Removing Wintersday/Sclerite weapons, why?

You’re removing the Wintersday and Sclerite weapons.
But, why?

Are you removing them for good?
Are they going to be loot drop?
Are they ever going to come back?
What is going to happen?

Just like that you’re saying you are going to removing them from the trader but you don’t tell us why.

I really liked the Sclerite skins and I was collecting them for one of my mains.
There is already very little to do in this game and collecting those skins is one of the few things that keep me going in this game.
Now recently they skyrocketed on the trading post and I can barely afford any more skins…

I feel the exact same way as you.

Absolutely loved the competitive aspect of GW1 and came to GW2 for the same reason.
I only managed to play that for a month long and it got extremely boring real fast.
So far I have only been waiting for something to happen and this is definitely a good start in the right direction.

In general you (Arenanet) are very quiet when it comes to PvP.
Players often feel you are not listening, even though you keep saying you are reading the forums.
The thing is, I have seen great feedback from time to time and none of you ever take the time to post something like ‘’Great post’’ or ‘’Interesting read’‘.
I have seen Allie doing it a few times, but too bad she’s gone now.
The only times I see a post is on super positive topics like ‘’Guide to sPvP’’ or ‘’I will help you learn to sPvP!’‘.
Don’t get me wrong, those are great threads.
But great feedback is super positivity too!

There are numerous issues in the current format and we have yet to hear how you guys feel about it.
Things like:
- Thieves completely deny any other berserker build.
- Auto-attacks being too strong for doing nothing.
- Too many AoE’s in a 5v5 format.
- Lack of ‘’skill shots’‘.
- Lack of promoting skillful positioning (too many leaps and teleports).
- Conditions are applied too fast and dominate too much.
- New healing skills and traits aren’t well thought out and most of them are not even in a state of being useful.
- Low risk -> high reward
- Game feels too easy and does not promote skillful play (as much).

A lot of players want to know how you feel about the current state of the game.
Let us be heard.

My biggest question of all is still this.
Why did you drop the ball on the already extremely well-established PvP concept from GW1 and went for this?

Too be honest I am not playing GW2 anymore, but for some reason I am still here waiting for something to happen.

You made GW1 happen, so I want to believe you can do it again.

By reading this now knowing how strong mesmer already is in current game, having this trait could be insane as mesmers are already extremely powerful in 1v1.
However, we do not know yet how they are changing the mesmer in terms of balance with the patch.
I assume the trait would have a cooldown on it so you would have to use it skillfully.

Transfers are free right now, transfer to a NA server and transfer back after a week for free.

If I do transfer, I won’t be able to participate in WvW for season 2 because I won’t be allowed to.
So that’s not a good option.

So, season 2 has started and I still haven’t received my season 1 reward chest.
I am one of the people who started on NA server before transferring back to EU.
In that way I am not able to receive my chest.
Neither do I want to pay for transferring to get my reward.
I have contacted support about this and all I got was when it’s ready.
Feel like I have waited long enough to even get a status update on this.

Why I feel sPvP lacks player skill

In all honesty, I feel this game lacks player skill.
Everything is way too simplified in this game.
It’s great if something is easy to get into, but that’s where it stays at.
I enjoy competitive games with excitement and intensity of players proving who’s best.
But this game lacks pretty much everything that enhances this experience.
It saddens me to see that the same company that created one of the best competitive concepts (GW1 GvG/HA) and turn it into… this (sPvP/tPvP).

But I am not here to complain, somehow I feel this game has potential.
Though there are a lot of things that stop this game from fully utilizing it.

Here’s a list of things I feel this game needs improvement on and why.

Leaps – Teleports – Shadowsteps
Problem

  • That the game has these mechanics is not THAT bad. The problem is that they happen too often and do not promote skillful positioning. You can easily charge/teleport into or away from your target with the press of a button. Thieves can even do this on a pretty spammable rate and hop into or flee combat with ease.
  • Pretty much every melee weapon has a leap with an extremely low cooldown (Warrior Greatsword even has 2 gap-closers!). This does not promote skillful positioning and disables this one role this game currently lacks – skirmisher (looking at Ranger).

Thoughts

  • There are actually 3 types of snares (Cripple, Chilled and Immobilized) as opposed to 1 speedboost (Swiftness). Seems there are plenty of viable options to close and/or create gaps.

Lack of overview
Problem

  • Often people can’t tell what is going. Sure, the best way is to tell what’s coming based on animations, I can tell most of them. The main problem is that in group fights it’s close to impossible to tell what is going on. There are so many flashy effects and fields happening, it’s hard to tell what is going on. Even in GW1 you can easily tell what is going on in 8v8 battles.
  • Asura, they are too small and you just can barely tell what they are going to do. In a competitive format, this is a HUGE problem.

Thoughts

  • Toning down the effects of multiple skills would help a lot and provide a better overview for players in group battles. However, this does not help the Asura problem much.
  • Skill-cast bars. It’s simple, it helps to provide an overview and players can skillfully land interrupts. I only see win-win on this.

Stealth
Problem

  • Most, if not all, melee weapons can strike targets who are in Stealth. Heck, you even see the auto-attack chain going on. However, most ranged weaponry can not strike a target in Stealth and those players can only await their death against someone who manages Stealth and Blind properly. Not being able to auto-attack targets is pretty huge in this game.
  • Thieves can manage Stealth for an extremely long duration, giving them easily the time to stay in or get out of combat without getting hit by ranged weaponry.

Thoughts

  • I feel Mesmers are in a good state when it comes to Stealth. They only pop it from time-to-time to lose target for a short duration without losing track for an extremely long duration.
  • Thieves work a lot more with Stealth. However, if Thieves would have Stealth that lasts on shorter durations, that would give ranged weaponry more of an opportunity to keep going in a fight more often. Players would also not lose track as easily and Thieves won’t just ’’vanish’’ and reset fights without telling.

Multi-target attacks and AoE
Problem

  • This game has WAY too many skills/attacks that hit more than 1 target. Basically as a Warrior or Guardian you can run in and put pressure on as many opponents as possible while they absorb all the damage that is incoming. Other classes can simply drop a ton of AoE on a location and pressure a lot of opponents. This is even easier to do in a game that focuses on capture points, where players need to stand their ground in a small area.
  • Ranged weaponry has to put points into a trait line to hit more than 1 target as opposed to melee weaponry. This is mostly unfair and makes melee weaponry far more superior.
  • The large amount of mulit-target skills give fights generally a short and dull feeling.

Thoughts

  • Wouldn’t you agree that longer and sustainable fights that require player skill and communication are far more interesting? I sure do!
  • Having skills that require a single target would give the player the power to choose who to put pressure on, who to snare and who to help. That would improve individual skill way more than simply casting this single skill and affecting everyone in an area.

I was convinced they were just there for the backpiece.
Something like this should have been a public announcement or anything obvious so players know not to delete them.

We need to stop the wait and see approach as that leaves people in frustration for way too long and adopt a smaller, more frequent balancing cycle. You want a lower dps future with rangers being equal? Let’s start now.

This is exactly what I mean. Balancing in large chunks just leaves too much room for errors that won’t get properly addressed until the next big patch arrives months later. You look at MOBAs like Dota 2 and LoL and you see that they roll out multiple balancing updates a month, sometimes even on a weekly basis. This way there’s less that needs to be focused upon at once and it is much easier to build upon previous rebalancing to make a better game.

The sporadic updates every few months needs to stop. Balancing needs to come first and foremost, and additional content like living story needs to be secondary. People don’t care how much any new content has to offer when they feel handicapped by problems that are beyond their control.

A MOBA GAME IS DESIGNED AROUND ARENA PVP, NOT PVE. BOTH LOL AND DOTA2 HAS ONLY ONE OR TWO MAPS, THEREFORE, THEY DO NOT NEED TO BALANCE THE CHARACTERS FOR ANYTHING ELSE THEN PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER. A MOBA IS AT HEART THE PINNACLE OF GAME BALANCING. ONE WRONG STEP AND THE GAME ITSELF BREAKS.

GW2 is an MMO-RPG. It is a fantasy game, a online story telling game, with frequent STORY content being updated. It is NOT supposed to be a pureblood PvP game. No MMO is. The PvP section of GW2, GW1, Daoc, TESO, SWTOR, WoW, AoC, Rift, Aion, Runescape or any other popular MMO is NOT the main aspect of the game, it is the icing on the cake. It is what makes people keep interested inbetween the story updates.

We cannot do content updates with the same rate and “intensity” as a MOBA, simply because then PvE itself will be neglected. Once you neglect PvE and massive portion of the games player will simply stop playing after a while. Not because they cannot do PvP/WvW, but because a big number of people do not enjoy conflicts between players. They enjoy making their chars look sexy, or roleplay. However in MMO’s, you are free to do so without being plagued by the PvP’ers, this is why you see massive PvE populations while the PvP populations are mostly the ones who cling to the game to the bitter end, and the main reason for that is due to us humans being extremely competitive.

Did you know GW1 was originally supposed to be a PvP game?
It changed when the PvE section got popularized during the Nightfall expansion.
This alone may be the reason why the PvP players (such as myself) feel the need to get more attention towards PvP.

Revisiting the unique Ranger mechanic (F).

Goal
Currently you are forced to share your usefulness with a NPC at all times.
Here are some problem of being forced with one.

  • You share your DPS with a NPC, you rely too much on your Pet and this stops build diversity on Ranger.
  • The Pet is unable to call priorities, it does not know when to do what, when and where.
  • You can jump onto things to quickly move around the map, your pet can not and takes the long path before he reaches you.
    • During combat your opponent can jump over things where your Pet can not.

These things are of huge matter especially in a Player versus Player environment.
You absolutely can not rely on a NPC at all times.

Proposal
Remove the Pet mandatory.
Instead, add a Pet as a bonus when spending, let’s say 15, points into Beast Mastery.
This allows players for easy access to pets if they want to.
Also opens up to add points into Beast Mastery to improve your ’’beastiality’’.

Pet utility skills will also need overhauls.

Associated risk
It’s a big change and we’re going to be needing a new replacement mechanic (F) for Ranger.

For example, and this would be great for those who have played GW1, you could take back Preparations.
There would be a variety of different Preparations to choose from and they will lock during combat.
This would open up different combinations on their attacks.

Here are some ideas (these are not final and require obvious testing).

  • Apply Poison For 12 seconds, your attacks apply Poison for 8 seconds (does not stack beyond max duration) on hit.
  • Sharpen Blades For 12 seconds, your attacks Bleed your opponent for 5 seconds on hit.
  • Seeking Accuracy For 12 seconds, your attacks are unblockable.
  • Expert Focus For 12 seconds, you deal xxx more damage on your attacks.

I don’t mind Aetherblade Warbanners doing some damage when they get dropped.
But they currently do a ridiculous amount of damage (most of the time one-shotting) a group of people.
They don’t even have an noticeable animation and/or sound to tell when I have to dodge roll.

You guys really need to stop these one-shot attacks in future content, it’s not really a challenge.
Give them more interesting mechanics in the future (like Molten Berserker for example).

Since todays patch me and everyone in my party is having trouble with receiving rewards after a match.
Sometimes when we leave a game (no matter win or lose) we get to see a window saying ‘’Roster Not Found’’ and if this is the case on a winning game we get no reward chest.
This does not always happen but it does happen quite often and we missed a couple of rewards now.

I have logged into Guild Wars 2 for about 2 hours now.
Everyone in my Guild seems to have gotten their Season Reward chest instantly, but I am not getting anything.
Yes, I have the Season Reward Key.
Is this a bug?

Edit: I believe I was on the NA server for the first week or two before I returned to Ring of Fire.

The downside is that there isn’t much to do for these smaller groups.
A large problem is that there is 1 server that just dominates all the others most of the time.
Making your options smaller and geting whiped really easily due to the larger force of your opponent.
WvW ended up in just plain Zerging and/or blobbing and overtake your opponents with sheer numbers.

There are things which you can do as a small group that don’t make much sense as a larger group. For example, taking supply camps isn’t efficient use of resources if you have like 30 people per camp. On the other hand, taking a keep or Stonemist just isn’t something that you’re supposed to be able to do with a small group.

I can not showcase myself, wanting to be the better player.
Everything feels simplified and I can not show the enemy that I am the better player.

That’s because unless it’s a level playing field, you’re not the better player. And sPvP is where that level playing field exists, not WvW.

Right now a ton of players want to play GvG so badly but they never introduced GvG on release.
They released Guild Wars 2, but there is no sense of Guild Wars in Guild Wars 2.

Should I even bother pointing out that the name comes from an event in the lore?

And personally, if you ask me, the GW2 way of doing PvP, where everyone gets the same gear regardless of how long or how often they’ve played, is awesome. I spent years playing another MMO, where I never touched the PvP because I knew that I had no chance against someone who simply had superior gear.

You’re not understanding what I am pointing out.
In WvW all you can do with a small group is roam around capturing camps, get some sentries, kill some dolyaks and hold the ruins. Is this enjoyable to do all the time? I don’t think so.

The thing that makes sPvP so boring is that everything is focused on capturing and holding points. Is this enjoyable to do all the time? I don’t think so.

I am not referring anything to lore. It’s the gameplay and feeling the original game gave. I can not recall anything in this ’’sequel’’.

I feel that you have not experienced the original game and may not get everything.

The whole game is designed around sPvP. It is the core of the game.
All other parts of the game have to be adapted to the fact, that the game has to work in eSports.

Saying, that the game was not designed around PvP is therefore totally false. If the PvP part was just so minor, why all those changes, that work in PvP, but ruin or restrict features in PvE.

This is a PvP game with a PvE world set upon it. Unfortunately for the DEVs, the game seems to be seen as a PvE game by most players, and that is why all parts of the game are in constant trouble…

From my personal experience, a lot of things feel dull and repetitive.
Nothing really feels like a real challenge.

In WvW you can not really show individual skill since most of the time it’s about zerging and blobbing.
Unless you are roaming and you are lucky enough to hit in a few other players, which occasionally happens.

I am aware of the new maps and spectator mode. While they are nice, it’s not great when the game still feels repetitive.

I want to have that competitive feeling again, the same the original Guild Wars gave me.

1 week later I jumped into PvP and see what it’s like.
My first experience in it was that there was little to no sense of coördination and everything was quite a mess.
The skill system was simplified (by alot) and things didn’t feel as rewarding as it did in the original Guild Wars.
I don’t have to see how many points I have earned, it does not make me a better player.
Whatever I did, right or wrong, nothing felt satisfying.
I am unable to punish players on their mistakes.
For example as a Necromancer, even if I manage to win a 1vs3 fight I just move on like nothing happened.
Even just the 4 PvP maps on release (all capture points) was quite dissapointing, the game does not have enough variety.

After 1 month I left PvP and never really looked back.
That’s where I started to explore WvW.
At first it felt really exciting, the amount of players, the large battles.
I could also play with a small group coördinatedly on the large maps and harass here and there and find some battles of equal size.
Some of them are pretty good.
The downside is that there isn’t much to do for these smaller groups.
A large problem is that there is 1 server that just dominates all the others most of the time.
Making your options smaller and geting whiped really easily due to the larger force of your opponent.
WvW ended up in just plain Zerging and/or blobbing and overtake your opponents with sheer numbers.
I can not showcase myself, wanting to be the better player.
Since shortly they introduced something new for smaller, coördinated groups to do.
But as a disspointment, they introduced something I left PvP for, capture points.

As a competitive player I am feeling left out, there is very little to do and the things to do are all the same.
Everything feels simplified and I can not show the enemy that I am the better player.
Most of the fights are already detirmined by the classes.

I remember the tournament that has been hosted by the developers.
Interviewing that Warrior from the winning team.
How did he practice Warrior just for the tournament?
Just simple hot-join matches.
What else does he do?
A lot of Guild vs. Guild in WvW.

Right now a ton of players want to play GvG so badly but they never introduced GvG on release.
They released Guild Wars 2, but there is no sense of Guild Wars in Guild Wars 2.

In my hopes I occasionally log into the game, hoping for that moment where they realize what direction the game is going.
I heard about a new WvW map, intended for smaller groups.
I got excited, but what is it all about?
Kill strong enemies and capture the points.
Again, it’s why I left PvP for in the first place.

As a big fan of Guild Wars, I am losing my hopes.
I absolutely love everything the original game gave me, but I can not feel the same about Guild Wars 2.
It feels like a completely different game, for me, it is just another game that takes place in the ‘’Guild Wars’’ universe.

For competitive’s sake, help us.

Alright, so I have started playing the original Guild Wars 1 year after the release (around factions beta testing) and I absolutely LOVED it from my first experience.
My first character was a Warrior, since I love bashing people.
Once I got to the Crystal Desert the PvE missions started to introduce me to PvP mechanics, but still have that sense of PvE in it.
I got introduced to defending the Altar, Relic Running and timing with Priest respawns.
They explained things pretty well and had a pretty good build up in difficulty.
So once I figured out how to deal with the variety of modes and completed the missions I had to face the Doppelganger aka someone like me (since he had the same skills as me).
There I got introduced to facing someone with the same skillset as me.
After a few tries I managed to defeat him and I became Ascended.
Now I got the oppertunity to combine elements of an other proffession with my main Warrior.
I have to admit it was difficult for me to get a sense of direction.
So I ended up picking Necromancer as my secondary and went for a Warrior build with minions (I know it’s awful but hey!, it was my first time!).
About 1 month later, when I explored PvE pretty good I started doing PvP.
I made a PvP character (Warrior) and they gave me a pretty decent sense of direction with one of their pre-builds.
They gave me one of the best Warrior builds, the W/E Eviscerate Warrior.
It was a good sense of direction on how to combine different proffessions for competitive play.
A big problem for me as a first-timer was that I got overwhelmed with all the other skills I had to unlock.
I did not know what other skills to unlock that would be a good choice for me.
The original Guild Wars was pretty hard to learn.

After weeks/months of playing I started to develop my playstyle through-out different characters and was starting to figure out how to respond to situations.
What I also liked is that I had a variety of modes to go through to experience different situations.
I eventually picked my 2 favorite classes that suited my style and went to deeper into them.
Warrior and Ranger were the classes of choice.
The more I played with them, the more I learned.
The more I learned, the better I played.
The better I played, the more satisfied I got.

I wanted to master the classes, I wanted to be better than my opponent.
I felt dedicated.
I can not explain how satisfied I felt every time I land a great Bull’s Strike.
It really putted the opponent in a tense situation.
I wanted to do it more often.
How about reading your opponent and landing that Disrupting Chop.
You could remove a threat for 20 seconds.
Doing that time after time gave me such a fantastic feeling.
If it be Qknocking as a hammer Warrior, or securing a target as a sword Warrior.
Whatever I played, if I did it right I felt so satisfied.

Rangers, what happened to them?
They were such an AMAZING class to just have or play as one.
A proper Ranger could really turn the tide of the field.
Pressuring your opponent with conditions while watching your opponents carefully, reading and interrupting their key skills.
Whenever I landed that Savage Shot, that Distracting Shot.. I just can not describe how fantastic that felt.
Whatever class you played in that game, if you did it right.. it was just an awesome feeling of satisfaction.

Where the game ultimately shined was ofcourse, Guild vs. Guild.
The sense of dedication of players, the coördination, it was exciting to play and watch every time.
The tournaments you guys orginased, that moment of victory, the moment where one of you said; ‘’this is what Guild Wars was made for’’.

During the lifespan of Guild Wars things started to feel easier, nearing the end, many skills got completely revamped and many were turned into Area of Effects.
It took away the skill necessary to secure that victory.

With the announcement of Guild Wars 2 I was pretty excited for it and there was said you guys had big plans for PvP.
Eventually on release I started playing through PvE and build up the feeling of the mechanics.
I think you guys did a great job on the dynamic system, the world feels alive.
Players could not steal exp or loot or whatsoever, players are encouraged to play together, which is fantastic.
Got to admit the story is a bit on the downside.

Unable to see Sylvari eye color

Since shortly (with the most recent patch I think) I am unable to see the eye color of my sylvari.

I have not used any make-over kits or whatsoever, so I wonder what went wrong.
Anyone else has this experience?

Why can’t we get things ADDED to the game instead of replacing older content?
So what if F/U was the least played path, it has it’s enjoyable things.

I got an answer for the blocked path with the hand logo on it that leads to some bag.

In World 1 Zone 3 (above starting area) there was a block that we couldn’t pass yet that we required the glove for. It leads to a cannon.
Right now we can destroy WOODEN walls with our glove.
The one that leads to that bag in World 2 Zone 2 is made of STONE.

I believe we can only get access to it later on.

We’ve been introduced to the new Watchknights not long ago.
They have alot of potential on what could possibly be done with them storywise.
The Queen’s Pavilion is a great way to show off what these Watchknights and a little magic can do.
Couple of potential missions I have in mind is where these Watchknights take the appearance of enemies and eventually backstabbing them in their base.
Maybe they could take on your appearance to fake enemies while the real you is hitting the main objective.
These are just a few ideas to get to know them and feel passionate about them.

I’ve been enjoying the Gauntlet the most.
I, for one, enjoy challenging content and it has been one of my favorite things that has been added into the game.
This is the place where Watchknights really shine (I assume the champions are Watchknights in disguise), you can see what they are capable off.

But after only 2 weeks they turn against you.
Honestly, this was already spoiled in the very first mission before you could enter the Pavilion, which is a shame if you ask me.
Although these Twisted look really cool, I don’t feel like we’ve taken a great loss by losing control of all these Watchknights.
In my opinion, this happens too fast.
We get introduced to these new Watchknights which were made to show what the great humanity can do.
And we lose them in just 2 weeks time… I feel quite disappointed about it.
I think it would have been way more interesting if we actually got to know these Watchknights, I wanted to see them in action.
If something like this would have happened like a year later or so and we had story content that included these Watchknights in action, I would have known them more, I would feel more for them, I would be more like ‘’The Watchknights become Twisted? No way!!!’’.
But something already happens after only 2 weeks.

I enjoyed it, but I saw way more potential.

Dear Dzag, it is not a bug to be able to fire through open door spots. Infact, this gives you the possibility to see and hit inner siege. If you look at keeps, they don’t have these open spots and gives the attacker a harder time to breach through the gate if Arrow Carts are hidding behind doors.

As far as my knowledge, noone from TaG is using any form of hack or any program to ’’cheat’’.
There are various upgrades on Arrow Carts that give extended range and larger AoE fields.
Even without these upgrades, Arrow Carts alone have a pretty large AoE.

We don’t use any hack, we never did and we never will. Anyone that does gets removed.

I tried to relog but that didn’t help either.
