6/0/2/6/0 wrecks with LB… especially in wvw. You’re rocking 2500 attack with food coupled with air/ fire sigil’s, pin point accuracy (want to LB get read the wind) at 1500 range… and you think our damage is bad? You can roll up on glass cannon in a valley below you and three shot them before they know wtf is going on. Not to mention very short cd on stealth/ kb and a decent aoe cleave.
SB is an amazing wep with the right set up as well, (what i play) Get to flanking with earth/ agony sigils.
Not trying to hate but seems like you didn’t even try… play 2 games get wrecked then come here by chance?
2/0/6/6/0 sb, s/d, wolf/ jungle spider, martial mastery bleed set up with bark skin/ sotf and you won’t ever die to hambow… or get touched really.
Full build in an editor would be appreciated as well as some gameplay.
So many Rangers don’t know rotations or what to focus on with different opponents especially in WvW.
Here is my build, been having a blast with it.
And here is a thread in attempt to describe how I play… my pc is garbage and can’t handle recording
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/The-Skirmisher-pvp-build-guide
Empathetic bond, survival of the fittest set up and picking/ using pets wisely and you’ll never have condi problems unless you’re kittened anyways.
Can’t comment on pve. In pvp; however, I think rangers are in the best spot they’ve ever been in with the recent patch… Pet bug fixes, rune/ sigil changes and traits have made build diversity much more robust. Traps, rtw/ sotf, bunker bm, bleed, perma chill, spirit (don’t play this, just don’t) and many more are all build set ups that can be successful in pvp.
Coming from mainly playing an engi (very small player population). The ranger population, is very large, so the odds for a “bad” player to pop up and whine increases. This leads to a skewed perception of what the ranger is capable of in my opinion.
And just my 2c…. rangers are very good at immob, and cc in general (malicious training is so underrated)

2/0/6/6/0 sb, s/d, wolf/ jungle spider, martial mastery bleed set up with bark skin/ sotf and you won’t ever die to hambow… or get touched really.
Started my celestial set for wvw
rtw/ sotf zerker build makes me happy… LB is a great wep if you spec/ utilize it correctly. Rapid fire could use a bit of help but other than that it is an amazing wep when used correctly.
A little off topic but always down to theory craft. Off of a whim this is what I would try out for a PM build.
Non-stop poison, weakness, and chill.
Actually I run bark skin every over EB sometimes. When you’re facing a lot of hammers for instance. The great thing about bark skin is it applies to your pet as well. So unlike EB which makes your pet take a lot more dmg it’s the opposite.
This allows you to chose a very glassy pet like a bird upping your burst by quite a bit. If you do run BS i would switch malicious training for keen edge giving a free condi cleanse/ more bleeds. Allows you to be more offensive basically.
Poison master is a cool trait, but doesn’t work as well in this setup as EB or BS. To really max it’s potential loud whistle seems to be the trait to best compliment PM. Toying around with the idea of a perma poison/ chill build. I believe others on this forum have already started that though
(edited by Dolt.2731)
I run shortbow with s/d and have no problems with 1v1’s in my current build. So yes, they do exist.
Sorry for the pre-conceived notions. It is a take on krait burst bleed build! Was originally trying for a poison master build and came full circle to this.
I’ve tried carrion and I don’t think the trade-off is worth it for my personal style. With that being said carrion is a completely viable choice for this build.
While you gain 200ish attack and ton of condi dmg. Your crit drops to the floor which hurts the shortbow’s ability to apply bleeds. A roughly 2k health increase isn’t worth losing 450 toughness over, and your healing goes from 430 to 0.
If I were to run carrion I’d probably take keen edge over malicious training to help my bleed stacking/ lack of crit out (free fury with this set up on ke activating). This means I lose out on cc which hinders the builds survivability even more.
It’s odd, upon originally coming up with the build I was rocking either rabid or carrion… just feels like celest performs much better, my 2c. Enjoy the set up guys
(edited by Dolt.2731)
I have been playing this for almost a week now and am having wonderful results. This is a very very flexible build. It excels at 1v1 and small group fights. In fact I have flat out kittened kitten up A few people have asked me about my setup so I thought I’d share it with everyone here and why I made the decisions I made. Also; who knows? Maybe as a community we can better this build
I’m sure there are many out there running similar variants of this and please feel free to customize to your personal style. This is just what has worked out great for me.
The general idea behind the build is to be the best kitten ed kiter in the game. You do not have great burst. You do; however, have great sustained damage. So when you are in a team fight the idea is to stay on the fringe and flank your opponent stacking a massive amount of bleeds (celest ammy makes short bow, s/d physical damage respectful as well).
If anyone decides to focus you there are many options at your disposal to re-position, keep stacking bleeds, or begin your kite. Pets are a great option. Malicious training is a very underrated trait with the bug fixes to pets. The cc jungle spider/ wolf provide is excellent for both offense and defense.
The success of the kittening of kitten up in my opinion comes down to the sword. With martial mastery you cannot be hit for a very long time in s/d if played right. Take auto attack off so you can stop your chain at will to execute your other abilities. Sword 2 on a 5 sec cd is op. If you can get really good at sword 2 you can get away from anyone. Here is a vid with tips on how to abuse it.
S/d buys you so much time in a fight, with troll unguent up and so many evades/ dodges while maintaining poison on your enemy not allowing them to recover has swung many fights to my favor. I’ve tried s/t quite a bit but your survivability and kiting go way down without martial mastery, I don’t think the damage is worth the trade off.
Short bow has amazing synergy with krait runes, agony/ earth sigils. You can also lockdown your opponent with sb 4 & 5 in conjunction with your pets cc.
For gear krait runes have served me best, I’ve tried chill/ poison set ups (a/d, s/t) but krait and shortbow with s/d have just been so good. As already mentioned earth/ agony sigils on sb has nice synergy with survival of the fittest granting fury on your abilities.
I like geomancy/ engergy with s/d. When you swap you can crippling talon right away to stack with geomancy giving an instant 6 bleeds/ cripple. Energy is great because many times you will be swapping to s/d to get the hell out of dodge.
Celest ammy was the biggest surprise, I was originally rocking a rabid ammy and tried celest on a whim. I actually found the damage to be better, not to mention more health and the healing with unguent is awesome. It makes the build so steady.
Pets are the only thing I’m on the fence about. Wolf is a must, the three sec fear (malicious training) has won me many fights/ saved my kitten . Widdle the villain down to 40%, then pop wolf for knockdown/ fear/ all while flanking and stacking massive amounts of bleeds. Been a nice finisher for me.
So for the second one I keep going back and forth between drakehound and jungle spider. Empathetic bond is pretty crucial and I find my hound dying more than I’d like but is an amazing 1v1/ 2v1 pet. I wish spider immob had a shorter cd but malicious training makes it a hell of an immob.
So this is my build. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. You can troll people all day long and just kite, don’t even need to fight back, lol. Sorry for the lengthy post, go wreck some face.

Great cc
Great condi removal,
Great bleed dmg,
Great kitability/ evading,
Decent physical dmg.
Decent healing,
Having so much fun. Very flexible for play-style as well. Have been running a lot of variations of this.
Can dance around your opponent all day
(edited by Dolt.2731)
I imagine others are running something similar to this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAV8YjEqUzaBLusw1aABhaVA0uGShl1d+eDfdBrSA-TpRAwAAeAAUuAAdOCAlLD45gA0b/BA
I would like to discuss it.
I have been running around in spvp the last few days with this with great success. While it is not the best all out bleed build available I feel the defenses it offers makes for some very active play.
The synergy between SotF and bark skin is awesome (backed by 1900 toughness as well)
Krait runes with 1400 condi dmg are pretty swell
I love martial mastery with s/d. Combined with bow, you can kite like a bawss with this build all the while bleeding them out.
You won’t soar to 25 stacks of bleed but you will consistently have 10-15 up and they do a lot of dmg. There are many options available to keep poison up the majority of a fight not allowing your opponent to recover.
I feel bark skin also allows for you to get away with running a glass pet w/o investing in the BM line hence the raven.
If you find yourself facing a lot of condi pressure in a game. Just swap bark skin for EB and run a drake.
Thoughts?
I know some people are all for a/d s/t set ups but I love bows (yeah I’m one of those) and martial mastery with sword is lol fun. Hornet sting is basically a 4 sec cd by the time you get done with both leaps.
I hope others are having as much fun as I am with similar set ups
Have you tried krait runes? They are pretty fantastic now.
Ichabod Muggs
Maguuma
svp/ wvw
Power Ranger’s are far from weak… and if you run eagle eye you have 1500 range with great accuracy thanks to read the wind.
Also for the bunker rangers out there, you can have bark skin and sotf. Has great synergy.
I run this with traveler runes and s/d… so much fun, been favoring ranger over my engi as of late.
I like S/D over GS because I feel it is more versatile. I can dance around opponents who manage to get on top me while LB is on cd. Plus the poison is really nice.
Anyone else running drake/ wolf? Or for that matter, what pets are you guys favoring with this set up? I like raven/ wolf, hound/ wolf but felt I couldn’t keep them out of danger well enough in larger skirmishes. Haven’t tried out spiders yet.
I’m still up in the air about RaO and entangle, thoughts?
Slowly putting together a wvw set, the ferocity changes are making it a bit tricky; not to mention traveler runes are… expensive.
Even with the GM traits being so useful for this build I really like the pet changes. So much smoother. I can actually chain cc someone with wolf leap/ LB 4/ fear while mowing them into the ground. (love doing this combo to boon hate necros when they get to 60%)
(edited by Dolt.2731)
I run a power bomber in spvp/ wvw, mucho fun… I combo pull wrench with big ol’ bomb. Rifle gives a lot of cc to help land your bombs (net shot/ sitting duck)
They are also amazing for kiting.
And… they hit really kittening hard.
Love my tricked out shotgun and the kickbacks of it’s animation.
Rifle has arguably the best auto attack in the game, for power at least.
Sd builds have lot’s of ranged attacks, and you only need to invest 10 points to pick up the trait depending on what route you want to go.
Bredin, love the build. Took it for a test drive in spvp with soldiers ammy/ rampager jewel and had much success. Currently massing a full knights set to have much fun in wvw… thanks for the build.
One question, why battle runes? Might is always a good thing but I opted for energy as dodging/ evading is the most important part of the build imo.
Check out Maskaganda’s posts/ videos, he runs dual pistol hgh very successfully.
Removes immobilize, love it… coupled with magnet pull and BoB you can keep someone on their back for a very a long time.
Was messing around and came up with this: Carrion amulet has great synergy with FT i think, like the poster above me stated.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqalspyanuSfF17IRIFF++gUk37K6xjp8kB-ToAgyCuIyRFkLITOSds6MEZuA
check out the stats with full might/ corruption stacks.
2200 condi dmg, 3500 attack with 24.5k hps. Really nice hybrid dmg. Decent defense. Only thing I feel it lacks is crit.
FT is fun and has great utility… if it just did a bit more dmg it would be an amazing kit, and I think our build diversity would flourish even more.
Nades are great. Bomb kit is awesome with the new explosion radius. Toolkit is great and box of nails is getting buffed, let’s hope they bring flamethrower in line as well
I would loooove to run zerker/ flamethrower.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqKlIqiYH5i6lEZUhODUh8SkC9zy+84tYLIE-ToAAzCpI+S9l7LzXyvsfN+YuA
This is a fairly standard condi build. third utility is preference, options can be elix s or b, rocket boots, elixer gun etc. Some people run nades/ bombs, just trade shrapnel for bomb radius in explosives.
There also is a thread by teldo a few threads down that give great (short) instructional videos on a lot of engi combo’s, check it out.
HT is your only condi removal outside of light field (eg). Takes some practice but try not to blast it and just pick it up after the cleansing burst. This gives you condi removal every 15 secs which isn’t great, but far from terrible.
Condi’s are definately the builds weakness, avoid necro’s 1v1. But other than that it has all the tools to take down anyone else barring a significant skill gap.
Practice landing your grenades (sucks at first) and smoothing out healing turret and the rest should come fairly naturally. Remember that you can throw nades in a 360 degree radius, practice rotating camera to throw nades wherever they need to go.
Cheers.
You can also look up teldo’s build. p/s bomb/ flamethrower, rocket boots condi build.
(edited by Dolt.2731)
Up to you really as far as whether you want AR over hair trigger. I prefer the first build, and projection injection/ backpack regen is the way to go imo.
Bombs also scale better with power than anything else in the game
Hrmm, I see many different builds floating around… are you referring to the condi-nade build, the decapping build, teldo’s far point assaulter… sd/ nades, there are a few others, which one in particular?
And if you want to get rid of an engi just sick a boon hate necro on them.
One of the thing’s I enjoy about this community is just how diverse our builds can be.
Seriously? Winter’s bite is one of the best skills in the game (chill/ weakness is amazing vs wars) split axe with geomancy sigil and ss are amazing bleed burst. And… axe 1 is great if you run carrion in spvp, does decent dmg and hits multiple targets. Awesome synergy with dagger as well.
OH axe is underrated i think… sword/ axe is a lot fun with a power build, the pull is on a short cd and coupled with sword you can stick to a target quite well.
The problem lies with the fact that power ranger’s dmg is crippled because of their pet… i feel like the mechanics of power weapons (lb, gs/ sword/ oh axe) are in a good spot… but none of them have amazing burst (decent but far short of other classes).
The only drawback is hk4 when an immobilize lands on you, very frustrating. But other than that it is great… it most certainly is our best underwater heal for all those wvwe’rs out there.
Hoelbrek runes, automated response, and lemongrass poultry soup will alleviate any condi concerns you have. Hoelbrek also has great synergy with juggernaut for might stacking.
I would also recommend healing turret, it’s a bit awkward at first but is by far our best heal. And don’t forget about flamethrower 5, it is your best burst defense if elix s is on cd.
And for toss elixer s be crafty… as you toss it strafe one direction then once it lands B -line the opposite way, 99% of players will “chase” in your original direction.
Power wrench might also be a nice option over leg mods, 3 sec block on a 16 second cd is amazing.
(edited by Dolt.2731)
Thanks for the responses guys! The tooltip is a bit confusing so was curious if it was for the player or just the pet (w/o signet mastery).
I was hoping that it would affect the player as having 7k hps with 1700 toughness would give me a fairly solid chance of opening the gap but shucks… take it deep it is.
Has anyone ran this trait in wvw? I’m working a wvw set up for my ranger. Coming from mainly playing Engi Stab at 25% is very appealing while running lightning reflexes and a sword for escaping.
With that being said I don’t see a lot of people running/ commenting on it so was wondering if it was worth it. Thanks
This is roughly what I will be running:
I love carrion ammy in spvp with this build so trying to get a nice mix of vit/ power/ and condition dmg with decent armor to boot in wvw.
No worries friend, Net turret is being nerfed!! Why you may ask? Because the stun/ immobilize on supply crate is being deemed op (it is unless you look at skills with much shorter cd, pin down, spider’s, etc) and it’s entirely to hard to nerf the specific crate on the drop so they are just nerfing net turret altogether, enjoy!!
I rolled asura stripper pole over the side squat squeaky clean might stacking relief razzmatazz rinkadink bowel movement.
What I run.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlIq6ZH5SfF17IxoHdW0bWUB9/5hcZbbB-TkAg0CnIwRhjDHDOScs4M+A
No, it’s not as good as condi nades but I don’t give a kitten because this is way more fun.
Hit’s like a truck and has a lot of ways to mitigate dmg.
drop big ol’ bomb, magnet pull, prybar, bob explosion, blunderbluss, overpower shot, net shot, throw wrench, jump shot is your go to combo.
If they don’t use a stunbreaker you can keep them in this cc chain and will probably down them or drop them sub 25% depending on build.
Bomb auto attack can hit for 3-4k
Been using this for months now, just wondering if anyone else has dipped into zerker bombs for pvp? So much fun.
I run a slightly tankier version for wvw with full hoelbrek runes and lemongrass soup for -40% condi duration… Immobilize is the death of this build and is quite popular in the current meta.
I also run battle sigil with enhance performance in wvw to break 4k attack power with ease (I hit some poor kitten simultaneously for 5.5k with prybar and a 9.8k BoB) although my crit chance is lower than I would like, looking forward to the rune overhaul, double sigil for 2hers.
Get yer gunpowder on friends
(edited by Dolt.2731)
Sorry folks, I meant pvp… and yes, it does work
Anyone else run zerker-bombs? I don’t believe I’m the only one
A lot of good rifle builds actually.
You can look up Chaith’s power build.
I run zerker bombs 30/0/0/10/30 and have a lot of fun. Nice thing about engi is you can pretty much make anything you want (outside of turret’s) do decent to very well. What were you thinking on top of rifle as far as a build goes?
Everything ends… except for everything end’s argument about the differences between conquest and ctf… sorry horse, here comes the club.’
You’re arguement has dissolved into claiming that builds won’t change… from your responses It has become abhorrently clear that you are confusing builds with abilities.
No kitten that cc/ condi’s/ bunkers/ etc. will still exist… abilities won’t change… Embarassing that anyone should have to explain this to someone. See the differences between PvE, PvP, WvWvW. Builds/ gearing/ strategy are dramatically different (because of the end objective of the game is different in each) while the inherent abilities of classes are the same, SHOCKER, right?!
What you are failing to realize, or just arguing for argument’s sake; not wanting to admit you are wrong… is that builds would change, albeit minor in some instances. As you have actually already identified in this very thread.
But please, keep the popcorn popping
CTF would greatly add to the strategic dynamics of this game that became very, very stale months ago.
And what more needs to be explained about CTF? There are two bases, each has a flag in it. You defend your flag and try and capture the other. O.o
Ad nauseam is my dead horse’s name, by all means, beat it.
(edited by Dolt.2731)
Durz, the empathitic bond nerf that is incoming is what I’m talking about. And I do know that about mesmer’s, but they can still get from point a to b much quicker than rangers. Hell, they can get entire groups from point a to b… which couples with the kitten poor group support of the ranger.
When discussing rangers I feel that saying you are faster than a necro/ guard should never have to be said, lol. And where are all these roaming rangers? Don’t see to many these days… at least well-played one’s outside of Tanbin.
Anywho, Staff could make this a much more dynamic class.
“Also, make plz some example how CTF builds will be different from Conquest builds?
Ever watched an average Thief* / Mesmer carrying an orb?
Probably not, as they either die withing seconds or drop the orb as soon they use one of their CLASSMECHANICS.
But if the distance becomes even larger, doesnt this mean, that bad orb carriers in Spiritwatch will be even worse in CTF and good orb carriers in Spiritwatch will be even better / more necessary in CTF?"
You have given many examples of why/ how builds would change.
(edited by Dolt.2731)
Never said they were the least mobile… one of the least. Not sure what mesmers you have been playing against. Guards/ necs are supposed to be slow… are rangers lol? Furthermore, EVERY engi slots a kit, and most every engi takes speedy kits and if they don’t do that, then power shoes it is.
Not when the goal of the game is just that. You design builds in conquest to hold/ take points. Which is the objective. You act as if everyone would run conquest builds in CTF.
Apparently i need to say it again, Spirit Watch = conquest, not capture the flag. The END GOAL is still to hold a point, not run an orb. You are arguing over a footnote as apposed to the actual objective of the game.
Based on your logic people would run pve builds in forest so they can garuntee svanir/ chieftan kills. It’s a minor variable compared to the dominating theme of conquest.
It’s a different game with different objectives which is why people would build to have an advantage of running/ holding a flag. Kinda like how in conquest people build to hold/ take a point. Wanna keep beating a dead horse?
All of those are quite a bit of a reach and to marry all of them for perma swiftness is impossible where others can do it w/o batting an eyelash.
It sure does… it’s a different game. I don’t understand why people don’t understand that spirit watch does not equal capture the flag, it’s still standing on a kittening circle.
