This is what makes gaming a joy. I play with my Grandson, and he is always telling me "Come on, follow me ! "
Priceless.
I racked up enough hours in the week, so I can take Friday afternoon off.
Working all day Saturday
Home for Sunday finale.
2 out of 3 isn’t bad
So it looks like ArenaNet is catering for the hardcore player base, and leaving the casuals as an “under geared” group of players.
What happened to None-Gated content ? What happened to being able to just play with my friends in ANY content. Is it true there will now be zones I can not play, because I haven’t farmed the right gear?
Gear checks???
ArenaNet, this is not what you said we would be playing.
This is a must, a title is something to show-off, not hide.
Thanks for the new Fov Beta :

Here are two screenshots, zoomed out, with and without the new FoV
Will we ever be able to trade gems freely on the market?
Did mad King with a Necro and Guardian. It took a while
Titles are cool achievements to get, and I would like my title to show on my character in the world. Having it only show if someone happens to select me is kinda pointless. Let us display our achievements !
I like my character to be powerful, and with that power I can get what I want. This game does not provide that.
Not in past MMOs
I like MMOs because it was your character’s abilities that made you successful, not twitch control of the player. Maybe I am playing the wrong MMO after all…..such the pity.
when they are an RPG.
Because they are not video games. The clock tower is a fail for me, because it is a video game. No place for this in an MMO. Sorry ANet but for a game that was designed for casual mmo players, this is out of place. I detest twitch gaming.
Looks like the holiday event is just a grind. Holiday content should be for fun. Starting to doubt ANet’s vision of what is fun.
To the OP: Well it just looks like you don’t like GW2. That’s okay, there are plenty of other games to pick from.
My family and I are having a blast in GW2. It is simply the best MMO we have ever played. Period.
Skins for pets….I see gems in my future…
Player police force…?
I would love it if all object between my character and the camera became transparent, and keep the camera at a normal distance, instead of zooming into the back of my head, and getting stuck on walls etc.
This simple feature would make the game even more of a joy to play.
Thanks Jon for the detailed explanation. Once again I can see that you guys are looking at the “big picture” and for a healthy economy.
Guild wars 2 is in safe hands.
Why are many players in such a rush to get everything in an MMO? Do you eat a meal as fast as possible, to get to the desert?
MMOs became mass-market products, most people are casual gamers, therefor you get casual games. If you want hard-core, you need to pick a niche game.
Hardcore just takes too much time investment for most people. In most MMOs only a small percentage of the player base even touch the hard-mode content such as raiding.
GW2 is just the beginning of casual MMO design.
Read the title : NOT for rewards. If it isn’t “worth” your time, then don’t go to low zones. It is designed so you can player with others. If the replay value has nothing for you, you are done with PvE. I do agree that travel costs should be adjusted, as high travel expense is a barrier to play with others.
I really wish people could drop the gear/coin=fun thinking.
I think some players are mistaken in why we have level scaling. In other level based MMOs, if you are max level and want to play with a friend that is lower level, you have to make an alt to play with them, or wait for them to grind up to your level. In GW2, you can just take your main and play with your friend.
I also see the argument that it isn’t worth playing lower content, because of low rewards. I play with friends and family lower than me all the time, and I am not doing it for rewards. I am doing it to have fun with them.
Some people are having a real hard time getting away from the “I need shinnies to have fun” mentality. For years now people have been playing games that they actually don’t enjoy, simply because it “rewards” them with pixels.
The best reward you will ever have is a great time playing with friends, everything else is fluff. This game is playground, and you never outgrow the toys.
The main issue I have with waypoint costs, is that it goes against GW2’s core design of exploring and playing with friends in every zone. There should be NO downside to playing with friends. ArenaNet, you need to fix this ASAP.
I eat AT the keyboard
This is how waypoints should work.
1) Free travel to closest waypoint if you are dead.
2) Waypoint cost should NOT scale with level, it is a punishment for being high level. Also having expensive travel costs for high level characters actually works AGAINST the design of the auto-leveling system, causing people to actually not want to go to lower zones. With a fair price to travel, high levels would be much happier coming over to lower zones to help friends, and would probably travel around the world a lot more.
3) There should be an achievement that gives a discount on travel costs, such as 100% world map. People with 100% map, have paid plenty of coin already
It’s all about getting people playing together, not keeping them apart .
> blarrg
That is correct. GW2 does not have tiered content at max level, to advance gear power, such as raids.
>shifted
I know its crazy talk
Does everyone that likes to grind for gear get it now?
No Gear Grind, No Power Advancement At 80. Period.
This is part of the original vision for Guild Wars 2, and is a corner stone in its design. If you want a gear grind and have power advancement – You are playing the wrong game !
As for the rest of us , we love it !
34, 22, 17, 11, 6, 4
I am curious as to the average player level on the 1 month anniversary.
You know we love numbers ArenaNet
The culture of the hardcore, results in less fun.
(Yes, if you get to max level in days/weeks, you are hardcore)
Very high quality, fun game play. Attention to SO much detail.
Glad you are loving the game. By the way, I run it on an AMD fx 8120 , 8GB ,Radeon 6850 , on max settings. I never lag or have to “fiddle” with settings, not even in WvW. It runs very smooth all the time.
Welcome to Tyria, may your journey be a good one
>Rizzy.
Thank you for your intelligent post. Sound like some fair points you bring up. I just ask the player base to discuss any issues they have with the game in a respectful manner. The game is still very new, and every MMO released has some growing pains when a mass of people start to play the content.
What bothers me is are posts containing comments like : “the game sucks”, “end game is none-existent” . It does not add the conversation and does not help ArenaNet add/fix features we feel are missing or unfairly balanced.
So lets show the devs and fellow players respect. ArenaNet have put a lot of hard work into the game, taking many risks in design. Lets tone down the anger and talk about the game, and how we would like to see it grow. We are in this for the long haul, right?
If you are 80 with exotics, personal story done and 100% world map. You are finished advancing that character. It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp. This does not mean you are done playing them, you continue to do what you did in the rest of the game: You play content because it’s fun. If it isn’t fun for you, then you are playing the wrong game.
Arenanet said from day one, your game play will not change at 80. I look forward to having “finished” characters, but it will be a long, long time before I get there.

Haters gonna hate. this is the best mmo ever made for the casual mmo player.
I have over 200 hours in game , and my highest character (of 6 ) is 34 so far.
This game was not built for hardcore gamers.
Yes I am male, first a little background: I acquired the nickname of “Diva” in my last mmo because my friends said I always wanted the best stuff. I ended up giving my main the last name of “Diva” originally as a joke, but it stuck, and now for years all my friends refer to me as The diva, (sometimes even in real life lol).
So, I have to have a character named Diva now, in any game I play.
2 Sylvari females, last name Diva
1 Norn female, last name Diva
2 male Sylvari ( one is my Main)
1 male Asura
I seem to never make human characters in MMOs, maybe because I play one in RL
Welcome to the wonderful world of Tyria !
The only thing you need to know; this game is not about rushing to max level and then grinding gear. It’s about exploring and taking your time in the world. Ignore opinion on whats “wrong” with the game, or which class is the “best”. Discover your own path, and play what is most fun for you. Good hunting !
Been playing MMO’s of all kinds for around 12 years. This is simply the best I have ever played. A total breath off fresh air, just amazing . I will be forever thankful to ArenaNet for finally breaking the mold on MMO design and game play mechanics. No trinity and no gear grind, and finally no raiding. It really is inspired.
Thank you ArenaNet for making an extremely high quality MMO with no sub The MMO landscape has now changed forever. Move over hardcore, the casuals are here to stay!
Would you play it?
Yes: You will love GW2
No: You will be disappointed with GW2Guild Wars 2 is not about gear. period.
So…what this game is about? There is no WvW ladder that you can check, there is no guild ladder, there is no pve progress ladder…so…um…
FUN.
EQ2 for years (closed)

Guild Wars 2 is not about gear. period.
It isn’t “about” gear. It’s about having fun, and as a result you end up with gear. Take the red pill and break out of the “I must get gear” mentality.
I really hope 3rd party changes/add-ons of kind are NOT supported. Everyone should use the exact same UI. Anything that gives some players an advantage over others is not the level play field that GW2 promised. Mods can also cause customer support a lot of headaches, because of people using add-ons that break the game or cause bugs.
The best way for us to get features we want is to suggest them to ArenaNet. This way everyone has a rock-solid UI that is fully supported by ArenaNet.
When you have time, please fix the scaling of fonts on the Trading post when using any setting other than “normal” size UI. Thanks
Surely it evens out after the first day?
e.g. you start playing at 7pm, 1 hour towards daily – then reset – then play until 9pm, 1 hour into the next daily.
When you log on tomorrow, you will already have one hour of that daily done, meaning by 8pm you have your 2 hours of daily done.So it all evens out right?
This is the issue. To finish today’s daily, that I may have started yesterday, I HAVE to log in well before 8PM to finish them. My point is I don’t want the game setting my play time. My brother lives in the UK, his reset is in the middle of the night, so it does not effect his play time at all.
What do you mean there are no training wheels? The very first NPC you meet when you arrive at your hometown tells you exactly how to play. Follow the hearts, visit the vistas and POIs. Enjoy events.
Here is the problem ANet ran into when designing the game. In the original design there was no hearts or scouts, just events. People in closed beta didn’t understand that they where free to do anything they wanted. They stood around looking for quest NPCs and didn’t take part in events because they didn’t have a “quest”.
So ANet put in the scouts and hearts as a “tutorial” that there are events “going on” in the world. This was the little “push” to get people exploring. In later zones there are no hearts at all. The downside is people now see the scouts and hearts as actual quest hubs, and think this is the ONLY content in the zone.
The reward for playing GW2 is the fun of exploration in a dynamic world. Not gear and max level.
The great thing about GW2 is there is no sub, so it is fine to play it as a “second mmo”. So if you enjoy playing Rift, go right ahead and play, and when you are in the mood for GW2, it will be right there waiting for you
