25/30/0/0/15 s/p is a one trick pony. kill one and escape or get killed.
its not a roaming spec. when you roam with thief you want to be able to fight evrything, even outnumbered, try that vs half decent players with that built.
S/p is Not for beginners, at least Not in wvw. For beginners p/d is always a good choice to learn when you should stay stealthed and when you can Hit your enemy…from a safe distance. Also positioning is easier as you must Not Hit the back of your enemy.
After Learning this you can switch to d/d or d/p. S/d stealthless and s/p needs at lot of battle awareness, so you should Know which Hit you can take and which Not, when to engage and when Not.
All sets have solid builts posted in this Forum, just search them and customize to your taste.

Btw Stealth duration is the Same, you are misinformed. Revealed duration is different and there is no reason to keep it at 4 seconds in pvp since there is no “thief über burst cant Dodge” anymore.

D/p is superior to d/d. At least for solo Roaming and especially Vs warriors.
In groups i prefer d/d cuz it Hits harder, faster and ppl will focus visible players anyway (war, guard, Ranger etc).
Also, d/p has it hard to kill pu mes, d/d does it better.

S/d thief isnt even the hard counter to your warrior. D/p or s/p is.
S/d used to be the hard counter Vs boon heavy opponents until it got nerfed into oblivion.
Whats the Problem? You shouldnt counter every class.
S/d thieves have Problems with condi pu mes, necromancers and some engi specs aswell as spirit rangers.

Well… Being Hit by 3 heartseeker while you are already 1 sec in stealth is Not cool.
Happened to me 2days ago. I was Low on endurance Hit cnd while opponent started hs Spam. First hs ok, it has a casttime, second hs maybe luck, i changed direction and got Hit by the third hs. It was like hs was tracking me. I guess Server lag and the game didnt recognize i was stealthed. Didnt die from it cuz over 50%hp but i felt being cheated :|
nobody said you cant go deeper than 15 into acro. i just said you dont get much more defense above 15 and SA does it better, at least in wvw where you can stealth as much as you want.
oh i know that nobody needs stealth on steal trait. just that “strange” combo confused me a little.
pain response is more like “ok”.the only viable choice for master as its the only condi cleanse in acro. evry traitline has bonus dmg on 25…all are good. acrobatics offers nothing for defense SA couldnt do better , except dodges (acro 15).

do you really play thief? what you said makes no sense unless you trait for stealth on steal (which is absolutely crap) and do not take other defensive traits which REALLY boost your surv (like blind , rejuvenation and condi remove).
acrobatics above 15 is waste in wvw.

D/p counters wars pretty well. Especially overly aggressive ones. Just be close to them with a bp field under your feet. AA does the Rest. Perhaps Dodge a stun/ reflect bow atks. If he tries to Run, shadowshot. Press some bs in between. Easy

PvP: Not playing any more
PvE: everything except condi
I like the idea to combine it with steal.
Anet once said they consider making steal a ground targeted skill when there is no target ,to increase Mobility. Well…HTC should turn steal into ground targeted stunbreak. Grandmaster ofc.
Dshot was never a dmg skill. Dshot is Not disrupting shot, that was a Super Bad skill.dshot = distracting shot.20sec additional cd to any skill interrupted. Long cooldown? 10sec! That skill was Elite worthy and for sure was the best skill on a Ranger. And carried the proffession in pvp.

yep sins couldnt stealth, but they had more knockdowns than 4 warriors in gw2 incl uber boonstrip.
and in gw1, ranger was also carried by 1 skill. it was dshot. when you didnt play with it , your built was just a gimmicky one (like bunny thumper, thrasher, enraged lunge).
dshot was one of the best (if not the best) skills in gw1, i wish ranger had a similar skill like it in gw2.
the instant IR did remove fear. the new cant due to casttime.
but i can:
step1. split pw + increase stun (as they mentioned)
step2. oh… have to nerf pw dmg by another 15%
step3. was not enough, must increase ini costs of the the second half of pw
step4. warriors still crying…must nerf random other skill from this set
gimme back the old range in inf strike/return!
Steal+ cnd, then backstab. When the d/p stealths you apply bv and perform a death blossom. Then cnd again, backstab, hs, hs. Heard this rota from somebody in here. Works against Most d/p players.
If you face a good One, you lose.
then play mesmer. it feels almost like thief. phantasm/condi builds are super easy to play and very rewarding

better use traveller runes. d/d lacks long range gap closers,SoS is crap, probably not going to trait acro? also condi/boon duration is nice to have for hybrids (10/30/30/0/0 for example).
Thief is Not 50% faster in stealth, its 33%.
But the describtion is freakin fast.
You have to use Life force to speed up (but you also have a signet and a trait that gives you 25%), thief has to Dodge to speed up (thief has also a signet But no trait).

Thief becomes less stealthier on dec12th. At least no “perma stealth” (which was never perma).

Oh and in return we get…hard to justify even harder to justify. (and perhaps Last refuge cd reduced to 20sec? Isnt this a wonderful suggestion?)
@Burnfall: i would say the biggest Problem fighting thiefs as Ranger is the Pet.
1. It cannot keep up to the Mobility/shadowsteps of a thief so it does close to 0dmg.
2. It provided free stealths as it cannot dodge.
Hybrid : yeah, my Ranger has 2700+ toughness and some extra vit. So i can survive some backstabs. Full zerk = easy kill.
I Run 2 dogs and Most of the dmg i Do on my own. For me the Pet is more of a control Tool than a dmg Source.
Burning dodges for some swiftness is Not an Option. Evry crit thief needs swiftness, but Not All builds should be forced into 15 acro. A swiftness on crit trait would be very welcome.could replace acrobatics 5

I Made my own builts. And still play them. Sadly there are Not many different builts. Thats the downside of fixed skills, few utilitys.
This Is Not gw1, there you could really say “i invented this built”. In gw2: whenever you invent something min. 1000 others invent it at the Same time, or even invented it a month before.

The Problem of a Mixed set on thief is, Initiative. We need it for those skills which work with the built.

Well i would primary use p/d and secondary sb. Or p/p. Perplexity u Know. But d/d? Its obv a Power Set. Also unload could be changed to a condtition skill. Both sets would be so much more viable. Nobody needs a Mixed Set in a game where Mixed builts Do Not work as good as straight forward builts.
Atm we have:
2Mixed sets : d/d, p/p
1 burst Set: d/p
1 condi Set: p/d
2 control sets: s/d, s/p
And shortbow which works in every built
We could have:
2 burst
2 condi
2 control
+ shortbow
Sounds better to me

Yep, increase evade to 1/2sec + increase direct dmg or make it immobilise target for 1sec (would help landing cnd). Remove bleeds from that skill. We already have a condition Set.

Nobody can really tell what will happen to any proffesion in the Future, Not even the devs.
You will never stop complaining about thieves, because your Ranger has Problems dealing with them. Must be the fault of the proffession Design, surely not your own.
WHO are you that you can give assurances? you said you dont play thief, so you dont understand them. You cant say thief is in good hands because you cant See if someone is playing thief well or Bad. And if someone is playing Bad, how should he Know what is good for the class?
Im Not saying anet Team plays Bad, but p/p…you need 2 Buttons for this Set. “w” and “3”.
@Burnfall: what kind of ranger do you play? full glass?
apothecary/settler builds own thieves all day, or at least (if they decide to run) you remain untouchable for them.
today i played my lb/gs signet power ranger (yeah…rubbish) and i had some nice fights vs thieves. won some (including troll p/d and d/p) lost some.
what i want to say: if you would play thief for a while , you understand what they are capable of and what they cant do. you would know when to block/evade/rupt/kd to completely force them out of their rotations.
if you still feel tortured by thieves (after you tried it yourself), then its maybe your skill.
oh noes…dont give slash bleed dmg. anet will call it a massive buff but in fact its trash.
not another condi thingy on a power weapon.
bad idea to use that stolen axe skill vs a stun war….rly bad.
