achieved through normal game play? Are we all expected to “virtually shop”, and stop playing the actual game? Does this give a perceived advantage to real life wealth? Is owning items enough of a reward, even if you simply bought them, or is finding them in game the only rewarding way for you?

So, what is the best balance between rarity and gold?

(Footnote: I do support buying gems for added features such as bank space, character slots, etc, as these are one-time fees and do not advance or influence characters progression. These optional purchases are well defined and are not in any way linked to actual game play. A set price for a specific account upgrade.)

There are plenty of Trinity MMOs
ArenaNet chose to not include it as a mechanic. It was a brave move, right or wrong. Many like it this way, some don’t.

Not having Trinity : Anyone can join in and play. No defined “roles” for players, no hand holding on what you are meant to do in a party, it is up to the people present to figure it out. No gear checks.

Down side: The game does not tell you what your job is in a party. Poor boss fight mechanics. No large scale “raids”, just massive zergs.

If the game maintains a high retention of players, then ArenaNet was right. Time will tell.

Because a cash player can be equal simply kills the game for me . It stops being a game where you earn status and rewards, you just buy it. I would like to thank everyone for their comments. The issue of RMT can get heated, and there are some fair arguments on both sides.

In the case of GW2, I love the art style of the game and many of the play mechanics, but the fact that the company is fine with players being able to simple buy, or at least lessen barriers to obtaining rare reward (not power items, rare items), just seems wrong to me.

I know people have always used real money to “cheat” in MMOs, but it was usually at the risk of breaking the EULA and facing the risk of being banned. It was not in any way approved by most companies. Now we have companies that actually encourage you to buy gold, so you can “get rewards”, instead of playing the game they actually spent years making.

I agree that GW2 is not a strict P2W game, but with many items being incredible difficult to get through normal game play, it is definitely a pay-to-not-grind game.

GW2 is a good game, I just don’t care for the RMT. So I have decided to take a break, I may play again in the future if things change.

So, my wife and I have played GW2 since beta, and we have had a lot of fun. But now we are starting to see the game for what it actually is : Pay-to-win. A friend of ours started to play and was level 80 in 5 days, because he used $ to buy trade-skill mats to level up. This really made our level 80s seem pretty pointless, because it was then obvious that you can basically “buy” a level 80.

Now there are legendary weapons showing up on the trading post. We are very unhappy with this development. It seems most modern MMOs are all pay to win these day, with their cash-shops and the ability to buy coin. We long for the good old days of an even play field, no matter your standing in real life. I am now starting to look elsewhere for another MMO, even sub-based, with NO real life influence on your character. I worry that those days are over, and my enjoyment of MMO gaming is coming to an end.

It’s not buy to win, you are saying it’s buy-to-get-to-lvl-80. Legendaries on the trading post are just a joke, no one will ever buy it, people are just trying to anonymously show off their money/legendary which makes 0 sense. And really…legendaries were always using gold to get it, 250 of all t6 mats + more? Who will get these materials just by farming? No one. The drop rate for lodestones? No one can/ will farm this…

Sadly there are gold sellers in every game that makes it possible. ArenaNet made the decision to sell it themselves instead, which is a lot better than illegal gold selling.
