You are completely missing the point.

Skills mentioned are the ones I am using as examples. They promote awareness of situations. They don’t have to be copy-pasted into GW2.

If you enjoy all the things mentioned above, just say it. That is your opinion.

I am personally not a fan of certain things implemented into the game, and I express those. Feel free to express yours.

You know what I really miss? Skills that tell you did good when you use them properly. Here’s some examples:

I miss interesting ways to revive allies (at risks):

Instead this game contains a ton of passive effects that other-wise could have been incredibly interesting if used more actively. Examples:

The definition of fire-and-forget.

Could have been so much more interesting if it weren’t so passive and long cooldown.

What is the deal with the insane amount of cleaving attacks and AoE effects? It makes more sense in PvE due to the amount of enemies, but why does PvP have to suffer from this as well? I would love to see more target focused skills. Often it just looks like a cluster of effects. Being able to tell what is happening in PvP is one of the most important things to excist.

I have to mention the insane amount of leaps and teleports. Snares, knockbacks, knockdowns, pulls etc are enough interesting ways to think about one’s positioning. Some even abuse the leaps/teleports to reset lost fights while thinking about when and what to dodge could differentiate one’s skill from another.

Lastly, hidden information. Whether you are new or experienced at the game, you should always be able to see what is coming at you. This game, however, hides a lot of important information with Traits and Runes. I can’t express how important visual information is!

Personally, I am a huge fan of the original as it contains so much depth and rewarding play. I am aware it was difficult for a lot of people to get into PvP due to the sheer amount of skills and lack of guidance (other than the wiki).

You had some great ideas to give players a good sense of where to begin with their build by having weapon specific skills, allow for everyone to have a way to sustain with self-healing and a way to defend themselves with dodges.

But the way this has been implemented has downgraded everything by just constantly being able to hit whatever is in the area, disrupting visual information due to the cluster of effects and long and passive effects.

Guild Wars (1) is my most beloved game, to this day it is still so unique since there is no other game out there like it. Guild Wars 2 brings a lot of concern to me for the future, wondering if I will ever be able to play a game so unique.

I would love to create a detailed video/post to give more depth on this subject, but I am not sure if the game will ever change (since it would require a lot of rework).

And Anet shows no sign of excitement or whatsoever.

You guys should be kittening proud of what you have achieved with Guild Wars.
But apparently you don’t give a kitten.
You completely dropped the ball on it with the development of Guild Wars 2.
Guild Wars still has a huge potential, it’s unique and challenging, nothing like any other game out there.
Right now it’s sitting there to die over it’s time.

This is the Arenanet you know guys.
The game that started it all becomes 10 years, and you don’t give a kitten.

Thanks for the note, mahri. Guild Wars is a great game — I love it, as I can see you do!

The actual official release date was April 28th (as it was for Guild Wars: Factions) and it’s a day that we all keep in our hearts, as it was the start of something BIG for all of us at ArenaNet. It’s called Guild Wars 2 because it’s the second game in the Guild Wars series. Jesus. That doesn’t require it to be the exact same game. Rather, it kind of requires it not to be.

kitten if you refuse to like the game, go find a game you do like! It’s a lot more fun than complaining about one you don’t like but apparently play enough to complain about it.

I complain because I care.
This game carries the name of the franchise I love so much.

I don’t think GW1 was the perfect game, it has it flaws.
GW2 had the potential to bring it closer to that idea.

But instead everything that made GW1 so unique and enjoyable, they decided to delete all of that.

~Snip~

Now they are trying to build up entirely new game, but they’re doing it wrong.
I love LS but the game lacks real content, it gives you no reason to log in and play the game, because there’s no character progression and you don’t feel rewarded at all. Every event you do in this game rewards you with useless junk that you don’t need.
So whats the point of playing? To have fun? You cant have fun without rewards, and there is no fun by just exploring the world or farming for useless items, sitting afk or such.

~Snip~

This is your opinion, not everyone plays for rewards, and everyone has their own idea of what fun is. Fun is what you make it to be, it shouldn’t be created for you, if you can’t find the fun in something, then it’s just not for you.

As for the OP, this game was released with almost all the ideals that were stated in the Manifesto. It’s true the engine of the first game was lacking, but they also said when they announced GW2 that it was going to have a persistent world and not be instanced like GW1, that the format of GW1 was to restricting and they wanted Tyria to be a living, breathing world.

I’ve played both games since each ones very first beta week(GW1)/beta weekend(GW2) and I completely understood that GW2 wasn’t going to be anything like GW1, for those that were hoping for a direct sequel, you only set yourself up for disappointment.

They also mentioned there would be everything you love about Guild Wars.
I think with the more open and persistent world while staying true to the original, this game would be amazing.
Sadly, it’s something completely different.

This is it, you don’t like it shame. Not going to change things.

I didn’t really have a response to this thread til I read this quoted post.

No one asked anyone to change anything. Just pointing that out right here, right now.

The OP stated he desires a follow up to GW1, not a theft of names and places used to make an entirely different game. You have two camps here, and the responses will reflect this.

Camp 1: GW1 players who were looking forward to a new engine to GW1 expanding in to crafting (I guess) and such, to provide a new experience with the old game. This was pretty much sold as GW2 right up until the launch when it was clear the Manifesto was ditched.

Camp 2: Players who never played GW1 during it’s glory days and come to GW2 from other games. These are the ones typically stalwartly defending everything in GW2 and poo-pooing anyone who brings up anything with GW1 in the discussion.

And you are not going to get that game. Live with it or not that is the way it is.

There is nothing wrong to voice it out.

DonRobeez.3560

To be honest with the announcement of GW2 I was excited to see a sequel of the original.
I thought they would improve a lot on what GW1 didn’t do very well, as well as adding some new interesting mechanics into the game.

Sadly, I can’t call this game a ‘’Guild Wars 2’‘.
I don’t feel like I am playing in the same universe.
I don’t feel like I am on adventuring through a world full of legends and prophecies.
What the kitten happened to the PvP?
It’s a game full of techs and mechs, zergfests and players can just teleport/shadowstep/leap all over the place…

Since release I have been ’’waiting’’ for things to be added and I just feel like it’s not going to happen. Ever.

Been really craving for a sequel, I have been playing GW1 still for a while now but with the lack of support from Arenanet and the low population it’s just not the same as it used to be.

I hope one day we’ll get a proper sequel but I should just stop fooling myself I guess.

For those who keep saying ‘’but in the lore Guild Wars is…’‘, for real?
The name should also bring it’s game.

Was GW1 that bad to drastically change everything?
Hell no, it was something incredibly unique.
If I really wanted to play a different type of game than GW1 I would have been playing something else already.

I want to play a sequel of the original, not something completely different.

And there is no home for the Guild Wars 1 player. They can’t just go back to Guild Wars 1 – it doesn’t have the population to hold up its PvP or its elite PvE content. Guild Wars 2 is a completely different, and in many ways inferior game. Other MMOs are a laughing stock of bad design. The Guild Wars 1 vet community is, simply put, homeless and angry – and rightfully so.

THIS. This IS exactly how I feel. The game that I truly loved so much, played for 8 years and counting. I feel I got kicked in the nuts and thrown outside. It’s been over 2 years and it still hurts to see what they did to the game I truly loved. It wasn’t the perfect game, it was a game that was completely unique. But instead of staying unique and improving on it’s flaws they completely abandoned everything that made Guild Wars so amazing as they try and take off with something completely different.

DonRobeez.3560

Friendly NPCs are far more useless in GW2 than they are in GW1 though. The AI is just so bad in GW2 that an AI controlled version of a player character would just would not really fit.

In GW1 the AI was able to do everything that human players could, and would use skills somewhat intelligently much of the time as well (such as interrupts, healing, buffing/debuffing), they would maintain optimal range, falling back to try to lose aggro if they are heavily injured, etc. AI in GW2 is more like your basic RTS AI when told to auto cast their abilities off cool down, and told to Attack-Move

If you just want a bunch of zombies following you, attacking things at random, not evading incoming attacks, and hitting their knockbacks whenever they’re off cool down, just turn on your commander tag.

This is true.
NPCs in this game attack slow and use their skills poorly, which also makes it feel dull and boring.
An AI update would be highly appreciated though.

DonRobeez.3560

So I am still playing GW1 instead of GW2 these days and we have this Mercenary system there.
Let me explain what that is for those who don’t know what that is.

By having a Mercenary slot in GW1 you would be able to fill 1 slot in your party with one of your own characters.
It would play like any other NPC, except you decide what build he would use and it would use the appearance on how your character actually looks like.

So I was thinking, it would be cool to have something like this in GW2.
But how would that work?

Atleast, it would be nice to find your own characters in your own home instance.
You could communicate with them and they would respond depending on their personality, race and choices they made.
For gameplay you could fill a slot in your party with 1 of your own characters and it would show up in your story missions (perhaps even help in story dungeons but idk how that would work out).

I think this would make playing story missions less lonely (think most people do them alone), and it would also add some kind of roleplaying elements in the game.

Thoughts?

The Story in GW1 was not that amazing, but I have enjoyed it a lot more than the story in GW2.

I absolutely LOVED the competitive part of GW1, it was amazing!
For years on I was extremely dedicated and enjoyed every minute of it.

But when it comes to GW2 I feel out of place, like I don’t belong there.
They made GW1 for PvP but they decided to drop every aspect of it and went for a casual game.

I feel abandoned by Anet, they knew PvPers were dedicated to their game and yet they don’t give us support in their ’’sequel’’.
To be honest, if it didn’t say ‘’Guild Wars’’ 2, I would have NOT bought this game.

Guild Wars 1 is an incredible game but Anet gave up on those who loved everything about it.

Why are you still waiting for Season 1 Rewards?

Mine from this season are as voided as anyone’s and I was under the impression this was fixed.

I waited until there was a fix – then I open it tonight and get voided tickets…

Why are the chests still bugged?

And again, why are you still waiting for your Season 1 Reward? I am soooo confused!

Did you ever put in a support ticket?

EDIT! I went back into WvW and received another chest to replace the old one that was bugged… Could have put that particular information somewhere!

I am still waiting on my season 1 reward because I didn’t receive it yet.

Cannot get my Season 2 reward

in WvW

Posted by: DonRobeez.3560

DonRobeez.3560

TL;DR: Please do the following only if you have completed the WvW Spring Tournament 2014 meta-achievement:

  1. Check your in-game mail for 100 new Tournament tickets.
    1. If you don’t have this mail, skip the remaining steps and submit a ticket.
  2. Speak to the Battle Historian in-game, and note the world you’re Associated with in your chat window in yellow text.
    1. If you don’t see the world you expected to see, post here and/or submit a ticket. Go no further.
  3. Use the first conversation option to claim your tournament tickets.
  4. Enjoy spending the tickets as you please.

To clarify step 2.1, about not seeing the world you expect. If you’re in the same datacenter (NA vs EU) as the world you would expect to see, please do not submit a ticket to CS. This issue of not seeing your most-Associated world only occurs when both of the below are true:

  • You have some Association with at least one NA world, and some with at least one EU world.
  • The world you expect to be associated with is not in the datacenter you’re in today.

In this case, the Historian is telling you the world you’re most associated with in the current datacenter, since it doesn’t know anything about worlds from the other datacenter.

If you think you’re in this case, please submit a ticket to see about getting the necessary transfer(s) to claim your rewards from a world in a different datacenter.

Can you also provide us some information on this topic?

As myself and many others still have not received it yet due to transfer issues.

Now the same problem just raised up again with season 2.
Now finally one of your team members (Jessica Boettiger in particular) said I could contact support so I could transfer to NA to obtain my reward and then back to EU.

So hereby I request a possibility to transfer and obtain my reward.

We understand you didn’t receive the Reward Tickets. In order to investigate the issue we will need the following information:

Did transfer to a different world?
If so, please provide us the date you transferred.

2. I can’t recall the exact date but it was near the beginning of WvW Season 1.
3. When I visited NA I was in Jade Quarry for the few weeks I was there.

Received:

I tried some things but none of them worked.
- I tried getting in every borderland.
- I tried logging in on every character.
- I tried getting into WvW with the WvW Season 1 Reward Chest key.

Is there a possibility that I get a mail or something with the Season 1 Reward Chest from the server I was associated with?

Hello Robert,

We’re sorry to hear that you’re still having trouble claiming your rewards.

Now that the June 17th update has been introduced, please speak to the Battle Historian in any WvW map to get an updated tournament chest. That chest will contain the correct rewards and number of tickets for your placement in the tournament. You may sell any tokens received prior to the June 17th update to a vendor or you may destroy them, as you desire. Feel free to open any chests that you already have received and keep those rewards.

To thank you for your patience while we sorted out this issue, all players who completed the meta achievement will receive an additional 100 tickets.

Thank you once again for your understanding, we look forward for your reply.

Received:
Hello Robert,

Thank you for providing us with further details.

We apologize for the mistake as you were referring to the WvW season 2 rewards in your original request and this particular fix only works for Season 2 rewards, we’ve now returned you to your original server, at this point of you did not received the rewards for season 2 nor the extra tickets you might have not completed the meta achievement. Regarding the season 1, we recommend for you to post your issue at the forums since this is the best way to get to the development team.

We really appreciate your comprehension.

And finally I sent back:

No, the forums is not the best way to contact developers.
I (and others) have been posting about this for 6 months.

They only show awareness of season 2.
I would suggest you take a look at this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Issues-granting-Season-reward-chests

-snip-

You don’t need to earn the right to speak. If you interpreted my statement as saying that you shouldn’t speak at all, then I apologize.

What I’m saying is that your experience seems limited and it may skew the bigger picture.

I agree, you can have a solid idea of what’s going on without being in the top 100. Nevertheless, it doesn’t change the fact that the current state of the game isn’t the spamfest your described in the OP.

If the meta right now is “low risk, high reward”… then why can’t anyone form a team and beat the top players? There are a lot of teams out there and I have been fortunate enough to play with some of the top players.

People are calling “gg” before the game even starts when they don’t recognize the team they are playing against. The good players are known. The good teams are known.

If the game was as skill-less as you described in the original post then the same top players wouldn’t consistently dominate the way they do now, and there would be a lot more RNG when it comes to bagging a win.

Being a 5v5 format with capture points, the team that excels better at communication, composition and rotations will stand out above the rest.

What my main point is is combat.
It feels very simplistic, nearly everything hits multiple targets and there is little to no drawback on skill-usage.
There is no resource-management or anything that punishes you for using something.

- You can auto-attack and keep doing a ton of damage.
- You can spam conditions and not get punished.
- You can time a dodge/block/evade an attack that comes from stealth but it won’t reveal the attacker.
- You can become immune for a period of time with the click of a button.

These are just a few things that take away the excitement during a battle because they are so easily achieved.

But don’t get me wrong, this game has potential.
They just don’t seem to do anything with it.
It can be an amazing game but it needs some serious work.

im reluctant to say this to some1 who claims veteran gw pvp credentials, but you went overboard with this criticism, you are rushing judjment on gw2. play like this to any half decent enemy and you will be steamrolled with timed cd’s, positioning, and dodging your big hits.

Thanks for helping approve my point!

But in all seriousness, don’t take it like there is completely nothing like that to do.
There is obviously somewhat of it, but not as much to make it interesting.

like jasher said. i don’t think you’ve seen the challenge and found it easy. more likely you are yet unaware of it. try dueling, try rotation management, and you’ll know which way it is.

-snip-

While I agree that PvP needs some serious help, after reading your post I am left with the impression that you don’t know a whole lot about playing properly and you haven’t played against any good teams.

If you think the game is easy, try and coordinate some scrims against some top teams and win against them. Until you can beat the top players and actually rank up on the leaderboards, don’t complain about easy.

This game takes a decent amount of skill (even though people vehemently deny this fact). It’s also exceedingly obvious as you transcend specific tiers on the leaderboards.

Playing against a top 500 team feels very different from playing against a top 100 team.

In addition, playing against a top 50 team is painful for anyone who isn’t in that bracket.

I’ve playing GW1, I find the current game (GW2) a lot more fun to play that GW1. So, I’ll add to this thread by saying… yes, a lot of work needs to be done… but so far, it’s more fun than anything on the market right now.

If you enjoy GW1, go find a group of people who agree with you, and go play against each other on GW1.

Kind Regards,

Jasher

Why does one need to earn the right to speak of their experience in this game?

Not being in the top 100 does not mean you have no idea what is going on.

The current meta builds don’t even encourage player skill, they have low risk-high reward.
That part alone is why it’s not enjoyable to play.

I feel, in general, there is a lack of depth in this game.
Literally everything feels very easy to me.
Not saying here I am that I am super pro but I have quite good knowledge of the game.

From what I know, there was a pretty large group of players in GW1 PvP.
But there were names that popped of often there.

When I was new to GW1 PvP, yes it was hard for me to get into.
But that was because there was lack of a learning curve.

Once I got into it I noticed there was a lot of depth in it and that made it very interesting.
I applaud to those who played very well because I knew what it would take to act like it.

Instead of staying true to the original.
They took a extremely easy path and went for the most simplistic decision.

I guess the group of players that were dedicated and fans of PvP have no voice in this game.

Grouch being in the top 20 is not a good reason at all.

It’s about game design and being enjoyable.
Which for most people isn’t.

My thoughts about this PvP:
- Combat does not feel engaging.
- There is little to no excitement when fighting other players.
- Basically you use your skills when they are off cooldown with little to no drawback.
- Most of the time it feels more like a spam-fest than doing thoughtful processing.
- Almost everything is an AoE, there is almost no paying attention or targeting required.
- No skillful positioning, too many leaps, teleports and shadowsteps in this game.
- Combat feels like a mess, lack of overiew due to the big effects from most skills.
- While I like the dodge mechanic, it sometimes feels too spammy. Thieves in general can spam dodge and evades all day long. It turns down it’s uniqueness of the dodge mechanic.
- In general, it feels more like how much damage can you do while your opponent is defenseless.
- Game feels only like it’s about dealing damage.

Hearing the words ‘’PvP is close to what we want it to be’’ feels extremely dissatisfying to me.

I went to get Guild Wars 2 because I am a huge fan of Guild Wars 1, mainly PvP (started around Factions came in so that’s 6 years of playing!).
They told me they had big plans for PvP in this game and have E-sports in mind.
That meant a lot to me and set my expectations for me really high.
I expected an even more engaging, challenging and exciting game.
So, Guild Wars 2 released and after finishing (the already disappointing) story I went for PvP.
There I noticed there were only 4 maps available with little variety.
After getting more into and understanding it I noticed it’s a completely different game to the original.
From there, it only went downhill for me…

My thoughts about this PvP:
- Combat does not feel engaging.
- There is little to no excitement when fighting other players.
- Basically you use your skills when they are off cooldown with little to no drawback.
- Most of the time it feels more like a spam-fest than doing thoughtful processing.

Conditions, I want to talk about them…
There are classes that apply very little conditions (which is not so bad) and there are classes that can apply 10 different conditions within a few seconds (which is very problematic).
Then you have classes which have litte to no condition removal (which is pretty bad due to the amount of conditions that can be applied within a short period of time) and you have classes which can remove conditions on a constant rate, but still get overrun due to the fast rate conditions can be applied.
There is like no balance or drawback on spamming conditions.
In Guild Wars 1 you had skills like Draw Conditions (you take all friendly target’s conditions on decent cooldown, it costed energy so it had it’s drawback on spamming it) and Restore Conditions (cure all friendly target’s conditions and heal for xx per condition cured, again it costed energy so it had it’s drawback).

There is also a lack of consistency.
Instead of encouraging by diversity by tweaking things to be either a bit more defensive or offensive.
You encourage diversity mainly by stats (amulets, in this case).
Sure, it adds diversity but there is no consistency.
You can only expect how strong a class is at something by looking at the meta.
Classes can go either extremely tanky or extremely bursty due to these amulets.
You can not expect a good balance on anything.
A good suggestion would be to add more variety by these traits instead.

I like that you added a Deathmatch arena, it is more enjoyable to actually fight players than having to focus on capture points.

The original Guild Wars gave me a feeling that no other game could.
In all honesty, the only reason I log into this game is in hope that you guys see the light and look back on your roots and improve on that.
But having to hear ‘’this is close to what we want PvP to be’’ is extremely heartbreaking to me.
If this is true, I have no more desire to log in anymore.

Quoting this so that we don’t forget that some people still haven’t received their reward from season 1.

Do you have nothing better to do? S1 rewards were terrible, move on already.

Thanks for the update Mark. Never forget there’s thousands more people who enjoy playing the game, and who don’t wave their self entitled fingers all over the forums.

Does not mean I should not get my rewards for the effort I put into it.

Still love to see getting my Mini Dolyak and Tomes of Knowledge atleast.

Quoting this from Season 2 thread.

Tournament rewards for the World vs. World Spring 2014 Tournament will be available in the June 17th build. Once that build is live, you will be able to speak to the Battle Historian in any WvW map to get an updated tournament chest that has the correct rewards and number of tickets for your placement. Previously issued tickets will be voided with the build. Feel free to open any chests that you have already received now.

To thank you for your patience while we sorted out this bug, all players who completed the meta achievement will receive an additional 100 tickets.

Thank you once again for your understanding.

Only season 2 fix has been mentioned.
NOTHING about season 1.

Hi all,

We understand the frustration over having to wait to receive your rewards, and we appreciate your patience. The issue was very complex, and we needed to take the appropriate amount of time to sort it all out, and ensure a proper solution. We anticipate being able to provide another update with an ETA for the fix, soon.

Thank you.

Is the Season 1 fix included? It’s about time I can get the reward…

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DonRobeez.3560

DonRobeez.3560

I am someone who owns 12 characters.
It is already tiresome to level them up each, but I enjoy making unique and diverse looking characters.
Of course, I also want to play each character.
I want to play around with various builds but now I run into a wall.

Do you think I want to travel everywhere around the world, hoping to catch events so I can unlock a single trait for a single character on every character?

Sure I could spend gold and skill points to unlock them.
But I don’t have that much money to unlock them all on every character.

Then there is also the insane amount of skill points.
I don’t have enough skill points for them all on every single character…
It’s insane!
There are other things I want to do with skill points as well.

It may be fun for a first-timer to explore around the world and unlock traits.
But even a first-timer doesn’t want to do it again and again and again in the future.

Suggestion: make unlocks account-bound.
Once the event is completed once on an account, the player has various traits unlocked for his current and other (future) characters that are earned from the event.

Weapon Skins Going away!!

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/incredible-new-items-in-the-gem-store-4/

There’s your official announce.

They’re not permanently gone (probably) , but they will be off the vendor for quite a while. Long enough i wouldn’t even hazard a guess at a bring-back date.

Like any store, we’ll be regularly rotating out sets that are out of season or not popular to keep the vendor from overloading too many tabs.

You are not even sure they are gone forever?

I love the Sclerite skins and I am trying to collect them all.
Since the announcement the price has increased so much that I can barely afford any.
And with the removal they will only go up.
I don’t even want to spend real money on this game because it’s all RNG and everything I like keeps being taken away.
When I spend real money I want to be guaranteed on what I want to buy.
Not buy and hope I get something good.
If I want to buy it with gold I don’t want to farm gold for weeks for a single skin…

This game is more about the Gem store than actual fun.
