I think starter areas should be a special case. I recognise that new players need to learn game mechanics.
Once we get in to discussing level 14+ areas though I think a real gap starts to emerge between level-appropriate players and downscaled level 80 players. So, I don’t agree with you that the difficulty is consistent when I bring my 80 back to those 14+ areas.
I established that just now by testing my level 14 vs my level 80. It was <2 seconds for a kill for the 80 and 7 – 12 seconds for the 14.
I would have to retest that myself to see how consistent it will be from that level onwards. But would it not depend heavily on your build? I play mainly support builds as I have an interest in those, and then it does not feel that much faster on my lvl 80 character. Are you running a high DPS/beserker build mainly?
So you would like the starter area to be harder for level 80 characters than it is for low level characters if I understand correctly? I don’t think many people are going to agree (myself included).
At level 3, you just about one-shot most mobs too. I understand that this is overall game difficulty, and that you do not want to address that in this topic. However, I feel that the difficulty is quite consistent when I bring a level 80 character to a low level map compared to playing on a level appropriate character. So if you want it to be more difficult for lvl 80 characters in low level map, then you will touch on the overall game difficulty.
I think you are trying to solve the problem the wrong way. Rather than skipping levels on alts, you want builds to be viable earlier on so you enjoy levelling them again. I find it rather strange how some utility skills that are so gameplay defining are locked in the 3rd tier. I think this could be addressed, rather than skipping levels on alts. If all utility skills were readily available, you don’t have to wait till level 30 to atleast have the action bar you want. Just keep them at the same cost so it takes as many skill points to unlock them, just not in a tiered system. I am not sure how this can be or if it should be addressed for traits. I understand why they don’t want you to have access to everything at level 11.
Give it a shot. You have no and might get a yes. They have refunded some items for other players as well. It is always totally our fault as we press those buttons.
The amount of times that the people who topped the DPS meters were lieing dead on the floor due to not moving out of the aoe and demanding a revive, I lost track of that. They are bad memories and I would like to keep them that way.
On a similar note, I think ArenaNet should have named infusions confusions. Then it sounds more fun when you tell people you can confuse confusions in the MF!
I would like to report a player for inappropriate behaviour. However, his behaviour does not fit one of the categories already availble like verbal abuse, spamming, botting etc. I tried to find an e-mail address, but did not manage within the 5 minutes that I have been looking. If anyone could help me with this, that would be appreciated.
if you would go out to the starting zones you would see that about first 5 levels mostly only feature yellow mobs anyway.
That is not the point I tried to make. It was only part of the things they changed. They made the overall content of the early levels drastically easier, in order to have players try the game for longer. A first impression is really important for games like these.
I think people underestimate the first impression a game needs to make to have players keep playing. WoW changed the starting zones drastically to have a less steep learning curve compared to release. They made all the mobs neutral for the first 5? levels. The first few times you play a brand new game you are not learning to understand your character, you are learning to understand the interface.
Ofcourse it would feel silly and dumbed down for us, as we already understand the game and interface, and that is also the feedback WoW received from their playerbase. It was now considered too boring and too easy. However, they have new players try the game for longer after those changes. Those changes were not aimed at their current playerbase but at people picking the game up for the first time. We will play through the first few levels in such a short time anyway, it does not even matter all that much.
Before the changes only about 10% would play beyond lvl 10 after picking up WoW. A steep learning curve being one of the biggest factors according to the exit surveys. I do not know how many play beyond lvl 10 now, but it does give a picture of how many players will quit based on the first impression.
Even if it is account bound I would not buy it, simply because I have so many alts that the hassle is too much. I would soon find myself standing at an ori vein with the pick on another character or in the bank. It would be great if it would work like an account upgrade. That all your character, current and future ones, get a mail with the item. Like the mails for hero’s band. Only then it would be worth it for me personally.
There are quiet a few female players, however they dont run around and yell “im a gurl, gimme attention and free items”.. with the exception of a few.
And some of those are males who like to freeload, spoiling it for us female gamers.
Dungeon explorable mode unlock per account instead of character.
By the way, in an effort to help the community, my guild has turned off all of our titles on all of our characters. (We will no longer be showing our “achievements”.)
-something to consider
Happy to see I am not the only one thinking along those lines and I know about a few more who disabled their titles in order to help others out.
We are currently finishing a tier 1 guild bounty weekly with 10 to 15 players and everyone in our guild is very happy with this. I think in the future we will most often have 10 players attending. We do this without pre-scouting and finding and killing the mobs serial, not parallel. We found pre-scouting to be counter-productive and frustrating. When you find a mob and are waiting for the rest of the guild to find theirs, your mob will be killed and you can start looking again.
Also, as a smaller guild we don’t need the max merits because we do not gain the influence fast enough. When we will unlock the next thing, we will most likely have a surplus of merits as we keep doing the guild missions weekly while saving up influence.
I am happy the guild bounty trainings will be added for the small guilds and it will also help us a great deal with the extra influence we can get that way. But in my opinion, a guild with 5 members should be aware that they can possibly not obtain everything and unlock everything available for guilds.
Just wanted to add a shade of grey to this discussion, as it pretty much seems to be about big guilds and max gains vs small guilds that in my opinion are so small they should be aware that there are consequences for that. We as a medium sized pretty casual but organised guild are just happy with what the guild bounties currently are.
This happens on server resets. After server reset everyone will be listed as unknown until they log in. I use this as a tool to track activity, but be careful not to do it shortly after a server reset.
And why are you so concered about new players?
I am not the one you quoted, but I am concerned about new players because I want them to have a good experience as well so that they will stay around. When you join a new game and notice that you can never “catch up” it can put you off and make you leave the game. We are playing a MMO where playing with more is more fun than playing with few atleast for me.
I feel like the daily and monthly should stay, but should not give achievement points when this is introduced. I think it is still nice to have a daily and monthly for the bits of XP you can get and the silver, laurels, mystic coins, karma jugs and when lucky some extra item. But they are in themselves infinite achievements that goes against the removal of infinite achievements. So next to those fun items we are rewarded with, I feel they should not give achievement points and the ones we gathered should be removed. Then you will have the most fair leaderboards in my opinion.
you are most welcome, if that was for me =)
It was, I usually forget to quote when my post goes right under the one I am responding to
.
Thank you for linking it, always been curious myself too.
The wallpaper is still around.
We are growing steadily, yesterday alone already 3 new members joined us! We are still looking to expand to a 40 member roster to have a solid base for guild missions, so we can still offer some more like minded players a home.
You can only start on a new server if you delete your current characters or pay the fee for a transfer. Otherwise, all your new characters will automaticallly be created on your already chosen homeworld.
We are slowly getting some new members in, but still looking for a few more. We also had our first guild mission last night which was a huge success for the guild!

I have 6 commendations in 2 weeks? how? if it is weekly? only done them on one guild…
Anet and information do not seem to blend well it seems..
They seemed to have reset with weekly and with server reset.
No sorry, did not look into that myself, just know it from a guild member who used it once to show that it is possible.
We are looking for a few more like-minded players to join us and have fun in the game together.
There is code to link anything in the game that you do not have in your bags. So people linking 20+ commendations are just trolling you.
Thanks for the update Bri, and I hope it works out for you! A 1800 gem transfer fee is something I would personally try to avoid as well.
Heya Tremor,
We, Modern Family, are a friendly and relaxed guild that plays on Desolation! The guild has a stable roster and originally started in WoW many years ago, after which we moved to Rift and now GW2. We keep our roster at a medium size of 30-40 members, so people get to know eachother well. We have weekly organised guild events: guild missions, dungeon run and a WvW night. Next to that we have a monthly guild meeting where we boost karma to the max for the jugs collected by everyone and have a fun activity along the lines of hide and seek, snowball fight or a puzzle. No events are mandatory to attend, you sign up when you feel like joining them.
We have a website with forums and a mumble server. We use mumble mainly during guild events and guild chat outside those.
Goodluck finding a guild of your liking!
We are still looking for a couple of members who prefer a smaller, friendly and relaxed guild. I am not on the forums much today, but will be online a lot in game.
Hello Bri,
Sounds like we could be a home for you. We keep our roster at a medium size, with currently 30 members but willing to grow to 40 in order to give the higher tiers of guild missions a shot. Currently we have around 15 members online during the evening, daytime is a bit more quiet due to the majority having a job, however most of the time you can find someone online. We have members up to an age of 51 and try to recruit 18+, unless someone proofs to fit in. We have people in our guild who have been gaming for many years and those who were new to MMO altogether in GW2 as well. We aim to have fun together and don’t care about experience of new members, as we feel that is something you can obtain by playing where a personality is less likely to change. I would say we are a friendly and relaxed group of players.
We have weekly organised dungeon runs, WvW night and this week we start the guild mission night. Every month we have a guild meeting in order to boost your karma jugs that you collected and with a fun activity like hide and seek, snowball fights and more non serious things. There is no obligation to attend any of the previous mentioned events, you just sign up for an event when you feel like joining.
We have a website with forum and mumble server. We mostly use mumble during guild events and use guildchat mostly outside those.
We play on the Desolation server, so it would mean we would ask you to move, but we can offer a trial period before you make that decision. We would also ask you to represent us all the time once you would have decided that we are a good fit.
If interested or if you have more questions feel free to send me a PM here or contact me in game on Esya.3427 in the evening, but I might be out for a few hours tonight.
Goodluck finding a guild of your liking!
P.S. Would like to add that outside the organised events a lot of dungeon runs are done when people feel like doing them.

Modern Family is a social, mature, friendly, relaxed, tight knit guild with currently a roster of 30 members and around 15 online during the evenings. We are a diverse group of players from all different countries of Europe and a wide age range, who focus mainly on PvE and a bit on WvW. We are looking to replace a few members who have become inactive and possibly grow a bit in the future if that is needed to support guild missions. We like to keep the roster small but active.
What we can offer:
- You count as a member and won’t be treated as a number. We are very welcoming to new members.
- A drama free guild that has been around for years prior to GW2 in WoW and Rift with a good mix of new players.
- Weekly organised guild events like dungeon runs, WvW and we have guild missions unlocked and being started this week. Outside those a lot of dungeon runs are being done when people feel like. No obligations to attend, sign up when you feel like joining.
- Monthly guild meeting with karma boosting, screenshots and a fun activity.
- A website with forum and a mumble server that we use during guild events but is available 24/7. We don’t require you to have a microphone, only listening is ok.
What we are looking for:
- Preferrably 18+.
- Guild chat is in English so that is required from you as well.
- A player that games to have fun and not only for the loot (though we understand that without loot the fun is limited too).
- We are looking for players who plan to stay with us for the long run.
- We require you to be on our server once you have decided to stay with our guild. We don’t require this during a trial period. Please be adviced that Desolation is a very high population server and therefore transferring is not cheap.
- We require you to represent us. If this does not fit your playstyle then please look for a different guild.
And ofcourse a shiny link to our website.
If you are interested in joining or have more questions you would like to ask feel free to send me a PM here or contact me in game (Esya.3427).

Hello Nabal,
Sounds like you two would fit right into our guild. We do WvW and dungeon runs weekly and outside those evenings a lot of dungeons are done without planning them. Next week we will start doing guild missions weekly as well, but we like to keep our roster small and have chosen for the fact that we might progress there more slow than bigger guilds. Currently we have a roster of about 30 members, but we might potentially grow to 40 if that is desired for guild missions in the end. We do have around 15 members online on an evening. It means you would have to move though to a high populated server as we play on Desolation.
For a bit more information you can have a look on our website.
If interested feel free to PM me here or whisper me in game.
Goodluck finding a guild!
We are still looking for a few more who like to join a smaller relaxed and friendly guild on the Desolation server.
I dislike and like the overflow. It has its cons like not being on the same server as your guildies and not bumping into them and some language barriers at times. However, imagine all of the people on your server currently being in LA being loaded on your screen. I expect it would be really busy and crowded. I like how that is not the case and you can actually see and talk to NPCs. It is lively in the trading/crafting area without it being too crowded.
Hello Aiedail,
I am not sure what kind of guild you are looking for regarding size, but we run a small guild with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere on the Desolation server. For more information please read this post.
We just recruited our first new member, but still have a few more spots available.
Atleast the money in your bank will be used when you need to WP and your character is broke. Not sure what happens after, if what LinkR describes is still the case.
I am not here to offer you a spot, but wanted you to be aware that you cannot start over on another server. Once you picked a homeworld, that is the server all your characters will be created on from then onwards. It is a harsh system for new players. You can guest on other servers, but if you want to transfer in order to join the new guild in WvW and add influence for the guild that will come with a cost depending on how full the target server is.
Hello Mysticroots,
Sounds like our guild could be a fit for you. We have an age requirement of 18+, but do take care the guild is friendly and the average age is quite a bit higher. The main focus of our members seems to be on dungeons, but we also run WvW weekly.
Link to forum post with more information about us.
Goodluck with finding a guild that suits you!
It is a matter of different guilds and different kind of players. In my view a guild that does not care about you representing is a bad guild, but that is because it does not suit me. But there is something out there for everyone and it does pay off to do a bit of research beforehand and ask about those things if they matter to you before joining.
One tip though for people who every now and then would love a quiet night: you can put your status on invisible in the friends list. That way nobody sees that you are online as you will show as offline. When you send a whisper to someone, they cannot whisper you back though as they get the message: player is offline.
Are you looking for a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where people matter and know eachother? Then we might be the guild for you. We keep our roster small on purpose (around 30 members) so that people get to know eachother better and are currently replacing some members who have become inactive. We have between 10-15 players online during the evenings. Guildchat is usually active and for teamplay (dungeons, WvW) we use mumble. Seeing how most of us have a job, it can be quiet during daytime.
We organise weekly dungeon runs and WvW nights with a lot of dungeon runs being done in between. We are not hardcore. This means we do not farm fractals, but also don’t require you to join anything you don’t want to. We play content because we like to see it, run any dungeon for who needs it and sometimes farm one for a while for the tokens when we feel like doing so.
You can find some more information on our website. Feel free to PM me or whisper me in game if you have more questions or feel like we could provide you a home.

I have kept an eye on it and neither have I. But I got confused after +1-ing a post the button goes red again and not greyed out.
-Dyes
-WvW blueprints
-Legendary
-Story mode dungeons
-Fractal levels
-Karma (yes, I would like one big karma pool, less managing who drinks the jugs)
I would not like to see the map completion icon account bound, because then I am even less motivated to finish it again on an alt!
Would I be wrong in saying that after all those posts the concensus seems to be:
1. Gear inspection for names of items so we can look up skins
2. AR to be visible
3. MF to be visible
I think that is a whole lot different from a complete gear inspection, while providing the more hardcore players the information they are looking for (no more people dieing in fractal lvl 20+ for having 0 AR). What do you guys think about this?
Sounds good. I’d also toughen up the encounters some, if there’s a guarantee of a rare or better. And dragon chests should have a broader loot tables than they currently do. Throw in a small chance of a mini or something like that.
In my opinion not only a broader loot table, but also drop more items per opening of the chest. Bag of coins, bag of gems, crafting items… All not very exciting as an item itself, but once you get them to drop next to the current items it atleast feels more rewarding.
It is why I don’t get very motivated/enthusiastic when my guildmembers let us know in guildchat that a dragon is up. I sometimes join them for the fun of killing a dragon together. But as the chest is every time a let down it floats over the fun part as a shadow, which is a shame really.
I deleted mine, since you can’t make toys anymore.
By that I mean you can’t buy rest to make a toy. Or am I wrong.
You cannot get more cogs and toy frames, but glue and wads might still be on the TP. You need 250 cogs to create a mini or no cogs to create an endless potion.
