Monopoly or not, [DnT] is registered for a single record only (Arah P2) …
I’d love to see the Americas giving some proper competition

NA currently has 4 records.

Combo of Hawt and DNT have 1 and LOD has 3 listed records atm for the all times.

That’s 4 records out of total of 44 (if I counted correctly), less than 10%.
ANet pls nerf EU this balance is outrageous

I wasn’t arguing the NA vs EU thing. I was just correcting your previous statement.

LOD is in NA.

I’m not sure of what other dungeon/fractal guilds there are on NA that are active besides LOD and DnT. Don’t know how active some of the guilds we used to know are anymore.

Old Tom bugs out? I don’t think he’s green/friendly at all and just kinda sits there waiting to be killed… could be wrong about that.

The fractal bugs out if you kill him without activating that checkpoint. He still attacks and all. For all I know, Anet may have fixed it also.

If you bypass the checkpoint, the event progress stays on “Ascend to the Upper Level”. If you kill Old Tom while it says this, you can’t activate it and get the “Disable the Security Golem” event since he’s already dead.

It’s been a while since I did it. Don’t remember if the forcefield after Old Tom doesn’t deactivate or if the final 4 golems won’t activate if you don’t trigger that checkpoint prior to kill Old Tom. Think the force field doesn’t go down.

Yeah exactly its skipping triggers. Which is the kind of stuff that probably would have been frowned upon when restricted first got created.

I don’t think this would have been frowned upon even then. You still need to trigger the checkpoint so that Old Tom doesn’t bug out. Kind of like shadowstepping past the threshold in CM P1. Still need to trigger the cutscene for the fight to work.

Well they didn’t do anything that even violates the current ruleset or previous ones. Those traps aren’t required to be disabled to proceed. The checkpoint does have to be triggered though which is why the mesmer headed back there.

Eh I think we just need to have a meeting. It’s getting painfully obvious that you don’t want to accept or consider other opinions via discussion on the forums so it’s probably time that we try to set up a meeting with representation from guilds interested in doing records.

Come to a general consensus on this stuff and get it over with so those of us who are doing records can get back to it instead of what’s happening now which is no one is bothering to even attempt records or post anything since the rules are changing week to week.

I don’t think the lupicus one shot got banned under my rules, but I’ve been wrong once before

Is the ‘restricted’ in point of discussion not the one gwscr hosted?

The restricted statement that I was referring to was what is listed on gwscr.com:

Each of the aforementioned tables is divided into two categories- restricted and unrestricted. Records in the restricted category are governed by a strict rule set which requires players to complete most if not all of the dungeon as it was intended while records in the unrestricted category have relaxed rules, allowing players to get away with most things.

While there were exceptions to that statement of “as it was intended” like the Arah P3 door skip, they were the exceptions not the rules. Rules were discussed with that idea in mind like dodge icebows and swapping traits to reset cooldowns since it was felt that those behaviors weren’t intended.

We currently don’t have anything that defines what the intent of each is. It’s pretty much if people like a tactic or not. The current definition of restricted is:

I have chosen “Restricted ruleset is what you want it to be.” because that’s the only one I can realistically enforce.

Yeah, it was more aimed at those people who think things were better before because of the “framework” and stuff like that.

But even before this whole voting, arah p3 trick was allowed and lupicus oneshot banned. Both based on opinions, not facts. But somehow those are ok and fit the framework.

Which again gets back to the fact that people just don’t like some of the results and attack the process to revert them.

Those were exceptions to the general framework before but in general the rest of the rules fit into that.

I’m not saying we should go back to what it said before. What I’m saying is that we need to have something beyond “do whatever you want”.

And again, your veiled dismissal of everything you disagree with is getting kind of old. I’ve already stated plenty of times before that people don’t want to follow the old “a it was intended” idea and have been perfectly fine with that. Still think we would need to come up with something that says Restricted is supposed to represent instead of your idea of it is whatever you want it to be.

I have stated alternatives for what would probably be acceptable by most people but whatever, it’s getting to the point that its obvious that you don’t want to have an actual discussion since you just dismiss them out of hand.

So if reverting back to the old ruleset is selected are we also reverting back to the general statement that restricted is supposed to follow that restricted is as close to what we think anet intended?

Again, the fundamental difference between what’s going on now and what was going on back when gwscr was still up and running is that the restricted rules back then were based off of that statement while now its do whatever. Until we agree upon a philosophy that the rest of the rules spawn off of, we’re going to continue to have this same problem.

Honestly there’s only 1 person from rT taking part in the weekly votes and no one else. I would be willing to bet that it’s probably the same thing for most of the, if not all of the guilds listed on page 1 of the thread. With that being the case, it doesn’t fully represent how everybody in the community feels but I understand that allowing everyone to vote would just be impractical. I bring this up only because minority vote in a group of a dozen people isn’t really that much smaller than the majority vote because of this.

Eh I ask the people in my guild who are doing records about how they want our vote to go.

Could you mention a change which “flat out broke the principles of the ruleset”? And also elaborate what are these “principles”?

We don’t have any principles of the ruleset at the moment because its been turned into whatever you want instead of being based off of a general statement before. This is kind of the point that I was trying to make a few weeks ago . ..

Our record approvers should do the rest in terms of figuring out the minor issues which may or may not pass our standards.

Not to belittle your wall of text, but this is an important point I want to drive in on.

I am totally okay if record approvers can dictate what is and isn’t okay without a vote, but the problem is that when we’ve done this, non-approvers have argued with us and made big deals out of it. If you, the voters, want to give us, the approvers, the flexibility and ability to simply make decisions like this on our own then that’s great and we’ll happily do that. That would resolve almost all of the votes and we won’t need weekly polls. But what that does mean, however, is that we will be able to simply tell off people who disagree with us because you’ve given us the authority to have the final say. Is that what you, the voters, want? If not, then these polls are useful because they give you all the ability to decide what flies.

I think this would have been fine except some records were approved that had rule violations in it so its more of a matter of the approvers going by the listed rules.

As for the discussion going on now, the stricter the rules get, the less creativity teams are allowed to employ which is going to lead to people not bothering.

So what are records supposed to present?

If we had something like a simple statement like this then we all at least have a contextual understanding of what the rules are supposed to go for:
Showcases excellent gameplay, ability, and getting best times possible.

If we had a statement then when we’re deciding on rules, then we can see if it lines up with that or not.
Consumables makes a lot of game mechanics moot such as stealth kits, etc which is mainly why they are banned.
Bypassing content through goating or breaking out of maps doesn’t show your ability beyond jumping which is why it is banned.
Safespotting a boss so their AI breaks and they just end up standing there while you beat on them doesn’t showcase gameplay which is why it was banned.
Using gemstore or time exclusive items aren’t available to everyone for fairness reasons which is why they are banned.

See my point yet? We don’t have any contextual understanding of what the rules are supposed to be because there is none beyond whatever you want.

I still don’t understand how that would prevent people voting from what they want.

I don’t understand how you don’t see why there should be a general statement on wtf Restricted is supposed to mean. One of the biggest reasons why people are having problems with how you’re running things is that you dismiss pretty much what other people say.

If Restricted ruleset just means whatever we want, then that just equal what the Unrestricted set is.

If we have a simple statement that says “X” ruleset is how fast we can do dungeons with everything and anything available in the game, then that means one thing and people understand the context of the rules they’re voting on.

If we have a simple statement tat says “Y” ruleset is how fast we can do dungeons with avoiding exploits, then that means something different and people understand the context of the rules they’re voting on.

Leaving it as you want where Restricted is just “whatever you want it to be” is why there’s so much confusion about what the rules are trying to do.

The reason why people are voting with however they want is because we don’t have any kind of context on what the rules are supposed to be. When these were hosted on gwscr.com, there was a context to why there was a Restricted vs Unrestricted ruleset and why we had two separate ones. With what’s going on now, Restricted means nothing because you have made it just mean whatever.

Enko.6123

At this point, why not just use the Unrestricted rule set with the addition of rules 5, 7, and 12 from the current Restricted set?

This basically means that any interesting tactics you can come up with are usable, no consumables beyond food and utility, no breaking out of map or through geometry, and all relevant cutscenes need to be triggered (ie progress blocking content isn’t just being bypassed).

The rest of this stuff we’ve been arguing would all pretty much be allowed because we’re capable of pulling it off and that’s pretty much what a speed record is.

Rules 8 and 10 were still around when Restricted still meant we were avoiding things we thought Anet woud consider exploits so why are those still here since that’s not what Restricted means anymore?

gw2dungeons.net: Week 28 discussion

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Well a lot of this is stemming from the fact that we don’t have an overall framework to describe what Restricted vs Unrestricted is supposed to mean. This is what I was discussing a few weeks ago when you basically told me that I was full of hot air and my arguments were incomprehensible to you.

As it stands now with Restricted being “whatever you want”, there’s no reason to have what seems like random rules. With things going the way they are, we probably do just need to have a voice comms meeting to get this hashed out and resolved before we go any further.

Pretty sure we’re just talking about using immobilizes that basically permanently disable a boss by preventing them from even getting to their active spots.

Eh this stuff is pretty much the reason why the ruleset really should be just banning gemstore items, breaking out of map or into geomoetry, etc. This kind of stuff people like doing and it can be cool to see.

Jeez….Wanze’s TP totals are just humbling….he’s paid about 10x in TP fees than I have ever seen….

Thats just from the last 3 months though as the API only tracks 90 days of sale and purchase history and only from 1 account.

And my trading volume went up alot since the TP UI remake as it made alot of things easier.

Before that, I was usually playing around with only 200-400g in gold and not more than 30 different buy orders, otherwise it got too time consuming to update them.
Now I usually have around 1000g and 100 different items im buying.

I definitely like that we have a Load More Items button now. When they got rid of the pages, it was pretty annoying to have to cancel your most recent orders to get at your older orders.

Now, I usually put in orders for around 2000g at a time. The delay on the TP sometimes is really the only annoying thing now. Though I do my orders again generally every 6 hours since the majority of it fills by then.

What helped me save the most time was creating a shopping list in my current buy orders tab.

I canceled all my buy orders and then put in 1 each minimum value buy order for the items i regularly bid on or which values i want to check on a regular basis.
Now i can just click on each item on my list and place my bids without having to use the search function, which saves quite alot of typing.

I also realized that if you want to cancel a buy order, if you click right of the cancel button, it cancels it without having to click confirm, which comes in handy, if ysou placed alot of buy orders that didnt fill.

Yup do both already.

Condi reaper in pve is doomed to fail at the moment through this patch. Necromancer bitter chill is nerfed with this trait. It will be felt easily.

How is this nerfing Bitter Chill? Even if your target already has 5 stacks, applying further Chill will refresh a stack and you’ll still apply Vulnerability with Bitter Chill.

I don’t isolate the rares I’m salvaging by levels, just know that they’re 68+ and then sort by light, medium, heavy so I can track the material drop rates from them as well.

Just chipping in here that different armor pieces have a different average return on common mats, a chestpiece gives more than gloves, for example.
But i guess you knew that already and not only mark the weight of the armor you are salvaging but also which piece of gear.

I know that it does. Since I was more interested in the ecto drop rates, I just average the salvage mats to see if they line up with previously calculated chest vs other pieces. Takes up too much time to organize by type beyond weight category. The first 20,000 salvages were sorted by each individual type and when I get rares in large quantities, the time it takes to sort them by type isn’t worth it.

Exactly what are you considering a relatively small number of ectos tracked?

Something I probably need to check is 10k rares using mystic salvage kits (though I’m out of forge stones . ..) vs 10k rares using silver fed.

1000-1500 salvage sessions were usually spot on around the average before. I probably switched to a Silver Fed sometime in May or June. I’d have to go through some older videos or any screenshots I have to see if I still had any mystic forge stones in my bank or not.

After pulling the numbers for the past month, again as I said, I’m either having a bad streak, Silver Fed has a slightly lower rate, or Anet lowered the drops. I’m more inclined to think its a bad streak and trust that the Silver-Fed has the same stated rates as a Mystic’s or Master’s and I really doubt that Anet changed the rates.

I don’t isolate the rares I’m salvaging by levels, just know that they’re 68+ and then sort by light, medium, heavy so I can track the material drop rates from them as well. It could very well be that lvl 80s have a slightly higher chance and I’ve just been getting more of the lower level ones.

So as an update since my last post in this channel, I have salvaged 1970 rares and received 1729 ectos. I also recently switched from using Mystic Salvage Kits to using a Silver Fed (ran out of Mystic Forge Stones finally).

My ecto salvage rates for lvl 68-80 rares using a Silver Fed since my last post on July 4 was 87.76% compared to the previous average ~88.5% rate. I’ll continue gathering data and will separate future data into a different spreadsheet but if this trend continues, the Silver-Fed either has a slightly lower chance, Anet slightly lowered the return of ectos, or I had an extremely bad streak. Another 5,000 salvages should show if the trend continues or not.

Edit:
I just checked the an historical backup of my spreadsheet from June 6 compared to now.
Creation date of the original Excel spreadsheet was January 21, 2013.

As of June 6:
Total salvaged: 42,495
Ectos earned: 37,922
Ecto rate: 89.24%

As of July 8:
Total salvaged: 51,089
Ectos earned: 45,185
Ecto rate: 88.44%

Between June 6 – July 8:
Salvaged: 8,594
Ectos earned: 7,263
Ecto rate: 84.51%

I think I may start tracking the ecto rate month to month to see if when downward or upward trends occur.

I know I’m a bit old fashioned. Back in Guild-Wars 1. Chill (from Water Elementalist) is fabulous… long chilling duration, very decent crowd control. Winter’s Embrace even act like tormented condition in Guild-Wars 2.

Nowadays in Guild-Wars 2…. Chill doesn’t even deal any damage, and the duration is very very short. (At least under Ele’s dispose) I keep on hearing Chill is strong, but does it comparable to bleeding? burning? tormented etc. It doesn’t even have any damage, and now Anet further nerf Chill. Spells/Sigils/Skills that inflict Chill all have longer recharge time.

In GW2, we have a lot of condi-remove! Plus a lot of leaping, dashing, movement buff, or spec to prevented slower movement condi etc. I really don’t see how Chill is OP at all. Anet buff every condition while nerf Chill? The intention is just bizarre.

The strength of chill isn’t anything to do with damage; it’s that it makes mobs barely move and any non auto attacks they use will be used 2/3s less due to the increased recharge time.

In PvP this is a killer.
In PvE, there’s a few places that having Chill is incredibly useful but overall, probably won’t even notice it that often.
In WvW, works great to split up zergs to isolate and kill.

Shoggoroth should be fine since its part of his mechanic and its mid fight.

Ooze in Thaumanova and Fimbul were the other two but those start hostile and don’t actually go active until they move to a specific spot. Honestly, I’d rather we allow it since it’s pretty much inline with the rest of how records are going.

Is immobilizing fimbul to prevent him walking to his trigger location allowed? He looked pretty much bugged afk to me, otherwise nice run!

Thanks !
Well, you do the same with the tar in Arah P1 or the Ooze in Thaumanova so ist should be allowed

Asking in the week 27 discussion if that falls under Rule 11.) Attacking enemies which don’t try to fight back is banned.

Under the old rules of safespotting or glitching them on geometry so they couldn’t hit you is different than how the rule is worded now.

Guess we’ll what the consensus says.

Question. If you immobilize a boss and prevent him from getting to somewhere where he then starts attacking, is that consider violating rule 11.) Attacking enemies which don’t try to fight back is banned.

There’s two instances that I can think of that the boss doesn’t start doing anything until it gets to that point and another instance where this happens mid fight.

Salvaging rares-exos gives less Ectos now ?

I’ve tracked my rare salvages since the start of the game. All salvages were done with either a Master kit, Mystic Kit, or a Silver Fed.

Total salvaged: 49,119
Ectos gained: 43,456
% of ectos gained: 88.47%

Heavy armors:
Salvaged: 12908
Ectos gained: 11221
% of ectos gained: 86.9%

Medium armors:
Salvaged: 23,971
Ectos gained: 21542
% of ectos gained: 89.9%

Light armors:
Salvaged: 10457
Ectos gained: 9086
% of ectos gained: 86.9%

Accessories:
Salvaged: 529
Ectos gained: 475
% of ectos gained: 89.8%

Weapons:
Salvaged: 1254
Ectos gained: 1132
% of ectos gained: 90.3%

Ecto rates overall have held pretty steady for me. I tend to salvage around 800-1500 rares at a time. Rates per session has always been between 87%-91% (+ or – 2% of 89%).

But then the problem resurfaces once masteries come out. :P

I like the idea of adding them to hobby mastery. Or the daily dungeon chests. Or just increase the drop rate in boss chests.

Yes but in the meantime while they figure it out, bring back the old system. Gaining xp while mapping does nothing now which was a primary source of skill points.

One shard per run is a noticeable amount higher than it was a month ago. Each dungeon gave 75% of a shard before the traits overhaul. Now they give 0%, and your asking for 100%. I think they should implement something like every time you repeat the dungeon hobby explorer achievement you get either 3 or 4 shards. Which would put it back near the original 75% of a shard.

This isn’t make or break for me in terms of doing dungeons. But considering how dungeons are literally abandoned software at this point, I’ve gotta wonder if anyone even realized that they were nerfing dungeon rewards a bit.

They should just add a spirit shard when you level up like skill points were previously. Once the new mastery system comes into play, then they can switch it over to that.

0.o didn’t see that on the wiki, NICE, great to know. Honestly I don’t even really do dungeons anymore just fractals and screwing around.

You get roughly enough relics per run to get 3 spirit shards per run so roughly 3 spirit shards every 20-25 minutes plus the random drops you get from the boxes.

Compare this to my previous source of killing stuff while mapping of 10-15 skill points per map or the previous rate of getting 70% of one every dungeon completion.

Besides Fractals, the only place to get them at a decent rate is chest farming or Vinewrath farming in Silverwaste.

Yeah I got 2k and change from the patch, used some already to swap some ascended stats, and a few more swaps on the docket.

Seems odd though, again they’re hindering those who do the only content that needs ascended (fractals) from getting it without forcing them to go other places

Fractals is actually the only place to get them that’s guaranteed now since you can still exchange fractal relics for spirit shards.
