One time event my a**

Did they not announce the one-time cutscene and people would miss out there would be a lot of complains.

Did they make playable content available for one time only there would be a lot of complains.

I think they pretty much found a middle ground where a cutscene is the one-time event but people not missing out on playable content when they couldn’t be there. You could say it was overhyped, but that is not only ArenaNets fault. I was not able to do the dungeon myself yet due to all the bugs popping up due to the amount of people online, however I don’t have to miss out as it will be around for a few days.

Overall I am happy with the choices they have made for this one-time event.

Akasuki that is due to the glow effect on the sylvari. When you create a new character you can turn on and off the light by clicking the bulb next to the hide armor button. Then you see what your character looks like when it is dark. Sylvari glow in the dark and you can pick a glow colour and glow intensity (I think if you drag the slider all to the left the glow effect will not be there, never tried that myself).

Seriously, Mad King is suppose to show up the 31st in a Cycle of Hours…tis Tradition, to move that to the 28th makes little sense…and a one time event…seriously? So everyone who isn’t on misses the rewards/hat at that said time…thats just absurd…

I am speculating it might be the opening of the mad realm. After that I guess you will have multiple opportunities to do the other events, but once the realm is open it does not make sense to close it again or does it?

Hello Kruppe,

Sounds like your playstyle is very similar to ours. We are a relaxed and mature guild with weekly dungeon runs and we are also starting weekly WvW runs. Outside those weekly runs most are focused on the PvE part of the game. And no runs are obligated to attend. We keep our roster small on purpose (around 30 members) so people get to know eachother better. Most of the chat happens in guildchat, but we do have a mumble server that we use for guild runs or when we feel like it. You can find a bit more information on our website: Modern Family

We had this social guild meet up and decided to play some keg brawl! I am sorry for the people who ended up in the map with us, as we did not focus on keg brawl for the first half hour or even longer. We were just making sure our fellow guildies would be slapped in the face and stomped down often enough to not forget the night. And sure we did not forget. We still have fun looking back at it and boast about how often we slapped someone silly and how sneaky those asura guildmates are.

He even could have screencapped the convo and reported the guildleader for harrassment. But you have to consider if that is worth the effort as it can lead to a even more hostile relation and it doesn’t really solve anything. Anyway, after that experience I would no longer feel comfortable in the guild and look for another one and put the guildleader on ignore.

Has anyone noticed recently, that now there are a lot of members listed as “unknown” in the guild roster?

This seems to indicate some form of inactivity notice but as Anet do not seem to have announced this anywhere, I’m not sure if that is accurate. For the time being I am removing members listed as “unknown” and recruiting new members.

This happens on a server reset. Then everyone gets listed as unknown, as the character data is wiped from the roster. When people log in again the unknown gets replaced with their current character info. We use this now as well to check activity. Just give it a bit of time after a new server reset to see if people log in or not.

Regarding guilds and non-representing members

Regarding guilds and non-representing members

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

As a leader of a small guild you ideally want them to represent your guild. It is very hard to build up a guild when there are not enough at a time representing the guild. Guild chat is less active and less groups can be formed for activities. Also it can reflect in a negative way for people who do represent all the time, but can’t find enough players to play with due to others not representing. They might start looking for another guild as well. Also you miss out on a lot of influence with which you want to buy perks for them. Why have them in your guild but do not represent you while they will use the perks?

All this not representing is fun and sure has it uses for specific guilds like dungeon running guilds while you are in a guild that does none and allows you to represent others as well. But decide for yourself what you want your guild to be like and how you want to deal with this and then follow up on that. Tell people what you expect from them. If you decide they have to represent you all the time, go ask why they are not representing. If they do not want to represent you while you decide that is a rule for your guild, then follow up on that rule. If you decide that they get a separate rank without access to guildbank for example, then you can implement this. But do decide and follow up on your decisions.

The above poster sais it does not have much of an impact, but in my opinion it does have a huge impact. Seeing a roster with a lot of members not representing does impact the perspective of other players. And because of that you have to end up running a large guild while you want to run a small guild? I run a small guild and I don’t agree with that. If I have to expand the roster in order to not having to kick a non-representing player, that is not what benefits our guild. That player wants a different experience from ours and I would advice them to move on to a guild that offers that experience.

Different guilds, different players, take your time to find a good match.

Does critical damage stack with power?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esya.3427

Critical hits do 150% damage (assuming no increased critical damage stats). When you up the power, the damage of attacks go up. Then when you crit you do 150% of that damage.

Not sure if my point is clear.

elementarist vs mesmer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

If you enjoy playing an elementalist, then play an elementalist. It is my main and I am loving it. Professions will get buffed and nerfed over time, but if you enjoy a certain playstyle then in my opinion it is best to stick with that. I don’t think elementalist is that difficult. You will get used to using the 4 attunements. If you are a normal skilled player you will master it (I did as well).

Also, it might be a challenge playing a completely new game with dynamic combat and dodge system where you can feel squishy. But that goes for any profession in this game. If you really enjoy the class stick with it and try different builds and learn to dodge.

Having said that, I do think playing a mesmer is fun too. They are completely different from anything I have seen in any game before. Because of that alone they are already worth a try, but I find them more challenging as Onza already pointed out, you get a benefit from the mistakes the enemy makes.

You want heroes and want to solve that with multiboxing. While I can understand you liked heroes, multiboxing is not the way to solve their loss. ArenaNet cannot say, ok we allow multiboxing in instanced areas only. They would have to fully allow it and then the impact is huge. Multiboxers would run in WvW killing that gameplay for almost all players. So no, multiboxing is not allowed. You are better off asking for heroes for dungeons. However, seeing the design of this game I don’t think ArenaNet is going to put all the design work that would be needed for this feature into it.

Then it might boil down to this game not being the game for you. It can be a bitter conclusion after having loved GW for so much and looking forward to GW2 for so much. However, GW is still online and you don’t rely on other people playing so you won’t be hurt by players moving from GW to GW2. If I were you, I would go have fun with those henchmen if I missed them so much.

Would 10 extra trait points make a difference?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Just curious for arguments sake. How exactly would that effect you in a negative way? You lvl up after 80 and get skill points anyway, why not put them to use. It`s not like the game forces you to spend trait points.

Now I could understand for the pvp people who don`t want to invest time and get the extra exp for the extra points. But the pvp could be locked at the 70 points so everyone is on the same field. What would it matter to you if people in pve wanted something else to work towards? I would just like to know.

Everyone would be the same. Only the gear would make “builds” different, but you would be able to max out all trait lines. It is more fun when you can differentiate yourself a bit more.
Also having to make choices makes your character more fun. It is maybe not so much fun you cannot pick those 2 major traits you really wanted, but it makes your character more interesting. You had to put thought into it and think about what you want your character to be.

Small-guild GMs: let's discuss our future

in Guilds

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Keep fighting for it. Our guild is finally doing great and we have recruits coming our way without having to spam in game and forum posting every week. Like the poster above we believe in quality over quantity and even assume our guilds are very similar, but seeing we both are not after the real big numbers we can happily exist next to eachother (we also play on Desolation). I find a lot of new players are still coming into this game. Even if only 1 player out of the 3 you recruited stays and plays on a regular basis you are growing. And once word of mouth starts to roll, they bring in their family members and friends and your guild is happily expanding to the size you are comfortable with.

A few things that worked for us:
1. Create guild events early on. Even a simple guild meet up for screenshots and a game of keg brawl can help a lot.
2. Explain to your members where you want to go with your guild. I openly told them how many members I was aiming for and working towards. This helps players to stay when they see the guild has a future and they can help build it.
3. For small guilds you really want people to represent you. A player not representing reflects very negatively on a guild in this situation.
4. Recruit here on the forums. I find it very efficient to reply to a post of someone looking for a guild that seems to fit in really well. Here also be open about what you have to offer now and what you want to offer soon. More people than the OP read your post and you can even recruit a few more that way (once had 3 people applying after responding to one OP). Also here you can recruit players from another server. I also find that forum posters and browser stay with you longer. They put in the effort and want to play the game longer than people responding to your ingame recruitment message.
5. Kick inactive players. A big roster with noone logging looks worse than a small roster of who a lot are active.

I don’t believe in the mass exodus. Sure we lost quite a few members, but we did manage to grow. Some people will become bored with the game and stop playing. To me it looked like mainly those we recruited in game and who levelled a character to 80 first to find nothing else to do at level 80 and then try out a few alts stopped playing. As said, a lot of new players are still coming into the game as well.

If there’s no opt-out I AM affected by it. This isn’t WoW, we don’t need everything WoW has. This game isn’t about gear and gear scores. If you want to know what gear someone has, ask them.

I would even dare say that when there is an opt-out you are still affected by it. Then the reasoning of we don’t take you because you have slightly worse gear is easily expanded. Some people will not take you to a dungeon when they cannot inspect you as you might possibly have slightly worse gear. I have seen it happen in the past.

Do Runes stack?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Also equipping 3 of the same runes with only 2 bonuses listed will make the 3rd rune obsolete. For example:

Rune of X:
(1) +10 power
(2) + 10 vitality

Equipping 3 of those runes will give you 10 power and 10 vitality. However, equipping a different rune with a different name will give you the first bonus of that rune again.

For example 2 runes of X:
(1) +10 power
(2) + 10 vitality

And 1 rune of Y:
(1) +10 power
(2) +5% bleed duration

This will give you in total +20 power and +10 vitality.

Also you can try out all runes and sigils in the Heart of Mists for free.

What about asking the often silent majority?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Why not issue surveys/questionairres if you want genuine feedback from a large player base?

I actually miss those since the beta. Sometimes I did something that was really fun and want to let them know, but posting about a fun event on the forum is just something you don’t easily do. Other times I want to give feedback on something that was unbalanced/boring in my opinion, but by the time I want to post about it forgot the name of the dynamic event.

I understand that the majority simply wants to play the game and does no longer want to have surveys popping up interrupting their gameplay. But couldn’t it be an option to have it as a checkbox in your settings? I would love to continue giving feedback to help improve the game and the easier that becomes the more often I will do it. It could also be a way to reach that silent majority.

About new implementations one could do a survey, but I think this will be hard to reach the silent majority. In no way should they become an obligation. I think it is better if they implement those and then use the feedback system they had during Beta which you can decide to participate in or not in your settings.

Guild Vs Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

The name Guild Wars has to do with the lore, not with the PvP. I am not saying that you should not ask for GvG, but I see a lot of people using this argument while it is lore related. I think there are better arguments to motivate them to implement it, for example that it was a lot of fun in GW1 (though I never joined that part of the gameplay myself, just an example).

Multiple Guilds

in Guilds

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

It depends on the guild you run too. I run a small guild, and if members do not represent that guild, that small guild becomes awefully quiet and won’t be able to do anything together. Therefore, I expect you to represent us all the time. However, I am not that strict about it and give people opportunities to try out other guilds as well without being swiftly kicked from ours. I think that is a big plus from this system. I do not require trial members to represent us all the time as I think this time is to see if we fit them, but I do motivate them to do so. In our guild I happened to have noone so far who did not have the same idea about the guild, so the discussion did not pop up yet. But we have a rank in place for people representing multiple guilds and are therefore somewhat prepared and not completely against the idea. If a member who we had a lot of fun with decides to represent another guild because they are looking for something we do not offer, then I prefer to have them still representing us every now and then if only for the chats.
