All I got to say is this patch is a maker or breaker. If they do more to promote unskilled, zerging mindlessness, I’m out.
So in March Anet said they are adding a WvW reward / title system.
(previous thread was moved to suggestions for some reason)( this isn’t a suggestion ANET said they were doing this)Now I dont know how they will do the reward system, but if it is similar to the realm rank system in DAOC it could help to promote less zerging, more defending.
If the system rewards players MAINLY for killing other players and the amount of damage they did.
You will see alot of players who want to raise their rank so they will start to stray away from the zerg so they can get more credit for player kills. you might actually start to see alot of roamng 5man groups picking off people and looking for other small groups.
another thing people dont think of from DAOC was taking keeps JUST to defend and make points form enemy attackers, SO you might see groups taking towers and actually staying there to defend.
They reward system would also need not have a cap that could be obtained in a few months, refer to the DAOC realm rank system that get progressively harder where rewards eventually get few and far inbetween, so you keep building your character for years.
Now if the system follows the karma, big reward for taking undefended keeps and avoiding player kills, this system will not fix anything

You don’t have a clue what you are talking about. The large scale three-faction PvP map called Conquest in Rift is the poster child for what happens when you mix team objectives and individual objectives in PvP. It totally ruins everything for everyone by creating different motivations for being in the map. Want to know what happens when a group heads off to take an objective only to have half of them split off to capture unrelated individual kills? Map chat gets filled with angry comments between players on the same team and everybody quits because of frustration. Commanders already get frustrated when members of their group get distracted by gathering or farming mobs. At least now that sort of thing is minimized because players can do their dailies or farm for gold outside of WvW … just imagine what it will be like if players actually get significant individual rewards for non-team activities that can ONLY be found in WvW.
Besides, as Conquest proved in Rift, adding individual rewards for kills does the exact opposite of what you say. It strongly ENCOURAGES zergs because players can get kills much faster that way. How can you not see that? Why would you run with a small team looking for kills when the likelihood is that the enemy will be running around in a zerg looking for easy meat like you? The ONLY people actually pursuing map objectives will be the ones who either prefer that style of play no matter what or who already have max’d out whatever individual rewards ANet may have added. That’s exactly what happened in Conquest and that’s what will happen here unless ANet is extremely careful.
I see far more downside to the proposed changes than upside.
I’m sorry, but Rift’s godawful PvP system(s) shouldn’t be compared to anything.
I’ve made one in spite of this thread – 80 full exotic, etc. Most fun class I’ve played so far and is a beast in WvW. You have to look past big numbers and look at the big picture.

Maps need to be bigger and they need a reason to spread out the players on maps better too. I like the idea of the ellimination of swords that has been mentioned a million times. Subtle stat progression would be great, too.

Well, what 9 servers are stronger than Mag? That’s the only way to get pushed into T4.
Mag’s a T3 server now. The bandwagoners didn’t jump ship on Sunday as planned. You guys are just going to have to deal with it or spend the gems to go to a server that actually belongs in T4.

I really, really hope FA has some roaming guilds. Last time we fought DB they had zip, but FA might be different. I’ve been stuck in tpvp all week because it was the only place to get a good fight. Would like to get back to wvw.

3200 Armor isn’t much better than 2500 Armor. As a Thief, I tested this with a Guardian buddy of mine who changed servers to test it. With 2500 Armor, I killed him in 2.5 seconds, with 3200 Armor, I killed him in less than 3 seconds multiple times, so he went 100% into toughness, with toughness food, and such, putting his Armor to (if I remember correctly) to 3400, maybe 3500 Armor, and I killed him in just over 3 seconds.
Here is the kicker. I havn’t taken the time to upgrade my level 78 Exotic Beserker gear either.
The diminishing returns on Toughness, as it relates to Armor is drastic, not like the massive benefits we get from Power, and Precision, not to mention the extremely large pool of itemization you get from having a high critical hits, from food, and sigils.
You should take into consideration that Guards are one of the classes with the lowest scaling HP pool. You need BOTH vit AND tough to properly mitigate; especially on a guardian. Do this same test with a warrior.
There is no reason any AoE ability should do more to a single target, than a single target ability. You shouldn’t even argue that, ever.
What you should be trying to get them to do, is make it so that our AEs hit MORE targets, say 15, instead of 5.

The zerlings in that video were like moths to a bug zapper. No fault, but their own.
That video should show you why superior play should outweigh superior numbers.
Daoc was the best PvP game. Ever. Hopefully the upcoming patch changes that..

IMHO the rally and downed state in WvW is a flawed mechanic in general.
Because fights typically move around.. The areas to the left and right of the lakes are a good place to cut off reinforcements.
You can still keep the lakes, I’m just suggesting to make them smaller.
I wvw every day and I can say is that not grandfathering is most likely the beat way to do it at this point. There is not enough cheese in the world to go with the whine that would come from the people who have not wvwed becuase of lack of rewards if we got something they didn’t.
Well, to be honest, screw those people. We played a thankless game with few rewards and no progression for months. Many left the game in droves while we did not. ANet denying all of the achievements we have to date would be spitting on us. The audacity that players who quit WvW could complain about something that we earned. That would be like me complaining that I don’t have enough fractals relics to buy a back piece, but ANet should give me one because I just started yesterday and it isn’t fair.

If you fight at the edge of one, you can roll into the water and get a second heal. I like that, and it has saved me a couple times.
This is what I mean by “wilson.” I do it myself when the opportunity arises, but it is still lame imho.
What are your thoughts on these? Personally, I avoid fighting in the water, because it isn’t fun. More often than not, if I am winning a fight and my target gets to water I just let them wilson.. In my opinion they are WAY to big.
What would you think about much smaller lakes on the maps to provide a better roaming area to pick off reinforcements?

Character progression via WvW is awesome, as long as it isn’t gained by player vs door.
I wouldn’t mind world bosses in WvW IF culling and queues weren’t a problem. Would bring in a lot of bads to blow up =D
If they bother you with it, just use the ignore feature and they go about wasting their time..
Keep your gear current to your level; the stats on your gear will scale based on this. Focus on Vitality/toughness as a warrior and you should be a lot more durable.
Since you have trouble getting around I’d suggest one weapon set sword/warhorn.
Protip: Toughness and vitality are severely underrated.
Rangers are free kills. Class need to get fixed.
