We usually use in game chat as “application process”, just to get a feel from new members and it gives a better feel for interaction than a form. After that there is always the trial period in which you can see what we are about and vice versa. I understand you are starting fresh, but what you wrote so far would really fit us. And we say: “choose whatever you want to play”. Our experience is that in general you are better at playing something you enjoy, as well as having a more fun experience makes a game last longer for you.

Sounds like you would fit our guild very well. We play on Desolation and while our members are mostly lvl 80, we are welcoming to members who are still leveling up. We will run dungeons together with you as they become available to you while levelling, answer any question you might have as well as helping you beat challenging content when you are struggling. Usually a ask for help in guildchat doesn’t go unanswered.

Being Dutch and female myself and about the same age (turning 33 in a month), it feels almost as reading my own looking for guild post.

We are a medium sized international European guild with 30-40 members, so that our members are able to get to know eachother. The guild language is English. While we can be very silly at times, we do have a certain level of matureness. Racist, sexist etc. chat is not tolerated and we are as drama free as you can get. We have a healthy mix of male and female members as well as covering a wide age range.
Our main focus is PvE, however we do have some WvW activity and the majority of the guild is not very skilled at it. We play to have fun! We do use voice chat, but we only require for members to be able to listen. We do not mind if you cannot or wish not to speak yourself.

We respect the real life that people are dealing with and while we organise quite a few events, it is not obligated to attent any of those. Ofcourse we do like for members to login atleast a few times a week when they have a bit of time available.

Our main requirements are that you represent our guild 100% and roll Desolation for homeworld.

We play on Desolation like you! I am not sure if you are looking for a guild that flags itself as LGBT? We simply don’t tolerate any racist, sexist etc. behavior. We are a medium sized guild (30-40 members) so people are able get to know eachother and would love to increase our roster. We have a very active core group of roughly 5 players. Currently most activity takes place during the evenings during the week. We would love to increase the activity of the guild and that is why we are recruiting. We are a medium size guild with a roster floating between 30 and 40 members with a relaxed and mature atmosphere. We keep the roster at this size so people are able to get to know eachother. The average age is changing all the time with recruitments and people leaving, but we have members between 18 and nearing 50, sometimes even older. We like to believe that we are very helpful. We will answer any question you throw at us and help you to get those dungeons and skill challenges done while having fun doing them. We use mumble for voice communication, but all those details are also in the other links.

From your opening post:

1. We do not care about the level of your character, your gear, your skill etc. We care that you are a nice person. Everyone is given the chance to join our activities, for example we do not require you to be level 80 to run a lower level dungeon with us. So if you would join for our dungeon run night, we would first check who is in the party and then see where we could go instead of the other way round.

And while we are interested to hear about your personal life if you feel like sharing things, we don’t see people in our guild as the boyfriend/girlfriend/brother or sister of, even though we do have relationships like those between our members.

Oh, I was not saying you were not doing those things. Just throwing it in there as I have no idea how you run your guild, while this was in your goals. Try asking the members who leave why they left in a whisper as well. You can get surprising feedback from that at times.

Creating a new guild in a game that is 2 years old is not an easy task. Most people playing have already found their guild. The fact that new people leave within 24 hours is a very bad sign though. That means there is something wrong. When people leave my guild like that, I usually send them a whisper to ask why they left.

Creating a tight knit community means you have to be very chatty yourself when a lot of new members join, trying to get everyone involved in your guildchat and maybe other platforms you are using (like forums, facebook etc.). You have to be the glue between the members who do not know eachother yet. It is not something that will automatically happen.

I think it is very bad for us players to not respect players who bought this game in their local language and choose a homeworld in their local language. They should be able to use that language in map chat. It does not hurt us. It only increases the problems already existing with the megaserver (like organising events) if we do not respect this. And I think it is rather arrogant of the English speaking players to request of the other players to speak English as well. Do you change to French, German or Spanish when the majority of the players on the map are speaking that language? Are you capable to do so?

In overflows and megaserver maps I have no issue seeing one of those 3 languages or guild recruitment in any language. I am not able to write well enough in any of those 3 languages, but when I understand a question that is asked in that language I will answer in English just in case the person speaks that. Sometimes ended up having quite nice conversations that way.

I understand the issue of having several languages piled together on a map, but lets not increase this problem with our attitude of English > other languages.

Yes we do accept newly created accounts. Most of our members are level 80 though, but a lot have low level alts with which they can team up with you. Also when you need help with something there is always someone willing to help. Next to that we do not mind to rerun dungeons for new members and help them through them at their appropriate level.

Also I would like to ask the roleplayers to please give us non-roleplayers the benefit of the doubt. So far my experience with the GW2 community in game is that it is very mature and the majority of us is not out there to ruin your roleplay experience. Please give us a chance to play alongside you and have us exposed to your roleplay as well. We will not know how this new system will turn out without giving it a try. I will be happy to see a bit more of your roleplay and help report any troll I encounter.

Megaservers and RP

I don’t understand where the assumption comes from that you will face more non-rp players after the implementation of this megaserver than before. ArenaNet claims (we cannot test this yet ofcourse) that the chances of you ending up on the same map with people from same homeworld, guild, friends and party increase. And most roleplayers are already concentrated in specific homeworlds and guilds.

The system wouldn’t know if someone is a role player, unless it will come with some way for RPers to flag themselves as such. Maybe that’s exactly what will happen. We’ll see tomorrow.

What I understand is the worry that they end up by themselves or with a small party on a map with other non-rp people. I think this is exactly what ArenaNet is trying to counter by creating the megaservers. The chances of you being on the same map as the people from your homeworld, guild and party increase due to this change. They don’t decrease. Atleast, if the megaservers in practice are as good as they sound in theory.

You can RP any game, with or without emotes.

Sometimes when I am running through a starter area and come across a lowbie downed, I will revive them and then say something like “Be careful out here, these <monster type> don’t take too kindly to strange <insert race>.” It’s the only time I actually RP, that or if I’m with some guildies and we do it ironically. Secretly I enjoy it though. Especially on my Charr. I love saying “stupid human” to people.

On that note I love being on an asura, when waiting somewhere for whatever reason telling the charr who is waiting next to me to not snack on my ears! Got quite some funny responses out of that.

I love the fact when they released it in Rift, they released the divorce papers at the same time . It was used a lot and a lot of people enjoyed it (not sure about the divorces).

Our guild is experiencing an increased amount of crashes as well, however it was in WvW in stressed situations rather then LA.

While I agree there’s a problem with AR and alts, I’m not sure giving account-bound AR is the solution, as I think the problem is wider than that.

Like others have also said in this CDI (Relativity & Mr Niice on page 1, Auesis & The lost witch on page 2, Patrikan Habaton & One note chord on page 3, etc.), the problem with AR, even on one character, is the complete gear-gating it has become. Skill should be what has to be improved to progress in fractals, not AR.

Because of this reliance on AR, we now see even at the highest levels people who don’t care to dodge anymore, as they don’t take any damage from agony. What’s the point of agony then ?

I see those as two different proposals. The time gating and need of AR could still be addressed while making AR account bound. One does not exclude the other.

Proposal overview

Fractals become much more repeatable/replayable if we can bring any character. It makes it a different experience. The fractal levels are account wide, but I find myself bringing the same character because she is the only one who is equiped with AR.

Associated Risks
- People who already build up their AR should have this transferred to their account somehow in order to not lose progress.

Hmm, I like this idea. How about making it similar to how we level Magic Find. We can level up AR with the AR drop from playing fractals, and it gets progressively harder to level up AR the higher it gets. As of right now my main char has about 90 AR so I mainly bring him into fotm, I’d like to play different professions in fotm but since I only play high level fotm and my other toons have low ARs so it’s hard to do.

I agree… I just think it’s really really important they don’t get rid of the AR we have already accumulated. That would open up a can of wurms we wouldn’t be able to decapitate.

I agree with these thoughts. I would be bummed because I spent a lot of time getting enough AR on 5 of my toons to be doing the Fractals at a whim, but it makes too much sense to ignore. Account based AR in some form or other would be fantastic.

Oh I agree totally with that. Having to start over after work put in is not fun! I think the cons I have seen in the discussions so far are:

1. Possibility of losing progress
2. Having to bring the fotm profession
3. The handful of players that already geared 5 characters and put in a lot of hard work that feels that goes to waste now

I think number 1 can be countered by implementing it in a good way.
Number 2 is a community issue which is already happening and something you can regulate yourself (play with friends/your guild).
Number 3, I think this is a valid concern, but I think that with any major change like this a few get hurt where the majority gains something. I think this can also be partly countered when it would be implemented in a way that the AR on all your characters gets somehow transfered to your account.

Thanks. I feel there are many ways around this idea and I am not sure which one would be best. It could potentially allow for unlimited AR stacking which might not be desired at the moment. So a limit could be applied or AR infusion slots could be moved to the hero panel. Then we would still need to get the AR infusions and the market remains for the craftable +1 infusions. But I am sure there are over a dozen other ways around it.

This was just a rough sketch to have the AR moved from character to account in order to increase the replayability.

Why would there be nothing for fractal relics? You would still have to collect tokens for the AR. You would be collecting it for your account instead of per character. It could mean an increase in price even.

The work you have already put in, could be translated into a headstart for your account, in order to not lose that work put in.

I think a lot of players would still get ascended. It is not only used in FotM and also in WvW. You could personally chose to no longer get it ofcourse, but a lot of people already chose so. And a lot of players who do not go to FotM still chose to get ascended even if it is not really needed in your opinion.

I am not saying it is easy to implement either, but I believe the same holds through for the magic find change they managed to pull off. People farmed armor sets there too. I feel the infusions could work as consumables towards your account AR. So that when the patch hits they are removed from your gear and mailed to you so you have a headstart to start with from the AR you already collected (I am pretty sure that people do not want to start over farming their AR). Or possibly have slots for AR infusions somewhere in your hero page, so that people can still craft and use the higher AR infusions that they implemented a while ago and a market remains for that.

I am not an expert on balancing all that myself, but I think there are options to work with and make it account wide.

I have a suggestion to remove agony resistance from the gear and have it moved to the account, similar to the change that was made in the past for magic find. I post it here as it is only applicable for FotM.

Since the fractal levels are account bound instead of character bound, I am still kind of doing them on 1 character only as she has the agony resistance needed for the fractal level I have unlocked on my account. By moving the agony restistance from the gear to being account wide, I can start bringing my other characters too, that will never get agony resistance. So far the change to make fractal level account wide, did not have an impact on my gameplay due to this restriction.

Ofcourse balancing this might be tricky as a lot of players already have agony resistance, but that could give them a head start on their account directly. Also a stat buff will occur due to the infusion slots that become available (neglectable or not?). Next to that a part of the grind from the game will “disappear” as we do not have to get ascended items and agony resistance for every single character that we want to bring to the higher levels of fractals. I am confident this all could be re-balanced.

It would open up fractals for a lot of characters for a lot of players, which makes us enjoy that part of the game just that much more!

Big patch coming up after the end of this living story chapter. PvP is going to have the rewards revisited (they already added a bit for finishing the daily), which will open the system up for other playstyles then conquest only. If you are looking for big changes, then best wait for a bit longer as Anet said they were going to finish this living story chapter first and then do a big feature patch after.
