I am casual. For me that means I enjoy content that is fun for me, and don’t enjoy content that is annoying for me. Hot was more annoying to play than base game. So for me, it was not casual friendly compared to base game.

Option to turn off tool tips on the hotbar?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Diva.4706

Diva.4706

I recently returned to GW2, and still see no option to turn off hot bar tool tips. I have always been a “clicker” in MMOs ( almost 2 decades playing them), because of my age and lack of finger dexterity.
I have to plant one hand on the movement keys and do everything else with the mouse. I only play tab-target games. If I try to use the keyboard for combat abilities I get lost and very frustrated, usually ending up quitting. GW2 is about as much “action combat” as I can manage.
So, I would love to have the option to turn off hot bar tool tips, so that they don’t fill my screen with text boxes all the time.

My criticism on the Beta so far

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Diva.4706

Diva.4706

  • I would like to talk to npc and gather crafting materials without kicking me off my mount. It feels like a big hassle to be kicked off when doing either.
    >Yes, We need to stay on mounts when interacting with NPCs.
  • My raptor has one dye slot that is barely noticeable. I want to customize my raptor far more than that.
    > Would be nice to have more dye channels.
  • I would like to be able to glide whenever I am on a mount. I fell to my death from a big cliff because I expected to be able to glide. Let gliding kick the user off the mount.
    >Should be able to dis-mount after jumping, then glide.
  • I would like to have a mountless mount, which is just the player running at the same speed as mounts. When I was not using my mount and traveling the world, it just felt unnecessarily big and empty. I understand that the map was made with mounts and mind. It would be extremely difficult to make map smaller while tuning down the mount speed to be in line with player’s speed. So the easier choice is to make players more faster. I don’t think that some of my characters would look good riding a mount, this suggestion would give choices to players that just don’t want to use mounts, afterall there was countless people that dislike mounts in this forum. If there needs to be a lore reason to have mountless mounts, make the mount a Djinn spirit that buffs the player faster speed.
    >No, it makes mounts pointless.
  • I would like to be able to get on mounts immediately after battle. It felt so clunky to wait to get out of combat, especially when a single stack of 30 seconds of poison can stop me from getting on a mount. I hate Choyo because they explode in death which keeps me getting on my mount faster. My suggestion to fix this is that the game checks if there is any enemy nearby in a 600 range radius while in combat and ignore condis when getting on a mount. This will make getting on and off mounts more fluid and less clunky.
    >Should be able to mount with conditions on after a fight.

Did GW2 lose its identity?

We played GW2 from launch and we loved it. A casual friendly MMO that we could jump in and have fun with friends. GW2 was so much fun to play.
Then came HoT, and it was harder and not so casual friendly. Suddenly the game had a grind to it, that we never felt before. We ended up leaving the game.

Recently, I came back to see how things are today. The base game is still there and is fun for short play sessions. HoT is less fun.

So for us, yes GW2 did “change” on us, and remains so today.
Pity.

Traits and the casual player.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Diva.4706

Diva.4706

The following comments are given from the point of view of players with a casual play style, and should be read as such, (even though I myself, am a seasoned MMO player). The following is the experience of players I know.

First, the new trait system is confusing. People I have spoke to are overwhelmed by it, confused as to how it actually works and worry about spending points by mistake, even though this isn’t actually an issue at all. Every class can have all their traits by 80, so why not just enable traits automatically as you level, instead of confusing people with fake choices. There could be a “reset” trait option for advanced players that want to make custom builds as they level. I have seen players simply ignore the system all together and just run around playing with no traits at all!

It is a little confusing having a trait actually change your class, many players could simply overlook this feature. Also weapon info still says “… usable by your profession”, simply because you don’t have the correct trait picked. It should read "Only usable with “XXXX” trait selected" or something to that effect.

Guild Wars 2 is a very casual game, and as such should have systems in place that reflect this. Everything should be in one easy to understand place.

To sum up, adding complexity, while creating “deeper” game play, also pushes some player away. Also one pitfall that needs to be kept in mind, as the game systems become more and more complicated: skill resets can and do happen in MMOs. How many times have you gone back to an MMO you used to play, only to find all your skills reset, and it would take hours of research to “rebuild” your character. This has happened to me in many games. I usually just log out and play something else….

I believe that we are seeing the last generation that actually want physical boxes for media content. Today kids are growing up with digital content available at the click of a button; music, movies, games, books. They are all just a click away. Having to actually go to a store and buy a box with the content on physical media is a very out-dated, and very wasteful delivery system. I still find myself sometimes clinging to physical media. But at the end of the day it just takes up space.

Diva.4706

Okay, let’s be careful about lumping the entire community into one conglomerate whole.

The first complaint is that $50 is simply too high of a price tag for what has been presented. I’m not in disagreement, in all honesty. That’s something that can be rectified as more information pertaining to the expansion is released, but at the moment, it’s not enough for the “industry standard” price tag that has been slapped on it. You’re asking for fans to fork over money sight unseen, and Arena.net hasn’t particularly given a compelling reason to do so yet.

Still others are angry that purchasing the base expansion doesn’t come with a free character slot, something that previous games under the Guild Wars umbrella has done in the past. Again, I’m in agreement. There needs to be a compelling reason to break from precedent, and Arena.net has offered pretty much nothing but silence.

Entitlement doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. Standing up for what you think is a fair price to you is something that should be applauded as sound customer thinking. And if the protest actually stirs a change in the original plan, then it can only be a victory for customers everywhere.

But, unfortunately, once again, we have the kittenty, toxic element whose beef isn’t the price or the lack of bonus perks… but that purchase of the expansion will come with the base game at no extra cost for new players.

In summary, they aren’t angry because they feel cheated, they’re angry because they feel someone else is getting more than them. If you’re a member of this group, let it be known you’re a terrible person who needs to be summarily ignored and your complaints dismissed without merit.

Finally a nice balance response. If you feel the price is too high, then you simply don’t buy it. For me the price is so cheap, compare to other MMOs I have played in the past (all sub based).

GW2 is for me, the best MMO I have ever played, and I have played a lot. I was so excited for the E3 announcement, more info on HoT, and now pre-purchase is available!
One of the best features of GW2 is the community, it shines head and shoulders above other games. Till now.

All the ranting and crazy talk going on about how Anet is “ripping” us off – are you kidding me? Before GW2 launched people where unbelieving that such a huge AAA MMO could run with no sub – it was just amazing – sub fees where gone forever!
If GW2 was sub based it would have cost me $540 to play over the last 3 years.
And you say $50 is a rip off…

Community- You disappoint me.

"Veteran Player" Entitlement.

Nobody is entitled to anything from ArenaNet. If they sold the expac for $100 or $1, you are not entitled to it. You just decide if you are willing to pay the price. I do not understand all the complaining of $50 – That is the price to play HoT. If you are complaining that means you DO want to play HoT, you just don’t want to pay. Do you complain at the grocery store every time you buy food? Do you expect the store to just give you food because you shopped there for 5 years and now they OWE you something?

The choice is yours to make.

On the other hand, any decent business prefers that an unhappy customer expresses themselves rather than just quietly ceasing to be a customer.

But yes, the rage and derision both sides are heaping on each other is ridiculous. Everyone will decide whether the price is worth it or not for themselves, and that will add up to satisfying or unsatisfying sales for ArenaNet, who will then adjust accordingly.

I made my choice, and my family and I will be playing Heart of Thorns when it goes on deep discount.

For now, we get to play Marvel Heroes.

This is my point exactly. Everyone can decide if the price is okay for them or not. For me the price is okay – it’s within my gaming budget. I like GW2 and play it everyday, So for me it’s good value.

Everything in the world has a price. Market forces set prices. If a product or service is too expensive then less people buy it and it goes out of business. The customer always has the choice.

If you don’t pay, then you don’t get the product. Simple as that. Complaining on a forum will never change prices.

So you have the choice – If you deem the product too expensive – keep your money, or shop elsewhere. But remember – the choice was yours to make.

I made my choice, and I get to play Heart of Thorns.

Okay here is my 2 cents. Another major studio recently announced an expansion for their MMO, and it is going to be “Free” – IF YOU SUB for the 4 months leading up to the release. 4 Months at $14.99 = $59.96. So they are “selling” their xpac for more than HoT, plus you have to sub to that game forever to play all the content…How is HoT poor value relative to other MMO expansions..?

I have played a lot of MMOs, for over ten years and expansions where always around the $40-$50 mark. Also with inflation, $50 ten years ago is $60 today. Video games are more and more expensive to make every year , yet the retail price hardly moves.

So, lets all just chill out a bit. We have a great hobby, and in all honesty, it’s pretty kitten cheap compared to other pass-times.

Diva.4706

Having recently come back to GW2, I started looking around for a new guild, (which I am still looking), and think GW2 could improve the guild window functionality as far as recruiting new members.

When a new player opens the guild window it should default to a tab that shows a list of currently recruiting guilds that have an active recruiter online, with a brief description of the guild’s focus/play style, as well as levels/classes/trade skills they are currently looking for as members. The player could then apply directly for a guild they like the look of , and a message would be sent to the guild recruiter online that they have an applicant.

Currently guilded people could also use use the same tab if they are looking to join another guild.

We are looking to join a casual friendly guild on Gates of madness server. We do have a small family guild already ,which is fine for solo/duo content, but we would like to find similar minded friends to enjoy more group content, and have fun along the way.

We play PvE most of the time, but also dip into WvW sometimes. We have max level characters, with map completion also.
95% Rep would be fine, and our playtime is mostly early evening EST.

Thank you for you time.

I have played GW2 since launch. Recently, some friends started playing. They have played other MMOs in the past, but are casual players and tend to give up on MMOs because of the level/gear grind most games use.

They really like the PvE of GW2, because it’s fun to play with no worry of falling behind on levels or gear. It is by definition , a fun and casual game.

One thing that does spoil the game experience for casual players, is that veteran players sometimes forget that the game IS casual friendly. Casual players never go to the forums or read wiki. This is not being lazy or ignorant, as a casual player will experience the game ONLY with the information the game gives to them. They expect the game to give them all the information they need to play.

Most players are very friendly and help people, this is one of the best communities in the MMO space, but I have come across players that are less helpful, and sometimes just rude to casual players.

So I am making a call out to all players, if you come across somebody that is a bit lost or confused of game mechanics, please give them friendly advise/tips on the issue. Comments such as “DEAD=NOOB!” do not help the situation and my cause the player to simply give up and leave the game we all love.

Software KVM use.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Diva.4706

Diva.4706

that’s not how Synergy works. Its quite literally a virtual Keyboard/Mouse server to control many systems. While you ‘could’ send keystrokes and mouse movement to many remote clients at the same time, that is NOT what synergy was intended to do and requires advanced setup to do.

so out of the box synergy setup you can use as it doesn’t violate ANYTHING with GW2.

But if you plan to ‘Bot’ or duplicate keystrokes/mouse movements with it, then yea that WILL get you banned.

Right, I would never using it to bot or duplicate key-stroke, only for convenience. If Anet believes any kind of “remote” play/control is forbidden, then I see Synergy as not being allowed because it passes input signals through the network, not directly from input device to the PC.

Is it okay to use a software KVM program such as “Synergy”,( one keyboard and mouse, two computers), to control two GW2 accounts on two PCs.
There is no automated playing here or any kind of macro use, just the ability to control two computers with one keyboard and mouse. Only one PC is receiving inputs at any given time.
If such software would put my accounts at ANY kind of risk, I will not use the software, thanks.

Grind is still grind

Any activity that a human does for the very first time is new and rarely “boring”, and if done willingly is usually fun. Repeat that same task multiple times and the person can start to get bored because of repetition. Continue to do the activity excessively, and you become more efficient at it, it gets easy, eventually trivial. Now the activity becomes boring and feels like a grind if you continue to do it.

The best way to avoid anything feeling like a grind, is to change what you do often, and don’t constantly look at the end reward as the only reward.

I just play for the fun of the game, yeah it might take me a while to get “rewarded”, but for me the fun is the reward.
