Two things, we can address the rest later.
Is there any content right now that -requires- you to farm? Farming is a strategy developed by players.
How should I know. Rare drops are frequent. If you have that goal in mind, there are several avenues that provide salvagable rares for you to achieve it. You dont need to shoehorn yourself into one thing to do it.
I agree that there should be some fixes to RNG, as well as ‘casual’ rewards. The game surely isnt perfect and could use improvement in those areas.
But take note that “Fun” is exactly what you make of it, and it is not a concrete definition Anet can just provide. There’s still lots of ways to have fun -and- make progress/attain shinies that don’t involve throwing money at the game. It just takes a little wit and a determination to not grind yourself into being disgusted with repetition. [/quote]
To put it simple, every cool skin. Hence the thread title.
I too have farmed for skins, my most expensive? the Xanthium in this instance. Because it was the only staff i could really distinguish from the other staffs without being blatantly obvious with a slick clean magical glow on it. I needed 800 gold for that at the time, it took me 8 hours a day for 2 months doing the most proffitable things i could find, getting burned out allot so spent the other few hours zoning out doing profitable rich platinum node mining + watchwork pick farms.
But the entire idea was with xanthium, that it was something personal for me to get, either via aetherblade running an RNG lottery or farming.
Content that requires me to farm right now? Future Gemstore purchases because gems are getting more and more expensive, maybe a legendary just for ‘completion of this game’ (note that even after playing since beta i still do not want to undertake the great legendary farm)
Farming content thats forced upon us: entire LS2.0 From the mawdrey elder wood farm, to the SW bandit crests, luminscent armor. It is required to farm to get the pieces.
Rares are cool and all, but timewise, not profitable. And if you want, you can tell me how many areas rares drop occasionally? If i spend a night WvWing i get 3 if im lucky 4 rares. If i do CoF/farm SW i can get about 10/20 rares and an occasional exotic. If i go to a lower level zone i might be lucky if i ever find a rare within a week. If i PvP it feels like wasting time, because the only profitable bit there is the dungeon exotics.
Whats the most profitable asfar as ive noticed? T6 high magic find farm.
Howlong would it take me to get fully ascended doing things i like? And that tier, awnsers the question.
But thats the essence of the problem isnt it. There is nothing fun to do wich is actually lucrative. And trust me ive played since Beta, i know tyria as a true fan all too well. But as ive stated, i am not going to waste my time looking for hidden events wich are stale not my level and boring either. I like lore, but if its the only ‘endgame’ where i can 1 shot every mob with no actuall rewards except the cassuall 1 blue. no thanks.
There is a lot of lucrative content and fun content in this game. And I have no problem play some less lucrative one just for the fun. My best experience in the game was the old fractal back in the days where you could reach level 80 and kittenty loots and SAB with almost no loots except some weird looking skins. Still had so much fun.
Maybe the game is just not right for you. Its not cool for you if you loved GW1, but hate GW2. That doesn’t mean that GW2 is a bad game with bad decision. Its just mean that they went on a different way and that don’t fix your needs. It happen, but in the end its only a game. You said that you enjoyed the game at lauch, so at least I suppose it was worth the initial buy.
Better go to another game than keep playing a game that you obviously hate. The game is in good shape, just no the one that YOU would like it. I heard that the new Dragon Age is awesome, a lot of my guildmate are trying these days.
Its not that i hate guildwars2, i just hate what it has become and what is growing more and more into, forcing me to quit. Hence rant.
If i hated guildwars 2 i wouldnt be on here ranting and explaining why i feel the way i do. I wouldve uninstalled from the first day i found out it wasnt for me.
And since its slowly slippering in on the direction i do not want gw2 to goto, i am forced to quit, while as a last ditch effort informing other people/maybe someone at Anet who feels like me to try and change it.
Sadly, i feel reading my thread, that allot of people already left and the pay2skin community is the only one left + newcomers, who will either leave, never see guildwars 2 the way it was, like the koreangrind or pay2skin.
Yes, it’s pay to skin. That’s part of how they fund the servers to keep the game running.
You can grind to get anything you want with enough effort though, because gold can be traded for gems.
The fact that you have the opportunity to gain what you want through just playing the game, and are sore about the fact that cosmetic items that have no real bearing on the game and player skill level cannot be obtained extremely quickly without paying is a very shallow and selfish viewpoint, if I can be that frank with you.
Let them ‘cash grab’. if they were offering an easy way for paying players to win against people that put effort into learning game functionality, then this would be an issue. Shinies are not that serious.
The problem with this is the entire content they are constantly pushing and adding forces more stale, cassually focussed 2 blues and a green farmville style of gameplay. Wich in turn catters to more gemstore purchases because people dont want to farm.
Aka the ‘updates’ we receive are solely created to keep people busy, not for them to have fun. at its core. grind. wich in turn adds gemstore revenue. Thats how guildwars is killing itself. You can see it at every step of the LS.
Content became more shallow over time. Perfect example, the whole scarlett ordeal, very generic style of story telling + updates wich where big but removed every biweek. Versus farmville LS2.0
I hardly see this game as farming. I think that is a viewpoint that can easily be broken if people take the time to do it.
I rarely farm anything. I bum around PVE sometimes, PVP more often, WVW and EoTM pretty often, and sometimes run dungeons with friends.
The game -throws gold- at you for doing pretty much anything. Farming is just an easy way to kill it for yourself.
And regards your above point, RNG not being the master of everything would water down sales for those items, which would drive people to farm something else.
Off on a tangent; maybe, but guaranteed drops won’t stop the farming mentality people have.
The problem is, if newly added content requires you to play the game for 1 hour and then farm for a week. SW, then it IS very much farming.
I have had the WvW guilds, the dungeon masters, jumping puzzles frustrate me too much so i did those occasionally, PvP experiences. I have them. But i have been playing this for almost 3 years now with literally nothing new to add to those lists. unless you think boss farming is fun/lucrative, LOL.
If the game threw gold at me then why did it take me 4 months to scrape together the fractal backpiece because i didnt understand lucrative farming methods back then for 250 ectos?
Specific RNG items should be harder to get, Not via RNG0,1% ONLY but via skills, and this doesnt just mean kill X boss, but also, do this and that jumping puzzle/gain a killstreak of 30/40 people in WvW WITH RNG 10% added. But in specific areas or bosses.
Not everything should be super duper xtreme 1337 hardcore content. There could be cassual skin items added with such a system aswell giving easier JP’s. But it would also give ranging all different playstyles a chance to get something with what they are good at and get properly rewarded for it if they like it enough.
Even soulbounding items could work to remove them from TP in such vast numbers. Give 90% chance on an item to be soulbound if it drops so it doenst flood the market with a 10% chance on an item to not be soulbound so there is still a way for people who definatly dont want to do that specific content to get it.
There are so many more options anet isnt thinking about to make it fun.
I have already talked about this ‘howtogetcashifwedontcashgrab’, if you mind reading the entire thread like i am, you would see exacly what im talking about.
And for the rest, no reall point to talk with you there since you arent even bothering.
Ya i saw that, i read you wall. There is different way to earn money for a MMO. Anet went one way with gw2 and I find it awesome. You prefer another way. In the end its Anet decision and so far it seem to have pay off for them, so too bad for you.
Its not a bad decision from them. Its a decision between different system that all have their market. Whatever system they would have choose, they would have ppl that would complain about it, but its been two years so get over it pls.
^
I understand it’s a different direction from the old guild wars, but the fact that you can make the money though actually playing the game and the only thing that it affects is a player’s appearance makes this a silly point to be so worked up about. It’s making money for them, yes; that was the intent. It is not available to everyone on the same platform; no. Could it be, with enough work? yes.
And you dont need to farm for said skin either. Many aspects of the game are lucrative, and would keep the game interesting if you didn’t shoehorn yourself into running that one dungeon all the time.
But thats the essence of the problem isnt it. There is nothing fun to do wich is actually lucrative. And trust me ive played since Beta, i know tyria as a true fan all too well. But as ive stated, i am not going to waste my time looking for hidden events wich are stale not my level and boring either. Gold->Gems removes any kind of Pay2Win. Stop complaining go earn your gold, convert it and get your skin. Their system promotes buying gems but you don’t need to. They still need to earn money you know. Geez.
How does it remove pay2win? When all the content for said gold is earned doing monotone farming, aka non fun activities in a so called game.
So running a dungeon 100 times until you get a RNG drop finally is a “fun activity”
while doing the same dungeon maybe 50 times to earn the gold to buy a skin
is stupid farming … do i get that right ?
Not to forget that you can play any other content to earn gold, while for RNG drops
you mostly have to do the exact same content again and again … for me that is
monotonous farming.
I havnt touched upon the RNG aspect of all, but i can tell you right now if the dungeon is hard enough and the RNG isnt master of everything (actually drops once every 2/3 runs at end) The game would be allot more fun.
Yes, it’s pay to skin. That’s part of how they fund the servers to keep the game running.

Something tells me you just don’t like the game any more OP. While I agree the rewards are poor, I enjoy playing the game. And that, after all, is what I think games are about. Fun not what loot I get/have.
Well if you take in consideration that i loved gw1, and i loved gw2 when it was just released. And i couldnt wait for future content to be added. Because all the amazing things id have done so far where actually fun.
To then see it become a pay2skin game. Then yes you could say i do not enjoy it anymore.
They are adding content. And I don’t see how this game is pay2skin. I don’t need to buy gems to g t the skins I like. 90% of the skins in GW2 and not to my liking. And I already have 90% of the skins I like. And 100% of the skins I really want. I’ve not spent any money on gem store skins. I’ve spent plenty in the gem store, but not on the skins. I guess it’s personal preference. And how you personally view the game. But I don’t see it as pay2skin.
They are adding content, but like i originally said 70% of the devs time is spent on the gemstore. And because the interrelation with gems-gold EVERYTHING is buyable with reall money. That is pay2skin.
bro…if they don’t make moneh with gem store items, how is Anet suppost to make even moneh with this game, if not trough nice & fancy looking skind? If you have any idea, that doesn’t break game balance in that game – go ahead and speak to the world.
bla
The guildwars 1 method was making an awesome game, so people bought it because it was awesome, and add more awesome content with expansions (money earnings) wich kept gw1 afloat. There was not even a hint of ‘we make this game for money, not because we love it’ Wich in gw2, it really smells that way.

Just a small FYI, all these items where slowly pushed and introduced as a new way of monotization. It is NOT what guildwars1 thrived upon. And those where NOT interrelated with the games ingame currency at all.
I started playing gw1 with prophecies.
What a silly point, you speak like a little kid, sorry.
Think about it if ALL the gemstore items where actuall ingame earnable skins with specific content to be matched for it. If all that DEVELOPMENT time was put into the game instead of the paywall.
I can imagine that. And i realise with that prospect, sadly, the game is pay2skin.
I’m imagining that right now, wait, wait. Oh right, there is nothing because no money coming in equal no content coming out. kitten reality, why can’t dev work for free, this is stupid, really PAY FOR SERVERS, what is this nonsence, next we gonna talk about mortgage and taxes for the office, tss.
If you have any self respect, and you do a job you dont like to do. You quit it regardless. Better to be fired with a big bang then no? Instead of having no reall prospects on where the game is going so it will eventually fall into oblivion for everyone wich will get you fired anyways.
If you have any sense of responsibility, you gonna make sure you have a new job before quitting so your kids can have food on their table and a good education.
I play the content I want with my friend and I can get any skin I want if I make that skin my goal.
Some farm/grind are nice in small amount, you don’t have to that all days until you want to scream at your computer.
You don’t need to spend 1 dollar in the game if you don’t want.
Cheezy build are often one sided build that are easy to counter when you know how. It work because ppl are too bad or rage too quickly to understand what happen and what to do to counter it.
Oh I give up, this kid really.
I have already talked about this ‘howtogetcashifwedontcashgrab’, if you mind reading the entire thread like i am, you would see exacly what im talking about.
And for the rest, no reall point to talk with you there since you arent even bothering.

OMG this is too good. On the one hand, self respect… on the other hand, having a place to live and not being hungry… LOL Let me know what you wind up doing after you graduate.
Im sorry that i dont intend to live by the ‘earn money till you die’ sort of people you are probably surrounded with. To be more consumeristic as a lifestyle.
I’d wrather travel the world in a crappy van selling clothes and jewelry i made myself. Actually going on an adventure RL, seeing the most beautiful places nature made. If it ever comes to that descision.
Selling out is the worst job you could ever come across with, just saying.
Someone proclaiming the free spirit lifestyle of a traveling artisan wasting his time on a MMORPG and complaining in a gaming forum? Something is very fishy here…
The point isnt about the free spirit lifestyle, its about doing stuff thats actually enjoyable versus things that you do because you must.
And in my example i would earn less with my van, but atleast i would actually be alive and not do things i do not want to do, ever, in my life, aka have a better life alround.
The first thought that came to my mind was how fun it was to unlock all those weapon and armor skins when the wardrobe first came out…unfortunately, that’s pretty much gone now because the drop table doesn’t include many skins it could (I’m excluding the obvious like gemstore, dungeon, PvP, and karma/badge skins).
Think about it if ALL the gemstore items where actuall ingame earnable skins with specific content to be matched for it. If all that DEVELOPMENT time was put into the game instead of the paywall.
I can imagine that. And i realise with that prospect, sadly, the game is pay2skin.
I have a hard time taking seriously any post that says that “pay to skin” makes them sad.
It is literally the best pay model ever designed for a video game, especially since you can gold2gem and buy EVERYTHING with RECREATIONAL TIME.
I’m sorry, but I have to be harsh here… your point is silly.
Recreational time? My recreational time doesnt involve pressing 1 wait…wait..wait.. F, Tab,1, wait..wait..wait..
Thats not fun, thats a boring job designed for gold farming chinese people looking to make a RL profit. Making the annoying ‘buy x gems for cheaper price’
Then you are irrationally playing a video game that you hate, and that probably requires professional help from a licensed member of the medical community which you won’t get by posting about your issue on a web forum.
Or i am a dedicated fan who sees one of his favourite games become a cashgrab. After having a blast at release.
Stop making the game because your told to do it a certain way. Start making a game you would love, in EVERY aspect.
Something tells me you are still at school and have no idea of a professional hierarchy?
If your boss orders you to do something, you do it.. If not, you’re out of a job..If you have any self respect, and you do a job you dont like to do. You quit it regardless. Better to be fired with a big bang then no? Instead of having no reall prospects on where the game is going so it will eventually fall into oblivion for everyone wich will get you fired anyways.
It doesn’t work that way, eventually you get fired from enough jobs and no one will hire you for a new job then you just become an unemployed bum. As for the casual market…which would you rather target? The 1 billion plus casual market or the 25 million MMO market?
P.S.> Above number are representative and not actual numbers, but they do give you an idea of the discrepancy in customer base.
If you take for granted all jobs are boring meaningless ‘grind’ so to say. Then i feel sorry for you, because even in this day and age there are still jobs that are actually worthwhile. And not just grab the cash you spent more then half your life wasting over to consume more goods.
The reall question(for example) is, would you wrather be a high quality shoe maker, or a supermarket employee who hypotethicly earns more?
Something tells me you just don’t like the game any more OP. While I agree the rewards are poor, I enjoy playing the game. And that, after all, is what I think games are about. Fun not what loot I get/have.

Thats the point. Why i brought up the guildwars 1 model with this.
Guildwars 2 is made with the incentive to make as much money as possible, neglecting the most important stuff on why people even bought gw2 as a whole, and putting all that development time in the gemstore.
The guildwars 1 method was making an awesome game, so people bought it because it was awesome, and add more awesome content with expansions (money earnings) wich kept gw1 afloat. There was not even a hint of ‘we make this game for money, not because we love it’ Wich in gw2, it really smells that way.
The entire idea is not to maximize profit, but to accept what people are willingly to give you for a good product. Effectively having people telling people about this great game. Wich causes a boom in popularity = more money = endless lifespan. Wich could lead to expansions comming out sooner= even more money from a bigger playerbase.
The initial idea was for the gemstore to ‘earn’ the free LS content we receive to this day. But as people leave because of nothing substantial being added, profits start to fall because less people= less gemstore purchases = more gemstore items being released to even hit there status quo on what they should be earning every year wich in result means less content because all DEVELOPMENT time is sunk into it and more players leaving untill the entire game is just grind + massive amounts of gemstore items because thats all where the development is headed then.

Actually i wont mind with this model(TP), since RNG and crafting system is really bad, at least we have a good looking armor on the TP.
but yes game is farm or blob for wxp or skins nothing more.
Yeah but why would you even bother then.
Imagine having all the skins you’d want, then what.
Stop making the game because your told to do it a certain way. Start making a game you would love, in EVERY aspect.
Something tells me you are still at school and have no idea of a professional hierarchy?

Its official, they are keeping the threadmill alive, The season finale looks nothing like season1 finale.
They add 70% of all ‘cool’ skins to the gemstore every week, They add 29% of skins to the game wich is purchasable with gems->gold and 1% of skins you can actually ‘earn’ (if you even call 1% RNG chance earning) ingame without the use of gold where half is not even subpar ‘cool’. (note in gw1 there was no way to buy ingame items with cash and the only ‘gemstore’ items where a few seasonal outfits)
Since the first LS.
There is no endgame unless you like to do unrewarding, will never get you X skin because its too expensive, type of content.
Or Farm/grind all day for that 1 skin.
Or whip out your credit card and accept the fact that you are infact spending loads of cash on a virtual pixel world where there is literally nothing to do wich is even remotely rewarding/fun except play barbie doll dressup and AFK in LA.
Or cheesemode cassuals in cheesey PvP because reall skill doesnt matter, aslong as you can ‘play’ easymode meta.
Or WvW, the neverending story, wich never even started to be rewarding.
Adventure explore hidden events? Lol, why? srsly, why. Yes, its fun that they made about 90% of the entire map filled with Do X get Y events and added a small amount of actuall content in the game. But why play that now? There is no rewards, There is no skills, to be frank. There is no immersion whatsoever or attempt to get people to communicate, cant even press an action bar when your near a chair or a bed so you could actually use it.
Gw2 couldve been a single player game with mass AI spamming any enemy. It would have the same non-social experience.
I didnt not buy this game to chat in a chatbox in LA/guildchat as the endgame.
I expected 1 hardcore rediculous dungeon endgame with superduper loot after youve beaten heart of the mists explorable mode where you fight with an actuall team to defeat Bosslike non Press 1 wait, foes and wich could give you if youd have beaten it a chance to compete in a pvp like scenario after that to enter the famed ‘heart of the mist’ where you could forge a legendary weapon.
Not press 1, wait… wait.. wait.. f, tab, 1, wait wait wait, for hours and hours. Or Pay2Skin.
If the season finale really is what the ‘teaser’ shows us. I will most likely quit, because nothing is going to change at all im afraid.
The only thing i hope is that Anet quickly tries to disconnect all ties with Cassuals and business perspective, try to get the best game out there with lying to NCgreed and all other investors. And show what Anet can do for this game and its actuall dedicated players, showcasing that stepping outside of the box, is actually the only way to succeed in the MMORPG world. Wich doesnt mean ‘Ls 1 hour every month +grind.’
Stop making the game because your told to do it a certain way. Start making a game you would love, in EVERY aspect.
Its funny how people say these things are posted a zillion times yet they all are ignored and burried in the past with no change whatsoever.
Im another gw1 vet, its about time for me to start packing my stuff, buy the last stuff i want from the gemstore (mind you, for gold) and take a leave untill something challenging comes allong.
Ive given them untill the end of this season, if it ends with another sad cliffhanger or something totally unfun asin what im supposed to do ingame (like farming). Im out.
It seems all that made gw1 great is being ignored and beaten dead by the fanboy gw2 community these days.
Then.. suddenly.. Arenanet decides to lower the droprates and add more RNG during the last LS.
Speculation even if its marginal, is still speculation.
I remember when the entire orr farming was halted and the longer you killed mobs the worse the loot would get. I remember how the system worked before (getting consistant green loot items at all times) Vs after (getting more and more junk/nothing if you killed the same mob the second time or third time)
I still see this problem today. If i go farm skelks, i always get 1 or 2 T6 mats in the first 10 minutes. But after that it takes me around 30 minutes to even get 1 T6.
I see it at afking in LA for a long period of time after doing Silverwastes multiple days in a row versus a week not doing anything and suddenly get boots dropped in my inventory with the second bandit chest i open. While previously it took me over 500 chests to get one of these boxes.
I even see it at mining nodes with a watchwork pick, where the first few hauls of the day grant me atleast 1 or 2 but the last 10 dont grant me anything.
The entire anti farming mechanic is definatly still in the game at every event where mobs drop loot. It might be a bug in coding if Anet says its all RNG.
Hey guys,
Lately ive been reading allot of people thinking zerk meta is bad for the game.
That it makes it stale, to play a singleplayer game, keeping your health in check and all that.
Well the only reall awnser i can give you is this, the game is too easy. And as far as ive seen arenanet concerned they want to keep it that way.
Think about it. The trade offs. Of wearing zerker vs wearing healing armor.
There is no high risk high reward at all.
There is only damage and more damage without any risk at all. Speedclearing and soloing dungeons is one of the biggest examples of that.
I remember gw2 in beta as a hard game, where dungeons where sick hard. Because we did little to no damage in our green armor level 30 group and died at every hit. Dungeons where a blast but also a reall chore wich could take hours.
The problem we are facing is not somuch berzerker stats at all. The problem is basearmor Unequiped base stats. And how much armor high level armor actually gives.
If, lets hypotheticly speaking we remove allot of base healing from a character like an elementalist and remove all armor. The elementalist would die super fast and would be useless in an unskilled/untrained group. What if we add some extra health with it with a reall punching damage but since we have also added a bit of health its going to be less but definatly needed for survival. Now you have a sustainable class doing near max damage but has no healing capabilities. Pretty high risk, medium reward.
Lets do the same with another elementalist but instead of removing healing, we exchange that with damage output. The elementalist has the same healthpool, but does little to no damage instead of that it has allot of sustainability and can heal other party members.
The zerker meta is literally the reason of basehealth/basedamage/baseeverything +armor stats being too high. Spoonfeeding you in dungeons.
Now exchange the word elementalist with any proffesion of your liking. There you have it. The game with no zerker meta but a trinity any class can do.
Problems with this; Who has the best healing output, he will be forced into a healing role. Who has the highest damage output, guess what he will be doing… trinity is back.
Well for me personally the end will be if they fail to deliver any content i would deem my time worthy. When LS season 2 ends.
Im done with giving them more time to think about how they can make more money.
Because right now i feel the game is in a financial crisis. Release in China didnt go as good as planned. The new player experience is something created to get more people into the game instead of adding in content for veterans. And the gemstore seems to still be updated when the game itself is dying, (Empty WvW because it has never gotten any decent update), (in any zone except 80 zones there is literally almost noone left who just started out, so trying to immerse myself in a world wich is run by NPC’s is just no fun. even with the megaservers….. go figure….) (Content made to be easy wilst abandoning almost the entire community who plays this game for more then 10 minutes a day and throw them the farming stick).
After the release in China in my personal opinion there has been nothing of importance added to the game at all. Nothing.
Ive been waiting since China release for new good content. And i feel its finally time if there isnt something big before/during the LS2 end, that ive given them enough time to ponder on what to do with the game.
If wintersday/newyears/season finale is good enough wich keeps me actually playing for a longer amount of time then those first 2 days after release im already happy.
With playing i mean playing, not farming, not grinding, not press 1 button win to get X reward, not do LS2 over and over again. Not achievement hunting. playing
If gw2 doesnt pull through to me ill pull the plug and will just stop MMO’s alltogether untill EQN/Star citizen.
I think the reall question is, and i feel its valid.
Why do people do this.
And its fairly obvious, Arenanet made a farm event time gated. Im pretty sure allot of people are there not for the fun of it, but because right now at this moment all the newly added content give much bigger rewards then the older ones.
Farming is to blame. And only Anet can stop the farming, make the loot all round. Instead of nerfing laby or RNGing stuff. Give everyone a timer wich replenishes every start wich tracks your personal progression in that area (did X amount of events and spent X amount of time) To get a good return rate on loot. Problem will forever be with these types of events, Afking people.
But thats just the nature of the beast, If it maximises profit, its simply the best method to get that item you need to grind on till forever.
Another symptome of non skilled events. For me a group of 5 is ideal at such events, if there was even the sligtest communication between the group, instead of 1 commander shouting what everyone should or shouldnt be doing.
If the events where extremely hard to pull off with more people, it would be fixed (people staying in deserted areas for a greater chance at good loot)
Yeah i got the recipe of both the watchwork portal, But its account bound and its mighty expensive. You could hire a mesmer for that kind of money and make him do the JP for you.
I also recently got a teleport to a friend however. And im still saving it, i see potential to travel my 80 tomes level’d character directly to SW, without even stepping a foot outside of my starting zone. Its Funny because i might do that for a free key LS reward, it gives you the literall ability to join a random SW 80% party and just use the tome to travel there.
But im saving it for now, if there will ever be hard content i would probably want more of these and since im opening massive amounts of chests (only reall endgame use for gold when you have everything) I expect to get allot more. Once i reach 5, i might just create a new character, keyfarm till 20, and then continue keyfarming with the teleport.
Seeing as i am already saving up so many tomes from pvp, LS drops, chests and sometiems event rewards. and not to forget the insta 20 tome.
Its funny how you could literally start doing endgame instantly with a newly made character by just pressing books and eventually reach endgame zones. With absolutely no experience of the new class.
I might get a mesmer! lol.
Well whats shamefull is that i was just a young cub when i started playing gw1. And because of the challenge it gave me i continued playing and exploring a dangerous fantasy world in that.
It felt more reall and gratifying because it was hard, just like reall life. It gave me some tips of persistance in life aswell. That nothing is handed out for free. And you have to work to get somewhere.
The sad part is, in guildwars 2 there really isnt anything anymore left challenging. once youve run a dungeon too much and dont like to repeat the same old same old (fractals) it gets hard to be amused by it very fast. Its like your burnt out on content.
In a sense i hope they will add some epic dungeon content at the end of this seasons ride. Seeing as they are really graduatly trying to add harder and harder content they should give the veterans + the people who by now learned howto play something LS intensive.
I will never get the idea of a game trying to please a working crowd. Isnt it just an excuse to produce less content? and with that content more shallow content?
The idea ive gotten from guildwars 2 is simply that its not guildwars 1 but sadly, all my so called ‘historical achievements’ where saved on it, including the shiny graphics i once started playing with when i was a cub installing his first multiplayer fantasy world.
I guess the new narrative director likes….
…wait for it…
cliffhangers?
It seems allot of people are feeling this way, lets downvote all the fanboys! lol
whatever your opinion is, this was still my favourite storypart… this time around
Sorry, i got out of the boxed ‘episodic’ good story parts mindset. Because i am finally starting to see the big picture.
I definatly like the story, dont get me wrong. But i thought this was a game, not a TV show.
Episodic content isn’t a new thing just to point out.
Its new to the ‘guildwars’ franchise tho. And its definatly in my book not working out.
Still waiting for the option to Buy to win the tokens/skins in the gemstore.
Because where we are going thats going to be the end all be all ‘guildwars’ 2.
“Is there a reason to keep playing a game wich pretends to be a TV show ‘freemium’”
Fillers, unskippable cutscenes, cliffhangers, episodes of 30 minutes.
I mean seriously Anet. This isnt guildwars. This is becoming more and more a game i would expect on facebook a, as i quote southpark , ‘freemium’ with a narative TV show added into it.
Whats next? timers on dailies wich you can negate by spending gems? (in a way we already have that with the huge variaty on quickly levelling via gemstore items or exchanging gems to gold..)
The only content is dress up vanity content. Graphicly on par, but subpar at everything else. A dressed up chatbox with less to do then IMVU.
This isnt Farmvile, Yet all i see is farming.
I really dont get it, I expected guildwars 2 to be a AAA game. And yet all i see right now is farmvile with graphics with some narative TV show content to pretend to still be a playable game. When in reality all your doing is ticking boxes to get your X amount of gold per day.
Did Anet really already scare all the reall gamers away and the ‘freemium’ junkies took control? Wich is why theyr only cattering to them? Or is it even worse, the only reason gw2 is still alive is because there is renevue. No spirit, no love for the game, only there to fill the pockets of the filthy greedy pigs. Maybe its the 2 weekly content wich needs to go. Because at this rate, i cant even see these ‘updates’ as content anymore.
My hope is diminishing update after update. And eventually i feel that even a subpar game with little to no graphics would be a better investment of my time then this.
And trust me, im already looking.
If you want to update all your menus. please take in consideration that there is still a game behind it wich needs love and caring.
Replayable content, is all im asking for. And make it quick, because we, the actuall gamers, have been waiting for far too long.
I won’t presume on how much I reflect the community at large. But speaking only for myself, I can say this.
I’ve spent more on this game so far than I ever did on GW1. I did so because I believed in the game and the dev and wanted to be as supportive as I was financially comfortable enough to be. I was excited and really felt this game was “going places”. I had that excitement and faith based on how quickly they put out so much content in GW1. And with such a bigger team this time around, I absolutely expected no less for this. But we’ve gotten MUCH less so far. This is just objectively true. I like the LS enough, but the scope of it has been minuscule compared to the Cantha and Elona we got in the same time frame in the past.
I have no doubt Anet is “working on stuff”, and hey, maybe sometime in the next decade we’ll even get to see some of it (and hopefully it will even contain the things that we / I have been wanting all this time).
But my excitement and faith is largely faded by now. My money spending in this game is indefinitely “on hold” (while I have started spending time and money in other games like AA). I look forward to the next GW2 patch, and am keeping up with the LS. But the story progression is always so small and brief. And once I’m caught up on it, I don’t feel like I have any meaningful activities to participate in.
I like the themepark story content, but it always just “runs out” so fast, and then I have to wait so long until there’s more. I also like sandbox activities that feel like they matter ..but sadly GW2 has next to nothing in that regard.
So they’ve gone full-themepark mode, but so far have failed to actually deliver very much of it. Just a tiny bit here and there. And while I’m waiting for those story updates, what else is there to do? Just grind x, y, or z endlessly for no particular reason. Nothing has any consequences, nothing “at stake” to care about. Nothing has any sense of importance. No activity I can be part of that seems to matter, for myself, others, or Tyria. And because of that, after I’ve spent a couple hours catching up on the LS, the rest of my time and money can be better spent elsewhere. I’ve invested more money into this game than any other before, but I don’t feel I’ve gotten much “personal investment” in return and I thought I would have by now.
As long as Anet keeps updating the game, I suppose I’ll keep up with it. But I really didn’t expect to end up so disaffected with this franchise. It hasn’t turned out at all how I hoped it would by now and I just don’t feel that personal investment and attachment that I had wanted to. I’ve loved Tyria since 2005 and it does sadden me to admit things have gotten rather sour.
I wish I knew what this “stuff” is that’s being worked on, and I wish it would be everything I ever wanted (or at least a good bit of it). But I don’t know what it is, when it will be, or how much I’ll still care when/if it finally comes. I’m unsatisfied with the state of the game so far, and all the “question marks” about its future don’t give much re-assurance.
This.
I feel exacly the same way.
+1
People talking about percentages… go look at the Achievement Points leaderboards. I’m going from my friends and guild lists, which unfortunately don’t feature a nice spread, but it’ll do for a couple of examples.
A player with 3645 AP is in the 90% bracket. That means that fewer than 10% of all players ever got to 3645 AP.
A player with 420 AP is in the 40% bracket. Meaning 40%+ of all players never even got to 420 AP.
Tell me again how “most” players are demanding hardcore content?
I’m not against it, in moderation. But pretending it would be touched by anything other than a small section of the population is ridiculous.
I know some fantastic players who can solo dungeons all day long, and appreciate a real challenge, who have very little AP because most of the content behind APs is pretty lame and unchallenging. Considering a large portion came from LS, tons from WvW and PVP (they do neither), and many more from map completion/jps/collecting stuff, then if all they did was the bare minimum of content to get to lvl 80 and then moved onto the only challenging content in the game, it’s pretty easy to only have 2k or less achievement points.
I think you forgot to mention that all the sane people who used to play and used to make up a large portion of the player base quit because of no content. so whats left are new people. waiting to realise there is no content they will probably leave aswell.
Doomsday scenario? or already happening…
So i can mindlessly farm chests all day, but i cant do cof all day for gold. jeez they really want there playerbase to become risen dont they.
So what you really want is not replayable content, but repeatable content with a better reward ratio than we currently have?
Well if it would mean the world outside of the farming zones would come alive. sure.
But i do not really understand the difference between replayable and repeatable.
Only thing this game needs is replayable content.
How do you define “replayable content”?
stops rambling and looks around confused
Sorry, what was the point of my post again? Ah, yes: This game is actually filled with tons of replayable content. The main problem is that it’s your own decision whether (or how) you utilize that content. Do only one small facet of the game’s content (e.g. currently farming the Silverwastes all day long) and you will quickly get bored of it, even to the point of burn out. Mix things up, and try (again) things you haven’t done (in a while), and you will be surprised at the wealth of replayable content we already have. Of course, more replayable content is always welcome, but currently I fail to see what specific kind of content could fill a niche in this game that is not already filled.Which brings me back to my initial question(s):
How do you define “replayable content”? And what makes this content you think the game needs different from the replayable content we already have?
Replayable content is content that is worth replaying.
As it stands any exp/karma/silver you get for completing any event or quest is not worth it.
This is still an MMO not a single player experience in my eyes. So while running around goallessly and aimlessly is obviously an option. the shineys need to be corresponding to what your doing.
The only way people regardless of playstyle deem doing quests in queensdale is worth it is by simply ignoring the fact they will not get appropriatly rewarded for it. Unless you are infact someone who is new to the experience then any amount of gold is worth it.
In the end an MMO should give the user an endgoal. maybe not endgame, but atleast some extra spurs of motivation to actually finish a quest from start to finish except 1 silver and a bit of copper, per quest chain
Ive ran around tyria for long enough to realise the only content worth replaying is content with appropriate rewards, and in this case the only appropriate reward is infact gold because guildwars 2 runs on gold. Or atleast something epic happening at every quest. instead of ‘kill oozes till time runs out’- ‘get 1 silver’- nothing in the world changes except there might or might not be a followup quest wich eventually just rinses and repeats regardless if you where there at that time or not.
The idea is doing events is not impactfull in the slightest once you play this game long enough. Every event in the end boils down to loot at its core. hence why almost noone actually ‘travels’ tyria but would much wrather just TP around at the ‘profit’ areas. Hence why SW is so crowded yet some random place in ascalon there will literally never be more then 3 people at a time, even with megaservers. And thats not all, once there are those 3 people, they are either AFK, do not understand talking or are just plain simply levelling and dont want to be disturbed.
If i want to immerse myself in gw2 a larger portion of the community should also be immersed. and WP literally negates the entire immersion bit.
I have gone to lengths of waiting 3 hours on a map with a commander tag, JUST to explore around with a party seeking adventure.
In the end the only way to get people with you is to pay them with gold….
When i propposed i wanted to travel to lions arch by foot from DR, people just WP’d there.. absolutely killed all immersion.
So in the end the only replayable content ingame is content that pays. Just look at the SW keyfarm before they patched the numerous chest spawns and after. Before there where aproximatly 10 key-sw servers at all times. after the nerf it died down completely and sometimes one pops up when you are really desperate for it.
Just because i can explore every crook of the map, doesnt, i repeat, doesnt make it meaningfull in the slightest. an eventline with a big world boss ussually does make it meaningfull.
And if we talk about worthwhile content wich is fun and actually pays. the list is short of replayable content.
Also PvP and WvW havnt been updated since release, PvP still only has 1 mode capture 3 points. and WvW capture buildings. not much diversity there either.
Oh and when you try to roam alone on a non roaming class/proffesion, you get ganked 100%. so much for fun.
Well i would love new skills for PvE only content. Wich then eventually after severe tweaking might get imported to PvP.
Only thing this game needs is replayable content. Not story driven do once, content.
Same reason why i dont watch that one just released episode of my favourite anime 40 times in a row. Its boring.
If they actually added stuff with replayable content wich isnt ‘i dont care about my characters skills, progressions, class, race cuz all i do is press 1,1,1,1 no matter what zerg im in’
i probably wouldnt complain anymore.
But as it stands now, and the game is severly lacking replayability im hovering over the idea to uninstall, because why play something ive done too much already with the past 6 months having nothing new thrown on my stick, eventho i do still want that carrot.
(edited by ErazorZ.5209)
To be fair, i didnt start complaining untill the LS became the sole purpose of this game.
To me it feels content driven updates are getting smaller and smaller, and replayability(the keyword) is non existant.
Unless you like to create a new character and go through all the hasle of doing the same 1-80 story in its core essence over and over again. I do not like repeating such events. Because in my opinion, zaithan already got killed by my elementalist.
Most challenging dungeons where really fun the first few times, my first gw2 burnout came from CoF, funny enough, after it got nerfed. Because i suddenly realised there was money to be made there. so i played part 1 daily, after a month it started to get boring because it is the same thing you do over and over again. mindlessly. so i quit doing that for a few months it was fine. eventho whenever i have a full day of playing , i feel im forced to do it again, because everything is capped behind a ‘once a day’ thing. and to be truthfull if there was enough content wich on the one hand is fast paced and done quickly (so you can do it even if your in a hurry) but plentiful in quantity, i could choose. But gw2 right now doesnt allow me to choose. because there just isnt the content to back it up.
So whats left here is doing the same daily routine every day, if you just like dungeons. Same goes for PvP, WvW, pretty much everything even PvE where there is only 1 way to really farm gold the most efficient way.
We need more replayable content. And thats it. We dont need a story arch wich is fun, for the story, once. Hence why i have 0 AP points from the LS this new season, i do not like to replay something ive already done if the sole purpose is story.
Its funny how my posts are getting shorter and shorter because in essence its all about 1 thing.
Fun, Replayable, Lasting Content. Not a farm, so whats left?
A challenge. The only replayable content that can remain a challenge even after you have done it many times already is PvP. In any PvE case, the challenge will be lesser and lesser on any subsequent tries. Unless someone is incapable of learning, of course.
That does not mean there shouldnt be PvE content like it.
It means it should get updates and patches more often, Just like they are doing with zerg farming events. And hell i would much wrather earn my gold via PvE content wich requires me to use my skills and utilities then in a mindless zerg fest. Especially if it grants me the same return rate in gold vs time spent.
Ea. 1 boss takes 30 minutes, 30 minutes chestfarming grants howmuch gold on average? it should be the same. Doing mundane tasks shouldnt be the only way to increase gold capacity at a decent rate. And right now as it stands zerg farm content earns about 5/10 times as much then any single boss ingame. Just look at tequatl.
Killing a huge legendary dragon grants you the same riches as running around opening boxes with keys? Oh no wait, it grants you even less with a bonus RNG on skins. And its capped to once a day. And your event reward is almost the same as any other event at the same level. Be it helping frogs to killing any champ on the map.
The problem is obvious if you ask me.
Its funny how my posts are getting shorter and shorter because in essence its all about 1 thing.
Fun, Replayable, Lasting Content. Not a farm, so whats left?
A challenge.
All im asking is SOMETHING to do past this point wich isnt farming or repeating the same dungeons for the 100th time. or play the story AGAIN.
I think all of us could agree on that, the problem is, what kind of content can you honestly imagine that fits these criteria? A challenging boss sounds great on paper, but how exactly do you define challenge? Does it force you to pay attention to certain mechanics, like e.g. the final Hidden Arcana boss fight? Does it force you to have good reflexes and know his ability tells and how to avoid/profit from them, like Lupicus? Does it involve a decent degree of rng to be on your side, with overlapping abilities that can appear in easier and harder combinations?
What challenge level is the right one for this game? Liadri level? I know a ton of people that never got close to beating her, as well as lots of people that claim she was easy once you knew her attacks and had enough practice to get the right reflexes working at the right times. What part of the community is this content supposed to keep busy, and for how long?
And lastly, how do you design the rewards for this kind of content to encourage people to spend their time with it, but not farm it? From my own experience in different MMOs, I have yet to come across content that was really played for a long time for the content itself. Either people replay it to farm the rewards, or they deem the rewards not worth the effort and go play other things once they’ve conquered whatever one-time rewards (in our case achievements) the content offers.
You can already see the divide in the (certainly not overly challenging) new living story content. Check out all the threads on the forums that claim the content is not worth playing, by people that find it too challenging to bother as well as by people that find it too easy. There are tons of people claiming the last episode does not have replayability, because they don’t enjoy the content (too easy, too hard, too boring, too zerg-heavy, too skill-reliant, too grindy, too much work for comparable loot, whatever). Some would obviously be more happy with “press 1 in zerg” type of content. Others would prefer more (solo or group) puzzles. Again others want more story and lore. Others want classic dungeons/raids. Yet others want “real MMO, not Pac-Man”.
Like I said above, I’m all for something new and challenging to play, I just haven’t really figured out how to design such content (be it a single boss, a minigame or whatever) to really fit my criteria. Maybe that would be the better opening for a thread, try to brainstorm how veteran content really looks like (mechanic-wise, skill-level-wise, reward-wise) instead of the nebulous “we need veteran content” where each person posting has a different idea of what kind of content we are talking about.
Well my personal suggestions where in the end, make something like liadri. It doesnt have to be beaten by everyone thats the entire point of hardcore content. Thats why there is also a living story for people who dont enjoy that sort of content.
farmability only applies if content is too easy so it needs to be really hard.
And rewards, even with liadri people where more then glad when they got a title or a mini. In my personal opinion it should give something wich is locked behind RNG in farm/zerg content so obtainable without doing the boss. But still a clear display of victory over it (title/a daily/maybe even monthly chest etc)
The boss’ mechanics should be various. I liked the liadri fight because you could learn it, but i also disliked it because exacly as youve pointed out once you learned it you mastered it and it became pretty easy.
Lupi is good content in that perspective but with so many 1 man clears its also hard to say it cant be easily soloed when understood. I feel the boss should simply have those 2 types of combat combined with a close attention to what isnt working and what is, aka a work in progress. Like most LS zerg bosses where they get nerfed if its too hard and unfinishable after a month or so.
I feel people keep missing the point.
There is clearly, even if its a minority, craving for harder/veteran content.
I do not care about people who do not want it.
I have already stated about 3 times now that i dont ask for a complete revamp of the teams working on the living story.
All im asking is SOMETHING to do past this point wich isnt farming or repeating the same dungeons for the 100th time. or play the story AGAIN.
You people who keep saying, NO, without even reading the entire thread and still wanting to grasp the idea im trying to convey are doing it wrong.
I ask you to read all my posts in this thread to showcase what i am requesting.
Its not something big and fancy, people keep overreading that.
its 1 mob thats hard. thats it. Because i also know the majority of players DO like to farm and do stuff.
But people seem to be too stuck in the way of thinking that THEY themselves dont need it. Thats fine. Im not asking for entire content to be completely focussed on the veterans. Im asking for something to do wich i havnt done about a 100 times already.
Im asking for something re-playable that could keep people like me occupied. It doesn’t have to be fancy, it doesn’t have to be game changing. just.. something. Hence why i used liadri as an example. With the pavilion update everyone got something. Either youd farm the pavilion with massive zergs, or youd play the story, OR you could try and beat liadri.
The sad part about this is. There is no permanent content added for people like me since, well, since the pav… it is JUST cattering these days to the mass farming market. And i do feel that this is unfair.
If the cassuals who are still ‘enjoying’ the roots of the game, thats fine.
But for anyone who figures out allot of stuff relatively quickly, finishes all the content in a breeze because of it. Should they get punished with absolutely no content at all. If yes please Anet tell us so we can all leave.
Just because we are a small demographic and the brunt of players are people who only recently started out/are playing the game at a slower pace, doesnt mean we should get left out at everything.
In my personal opinion i heard allot of good things about liadri back in the day. Why cant we, the veterans, have a small portion at least in the game?
Im not asking for a complete revamp of content, neither am i asking for a huge overly done elite mordremoth spawn every month. Im asking for 1 legendary VETERAN jungle troll who doesnt just get facerolled when you understand what a good build is and how to play it. with corrosponding rewards.
I dont get why people are against that.
All im asking is replayable content for hardcore/veteran people. Nothing big, nothing fancy, just gametime i can spend without having to farm all day. because people like us, who do understand how the game mechanic can maximise potency are bored.
I dont care if you have a legendary or not. i dont care for a legendary myself either, because it is nothing more then farming. doing mundane tasks to get gold at a slow pace. because even if it grants me a shiny, it doesnt grant me the feeling of an epic adventure i had to overcome because there is nothing to overcome.
Its literally like that title ‘been there, done that’
Has anet ever explicitly stated they care to put out more content for more dedicated players? Serious question here, I am all for it but the more I play gw2 the more I feel that the Devs have come to the conclusion that;
A) They are the smallest demographic of players
B) They demand the most and hardest to please
C) They are the quickest to complain and stir the controversy pot
D) They burn through content the fastestAll of these kinda spell out a why bother situation to me.
Just asking and I wish anet would say something of their intentions because if they don’t care to make content for dedicated players so that these players can move on and find something to satisfy them.
Thats the thing i guess. being strung allong with no prospect of good OR bad.
And i cant imagine if they can make whole farming zones with zerg bosses that 1 superduper hard boss is something they cant code or is too much.
