[Suggestion] Give Spirit Shards for Dungeons

@jerus Because money is nice.

And to op I fully support this idea I have watched my stash slowly dwindle, but that kitten they hired that determines what is and isn’t a pve reward probably didn’t like how much money you could make with skill points.

Ohh I get that, I was just wondering what his need for 8k of them was?

21 more sets of ascended armor and the rest of the ascended weapons for all my characters.

The skins from Mystic Forge recipes that require an Eldritch Scroll. Need those skins to fill up my wardrobe completion.

I don’t convert skill points to gold since I actually need them for stuff.

I’m not really sure what you would claim the solution to be. If you have a fractal weapon from before they changed them to skins that you apply, you’ll have an exotic fractal weapon that doesn’t have any stats. The idea before was that you would use transmutation crystals to put them on your weapon. When the wardrobe came out, they changed them to skins you apply.

If you’re going to use a versatile simple infusion, then it doesn’t matter. It’s going to give you +5 AR either way.
If you’re asking just for weapons, both slots are Offensive slots anyways.

How many? My last chest didn’t give me too many IIRC. I’m nearing my next chest but I’m concerned that it won’t give me enough stones.

5 per chest, 10 per large chest, 15 per heavy chest and 25 per massive chest. By the time you get to 5k AP you should have around 100.

My question is do you use mystic salvage kit just for exotic and rare or for everything? Because 100 mystic stone is about 33 mystic salvage kit. When I was in farming mode at Silverwaste I was able to go througth 1 kit per week, but that was crazy time. I usually go througth 1 per months, which mean that I always have more stone than I need.

But if you salvage with them a lot, you man not receive enough stone.

I use them for everything. The extra coin from vendoring minor sigils/runes is kinda nice. Mostly I just don’t like to carry around basic kits though because they only have 25 uses. 50 uses on basics would be nice considering we do more salvaging these days compared to the old days.

Also I play on 5 different characters so moving a copper fed kit between them would not be convenient.

If you’re using mystic kits on salvaging greens and justifying it by the extra coin from vendoring minor runes/sigils, you’re wasting money.

Basic Kits cost 3.5c per use. Copper fed costs 3c per use. If you use gold to buy gems to get it, your issue with limited number of uses is solved AND you will get that money back eventually. Why you’re so adamant against a copper fed is a little odd since that is the solution to the problem you’re complaining about. If you think moving a single copper fed between multiple characters is inconvenient, then you’ll have to weigh the inconvenience of buying multiple salvage kits all the time vs moving a single kit (or buy multiple copper feds).

As for some numbers, I have tracked salvages on 4,995,572 items. This does not include the blue and green drops that I salvage as well. At a savings of .5c per salvage, this has saved me 247g 77s 86c on these items.

If you’re going for best cost efficiency:
Copper Fed: Blues and Greens
Master’s/Mystic’s: lvl 68+ rares under the cost of ectos and mats salvaged times 0.85
Black Lion: Exotics with valuable sigils and runes.

A) Ban usage of any traits and skill which give any undocumented benefit

By undocumented, do you mean not listed in the in game tooltip or in patch notes? There’s quite a few quirks with skills that aren’t documented that are just how those skills work or because Anet forgot to update the tooltip..

By the way, is:

10.) Abusing trait swapping to use any skill prior to its natural cool down is banned. This includes but is not limited to Mesmer Blink and Guardian Wall of Reflection.

still relevant?

It still works with other skills that modify abilities. The examples used are no longer valid though.

Is Doing Map Completion a Waste?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Enko.6123

Enko.6123

You won’t get penalized. I’m pretty sure that almost noone of the people that already hit 80 was doing the map completion for xp anyway. It was all for completion rewards, gift of exploration, title a star near your name. And you still keep getting those.

Edit: As the person below me has correctly pointed out, mastery will be divided between HoT areas and core ones. You won’t be able to get mastery xp for HoT masteries by core map completion even in the future, so you are not losing anything here. And as far as we know, the only core masteries that wil get introduced with expansion will be fractal ones – you will get them fast if you do fractals, and if you don’t, they will be useless to you anyway.

Umm I was. I was doing map completions to get more skill points since it was faster to get them than in dungeons or Silverwaste and I would work on additional gift of explorations at the same time. Still going to do completions anyways since I’m planning on getting it done on all eventual 45 characters. Just seems a little lacking on Spirit Shards now.

Now I don’t get spirit shards when leveling up and seems like they barely drop from mobs.

Agree. Mapping used to be my main source of skill points since I popped all XP buffs and then would kill everything I came across. Now the main source of skill points through champ bag farming with the best way is chest farms in Silverwaste which I’d rather not subject myself to a mindless grind of running around in circles.

As a result, I have no skill points left for more ascended or anything else.

I realize that xp will eventually go to the mastery system when HoT comes out but in the meantime, it would be nice if we could still get spirit shards from leveling until the new system is brought in.

[SUG] Obtaining Spirit Shards From Leveling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Enko.6123

Enko.6123

Killing all the random mobs while mapping was my previous fastest way to gain skill points. The problem now is that with the system doing a halfway transition towards the Mastery system, leveling now gains you nothing at 80 besides an AoE blowback that can be more annoying than anything else.

I just completed 3 maps in which I usually would get at least 15-20 skill points per map usually since I run full xp boosters (killstreak, xp, 15% potions, 15% food, etc) and I would stop to kill groups of mobs everywhere. This time, I have gotten 0 spirit shards. As an aside, has anyone actually gotten a Spirit Shard from a normal mob yet? Seems like they only drop from things that gave Scrolls of Knowledge before, namely champ bags.

The suggestion:
Since the new system with leveling going towards hero points or mastery xp but isn’t coming out until HoT, in the interim, can leveling still give you a Spirit Shard until HoT comes out and it can then convert to to the new system.

At the moment, the only decent way to get skill points now is to go Silverwaste chest farming which is literally running around in a circle and hitting F . ..

How can I get spirit shards?

The main problem atm is that you used to be able to get skill points by leveling up. This was a main source of skill points for me when I am working on map completion. I just completed 3 maps in which I usually would get at least 15-20 skill points usually since I run full xp boosters (killstreak, xp, 15% potions, 15% food, etc) and I would stop to kill groups of mobs everywhere. The new system with leveling going towards hero points or mastery xp but isn’t coming out until HoT. In the interim, we should still be able to get skill points from leveling up at 80 until HoT comes out and it can then convert to to the new system. At the moment, the only decent way to get skill points now is to go Silverwaste chest farming and I generally try to avoid doing that since I find it boring. Leveling at the moment only produces an AoE blowback which is usually more annoying than anything else.

Farming 291 eyes yourself without using the TP can easily take 100k hours.

333 hours per eye farmed?
Yeah just finished checking your math, that seems like a reasonable rate.
I mean at that rate I could have all the items that use giant eyes in 11 years.

If you don’t use the TP and farm the heavy moldy bags yourself, yeah it can take that long.

Drop rates for me:
Before drop rate change for blood, claws, fangs:
538092 bags opened. 495 giant eyes
0.09%
After drop rate change:
206,890 bags opened. 214 giant eyes
0.1%

You’ll probably need around 300k heavy moldy bags to get 291.

The hammer #4 skills range was reduced from around 240 to 130 quite some time ago. Best bet to guarantee a hit on the seal is to have stability on from the #3 skill or external sources and just facehug the seal to ensure you hit it.

You can do this to guarantee a hit.

Eventually, you should be able to learn how far to stand to still hit the seal and not get knocked back when the shield pops up.

You’re probably too far away.
For knees seals and during the final fight, you can just stand right on them to ensure you get the hit.
For chest seal, the safe spot from the fire fields next to them is close enough and you can just hit 4 whenever you have the charge.
For the arm seals with the purple barriers that come up, I usually stand a couple of steps away and back up while hitting 4. This hits the seal and prevents me from getting knocked down.

So if people want a blanket statement. I’d just put : “This ruleset is to create a more competitive and fun system in which we can play” or something like that. Because, well, all “restricted” really is, a set of rules people came up with so they didn’t have to do those things to compete for the speed run title. Making them not really speed runs but a superior competitive PVE scene.

I’m fine with that statement. All this does is clarify that we’re moving away from the previous statement of “as it was intended” so we’re all on the same page. That’s all I’ve been asking for.

But why was FGS allowed? I find it hard to discern between IB targetting manipulation and FGS where you had to change your options settings and lure the boss into a wall.

I think there’s always been far more opinion involved than you’re admitting. Sure it’d be measured against “was it intended” then people would just twist the meanings until it could all work. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a measuring stick so to speak if you’re just going to bend it till you get the answer you wanted anyways.

It’s just a baseline thing to measure things against initially. It’s not something that sets things in stone. It still leaves room for discussion but allows us to at least have a starting point on if something that should be allowed or not. As I said, it just forms a foundation.

There was definitely discussion for all of those. I haven’t denied that there wasn’t.

I’m not even saying that we should still include the “as intended” thing because people have already moved away from that. Basically we need a statement that separates Restricted vs Unrestricted at this point.

Since people are actually reading this thread, I’m going to try to explain again why a statement on what Restricted is is needed. I’ll try to keep it short for the people who can’t or refuse to read walls of text.

Previously, all of our rules were held up to the philosophy of “is this intended or not”. If we felt it wasn’t, then generally it was banned. If people still wanted to allow it, then that’s when it was discussed and that’s what we voted on before. All of our rules prior were measured with that wicket first.

It explains why dodge ice bows was not allowed.
It explains why CM P3 air gun usage was not allowed.
It explains why Lupi 1 shot on wall was not allowed (in addition to it not being fun to watch).
Things like the Arah p3 door skip were discussed, measured against that, and then people decided to vote on it but it was at least measured against the “was it intended” philosophy at first.

We don’t have that now. Restricted is now whatever you want it to be. We have nothing to base our rules against beyond “I feel like doing this”. This isn’t a minor or irrelevant thing. It’s the foundation that the ruleset is predicated on.

If you want be pedantic please note that I never stated that specifically you think your opinion equals “will of the community”.

There is a thing called constructive criticism. Constantly nagging about the same minor thing over and over isn’t constructive.

I don’t consider not having a general statement of what Restricted is supposed to be as minor since pretty much most of the issues recently have stemmed from the lack of one since we switched off of gwscr. That simple statement is what kept the rules in line of each other for the most part. Once you have that baseline, that’s when people voted on exceptions or special cases.

Agree with Nike. Main issue at the moment is the constant tweaking. For anyone working on records, there’s no point atm since whatever they’re working on might no longer be allowed or something that was previously banned is allowed the following week.

Only problem I had before is that you just seem to dismiss issues that are brought up if you didn’t think they were important. Pretty much everything I had posted in the previous weeks was an attempt to get this simplified down instead of the constant tweaks. Laying the foundation by defining the differences between restricted vs unrestricted, would have resolved some base issues. What’s the difference between resticted vs unresticted? If you can answer that, then that’s pretty much what I’m asking for. Your posted statement that “Restricted ruleset is what you want it to be” pretty much means its a free for all and we might as well get rid of Unrestricted vs Restricted.

I had asked for a definition of what people were considering events. This would have covered most of the issues since blockades, NPC interactions, etc could be considered events or are people only considering events things that show up like dynamic events. Defining this would have resolved most of the issues we were voting on.

These two things would have resolved or at least laid the foundation for everything else but all you did was ridicule it or dismiss it and then come up with ridiculous statements like “restricted ruleset is what you want it to be”.

If you really saw no value in just having a base statement of what Restricted was supposed to be, then why do you do the same thing for gw2dungeons.net under the General Section for the “What’s This” part? All I was asking for a similar thing. If you couldn’t understand that, then I’m not sure what else to say about that.

I didn’t say my opinion equals “the will of the community”. I was stating my own opinion in response to your comment. Please stop placing words in my mouth. If I was trying to state my opinion as the will of the community, I would have used words like “the community didn’t mind”.

But sure keep on attacking me since I was the only one attempting have a discussion on this.

I’m certain you didn’t. It’s amazing how some of you think that your opinion equals “will of the community”. Not to mention constant attempts to break or manipulate the process.

I also don’t see how attempting to get people to abide to the posted ruleset would be constant attempts to break or manipulate the process or asking that we have some kind of stated viewpoint of what Restricted is supposed to be is attempting to manipulate the process.

The constant loosening of the rules, if anything, is what caused the breakdown in the process.

Where I haven’t hold to what has been decided? Do you say we should have a vote whether I’m reliable or not? At least I see a comment like that as a serious lack of trust.

I’m going to point this out from the previous discussion. You’re the one that asked. Maybe we should have a vote then.

On the previous trait change preview, they basically said if there’s not a trait for it anymore it will be baseline. They might not have mentioned it again since it didn’t really change from last time. The Blasting Staff baseline change isn’t mentioned again either.

This is the kind of stuff having a basic statement that said Restricted ruleset was for runs that complete most if not all of the dungeon as it was intended.

Wethospu and Nike both made it clear last week that they felt it was pointless to have a general framework to set the mindset of the rules.

Did not expect it to come to a head this quickly with things like Lupi wall one shotting and air guns being allowed but this is the kind of stuff I was trying to prevent.

You specifically wanted that poll reopened so you could vote against exceptions, which changed the outcome. And now you act surprised that exceptions were removed?

I kind of understand why you would need a guideline to tell how to vote.

You had the vote that we all were voting on everything without regards to the rules. It was basically throwing all the rules out. The only other option was for you to decide on rules. Your broad statements that are on opposite ends of the spectrum are part of the problem. You obviously didn’t read what I had posted on why I said we should have baseline rules and then people vote on the exceptions to those rules when they were needed.

The rules all created previously were predicated on a broad statement that the dungeons were to be done as intended which is the big thing that has been changed yet you all seem to think this is minor and didn’t matter. The Arah wall one shotting and the CM P3 air guns were both banned because people thought they were either cheesy and/or that was not intended. You guys got rid of that. Were there some exceptions that were still allowed like the Arah p3 door skip because during the TS meetings, the majority of people voted yes to it? Sure but generally everything was viewed through the lens of “should this be considered intended or not”.

I made very clear arguments last week which you obviously chose to not read them and then just claimed that nothing mattered. I was not asking for a guideline on how to vote. I was asking for a general statement that stated the intention of Restricted. You are the one who chose to toss that aside and you were the one who decided to turn Restricted into a Free For All. You are reaping what you have sown.

The community voted to ban that, it should be banned. Understand that your job here is to follow the will of the community.

Umm well this was kind of the stuff I was trying to mitigate for future things last week because a lot of the stuff we had decided in previous meetings was getting thrown out the window.

Most of the stuff we had decided in previous TS meetings was predicated on the basis that we were trying to avoid most things people thought were exploits or unintended since what we as a community back then decided. We don’t have anything like that now.

For fractals on Urban Battlegrounds, you can get rid of the path specific content since the new definition for a barrier includes what the comment’s concern is.

I am not asking you to enforce people vote some way. No where have I asked that. I have pointed out that people vote inconsistently or not in accordance with the current rules. I have asked that we clear up what Restricted is so we’re all voting with the same understanding because at the moment we’re not. We have some people voting with the crowd, we have some people voting with whatever they like to do, and we have some people voting according to what Restricted originally was. There’s a difference in this just because we don’t have that broad statement. If you think I’m the one making this difficult, then just come up with a broad statement on what Restricted is. The way things are going, its just going to be Unrestricted with no boss skips.

Do people even realize that the first step in defining what we wanted in Restricted was the first thing we did when we originally set up the rules so we knew the general idea the rest of the rules would follow? That’s the crux of what I’ve been saying. Cookie understood that that was the base issue which is why that was the first thing that we discussed way back when before we decided any of the rules. We don’t have that first step in defining what we want in Restricted written down which is why since we moved from gwscr to DnT forums to gw2dungeons.net things have been loosening up and we’ve been devolving into the increasing use of exploits to get faster times. I like seeing these in records because they are interesting to watch. I am onboard with you guys on all of that but they are outside what Restricted was originally supposed to be and we probably need to change or write down whatever we want Restricted to represent. Everything is stemming from this and why there’s so much pushback in just making a simple statement is astounding.

As I said earlier, making a simple statement like this would make a huge difference and the following seems like its what people want. All I took out was the words “as it was intended” and this resolves the pushback I have against allowing what feels like exploits or unintended things that are being done.

Restricted ruleset (or whatever we call it)is governed by a set of rules which requires players to complete most if not all parts of the dungeon while the Unrestricted ruleset has relaxed rules allowing players to do anything in the dungeon to complete it as fast as possible.

Making cloth armor from plate/leather armor.

usually is. Not sure why someone would say to forge it.

You do get a 20% chance that 4 greens will upgrade to a rare so maybe they’re gambling on the chance of getting a light armor back to salvage the silk or getting a rare to salvage for ectos.

You put four of cloth or metal armor in the forge and hit forge. Then you hope that you get a light armor out of it. Otherwise, just keep tossing in the undesirables .

Nice! Sub 4 has been accomplished!

Ironically, nice to see an engineer back in records.

From my PoV , engi, ranger, necro don’t have a spot in the current meta( if you take one your time is beatable just by replacing that class. For example engi->thief). When the expansion comes things may change but I don’t think so.

I did say that a long time and I still agree on it though some exceptions may appear like this one where engi > thief for UW combat. If there was no uw combat thief > engi still.

lol just ribbing. just thought it was kind of funny.

but seriously, nice record.

Not a problem because it’s how the voting went. I’m personally on record saying I’m opposed to the Arahp3 door philosophically, but when this has been voted on multiple times it’s always been allowed by the community so I accept that.

If you are personally opposed to it, then why when its up for a vote to where you can express your personal opinion do you just vote with everybody else?

I would expect it either next Tuesday or the following Tuesday. Wouldn’t say its coming definitely on Tuesday.

Based on Molten Furnace leap, people wanted to allow things like that so we don’t need define “out-of-bounds”.

@Enko:

The problem isn’t that rules are being applied inconsistently. It’s that the rules don’t match what people actually want. There is literally zero reason to vote about “how restricted rules should be applied” because that’s crystal clear (extremely restrictive rule set).

I still don’t understand why would you need a framework for voting. What’s the point of voting if we first define how everyone should vote? What’s the point of whole framework if it can’t be enforced or if it’s so broad that it doesn’t mean anything?

The current approach is to make general rules. As I have mentioned before, there will be zero exceptions or special case rules. Lupicus oneshot and CMP3 Airgun will be allowed next week unless someone can think of a general rule to ban them.

So we are doing what I said last week and just throwing out the rules (which is what the framework is) and just voting on individual issues however we see fit. Got it.

What we’re doing is not making general rules. Everything we’ve been voting on have been specific issues that the rules already covered except people decided to not vote according to the rules.

Just do the three things that I requested and it would solve the ambiguity between us.

Define what restricted means. Is it do what we think is fun or the original intention of how things are intended.
Define what an “event” is.
Actually hold to the ruleset that’s decided.

Crafting backpacks level 78 and not 80?

if you put a lvl 65 rare embelished jewel in them, they’re about equal to what a lvl 84 exotic would be. they’re better than the lvl 80 exotic backpieces.

So this is pretty dumb?

I’ve done something similar in picking the wrong item from an ascended box or buying the wrong accessories. File a support ticket with Anet, explain what happened, and they’ll usually take care of it. Being hostile and threatening to quit and such won’t get you far with them though. Just be honest, courteous, and polite to them and things usually happen pretty quickly.

There’s a new change that you can hit “More” and it will load the next part instead of not being able to scroll any further. Big change for me since I usually have a lot of orders that I can now see whenever I want.
