Blackbeard, ive just taken a quick glimpse on your builds you posted, thank you for the response. but most of those builds i have ran with moderate succesion problem being there never seems to be enough dps to down most of the people in series of 1v1’s for instance recapping home etc. And thats where my really problem atm lies, not even talking about people focussing me because im a staff ele.

I did however just changed my build a bit since i went hybrid zerker with celestial (with 4 in fire) neglectingg the GM trait6 of water wich probably gives allot of anti condi (wich i forgot)

So thanks allot and it seems i too need to fall vicitim to the 000066 meta

Well ofcourse staff ele is ggood if enemy-ppl stay in circles trying to cap eatingg up all the AoE shots and just isnta die cuz of it.

And yes, hes BM by calling out to my skill, wich he obviously doenst know anythingg about..

I think you need to stop Bming this thread eurnatien and actually accept the idea that elementalist staffs are terrible in sPvP. seeing as there is no matchmaking whatsoever hence there is always the guy who just started playing versus 5 r80ies where you need to actually figure out yourself what to do cause you Cant relly on your team.

Also where do i find his traitset/runeset etc eurantien? Im wondering how much of an anti condi build he has….

I dont have friends who are good enough to join me on my quest to own everything or even willingly want to try to even PvP at all.

So literally theres no hope for me, a staff elementalist to actually be a mage, not a healing bot, a mage.

Hey guys,

I wanted to discuss the option the staff ele has in sPvP/tPvP.
Because im slowly running towards a brick wall.

It seems anet really doesnt care about staff eles trying to play sPvP, and want to bandwagon all eles into S/D or D/D, and to be honest im not a D…
..player.

I have always had the idea that the elementalist would shine through pure skill, through the use of skills in certain orders wich would give insane damage combos if you pressed everything exacly right. The skillbased attunement switching giving extra survivability and the damage output shouldve been a force to be reckoned with. (it actually was like this for a short while really early in the game, beta aswell)

At the moment the state of the game of the staff ele is literally non existant because of the following problems;

Conditions. Any dedicated condition build will out condition your condition removal. This is due to the stupifying fact that the staff elementalist doesnt have a reliable tool to remove condition with, efficiently. ( i will go in detail about diamond skin and why its terrible if someone is wondering about that ) Even if you go full anti condition runes/traits you will still die versus anyone who knows howto use his class without much of a hassle at all.

Bunkers. After aprils update staff elementalist are ussually in stalemates vs bunker guardians or bunker elementalist. The raw damage an elementalist does these days doesnt meet the fix of actually being capable of downing someone who knows howto dodge big skills and then heal/bunker up time and time again due to slow recharge times of elementalist ‘big’ skills making it literally impossible to ever down someone (Even in FULL zerkerglasscannon!)

Berserkers. Its kind of sad how i am actually needing to put this up here even after the aprils update. But its true. The elementalist being the paperarmor they have ussually get insta downed by any dedicated zerk combo by constant; knockdown/stuns/fears.

There is one problem ALL elementalist staff players should by now realise.

The stupidly long utility trait cooldowns. Why is this Anet? Why do you give an elementalist cooldowns of over 60 seconds to just break stuns or condi cleanse? Can anyone say useless more? I mean theres literally no reall reason for this.

The next problem, its still the same old kittening stuff. no healthpool if you want to scratch the surface of an heavy armor user wich is literally null and void now with the aprils update. You might survive a bit longer but your cooldowns still remain the same. and even if ppl just play bunker those cooldowns are still too kittening long.

The final problem, Since staff elementalist are so centric about CCing that any class that has a constant stream of access to stability, they can just roflstomp you and ignore ALL your CC you cast wich have extreme cooldowns (again) (we need a stability strip utility/trait)

These are the various issues i run against whilst running a staff elementalist in sPvP or tPvP. I will not ask for nerfs or buffs just yet, lets first start with a possibility pool.
Where people theorycraft about builds wich might work for the Staff elementalist.

Chaos of Lyssa, the first item wich got in gw2 with a rediculous drop rate, precursor like but in a meta event. FINALLY Anet is giving this game and people some exclusivity.

Too bad i had that with liadri mini BEFORE the nerf and now its too easy, so not even worth mentioning.

Only shame is that this is pure RNG, so eventually itll go to the hands who has the most gold or actuall cash converted to gems to gold since its not account bound.

We need more UNOBTAINABLE skins guys, you really all wanna look exacly the same? Enough armor skins you say? so why is almost 50% of the people with over 5k AP wearing a light of dwayna? or why is every rich warrior wearing the exact same ‘legendaries’?

We need more skins that are actually super duper rare. Eventually everyone will have 1 of those super duper rare skins regardless of value, since theyve played the game long enough. But instead of all wearing the exact same skin, itll be all sorts of skins and cool types of armor youve never seen before or always wanted.

As it stands now they are adding more and more ‘expensive’ skins to achieve this goal and im happy with that. Now all they have to do is wrap around a good storyline about the next elder dragon with a quest where you have to travel all over tyria for so you eventually get to a new area wich you go to ONLY after youve done this quest wich tells you the lore about the dragons and such wich immerse you in it. With a one time after kill:“pick the weapon skin you want from these super ultra legendary various types of staff skins all sorted with there own cool super awesome effects etc, but only once in your entire characters carreer you can do this so choose wisely since its permanent.” sort of thing. This would mean exclusivity by achieving. Anyone will eventually reach it since its permanent, but since there is a ton of different skins and you can only pick one it will keep its ‘skin’ value.

Also this would be a quest where you would actually choose what role you want in the gw2 universe (with a title variation on wich path you take)

(my personal experience in gw1 when ascending to unlock new areas IT WAS AWESOME)

Also make it a bossfight worthy of an elder dragon where you need a well equipped coordinated party AFTER defeating another contender party in a PvP type match where you get to choose the skin if you achieve the goal and if you fail you get some sort of token so you can still farm your way towards it if your not that good. (with a foolproof PvP match before everytime so ppl cant just /suicide and redo it)

Sorry ranting on, I love the new exclusivity of skins, RNG not so much.

I have a new word for this sort of thing;

Commmunism Wars 2; Everyone is equall.

I dont really mind them giving these skins to newer players, but jeez, can i ever find something original in this game that i can actually mold my character around instead of seeing 200 people with the exact same armor skins.

I mean, i really dont feel like that ‘awesome hero’ if everyone looks just like me.

Same with legendaries it kind of ruined it for me in that sense. Still not sure if i want to go for my bifrost or not, since everyone already has it. Doesnt feel legendary to me if 200 ppl wear the same staff (needs way more legendary type skins so people can never farm them all and theres always a next step in regards to collecting.)

This game is about skins right? Then howcome i feel everytime theres a new cool skin on the block asif im in another game wich just released and expansion where you can now further level up fromm 60 to 70! Eventually everyone has done it, everyone will wear it, everyone will get bored of it… And then the next cool skin comes along, same story all over again.

I get that anet wants us to keep playing but this is getting kind of stale.

The only way i feel special now is when i wear my celebration hat, but in reality it makes me seem ‘special’ in all sorts of different ways when i wear it on my female char..
(its one of the only skins that has not returned allong with a few others wich i will not mention in fear of anet actually realising it and also communisticly adding that to a new vendor with X type currency in a new release)

Im not asking for a super overpriced skin or 1 super rare item. im asking for multiple incredibly hard to get items to get that feeling of seeing someone with a legendary in the first few weeks of gamerelease when i see it.

Chaos of Lyssa, I love it, its rare, gives you a feel of ‘Wow where did you get that’ and the entire price speaks for it. RNG dropratetactics, not so much.

Where is my super rare spawn boss wich only spawns every server maintance wich no one even dares to touch cuz its too hard with a big treasure chest deep inside of its cave. Or is the idea of actually having a goal to achieve in a non farmy way not cassual enough?

Arenanet should CONFIRM theyr working on countering terrible-condi spammers.

There is no point equiping hardcounter runes JUST to beat 1 type of players.
Since youll get wrecked by ANY other decent build and you have literally no freedom to do what you want at all. (aka BREAKING the game)

Conditions need a hardcore nerf, make them harder to use or atleast make them have huge cooldowns if they do this absurd damage.

I dont get why arenanet really doesnt care about conditions. It BREAKS the game at this point. It did before patch and after patch.

Any decent pvpers who know howto play wanna make a full out 5 character condi pro team? Just to show it can literally beat anything with no skill. and beat any pro team just by spamming conditions.

Im getting sick and tired of people saying you can ‘hardcounter’ condis but they forget to say that when you do you literally have to fully commit to anti condi and ONLY fight condis otherwise your severly behind traitswise/damagewise etc. This is not how an ‘esport’ should be played. to hardcounter a build JUST to defeat it.

Anet didnt listen to any cooldown problems, or survivability problems with these few patches, why do they care so little?

They kill-nerf our highest dps with a ‘ferocity’ change, and circles among our meteor showers.

Are there just no staff eles left to speak out or what?

Only fix staff ele need in my personal fully ascended, roaming wvw staff ele no alts build. is good 1v1 capabilities. ele staff can kill stuff 1v1 on equall skill level. except thief-invisiblespam-builds and condi-necros.

Or you need to specificly spec to defeat those.

1 dodge btw on a big cooldown spell = insta lose sadly.

So get rid of huge cooldowns noone needs and the class can actually do stuff.

Think about this,

crafting leatherworking from 0-500 + the 15 elionan leather is CHEAPER then being 500 artificing needing 15 damask.
youll save about 50gold that way, thats NOT fair.

No. It is not. I am a fully attunement dancing might combofielding CCing ele myself. wanting to be capable of more intensive apm casting but am locked due to constant cooldowns.

if you want you can get 1 and 2. For PvP imagine you had 5 people standing around D/D Ele 30/20/10/10/0 full zerk and scholar runes you Burning speed+LF ROF and Fire grabbed or used the S/D combo double arcanes on both you probably will kill those 5 people.

Hmm… let me guess, ele will be dead somewhere halfway on burning speed. Same thing as with earth 5 – great potential, almost useless on practice.

As for WvW – I play scolar fullzerk staff ele there and its a lot of fun. Surely you just cannot roam in small groups or solo in such build, but when it comes to zergfights you are doing just terrifying damage combined with decent CC. Don’t trust those who say that people aren’t taking this damage, if you place your attacks right – they do, they just have no choice. Absence of red circle on shower helps that too. Don’t believe those who say that you will be downed on sight – you wont. You have great defensive and escape abilities, 1200 range and whole your zerg for meatshielding. If you are doing right you’ll probably escape even when your zerg is defeated, even without fgs. And don’t believe those who say that zergfights are 1-spamming. Placing your attacks, managing fields and CC, thinking about self-security is challenging and fun.

Well i for one always dodge when i see a single meteor land, making the entire shower just a whack a mole ‘kill the ele when hes STILL busy casting!’

Also please enlighten the elementalist community as a whole by telling us what kind of mystical legendary ‘defensive’ capabilities your talking about.

Any thief/warrior can chase you till the bitter end since they have MORE mobility then any staff ele could ever wish for. And as it happens to be in wvw these days about 30% of all people ATLEAST are warriors and thiefs.

CCing zergs worked half a year ago, now every zerg has stability making ALL CC useless. Atleast if your fighting a non pug wvw server… waterfields are cool and all but i thought we where talking about a High damage low health ele, you know.. that wich does not heal even remotly enough to keep a zerg alive from a single superior arrow chart.

All your claims so far is what a small minority of cassual elementalist thinks because he could escape by running away after casting 1 meteorshower wich hit 3 people who dont know what meteor shower is to begin with so dont dodge. (and dont forget hitting a ram isnt effective use of meteor shower dps if zerg knocks on your door)

Please make a video or show some proof of what your claims are if you actually think you know better then the majority (i feel it is the majority after reading the forums/talking in wvw about ele) of staff users atm.

Because to be honest your either cassual, main another class and dont want ele to be competetive, or Anet balancing team fanboy in my honest opinion.

Oh and btw, using an enchanted broom to summon a cauldron is fun aswell, completely utterly useless, but fun. Fun doesnt mean balanced/competitve however.

Double sigils will slightly counter this nerf. And if it’s just crit damage that gets the nerf bat, and not the actual damage then we’ll even end up with slightly higher numbers. Especially if you stack force and night.

didn t they say they are reducing damage of 2H of 5% because now they consider 2H to have default sigil of force?

So if you put it back the change in dps of 2H won t actually change at all..

This would actually be a very good thing, since it promotes versatility in capabilities of what a 2h does.

I think it depends on how good the remade sigils will be in that case. But im just already pretty alarmed at this stage.

I mean, i like being an underdog hence why i staff zerker ele. But if they want to get rid of even the slightest possibility of winning a 1v1 then i will be very very dissapoint.

20K meteors are only possible if you use tornado.
blank meteors are NOT 20k. You try to hit 20k meteors in a zerg when ur lowarmor gets insta sniped and killed when you even start casting meteor shower, let alone, run ammock in a zerg with tornado on. and this is expecting people dont just.. get out of the shower since its VERY easy to get out of.

Also wvw ‘zergs’ are nothing but a numbers game, the one who has the biggest zerg or best commander wins, NOT the classes races or whatever. (except thief zergs cuz constant invisible rezzing should be nerfed)

Tornado is an elite skill, tell me WHY you should not use it? It´s the same thing as might for, lets say, a warrior. Do you think warriors could output high numbers without might or vulnerability on the enemy?

As I already mentioned above, GO AND PLAY SOME WvW and come back. There are guilds like Good Old Days(GD) or Red Guard(RG) which destroy zergs two times there size. Numbers dont matters, classes do!(usually every top guild will run warriors, guardians and elementalists + a few necros and mesmers).

Did you just .. not read what i typed out?

Before your Meteor shower is done casting your already instantly targetted.
If you want to go run in a ZERG being focussed when your casting Tornado youll be dead before the first meteor hits.

And this is also implying that people STAY in meteor showers. I really do hope you read this. People DONT stay in meteor showers. If you do, im sorry to tell you but, YOU need to go play some more WvW then.

Hello my fellow Elementalists,

As we have all seen in the last few ‘possible update changes’ in zerker armor etc.
Anet is planning to nerf zerker armor.

I suddenly realised today, that that day will be the end of the elementalist who plays staff DPS zerker. Why you might ask? I’ll tell you why….

Cooldowns, as most elementalist who have tried staff probably figured out by now, allot of cooldowns on staff and utilities take forever to get off cooldown once cast.

I will be theory crafting in this topic since the entire details arent out yet and sigils could change everything. But i wanted to know what the general opinion is about this.

Lower DPS means higher survivability right? This sounds good, but im afraid its quite the opposite. The zerker elementalist has a low HP pool and low defensive capabilities, I want you to think about this scenario for this exact problem.

Thiefs, in general already quite a problem for the occasional staff dps elementalist due to backstabbing and constant cloaking when theyr almost downed, just imagine, when almost all your skills are on cooldowns and you cannot use that last spell to kill him since hes invisible. hence leaving you with huge cooldowns, no defenses versus a fast attacking thief. who shadow refugees to heal and then to just kill you with his fast recharging cooldowns ,since you have nothing off cooldown left except fire 1 wich doesnt come close to killing a refugeed thief.

Any decent staff elementalist will cast most of his AoE on himself so if the thief comes close he will need to burn his own HP to try to do damage. And ussually if you do this timely and dodge most first attacks you will scare him off by having a few crit hits and make him cloak and run.

Now imagine your AoE doing less damage, whilst the cooldowns remain the same. Thiefs can now engage inside your AoE taking less damage hence doing more close combat-high-damage And your stuck with everything on cooldown.

Next class; think about mesmers and there clones. less dps means clones stay alive longer, means more surivability for mesmers but the elementalist is left out again due to no health/armor.

Warriors then? This is the easiest for us to imagine, i feel. constant unstun, rediculous high armor/health dps. Only way to defeat this correctly is baiting his unstun on a low stun skill and kiting. Now imagine lower DPS for both. High armor pools get even more reduced damage, the fight will take longer, you cast your CC, theyr all on cooldown and you didnt have enough DPS to take him down whist CCing him. GG.

I might talk very bitter about this. But the fact remains low armor proffesions are hurt the most with a decrease in DPS if they (like the DPS ele) dont have surivability. And the HIGH armor classes take even less damage then before.

And i want to know your, in detail, thoughts about this. Is it really as bad as i feel it will be?

@ErazorZ: Am I correct in assuming that you’re the type of player that measures WvW effectiveness by how well a profession can duel 1v1? Because I’ve no shortage on damage while fighting in the zerg. In fact, I believe the current ‘to beat’ is 20k per meteor in a Meteor Shower (that can hit 5 players per meteor, thus effectively going over the 5-man cap as well). I’ve yet to see a warrior (or warmachine) that can beat that.

And at the guy above me, im sorry to say this but i already stated PvEasy is nothing more then spamming 1’s.

Also DPS is damage per second right?.. now add up all that cooldown time and see how well you score if your not a stationary ‘2,1’ presser in fire since this is not possible in wvw. ever.

Im talking about PLAYING a staff elementalist, not WATCH it do damage. (aka attunement dancing etc)

24/7 Lavafont which hits 3-4k every second + autoattack which hits for 3k every second so you deal 6k dmg/sec. Now count in meteor shower(which can hit for 20K EACH HIT combined with tornado) and you have already the highest dps in the entire game. Add water 2, earth 2, frostbow and tell me again “Ele do little to no reall damage in staff”.

Or warriors who can tank anything AND deal massive ammounts of damage with constant anti stun Or necro spamming who can just get twice the ammount of life while doing more tic dmg then your font can do to anyone standing still.

It definatly isnt the definition of a robe MMO caster.

At this moment in time i feel elementalist is a medium damage, low armor, high cooldown ‘Boon-kitten’

staff ele is one of the highest DPS dungeon builds out there; compared to it warrior DPS is nothing.

I can’t agree or disagree as I honestly don’t know any better from a DPS comparison standpoint.

However mobs aren’t smart enough to run out of AoEs which makes the weapon even more awesome in PvE. I remember when GW1 implemented some mob smarts and ruined fire-storm for example. I wonder how GW2 would play with that type of logic.

They don’t. Just spam fire 2 all day and you win at dps. This obviously works best if your group is stacking/LOS’ing on a corner to get enemies clumped up and immobile.

If you are talking about supporting then i understand where you are comming from.
Im not talking about supporting, im talking about being capable to do damage outside of zergs wich is pretty non existant.

Personally what i experience as a full time ele since beta is that the following is very active in the ele atm, Pidgeon holing is one big part of it;

No reall condition removal, we can get a trait for it, sure, but its not reliable or fun to be pidgeon holed in a certain trait to surive condition spammers. We might get a utility slot for it, but condi spam dont just put 1 condi on you. they constantly condi you, and with high cooldowns it seems impossible to defeat unless your specifically specced to defeat a condi user.

If we spec traits at this stage we have a very definite pick. You either Go full out DPS zerker mode, or you go ultra defensive tanky mode.
Both have weaknesses greater then the strenghts of each.

As you can see in the Ele forums allot of elementalist either complain about being super squishy OR having no damage output. The sole reason of this is that the only reall traits worth having are the grandmaster traits, wich instantly pidgeonholes you into one or the other. Aka, you cannot mix and match as i think was intended to find that sweet spot, its OR you do dps, OR you go tank. since if you do both, you cannot get the good (needed) GM traits and the weaknesses greatly outshine the boons.

Cooldowns,

My personal opinion on this as a primary staff user is that cooldowns at this stage for a staff user who wants to roam is literally impossible to do. Huge cooldowns on all big money spells even if you constantly attune-swap, same goes with a few money casting times. I feel AIR 2 can be fixed alone with lowering the cooldown + cast time whilst removing time on howlong the opponent is blinded. (this is an example of what i mean)

Me personally i have adapted to the idea that im a berserker elementalist with no healthpool and slight healing capabilities and that whenever i see a condi user or a skilled thief i will die regardless. Same with mass stunbreakers from enemies. (since staff ele in that sense is 50% CC, you autoloss vs anyone who has short cooldowns on stunbreakers or is specced that way.

I feel auras could be a solution, increase uptime of arcane aura for example or give small extra aura buffs regarding both survivability and dps(like combofield auras), This way, the traitset is instantly fixed due to having more survivability as full dps or it can give some extra dps as tank.

If auras would be added, DONT make it a GM trait, otherwise youll instantly pidgeon hole the class again.

One example of a great aura;

If power is X
Aura gives X seconds toughness/healing or attack blocks
If toughness is Z
Aura gives Z seconds might/critical chance etc.

make this a passive trait with not too high of boons, without cooldowns wich hit whenever you combofield correctly for example. This way you can literally create any sort of elementalist whilst still kind of being generally capable to actually do more then JUST WvW or JUST PvE.

Ive tried to play sPvP allot myself as a staff user, and in general i can punch some good punches but in general condi spammer or 1 or 2 thiefs its constant downing and i become the weakest link of my team.

What i meant in WvW was more small groups play.
Elementalist dont really have anything except CC and CC is hardcountered by anyone who uses anti stun stuff. even in a group. it reduces the effective DPS of the party at that stage. So your stuck in the zerg. with CC wich have no use.

With meteor shower i kind of meant that youll only be in zergs spamming 5 because the rest isnt really worth it. doesnt add allot. even if you manage to get a good air 5 off a group of the zerg 1 antistun and its nullified wich is bound to happen with any organised guild playing.

Also the waterfields might seem good, but in general the only good one is 5 for taking towers, and that has a huge cooldown aswell.

Yes you are correct, staff is lovely to play.
Ive used it since start of beta.

But once you start exploring something different then PvE you will notice that the issues you are showcasing slowly start to really hurt.

PvP ele staff is literally unviable, low HP, low defences, slow dps or low dps. and ofcourse huge recharge times.
WvW staffs main goal is to spam fire 5, meteor shower. there goes versatility, lol.
Dungeons, casttimes are too slow in a decent group, before you start spiking huge dps most enemies are already dead.
Rest of PvE vs enemies who dont insta die with 1 100-blade are very fun and rewarding to fight…

Where did scaling for events go?

If youd scale a server to the other server, for example

10 people vs 40 people
10 ppl get 400% there original stats.

sure it might ruin 1v1’s but this isnt sPvP and we should be capable to deliver the same blow as they could. this would also encourage pugs to join WvW at any given time since they can actually do stuff and that way the server will eventually fill up and the stats will be downscaled to 40 vs 40 again. it would balance wvw and actually give the most strategic commander an edge.

bronze RoS EU player here, seeing those filthy german, Drakkar, turtling our keep with 20+ arrowcarts and have atleast 10 man groups on both your side of supply camps WITH siege when you are commanding 15 man intotal EB zerg is NOT fun and i came here simply to say im done with it and hope something will change.

Not sure what to say after reading your QQ’s about how much you die, but now you still promote a build.

Anyways, staff is like the least viable weapon to use for roaming. It simply doesn’t work well. Anything you do is easily avoided because everything the staff does is slow. AoE’s are easy to avoid etc. You’re almost a free loot bag… Staff shines in zergs, which is the reason i use staff, but if i go roaming, i’d pick up daggers or switch to another class.

Looking forward to your video. And not just show the good moments, I hate vids like that. Show everything.

the fact is and remains that you need to actually know howto play staff, master all abilities.

And yes staff DOES have its weak attributes with dying pretty fast due to no survivability wich i clearly stated as one of my first things i feel why staff is underpowered.

This does NOT mean i will not roam with my staff, because easily said its the most fun weapon to use and if used correctly VERY strong in roaming with some major flaws wich is why i started the ‘qq’ in the first place.

Just because i dont meet your status quo doesnt mean i dont know howto play,
i refuse to play d/d because im an elementalist not a thief. and switching to another class only proves to me that staff ele is UNDERPOWERED in PvP. simple as that.

Oh and PS.
your elite must be your glyph of elemental, You cant even begin to understand HOW good lightning elemental is with its stuns and swiftness in pvp!

Also for taking out camps its required to use the earth golem to tank for you when casting healing spells on him while your in the back dpsing. in general i dont really use my water elemental or my fire elemental.

Hello, dear elementalist,

after my very rude intrusion in the ele parts of this forum, i am delighted to say i have found the best capable STAFF roaming build aslong as your not afraid to attunement switch/combo field. (in my humble opinion)

seeking out pretty high damage output with atleast some forms of survivability,

i will still get killed by anyone capable enough, and i am still sadly one of the slowest getaway-card classes. (in my opinion the only thing i could still improve upon Buff wise for a staff)

but i have found the key component to having 30 in fire whilst maintaining the required 20 in water for healing purposes
and 20 in arcana so i can still dance the attunement dance when i require to do so (wich is allot)

The build feels kind of glass cannony at first, but once you realise your utility slots and your switching to water attunement actually heals quite enough with 20 in water alone. you see potential to 1v1 as a staff user (if you are skilled enough to kite and know what to use when)

The build so far is

30 fire 20 water and 20 arcana, the standard ‘lightning flash/mist form’ with a VERY essential arcane wave. (this produces most of your healing, your dps and swiftness when needed) its like a needed extra for each attunement switch.

but im still not sure what are the best traits for a staff user in arcana. since blasting staff seems kind of useless if you know howto stun your opponent and then cast a fire field in his face. seeing i use arcana wave allot, arcane mastery comes in to mind. the 20% reduction is quite nice (nerfing the downtime of 30 to 24) or arcane retribution to put some extra damage out there.

Any tips hints ideas? will be doing allot of wvw today to test my hypothesy and maybe even make a video for you guys to show it actually can be done!

Its interesting to see people commenting on the thread without realising i already said i understand the DPS an ele can do, but in any PvP enviroment they suck doing that simply put BAD traitsetup

Saying staff isnt supposed to 1v1 is exacly why staffs are NEVER seen in sPvP or Roaming.

And i see allot of people talk about other weapon sets, im not talking about other weapon sets im talking about staffs.

the flaw of the staff in PvP in general is there solo survivability, its not like you can just teleport to the nearest commander to join in a zerg and once the zerg is on the otherside of eternal battlegrounds, GL ele, with no movement speed, no armor, health or any survivability. (because these ARE the flaws of a staff ele)

But yeah i think i have found the sweetspot of my ele DPS + survivabilty ROAMING at this point in time.

Just rolled an Ele and lovin it!!

Ya i had been following the ele forums for about a week before creating my ele. I have no desire do do wvw. Just pve and dungeons. I played a ranger and didnt see hate in the game or in dungeons but read about it on the forums. I guess i like to play the two least wanted classes which is funny because normaly i roll a warrior. I just didnt want to do that this time around..

Plz ask CL what happened when they came to mag’s watergate, I’ll give you a hint, the fight lasted 2 seconds for their 30+ group.

also if you have a zerg filled with eles just charge in and see them ALL flee due to NO defences. maybe arrowcart up and see them all drop like flies? idk..

filled? what, are you t8 and you have 15 people on the map? and you’re going to open field arrowcart (lol open field siege)? while people can drop aoes on you from 1200 range and just keep walking out of the incredibly visible red circles that intentionally give you enough time to walk out of them before anything happens?

so all the eles died within 2 seconds because im pretty sure the casting time of meteor shower is like 3,75 sec
Also you cant, i repeat you CANT move when casting meteor shower. its a ZONING skill not a killing skill.

Or while we are at it, lets make thiefs d/p invisible bumrush them for insta kills..

if i ever cast a meteor shower and 1 person is hit he isntantly dodges out, and focus fires me since he knows im a low health target seeing the dmg the shower did. (and he knows what dodgerolling is)

Wait, you’re qq’ing about getting roaming balanced? Why would you ever expect roaming 1v1 to be balanced?

i wouldnt expect it to be balanced i dont mind fighting someone 1v1 and needing MORE skill to actually kill someone, but sadly this is not the case. sadly there is SUCH a huge gap between ele and warrior that there is NO way to kill a warrior effectively EVER except if he doesnt know howto play ofcourse.

Full glass cannon staff needs either a healing buff or an option to actually be safe whilst casting, like an armor of earth buff.

just tested it out, its about 3k dmg with lavafont and fireball, 100blade is still higher dps…

Same runes, sigil, amulets/gems(zerker), both have fury. Warrior at full adrenaline running 30/0/0/10/30, ele running 30/20/10/10/0. Nobody else nearby because I just did this to help out your bad testing.

Oh and warrior had 2 more stacks of might (ele 2 blast finishers for 6 + fury, warrior fgj/signet).

so you relly on dying instantly when ANYTHING comes close to you, hence no reall speccing except full glascannon, wich means you will die before you even get your stuff out?

unlike a warrior going full zerk glass warrior etc. because ofcourse he has heavy armor + huge hp pool eventho hes going full glass.

Ele can mist form and lightning flash very easily, also throw static behind themself. Warrior can try to run and hope it isn’t cc’ed/soft cc’ed from getting back to friendlies.

Very easily? last time i checked both of them required ATLEAST a cooldown of 45 seconds and 75 seconds, Yeah really good… roaming, and worst of all lightning flash (the kitten cooldown) doesnt break stun, and mist form only breaks stun when its cast not when being active. so 1 stun and your autogibbed 1 slow and your auto gibbed, hell, 1 full proc 100 blade and your dead.

ele in that sense for being SUCH a glasscannon should be able to 1 hit kill spike after doing an insane combo, of using all attunements, but ofcourse thats impossible if your full zerker cuz if you go out of precious fire, all your ‘attack’ is gone and worse, because your full zerker traited you cant even heal up if you dont get 1 hit.

Best you can do is CC and HOPE he doesnt have stunbreakers on him cuz then ur dead anyways

Lava font & fireball already out dps anything else. Cast lava font on anybody downed especially if people are reviving for instant bags. Meteor is only for large pve targets or blobbed zergs making predictable movements.

So stop trying to tank in a game where the primary damage mitigation is not standing in front of Server _____’s stupid hammer train that charges in straight lines.

Just started tinkering a bit more with my traits, fact is and remains you cannot, have high damage output whilst having ANY survivability, wich also insta nullifies going glass cannon in the first place, traitwise.

your implying swiftness is anything worthwhile having when you cant outrun any class, im not a condi spamming class either with deathshroud. to have twice the life. or fear everything when i condi spam everything surrounding me whilst staying safe.

I either do massive dmg with 1 or 2 hits because thats howlong ill live vs anything with NO survivability or i dont do ANY damage at all to have the least survivability in pvp/wvw

In the end the elementalist if you want to actually be somewhat alive a LOW dps class. with NO survivability and NO health.

Right now im trying to think of the best Roaming staff build there is, but there just isnt enough dps or survivability.. its one or the other and both seem to not work to its full extent as other classes can.

also, who is so bad to stay in a fire field? or in a meteor shower… suddenly all taht ‘dps numbers gaming’, goes to 0 and your staff is still doing no dps.

There is no staying alive when you have no traits in healing.

since there is nothing left for you to do, there is no quick combinations that make you do any OTHER decent type of damage, hell 1 on water probably has the lowest dps in the entire game.

I am one elementalist’s hp pool away from deciding to reroll a warrior.

Already started leveling my warrior and joining the masses in pvp with my OP healing signet!

Its really not fun out-playing your opponent to an absurd degree and still losing over and over and over b/c even at your best efforts you do less than a ranger spamming 1 or a warrior just doing anything.

That’s why I love my Mesmer and Warrior.

One day they will get the message about the Elementalist and fix it.

I think they already got it, but cant really start buffing/nerfing it just yet because of the way ele works, high skill, lots of button pressing, if they first balance the easiest classes (like warrior) and slowly progress to the harder ones they will have a complete overview of where they can put the elementalist at. Sadly it takes forever and the stuff theyve been trying to add so far really isnt doing allot
