I used to click as well, but after playing Tera, where it’s more or less impossible to click, I got used to using keybinds. While it can be rather annoying at first, training yourself to play differently, it does pay off in the end. Sometimes I use both mouse buttons to move, and sometimes I use WASD. It’s basically preference, but you will probably get much better results if you do not have to rely on the mouse click for the skill (which can be faulty, for various reasons). I wish you luck!! It just takes some practice!

Why can't we sell food to vendors?

in Crafting

I’ve thought this very same thing. I’ve eaten a lot my food, destroyed quite a bit (even with the achievement) and placed a lot in my guild bank. I think the reason they have chosen to remove the option to sell to a vendor is because of ingredients being purchased with karma (you also can’t sell ingredients on the TP purchased with karma, it becomes account bound). They have basically removed any cash flow though karma purchases (you can’t sell or salvage). I really do wish you could sell it, even if it were just a few copper each piece. I sell my other wares to vendors all the time if I don’t try for the salvaged materials. I am totally in favor of selling our food to vendors.

Why does Anet hate chefs?

I would definitely be in favor of placing the lower level ingredients in higher level zones for karma, but then they would have to lift the “account bound” status from karma purchased ingredients because you currently cannot sell karma ingredients to a vendor or on the TP. I would also be in favor of being able to sell my food to a vendor that I do not personally have a use for and have it stop filling up the guild bank (or just having to destroy it). I know that they did this so people wouldn’t be able to make a profit from karma purchased items, but it seems a little silly (to me) to not allow a person get some money for the effort of the craft. I enjoy cooking (good filler profession for all characters to get rid of some mats and to help level) but it’s a little annoying that I don’t find the benefit of most food positive to my character and thus, need to destroy or store it.

Experience for this is gained while being in the same area and not going through a portal. You must get all the experience in one session without switching zones (I think waypoints are okay). This can also be gained while crafting, if you do that. The progress will stop when you change zones (even going to and from a city).

As far as traits, the first set unlock at level 11 (10s for book), while the second tier is level 40 (1g for book) and the third and final tier is level 60 (2g for book). Each time you purchase a new manual, it will reset all your traits for you. Also, there are places you can pay to reset your points if you don’t want to wait for new manuals. The only one I’ve noticed is in the inn/tavern just outside Divinity’s Reach. I hope that helps.

Also, if you check out the wiki (link at the top of the forums page) you can look up what the ranger traits are and what they specialize in if you have specific questions (Go to professions and then click on the traits section under Ranger).

Cultural armor transmutation

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Elle.8064

Elle.8064

I think this achievement is about collecting the cultural armor from EACH playable race. The wiki lists up to 5 tiers of cultural armor, with only 4 total listed, and I have only seen 3 in the game. It does state that the achievement wording is a bug that is does not indicate how many pieces you have collected. This achievement appears it would take quite a bit of time and money to collect the gold and level the characters for the armor (for the title, anyways).

Mounts [Merged]

in Suggestions

Posted by: Elle.8064

Elle.8064

I would vote no on mounts. If they introduced mounts, it should be a reward for the following: reaching level 80 AND having explored 100% of the map. The mount would also not have any speed increase and would be purely for looks only. Also, if riding in a zone, you would not be able to “run away” from mobs, and would be dismounted upon aggro. Perhaps a bit much, but I don’t think GW2 needs mounts. The first game didn’t, and it’s one of my favorite things about these games.

Thief Dagger/Pistol combo is now useless

Elle.8064

I guess I’m not sure how to respond to your dagger/pistol combo problem, but you can use other combos if you like. Thieves don’t have the lowest number of weapon choices, that would Engineers with 4 options, followed by Elementalists with 6 options and then Thieves have 9 options (I assume this includes underwater weapons, but the numbers come from the wiki). The damage reduction was only in the top portion of damage dealt and it deals more the less health the target has. Can you hit the target with some damage before using the pistol to blind and then use heartseeker? Just a suggestion… again… I haven’t played a thief extensively.

PLEASE let us wear our sPvP gear "outside"...

Elle.8064

It’s probably because ANet has made it rather clear that the two game modes are meant to be completely separate. You work hard for you PvP gear so other PvPers can see your achievements and know what it means. The same works for those who have done PvE. Work hard for you PvE achievements and it is displayed for those in the PvE environment. While it would be nice to show off each of these to the “other side,” it’s just not how it was meant to be played.

Titles weren’t prominently displayed in GW1 either. You either had to click on the person, or hover over them to see titles (and the rank of it). While it would be nice to see titles sometimes, I enjoy having the name system be rather simple. This is merely my opinion. I’ve been wearing my HoM title since I started, and sometimes I click on people to see if they have one on as well.

Allow sPVP to Level Characters

in Suggestions

Posted by: Elle.8064

Elle.8064

I think ANet said they really wanted to keep PvP and PvE separate. If you want to PvP at level cap, you can do the sPvP, and if you wanted some to level with, then you do WvW. Regardless if you want to level in PvP, I think they made it this way specifically so people won’t spend their whole time in PvP maps. This game is meant to be explored, via hearts, vistas and general exploration of the map, and if this doesn’t really fit with you, then I’m not sure what to say except that you can continue to be “level 80” in spvp, but you also need to work like the rest of us who did the zone exploration to reach 80.

I’m not trying to sound rude at all, just as a note.

Elle.8064

PvE and PvP are meant to be, more or less, completely separate. The game focuses on skills and builds instead of your gear… and to me, this is how games should work.

Also, I’m not sure what you were referring to about GW1. Players didn’t craft gear, unless you mean you gathered the materials, took them to the npc and paid to have them crafted, because that is how it worked. Also, as far as PvE vs PvP character, the PvP-only characters always had full access to all abilities and upgrades for armor and weapons when you went to outfit your character (I may have purchased stuff from the store, but it was a long time ago). PvP in this game is meant to provide you with everything at your disposal, and then you create what you want for that type of combat. PvE takes time and you need to work for the gear, while PvP makes you work the glory, honor and rank. Also, the level range was 1-20, but it works the same here when you hit 80 and you continue to gain skill points.

Keep the two separate, it works really well.

Technically, you paid for the skill and other various things with this edition (I bought this as well) but the trade off for the skill is that it was an automatic elite skill that you didn’t need to invest points in to receive. So, in essence, you didn’t need to have saved up the other skill points to get one of the other elites to use when you turned 30 (I saved points, but maybe it was just me). But, if the other skill you mentioned has a shorter cool down and lasts longer, it’s the better option to use.

I would think because this skill came with a special edition, it would have different restrictions compared to skills everyone can obtain through progress in the game.

Extra skill points

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Elle.8064

Elle.8064

I think GW2 will be similar to the first game where skill points will be used as a form of currency for various things. Right now, it’s a lot of items for the mystic forge (place various items in the forge to create a better item. Check out the wiki for possible recipes that have been discovered). Skill points are unlimited in accumulation, so you don’t really have to worry about running out. But, also to note, legendary weapons and really good items will take several of these (in the hundreds) so just be conscious of what you’re spending them on.

This quest is a little confusing. You need to follow what the quest says, but it’s not always entirely clear. For the most part, you don’t actually fight a lot of the undead. You need to defend, then talk with people, then use certain things, etc… Try to follow where the green burst is, that helps a lot.

I actually used to click most of skills before I played Tera (my mmo before GW2) and that game does not allow you to click at all. It’s just a matter of time and practice to allow yourself to no longer click. Tera had you use your mouse buttons for attack skills (no using those to move, unless you remapped your keys, but that just made it more difficult anyways). I know it seems games don’t allow for a “clicking play style” but it really just takes some practice to learn the new bindings. I haven’t changed any of the current settings and I still hit 6-0 with my left hand. lol Play however you feel most comfortable, but know it might be easier if you practiced the other way, too.

We really need a decent, measurable, critically important reason to become more powerful.

This sounds similar to what WvW is. They worked hard to make PvE and PvP separate, which is perfect. The dynamic events would get kind of messed up if you had to worry about enemy players coming and killing other players. The way the game runs currently is perfect, but this is merely my opinion.

I also enjoy the leveling in this game. I rarely notice what level I am because I’m too focused on what the game is offering me in the form of hearts, skill challenges, vistas, etc. I am very happy that ANet designs their games in the way they do. I enjoy GW2, and still love the first game.

I’ve liked the idea of having a “pass” purchased either from a vendor or the store that would allow you use it to teleport to areas without a cost, but has a cool down. This could be for areas like the major cities, or major towns in each zone to save on the travel costs that distance and level provide. It could have a set number of uses, like salvage kits, but would be easier on players who are generally either low on cash from various aspects of the game, or help those players who just don’t want to spend their money on anything. lol But, I would then say you have to pay for the waypoints in a zone (still free in cities) without increased cost from their current price.

I would also suggest that it only show players as “online” if they are currently IN the game, not on their character screen. As soon as someone logs into their account, they show up as online. It can be misleading if you’re saying “Hello <name>” and they actually aren’t there.

I’m not sure if they don’t announce a player’s online/offline status because players can change that at any time they are online. It wasn’t announced in the first game either. It might be to give players more privacy and to not have the “hello” spammed to them as they sign on. Players can also immediately mark themselves as “offline” from their friends list, where I believe you still see guild chat, but people cannot either see you there (online in the roster), or whisper you (although you are not actually invisible in the game lol). Again, another feature from the first game.

If they did add a LFD tool, I would vote it be like SWTOR’s where it is not multi-server, so you keep the sense of community on the server. It also makes people more responsible for their behavior and/or actions. Personally, I wouldn’t really want one, but if they chose to add one, I think that would be the better option.

It’s too bad that overflow already makes you jump around to every server in the game. :/

They have also made it that if you happen to be in an overflow map, you can still party with people, remove the rejoin queue for your normal server and that the overflow group still can run dungeons together. I’ve barely played in overflow maps recently, being level 58, so I didn’t really think of them. My comment was more or less aimed at people on their normal server, looking for a dungeon party.

Human Cultural Heavy Armor

Each race has a different set of attributes on their armor. It could be more of a specific racial thing and what they represent. Norn are rather hearty, so having toughness and vitality seem appropriate to me. Charr have power, critical damage and precision, which also seems normal since they attack hard, fast and precisely. Part of me thinks the cultural armor is more for looks and to use transmutation stones over armor that has more preferable stats then something you wear exclusively at level 80. It might be good to start with, or have as an extra set.

Actually, a race change should not be implemented. It is also not the same as WoW. In WoW, Alliance and Horde are not significantly different except for starting zones and races on each side. Your character is not really that significant to the world around them, and the story doesn’t really revolve around you.

During character creation, you choose very specific things about yourself, how you view the world, what your purpose is. To change this very thing about your character, would more or less, alter your destiny as a living thing.

I’m all for barber shops or appearance changes through the gem store, but I am pretty sure that ArenaNet will not give players the option to race change their character.

Also, you are supplied with five character slots, and given the option to buy more. I am assuming this will be for unlimited amounts as it was in the first game. You could have more than 20 slots if you wished to pay for them (I know, because I did that in the first one).

Edit: Also, to add in. When does your race change fit into the story line? Do you wait until you reach 80 and have fully completed your own personal story to not have to have any left on another race? How would you go from being a Sylvari at level 35 and then change yourself to a Norn and “continue” with the story? There is a lot to this, and the game is meant to be explored and experienced through your personal story. Your race is very important and should be chosen wisely at character creation, even if it means you read all the questions before making your character, or doing research on the wiki to see what the questions are and fit with you best.

Copper will probably sell for more simply because more people need to purchase it to start crafting in a few professions (weaponsmith, armorsmith and jeweler all use it). Also, it seems iron ore is much more abundant than copper ore (from my personal experience). Also, as people level up, they are moving away from copper and have moved on to iron and silver. Iron is more common than silver, so more of it probably being sold on the TP. I do a lot of crafting, and more or less, if things aren’t selling at a price I’m willing to pay, then I don’t buy.

I’ve never had an issue with bag space. I have not purchased any additional bag slots, but have purchased one bank slot. I carry 10 slot bags, and while questing, I generally have about 3-4 salvage kits, an extra set of harvesting tools, my HoM port and about 5 or 6 different types of food. I don’t think I’ve had my inventory be full. I deposit all collectables after each heart and/or event, salvage all materials and then place in the bank. Then, I sell all junk to a vendor after each “quest.” Perhaps I’m just odd about my bag space. The only time I wish I had more bag space is while trying to discover new cooking recipes (so many ingredients!) lol

I am not sure if this is a bug but someone posted they could only transmute their gear once with the gemstore set. They tried to transmute it again and couldn’t transfer the look on to a second set.

If you are unable to transmute new armor with the transmuted/gem store skin more than once, then it’s a bug and should be reported. You can transmute new armor with the stones you get from map completions.

They wouldn’t be able to have each armor piece go to each character because I think each armor type has one armor costume to wear (light, medium, heavy). I wouldn’t be opposed to having a costume area though without having to transmute, but the current system isn’t horrible.

Progression and Crafting

Keep in mind that it is going to be difficult to go to low level zones to grind out crafting materials because even though the zone is lower level, you will still receive drops around your own level to the zone (you’re level 20 in Queensdale but you’re scaled down to level 5. The drops will probably be around 16-18 in level).

Just remember to carry salvage kits and salvage everything you get (at least this is what I do, and sometimes I still need to purchase scraps). Also, the fine crafting materials will go from needing 3 to 8, and if you purchase the special intricate designs from the vendor, those will require 15 fine mats (vials of blood, claws, bones, etc) to make one piece of armor. But also remember that you can discover each component of armor (chest, leggings, feet, etc) with EACH insignia recipe (so each one you get can make six pieces in the discovery tab as long as you craft six of the same insignia). This provides a lot of experience to your craft and also to your current level.

Also to note, the more materials something takes, and if you make items of the “rare” quality over something like masterwork, it will yield a bunch of experience. My husband was able to craft an amulet today of rare quality where it provided him with a base experience of 30,000+ with a bonus of 14,000+ experience (this was around 300 Jeweler and the item was level 65).

So, just remember to discover all you can. Even if you have to mix and match insignias or whatever component your crafting discipline teaches, use it! Remember to purchase some (or all, if you’re able) crafting recipes from the trainer using karma because those will yield with the highest discovery experience, but also cost the most materials.

Sorry the post was so long. I’ve been dealing with my own professions too (230+ tailor, 220+ jeweler and 210+ cooking at level 55). >_< lol

I’ve purchased from the gem store around ten times or so and I have never had a problem. I would also suggest cleaning out your mailbox like Bina said. You can only have ten items (including heart rewards – delete often!), and sometimes if you delete some mail, you will receive other items.

Also, I read on the game status updates on the wiki page that addressed this issue or something like it. If you are having trouble with the gem store, they should refund your gems, and you would need to repurchase the items again. And if you would rather just not deal with the gem store, you can always sell your gems on the currency exchange for gold.

Gems are purchased with real money for a set amount, or if you have the in game gold, you can buy them through the exchange program on the Trading Post (second tab, I believe). How the Trading Post "Should" Work

Posted by: Elle.8064

Elle.8064

I salvage everything I get for the materials to put in my bank for bag space. I sell my junk to vendors. Things I sell on the Trade Post would be food or crafting materials I no longer use. I’m not sure who has read the guide associated with the game, but it clearly states that if you’re doing crafting to make a profit, then you probably won’t make any money. Until you max a crafting profession, you will probably lose out on the items you make. I currently skip around through three professions and I either salvage the items I make, or just sell them to a vendor. Once I max these, then I will start with the post. Since the post is global, it will be really hard to sell anything right now. Another thing with the guide, it states that the longer you decide to sit crafting is less money you’re making when you could be out killing mobs or doing events. That is where money comes from. It’s being in the environment, not trying to play the market.

As far as gems, it’s probably just a glitch and should be up and running soon enough. It could be a couple hours to a couple of days, but things usually get done rather quickly. If people are having an issue, they should open a ticket.

I’m not sure if this is the proper place for this and I’m not sure how ANet monitors this, but it was a suggestion I had and was wondering what others thought of this.

Would it be possible in the future to allow players to take out an entire section of a collections tab at once? We are allowed to “deposit all collectables” so it would be very helpful to be able to take entire sections out at once, instead of clicking each piece individually (the ingredients tab for cooking is a great example of this). I would think something at the top of each collection section to “access all collectables” would be great.

Is something like this already in the game and I am completely unaware of it? Or is this something that has appealed to other players as well?

Class trainers are used at levels 11, 40 and 60 to get the manuals to apply traits points. If you’re concerned about your skill points, just open the Hero Panel (H) and you can see how many points you have and what is available at your level there. Also, trainers have little books above their heads, and it only shows your class trainer on the map. Just look for the Npc’s with books above their heads.
