Our week in tier 4 was anything but “easy mode”,

As the scores are going now, next week will be DB/Ehmry/Yak’s in tier 4,
That’s not going to be an easy fight for any side.

Our oceanic coverage is good, but above tier 5 they can’t fight the whole battle for us (And we definitely belong somewhere above tier 5. No offense to either of you servers, but I don’t want to be 60,000 points in the lead on Sunday morning any more than you want to be 60,000 points behind on Sunday morning) , so we’re beefing up our NA force.

It’s Easy Mode. Everyone knows it. In another 5 days all this will be forgotten, assuming GW2 ’s Scheduling can catch up to current events before the next reset. But considering the Lag time, BP and DH will be looking at a minimum of 2 more weeks of this Epic Fail.

Yeah, this week is easy.
I didn’t deny that. But we will very likely be seeing tier 4 next week and the easy week will be over.

It’s a problem inherent in a system where two neighbouring tiers (5 and 4) have such a different level of competition.

We belong in tier 4, the fight last week was very close and we only fell behind during the last couple days. Even with a few new guilds running around, we’re not going to go back to tier 4 and dominate all week, we’re going to be fighting for it.

I don’t pay a lot of attention to guild names from opposing servers unless there’s masses of them in my face all day every day.

We had to mow our way through enough BP camping it when I got there so we decided to stick around for a bit C:

Couple points.

1) When RE leaves, the last DH guild fielding 20+ numbers routinely in WvW will be gone. Saying the WvW scene on Darkhaven is dead is silly, saying that the organized WvW scene is dead, is accurate.

Last night DH had a queue in DH bl, a queue of up to 15 minutes, a queue that lasted for several hours. DH was barely able to hold onto one keep for much of that time. And certain random DH commanders were exchanging our partially fortified keeps for freshly flipped towers, simply because that is where the karma and coin and experience were at.

I hope DH organically builds some new WvW guilds, but that process is going to take at least a month or two. Right up to the February patch, where everything is going to get shaken up.

2) WE have been scouting servers for about two weeks, and considering a move since before that. We talked to some of DB’s guilds last week, and it is only through the vagaries and oddness of the glicko rating system that DB somehow gained rating, yet still fell back to Tier5.

3) Why Dragonbrand? WE did not want to go to a tier we felt we had not earned, nor did we want to drop down to lower tiers. We know that Dragonbrand has its own history and flaws. We know it has no centralized alliance or website, and we know that the language barrier between us and the Taiwanese guilds will make combined operations trickier. And we know that as part of DB’s primetime force we will largely be outnumbered and on the defensive.

But we’re not afraid of those challenges.

The language barrier isn’t that much of an issue, don’t be worried about that.
There’s a lot of Asian in team chat during certain earlier hours of the day, but much of our Asian population can speak enough English to exchange basic wvw information, at least, as I’ve participated in their morning zergs on a few occasions now.

I’d like to point out that, for a server that everyone is crying apocalypse about “dying”, Darkhaven is ahead of BP in potential points and very close to them in accumulated points.

They’ve obviously got some force left. I would encourage DHers not to be too demoralized, it’ll hurt your wvw experience more than a lack of organized guilds ever will.

I’m always willing to welcome new guilds to Dragonbrand, NA prime time is our weakest time and, luckily, the easiest time to fix.

I agree that our oceanic coverage saved the server from falling to like tier 7 before we stabilized, but as many have said, our NA crew is growing and coming back to wvw, we depend less and less on the oceanic crew every day. It won’t be long before we’re capable of the same level of coverage and effectiveness nearly 24/7 and that’s going to be a beautiful day for Dragonbrand.

Greatsword has been my weapon of choice for Mesmers since I was like level 50.

Mind Stab doesn’t bother me anymore, it did for the first few weeks. Last two months or so though I’ve found more uses for it. The boon removal is useful, even if unreliable. I’ve used it to strip retaliation off bosses so many times that I would otherwise just kill myself from retaliation. Though it’d be awesome if it was a blast finisher, the prestige on torch is a pain in the kitten to synergize with fields.
Even in wvw though, I can land Mind Stab without much difficulty, and it does have it’s uses.

I can’t imagine why Illusionary Wave is considered limited use, it’s one of my favourite attacks. The cooldown sucks but the knockback is endlessly useful. An AOE knockback even better.

The AOE burst damage possibilities with Greatsword are awesome if you synergize it well with shatters.

Yes, we have a strong Oceanic presence, also I would like to reiterate that the NA presence is building stronger as well. The coordination that I have seen on this world compared to the others is second to none. More often than not, I see several guilds… all from Borlis … attack EACH OTHER in the forums… makes no sense to me. I used to play on Borlis… so much drama, they were all so busy typing and arguing in game and on the forums, no wonder things aren’t being accomplished… No offense intended, I’m just calling it how I saw it.

Even just fighting them last time, I got the impression BP guilds are usually at odds with each other.

I gotta say, our NA prime time has strengthened over the last few weeks.
It started picking up after the first fight with Darkhaven four (five?) weeks ago and has gotten only stronger since then.

We’re at an interesting spot where our weakest point of the day is most server’s strongest point. If we were to bring more people to Dragonbrand who play during NA prime time (This is especially contingent on people not leaving Dragonbrand), we would be much more influential during all timezones.

You’ve stuck it out with Dragonbrand since launch and so have I, so I know you’ve seen improvements since all the guilds left and we were lucky to ever pass +100 in wvw all week.

PS: While I know some tier1-3 servers will claim to have this awesome wvw experience, it’s very likely that every server suffers from the same problems you’re having in wvw one time or another, so you may leave only to find the situation no different where ever you go to.

WvW matches are finally starting to become balanced and we don’t need people throwing everything to kitten again.
The only server it will benefit is the server you choose to move to, just about every other server is going to suffer because of it. (Whether they lose guilds or get stomped by you as you rise in tiers).

I say this as a Commander and as a high ranking officer (seemingly your exact audience) in a guild from Dragonbrand.
Leave the server balance alone, people already have so many reasons to be demoralized from participating in wvw, don’t make this another one.

You were up against bigger opposition this week than you would have been any other week due to many of Maguuma and Yak’s NA players being able to stay up all night over the holidays to combat our prime time.

Question for DB oceanic players. Not being a jerk, but want to know. Is it boring or fullfilling zerging through EB, MBL & YBBL with undefended keeps, camps etc. and taking the entire map with no opposition? As a NA prime player I have never experience that.

Now, I haven’t played with the oceanic zerg yet this week so I don’t know what Mag and Yak’s are like at that time,
But last week everytime I played with the Oceanic zerg, there was definitely always defenders.

The population today may be noticeably non-existent, but that should be understandable given the day.

We actually outrank Maguuma in ratings now,
So if we hold a lead like this Maguuma will drop down for Ehmry Bay instead.

I had actually realized and been worried about the exact same thing.

I like being in tier 4 and would like to stay here for a few more weeks.

If DB fairs well enough over the rest of the week, we could get enough points to move above Maguuma in the ratings, then Maguuma would be the one dropped to tier 5. It would be rather disappointing if we were to win this week (Great match so far) only to drop back down to tier 5, but it doesn’t really look like Ehmry Bay wants to stay in tier 5.

These threads are making me sad lately.

I still maintain if you see people exploiting on DB; report them.
I don’t want them on our server and I don’t want them to be part of the reason we win.

But calling out the entire server as cheaters on the forum is going to do nothing. (especially without screenshots or video, I don’t think Anet bans on hearsay)
Out of the hundreds of people participating in wvw on any given server, there’s like… 5 to 10 posting in these threads from each server. Major chances is that the exploiters don’t even see these posts and all you’re doing is throwing accusations against the legit players.

Report it and send it off to Anet and let their admins do their job.

Necros are the most efficient and effective class against Mesmers.

Maybe there are no good Necros that have ever faced Dragonbrand in wvw (It’s the only PVPing I do), but I’ve always considered Necros to be one of the easiest targets for me to beat ._.

Thieves have a chance to at least be annoying if they abuse culling and stealth, only because they don’t actually stay visible long enough for any of my attack animations to finish. If the first burst doesn’t kill me though I usually win (I have pretty good reaction time so the first burst very rarely does kill me)

I was unclear on which he was referring to as well, but I hope the same as you.

Shattered Strength is the first real buff we’ve gotten in a while (Ever?) and I’d like to not see it nerfed immediately after it was buffed.

All it does is allow us to get the kind of damage using like 6 skills that other classes get from 2 (Or one, in many cases).
And really the only times that it’s hard to avoid a shatter is if the mesmer is right in your face and pops Mirror Images then Mind Wrack right away, in any other situation you can sit there and watch the clones stroll casually towards you, shatters have got to be one of the easiest attacks to the just straight out dodge in the game, they should be worth it when they connect.

I think this is the first time we’ve been in the lead on Saturday morning (Not that 200 points is a huge lead), we usually have to pull out of second place on Sunday or Monday.

The match isn’t over yet. If DB wins, congratulations, they made a good push on Thursday. It is actually they’re NA prime players that should be congratulated though, the Asian players have an easy time playing two servers asleep, but they are actually putting up quite a fight at NA prime time and blocking BP from making it back up like it was in the beginning of the match. But we never know, maybe BP will still be able to push a bit more before reset.

We have already learned quite a few tricks with DB and we’re putting them to good use.

All in all, we have loved playing against DB and DH this week. Putting all talk about cheating and all that jazz aside, you have been worthy opponents. DB and DH definitely are not the same as AR but with more numbers. You guys use siege in a different way, you use different tactics, you sweep of mesmers, use AOE stacking, etc etc.

If we do not win, we will still be happy with the great job we did this week.

Dragonbrand has been doing extremely well tonight.
I’m excited to see the score when I wake up in the morning.

I would honestly rather the whole spies vs. exploits conversation die.
It’s not showing a good side to either server, and I’ve said everything I have to say, and am sure BP has done similarly, on the subject. Rehashing the same posts over and over again will get us no where.

And clearly we’ve reached a stalemate where nobody is going to believe anything that the opposing server says anyway.

With that said, onto a new topic:
the score right now is really exciting.
Dragonbrand tends to do worst on the weekends and then get stronger as the week progresses, as I’m sure you’ve noticed and I’m sure Darkhaven can attest to.

I do not very often see us in the lead for ticks at this time of day, this is a good week for wvw. (Not to say we’re stomping, as I’m writing this we’re +295 with BP at +285, and we’ve been trading first place back and forth for a little while now)

I would much rather deal with having been hurt by a spy after the fact, then spend my time being proactive against spying to the point that the game is no longer fun, friendly, or inclusive of new folk who want to feel like they are part of the team. Why? Because this is supposed to be fun.

In my experiences on Dragonbrand, we are not a server that has ever been particularly paranoid about spies.
As I said, it wasn’t an accusation I ever even saw made until a screenshot of our teamchat was posted.

I think many of the dedicated wvw players understand that spies are a reality whether we like them or not, but nobody likes it when someone up and posts a screenshot of it,
Either way, we don’t go on witchhunts for spies or anything, and we didn’t after that post last night either. I didn’t even see it brought up in team chat, I had whispered a few people (Like Edgar, thought he should know) about it to give them a heads up, but it got more attention in this thread than it got in our server.

I’m not thrilled about the shift in attitude either, I was looking forward to a clean week of fighting.
But if I recall, the first week or two of our fights with DH had some grudges too.

Overall we’re a pretty humble and sportsmanlike server.

I know I wasn’t the first person to bring up the idea (I thought of it on my own, but I take no credit for thinking of it first), but I did bring this up in another thread the other day.

I’m still in favor of the idea,
Or really anything that gets people defending.

Whenever my server zergs through a borderland and then leaves to another map,
I’m usually one of like only 10 people who actually stick around to defend the place.

It makes me a little sad that the meta game in wvw right now is to stretch your army so thin that you can’t defend anything effectively. There really needs to be more incentive to want to keep territory and not abandon it.

I have like 90k karma. (I’ve spent several hundred thousand though)

Some of the cultural weapons are pretty cool, so I spend it on them.
Sometimes I just buy kitten I don’t need because I feel like spending karma.

I had bought a set of karma armor some time ago when I was new to the game and since abandoned it.

All I have to say is that even though these guilds have left, or a thinking of leaving, our smaller guilds are stepping up to the challenge. going to give a shout out to some guilds I have seen lately just so the darkhaven people that come to the forumes to read and not reply can see that we are not going down unless its in a blaze of glory.

These small guilds make a server. No one big guild can hold all borderlands together. It is you that we rely on and it is you that we turn to when we need that extra 30 supply or someone to add to a zerg. We will need all the small guilds to work together more then ever now seeing as were loosing more and more people.

I will personally be with darkhaven all the way down. Whether we stop our own fall and stand up or hit the bottom. We will eventually stand and we will eventually get stronger.

I really had awesome fights in this server, I’ll also stick with this till the end, it’s my home server since day 1 and I really consider it “my home”.
I, atleast for now, just play as a pug, but always team up with people to get camps, sentrys, zerging and defending the best way I can.
I just recenetly got around to do WvW (a month), but since then I play atleast two hours of it a day, sometimes more and I’ve already learned a lot.

Thanks for all the great commanders and each and everyone of you who play with us, let’s stick together in this hard time and get stronger again!

As we’ve said, Dragonbrand suffered similarly a while ago.

It’s not going to be a fun ride down the tiers, I can tell you that.
But once you get to the tier that is right for your server, people will start to WvW again and you’ll start to get a foothold back.

It’s just hard to convince people to participate when they’re demoralized.

You have no idea how many times (Well, you probably do now :P ) I went to map chat in LA a couple months ago to ask for people in WvW to only get “Why? What’s the point, we’re at +20 and 100,000 points behind. I’ll wvw when we’re winning”

It’s poor sportsmanship, but it’s unfortunately the reality of competition involving high numbers.

We are not being paranoid about being spied on when the spy posts a screenshot of our team chat on the forum. That is not paranoia, that is something that was proven to be true without us even accusing you of beforehand.

I sincerely hope that the majority of BP is not like this,
the scores are pretty close and we will probably be fighting each other for weeks to come, and I don’t look forward to a month of BP crying exploit because they were finally given a challenge.

Why don’t you stop spying on our server’s team chat?

It’s starting to get disgraceful that you’d come spy on us, intentionally take something out of context, then come post it on the forums publicly to call us out on something that we actually didn’t even do in the first place.

Is that how /you/ want to represent the “culture that you created in your server”? Because it’s certainly souring my opinion on you guys.

It’s like you’re digging a hole, and won’t stop. Your responses have convinced me that there’s some exploiting going on. Which Reminds me of a few days ago of DH chat saying: "How did they get in here!?! "

Maybe Anet should do some investigation and put this matter to rest. Because as it stands, I’m not confident that we’re in the middle of a legit match-up.

It’s like you’re so convinced that nobody plays fairly but you that you’ve forgotten how to focus on anything else..

I would encourage Anet to do all the investigation they’re capable of, because it wouldn’t effect me, anyone I know, or our wvw force or effectiveness at all.

And if it gets the handful of exploiters (That every server has) off of Dragonbrand, then maybe it’ll sooth your paranoia.

I would support player kills earning points.
I know it can be “abused”, but honestly, the amount of coordination and effort that would go into abusing it would really not be worth the effort (Let’s say each kill earns your server 1 point [Taking out a Sentry, even now, instantly earns the server one point {Watch, it happens}]).

There are ways to make it work, variations on the idea that would be less prone to abuse.
As far as I see it, the best we can do as players is talk about what we’d like to see and then trust the Devs to work with it if it’s got potential and make it playable and fair.
The specifics aren’t up to us, just the general idea

I know it’s not a new idea,
But making things more valuable to stay and defend should be a priority here.

Even the rewards for zerging and taking territory are negligable (I spent an hour with two zergs taking the Hills keep from an opposing server. 10s and 1k karma are not an appropriate reward for an hour’s work), but the rewards for defending territory is pretty much “Your server gets points, which gives you very minor buffs to PvE content”.

There are so many interesting things that Anet could do with towers/keeps/Stonemist, even supply camps, that would make them more valuable to actually want to have.

It could be as simple as making the amount of points you get from any given piece of territory increase the longer you hold that piece of territory. That could go a long way to discourage zergs just running around the map one behind the other and flipping every piece of land 5 times an hour.

Another thing could be more comprehensive rewards to guild-claimed towers and keeps for that guild. If there was more to guild claiming than a few stat buffs that didn’t even come into effect unless your guild pays for and activates them, it would go a long way into making a tower or keep that your guild has claimed feel more like your territory.

I’m reminded of the old days of Ragnarok Online’s War of Emperium.
When your guild held a castle in that game, your guild got major rewards for it. Rewards that spawned daily and gave your guild a really solid, really valid reason to want to stay and defend that castle at every opportunity.
It also went a long way to prevent smaller guilds from over-extending and stretching themselves too thin, because their members would have no way to hold more territory.

I know that when you get into providing bigger rewards for things like this, it opens it up to farming and exploiting. But right now WvW doesn’t feel anywhere close to what it should feel like. I want to feel a little more accomplished when my guild has claimed a Keep than just having our emblem flying on a flag.

I don’t think shattering heavily should be isolated to one build. (Or one handful of it)

It is our class mechanic, and it can be synergized rather well with most other builds.

I don’t really consider myself a Shatter build (despite me being heavy on bursts) any more than a glass cannon thief would consider themselves a “Steal Build”.
Using your unique class mechanic should complement the build/playstyle you use more than it should BE your build.

The day I got really good at being a mesmer was the day I started to actually utilize shatters frequently instead of ignoring them, even though I wasn’t in a shatter build at all.

Does Darkhaven/Dragonbrand/Borlis Pass have a community website?
if yes what is it?

DB hasn’t had a unified community website since over 1000 people transferred off the server in the same week (including the creators of said website) a couple months ago.

We do have an unlimited seat mumble server and commanders communicate with different forms of voice chat regularly.

I didn’t know we have a server wide chat system. good to know.

The problem with the website we used to have was set up in the early days and then guilds all left and (presumably) the people who ran the website did too.

The Mumble got set up afterwards, but since the website died because no one was using/promoting it, no one knows the Mumble is there either. :P
I would absolutely love to see more people in Mumble, especially for WvW purposes. We could do much better things with real coordination, even with smaller forces. (Something that any guild that uses Voice Chat for organized wvw can attest to)

EDIT: That is, at least, my interpretation. I’ve been around on Dragonbrand since Launch but wasn’t involved in the website or Mumble administration.

Before I begin this,
I’d like to clear up that in 95% of other games, I wouldn’t encourage or participate in spawn camping.

But in WvW I think it’s a tactic that should be utilized more.
There are three separate exits out of an invader’s spawn, so you need a dedicated defensive force to even spawncamp effectively.

The game mechanics themselves (Three exits, legendary defenders, now breakout events) combat true spawn camping very effectively. The enemy can’t get anywhere near your actual SPAWN, you have all the time in the world to rally yourself a force and fight your way in properly.

Honestly, if people don’t wanna 1v1 me in wvw it means they’re probably pre-80 and wouldn’t be enough of a challenge to really be fun anyway.
Curb stomping people with shatter bursts is fun and all, but you can only pick on the pre-80s so much before it gets boring.

Also, I do make use of NPC’s at my camps and towers to help me win fights if they’re around. (I won’t run halfway across a map to one so I can be safe, but if I’m standing at one already I’m going to let the enemy come to me instead of running away from my reinforcement-NPCs)

Mesmers need to be able to do something in wvw.

Being able to win 1v1 fights 95% of the time is nice and all,
But I’m in wvw not spvp.

I’ve already gone from being extremely proactive at destroying siege and people on walls during attacks to just standing there watching a Ram whittle away the gate’s HP because Anet thought phantasms should require line of sight to cast.

Portal is the only really big and unique purpose we’ve got in wvw now.
(Let me be clear, when I say “big and unique” I mean something that every other class can’t do. We’ve still got other uses but I’d have the same other uses if I rolled a Warrior, or Ele, or just about any other class. )

Basically, it’s nice that there’s a job for Mesmers that can’t be filled by anyone else: And that’s Portal.

Stop encouraging Anet to gimp the legitimate players instead of punishing the ones breaking the rules.

I was addressing BP, just using past experiences with DH as an example.

We fought DH for three consecutive weeks before this fourth (As I’m sure you’re aware),
DH only recently lost the population, far as I’m aware.
Which is a pretty kittenty blow to any server that prides itself on wvw (As anyone who’s been on Dragonbrand since launch can attest)

And I assure you, DH is fairing much better after a guild exodus than DB did back when it happened to us.

So,
Just participated in the attack in BP Borderlands.

Solid show, boys.

I’m usually in smaller groups and don’t often take to attacking Keeps (In this case, Hills),
But you held off two zergs at each outer gate for quite a while; so props.

EDIT: I’m actually gonna append this.
I watched the same zerg/guilds steamroll DH Borderlands in under 15 minutes last week, so holding us up for almost an hour at one keep was pretty solid.
