My guild has fought Maguuma before a few times, we know how they WvW, their great I give you that, but we have seen them before, as well as beaten DB before a few times in the past. I’m waiting to see what happens on the field next time we see them, here’s hoping to a great match with them again.

With all due respect (And I mean that non-sarcastically, I desire no drama to arise from this),
DB got a bunch of new guilds too since the last time RE fought us, and our NA crew is much larger than it was then as well. It should be a different experience than it was the last time we met.

Maguuma as well, received many more transfers than we did (But I’m sure you watch the situation, so I don’t need to educate here).
I think the next two weeks for Kaineng are going to be quite a bit more difficult than people expect.

Kaineng makes easy points overnight like DB did before. And while Kaineng’s Asian guilds will probably be able to overcome DB’s nighttime guilds (If the whisperings I hear about WM are correct), it certainly won’t be a +695 blowout all night like you’ve been having.

I’m making no predictions about what daytime will be like,
Because DB has never fought Kaineng or many of the guilds there; with the exception of RE. And even RE hasn’t fought DB as we are now.

Kain as of right now is not a tier 1 level not even tier 2. Kein hasn’t been in actual fights yet. they blow out servers every week for the past 2 or 3 weeks? and thats it. Next week they will probably face DB and Kain will have to put up a fight against em and week after that Kein will have to really fight against the some of the top servers in the game. Thats where we will see how good Kaineng really is.

While I know they have some of the better wvwers in the game right now, I think they’re going to hit a wall in the next week or two.

You will only find nightcap and zerging QQ in the lower tiers. Higher tiers understand that WvW wins are determined by population and coverage, so saying a server only wins by nightcapping is like saying a server only wins because they are better.

I wouldn’t call tier 4 a “lower tier”, except in the sense that it is a tier lower than tier 3

One of the main reasons I spend all my time in wvw instead of sPvP is because of food I can use.

Omnomberry Pies have changed my WvW playstyle and effectiveness by quite a bit. (The lifesteal also bypasses the camp supervisors who still have the buff after being flipped. Fun fact.)

I think there are probably things in WvW that weren’t intended to be used.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Skale Venom was removed, many other PvE Consumables like that don’t work in WvW and I suspect Skale Venom was just an oversight.

As far as craftable consumables go though, it’s an extra layer of customization and a way to be a little more unique in wvw, and I definitely support its continued use.

(Omnom Pie and Master Maintenance Oil are my consumables of choice)

Hi, I’m on FA. That was kind of silly to dance on your corpse. Sorry that happened. You want some help killing sentries? It’s possible even on level 24, because your stats are ranked up in WvW. With Green armor, you can kite a sentry well with most classes. Otherwise take advantage of blind (or any other damage decreasers) if you are a melee class. Keep in mind that if you are soloing a veteran sentry you’d do it the same way you solo any sentry in PvE, and they aren’t hard as long as you get some practice.

Yeah, just let us know when you are on En Rohbie. We’ll get the whole guild to come give you a hand with those mean sentries.

The EB jumping puzzle as of about an hour ago was surprisingly neutral. Lots of folks from FA and CD in there, but nobody was fighting. Everyone was just minding their own buisness.

Now, to the [Lime] guild camping the JP in DBBL. Next time you decide to dance on somebody’s corpse, you may want to try doing it to someone that didn’t kill you while on the wrong end of a 1v2. No bad impression taken from it. We are starting to get a little annoyed at CD tactics. Is is like they are just playing for 2nd and will do anything to take us down. When FA was assaulting our buggy hills which cant get supplies from Astral still, CD was blockading our reinforcements on the NW gate side. Right now DB is 3 pts under from being able to stay in tier 3 and CD heading down to tier 4. umm no, the outer gate has been down for well over two hours, I know because I logged off at 3am or I risk oversleeping and missing work.

There was a try to take down south keep gate, then trebbing/cata which we wiped with a treb on the inside, then third time around you built trebs farther back so we can’t take them out.

So yes, the timestamp is wrong because the Bay battle was a long kitten one.

Is it simply possible that there was more than one attempt on Bay? :P

It’s nice to fight halfskilled thieves that aren’t abusing culling, and I’ve noticed far, far less culling thieves in tier 3 than I did back in tier 4. (Maybe just a coincidence, but I don’t mind)

The match this week is going more or less how I expected it to.
I was excited about this week, so that’s a good thing. :P

I expected CD to be the ones winning, but the transfers make it obvious that FA has the strongest presence right now. (Waking up to see DB at only +300~ is something I haven’t done in a long time)

I do, however, like how similar in strength both CD and DB is right now,
And considering I’ve been waiting to fight CD properly since the last match with them months ago,
I hope we’re seeing a lot of each other in the coming weeks (Even if we get knocked back to tier 4, it’s not like we won’t be back.)

It’s an example of intelligent play beating a giant moronic zerg.

I agree that it’s a good thing,
But I also think AOE still needs to be adjusted somewhat.

More targets and less damage, I would really welcome that change.
It would make AOE more effective against a large zerg (So people couldn’t just stack in numbers and be essentially immune to aoe), but the lesser damage would stop one or two elementalists from being able to stop a whole zerg.

Even though I haven’t gotten into wvw yet and probably won’t until tomorrow (Friday night being my drinkin’ night and all), I really like the scores I’m seeing right now.

As a server, I notice DB’s least effective time is on reset night and the first half of the weekend and then after sunday we tend to really shine during the week. So I’m excited to see the rest of the week, and I can’t wait to get onto the battlefield tomorrow

The fact that we’ve only lost one week of wvw for the past couple months is a better advertisement than making threads gloating about our server anyway (The Christmas week wvw match with Yak’s/Mag we lost. NNK is a WvW guild, they have been very clear about that from the beginning (Not the beginning of this thread, the beginning of NNK). They spend their time working on group mechanics, not PvP mechanics.

Let’s uh, not get this thread closed less than 12 hours before reset. That would be pointless, especially since we’ve had such a civil WvW thread for the past week.

As a Mesmer, I’m actually really happy about this.

There are times when Portal is useful, and I’m okay with that, I use it myself for people at those times.

But there’s also times where people use portal just to skip content and be lazy players.
I’ve never liked helping those people (And usually don’t.)
For example, I don’t run the whole EB Jumping puzzle just to help other people skip it.

I would love other classes to get a Portal-like mechanic so that everyone stops automatically expecting the Mesmer to be a portal kitten just because there’s one present.

I have been watching Crystal Desert’s scores since it became apparent we’d be going up a tier. I have been looking forward to getting back up in tiers to face you guys again, as I believe last time was a few months ago and we performed quite poorly (Guild exoduses and all).

I was thinking about making my own thread this morning, actually, that was pretty much exactly this.
The server recruiting is getting stupid, I hope it slows down with paid transfers.

Some of the threads I’ve read recruiting for servers (I’m not gonna name anyone specifically, or any servers) were so full of arrogance and dripping with self gratification that they were far more offputting than attractive.

People don’t realize it just takes one kitten on the forums to make your whole server look like jerks.

Conversely, some server recruiting threads have been pretty respectful and well written. But I think we’re past the time, with paid transfers announced, where you can recruit for your server without looking like you’re just grabbing at bandwagoners for easy wins.

I, for one, only try to advocate for transferring to Dragonbrand when people PM me privately to ask questions because they’re already thinking about it.

D/D Eles are my least favourite class to fight, as a Mesmer.

I would take on culling-abusive thieves any time before a skilled D/D Ele.

Shatter mesmers will burst you constantly. They can line their skills and illusions up pretty well and hit you with 5+ sources of damage in under a second, and all of the Shatters can stack over 10 stacks of Confusion on you so you just get hurt more as soon as you try to engage or heal. I’ve watched my opponent’s HP drain so quick with my bursts that I don’t even see it go down, they simply go from 80% HP to Downed.

Watch where the real mesmer is.
If the illusions are ranged, and then start walking, don’t let them get near you because it means they’re going to shatter. Dodge roll at the right times.

Honestly, you will get a lot of insight into mesmer strategies and how to counter them by leveling your mesmer more.

Other than that, the best I can suggest is that you play aggressively and hope you Down them before they Down you. If you play defensively against a Mesmer they can literally just toy with you and troll you for as long as they feel like.

Judging by next week’s scores here, its unpredictable if Dragonbrand will flip or not with IoJ or FA. Extremely close. Looks like Yaks Bend doesn’t want to drop anymore so they give Ehmry bay everything they got now, and EB if you want to stay up there instead, just earn second place.

From this YB player’s point of view, I’ve noticed that NA DB has upped their game this week. A combination of xfers and just plain playing better. Of course, YB and EB focusing each other doesn’t hurt.

Assuming the situation holds, you’ll be in T3 next week. It will be interesting to see how you match up with CD in particular, due to their similar coverage. I think you might just hold your own. Should be a fun week for you all, regardless.

From this DB player’s point of view,
I’ve been looking forward to a rematch with Crystal Desert since the last time we were matched with them after we lost our wvw guilds and they rolled over us.

I obviously don’t speak for the entire server, but I might just be focusing most of my concentration on CD during the first week back in tier 3.

I also almost transfered to Crystal Desert a few months ago (Due to it being my favourite GW1 location, and me being disheartened with the DB WvW scene like everyone else at the time), so I’m curious to see if my decision to stick around DB has been rewarded

You don’t need to stick around and deal with their kitten. Just back the hell off till they get visible again or spam traps, marks and every other kind of auto trigger AoE for detection.
It’s not like it’s hard to deal with a team which did blow half their cooldowns for a sneak attack.

Because I really don’t care about culling, I’ve stated many times that I think it’s much less of an issue than people think it is.

But all it takes is a Mass Invisibility or two for an entire group to get their sneak attack. That is far from “half their cooldowns”.

As of very recently, Dragonbrand is higher ranked than Isle of Janthir by .2 of one point.

If things remain steady, it shall be tier 3 for us next week.

I do enjoy being a mesmer Commander, it has its perks.
Perhaps not more than any other class, but it works fine for me.

Why does it seem like that most ppl feel that the DB NA Night crew have never vsed servers that have the same night crew number as them. We stayed when guilds like Tsym ditched us for sea of sorrows. Oh yea, and it was after we vsed servers like jade quarry. We have vsed those servers and we have gone up against their night crew. Not saying we will definitely win, but the Night crew of DB have been here in Dragonbrand for a long time. We didnt always just PvDoor, it was only when we dropped down the tiers when our big NA guilds ditched us for sea of sorrows.

Don`t take this the wrong way but most of your NA guilds will do it again once you start to lose. Cause I`m sure most of them are fair weather players and with your night crew may also when faced with servers that have night crews who ‘get this’ fight more than just doors.

Other than the recent transfers, the guilds we’ve had were just about all around since before we started winning regularly. Those are anything but fairweather players.

I’d like to clear up that I never intended to imply that thieves have been completely untouched. As has been said, every class has received some level of balance. Mesmers have received a lot of it though.

The point of my original response was “Mesmers get complained about on the forums all the time”, as that was the piece of a post I was responding to. It was neither me complaining about Mesmer nerfs nor me complaining about thieves needing more nerfs. Just a response to “no one complains about mesmers”.

Welcome to the game. I’m guessing you are new here so just wanted to suggest you look back at the change logs. Then you won’t say things that do not make sense. All classes have seen nerfs and buffs in an effort to balance the classes.

It was definitely not directed at you, it was a general statement about leadership (both in WvW and in life). I know you wouldn’t blame your zerg for doing what they’re supposed to since I’ve run with you dozens of times. As I said, the rest of my post was under the assumption it was just a statement.

As long as there’s like 5 people in my zerg that read teamchat and somewhat listen to me, I have no complaints about how things go usually.

Only times I ever get annoyed with the people on the map is when I know we have a population present but no one’s communicating on teamchat and no one shows up to places under attack even when requested. Usually I’ll just head to another BL when that happens, I definitely try not to be the commander getting kitten off on teamchat. :P

I honestly don’t mind vapor form /that/ much.
But, I have guildies that I like coordinating ridiculous things with, if I ever had a real problem with vapor form I would just get like 5 mesmers to coordinate pulls to get him way far from the gate before we killed him.

I’m well aware this is not a practical plan for a lot of situations, but the mechanics aren’t that broken.

I would consider it a completely appropriate patch if they nerfed it so vapor form doesn’t go through portals though. They don’t need to change the skill at all otherwise.

There is no system in the world that’s ever going to compensate for server transfers, or guilds taking a break from wvw, or differences in primetime play hours.

Pretty much this. We use gliko to help make sure the matches end up being somewhat competitive, but no systems can really predict and react immediately to constantly changing populations.

While glicko may not be the greatest thing to use for tiered competition, I think it’s actually worked fairly well to help ensure that a large portion of our matches end up being competitive. We haven’t been seeing nearly as many lopsided blowouts happening as we continue to have more matches being played out and then feeding those results into the formulas. The obvious exception to that being the worlds who either lose or gain large amounts of players in a short period of time and get caught in a matchup where they get dominated or are the dominating force.

However, even with all the issues glicko presents, we have seen that while it takes a few weeks for the system to adjust to the population shifts, it DOES adjust, and eventually those worlds end up playing in competitive games again once they reach a tier that suits their current population.

And yes, we need to get paid server transfers in. We all agree with that statement, and we’re trying to make it happen as soon as we can, while still making sure the guesting system is as useful and easy to use as possible. We’re agonizingly close, so hopefully soon we can stop talking about it and just do it!

When you say payed transfers, does that mean it will take irl money to transfer? OR in game money to transfer?

I don’t think it’s any secret at this point that we all need to sweep better for mesmers.

Honestly, if servers did a perfect job at sweeping for mesmers every single time, mesmers would not still be bothering to hide.

Zergs don’t stick around towers for more than 30 seconds after capture very often.

Zergs tend to stick around about as long as their commanders do.

I’m not sure if this is a quip at me or just a statement, I’ll assume the latter.

Every character in a zerg is a fully independent human being with a brain that can go “Maybe I should stick around and check out hiding spots in this tower while the rest of the zerg moves on”

It’s a waste of time for everyone to mesmer sweep one tower for 5 minutes, but any one of the people in the zerg could opt to stay behind and verify the tower is safe themselves.

I know I stay behind and mesmer sweep all the time when I have my Commander tag off.

Saying the Commander leaves too soon is a huge copout.

Not that i want to side with him but there is science that does lend to the idea of MoB mentality. But there are steps the commander can take to make sure such actions are delegated and taken care of.

There’s nothing particularly special about me or my brain, if I can break mob mentality and realize “hey, I should sweep this place”, there’s no reason to believe that anyone in a zerg can’t do the same.

People use zerging as an excuse to not think while they play, and it shows when it happens. Commanders SHOULD be asking a few people to stay behind and sweep towers; absolutely. But if they forget, that’s not an excuse to just… not sweep.

But for the record, I delegate tasks like a mofo when I’ve got my tag on.
If everyone on the map read teamchat and followed orders my zerg would probably be about a quarter of the size of most Commander’s just because I’d send groups of them off to do things (Obviously there are times that bigger numbers are better, but in a lot of situations I opt to spread forces out a bit instead of just having one rolling deathball on the map).

Portal bombs are one of the easiest tactics to counter.
I’ve seen far more of them fail than I have seen succeed.

First of all, our guild on SOR relies on the tactic, and if I think someone is doing to us, I run. In general, please explain to me how 20+ people not loading in to the enemy can be countered? Im assuming you know how the mesmer bomb works and how culling is a problem.

Sure “kill the mesmer running in.” In big keep battles, you will never see it coming
By “easily countered” Im assuming you mean kill the mesmer, right? Im talking about battles of 15+ each side, in where the mesmer stealths into you to begin with (thief help).

Culling is only like 40% as bad as people claim it is.
Tab targetting doesn’t care about culling,
auto-targetting doesn’t care about culling.
AOE damage doesn’t care about culling
If you have any idea what direction your enemy is in, you can still target them culling or no culling.

And the thing about Portal Bombing, is it gives you a big bright purple round target that says “FARM THE 20 PLAYERS STANDING RIGHT HERE”. Because 19 times out of 20, the group that goes through the portal will not be smart enough to scatter when they come out the other side.
