Cerise, your figure of being 10 times more likely to come out is unevidenced, as is your idea that the chance of getting a precursor with level 80 rares is lower than it was.
The price being 30g had to do with quite a lot of different factors; to suggest that it was 10x lower simply because the forge was 10 times more likely to spit one out is ridiculous.
Cerise is correct.
There was specific set of 4 level 68 rares that would reliably spit out a precursor for you.
Literally 1 in 10 attempts would net you one.
Then they fixed the “exploit” and now the precursors are about a 1/100 chance to get once now. And thats using level 80 exotics.
30g originally at 1/10 odds.
300g currently at 1/100 odds.
Looks mathematically sounds to me.
And on a more personal note. They should have left the exploit in. The current chance to get one is miserable and rather unsatisfactory. They really need to change this.
Am I the only one that thinks that this is absolutly insane?
I mean Anet really wants the “average” player to throw 1000’s of weapons in the mystic forge just for a chance at a precursor weapon for their legendary? Just seems excessive.
1. Where does all that gold come from?
2. Where do all those rare weapons come from?
On on hand, yes people are “entitled” to a legendary weapon. They DID pay for it.
My biggest gripe is the insance amount of resources it actually takes to get.
200 Skill Points
525,000 (250 Obsidian Shards)
120 Gold.
1 Gift of Exploration (100% World Completion)
77 Mystic Clovers (see below how to aquire them)
500 Badges of Honor
250 Globs of Ectoplasm
250 Vicious Fangs
250 Vicious Claws
250 Vials of Powerful Blood
250 Elaborate Totems
250 Armored Scales
250 Ancient Bones
250 Piles of Crystalline Dust
250 Powerful Venom Sacs
The 77 mystic clovers:
140+ Skill points
500,000 Karma
238 Mystic Coins
238 Glob of Ectoplasms.
And here is the problem with that list.
Most of those items have ABYSMALLY low drop rates. They are items that require extraordinary means in order to obtain. It is IMPOSSIBLE to acquire them simply by “playing the game”.
Take the Armrored scales for instance. 1 costs just over 4 silver. you need 250. thats 10g there alone.
Look at the lodestones that you need. They are 1g+ each and you need 100’s of them.
Look at the RNG that you have to fight to get the precursor weapon.
(What they should so is make the precursor 4 parts. You run 4 different dungeons get 500 tokens from each of those dungeons and then plop those 4 pieces in the mystic forge and poof, precursor weapon. Heck. Make a new dungon that has 4 paths that each one leads to a piece of your legendary. Either way.)
I Am almost convinced that they should have just left the mystif forge broken for the chance to get one. No, I am convinced.
And 120 gold. You do NOT get 120 simply by playing the game.
As cerise stated the legendary hunt is all about dumb luck and has nothing to do with effort and/or skill.
FOV (Field of View) Changes Beta Test - Feedback Thread
in Account & Technical Support

Its a nice change.
Its one of those things that you notice on more of a subconcious level.
With the fov change things look more “natural”
Easier on the eyes x1,000,000.
1. They will add in new races/classes.
2. There will be new starter zones for those new races.
3. There will be a new set of zones that makes a new leveling path.
4. There will be plenty more new level 80 zones.
5. There will be some elite areas (pretty much every mob is a veteran or champion mob)
I agree with you that 63k really isnt all that much for a level 80 in the grand scheme of things.
BUT considering that you need 525,000 karma (at the very least) for a legendary…..
In a word. Yes.
1. more abilities =/= a better game.
As the saying goes, less is more.
There is no 1 all powerful build. So you will be constantly swapping out weapons and skills based on what your going up against.
2. The community overall is really good.
With how the game plays people will almost always stop and rez or help out with dynamic events. (Especially if you call out the event and link the nearest waypoint).
3. The “endgame” starts at level 1.
You can get to 80. And you can get to 80 FAST but then you missed out on everything the game really has to offer. Its about the journey, not the destination. (and even when you get to your destination there is a TON of things to do still. Check out the sticky post on the players helping players forum.)
4. WvW = awesome.
SPvP = awesome. Admitedly though I am a WvW junkie.
PvE is really good. Most fun exploring and leveling since…
Jump puzzles are a blast to find and do. Especially the griffins roost bombing run. (Insanity)
Crafting is really good. (lots of complaints about how its worthless. You just have to find and craft and sell the things that others are not making and selling and you will do JUST fine.) And you get XP from it to boot!.
The “Send collectables to storage” is one of those little things that you really miss when you play something else.
ANYONE can rez. And you get xp for it too.
Everyone can participate in quests and dynamic events.
Everyone can gather any resource nodes.
I can guarantee that a lot of the features of this game will be copied and soon be appearing in other MMO’s.
The personal story seemed to be more of a chore the first time through. Playing through with an alt now and it seems they cleaned up all the bugs/balance issues quite nicely.
Bots are annoying. (They really need to get admins IN GAME running around that can view bots and insta-ban them.)
Gold sellers. (same as with botters. Then need admins IN GAME that can insta-ban gold sellers.)
But those are typical to any MMO so…kinda a minor gripe.
63k Karma for a rare weapon seems really ….high.
I have noticed that you get a number of the human T2/T3 weapon skins by completing parts of the personal story quest too.
My norn has the T3 human axe.
In the level 62 quest one of the options was the human T2 axe and horn.
Is someone putting a gun to your head and forcing you to play GW2?
no.
Then play something else.
Its the entrance to the secret dolyak level.
You just need to get the staff of the dead dolyak king to summon….wait, wrong game sorry.
Agreed with you completly finaldeath.
I did a fair number of them with my human character. They were not that terrible. But now I Am doing some with my charr and norn and ….its miserable. I fall and die or miss a jump because the camera gets forced close or clips my character out of view making it a matter of luck getting to the next platform.
I know they are working on some camera fixes. Hopefully those will do the trick.
WvW suggestion to combat nightcapping: Off-primetime Borderlands lock
in Suggestions
Posted by: Echo.7634
1. There are no breaks in war.
2. There is nothing stopping you from nightcapping and/or defending objectives at night.
3. What you are suggesting is locking things so that other people can ONLY play when you can play.
The crafting system is AWESOME. I love the fact that you get XP for EVERYTHING. IF you consider the amount of xp that you need in order to get 200 skill points for a legendary…
Grouping and socalizing is great in this game. Your not forced to group which is fantastic. And since you get XP for rezing people and ANYONE can rez.
Open wold PVP is aweful. Its just a gank fest, nothing more. Thats all it ever was in WoW too. There is a VERY VERY small minority pf players that want open world PvP.
Role playing. Again. There is a VERY small subest of players that want RP. And The bulk of those who “RP” barly do so.
I will agree with you that the simple act of giving an item to another player is a PITA and far more complex that it needs to be. Curiously enough, In the end, the mail system is EXACLTY the same but does not require proximity in order to use.
Hello haloween event !
Customizeable UI? The UI is minimal enough that customization is really a non-issue. IF you really take a look at WoW custonmization is REQUIRED. YOU MUST use 3rd party mods to play the game effectivly. You know exactly what I mean. (eg. DBM, Threat meter, etc, etc) I find it sad and pathetic that 3rd party mods are required to play. That means the developers failed at providing enough in game information to the player to effectivly play.
Traveling? yeah. All the way points are nice. Would I like mounts? …yes (please dont beat me anymore). Most MMO’s you spend a significant amount of time just traveling. Because you know, running from point A to point B on a fixed travel path is exciting. Despite the waypoints the world here is exciting to run around and explore.
And on “endgame”.
Its a word that has had it meaning distorted.
There is an entire thread dedicated to “endgame”. Its a mighty impressive list too. Its a shame people seem to ignore it and cry about nothing to do.
I will say this.
Maybe GW2 is not the game for you.
Maybe you should go back to WoW as it sounds like you enjoy that game.
The spirits are actually really useful. 20% does not sound like a lot but they actually provide a significant amount of uptime.
My biggest issues with the spirits are
1. They do not move (unless traited).
2. 60 seconds to plop them down again. Not such a big deal if they moved BUT….
3. The die if you sneeze on them. They are so rediculously fragile that even the slightest of AOE will obliterate them. Dead spirits are of no use.
Most of the time people are considerate enough to see that they brought their train down on you and will stop kill of at least slow them down so you can escape. I find very few people just keep running.
They are obtainable.
How depends on the race and class.
Some are crafted rare gear. Others are crafted exotic gear.
Some are cultural armor sets. Some are the level 60, others are the level 80 sets.
I would suggest that you run around and explore the world. You should come across them all at one point or another.
You need, at minimum, 525000 karma for your legendary.
May want to save up.
I kinda agree with the OP.
It would be nice to see rares/exotics drop in the world with a bit more frequency.
Its a real let down to find a fancy chest or complete a jump puzzle or kill a zone event boss and get ….a bunch of blues.
I dont mind the lack of drops in dungeons since you do get tokens to get nice gear with.
But then again I guess thats what the magic find gear is for right?
(edited by Echo.7634)
If Level scaling was gone would you feel motivated to visit lower level areas again?
Posted by: Echo.7634
Agreed. The down scaling is great.
You still get Xp, Karma, and Coin from DE’s ( and at a level 80 rate too).
You also get higher level (74ish) drops from many mobs as well.
And sorry. But ALL of the US servers are either HIGH or FULL during prime time.
For now.
Funny, I thought those numbers only stay like that due to how server transfers work and that the “status” is only a placeholder for how many accounts reside there.
IE: Status means next to nothing.
IF it were only a placeholder for the number of accounts residing there then the status would never change. The full servers would always remain full and that is simply not the case.
Funny. In GW and now GW2 the “most important part” is missing.
And yet BOTH games are highly successful.
I Am sure there is someone here that is not getting something…
Diablo 3 died because blizzard killed it.
First they nerfed IAS (increased attack speed hard). …OK it needed done thats fine.
They forced you to play online.
Then they limited the number of instances of games that you could start.
Then they gave rare and elites enrage timers.
Then they gave rare and elites heal back to full health when out of combat.
They effectivly eliminated drops from chests/breakable items.
They made it virtually impossible to farm for gold and/or items in a game that is ALL about farming for gold/items.
And the number 1 thing that killed D3….Real money auction house.
They have added in a lot of nice features since 1.03 but the game is already dead and NO ONE Cares.
Torchlight 2 is everything that diablo 3 should have been.
Dungeon Defenders is closer to what Diablo 3 should have been.
GW2 is not doing to die out anytime soon.
WvW is amazing.
SPvP is amazing.
The PVE questing and dynamic events and exploration are supurb.
The dungeons are a lot of fun to play.
And sorry. But ALL of the US servers are either HIGH or FULL during prime time.
PVE is just PVP vs bots….Thats all, nothing more. IF the classes/traits/skills are balanced around PVP then they are inhearently balanced for PVE.
Its this “One build to rule them all” mentality that causes the divide.
Its not confusing.
Run around and explore the world.
That will answer 99% of your questions.
Charrdy La Forge.
Charrbert Einstein.
Alexander Charrbell.
Charristotle.
I think you get the idea.
1. Server transfers are currently free. There is nothing stopping you from moving to a higher population server.
2. (you may not have noticed )All but 1 US servers are “high” of “full” as far as population goes.
I think you missed what AndyPandy is suggesting and why.
The chance to get rare materials includes getting materials of the next tier up.
White and blue items net you very little raw materials and a small chance for upgraded materials to begin with. They DO add up over time though. Using expensive kits to salvage these will not get you any more than you are already getting.
The mystic forge kits on better items will net you more raw materials and have a decent chance to also provide you with rare/exotic crafting materials as well. You know….the ones that you need to make exotic and legendary weapons with.
1. Most dynamic events (DE’s) are quite soloable.
2. When a DE pops up….did you say something in map chat and link the nearest waypoint? 500g says you do that and more people will show up. its kinda like magic.
I am also willing to bet that people did not upgrade their gear. Gear matters!
AC is VERY manageable especially if you pony up a few silvers and buy yourself a set of rare (yellow) gear at 35 for explorer mode. It cheap and it makes a big difference in your damage output as well as survivability.
Swap out skills that provide boons (buffs) for the party. EVERY class has boons that bennifit the party.
Swapping out skills based on each encounter.
Weapon swap where appropraite to maximize their effectiveness.
IT was mentioned that you can dodge attacks but many weapons allow you to BLOCK attacks (which means you take 0 damage) as well. Hightly useful. Same with BLIND. It makes the next attack miss. Again for 0 damage.
Different game requires different approach to dungeoneering.
PS. Artorous guide(s) for dungeons are VERY well done. (+1! )
What they should do is put chests out in the world:
1. Guarded by a champion.
2. Require a black lion key to unlock and open.
3. Contain a(n) rare/exotic gear, crafting material(s), Coin! , Karma! , XP!
4. 1 week respawn timer in a new random location.
I Also think a part of the “solo” feels stems from the fact that this is a great MMO where you do not have to be in a group…. to do group content.
Professor Farnsworth “Hermes, Incentivise that employee!”
( as seen on Futurama: Benders Game )
I have to agree with the “skill” based approach they took with Gw and GW2.
By allowing everyone have have access to the same quality gear the competition in SPvP and WvW is fierce.
Not only is the competition fierce but the available pool of players that can participate is LARGE !
And in fact Guild Wars Trade never has it falling below 35s for 100 gems any time in the past month.
I got my 3rd character slot of just a hair over 2 gold. I think the trade was 26s for 100 gems.
Character slots are 800 gems.
That was pretty early on though.
I 12th this.
Considering Vanilla is a tier 1 ingrediant and used in a bizzillion and a half recipes….They should really bump up the drop rate on them.
I get that everyone wants to eat omnomberry bars and thats fine but the limiting factor should be the Tier 6 ingrediant ( the berries ) and NOT the Tier 1 ingrediant Vanilla.
PS. If you could add in Vanilla coke that would be great. Thanks.
I am inclined to agree with the OP on this one.
As it stands there are PLENTY of gold sinks in the game.
Travel, Armor repair, death ( which is travel + armor repair in most instances), Selling or buying on the trade post, the bazillion customizations options, crafting, the “mystic toilet” and of course the biggest gold sink of all….legendary weapons.
In all honesty why even have you pay to switch in the first place? Considering they let you learn and max all of the trade skills why limit you to just 2 active at any 1 given point in time? Seems slightly counter to their design philosophy.
CoE (Crucible of Eternity) has a set of gear with +MF (Magic Find ) on it.
The catch is you will still need to buy a set of runes for it.
I think all of the vendors offer 3 different sets of armor. YOU can find out by going to each vendor and checking what armor sets they offer.
1. Buy from the trade post. By far the fastest, but also the most expensive.
2. Craft your gear. Depending on how much you have gathered on your journey it can range from free to expensive.
3. Buy gear with Karma from the Orr vendors.
4. Run dungeons. (I would probably suggest buying or crafting a rare set of gear first to make your life, and that of your party, that much better)
Mesmer.
You get to pull people. Off keep walls too , its a lot of fun.
You have a knockback.
You can turn people into a moa.
Stealth and AOE stealth.
Skills that make it really painful for ranged attackers to attack.
Skills that give/strip boons.
And of course skills that make people puch themself in the face. My particular favorite. Especially against thieves since they can punch themself in the fast harder and faster than anyone else.
Cape/Banner/Cloth Clipping and YOU! Lets brainstorm ideas about how to solve an issue which has plagued video games for years.
Posted by: Echo.7634
Considering how much and varied the movement is in GW2 (running, swimming, dodging etc) there is a LOT that needs accounted for.
Doing a backroll to dodge and having your cape flipped over your head (realistic) may not be a desired result.
There are several places you can get “end game” armor. ( I am assuming by best you mean end game)
There is no PVE armor.
There is no PVP armor.
Armor is armor.
You can run dungeons for tokens and exchange those for armor.
You can use karma and purchase armor from the various vendors in Orr.
You can use the trade post to buy crafted armor.
You can level an approprate armor crafting skill and craft your own armor.
You can PVP and exchange those tokens for amor.
(edited by Echo.7634)
If your going glass cannon your probably more interested in the superior runes of the eagle.

Most of them involve jumping to my death.
Jumped off the edge or a rock into the water. Didnt realize that the water was only an inch deep. The death pose was epic and I dug in head first with my rear sticking up in the air. The guy that rezed me got a good chuckle too.
Jumped off a rock trying to hit the water. Hit another rock on the way down, and then another, and another… and another. ( think plinco from the Price is Right ) only to find the miniscule sandbar in the water…and die.
Chasing people over a cliff edge in WvW to get the kill.
Actually taking the teleport out of CoE. I was like Holy kittens this is a long fall. And then I hit a rock and died. (just kidding, I didn’t hit a rock, but I feel like I should have)
The LA jump puzzle. I actually hit the water. Shame I was already dead when I landed. I laugh becasue I actually hit the water and not a rock or shallow in the water.
Please make our characters smart enough to auto-attack when idle and being attacked. Currently, our characters just stand there and wait for input—which is slow.
So you mean your want Anet to make your character bot for you.
Guardian Greatsword 5 has a pull component to it. The range on that is 600 which is pretty close.
The mesmer one has a 2 part component to it.
The temporal curtain. Range is 900.
The pull is only 550 units but it pulls TO the temproal curtain.
With it you could technically pull someone 1450 units. But again. In order to get someone off an edge it needs to be unobstructed. If there is even the slightest pebble in the way it will prevent them from being pulled.
Necromances Spectral grasp has a range of 1200.
Same scenario. The attack requires LOS in order to pull the target.
I always go for 100% completion along the way.
I also try to do as many of the DE’s along the way as possible.
Some nights are great because people will /map the event and the nearest waypoint for people to jump in. Not so many people seem to do this anymore though. Its kinda a shame.
The 1 map I have issue with is Gendarren Fields. Its a 25-35 map and I have 4 characters that I have played through the zone. ALL 4 were 100% complete at level 29 or 30. I am not sure why this particular zone is so stingy with the XP…but it is.
And the last time I rolled through I went slow over 3 days gathering everything, participating in the DE’s multiple multiple times each day. And still came up WAY short on XP. That got me from 24 to just shy of 31.
There are also TONS of chests and splended chests as well as jump puzzles. More incentvie to explore as you go.
They already stated there will be NO RP servers. Too much overhead.
However roleplayers have decided to make Tarnished Coast (NA) and Piken Square (EU) the unofficial RP servers.
Its not an exploit.
As I just explained to you.
Mesmers focus #4 attack has an ability that will yank you from where you are standing.
Maybe find a better location where attackers will not have LOS on you so they cant yank you off the edge.
Don’t blame poor gameplay for “broken game mechanics”
At leave 80 I am going through the charr starter zone for 100% completion.
On DE’s I am getting level 80 xp, karma, and coin.
I am getting level 80 xp for finding the map POI and vistas.
I am getting low level coin for completing the quest hearts. (and thats fine with me since they are so trivial).
I am ALSO getting level 80 drops from some mobs. Got a level 74 rare pair of gloves from a veteran mob.
I ALSO got orichalcum ore from salvaging a level 14 white junk gear drop.
Not sure if the last 2 points are bugs or working as intended. BUT the point is the ENTIRE world is endgame.
Go enjoy it.
I know that mesmers focus 4 is a speed/cripple boon/debuff wall.
The secondary effect is a pull.
I think its totally awesome that you can yank people off the walls. I have had this happen to me several times. I like it because it really adds an element of danger when defending WvW objectives.
And no, It does not work through walls. You must have LOS on the target and it needs to be obstruction free to yank them down.
Suggestion that /may/ make them more useful:
“shatter” to charge.
So the Mesmer spits out 1, 2, or 3 clones.
The initial charge of the mantra destroys the clones and gains 1 charge for each clone destroyed.
The mantra can than be use for its charges and then it would encounter its CD.
This makes them better for longer fights (not so front end loaded)
Ties their use in with the clone/shatter mechanics already in the game.
Meshes well with existing traits.
May even make a mantra healing mesmer more desireable. ( shatter to heal, rather than damage)
